Retract “reckless comments” within five days – GJA tells GRNMA Secretary

0

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has demand that the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) General Secretary, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum to retract his “reckless comments” within five days and issue a public apology.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour warned that the GJA will hold him responsible for any harm that comes to a journalist visiting a hospital and is prepared to petition relevant agencies.

According to Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, if the GRNMA General Secretary fails to retract his statement, the GJA will not hesitate to pursue legal action.

The GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, in a press briefing in Accra stated, “ GRNMA General Secretary must with five days retract his reckless comments and issue a public apology, or we’ll petition relevant agencies.  We’ll hold him responsible for anything that happens to any journalist who visits a hospital”

“If the GRNMA General Secretary, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, fails to retract his statement, we will not hesitate to go to court to pursue legal action against him”, he added.

The GJA President’s demands follow, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum issuing a threat to Journalists who are criticising nurses unfairly following the Ridge Hospital incident.

According to the GRNMA Secretary, those Journalists criticising nurses have been marked and they are going to meet them at the hospital.

He noted that he intends to prove to them that they are professionals and do not intend to cause them harm.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, Dr Tenkorang-Twum said, “Those journalists, we have marked them. They will come and meet us in the hospital; I am serious about this. I said they will come and meet us in the hospital, and we will show them that we are professionals.

“They are in their offices saying all sorts of things they want, but when they come to us, we will prove to them in our consulting rooms that we are professionals”.

“Not that we will do them evil, but we will demonstrate that we are professionals. The nonsense they do on the radio, we won’t do the same, we will show them professionalism”, he added.

His remarks come following the bashing being levelled at some nurses and midwives, and also comments he made against the health minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following the Ridge Hospital brouhaha.

In addition, Eric Edem Agbana, the member of parliament for Ketu North, has slammed the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang-Twum.

According to Edem Agbana, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum is a loose cannon.

He noted that the GRNMA Secretary threatened journalists, saying, “We are marking them down and we will show them when they come to the hospital.”

The lawmaker asserted that Dr Tenkorang-Twum clearly threatened the Journalist and only sought to clarify his comments after the host alarmed and cautioned him.

In a Facebook post, Edem Agbana launched a scathing attack by saying, “The dumbest defence I’ve heard for the irresponsible and callous statement of Dr David Tenkorang-Twum is the excuse that he later added, “we will show them how professional we are.”

Cut the crap and credit us with some intelligence.

Go and watch the video again. The loose cannon, in an angry tone, clearly threatened journalists, saying “we are marking them down and we will show them when they come to the hospital.”

After the host got alarmed and cautioned him,  he hurriedly added , “we will show them how professional we are.” That was nothing but an afterthought”.

The lawmaker added, “Nurses are expected to be professional at all times and must never discriminate in their line of duty. They are not supposed to “mark people down” before showing how professional they are. So stop those ridiculous explanations.

If a professional nurse, speaking on behalf of a reputable body like the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), can issue such reckless and irresponsible threats, then what guarantee is there that he will not actually carry them out on patients he has “marked down”?

In plain language, Dr David Tenkorang-Twum’s statement is a threat on the life of patients.

Today, I am waiting to see what the University of Ghana, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, and the Ghana Journalists Association will say about this callous statement”, his post concluded.

“Something fishy happened, assaulted Ridge nurse still hospitalised” – GRNMA

0

Jefferson Asare, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has revealed that Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, the assaulted Ridge Hospital nurse, is still hospitalised.

According to Jefferson Asare, there is something fishy about the investigation committee set up by the Health Minister.

He accused the investigative committee of failing to act in accordance with its mandate.

Speaking in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Asare stated, “What is happening is demoralising our nurses. When you come on our platforms across Ghana, our nurses are demoralised, and it is very risky and very serious for Ghana”.

“We suspect that something fishy happened with the investigation because the nurse in question is still on admission at the hospital. So, if it was due to pain, what caused that pain? If you haven’t been attacked, how would you suffer pain?” he questioned.

He declared, “We reject the report by the investigative committee because it did not capture the real issues. It is full of twisted facts and narratives that do not support what occurred on the day of the incident.”

Jefferson Asare, in a separate interview, insisted that the Ridge Hospital nurse was diagnosed with polycontusion.

The GRNMA Accra Regional Chairman disputed aspects of the ministerial committee’s report on the Ridge Hospital assault.

According to Jefferson Asare, the committee failed to speak to the doctor who initially assessed the injured nurse.

Speaking on Channel One TV in reaction to the committee’s final report, Jefferson Asare stated, “I can say on record that the doctor who saw the lady was not even interviewed during the committee sitting. I know that for a fact because the names that were provided for people that were interviewed are here, and the medical report that was written and stamped—I have it. The doctor’s name is here. That doctor was not interviewed”.

“The dislocation was not said by any nurse or any other person than the medical director of Ridge Hospital when we met the medical director,” he explained. “It wasn’t the nurse who diagnosed the dislocation. It was a senior medical officer who saw the lady on Monday morning.”

He further questioned the committee’s rationale behind the committee’s choice of interviewees.

He added, “You go and interview the HOD of that department. What account will the HOD give you? You will need to interview the person who had first sight of the lady in question. Did they interview that doctor? No.”

“The diagnosis of the lady at the time was polycontusion. When we say polycontusion, what do we mean? It simply means that there is redness, there is swelling, and pain at the site of the hit. That is when you diagnose somebody with polycontusion,” he explained.

He further queried,  “So do they want to tell us that the doctor who did the diagnosis doesn’t know what he or she is doing? Is that what the committee wants to tell us?”.

Meanwhile, the committee set up by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has shockingly revealed that the Ridge Hospital nurse suffered no fracture or shoulder dislocation.

According to the committee, there was no medical evidence to support the claims that nurse Rejoice Tsotso Bortei claims.

Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, the Chairman of the Committee, added that the alleged victim reported her injuries on August 18, but there were no signs of a fracture in her left wrist or a dislocation in her right shoulder joint.

The committee added that the nurse was treated and given pain relief medication.

Presenting its report to the Health Minister, Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu stated, “Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, who is a rotation nurse, reported her injury to the hospital a day after the incident on the 18th of August and was further treated. There was no evidence of fracture on her left wrist or dislocation of her right shoulder joint as documented by the medical records.

“She has, however, been treated and given pain relief, recommended for bed rest, and received psychological support care,” the committee stated.

The committee’s findings directly contradict claims by the nurse that she was assaulted and left with a dislocation.

Fuel prices goes up day after dollar rose against the cedi

0

Fuel prices in Ghana are set to go up on September 1, following the Ghanaian cedi’s slight depreciation against major trading currencies on the interbank market.

According to reports, the Prices of Petrol, Diesel and LPG are expected to increase by up to 5.40%, 3.39% and 4.47% per litre, respectively, from September 1.

This comes in the wake of the Ghana cedi depreciating slightly against the US dollar.

On August 29, 2025, the Bank of Ghana announced that the cedi is trading at a buying price of GH¢11.24 and a selling price of GH¢11.25 to the dollar, which was a 19 pesewa increase from Thursday’s price.

The pound was being bought at GH¢15.19 and sold at GH¢15.21, while the euro is trading at a buying price of GH¢13.12 and a selling price of GH¢13.14.

On the other hand, in some forex bureaus across the country, the Ghana cedi is trading at GH¢12.50, while the pound is selling at GH¢16.80.

The Ghana cedi has come under pressure in August due to what some market players describe as a limited supply of dollars on the market.

The cedi has moved from 10 cedis 40 pesewas to a dollar to over 11 cedis.

However, Dr Johnson Asiama, the governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has said the current depreciation of the cedi is just a short-term blip and assured that the situation will normalise soon.

Dr Johnson Asiama, in an interview with JOY BUSINESS, stated, “The Bank of Ghana operates a managed floating system in terms of framework; therefore, these blips will happen, but the assurance is that this is a short-term issue and the challenges are being addressed.”

He further added that the Central Bank has adequate and enough reserves to support the market.

The BoG governor added, “Let me be clear, we are not running out of dollars, adding that the gap between market rates and official rates are being driven by bad market practices”.

“We have also taken measures to ensure that liquidity improves in the market, together with getting the interbank market to function adequately,” Dr Asiama stated.

Dr Johnson Asiama further detailed, “The interbank market is supposed to take care of itself in terms of inflows from trade and remittance. Offshoring Foreign Exchange instead of bringing it home, and we have identified these loopholes and are shutting them down”

“Some payment service providers have experimented with crypto and offshore settlement models. While innovation is welcomed, such practices must not weaken the cedi, and we will move to regulate these activities within the law,” the governor has affirmed.

Dr Johnson Asiama revealed current macroeconomic situation is sound and solid, which should impact on the cedi’s fortunes going forward.

The Governor added, “We should remember that Ghana is under an IMF programme, and we are watching our reserves carefully, especially when it comes to our market interventions.”

“So we can be assured that as far as the IMF programme is concerned and Ghana reserves, we are okay,” Dr Asiama established.

NDC shameless for contesting Akwatia by-election – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is shameless for contesting the Akwatia by-election.

The minority leader confidently stated that the NDC as a party has no shame; if they did, they would not contest the Akwatia by-election after the NPP decided not to contest the Tamale Central by-election because of the tragic demise of the MP in a helicopter crash.

Afenyo-Markin urged NPP supporters not to be intimidated and to stand firm, even if their opponents come with guns during the by-election.

Speaking at the 40-day observation of the late Akwatia Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, Afenyo-Markin stated, “If the NDC brings guns, face them squarely with confidence and prayers.”

“Do not let anyone instil fear in you. The things going on in parliament are painful. Go out in your numbers and vote.

The NDC has no shame as a party. If the NDC had shame when we (NPP) decided not to contest the Tamale Central by-election, they should have done the same at Akwatia”, he added.

It will be recalled that the NPP decision not to contest the Tamale Central follows a National Steering Committee meeting held on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The NPP asserts that they believe it would be inhumane and unconscionable to subject the nation to a competitive process in search of a replacement for the late Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

In a statement signed by Justin Kodua, the NPP General Secretary, on August 11, 2025, read, “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has resolved that it would not take part in the Tamale Central Parliamentary by-election to elect a replacement for the late Alhaji Hon. Dr Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, who was among the ecight (8) who lost their lives in service of the Republic in the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The statement added, “In arriving at the decision, the Party considered many factors, including the circumstances under which the Tamale Central seat has become vacant and the possibility of a further polarisation of the country at this critical time.

The NPP is of the belief that it would be inhumane and unconscionable to subject the nation to a competitive process in search of a replacement for the departed MP. The Party believes that the tension and acrimony often associated with the conduct of by-elections in the country should be avoided”.

The NPP statement continued, “It is the considered view of the Party that the greatest tribute that the NPP and the rest of the nation can pay in honour of the departed is not only to win the fight against Galamsey but also to ensure a smooth and peaceful replacement for the good people of Tamale Central.

In addition, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said his expectation is for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw from the upcoming parliamentary by-election for the Akwatia Constituency.

According to Nana Boakye, the NDC has lost five important party dignitaries and going into a fierce contest for them after their burial will not serve their memory.

He noted that the NDC, in respect of their five members who died in the helicopter crash, should not go into active politics just after their burial.

He asserted that the NDC, in respect of their five members who died in the helicopter crash, should not go into active politics just after their burial.

However, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, thanked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for opting out of the Tamale Central by-election.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia thanked the NPP for their decision to withdraw from the Tamale Central by-election and later used an Akan proverb suggesting one should leave a fight rather than wait to be beaten before leaving.

He boldly declared that although the NPP has withdrawn from the Tamale Central by-election, the NDC will still contest the Akwatia by-election.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Akwatia by-election will be held to determine a representative for the constituency of Akwatia following the passing of the late Ernest Kumi.

NPP winning the Akwatia seat hands down – Haruna Mohammed

0

Haruna Mohammed, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy General Secretary, has said the NPP will win the Akwatia by-election hands down.

According to Haruna Mohammned, the NPP are going to prove the Global Info Analytics poll wrong this time.

He revealed the NPP is not sacrosanct, but it remains confident of victory.

The NPP Deputy General Secretary noted that political polls are useful but are not absolute indicators of electoral outcomes.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, August 29, Haruna Mohammed stated, “The keyword here is predict. And the summary of any prediction is based on if. What if the if doesn’t if?”

“We are not sacrosanct, and we’re not saying research should not be done. But the reality on the ground will be different. We will prove them wrong this time because the NPP is winning this seat hands down,” he insisted.

Haruna Mohammed added that the NPP is confident of surpassing the 52% margin earned by the late Ernest Kumi in the 2024 elections.

His comments come after Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, has revealed that the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election has overtaken the NPP’s candidate three days to the election.

According to the new polls by the Global Info Analytics Bernard B. Baidoo, the NDC candidate’s lead has been propelled by voters who want development and SHS and tertiary voters.

In the poll, Bernard B. Baidoo secured the NDC candidate’s lead with 53% and Asumadu of the NPP 47%.

Mussa Dankwah, in a post on X on Friday, August 29, wrote, “ NDC’s Baidoo overtakes NPP’s Asumadu 3 days before the crucial polls for the main opposition in Akwatia. Baidoo’s lead is propelled by voters who want development and SHS, and tertiary voters who preferred Baidoo my larger margin.

Using the committed model, which is likely to be minimum vote for Baidoo, the NDC candidates leads with 53% and Asumadu of the NPP 47%”.

Also, Kwame Owiredu, the NPP spokesperson for the party’s campaign team in the constituency, has expressed confidence in retaining the Akwatia parliamentary seat.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Akwatia on Thursday, August 28, Owiredu stated, “It is vibrating for the NPP. The NPP is poised to retain the Akwatia seat. Even though we are mourning our late MP Hon Ernest Kumi, we are still poised and determined to keep the seat and the grounds bear witness to this assertion”.

“Almost everybody is saying we are retaining the seat in Akwatia, and it is very important because this particular vote is a vote to vindicate and honour the name of Ernest Yaw Kumi,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident of victory in the upcoming September 2 poll at Akwatia.

He revealed the party is determined to honour the late Defence Minister and NDC Elections Director, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Felix Kwakye added that Dr Omane Boamah, before his passing, started laying down work for the NDC to win the Akwatia seat.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “We all miss Dr Omane Boamah. We all know that before he passed on, rather unceremoniously, so tragically, he had started laying down blockworks for a resounding victory in Akwatia.

“So, in his memory, we will carry out the plan that he laid out, and we will build on it and add more impetus to it and ensure that we fine-tune it to deliver victory for us in Akwatia”.

He added, “We will win the Akwatia seat so that the people of the constituency will enjoy all the benefits others properly represented in parliament are enjoying. So, we are confident of victory”.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Akwatia by-election will be held to determine a representative for the constituency of Akwatia following the passing of the late Ernest Kumi.

The military will be on standby in the Akwatia by-election – Police

0

The Director General of Operations, COP Vance Baba Gariba, has revealed the military will be on standby during the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

COP Vance Baba Gariba detailed that the military will only be deployed if the condition makes it necessary.

Speaking to the media, COP Vance Baba Gariba stated, “The military will be only on standby. As and when we need them, then we will deploy them, but if we don’t need the military, then we will not request for the deployment of the military. They are only going to be on standby”.

He further appealed to the people of Akwatia to come out in their numbers to vote, as they will be protected throughout the process.

“I want to reassure all the good people of Akwatia that they should come out in their numbers and exercise their franchise. The GPS will continue to reassure of their safety and security during this period”, COP Vance Baba Gariba added.

Also, Richard Kumadoe, a security consultant, has said the Ghana Police alone cannot guarantee peace in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

Speaking on CITI Eyewitness News on Friday, August 29, Mr Kumadoe detailed, “The police, just like the military, have gone to do what we call reccy, and I believe they have gone to do security mapping. It is also the reason why the IGP met with the political parties to address their concerns. He mentioned that he is going into Akwatia with 5,000 men. Even if every polling station has 30 personnel, he will still have some men at his disposal”.

“For the election to be successful, there are three people who must act correctly. The Electoral Commission must discharge its statutory duty. If we get to Akwatia and the machines don’t come or they come and are not working, that is not the job of the police. If there is voter displacement or discrepancies during collation, it is not the fault of the police,” he stressed.

He warned that the lapses in EC logistics could trigger tension, adding, “For the election to be successful, there are three people who must act correctly. The Electoral Commission must discharge its statutory duty.

If we get to Akwatia and the machines don’t come or they come and are not working, that is not the job of the police. If there is voter displacement or discrepancies during collation, it is not the fault of the police,” he warned.

Mr Kumadoe further observed, “It has always been the case that the politician, who is the third person in the bracket, will not do their work, bastardise the whole process, create all manner of problems, and then blame everybody”.

He concluded by praising the police for demonstrating preparedness. “The police and the IGP have shown readiness to deal with anybody who wants to flout our laws. It is a shared responsibility”.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has alleged that the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, is moving around Akwatia with soldiers, threatening indigenes.

According to the NPP Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NDC is planning to use national security operatives to intimidate voters.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, Richard Ahiagbah stated, NDC plans to “hide behind the guise of national security to terrorise some residents and voters in Akwatia.”

“Richard Jakpa has reportedly been perambulating Akwatia with soldiers, threatening some indigenes and residents to leave the town before the by-election in their own interest,” he claimed.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that any soldier involved in the Akwatia by-election will be considered and dealt with as a thug,” he declared.

Richard Ahiagbah further called on President John Mahama to call Richard Jakpa to order.

“We urge the President, under whose watch national security falls, to call Richard Jakpa to order and ensure that no soldier meddles in the Akwatia by-election,” Ahiagbah said.

Also, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, has issued a stern warning.

According to Mustapha Gbande, any acts of violence or intimidation on election day would be met with equal resistance.

“We won’t bring violence here. NDC is not a violent party, but on the 2nd of September, if anybody decides to come to the town or the voting grounds with violence, they will come, but they will not know how to leave. Violence begets violence”, Gbande declared.

Bawumia’s “aka 9 p3” ad gets Ghanaians talking

0

A campaign ad from the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia camp has gotten Ghanaians on social media talking.

The short ad claimed Dr Bawumia and the NPP came close to their goals in the 2024 election by securing 41.7 per cent and suggested that 9 per cent is all they need in the 2028 election to take the NPP back into power.

The ad posted by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a spokesperson for Dr Bawumia’s campaign in the 2024 election, stated, “We are almost there… The journey continues.. Win with Bawumia – aka 9p3”.

Some Ghanaians reacted to the video by saying, “You guys should better use that stolen money to invest for your kids oooo cos we go make you waste it all”.

Another wrote, “ 2 million u figa e be joke? 😂😂 jokes on u guys”.

“How can loose an election with 1.7 million votes and say we came close? 😁😁😁 this man will never stop lying”, another netizen added.

Additionally, another netizen mocked Bawumia camp, saying, “Are you aware that no Candidate or Political Party has added an additional 9% to the Percentage votes they accrued in the last election since 1992? 😂😂

You guys are funny 🤣”.

One more user added, “The most illogical argument I have ever heard. Nana Addo had 49% in 2008 and got 47% in 2012. What about that?. The most credible candidate is Yaw Osei Adutwum but he won’t get it”.

An extra netizen advised the Bawumia camp to abandon the aka 9 p3 slogan, “You guys should abandon the aka 9 p3 slogan.   Almost 2 million votes.  You are belittling the enormity of the defeat and sounding as though the performance was better.   Poor marketing strategy.  It doesn’t sell the candidate beyond his die-hard faithfuls”.

Also, Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has once again attacked Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his aka 9 p3 campaign.

The Abetifi MP reminded Dr Bawumia that in every election, all candidates start from zero per cent.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, former President Akufo-Addo, who secured  49 per cent in an election, started from zero per cent in the next election.

Bryan Acheampong criticised Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections and urged delegates to consider choosing a new candidate if the party hopes to secure victory in the next election.

In a viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong recounted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised the NPP Zongo community votes, but the NPP in the 2024 election list included every Zongo except one.

He further detailed that Dr Bawumia, as the NPP presidential candidate, did not win a single constituency in the seven regions of this country.

Speaking in the viral video, Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “Look at the results: in seven regions of this country, our presidential candidate did not win a single constituency, not one. I am talking about the presidential.

In the Western Region, he won one; the whole of Western Region, he won one with less than 500 votes. In the Central region, he won two constituencies.

Almighty Greater Accra, he won only two constituencies, and in all of the North, we lost. His promise of winning the Zongo vote for us, we lost every Zongo community except Effutu Zongo. Think about it”.

He further reminded Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that in every election, we start from zero and not the percentage secured in the past election.

Dr Bryan Acheampong added, “Every Zongo in this country we lost except Effutu Zongo, if we talk about it and educate the delegates, what do we do here, aka Nine p3”.

The NDC had 56 per cent. Do you think that they are not a political party? Every election, we start from zero. President Akufo-Addo got 49 per cent, he didn’t say aka 1 per cent.

In the next election, we started from ground zero,  and we moved our seat to 169, and he won. The next election, we don’t start from 41 per cent; we need to bring a candidate that can feed into the NPP winning formula and win the election for us”, he detailed.

Also, the camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has fired shots at the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his idea that 41 per cent of the votes he got in the 2024 elections is awaiting him in the 2028 elections.

According to Kwasi Kwarteng Esq, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign, those remarks by Dr Bawumia are warped logic.

He emphasised that the idea of some 41 per cent of votes in waiting is flawed and illogical.

Kwasi Kwarteng noted that with that logic, the National Democratic Congress will also claim they have 56 per cent of the votes in waiting.

Ken Agyapong’s campaign spokesperson in a post on X shared,  “The idea of some 41 per cent votes ‘in waiting’ is not only flawed but illogical.

By this same reasoning, the NDC could also claim 56 per cent ‘in waiting’”.

His reaction comes after Dr Bawumia called on the NPP delegates to vote for him to build on the 42% of valid votes cast for him and the NPP in the 2024 elections.

Speaking to thousands of NPP supporters after submitting his nomination forms for the NPP’s presidential primaries on August 28, 2025, Dr Bawumia stated, “I owe this party a duty, that if we are to win 2028, we ought not to start afresh from zero. Instead, we ought to build on the nearly 42% of valid votes and work to cross the 50% mark in the next election”.

  • Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
  • Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
  • H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Tensions flared at the 40-day observation of late Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi when NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and his entourage were nearly attacked by angry NPP supporters.

In a viral video, Asiedu Nketia and his entourage, after reaching the 40-day observation ground, were hooted at; the confrontation nearly turned into an attack with supporters of both the NDC and the NPP pushing and shoving each other.

Police reinforcement and the intervention of key NPP leaders, including Michael Okyere Baafi and Henry Nana Boakye, restored calm, allowing him to pay homage.

The NDC chairman, Asiedu Nketia, has led a delegation to the 40-day observation of the late Ernest Kumi.

According to reports, it took the interventions of some chiefs and elders in Wenchi to calm nerves before the NDC was allowed entry.

In related news on the Akwatia by-election, Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, has revealed that the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election has overtaken the NPP’s candidate three days to the election.

Using the committed model, which is likely to be the minimum vote for Baidoo, the NDC candidates lead with 53% and Asumadu of the NPP 47%”.

Also, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident of victory in the upcoming September 2 poll at Akwatia.

Additionally, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has assured the Oseawuohene that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not disappoint them if they vote for them to win the Akwatia by-election.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah led a high-powered delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to storm the Akwatia ahead of the by-election.

The NDC bigwigs, led by Julius Debrah, visited the Oseawuo Division of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional State in the Eastern Region.

Meanwhile, Kwame Owiredu, the NPP spokesperson for the party’s campaign team in the constituency, has expressed confidence in retaining the Akwatia parliamentary seat.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Akwatia on Thursday, August 28, Owiredu stated, ““It is vibrating for the NPP.

The NPP is seeking to retain the seat following the demise of their Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, leaving the seat vacant.

However, the NDC, on the other hand, is mounting a challenge with a better representation for Akwatia.

In every election, we start from zero per cent – Dr Bryan Achempong schools Dr Bawumia

0

Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has schooled Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his aka 9 per cent comments.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, former President Akufo-Addo, who secured  49 per cent in an election, started from ground zero in the next election.

Bryan Acheampong criticised Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections and urged delegates to consider choosing a new candidate if the party hopes to secure victory in the next election.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee has confirmed that five aspirants have completed and submitted their nomination forms.

The five include,

  • Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
  • Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
  • Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
  • H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
  • Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

“A big red salute to His Excellency” – Kwesi Pratt salutes Mahama over his decision not to contest again

0

Kwesi Pratt Jr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has also praised President John Mahama with a red salute.

This follows President John Mahama’s decision not to contest the presidency for a third term.

In a post on X, Kwesi Pratt wrote, “I give a big red salute to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) for his decision not to be on the ballot for the 2028 Presidential elections.

I did not expect less because, over the years, I have had the privilege to know him at close range. President Mahama has been a consummate believer in constitutionalism.

He has always held the view that leaders are not divine entities and must always make room for the democratic process to throw up opportunities for as many citizens as possible to serve.

By this decision, President Mahama has made me proud again as his friend and comrade.

May he succeed in resetting Ghana as he promised in his drive to become President of Ghana”, he concluded.

His comments come on the heels of President Mahama’s refusal to entertain notions of amending the constitution for a third term.

President John Dramani Mahama has boldly declared he will not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections in 2028.

According to John Mahama, stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to hold the line when it comes to Ghana’s fiscal discipline in an election year.

President Mahama, during a bilateral discussion with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, criticised the practice of incumbent governments by-passing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters, a cycle he will end.

“I will not be a candidate in the next elections and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.

John Mahama’s declaration finally put an end to the growing speculation that he may seek another term in 2028.

Also, renowned businessman and Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Sir Sam Jonah, has applauded President John Dramani Mahama over his commitment to Ghana’s democratic principles and constitutionalism.

Sir Sam Jonah described John Mahama’s bold declaration not to contest for a third term as a beacon of hope for the African continent.

According to him, President Mahama is a role model for future African leaders.

In a post on social media on Friday, August 2025, Sir Sam Jonah wrote, “John Mahama’s leadership embodies the values of democracy and integrity. Despite calls to amend the constitution for personal gain, he remains committed to upholding the rule of law and respecting the limits of his mandate. His humility, determination, and genuine commitment to leaving a lasting legacy are traits that set him apart as a leader,”

He further described Mahama as “a role model for future African leaders,” adding that the president’s “dedication to democratic principles and constitutionalism is a beacon of hope for our continent. Let’s celebrate his leadership and vision!”

However, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had already shut down calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on President John Dramani Mahama to run for a third term.

According to Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC has no plan to present President John Mahama again for the 2028 election.

He emphasised that they have never run the NDC in ways that conflict with the 1992 constitution.

The NDC chairman boldly added that the party will stick by the tenets of the Constitution, which states that a president is only entitled to two terms.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “We have never run our party in ways that conflict with the national constitution, and we don’t intend to do that,” he said. “We will stick by the tenets of the Constitution.”

It must be noted that NPP’s Justin Frimpong Kodua started the third term talks when he accused the NDC and John Mahama of plotting to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo to enable President John Dramani Mahama to contest for a third presidential term.

He claimed that the argument revolves around Article 66(2) of the Constitution.

Justin Frimpong Kodua noted that some individuals are allegedly planning to interpret Article 66(2) of the Constitution in a way that implies the two-term limit applies only to two successive terms.

‘Where are the security agencies, Dormaahene, beating war drums’ – Lecturer

0

Dr Eric Bempong, a lecturer at KAAF University, has said the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, is beating war drums with his feud with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The university lecturer noted that the Dormaahene’s remarks could spark a conflict similar to the Bawku conflict.

According to Dr Eric Bempong, the Bawku conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups in northern Ghana also started in a little faction like the Dormaahene feud with the Asantehene.

The lecturer called on security agencies and the Peace Council to act quickly before the situation degenerates into conflict.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, Dr Eric Bempong stated, “Security agencies, where are they? The man is beating war drums. This is the same way the Bawku conflict started way back in 1957. It started small, small like this.

“So, where are the Security Council and Peace Council? If this degenerates into something bigger, are we going to have the peace we deserve? Peace is very expensive, and to get it, you need to be proactive,” he warned.

He further touched on the Dormaahene’s remarks on the Asante’s Golden Stool.

Dr Bempong stated, “Now he is attacking the Golden Stool. If care is not taken, this could be worse. Someone is issuing such provocative statements, and nobody is talking about it. We are being hypocritical”.

“So, those war drums that the Dormaahene is beating, he needs to be spoken to; otherwise, it could generate into something dangerous”, he added.

The Dormaahene is a critic of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and historical narratives that he claims are distorted facts in the country’s history.

The Dormaahene, in his recent remarks, alleged that anyone who claims the Golden Stool was summoned to descend from the sky is a liar.

According to the Dormahene, the Golden Stool, when it was recently outdoored, looked welded when it was displayed in public.

Speaking during the launch of the Bonokyempem Council in the Bono Region on August 14, 2025, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, stated, “If anyone tells you they can summon something to descend from the sky, I, Agyeman Badu II, am saying it is a lie”.

“Didn’t you see when the Golden Stool was recently outdoored, it looked welded? Didn’t you see?” he quizzed.

Also, Otumfuo’s Nanahene, speaking in an interview on Adum TV on August 24, 2025, claimed the Dormaahene was being haunted by the ghost of his late mother after he had ignored investigating the cause of her death.

According to Otumfuo’s Nanahene, the Dormahene’s hatred against the Asantehene will not work.

Otumfuo’s Nanahene stated, “Did he see the Golden Stool that he is questioning whether it is from the sky? Everything the Dormaahene is saying about the Golden Stool does not make sense. He does not know what he is talking about”.

He further revealed that the Dormahene’s own uncle once served at the Manhyia Palace and also respected the Golden stool and quizzed why the Dormahene has changed since he became a chief and is now disrespecting the Golden stool.

Also, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, a controversial media personality, has slammed Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, over his recent comments on the Golden Stool.

Speaking on his For the Records show on August 19, 2025, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah quizzed the Dormaahene whether the Golden Stool is from the sky or not, then so what?

According to him, the Dormaahene had the perfect opportunity to talk about development, but chose to attack the Asantehene.

Afrifa-Mensah stated, “Nana Dormaahene, respectfully, if the Golden Stool is from the sky or not, then so what? The conversations you were having, what beneficial interest will that bring to the Bono people? There are a lot of pressing issues you could have addressed instead of talking about the Golden Stool.

“You had the perfect opportunity to talk about development and how to support the region, but what you did instead was driven by personal interest. What have you done for the people of Dormaa to show off?”

He continued, “Whether the Golden Stool came from the skies or not, it belongs to the Asantes and nothing else.

“You started this attack four years ago, but still, John Mahama continues to engage with the Asantes. Aren’t you tired, Nana Dormaahene? You did this for the NDC, and now that the NDC is in power, you are still attacking the Asantes.”

He added,  “Four years is just a day. You will go back to them, and they will assess you this time based on your performance. So please don’t be misled by other people.”

However, Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapim North, has said the newly sworn-in Ablekuma North MP Ewurabena Aubynn is a product of a violent election.

According to Sammi Awuku, the Ablekuma North MP’s victory left people maimed, traumatised, and severely beaten.

Sammi Awuku stated, “We clearly believe that she is a product of a violent election that left people maimed, that left people traumatised, and also that left people severely beaten”.

“The noisy silence of the law enforcement agencies gives us the impression that these operatives and those who acted in that manner give us an impression that they had the tacit endorsement of the government. Why? Because it is very strange that not a single act of condemnation had come from the quarters of the presidency”, he added.

Ridge Hospital nurse may be arrested for public deceit – Awudu Mahama

0

Awudu Mahama, the Managing News Editor, the Custodian Newspaper, has said the Ridge Hospital nurse, Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, could be arrested for public deceit.

In the wake of the committee set up by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, a shocking revelation was made that the Ridge Hospital nurse suffered no fracture or shoulder dislocation.

Reacting to the committee findings, Awudu Mahama noted that if what the nurse at Ridge Hospital said about her shoulder being dislocated was false, she may be arrested for public deceit.

However, Jefferson Asare, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has insisted the Ridge Hospital nurse was diagnosed with polycontusion.

Also, the Ministry of Health has dismissed allegations that the committee investigating the alleged assault failed to interview the doctor who assessed the injured nurse.

Meanwhile, Kofi Bekai, a private legal, has said Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, the Ridge Hospital nurse who filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of assault and defamation, can still pursue her case in court.

Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of assault and defamation.

Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, in her suit, also accused Ralph Saint Williams of publishing damaging remarks about her on social media.

In the nurse’s writ filed at the High Court, she is demanding GH₵7 million in damages — GH₵5 million for battery and GH₵2 million for defamation.

The private legal practitioner stated, “The only place where a matter can be adjudicated is a court of law”.

“The investigative committee may have conducted a probe and reached a conclusion, but the court can set it aside. The nurse can still pursue her case in court, and the medical examiner who treated her will likely be called to testify”, he added.

The lawyer clarified the legal definition of assault under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to him, assault under the Criminal Offences Act is defined as the intentional and unlawful act of forcibly touching another person without their consent, with the intent to cause harm or pain.

Adding that battery occurs when physical contact is made without consent, and the accused may be charged with both assault and battery, with the severity of punishment determined by the court if it results in injuries.

“Warped logic” – Ken Camp blasts Dr Bawumia over the idea of 41% votes ‘in waiting’

0

The camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has fired shots at the former Vice President Dr.

“I’ve also had the privilege of serving as Vice President and supporting the President and government in our last administration with ideas that have significantly impacted the lives of millions of our people”, Dr Bawumia said.

“The NPP and Ghana are demanding a leader who embodies deep intellect, humility, respect for all persons, unity, courage, foresight, and resilience. As the NPP seeks a leader who represents the character of this party’s tradition and the values of our forebears, I, Mahamudu Bawumia, offer myself to lead the party into the 2028 elections,” he said.

Also, Kwasi Kwarteng launched a scathing attack on the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to a statement issued by Kwasi Kwarteng Esq, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign on Thursday, August 28,  Dr Bawumia is being projected as an establishment choice in the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries.

Ken Agyapong camp boldly stated that under Dr Bawumia’s watch, the NPP recorded its worst results in history in the 2024 elections.

They further added that the official social media account of NPP only streaming Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s filing of nomination was a betrayal.

Parts of Kwasi Kwarteng’s statement read, “The use of the official party’s social media handles to stream only DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal of the very unity our national leadership claims to preach”.

“Under his watch, we recorded the worst results in our party’s history: a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and virtually no support from the Zongo communities,” he stated.

Kwarteng added, “At such a time, the priority should be rebuilding a stronger, united party to restore hope and confidence. Instead, leadership continues to impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses, shamelessly projecting him as the ‘establishment choice’ by giving him undue advantages and platforms.”

“If this continues, leadership should not be surprised when other candidates begin to take their destiny into their own hands. The grassroots will not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual. Never!”

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee has confirmed that five aspirants have completed and submitted their nomination forms.

The five include,

  • Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
  • Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
  • Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
  • H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
  • Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Also, the NPP will be holding their internal elections on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

“My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas” – Dr Bawumia

0

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has shared his vision for Ghana with the NPP delegates after he filed his nomination to contest in the NPP’s presidential primaries.

The former vice president revealed his vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through his rich ideas.

According to Dr Bawumia, his vision includes a revamp of Ghana’s tax system to include a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and imports.

Speaking to thousands of NPP supporters after submitting his nomination forms for the NPP’s presidential primaries on August 28, 2025, Dr Bawumia stated, “My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas that provide incentives and measures, such as a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and imports, and an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and accelerate the pace of job creation for the youth of this country.

My vision is to introduce measures that will reduce the cost of living for the average Ghanaian and provide support for the vulnerable. My vision is to adopt a constituency-based development and budgeting framework in which local people benefit”.

Dr Bawumia, delivering his speech, also urged his fellow aspirants in the party’s flagbearership to focus their guns on the John Mahama-led government, not him.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s true opponent is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not those within the NPP.

He added, “We need unity to win, and I promise you that, just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were to be anyone to create problems in the NPP, it wouldn’t be Dr. Bawumia”.

The NPP flagbearer hopeful urged his fellow aspirant in the party’s flagbearership race to direct their energies towards holding the NDC government.

Dr Bawumia added, “What the NPP and Ghana need is a strong party that can hold the government accountable for its promises. Bawumia has always done that and will do that as flagbearer,”

“For the various candidates contesting for flagbearership, I ask: won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if instead of focusing your guns on Bawumia, you focus on holding the Government accountable to show that you can lead the NPP in holding the NDC accountable? Won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if instead of attacking each other, you focus on selling a vision for the Party and the Country?” he queried.

“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there! We need unity to win. I promise you that just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there would be anyone to create problems in the NPP, it won’t be Dr Bawumia,” he assured.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia further added that the NPP and Ghana are demanding a leader who embodies intellect, humility and respect.

He added, “I am offering myself to be elected as flagbearer because I believe I owe a duty to this party to give her a choice to put forward the most prepared candidate for the 2028 election and the most prepared person to be President in Jan 2029”.

“In the last 16 years, I have had the privilege of joining each and every constituency at least five times, to work hard on the ground, campaign and work for the NPP. Just like the thousands of you who may not have had all the money in the world to throw at the party, all my sweat, my reputation, my knowledge and my person have been dedicated to working with you for the success of this party. As a result of this, there is no village or hamlet, no city or town where Mahamudu Bawumia’s face and name are not known”.

Dr Bawumia further called on the NPP delegates to vote for him to build on the 42% of valid votes in the 2024 elections.

He added, “I owe this party a duty, that if we are to win 2028, we ought not to start afresh from zero. Instead, we ought to build on the nearly 42% of valid votes and work to cross the 50% mark in the next election”.

Also, Gideon Boako has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needs to be given another chance to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to Citi Eyewitness News, Gideon Boako, the Member of Parliament for Tano North stated, “The downfall of a man is never the end of his life. He is not the first to attempt the presidential seat and lose it. Others tried, they lost, they persevered with tenacity, and they were able to make it.

“He equally believes that, if Kufuor tried once, twice and made it, Akufo-Addo tried multiple times and made it, Mills tried multiple times and made it, John Mahama also tried multiple times and made it, why should he sit back?

“He also thinks God will be on his side. He will try again, and he can make it such that he can deliver to Ghana what he thinks God has given him,” he stated.

CenPOA boss slams Asiedu Nketiah over his galamsey remark

0

The Executive Director of the Centre for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah, has slammed the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, following his recent comment on the declaration of a state of emergency on galamsey.

According to the CenPOA boss, he disagrees with Asiedu Nketiah, who said a state of emergency on galamsey was needless.

He asserted that the declaration of a state of emergency cannot be completely ruled out if it can help address the galamsey menace.

The CenPOA boss stated, “I disagree with Asiedu Nketiah, and I believe he was engaging in politics. In the run-up to the 2024 elections, some leading members of the NDC supported the call for a state of emergency, and the party never opposed it. Only rejecting it now that they are in power smacks of political expediency”.

“Galamsey is not only destroying our environment but also taking lives. You would be surprised at the number of lives lost through illegal mining”.

“We lost eight gallant and noble citizens through the helicopter crash due to galamsey. Are we going to allow greed for money to destroy our water bodies and forest reserves?” he questioned.

Also, Professor Eric Abavare, the President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has said he is shocked to the marrow about the remarks made by the Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

According to the KNUST UTAG President, John Asiedu Nketiah, comments on the declaration of a state of emergency on galamsey are reckless.

In a Facebook post in reaction to Asiedu Nketia’s comment, the UTAG president wrote, “I am shocked to the marrow about the recent reckless statement by the  Chairman of NDC, Mr Asiedu Nketiah, aka General Mosquito, regarding the galamsey fight on Channel One TV face to face program.

I am shocked because he decrys calling a state of emergency as suspending the constitution in those galamsey-affected areas. My question to him, Mr Nketia, is, was he in Ghana when the state of emergency was called in Bawku?  Was the Constitution also not suspended then?”.

According to the UTAG President, the NDC has changed its stance on the declaration of a state of emergency on galamsey.

“Before the general election,  was calling the state of emergency not the position of the NDC? Not too long ago, we heard the President of Ghana, HE John Dramani Mahama, calling for the same thing. Since when did the calling of a state of emergency become a constitutional breach and the NDC Chairman change that position of his party and the President’s against galamsey fight?

So he knew this, and they were calling the erstwhile administration to do the same? What a 419 swindle of Ghanaians by the NDC Chairman”, he noted.

Prof Abavare further invoked the memory of Major Maxwell  Mahama and the eight Ghanaians who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash.

“I challenge the ghosts of Major Maxwell  Mahama and the perished eight officials that they sacrificed nothing with needless death for the cause of galamsey.

Mr Asiedu Nketia, I condemn your statement in the strongest terms possible and feel very sad too by it”, his post concluded.

Their comments comes after Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said he does not subscribe to calls from some sections of Ghanaians for the government to declare a state of emergency on galamsey.

Asiedu Nketia warn that the declaration of a state of emergency on galamsey will lead to the suspension of the constitution, which could lead to people shooting and killing at will.

According to Asiedu Nketia, illegal mining is a pressing issue, and the government is working to find solutions to it.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “Work is being done about the galamsey fight, and we hope to be able to find solutions to it. But I don’t subscribe to the declaration of the state of emergency as other people are suggesting. In your frustration, you can call for certain measures that, when we begin implementing, you may live to regret”.

“If you intend to deal with galamsey and you declare a state of emergency, it means you have suspended the constitution. People can shoot and kill at will. How will you be sure that those who are shooting and killing are the ones fighting galamsey? That is another matter,” he noted.

The NDC chairman further called on the public to propose constructive and sustainable solutions to the fight against illegal.

Asiedu Nketia emphasised that the fight against illegal mining must be deep-rooted in the rule of law rather than measures that will undermine Ghana’s democracy.

NDC’s Baidoo overtakes NPP’s Asumadu 3 days before Akwatia by-election – Mussa Dankwah

0

Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, has revealed that the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election has overtaken the NPP’s candidate three days to the election.

According to the new polls by the Global Info Analytics Bernard B. Baidoo, the NDC candidate’s lead has been propelled by voters who want development and SHS and tertiary voters.

In the poll, Bernard B. Baidoo the NDC candidate’s lead with 53% and Asumadu of the NPP with 47%.

Using the committed model, which is likely to be minimum vote for Baidoo, the NDC candidates leads with 53% and Solomon K Asumadu of the NPP 47%”.

Also, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident of victory in the upcoming September 2 poll at Akwatia.

Also, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has assured the Oseawuohene that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not disappoint them if they vote for them to win the Akwatia by-election.

Also, the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, stormed Akwatia to campaign for the NDC candidate.

The NPP is seeking to retain the seat following the demise of their Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, leaving the seat vacant.

However, the NDC, on the other hand, is mounting a challenge with a better representation for Akwatia.

“Bryan Acheampong has to be arrested” – Peace Watch Ghana

0

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, has said the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, must be arrested and prosecuted.

According to the Peace Watch Ghana Executive Director, Bryan Acheampong must be disqualified from vying for the position of President of Ghana.

The Peace Watch director asserted that it is dangerous for delegates of the NPP to elect someone who influences delegates with money, which he has now turned around to describe as incompetent.

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels stated, “I don’t hate Bryan Acheampong. I am not a supporter of Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, or any other candidate. I am a Ghanaian and CEO of Peace Watch Ghana, and I am worried that someone who publicly admits to influencing voters is seeking to be elected as a candidate and later elected president.

“The NPP should be wise because Bryan Acheampong does not even deserve to be elected a leader of a political party,” she said in an interview.

“For someone who claims to have sponsored a candidate who he is today accusing of being incompetent, it shows he is not fit to lead his party and the country. If the NPP elects him as a candidate, doom will come upon the country.

“Bryan has to be arrested. Where did he get the money to pay to the delegates? He ought to be investigated because giving people money to influence their votes is a criminal offense.”

His comments come on the heels of Dr Bryan Aceampong’s shocking revelation that he personally financed the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to become the NPP’s flagbearer.

According to Bryan Acheampong, Dr Bawumia did not contribute a penny during the 2024 presidential primaries in the Eastern Region.

He further stated that he funded Bawumia’s 2024 elections more than he even funded former president Akufo-Addo in the past.

Speaking to some members of the NPP, Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “Dr Bawumia’s primaries in 2023, he did not contribute a penny to the Eastern Region. I paid every single penny for him to become the flagbearer of this party. He didn’t pay a penny, and it is a fact.

In the 2024 elections, I funded Dr. Bawumia more than I even funded Akufo-Addo. I am happy that two-thirds of the people here are from the Eastern Region”, he boldly added.

Meanwhile, Dr Bryan Acheampong has said he has come under a barrage of attacks.

In a statement dated Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr Bryan Aceampong revealed he is focused despite attacks and a misleading video linking him to the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict.

He urged supporters to avoid personal attacks, emphasising unity and ideas over division.

According to Bryan Aceampong, there has been misinformation and personal attacks against him.

Part of his statement read, “Yes, I have come under a barrage of attacks. Falsehoods have been spread about me.

“Fake materials have been shared to question my character. But through it all, I remain focused, not on retaliation, but on restoration,” Acheampong said.

“We are building something far greater than a campaign. We are building a movement to unite and rebuild our beloved New Patriotic Party,” he noted.

Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s statement concluded by saying, “Together, we unite. Together, we rebuild”.

Also, Dr Bryan Acheampong has said the statement he made, widely regarded as a tribal statement against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was factual.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, the statements were facts he was sharing with some NPP party members.

Dr Bryan Acheampng is quoted by GHONE TV to have said, “The so-called tribal statements I made were facts I was sharing with party people”.

Dr Bryan Acheampong, in a separate video revealed he personally financed the NPP’s campaign in the Eastern Region during the 2024 election season.

According to Bryan Acheampong, he funded the party’s campaign activities by giving each NPP polling station executive in November, numbering about 26,000, GHS 2 million each.

Dr Bryan Acheampong further revealed that he also financed 33 parliamentary candidates in the Eastern region with GH¢100,000 every month from May to October.

In a viral video sighted Dr Bryan Acheampong stated, “In 2020, we were in government, so nobody needed my money. But in 2024, the regional chairman and the regional secretary are here, in the Eastern Region, except for about six MPs who were financially independent. I gave each of the remaining parliamentary candidates GH¢100,000”.

“It was from May to October — May, June, July, August, September, October. In November, my regional chairman and regional secretary can bear witness, we have 26,000 polling station executives in the Eastern Region, and I gave each of them GH¢2,000,000 in November to work with at their polling stations,” he added.

“Did Adu Boahene give the NDC $500,000 before the elections or not?” – Captain Smart quizzes

0

Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, the host of Onua Maakye, has quizzed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on whether they received $500,000 from Kwabena Adu Boahene before the 2024 elections.

According to Captain Smart, Kwabena Adu Boahene bought new cars during that period, questioning the whereabouts of those cars.

The outspoken broadcaster challenged the NDC to tell Ghanaians whether they took $500,000 and the whereabouts of the four cars.

Speaking on the Onua Maakye program on Onua TV, Captain Smart questioned, “ I’m about to throw a third bomb. JB, have you heard about the name of Kwabena Adu Boahene, who has been accused by the Attorney General of purchasing 27 houses?”

“Did he give the NDC $500,000 before the elections, or did he not give them? Did the NDC take $500,000 from Kwabena Adu Boahene or not?”, he added.

Captain Smart further added, “He [Adu Boahene] procured four cars, and who received those tier rubber cars? Who kept custody of those cars, and where are those cars now?”

“And who took delivery of the $500,000? Did he give four cars, and where are the cars? Did he pay $500,000, and who took delivery of that money? There’s a question, but I have internationally kept it this way”.

However, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), denied taking money from the National Signals Bureau.

Speaking on JOY News, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer stated, “On authority, I am telling you the NDC has nothing to do with what came out from that story. You see, when they are talking about opposition, they know the opposition they were talking about.

He knows it and everybody knows it, even those people who are referring to help them in their recent demonstrations, you know, their partners, that is what he was referring to, and I am sure everybody would have seen that”.

He added, “No right-thinking person will believe my arch-opponent will give me resources to defeat him in an election, does it make sense?

Meanwhile, Captain Smart on his show also launched a scathing attack on President John Dramani Mahama’s ministers.

The outspoken broadcaster confidently emphasised that apart from President John Mahama, none of his ministers have achieved anything meaningful after eight months in office.

Speaking on his show, Onua Maakye Captain Smart stated, “Come and sit here and tell me you are doing something. Eight solid months. Yesterday, I told JB something, and he was just staring at my face.

In a communication, there is something we call silent communication, non-verbal communication, which is how people call it. The nonverbal communication you looking at the person’s face, focusing on their facial expressions”.

Captain Smart boldly added, “I told them that now eight years is over and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is sitting at home, and now, 8 months have passed.

All the ministries, apart from John Mahama himself, which one of them has brought something important for Ghanaians to discuss? Not even one,” he argued on his show”.

However, President John Dramani Mahama has told his ministerial appointees that Ghanaians expect the NDC government to deliver, and they must deliver without any excuses but with results.

According to John Mahama, he did not select them to occupy spaces but to solve problems.

He further asserted that the business-as-usual approach will not work, and indeed, it must be buried once and for all.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme for Ministerial Appointees on Thursday, April 24, 2025, President Mahama stated, “You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” Mahama stated. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results.”

“We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset”, he added.

John Mahama further warned, “The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all”.

“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity”

“Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” Mahama added.

President Mahama further cautioned that accountability would not be compromised under his leadership.

AG’s office has not lost any evidence in the Adu-Boahene trial – Deputy AG

0

Justice Srem Sai, the Deputy Attorney-General, has debunked rumours that the Attorney-General’s office has lost evidence in the ongoing criminal trial of the Republic v Adu-Boahene.

According to the Deputy Attorney-General, as of June 18, 2025, the Attorney-General’s office had filed all the documents which it intended to rely on to prove the charges against the four accused persons.

The deputy Attorney-General in a post on Facebook wrote, “As of June 18, we had filed all the documents which we intend to rely on to prove the charges against the 4 accused persons in the case.

The documents include contracts of sale, bank wire transfer records, bank account statements, company registration documents, property ownership records and purchase receipts, INTERPOL stolen vehicle records, investigative caution statements and charge statements of each accused person, records of asset non-declaration, a flow chat of money movements through a complex web of bank accounts, and testimonies of our 3 prosecution witnesses”.

Justice Srem Sai further added, “Further, court certified copies of each of these documents have been duly served on each of the accused persons. So, it is not even realistic that the documents could be lost so as to jeopardise the prosecution of the case”.

The Deputy AG further revealed the current state of the trial, “ Before the start of the legal vacation on July 31, the first of our 3 prosecution witnesses had completed testifying and had been cross-examined by the lawyers of 3 of the 4 Accused Persons”.

He added that the Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial will resume in earnest in mid-October when the courts return from the legal vacation.

Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and one other have been charged by the state for stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

According to the charge sheet, Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife stole state funds to the tune of GHc 49 million.

The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, filed 11 charges against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and three others at the High Court in Accra.

“The charges filed against the accused persons included: stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); conspiracy to steal, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960; and defrauding by false pretences, contrary to Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Some of the other charges against them are: wilfully causing financial loss to the state, contrary to Section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); using public office for profit, contrary to Section 179C(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); and collaboration to commit a crime, to wit, using public office for profit, contrary to Section 179C(b) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29)”.

Kwabena Adu Boahene and three others reported to the Accra High Court as the trial of the alleged stealing of GH¢49 million on July 18, as their trial began.

This comes following the High Court in Accra throwing out the former National Signals Bureau Director General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and three others’ request seeking access to documents dating from 1992.

Adu-Boahene and the three others were asking, among other things, for a “further order that the Attorney-General should make full disclosure and produce for inspection and make copies of the various National Security Coordinators’ special operations accounts.”

The accounts consist of the governments of Presidents Rawlings (1992 to 2001), Kufuor (2001 to 2009), Atta Mills (2009 to 2012), Mahama (2012 to 2017), Akufo-Addo (2017 to 2025) and Mahama (2025 to date).

Meanwhile, the High Court in Accra has partially dismissed an application for further disclosures filed by counsel for the first and second accused persons.

Lawyer for the Kwabena Adu-Boahen, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and the fourth accused filed a motion seeking disclosure of several documents, including the bill of lading for a BMW vehicle.

However, Dr Justice Srem-Sai opposed the motion, describing it as legally misinformed.

“This court orders the Ghana Police Service to directly provide all relevant information in their possession concerning the BMW 740D with chassis number J020CM11428 to the defence team,” the judge ruled.

“Campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect” – Afenyo-Markin urges NPP flagbearer aspirants

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, has urged all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants to campaign with decorum, unity, and mutual respect.

The minority leader in a post on Facebook congratulated all five aspirants who have successfully filed their nominations to contest.

Afenyo Markin, in his post, wrote, “ I extend my warm congratulations to all five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom)  who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms. This is an important step in deepening our internal democracy and strengthening the party’s traditions.

As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect. Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development.

Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”, he concluded.

Also, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has told his fellow aspirants in the party’s flagbearership to focus their guns on the John Mahama-led government, not him.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s true opponent is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not those within the NPP.

Speaking to thousands of NPP supporters after submitting his nomination forms for the NPP’s presidential primaries on August 28, 2025, Dr Bawumia stated, “We need unity to win, and I promise you that, just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee has confirmed that five aspirants have completed and submitted their nomination forms.

The five include,

  • Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
  • Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
  • Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
  • H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
  • Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Also, the NPP will be holding their internal elections on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

“I’m on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, vote for me” – Ken Agyapong to delegates

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a former member of parliament for Assin Central and a NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has begged the party delegates to vote for him in the upcoming presidential primaries.

Mr Agyapong told the party delegates that Ghanaians are crying for him.

The former lawmaker successfully filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership yesterday, August 27, 2025.

Addressing party members after submitting his forms, Kennedy Agyapong urged the NPP delegates to ignore the noise and vote for him.

According to him, a vote for Kennedy Agyapong and a victory in the 2028 general election are assured for the NPP.

Speaking to the party members, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “I’m on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying. Vote for Kennedy Agyapong, and victory will be assured for the NPP in 2028. Wherever you go, Ghanaians are crying for Kennedy Agyapong.

“Don’t allow anyone to intimidate you. Party victory is paramount, so let us unite and select a candidate who can deliver,” he declared.

He further added, “You must note that not only NPP delegates will vote in 2028, but the entire voter population in the country. What did you hear from the streets when coming here?”.

“Everywhere you go, you hear the people shout that if you don’t bring Kennedy Agyapong, we will not vote”.

“So my appeal to the delegates is that, listen to what Ghanaians told you when you were leaving home. The message on the street and in trotro is that if you don’t’ bring Ken Agyapong, we won’t vote; at the beer bar, the message is that we will vote for the love of Kennedy Agyapong”,he added

Also, a spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has shielded him, the NPP flagbearer hopeful, against criticisms of his temperament.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s passion must be harnessed for national development.

Speaking to Joy News, Kwasi Kwarteng stated, “Our candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, is a human being. He has his strengths and he has his shortcomings”.

“Even in his shortcomings, we can capitalise on them to develop this country,” he said.

“People see him as having a temperament, but we see him as someone who is passionate about getting things done.”

“If indeed certain utterances of his have caused problems, we will not shy away from taking responsibility and apologising,” he concluded.

In addition, Dr Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has confidently stated that the former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strongest chance of winning the 2028 elections.

He does not have a question about former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s competence.

According to him, Dr Bawumia is a capable leader, but Kennedy Agyapong stands out as the NPP’s stronger contender for 2028.

He detailed that electoral outcomes in Ghana are not just influenced by government performance.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on August 26, Stephen Amoah stated, “I don’t think I have questioned the competence of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia before. Never. My issue is about the high probability of NPP winning or losing the election in 2028. It is not about competence. In winning an election in Ghana, it doesn’t depend only on performance.

“There are a number of factors that will actually impact; they correlate with different degrees, and most of them do not necessarily mean you have performed well or not. We have geographical voting. I have analysed these things and I think our chance of winning with Kennedy Agyapong will be higher,” he stated.

Meanwhile, a new poll released by Global Info Analytics on August 21, 2025, shows the former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is the leading candidate ahead of the party’s primaries in January 2026.

The Global Info Analytics shows Dr Mahamudu Bawumia running away with a commanding 52% lead, with his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP, with 17%.

Dr Bryan Acheampong polled 3%, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Education Minister, polled 1%.

Kwabena Agyapong, former General Secretary, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo all polling less than 1%.

Mahama’s ministers in 8 months haven’t achieved anything worth discussing – Captain Smart

0

Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, the host of Onua Maakye, has launched a scathing attack on President John Dramani Mahama’s ministers.

John Dramani Mahama has officially been sworn in as Ghana’s 6th president under the 4th republic.

He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Torkonoo, on Monday, January 7, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

President Mahama is expected to tackle challenges of corruption, high unemployment, inflation, and public discontent with the economy of Ghana and many more.

John Mahama, in opposition, promised to set up the leanest government with sixty ministers.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has told his ministerial appointees that Ghanaians expect the NDC government to deliver, and they must deliver without any excuses but with results.

“Pages 68 and 69 of NPP’s 2024 election report state Alan’s exit caused the party’s loss” – Solomon Owusu

0

Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has shockingly claimed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election defeat reports show Alan Kyeremanten’s exit from the party caused the party’s defeat.

According to Solomon Owusu, pages 68 and 69 of the NPP’s 2024 election reports clearly link Alan Kyeremanten’s exit to the party’s defeat.

The leading member of the Movement for Change is quoted by GHOne TV to have said, “Pages 68 and 69 of NPP’s 2024 election defeat report clearly state that Alan Kyerematen’s exit caused the party’s loss in the 2024 elections”.

It will be recalled that Alan Kyerematen, an NPP bigwig, left the party after the NPP’s primaries defeat.

He left to form the Movement for Change to contest the 2024 general election as an independent candidate.

In related news, Solomon Owusu has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of wanting to use Alan supporters who return to the party for baboon’s work.

According to Solomon Owusu, despite the amnesty Movement for Change will not return to the NPP.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Solomon Owusu stated, “We want to change the dynamics of our body politic so that when we say yes, it’s yes and when we say no, it’s no”.

He asked, “Between supporters of Alan Kyeremanten and the NPP, who must give the other amnesty? We are supposed to be giving them amnesty to even be talking to us”.

“Now, this whole release is also to tell Mr Alan Kyeremanten and his supporters that we only need your presence to come and do the baboon jobs in the NPP”, Solomon Owusu added.

Solomon Owusu’s comments come following the NPP’s granting all suspended party members general amnesty.

According to the NPP, the move is aimed at promoting unity and reconciliation.

The amnesty has been granted to all members suspended or who have pending disciplinary cases.

On August 16, 2025, in a statement signed by Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the Acting National Chairman read, “I bring you warm greetings from the national secretariat of the party.

I write to inform you that the National Council, at its Emergency Meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025, resolved in the interest of unity and reconciliation to grant a General Amnesty to all Party members who have been suspended or whose disciplinary cases are currently pending before the appropriate adjudicatory bodies.

We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members”, the statement noted.

The NPP’s acting chairman’s statement continued, “Members who have forfeited their membership are required to submit a formal application to he national secretariat for reinstatement. Upon reinstatement, you shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed.

This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead”.

The statement further added, “In view of this resolution, Party leadership at all levels is hereby strictly advised to refrain from any arbitrary suspension of members. All disciplinary matter must be handled solely in accordance with the procedures, principles, and due process provisions expressly enshrined in the Party’s constitution. The National Secretariat requests your full compliance with this directive.

We count on your continued cooperation”, the NPP statement concluded.

However, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the 2024 Communications Director of Dr Bawumia’s Campaign, Hopeson Adorye and other persons who left the party of their own accord must apply to become members again and added that not all who apply will be received back into the NPP.

According to Miracles Aboagye, Hopeson Adorye, and other NPP members who left the party to join the Movement for Change are not part of the NPP’s amnesty.

“Whoever succeeds Mahama will ride on his achievements” – Asiedu Nketia reiterates

0

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated that whoever succeeds President John Dramani Mahama as NDC flagbearer will ride on the achievements of the current government.

Asiedu Nketia called for calm and urged persons interested in contesting for the NDC flagbearer to be very careful about the way they express their ambitions.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “The party has not declared anything,” he noted. “I keep repeating my caution that we have to be very careful about the way we express our ambitions. Whoever succeeds President Mahama will ride on the achievements of the current government.”

He added, “If you conduct yourself in ways that will disrupt the activities of this government in ways that will make the government less successful, then you have a bigger problem,” he said. “President Mahama is only about eight months in office now, and you want to struggle to decide who will replace him—you know what it can cause.”

“If all of us decide today that, ‘Well, people say I can be president, so let me start organising,’ then everybody will be going across the country appointing campaign coordinators. How do you think that President Mahama can focus on achieving anything?”

Asiedu Nketia further shut down calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on President John Dramani Mahama to run for a third term.

He added, “We have never run our party in ways that conflict with the national constitution, and we don’t intend to do that,” he said. “We will stick by the tenets of the Constitution.”

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections is expected to field a new candidate as current President John Dramani Mahama is serving his constitutionally mandated second term in office.

President John Mahama, with just months in his second term in office, has to deal with speculations of surrounding his successor.

The unofficial report gathered suggests, Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, Eric Opoku, and Johnson Asiedu Nketia are rumoured to be eyeing the NDC 2028 flagbearership.

According to sources, Eric Opoku is being pushed forward as John Mahama’s heir, silently, not to create unnecessary attention for the minister.

It has also been alleged that a strong team has been mobilised to advocate for Eric Opoku.

Eric Opoku joins a tall list of NDC bigwigs, including National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

Meanwhile, a recent Global InfoAnalytics survey on the NDC flagbearer race indicates Haruna Iddrisu, the education minister, has become the National Democratic Congress (NDC )’s most preferred candidate to lead the country for the 2028 general elections.

The recent poll shows Haruna Iddrisu is slightly ahead of the NDC Chairman, Asiedu Nketia.

Haruna Iddrisu in the poll garnered a total of 27 per cent, followed by Asiedu Nketia pulling 26 per cent.

The finance minister, Ato Forson, pulled 22 per cent, with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah securing  11 per cent.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also garnered 8 per cent, with the member of parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, polling 4 per cent.

Mussa Dankwah, in his post on X, stated, “Haruna and General knock horns in what may be an interesting race for the NDC, at least from General’s voters’ perspective”.

NPP’s social media handles only streaming DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal – Ken Agyapong Camp

0

The camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has said the NPP’s social media handles only streaming Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s nomination filing is a betrayal.

They noted that this was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of bias that has characterised internal NPP’s affairs.

Kwasi Kwarteng added that if the favouritism continues, other NPP flagbearer aspirants may be forced to chart their own course.

Never!”

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong, a former member of parliament for Assin Central and a NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has told the party delegates that Ghanaians are crying for him.

“There are a number of factors that will actually impact; they correlate with different degrees, and most of them do not necessarily mean you have performed well or not. We have geographical voting. I have analysed these things and I think our chance of winning with Kennedy Agyapong will be higher,” he stated.

Under Bawumia’s watch, NPP recorded its worst results in history – Ken Agyapong Camp

0

The camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has launched a scathing attack on the former Vice President Dr.

Never!”

However, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has told his fellow aspirants in the party’s flagbearership to focus their guns on the John Mahama-led government, not him.

However, 10% of delegates remain undecided, with 9% declining to disclose their choice.

According to the Global Info Analytics, the poll surveyed 2,656 NPP delegates, with 2,560 completing all responses across 263 of the 276 constituencies.

“Violence begets violence” – NDC’s Gbande warns ahead of Akwatia by-election

0

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has said that any acts of violence during the Akwatia by-election will be met with equal resistance.

Mustapha Gbande confidently stated that violence begets violence.

Speaking in a conversation on Citi Eyewitness News, Mustapha Gbande stated, “We won’t bring violence here. NDC is not a violent party, but on the 2nd of September, if anybody decides to come to the town or the voting grounds with violence, they will come, but they will not know how to leave. Violence begets violence”.

Mr. Gbande further charged supporters, saying, “Let us go in our numbers to conduct thorough work. Let us encourage the people to vote for our candidate. We can’t win this election if we don’t go out to work. Let us be encouraged”.

The NDC man revealed that they are encouraging their supporters that violence will not be part of the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

He, however, reiterated that the NDC will not watch for its members to be victims of violence.

“The conversation we are having was to the extent that at no point will the NDC encourage any of our supporters… violence will not be part of the election, but just in case anybody foments violence, we will not watch for members to be victims.

“We will descend, protect any single member of the NDC that will participate in this election. We will protect the vote… that is what my statement means”, Mustapha Gbende emphasised.

Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, has said any soldier involved in the Akwatia by-election will be dealt with as a thug.

According to Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP has received credible intelligence indicating that the NDC plans to hide behind the guise of national security to terrorise some residents and voters in Akwatia.

He noted that the Ghana Police has already deployed 5,000 officers to manage security in the constituency, and also the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has said the military is not needed to maintain order during the by-election.

Richard Ahiagbah further alleged that the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, is moving around Akwatia with soldiers, threatening indigenes.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a stern warning ahead of the Akwatia by-election on September 2.

The IGP revealed that the Ghana Police Service has the men and their eyes are red, so nobody should think of coming to cause trouble.

The IGP assured the public of the Ghana Police Service’s readiness to provide a safe Akwatia by-election.

IGP Yohuno gave the assurance after the Police Management Board (POMAB) visited the High-Risk Operation Training Centre at Akyerematen on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Speaking to recruits at the Police Training School at Kyerematen in the Eastern Region, IGP Yohonu stated, “During the Akwatia by-election, if you come with arms, we (Police) will deal with you with arms.

We have brought men here, and they are trained on how to handle arms. As we are going to the election ground, we decided to come and sharpen our skills for the by-election.

Today, they will move to Akwatia and assess all the threats just to let the country know that we are ready for the election, and all the threats we hear from social media have given us the room to prepare and to remove fear for the electorate in Akwatia that nobody can come here to cause any trouble,” he said.

“We have a video of Ralph slapping a pregnant senior Nurse” – PRO for Nurses

0

Sarah Danquah, the PRO for Nurses, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, has said they have a video of social media activist Ralph St. William slapping a pregnant senior Nurse during the Ridge Hospital incident.

According to the PRO for Nurses in Accra, the Health Minister’s investigative committee did not invite them to present their evidence.

She, however, revealed that the evidence will be made available to GHOne TV.

Speaking on GHOne TV, Sarah Danquah detailed, “Whatever they said, I gathered it and I realised that right from the triage they even managed, when you look at the video very well, immediately he entered there were two people, one in black, one gentleman trying to use a monitor on somebody he went straight to the one in black a pregnant woman and he slapped the face.

There are two cameras straight at the triage. I was not called into the committee, and nobody has asked me for a video. I can show you that once I leave the set, I will give it to the producer”.

She further narrated, “ She was on duty, a senior nursing officer, do you know how long it takes to be an SNO, she is a boss on her own, she was on duty with her colleagues when he came in. Chantelle was attending to a patient with burns, and you went to her and slapped her. In the video, someone pushed him away”.

Also, Jefferson Asare, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has insisted Ridge Hospital nurse was diagnosed with polycontusion.

However, the Ministry of Health has dismissed allegations that the committee investigating the alleged assault failed to interview the doctor who assessed the injured nurse.

Responding to claims by GRNMA Accra Regional Chairman, the  Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, stated, “That is not correct. We have spoken with everybody, including the doctor who saw the lady. He is a specialist, and this committee’s work cannot be rubbished”.

“This is an extensive work that has been done. We are not looking at who is at fault… We are looking at how best we can strengthen our system,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, the nurse at the Ridge Hospital, has filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of assault and defamation.

“I am shocked to the marrow” – KNUST UTAG President on Asiedu Nketia’s remarks on galamsey

0

Professor Eric Abavare, the President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has said he is shocked to the marrow about the remarks made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

The KNUST UTAG President’s comment comes after Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said he does not subscribe to calls from some sections of Ghanaians for the government to declare a state of emergency on galamsey.

However, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, the convenor of the Anti-Galamsey Coalition has called on the government to declare a state of emergency in communities in heavily impacted areas.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, August 18, Dr Ashigbey stated, “We need to deal with this as a national security crisis, and it ought to be dealt with. Another thing we have been talking about is the state of emergency; we’re not saying state of emergency in the whole of the country, not even the whole of the district. This particular community, this thing is happening, declare a state of emergency,” he stressed.

“Offin River in Dunkwa, for example, you can declare a state of emergency and say nobody should go into that water, so that you give special powers to the police, Forestry Commission to be able to deal with these people [galamseyers].”

Boycott DSTV in protest of high costs – CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency tells Ghanaians

0

The CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito, has urged Ghanaians to boycott Multichoice DSTV and GOTV services.

According to Kofi Kapito, Ghanaians must boycott DSTV and GOTV by switching them off in protest against rising subscription costs.

He confidently emphasised that Multichoice’s exploitation of Ghanaians is enough.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Kofi Kapito stated, “We can send them a strong message by just showing our displeasure by switching our subscriptions off to let them know that if they don’t reduce it, we will keep disconnecting our subscriptions”.

“We, the consumers who subscribe to their business, are telling them that enough is enough,” he said.

Kofi Kapito added, “They need to listen to the consumer, the subscriber, who makes them money. Just like in any business, if you are selling and I keep telling you that the cost of your product is too high and you don’t listen, if I stop buying from you, eventually your business might fold up. There is some power afforded a consumer to use to let a business understand that they are unhappy with their services”.

Meanwhile, Sam George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has issued an ultimatum to MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv.

Ghana’s communication minister has warned DStv that their transmissions will be shut down by September 6 if there is no resolution in complying with the key regulatory order.

Sam George imposed a GHC10,000 daily fine on DStv on August 15, for failing to submit pricing data requested under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA).

According to reports, the sanction took effect today, Friday, August 15, 2025.

Sam George emphasised that the fine is a legal requirement under the ECA.

“The law is clear, and we will enforce it. If necessary, we can freeze accounts to protect consumer interests”, he said.

“If not, we expect DSTV to comply with our directive to make subscriptions more affordable,” he noted.

The minister revealed that the pricing data was needed to facilitate discussions on lowering subscription fees for Ghanaian customers.

He noted that the data will include a detailed breakdown of bouquet prices, tax components, and comparisons with at least six other African markets.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday, August 15, Sam George stated, “They said they wanted to provide a consolidated response, and I asked what that meant. They explained that they wanted to submit the information alongside a response to the 30-day suspension notice. The two are not connected in any way.

The suspension notice is saying that they failed to apply to the first request of the Ministry, and per the terms of their licence, we have the power to suspend your licence in the interest of the public or on national security grounds. So, we invoked that clause and suspended it.

While they seek to consolidate us, I will enforce the laws of the land. We have fined them GHC10,000. If on the 6th of September there is no resolution, we will stop any transmission of DStv in the country,” he added.

In addition, Sam George, in an earlier interview, detailed that MultiChoice, the operator of DStv Ghana, is not willing to drop its prices by even one cent.

It will be recalled that Sam George, speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, announced MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

The NCA has subsequently written to MultiChoice DStv, issuing a 30-day notice to suspend the DStv broadcasting licence.

Sam George on JOY FM Super Morning Show on August 12, 2025, broke down the Impasse with DStv.

He stated, “I had made a request for 30%. There’s a reason behind the 30%. In April this year, MultiChoice increased their prices by 15%… at that time, the cedi had appreciated by about 10% against the dollar… So there was absolutely no justification for that 15%. So I’m reversing that 15% and then demanding a further 15% for the Ghanaian people.

They have said to me that they have a position we are not going to drop by even one cent. My advice to businesses is that you don’t fight your regulator”.

“They wrote me a nine-page letter with six graphs and bar charts explaining to me the instability of Ghana’s economy and how our cedi appreciation cannot be trusted to be sustainable,” he recounted with disbelief.

“I wrote back to them and asked them, ‘Since when did MultiChoice become an economic forecasting institution?’ … and sent them links from the IMF, Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s on the future outlook of Ghana’s economy”, he added.

Sam George further revealed that DStv wrote to NCA without copying him in the message, stating they would not comply with his directive for a price reduction in subscription prices.

The sector minister fumed, “They wrote to my regulator, the NCA [National Communications Authority], asking the NCA to write to them confirming that the NCA would not comply with my directive as minister… You write to my regulator; you don’t copy me”.

“When you say you have a low subscription in Ghana, it’s because your prices are not uniform and have led to cross-border piracy on your platform”, he charged.

Sam George further cited MultiChoice court cases in Malawi and in Nigeria, which led to a price drop.

“In Malawi, in 2023… they just shut them down… MultiChoice went to court, lost the case, and four months later came back, offered one week free… and dropped the prices. In Liberia… they slashed the premium package by $30. In Nigeria in 2024… the Nigerian House of Reps passed an instruction prohibiting the increases”, he detailed.

Sam George further announced that Canal+ has reached out to him, and he made Ghana’s request clear to them.

Canal+ has acquired MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, in a $3 billion deal, which will give it control over DStv and GOtv.

Sam George added, “Canal+ has reached out and I’ve made it clear to them if they want to come into Ghana and operate… this is our request. Canal Plus’s attitude is light-years more positive than that of MultiChoice”.

Additionally, the countdown is on and ticking towards the September 6 deadline, with many Ghanaians patiently waiting to see how the DStv subscription prices will be resolved.

“The streets are saying, if you don’t bring Ken, we will not vote” – Ken Agyapong woos delegates

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a former member of parliament for Assin Central and a NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has wooed the party delegates after filing his nomination to contest for the NPP’s flagbearer position.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, the streets are saying that if the NPP do not bring him, they will not vote.

He urged the NPP to note that the 2028 election will not only be for the NPP delegates but the larger Ghanaian voting populace.

Speaking to the party members, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You must note that not only NPP delegates will vote in 2028, but the entire voter population in the country. What did you hear from the streets when coming here?”.

“Everywhere you go, you hear the people shout that if you don’t bring Kennedy Agyapong, we will not vote”.

“So my appeal to the delegates is that, listen to what Ghanaians told you when you were leaving home. The message on the street and in trotro is that if you don’t’ bring Ken Agyapong, we won’t vote; at the beer bar, the message is that we will vote for the love of Kennedy Agyapong”, he added.

Mr Agyapong told the party delegates that Ghanaians are crying for him.

According to him, a vote for Kennedy Agyapong and a victory in the 2028 general election are assured for the NPP.

He further added, “I’m on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying.

Mahama shutting down third term claims an act of proactive statesmanship – Kwaku Azar

0

Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, a private legal practitioner, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration that he will not be contesting in the 2028 election is an act of proactive statesmanship.

According to Kwaku Azar, although the constitutional provisions are against a president running for a third term, Mahama’s declaration gives an assurance to Ghana’s political and social landscape.

He noted that Mahama’s statement was wise in maintaining Ghana’s democratic integrity and political stability.

Kwaku Azar is quoted to have said, “The president’s declaration was a necessary act of proactive statesmanship that goes beyond the letter of the law to secure political stability and democratic confidence”.

The private legal practitioner noted that the 1992 constitution speaks for itself, but effective leadership demands clear communication.

His comments come on the heels of President John Dramani Mahama’s bold declaration that he will not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections.

According to John Mahama, stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to hold the line when it comes to Ghana’s fiscal discipline in an election year.

Mahama, during a bilateral discussion with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, criticised the practice of incumbent governments by-passing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters, a cycle he will end.

“I will not be a candidate in the next elections and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.

John Mahama’s declaration finally put an end to the growing speculation that he may seek another term in 2028.

Also, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shut down calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on President John Dramani Mahama to run for a third term.

Meanwhile, Kwesi Pratt Jr, a veteran journalist and managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, has been vindicated.

It will be recalled that Kwesi Pratt urged President John Dramani Mahama to break his silence on calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on him to run for a third term.

According to Kwesi Pratt Jr, he has known President Mahama for a very long time and knows he is not power-hungry, but his silence only encourages calls for a third term.

Kwesi Pratt emphasised that it is difficult to escape the cacophony of calls for the amendment of the 1992 Constitution to make it possible for President John Dramani Mahama to contest elections for a third term.

The veteran Journalist also emphasised that it is extremely foolish for people to suggest that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one person can be a good President.

He stated, “The suggestion that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one person can be a good President is extremely foolish and must not be encouraged.

I have known President #Mahama for a very long time, and I am convinced that he is not power-hungry, but his silence on this issue only encourages those who seek to misuse his popularity and apparent good work”.

Asiedu Nketia further called for calm, reiterating that whoever succeeds Mahama will ride on his  achievements

“The party has not declared anything,” he noted.

Ridge hospital nurse was diagnosed with polycontusion – GRNMA insist

0

Jefferson Asare, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has insisted the Ridge Hospital nurse was diagnosed with polycontusion.

It will be recalled that Ridge Hospital was thrown into confusion after a self-styled social activist, identified as Ralph St. Williams, stormed the emergency ward and filmed staff while accusing them of delaying treatment for his patient.

In a video that has since gone viral, Ralph is seen with blood on his hands, shouting at doctors and nurses for allegedly ignoring an accident victim he brought in. The footage, which also showed critically ill patients receiving treatment, has sparked concerns about patient privacy and hospital protocols.

According to Ralph, he had waited for over an hour without his ward being attended to. His actions, however, escalated into a heated confrontation, with witnesses reporting that a nurse was assaulted in the process. The hospital later confirmed that the Ghana Police Service had to be called in to restore order.

Additionally, a statement signed by Juliana Hariwa, Head of Public Relations, Ridge Hospital, explained that the incident happened during a period when clinicians were handling multiple emergencies at once. The statement said the activist, together with relatives of the patient, “invaded the emergency triage” in large numbers, disrupting service and creating unnecessary tension.

In the meantime, the nurse at the Ridge Hospital has filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of assault and defamation.

Kennedy Agyapong NPP’s best chance of winning, not Bawumia – Stephen Amoah

Dr Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has confidently stated that the former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strongest chance of winning the 2028 elections.

He does not have a question about former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s competence.

According to him, Dr Bawumia is a capable leader, but Kennedy Agyapong stands out as the NPP’s stronger contender for 2028.

I have analysed these things and I think our chance of winning with Kennedy Agyapong will be higher,” he stated.

Also, Kennedy Agyapong, the former member of parliament for Assin Central and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to give him eight years in power, and he will break Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s records.

Speaking on Talk Time with Kwesi Pratt on Pan African TV on August 2, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You see, I have role models and these role models are pragmatists. When you look at the infrastructural framework of this country, nearly 60% of them were done by President Kwame Nkrumah in just 9 years of his rule.

That is from 1957 to 1966, and up to now, we have not been able to match what he did. I go around the country and I see the things he achieved, so he is my role model. If there’s a president whose record I want to beat, it’s Dr Kwame Nkrumah”.

Kennedy Agyapong further claimed he will be able to beat the late former president Kwame Nkrumah’s records if the Ghanaian’s gave him 8 years to rule the country.

“When you give me 8 years, I will beat his record,” the politician added.

In the meantime, a new poll released by Global Info Analytics on August 21, 2025, shows the former Vice President and NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is the leading candidate ahead of the party’s primaries in January 2026.

Kwabena Agyapong, former General Secretary, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo all polling less than 1%.

However, 10% of delegates remain undecided, with 9% declining to disclose their choice.

According to the Global Info Analytics, the poll surveyed 2,656 NPP delegates, with 2,560 completing all responses across 263 of the 276 constituencies.

In addition, in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries, Kennedy Agyapong finished second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47% emerging the winner.

The NPP 2026 primaries are heating up with the main front-runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Boakye Agyarko have all declared their intention to contest.

NPP bigwigs tried to stop Dr Bawumia from naming me as running mate – Napo

0

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), commonly known as Napo, has said some NPP bigwigs attempted to stop Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from naming him as running mate.

According to Napo, despite several attempts by influential figures within the NPP, Dr Bawumia still named him as his running mate for the 2024 election.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on August 26, 2025, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh detailed, “I am not ungrateful. Look at this big party and upon all the people who were praying for the running mate slot, he ignored all of them and made me his running mate.

I know it was a difficult situation, but a lot of people don’t know. Some bigwigs in the party went to Dr Bawumia to tell him not to make me the running mate, but he ignored them. There are some names that, if I mentioned them, you would be shocked. Some even took him to offices to advise him against me, but still he chose me”.

He further added, “So, I cannot be ungrateful to him… For those who stood in the flagbearership contest, everyone knows Kennedy Agyapong is my friend, but I am still for Bawumia.”

In related news, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has attributed his political success to God.

According to Napo, it can only be God, as in every step he takes, he seeks God first.

Napo, in a social media post on X on August 24, 2025, shared an extract of an interview he had on JoyNews’ Personality Profile.

He wrote, “Every step I make, I seek God first. So, if you look at my political journey, it’s nothing but pure goodness and mercy”, he said.

“It can only be God”, he remarked.

Napo, in his post, further wrote, If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, let Matthew Opoku Prempeh” now say.

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul; then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul.”

Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

Psalms 124:1-8 NKJV”.

In addition, Napo, in a similar video, reminded politicians not to think of the political space as everything is a game.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Personality Profile,  Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh stated, “You live by what you don’t want to be done to you; don’t do it to a fellow human being. You might think that because we are in a political space, everything is a game. If I destroy Napo, I’m very, very happy. But hey, it’s not like that.

What goes around comes around. You might have destroyed Napo with the power of your microphone today, but definitely, you will be destroyed when you least expect it,” he stated.

In addition, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, in that same interview, also stated he was brought up to sit at the table with decision makers.

According to him, he was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service.

Napo further revealed, “I would say that is how I was brought up. I was brought up in a very politically aware family with a history of decades of partisan politics or active political life.”

“I was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service and for public service, meaning you just don’t participate. You participate in terms of regular impact.”

“That is how I was brought up, brought up to prove myself that I can sit at the table with decision makers, and not only the elderly, but a true decision maker.”

He added, “So brought up by grand uncles and uncles far older than myself, whose children were far older than me, and I served all of them, so that’s how I was brought up.”

“So me growing up, having public service has been a duty that has been imprinted in my heart, mind, and everything I do, so even deciding to belong to which associations growing up were all the associations that brought public service to the fore.”

Meanwhile, Napo has refuted rumours that he has switched camp.

He stressed that he cannot be ungrateful to Dr Bawumia after making him the running mate.

Ghanaian real estate mogul Eric Ebo Acquah wins $1m+ court battle against Shelter Afrique

0

Ghanaian real estate mogul Eric Ebo Acquah has won a $1 million court battle against Shelter Afrique.

The High Court ruled in favour of Blue Rose Ltd over a $5.2 million loan dispute, awarding damages for breach of contract.

The court awarded Blue Rose Ltd over $1 million, including special damages for legal/appraisal fees and GH¢500K ($47K) in general damages, citing Shelter Afrique’s breach of the 2016 loan agreement by withholding funds.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Samuel Djanie Kotey, the judge reasons that Shelter Afrique failed to release the $5.2million despite Blue Rose meeting all pre-loan conditions, causing financial losses.

According to the court, the real estate company was vindicated when it repudiated the contract after injecting $3.03 million into the project.

The court added that the legal fees, all in a bid to secure the loan facility from Shelter Afrique, were only for the defendant to breach the contract by not releasing the loan facility.

“From the evidence adduced before this court, there is sufficient evidence that encourages a finding that Shelter Afrique had no lawful justification for refusing and/or failing to disburse the loan facility to Blue Rose Ltd; the latter having satisfied all the conditions precedent to first disbursement.

“Accordingly, this court finds that it constituted a breach of the loan agreement by Shelter Afrique when it refused to disburse the loan despite the plaintiff’s compliance with the terms of that agreement,” the judge stated.

The ruling, delivered July 24, 2025, also ordered GH¢100K ($9.5K) in additional costs.

The background to the story, according to Graphic online, reads, “On December 15, 2016, Shelter Afrique and Blue Rose Ltd executed a loan agreement where the defendant undertook to advance to the real estate company, $5.2 million to enable it to construct 170 housing units of two, three and four-bedroom houses and associated infrastructure for outright sale to the public.

It was agreed between the parties that the $5.2 million was to represent 64 per cent of the total construction cost of the houses to be developed.

The parties further agreed that Blue Rose Ltd would contribute the remaining 36 per cent of the cost of the project, amounting to $2.92 million.

The December 15, 2016, the agreement was further amended on October 4, 2017 and signed by the parties.

The amendment reduced the loan amount, forming the defendant’s equity contribution to the project from 64 per cent to 63.17 per cent and increased the plaintiff’s equity contribution to the project from 36 per cent to 36.83 per cent.

Under the agreement, Shelter Afrique was to be satisfied that the real estate company had injected its equity contribution into the project onsite and ascertained by the defendant before the facility would be disbursed.

After the real estate company had injected $3.03 million into the project, Shelter Afrique failed to disburse the loan because it believed that the plaintiff had not met the full obligations under the agreement”.

SHOCKER – Ridge Hospital nurse suffered no fracture or shoulder dislocation

0

The committee set up by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has shockingly revealed that the Ridge Hospital nurse suffered no fracture or shoulder dislocation.

In addition, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has given the government a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest Ralph Saint Williams and others who assaulted a nurse at Ridge Hospital.

According to GRNMA, the association will advise itself if immediate action is not taken.

Dr David Tenkorang Twum revealed that about eight men physically attacked the Ridge Hospital nurse, leaving her with injuries.

Speaking to the media, Dr David Tenkorang Twum stated, “If anybody can just walk into a facility, like Ridge Hospital, and throw his weight about, and beat like a midwife, and you have other party apparatchiks telling them to edge on, that is unfortunate. We are not happy at all. Our people are traumatised”.

He added, “We are very civilised people. We are professionals. And we are asking the government to arrest the guy immediately and the eight accomplices; we were told there were about 50 guys that day.

But those who laid their hands on the lady there were about eight, including Ralph himself. And therefore, if he’s not arrested within 48 hours, we shall advise ourselves.”

Dr David Tenkorang Twum added, “And we are all guided by law. In that, if you read section 119, subsection 1, it is stated that if you are a worker and you think that your safety is not guaranteed, your life and your health is not guaranteed, you have every right under the law to remove yourself from that danger.

And our people have told us this morning, after interacting with them, that they are not safe. They feel that their safety has been breached.”

Meanwhile, the nurse at the Ridge Hospital has filed a lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams over allegations of assault and defamation.
