NPP members shared money for members to abstain from 2024 election – Alhaji Ishaq claims

0

An Ashanti Regional Communications Director hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, has claimed that some party members secretly sponsored President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 general election.

According to Alhaji Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, Dr Mahamaudu Bawumia was sabotaged internally by some NPP members who deliberately wanted the party to lose the election.

He alleged that some NPP members distributed money for members to abstain from the 2024 election.

Alhaji Ishaq Kyei Brobbey alleged that the NPP individual provided financial support to Mahama to secure victory against Dr Bawumia, who contested on the ticket of the NPP.

He further claimed that a few days before the elections, he got a call from an old friend informing him that an NPP member was allegedly distributing money to influence voters to vote for Mahama or to abstain from voting in the 2024 election.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media, Alhaji Ishaq stated, “Some people sponsored Mahama to contest Bawumia. If Asenso is lying, then I am also lying. I know he is not lying.

“A few days before the elections, I received a call from an old friend who told me that an NPP member was distributing money to influence people either to vote for Mahama or not to vote at all.

“…there is also a gentleman on social media claiming that some NPP members financially supported Mahama to contest Bawumia,” he said.

His comments follow a similar claim made by Francis Asenso Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama and the former Roads and Highways Minister, has alleged that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters sponsored John Mahama to defeat Dr Bawumia in the 2024 election.

According to Francis Asenso‑Boakye, the NPP supporters, unhappy with Dr Bawumia leading the party as a flagbearer in the 2024 elections, sponsored John Mahama ahead of the December 2024 polls.

Speaking on Angel TV, Francis Asenso‑Boakye detailed, “Our contest to elect a flagbearer in 2023 was very divisive, with tension and all that; we even went as far as insulting each other. Even during our campaign, our own words were being used against us by the NDC.

Some of our own NPP people were actively working against our win in 2024, so it was difficult, including some who sponsored the then-opposition party against us. It was a difficult election”.

He continued, “It’s all because of how we conducted our primaries. I have gone to a primary, and I lost. In the NPP, after losing a we support whoever wins the election, but some people do not understand; they were sabotaging the one that won.

I am not talking about the presidential candidate; some individuals in our party supported some other aspirants for me. I had a call from a known activist of the NDC mentioning people who were coming to the then opposition leader. They were giving him money, which is sad. Today, some of these things are being brought up that Dr Bawumia did not perform well, so we should elect another candidate”.

Asenso-Boakye further emphasised that no matter the situation, he will support the NPP right or wrong, adding that he will support whoever emerges winner in the NPP presidential race on January 31, 2026.

“If you are an NPP party, no matter the situation, my party right or wrong, you have to support an NPP candidate. I am not supporting other candidate, but if they emerge victorious, I will work hard for whoever is selected”.

0

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has alleged that there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin alleged that Trybe Net, which has been tasked by the Interior Ministry with the online security services recruitment, is duping innocent Ghanaians and unemployed youths.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure.

The minority leader further alleged that Trybe Net, in connivance with an appointee of the government and she will be exposed.

Speaking in response to the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We are happy they are showing a picture trying to embarrass the former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. Very soon, a senior appointee who is in charge of Trybenet will go to jail.

So the one behind Trybe Net, the one who introduced Trybe Net to the Ministry, who is chopping money. We are happy you are showing pictures. Very soon we will bring her picture. The one in charge of Trybe Net duping innocent Ghanaians, duping the unemployed youths, there are many youths who are looking for jobs, and this Trybe Net with connivance with an appointee of the government she will be exposed, so you continue with Ken Ofori-Atta. So and very soon it will be your turn”.

“As we speak, there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment, Trybe Net. We know who brought that company to the Ministry. Karma has a way, and the Minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure”, he added.

Afenyo-Markin later went on to quiz President John Dramani Mahama if Ghanaans are going to eat macroeconomic indicators and  inflation,

According to Afenyo-Markin, the cocoa farmers have reduced the producer price, and Ghanaians continue to suffer under galamsey hardship.

He also slammed President John Dramani Mahama, saying that one year into his administration, the government is still “acting with slogans and no action.”

He added, “What the president failed to tell the people of Ghana is that one year in government, he is still acting with slogans, no action. Electricity tariffs have skyrocketed, and Ghanaians cannot afford electricity. We have 1000s of Ghanaian youth who were dismissed through a letter by the CJ.

“The cocoa farmers have reduced the producer price, and Eric Opoku cannot be found, and they are telling us, Inflation macroeconomics, Macroeconomics ‘na ye be di…Ghanaians continue to suffer under galamsey hardship, and we expect concrete action to be taken on galamsey.

“To conclude, our elders say give credit where credit is due. Mr President is telling us today that some gains have been made, those gains through this gold for reserve.

The Gold-For-Reserve policy, which they have failed to tell Ghanains is that the Bawumia that they attack is the brainchild of this policy. I will want to urge the government to give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia”.

Meanwhile, Hopeson Adorye, the Director of Field Operations for the United Party, has said the Minority in parliament are in deep waters, fishing for a scandal to smear the NDC government.

According to Hopeson Adorye, the Minority in Parliament is in deep waters searching for a scandal to associate with the John Mahama government.

Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, Hopeso Adorye stated, “NPP is in deep waters, fishing for a scandal to tag this government. That is all. All they are doing is just fishing for a scandal that does not exist.”

“Someone has worked with a company before and is now the CEO. Is he still working with the company? That’s one thing we should do. And I don’t think the gentleman is still working with Atlas,” he stated.

“Awarding contracts — is it the deputy CEO who awards the contracts?” he asked.

He further added, “The difference here is that the gentleman has welcomed the investigations, the probe. He is willing to avail himself for any probe that they want to conduct”.

“When they finish, either both sides are guilty or not guilty. If he’s not guilty, then what is the point? You have wasted state money. Because a probe is not just a probe,” he argued.

“My conclusion is that the NPP Minority in Parliament are in deep waters, fishing for a scandal just to tag the NDC,” he reiterated.

“Macroeconomics ‘na ye be di?” – Afenyo-Markin quizzes Mahama

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has quizzed President John Dramani Mahama if Ghanaans are going to eat macroeconomic indicators and inflation.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the cocoa farmers have reduced the producer price, and Ghanaians continue to suffer under galamsey hardship.

Speaking in response to the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Afenyo-Markin stated, “As we speak, there is a scandal looming in security services recruitment, Trybe Net. We know who brought that company to the Ministry. Karma has a way, and the Minority will pursue the person and make sure there is full disclosure.

The Gold-For-Reserve policy what they have failed to tell Ghanains is that the Bawumia that they attack is the brainchild of this policy. I will want to urge the government to give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia.

The minority leader’s comment follows the 2026 State of the Nation Address by President Mahama, who declared that Ghana is once again back and is working again.

According to President Mahama, Ghana’s economy is stabilising and returning to growth.

Mahama stressed that the path for Ghana’s recovery had been challenging, but the economic measures taken by his government are yielding results.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, 27 February, President Mahama stated, “I was clear from the outset that recovery would not come easily, but I was also clear that I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians”.

“I promised then that just as I have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I would reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he stated.

“Mr Speaker, I told this August House when I appeared before you last year that we would have to take tough, prudent and necessary decisions to restore stability and credibility. Today, I can say with confidence: Ghana is back. Ghana is working again. And Ghana is open for business.”

“The fundamentals are improving, and the path to sustained acceleration is very clear to everyone,” he said, adding that the government deliberately prioritised discipline and reform over waste and speculation.

President Mahama added, “From the outset, we resolved to choose discipline over waste, reform over excuses, and stability over speculation. As a responsible government, our first order of business was to halt the economic haemorrhage and restore order to our public finances.

“These measures have begun to deliver some of the most remarkable economic outcomes in decades,” he told the House.

“We approach this celebration not only with pride in our past but also with renewed hope for our future. We are building prosperity through sound policy, responsible governance, and inclusive growth,” he said

“Our Resetting Ghana agenda is working. Our nation is on the runway; it is in takeoff mode. And you are all advised to fasten your seat belts,” Mahama added.

Ghana cocoa farmers to be paid double Ivory Coast cocoa price – Majority leader

0

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has said Ghanaian cocoa farmers would receive more than twice the price offered to farmers in the Ivory Coast.

The Majority leader cited a Reuters report showing that the Ivory Coast will pay cocoa farmers 800 to 1,000 CFA francs per kilogramme from March 1.

He explained that the 800 to 1,000 CFA francs per kilogramme will be equivalent to around 980 to 1,225 Ghana cedis per 64kg bag.

Speaking on the floor of parliament after John Dramani Mahama delivered the 2026 State of the Nation Address, Mahama Ayariga stated, “Mr Speaker, it seems today is about cocoa prices. I can understand. Mr Speaker, let me read Reuters today. Reuters has confirmed, Ivory Coast will pay cocoa farmers 800 to 1,000 CFA francs per kilogramme for the mid-crop starting March 1.

The main crop price was 2,800 CFA francs per kilogramme. When converted to Ghana cedis, this is about 980 to 1,225 Ghana cedis per 64kg bag,” he said.

Also, President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price is difficult but necessary.

Mahama explained that the reduction was aimed at addressing acute liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector.

According to John Mahama, maintaining the previous price would have compelled the government to borrow billions, which he says could have taken the country back into economic difficulties.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, President Mahama explained, “Mr Speaker, a nation that does not learn from past mistakes cannot get out of the cycle of problems that impose hardship on its citizens.

We have just begun to emerge from the most devastating economic crisis in our nation’s recent history. This crisis was triggered by general financial indiscipline, huge deficits and massive debt occasioned by persistent unbudgeted expenditure to meet the ends of convenient politicking.

In the last few weeks, we have had to take the painful but necessary decision to revise the producer price of Cocoa to achieve competitive pricing and resolve acute liquidity challenges in the sector. Failure to do so would have meant pumping in billions of borrowed funds”.

He added, “This unplanned expenditure would have taken us right back to the very devastating economic problems we have only recently begun to escape.

So, while fully understanding the concerns and protests of our farmers, I can firmly assure them that the reforms announced by the government will see a total transformation of the sector and guarantee them a fair price that enables them to meet the cost of producing the commodity and make decent margins.

The difference between economic hardships and avoiding the same is the exercise of sound economic judgement, and I am determined to take decisions that ensure our collective wellbeing and avoid suffering for all our citizens.”

“Give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia” – Afenyo-Markin tells Mahama

According to Afenyo-Markin, the Gold-For-Reserve policy is the brainchild of former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia.

The minority leader further slammed President John Dramani Mahama, saying that one year into his administration, the government is still “acting with slogans and no action.”

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said his government did not arrest the dollar, but rather strengthened the cedi to put up a good fight against other currencies.

According to John Mahama, his government’s objective was not to artificially control foreign currencies but to strengthen the cedi to compete effectively on the international market.

He detailed that the Ghana cedi recorded significant gains against major international currencies, appreciating by 40.7 per cent against the US dollar, 30.9 per cent against the British pound, and 24 per cent against the euro.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, President Mahama stated, “We made currency stability a priority, and we have delivered. We did not arrest the dollar; we strengthened the cedi to put up a good fight against other currencies”.

Mahama boldly declared that Ghana is once again back and is working again.

Agradaa to be release on March 3 – Lawyer

Richard Asare Baffour, lawyer for convicted evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, commonly known as Agradaa has announced that his client is expected to be released on March 3, 2026.

The lawyer explained that Agradaa will be released under Ghana’s remission policy.

It will be recalled that Agradaa’s sentence was reduced by the Amasaman High Court, describing Agradaa’s original punishment as harsh and excessive under the circumstances of the case.

The Amasaman High Court, in its decision, affirmed her conviction but exercised its discretion to vary the sentence, reducing the 15 years of hard labour earlier imposed by the trial court.

Agradaa’s revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, which means she will serve a total of 12 months in prison.

The court decision will now see Agradaa being freed from prison by July 2026.

The Amasaman High Court added that although the offences for which Agradaa was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate under the circumstances, justifying a downward adjustment.

Also, Richard Asare Baffour Esq, the lawyer for evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, has detailed that the earliest her client could be released is 3rd March, 2026.

Agradaa’s lawyer in a news card shared by GHOne TV stated, “The earliest possible release date for Agradaa is 3rd March this year”.

Speaking in a recent video shared on X, Agradaa lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour stated, “When a court imposes a jail term, the prison itself has a remission scheme in place which is available for every prisioner of which Mama Pat is also included.

If you qualify for this, the jail term is divided into three; the prisoner gets to spend two-thirds of it, and the state also takes care of the one-third. In our case, 12 months was handed down to our client, that will translate to 8 months”.

He added, “Meaning if you are to do your computation 8 months sentence from the 3rd of July, that will take her to the 3rd of March. Which is out there is this speculation he will be out on 3rd March, and it is rightly so, it is not any special dispensation given to her”.

Meanwhile, a video has surfaced of Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa’s Heaven Way Champions International Ministry, undergoing renovation in preparation for her release.

In the viral video shared on X, Agradaa’s church was being repainted and renovated ahead of her expected release.

Reports suggest that the preparations are said to be part of plans to give her a grand welcome upon her return.

However, some Ghanaian legal practitioners are mounting pressure on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, to appeal Agradaa’s reduced jail term by the Amasaman High Court.

Following the Amasaman High Court decision, Samson Lardy Anyenini, a legal practitioner and broadcast journalist, has told the Attorney General to act and appeal the reduced sentence handed to evangelist Patricia Asiedua, commonly known as Agradaa.

According to Anyenini, Agradaa was convicted of misdemeanour and second-degree felony.

He stressed that under the old legal regime, the maximum custodial sentence should not exceed 10 years.

Samson Lardy Anyenini urged the Attorney General to take up the matter in the Court of Appeal to reverse the sentence.

Anyenini further urged the AG to overturn the sledgehammer ruling and restore the teeth to our criminal justice system, warning that failure would amount to an abdication of the state’s duty to protect the public.

“EOCO has recovered more than GH₵600m” – Mahama to critics of ORAL

0

President John Dramani Mahama has annoucned that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has recovered more than GH₵600 million in stolen public funds.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, President John Mahama detailed, “As of December 2025, EOCO had recovered more than GHS 600 million.

The Office has investigated 462 cases, with 15 currently under prosecution, and dismantled transnational car-jacking syndicates, recovering 29 luxury vehicles”.

President Mahama further stressed that his government remains resolute in the quest to recover stolen public resources.

Mahama detailed, he understand that majority of Ghanaians are impatient about the NDC government ORAL but argued that painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared.

Mahama added, “Mr Speaker, the Government remains resolute that corruption will not be tolerated, regardless of status or political affiliation. The Attorney General’s Office will continue to use both criminal prosecution and non-conviction-based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that stolen public resources are returned for national development.

I understand that a large majority of Ghanaians are impatient to see those who abused their trust in office held to account.

There were periods when, under military regimes and unconstitutional governments, extrajudicial means could be used to exact retribution against persons perceived as corrupt or who had abused the public trust”.

He added, “This may have appeared as swift justice, but many regrettable excesses were recorded. In 1992, we overwhelmingly adopted the 1992 constitution to accept governance by the rule of law.

On 7th January 2025, I swore before the people of Ghana to uphold the 1992 Constitution. I may be as impatient as everyone else to see justice done, but painstaking investigations must be conducted, dockets must be prepared, charges must be filed, and the accused must have their day in court, including appealing even the smallest points of law to higher courts.

This process is necessary to protect us all against abuse or ill-treatment of citizens and to ensure that only those guilty of offences against the state are punished”.

Last year 2025, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has announced that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has exceeded its 2025 recovery target.

The Attorney General highlighted that EOCO exceeded its 2025 recovery target by over GH¢133.4 million.

According to the Attorney General, EOCO recoveries currently stand at GH¢337.4 million, which is the highest in the agency’s history.

Speaking during the Government’s Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Dr Ayine stated, “Now, in terms of recoveries, the Economic and Organised Crime Office has exceeded the 2025 target, which was set at GH¢200 million. Recoveries currently stand at GH¢337.4 million. This figure means that it has exceeded its 2025 recovery by over GH¢133.4 million”.

“This is the highest recovery in the history of the agency. The recovery represents completed cases of both direct and indirect recoveries. Direct recoveries are recoveries that are deposited directly into the exhibit account of the office. This currently stands at about GH¢194 million.

“Indirect recoveries, on the other hand, are recoveries that are paid directly to either GRA or the consolidated fund. This amount stands at GH¢142.6 million. The success story of the Economic and Organised Crime Office shows that institutions matter, but institutional leadership is crucial,” he added.

Video – Minority stage protest holding cocoa pods chanting in opposition to the cocoa prices reduction

0

The Minority Members of Parliament has staged a symbolic protest on the floor of the House, holding cocoa pods and chanting in opposition to the recent reduction in cocoa prices.

Moments before President John Dramani Mahama began delivering his State of the Nation Address the minority MP’s in black staged their protest holding cocoa pods chanting .

However, majority MPs broke into a celebratory Twi chorus — “Ɔde asɛmpa na aba oo, Ɔde asɛmpa na aba ooo” — meaning “He has brought good news.” The chant was interspersed with references to the government’s proposed “24-Hour Economy”.

Nonetheless, the Minority caucus responded with a chant, “atɔ nsuom” which translate as “it has fallen into water”, a phrase attributed failure.

However, President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price is difficult but necessary.

So while fully understanding the concerns and protests of our farmers, I can firmly assure them that the reforms announced by the government will see a total transformation of the sector and guarantee them a fair price that enables them to meet the cost of producing the commodity and make decent margins.

The difference between economic hardships and avoiding the same is the exercise of sound economic judgement, and I am determined to take decisions that ensure our collective wellbeing and avoid suffering for all our citizens.”

Decision to reduce cocoa producer price difficult but necessary – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said his government’s decision to reduce the cocoa producer price is difficult but necessary.

In related news, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has told Cocoa farmers in Ghana to remain calm as the Mahama government has prudent policies for them.

According to Asiedu Nketia, cocoa farmers must hold the Akufo-Addo government responsible for the ongoing mess in Ghana’s cocoa sector.

He asserted that the Mahama government has established a committee to investigate issues in the cocoa sector, and soon, Ghanaians will see the consequences.

Asiedu Nketia made this known during his thank-you tour in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa of the Central Region, urging cocoa farmers to remain patient.

The Mahama Administration is committed to tracking and dismantling all dark web illegal recruitment schemes operating within our jurisdiction. This is not our war and we cannot allow our youth to become human shields for others.

It is noteworthy that our two captured compatriots spoke out passionately about the grave dangers during my visit and cautioned the youth not to be tempted, regardless of the monetary enticements — I expect all our young people to listen to them”.

My father was required to offer a “brown envelope” before receiving his pension benefits – GNFS officer recounts

0

A senior officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recounted how her retired father was required to offer a “brown envelope” before being able to receive his pension benefits.

According to the GNFS Officer, his retired father was forced to pay a bribe to receive his pension benefits.

She detailed that her father made a vow as a committed Christian, never to engage in bribery, but the circumstances surrounding his father receiving his pension forced him to.

Speaking at a National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) dialogue, she highlighted the incident, noting the extensive rot in the Ghanaian society and its implications on citizens.

In a video shared on X, the GNFS officer stated, “My father promised himself, as a strong Christian, never to pay a bribe. He ran from Ho to Accra for more than a year. Then, one time when I called him, I said, ‘Papa, I need money.’ He said, ‘My daughter, my retirement money has not been given to me.’ Then I consulted an elderly man, and he said, ‘Tell your father to do an envelope.’

Whenever my father got to the office, the woman would tell him they could not find his file. But on the very day my father paid that bribe, the file was brought out. So, this tells all of us that our systems are not working”, she recounted.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the GNFS officer’s remarks stated, “Good, she is saying something. One problem we have as a country is that when we experience extortion at government offices, we hardly call the people there out. If we consistently call people out over these things, people will sit up”.

A netizen added, “A driver made a wrongful u-turn around kotobabi but Kotobabi dispatch duty officer took his key and sent him to Kotobabi police station and took GHC 500.00 before releasing his car”.

One more Ghanaian added, “Ei, this one is sad. A man serves Ghana finish, retire, and before he gets his own pension, he has to give a “brown envelope”. That tells you how bad the system has become.

If this can happen to the father of a senior officer in the Ghana National Fire Service, then the ordinary Ghanaian doesn’t stand a chance. This thing is not right at all”.

A netizen added, “I haven’t been upgraded since 2022 simply because of this issue. The HR and IPPP coordinator are all bent on an equal share of my arrears agreement before they work on it”.

“But why did they hold her hand and hand her to the CFO? She got employed through “whom u know”. Wasn’t that corruption? Corruption has just changed phases”, one more netizen added.

Additionally, one more X user added, I love Ghan, but take it from me, even to get your pay processed as a teacher or Nurse by the IPP man at your district directorate, you must pay a bribe.

We all see the rot, but the truth is, if you don’t pay, you will suffer more than those who pay”.

One more X user added, “When a retired man has to hand over a ‘brown envelope’ just to access the pension he worked his whole life for, we know our society is in crisis. It’s a reflection of a widespread culture of corruption. We need more than just talk, we need a government that will hold these sectors accountable and root out the greed that makes people exploit their fellow citizens”.

“No one can overthrow me as a family head” – Abusuapanyin Tupac

Victor Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, the family head of late Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has broken his silence following calls demanding his removal as family head.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, no one can remove him from his position as a family head except the Asantehene.

Speaking in an interview on Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Abusuapanyin Tupac stated, “No one can overthrow me as a family head except Otumfuo. People don’t show respect and are just talking without understanding. Who is Mama China anyway? If a family head organises a funeral, I answer only to my family.

A post-funeral review is for us, not for bloggers or outsiders. Mama China and her group need to understand that they are not part of the Ekuona clan. Even if two Ekuona members join them, that does not make them our family,” he said.

His remarks follow Mama China, spokesperson for the elderly women advocating for his removal, slamming him for allegedly organising Lumba’s funeral without involving the singer’s first wife or elder sister.

According to Mama China, the family has issued a two-week ultimatum for Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu to appear before the Chiefs of Parkoso.

“We have given him a two-week period to appear before the Chiefs on March 11, 2026, to answer our questions or face the consequences,” she added.

Meanwhile, following the burial of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, there are still ongoing controversies surrounding the post-burial ceremony and where he was buried.

In a latest development, a video has surfaced from a family meeting where a woman appears possessed by the spirit of the late Daddy Lumba, addressing a plot to remove the family head, Abusuapanin Tupac, over unresolved burial disputes.

In the viral video shared on X, the alleged old woman possessed by Lumba’s spirit stated, “I have been buried in the house I lived in at Accra, that is where he buried me. This is Lumba speaking. God has sent this woman to bring me home, so whatever the woman is saying is the truth.

Bring me back home, if you will not bring me back home, look for where this woman is staying, because the woman who is speaking is the one who will let angels take my soul back home to join the family. So that I will be able to go to the other world. Because where I am, what to eat and what to drink, I do not have, but if I am brought home, I will get something to eat and drink”.

The woman was later quizzed on whether Lumba died because of a sickness or not. She stated, “Whether someone killed me or not, it will be known for all those still living on earth, so be patient”.

The old woman possessed by Lumba further added that when the family asked the Abusuapanin where Lumba was buried, and he refused to disclose it to them, they should not quarrel with him, adding that they can call on God to sit with him to ask him.

Also,  an aunt of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has said the family is distressed over their inability to access his body.

The aunt expressed dissatisfaction with the family head for preventing them from seeing Lumba’s body or knowing where he was buried.

According to her, they are being tormented by Daddy Lumba’s ‘ghost’.

Addressing the media on February 17, 2026, she stated, “Abusuapanyin disappointed us, and it’s a big disgrace to us, the family. I’ve never seen or heard before that someone will die and we can’t see his body till date”.

“We are really suffering. When you’re sleeping, he would just be on you. His ghost keeps tormenting us. We are pleading to everyone to put us into prayers,” she stated.

The aunt of Lumba added, “There’s a lot going on, and everyone has something to say. For us, we are behind the truth. Since the family is divided, some are happy, and others too are sad,” she shared.

“I’m a busy person, but I’m here because of the love I have for the family. Some of you are not family members, but we’ve seen the love you’ve been showing us, and we appreciate you all,” she said

“We will try as much as we can, no matter what, to find Daddy Lumba’s body,” she added.

New smart meters capturing accurate consumption – ECG tells Ghanaians

0

Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the General Manager for External Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said the newly installed smart meters by the ECG are capturing accurate consumption of consumers.

According to Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the old meters were defective and failed to capture actual consumption.

He detailed that the smart meters are designed to record precise electricity usage.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, February 25, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku stated, “If you are using an old car, the efficiency wouldn’t be like that of a new car. So if you are using an obsolete meter that is not able to capture the correct readings, that is what you are going to experience.

“If you have a meter which is smart and able to capture accurate readings, that is the experience they are going to have.

“We have intensified our education for our customers that the meters they were using are defective and malfunctioning, and were not capturing the right consumption, and that was affecting our revenue,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has given Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) a 48-hour ultimatum to resolve consumer concerns about the rapid depletion of prepaid electricity units.

The 48-hour ultimatum follows an emergency meeting that was convened to address widespread complaints of over-billing.

Dr Shafic Suleman, the Acting Executive Secretary of PURC, stressed that the move is aimed at safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring improved service delivery.

He further expressed confidence that ECG would act swiftly to resolve the matter, warning that the Commission would not hesitate to apply lawful measures should the company fail to meet the directive.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, February 26, Dr Shafic Suleman stated, “The consumer must be protected, safeguarded, and be able to have equal access to ECG, and that is the focus. ECG is supposed to work timeously to solve the problem”.

The development follows the PURC, which had earlier ordered the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to an emergency meeting over public complaints about fast-draining prepaid units.

According to the PURC, they have not received public complaints that prepaid units were running out faster than expected after the implementation of the revised tariffs.

In a letter dated February 25, 2026, the PURC stated, “Given the regulatory, technical and consumer protection implications, and the potential impact on public confidence in the metering and vending systems, the Commission is convening an emergency meeting”.

In related news, the Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has ordered the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to probe rapid prepaid credit depletion complaints.

The announcement was made known by Richmond Rockson, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, who was responding to a social media post on X.

According to Richmond Rockson, the Energy Minister has taken note of the rapid prepaid credit depletion complaints and has directed the ECG to provide a report within 7 days.

In his statement posted on X, Richmond Rockson wrote, “The Minister of Energy and Green Transition Hon. Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has taken notice of these complaints and has directed ECG to investigate and provide a report to him within 7 days for further action”.

US Department of Justice confirms receipt of Ofori-Atta’s extradition packet – OSP reveals

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has informed the Accra High Court that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has confirmed the receipt of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition packet.

According to the OSP, a summons and charge sheet have been transmitted to Ken Ofori-Atta with an immigration violation proceeding and extradition proceedings pending against him.

In the case of Ken Ofori-Atta’s Chief of Staff, Ernst Darko Akore, the OSP told the High Court that they had informed the US Department of Justice to adopt the most expedient and judicious approach available under their laws to arrest Mr Akore, a dual US-Ghanaian citizen.

The OSP sharing update was disclosed in court on Thursday, 26 February 2026, in a post-on X wrote, “The court sought clarification on the presence of the first and second accused persons—Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta (A1) and his Chief of Staff, Ernst Darko Akore (A2).

The Special Prosecutor informed the court that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), through the Attorney-General, has requested advice from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on whether to arrest Mr Akore, a dual US-Ghanaian citizen, prior to serving him with a summons, or to serve the summons before any arrest. The OSP advised that US authorities should adopt the most expedient and judicious approach available under their laws.

Regarding Mr Ofori-Atta, the DOJ confirmed receipt of the extradition packet and indicated that the summons and charge sheet have been transmitted to A1. Two proceedings are currently pending against him: immigration violation proceedings and extradition proceedings.

Meanwhile, proceedings in Ghana will continue.

Earlier, prosecutors refiled the charge sheet in respect of the sixth accused, Kwadwo Damoah (A6), following his application before a previous judge to have his official titles included. Consequently, the charges were read afresh to reflect his designation as Hon. Col. (Rtd) Kwadwo Damoah.

The case was adjourned to 26 March 2026, with disclosures expected to continue during the period of adjournment”, the OSP post concluded.

In related news, the United States immigration court has denied former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta bail.

Reports suggest that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bail, which was heard on February 19, 2026, was unsuccessful.

According to veteran journalist Alfred Ogbamey, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta had prayed the court to grant bail to allow him to seek medical attention.

Nevertheless, the presiding judge, David Gardey, denied the request.

Judge Gardey reportedly ruled that bail was unnecessary, arguing that Ofori-Atta has access to adequate medical care at the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility where he is being held.

Parts of the post shared by the veteran journalist stated, “At his hearing last Thursday, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta argued that he should be granted bail to access proper medical care. Sources say the Judge refused the request, insisting that the former minister has access to adequate medical needs at the ICE facility”.

Also, TV3 in a post stated, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta remains in detention in the United States after a bail application in his immigration case was unsuccessful, according to sources familiar with the proceedings”.

SAD – Charles Amissah, who was refused emergency care by 3 hospitals to be laid to rest today

0

29-year-old Charles Amissah, a hit-and-run victim who was turned away by three hospitals in Accra, will be laid to rest today, Friday, February 27.

Dr Matilda Amissah, Sister of the late Charles Amissah, detailed that the preparations are ongoing to ensure a solemn ceremony at the Methodist Church in Accra.

It will be recalled that the victim of a hit-and-run incident at Nkrumah Circle Overpass in Accra was allegedly refused emergency care by three major hospitals in Accra due to no vacant beds.

According to reports, for close to three hours on February 6, 2026, the victim was denied treatment by Ridge, Police, and Korle Bu hospitals before passing away.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk and other food products.

In a separate interview, Dr Matilda Amissah has said Korle Bu’s interdiction won’t bring his brother back, but it is a step forward.

Reacting to the news of the interdiction of four Health workers, she asserted that it is a step forward, adding that there are still bigger issues in the Ghana health care system that need to be addressed.

Speaking on JoyNews on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Dr Matilda Amissah said, “I think a couple of people spoke to me, and I was like, it won’t bring back Charles. Charles is gone, but at least it’s a step that we have taken. The bigger issue is still there, and we would have to handle it. Charles is gone, and we are still sad”.

“He was a very quiet, loving young gentleman. He was the backbone of the house and supported my mum in everything. Because he was an engineer, he could dismantle and put things back together within the twinkle of an eye,” she recounted.

Dr Matilda Amissah further disclosed that the family initially thought Charles was missing and reported the matter to the police, adding that they were later contacted by the Nima Police Station to identify a victim involved in an accident.

She added, “We thought he was missing, so we looked for him and reported to the police. They also did their part to search for him until the Nima Police Station called to say there had been an accident and that we needed to identify someone. We went to the Korle Bu mortuary, and there he was. Later, we realised that the National Ambulance Service had picked him up and taken him to three facilities for close to three hours, yet nobody attended to him”.

“I was like, wow. I know we have a lot of issues in the healthcare system that we have to address, but I was still heartbroken, and I’m still heartbroken. I’m smiling, but my heart is heavy. We’re hoping that things will change,” she added.

“We are comforted in the Lord. We know that things will change from whatever has happened. We can’t say much, but we put our trust in God,” she stated.

Her remarks follow, the Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has suspended two medical doctors and two nurses after reports that they allegedly failed to provide emergency treatment to a 29‑year‑old hit‑and‑run victim, sparking public outcry.

In a statement issued by the hospital on Monday, February 23, 2026, it read, “The Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital wishes to announce that two medical doctors and two nurses have been interdicted following their alleged failure to provide emergency medical care to a hit-and-run victim.

In line with established administrative procedures, a committee has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the unfortunate death of the victim.

Pending the outcome of the committee’s work, the Board and Management call on all persons connected to the matter to cooperate fully with the committee to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital remains committed to transparency, accountability and the delivery of quality healthcare services. Further information will be communicated upon completion of the investigation”.

Actress Patricia Osei Boateng busted in connection with robbery and murder

Actress Patricia Osei Boateng has been arrested and detained in connection with the robbery and murder.

Reports suggest Patricia Osei Boateng was arrested by the Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, established by the IGP.

Actress Patricia Osei Boateng has been arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of Mr Andrews Amankwah, father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi, along with other related criminal activities.

The development follows an earlier report, which suggests that the Ghana Police Service has declared actress Patricia Osei Boateng wanted over an alleged role in multiple robberies.

According to reports, Patricia Osei Boateng is alleged to be the wife of suspected armed robber Duku.

The information gathered also suggests that Patricia Osei Boateng is wanted over her purported involvement in a string of robberies.

Patricia Osei Boateng’s husband, a suspected armed robber identified as Duku, died during a gun battle with police following an operation reportedly linked to the killing of Mr Amankwa, said to be the father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi.

In a post shared by the State News wrote, “The Ghana Police Service has reportedly launched a manhunt for actress Patricia Osei Boateng, alleged wife of suspected armed robber Duku, over her purported involvement in a string of robberies.

Duku was shot dead during a gun battle with police following an operation reportedly linked to the killing of Mr Amankwa, said to be the father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi of the National Democratic Congress.

Police say investigations are ongoing, with official confirmation still pending”.

In related news, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the carjacking and murder of Andrews Amankwa, the father-in-law of GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi.

IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno confirmed the arrest of four suspects during a press briefing on Monday, February 23, 2026.

According to the IGP, when the case was reported, he established a special team comprising the Ashanti Regional Commander, the Regional Intelligence Team, the Anti-Robbery Unit, and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the CID Headquarters to commence investigations immediately.

He revealed that on February 18, 2026, the first suspect, Akwesi Menu, was found in possession of the deceased’s Samsung phone. Two additional suspects: Kwadwo Amponsah, alias “Kamakaze,” and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah, alias “Tola,” were also arrested on February 21 and 22, 2026.

The IGP further disclosed that the alleged gang leader, Eric Antwi Doku, sustained gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital.

The IGP, during a press briefing on Monday, stated, “I’m happy to announce that we have arrested four suspects, including three members of the gang that was responsible for the attack”.

“As we always do when such cases are reported, I immediately constituted a team… to commence investigations,” he stated.

“Upon following several leads during the course of our investigation, we had our first breakthrough on February 18 2026,” Tetteh Yohuno noted.

“Suspect Eric Acheampong Adu, who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, has passed on. Our investigation further established that this criminal syndicate, led by the deceased suspect, specialised in the snatching of pickup and Land Cruiser vehicles,” the IGP said.

“We will leave no stone unturned. By every legal means possible, we will continue to come after you. We will pursue you, arrest you, and bring you to justice. That is a promise,” he boldly stated.

“Criminals out there, take note of this: you can run, but you cannot hide,” he added.

ECG given 48 hours ultimatum to resolve consumers over-biling concerns

0

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has given Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) a 48-hour ultimatum to resolve consumer concerns about the rapid depletion of prepaid electricity units.

The letter detailed that the meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the PURC GNAT Office in Accra.

The Commission stressed that the agenda will include a “comprehensive technical briefing on the implementation of the revised tariff within the prepaid vending and metering architecture”.

During the emergency meeting, the ECG is expected to present reports on vending data trends, meter update protocols, the scale and nature of consumer complaints, and current resolution measures.

Also, the Commission has demanded a briefing on “immediate technical and communication interventions, where required, to safeguard consumer confidence and regulatory compliance.”

Reports suggest the PURC Executive Secretary, Dr Shafic Suleman, directed ECG’s Managing Director and senior technical, commercial, ICT, and customer service officials to attend the emergency meeting on Thursday, February 26, to explain the issue.

The directive follows a surge in public outcry from consumers across the country who have taken to social media to lament the current pace at which prepaid electricity credits are running.

Foreign Affairs Ministry runs from DVLA overseas licence brouhaha

0

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has distanced itself from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) CEO’s claims about renewing driving licences for Ghanaians living abroad.

Julius Neequaye Kotey, the DVLA CEO, speaking at the commissioning of a new DVLA office at Bantama in Kumasi, made this announcement.

According to him, some staff will soon be travelling abroad to provide relevant drivers and vehicle licensing services to persons who would not necessarily need to return home to register and renew their licenses.

The DVLA CEO stated, “Some of you, the DVLA staff, you are travelling overseas to go and provide services in five countries outside. We have gotten approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for them to travel and do this for Ghanaians staying abroad. They don’t need to come down to renew their one-year license, which has expired. We will provide all licensing services for them”.

“Transfer is not punishment. It is just to tell you that your services are needed somewhere else, and we need you to be there for the efficiency and effective running of that office. Surely, more transfers will be coming on board. Stay by your table. When you get it, you look at the date, you pack your things, and you go,” he said.

However, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has neither issued directives to Ghana’s diplomatic missions nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement.

In a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, the Ministry stated, “ACCRA, 26th  FEBRUARY, 2026 – The attention of the Ministry of Foreign A ffairs has been drawn to a viral news headline claiming that the Ministry has granted approval for staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel to countries including United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, The Netherlands and Germany to register and renew driving licenses of Ghanaian drivers in the diaspora.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state categorically that it has neither issued a directive to our diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement.

The Ministry is not aware of any new government policy to that effect.

In addition, there is no record available at the Ministry pointing to this purported new policy direction.

For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention, and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in public service delivery”.

Meanwhile, the DVLA CEO’s plans have been met with intense social media criticism, with many critics arguing that Ghanaians living abroad do not drive or require Ghanaian driver’s licences once outside the country.

According to them, the DVLA’s plans would amount to a waste of taxpayers’ money, adding that the resources could be better directed toward improving services at local DVLA offices.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, leading the charge, stated, “Abort! Abort! Abort!

This just smells like an upcoming scandal. When it looks like a scandal, sounds like a scandal, it will be a scandal.1 visa 1 license!”.

Manasseh Azure Awuni, in a Facebook post, also wrote, “How? I mean, how could anyone come up with this?”

In another post on X, he added, “This must be a joke”.

Kwaku Azar also, in a post, stated, “DVLA, thanks, but instead of licenses, just send us ‘wrɛwrɛ’ soup. Da Yie!”.

Watch ongoing renovation works at Agradaa’s church in preparation for her release

0

A video has surfaced of Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa’s Heaven Way Champions International Ministry, undergoing renovation in preparation for her release.

In the viral video shared on X, Agradaa’s church was being repainted and renovated ahead of her expected release.

Reports suggest that the preparations are said to be part of plans to give her a grand welcome upon her return.

Meanwhile, Richard Asare Baffour Esq, the lawyer for evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, has detailed that the earliest her client could be released is 3rd March, 2026.

Agradaa’s lawyer in a news card shared by GHOne TV stated, “The earliest possible release date for Agradaa is 3rd March this year”.

Earlier, Agradaa’s lawyer had said her client would be out in about five months.

According to Agradaa’s lawyer, the reduction of her jail sentence from 15 years to 12 months is good news.

The lawyer cited that Agradaa has already spent several months in prison, which brings her closer to release.

Speaking to the media after the court’s decision, the lawyer stated, “Our prayer was for the conviction to be set aside. But in the wisdom of the court, the conviction has been upheld and the sentence reduced from 15 years to one year. I think this is good news.”

“She has spent about seven months already. I’m sure she will be out very soon,” he added. “That means maybe about five months more to go.”

He added, “Let’s keep our calm. There is a calculation to all this”.

“From day one, we said the 15-year sentence was excessive,” he said. “Today, the court has spoken. The law is the law.”

Petrol to rise by 3.59%, diesel 1.52% in the first week of March

0

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) have announced that Ghanaians must brace themselves as the first pricing window of March 2026 will see an increase in petroleum prices.

According to COPEC projections, petrol is set to rise by 3.59%, with diesel rising by 1.52%.

COPEC, in a statement, stated, “Petroleum prices beginning the 1st window of March 2026, are expected to see some marginal increments across the pumps. Petrol is expected to go up marginally by 3.59%, Diesel by 1.52% whiles LPG could witness a decline of -1.57% across various pumps respectively.”

“Global Crude price has seen a marginal increase of about 1.25%, that is an increase from $70.90/barrel to $71.79/barrel.”

COPEC stressed that the cedi, however, “witnessed a marginal appreciation against the Dollar to close trading from an average interbank rate of $1:GHS11.0990 at the start of the current window to $1:GHS11.0723 (0.24%) as of the close of window.”

For petrol, COPEC justified that “With the international FOB price of petrol increasing from $652.64/MT to $685.27/MT (5.03%) and a currency appreciation of about 0.24%, the retail price of petrol works up to an increment of 3.59%.”

“the retail price of Petrol is expected to be selling between GHS11.8/L and GHS13/L, within a ±5% range of COPEC’s projection.”

“In the same manner, with the International FOB price of diesel increasing from $695.94/MT to $711.86MT (2.29%) and the cedi’s appreciation averages of 0.24%, the projected retail pump price for diesel in the next window shall work up to an increment of 1.52%.”

“Diesel is thus expected to increase marginally with retail price selling between GHS12.73/L and GHS14.0/L within a ±5% range of COPEC’s projection.”

“With the international FOB price of LPG decreasing from $508.77MT to $503.59/MT (-1.5%) and the cedi’s appreciation of about 0.24%, the projected retail price of LPG is expected to decline marginally by -1.57%. Within ±5% error, LPG is expected to be selling between GHS11.48/kg and GHS12.69/kg.”

“In conclusion, it is the expectation of COPEC that the various Oil Marketing Companies would maintain prices across the pumps in order not to overburden the consumer with these expected increments in the coming window”. COPEC added.

“It is our birthright to consume dog and cat meat” – Dr Apaak justifies

0

Dr Clement Abas Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education and the Global President of the Dog Meat Eaters Association (DOGMEA), has justified the consumption of dog and cat meat.

Dr Apaak stressed that the consumption of dog and cat meat is their birthright and urged members to be proud of their heritage and culture.

According to Dr Apaak, they consume dog and cat meat because it is part of our culture, heritage and tradition.

Dr Apaak made these remarks while dismissing calls by the Institute of Community Sustainability to ban the consumption of these animals.

In a post on X Dr Apaak wrote, “As the Global President of the Dog Meat Eaters Association [DOGMEA], I urge all members to treat the ridiculous call by the Institute of Community Sustainability with the contempt it deserves.

What do they mean by health concerns? Have we, the dog and cat meat consumers, complained about health issues to them? In any case, don’t people who don’t eat dog and cat meat have health issues?

Ethical concerns? Whose ethics and by whose standards? We, the consumers of dog and cat meat, are guided by the ethics bequeathed to us by our ancestors.

Our forefathers and fathers passed on the moral principles governing our behaviour, which includes our consumption of dog and cat meat, to us.

We consume dog and cat meat because that is part of our culture, our heritage and our tradition. Consuming dog and cat meat is part of our identity”.

He added, “Let the uninitiated be informed that food [dog and cat meat included] and culture are intrinsically linked. Food acts as a primary expression of cultural identity, heritage, and social bonding.

I urge members to boldly and fearlessly consume the special delicacies. We are proud of our heritage, we are proud of our culture. It is our birthright to consume dog and cat meat”.

His remarks follow, Eric Jerry Aidoo, the Executive Director of the Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS), has called for an immediate ban on cat and dog meat consumption in Ghana.

According to the Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS), there are serious public health risks and ethical concerns with the consumption of Dog and Cat meat.

Eric Jerry Aidoo argued that cats and dogs are family companions who deserve protection, not the slaughterhouse.

ICS detailed that consuming cat and dog meat poses a grave threat to human health, noting that unregulated slaughter and handling can transmit diseases such as rabies, trichinellosis, and cholera.

They further called on the Ministry of Health to implement strict measures to totally ban slaughter for human consumption, and also the criminalisation of the trade and sale of cat and dog meat.

Eric Jerry Aidoo is quoted to have said, “They are family companions, providing emotional support to children and the elderly, and serve as security guides, protecting homes and businesses”.

“It is time for Ghana to align with global health standards and ethical practices. Cats and dogs are our family; they deserve protection, not the slaughterhouse,” Aidoo stated.

A resident in Morocco, who provided an update in an interview with Kofi TV, stressed that no official cause of death has been established.

The resident speaking in an interview with Kofi TV stated, “He lives with his girlfriend, and the two of them died in the room, but it appears they may have died about three days before they were discovered.

So, they called the landlord to break the door, and after forcing entry, they realised both of them were dead”.

“All the people in the apartment ran away due to documentation issues, fearing the police would come and interrogate them.

“The police later came for their bodies and are now looking for his family,” he said.

38 fishermen rescued following suspected pirate attack at Senya Breku

0

Thirty-eight (38) fishermen have been successfully rescued following a report of a suspected pirate attack.

Earlier reports suggest that some fishermen have been attacked at sea and left stranded after armed hijackers allegedly opened fire and made away with outboard motors.

According to the report, the incident occurred at  Senya Breku in the Central Region.

Reports detailed that the victims set out to fish in the early hours of Thursday, February 26, and while reportedly returning to shore, they were attacked.

The fishermen were attacked by the assailants, who were said to be operating a black boat, and they launched the attack.

Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, speaking to the media, confirmed the incident.

According to that MP, the attackers targeted fishermen operating seven canoes.

“There was an armed attack at sea. Our fishermen usually go out at night and return early in the morning. Those who went toward the Nyanyano side were reportedly attacked.

“They were robbed of their outboard motors and generator sets by a black boat. I cannot disclose the nationality of the attackers. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.

“The military, the IGP has also dispatched a military marine police unit to help. So the navy is helping, and the marine police are also helping us,” she added.

Following the news of the attack, reports by citinews reveal thirty-eight (38) fishermen have since been successfully rescued.

However, JOYNEWS are also reporting only 22 fishermen on board 2 out of the 7 fishing vessels attacked last night rescued back on shore.

Videos shared on social media by JOYNEWS show the landing site showing scenes of relief and celebration as the rescued men arrived.

In the viral video, family members, friends, and community members cheered and rushed to welcome them.

A white powder was also poured over the fishermen in a traditional show of joy and thanksgiving.

“The victims, who were in two locally manufactured canoes, were safely brought to shore by a joint rescue team comprising the Marine Police and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The operation was launched after reports emerged that several fishermen had been left stranded at sea following the attack”, citinews report stated.

Also, the Ghana Armed Forces, in a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, has announced they have launched a search operation at dawn off the coast of Senya Breku.

The operation is aimed at rescuing any remaining victims.

The Ghana Armed Forces urged the public to remain calm and assured that further details would be shared as they become available.

Additionally, the Criminal Investigations Department has also begun recording statements from the rescued fishermen.

No queues, no deadlines – Sam George on planned nationwide SIM registration exercise

0

Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Innovations, and Digital Technologies, has announced that the government has begun processes for a nationwide SIM card registration exercise.

According to Sam George, the upcoming SIM registration will be well structured, convenient, with no long queues and disruptions.

He highlighted that the SIM card registration exercise will strengthen data integrity and national security within the telecommunications sector.

Speaking during a keynote address at the 2026 Data Protection Commission Conference, Sam George stated, “The failure in the last SIM card registration has left us with a difficult but necessary decision. After extensive cabinet deliberation, we are announcing the beginning of the process for a new SIM card registration exercise across the whole country”.

“This exercise will be the first in our history to have live verification against the NIA’s database and provide biometric verification for every registration. Let me state this up front”.

The upcoming SIM card registration exercise will prioritize customer’s comfort. We are putting in place measures, working with the Chamber of Telecoms, to avoid long queues, including self-service portals and a seamless process for completing the registration,” he said.

He further disclosed that the exercise will not be constrained by any deadlines adding  that all data collected will be fully protected.

Sam George added, “You won’t have the queues. You won’t have the deadlines that were unreachable in the past experience. We are going to make sure that the citizen is placed at the front of this registration.

“The regulator, the National Communications Authority, is engaging stakeholders on the rollout. The Data Protection Commission must be central to ensuring that even as biometric data is collected and processed, it is done with the principal consideration of protecting the customer. Trust must be elevated above all other considerations,” the minister remarked.

Meanwhile, Policy think tank IMANI Africa has filed a Right to Information (RTI) demanding full disclosure of the Government’s planned nationwide SIM registration exercise scheduled for early 2026.

IMANI Africa, in their RTI request, is seeking full clarity on the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations’ proposed nationwide SIM registration exercise.

The request was submitted on Monday, December 8, 2025, to the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

IMANI, in their RTI request, is seeking details on the legal framework, technical design, procurement processes, and data protection safeguards underpinning the initiative

They further revealed their request was formally received by the Minister’s secretary.

The RTI request follows Bright Simons, IMANI Africa’s Honorary Vice President, who, in December 2025, was chasing the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, for more details concerning the SIM registration exercise.

The IMANI Africa Honorary Vice President, in his initial post, quizzed Sam George on three things regarding the fresh Nationwide SIM registration exercise to be rolled out by the first quarter of 2026.

He questioned, “Is this re-registration thing going to involve: Another sole-sourced contract? Citizens leaving precious work aside to join long, snaking queues? Another slew of errors, repeats, recalls, etc?

According to Bright Simons, Ghana has had multiple mass SIM card registrations that mysteriously never deliver a functional database, adding that this time around, they will protect Ghanaian time and resources.

He revealed he got a message that Sam George has authorised that the re-registration be given to Transactly.

In an X post on December 5, 2025, he wrote, “Ghana has had multiple mass SIM card registrations that mysteriously never deliver a functional database. Why? Because often the whole process is rushed, poorly planned, and poorly defined. You yourself agree wholeheartedly with this, correct?

Our goal this time around is to ROBUSTLY PREVENT YOU FROM WASTING THE PEOPLE’S TIME AND RESOURCES with another badly planned, poorly defined, and rushed mess.

Last time we looked closely to try and find out why these SIM card re-registration processes seem to lead to a mess (a mess you don’t deny), we found that sole-sourced procurement was a factor. A contractor without experience was inserted into the process, leading to a system that you now claim is a mess, hence the need to redo it.

This time, we intend to PREVENT the mess, or any excuse for a mess, before it even happens.

Additionally,  Sam Nartey George has dared Bright Simons to provide evidence of his claimed sole-sourced contract for SIM registration.

Sam George boldly declared he is ready to resign as Communication Minister once Mr Simons provides evidence of a sole-sourced contract for SIM registration.

645,393 births registered in 2025 – Births and Deaths Registry

0

The Registrar of Births and Deaths, Samuel Adom Botchway, has announced that 645,393 births were registered in Ghana in the year 2025.

According to the Registrar of Births and Deaths, of the 645,393 births, 357,000 were male, and 288,393 female births were registered.

The information was shared in a GHOne news post on X, which stated, “Last year, 357,000 male and 288,393 female births were registered”.

The Registrar of Births and Deaths’ information clearly shows that in 2025, 68,607 more males birth was registered than female births.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the information stated, “That’s not good at all…at least a million a year is okay…our birth rate is declining, too bad”.

“The next generation will not see a shortage of men. There will be no need for side chicks. Obiaa benya bi. Can I get an amen?”, a netizen added.

“I’m happy there are more males than females so they would stop making that nonsense statement that “one man is to 7 women”, another X user added.

In related news, Samuel Adom Botchway has said the registry projected 143,484 Ghanaian deaths in 2025, but only 55,219 deaths were registered.

According to Samuel Adom Botchway, of the 55,219 deaths, they registered 29,912 were males, and 25,307 were females.

In a news flyer shared by GHOne TV on Facebook, “We[Births and Deaths Registry] projected 143,484 deaths in 2025. But only 55,219 deaths were registered; 29,912 males and 25,307 females”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the flyer shared by GHOne TV stated, “How many of your staff did you project?”.

“Even death has reduced under JM. JM for 2089”, a netizen added.

“He meant to say they projected to register a certain number of deaths…… and not actual deaths, even though both statements are interlinked”, a Facebook user added.

Another Ghanaian argued, “Two keywords should be looked at carefully for appropriate inferences to be made of what he said, “PROJECTED” and “REGISTERED.”

The inference I make of what he said is the fact that MANY GHANAIANS DO NOT REGISTER THE DEATH OF THEIR RELATIVES. The few who go to register do so because the death certificate is mostly needed as a prerequisite to access something that might have been left behind by the deceased”.

A netizen added, “The Media will most of the time want to catch attention, so they’ll frame the headline in a way they want. The purpose is not to provide information ooo. The purpose is to go viral”.

One more Facebook user claimed, “English is a problem in this country

The man is saying about a hundred thousand plus people died in the country, but only fifty-five thousand were registered. Meaning people do not register death cases with them”.

One last Ghanaian who wrote also added, “Many are ignorant on this issue and maybe a little enlightenment will do. Projections are a fundamental part of public health planning and national development. Mortality is an inevitable demographic event that occurs every year, and estimating expected deaths based on historical data trends, population structure, and other relevant factors is standard epidemiological practice”.

His comment further added, “These projections are not predictions of specific individuals, but statistical estimates used for planning purposes. They help inform decisions such as whether mortuary facilities need expansion, how healthcare resources should be allocated, and how operational costs may change over time. Governments and institutions rely on such data to ensure systems are adequately prepared.

Ignoring projections does not prevent deaths from occurring; it only weakens our ability to plan responsibly. Biostatistical data may seem abstract, but they are crucial for evidence-based decision-making and national preparedness”.

“I agreed with it” – Duncan-Williams backs govt’s prophecy review policy

0

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has backed the directive by Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, to review prophecy.

According to Duncan-Williams, the directive aligns with biblical teaching and is a responsible way to protect believers from misleading or fear-inducing messages.

Duncan-Williams further emphasised that all prophecy is conditional and should be examined carefully, especially that with effects for national life.

The man of God further encourages religious leaders to educate their congregations, foster discernment, adding that prophetic ministry must remain rooted in sound biblical principles.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Point of View on Wednesday, February 25, Archbishop Duncan-Williams explained, “I agreed with it. It was a good thing because the Bible says let two prophesy and let the others judge. It means that we have the right to judge prophecy. We have the right to do due diligence about prophecy.

“All prophecy is conditional, even the coming of the Lord. We have to pray, Maranatha, for him to come. Except that God, being who he is, has the right to cut the times short lest even the elect be deceived.

“That aside, every prophecy must be subjected to due diligence and also understand that God operates in twos. Once we have been told, twice we have heard that all power belongs to God. Then at the mouth of two and three witnesses, every word is established,” he said.

It will be recalled that Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, issued a directive to prophets to submit their prophecy review.

Later,  Elvis Afriyie Ankrah justified the government’s decision to receive and review prophecies about the nation.

The presidential envoy emphasised that about 70–80% of prophecies have no substance, but the 20 per cent deserved some probe.

Speaking to JoyNews, Afriyie Ankrah detailed, “By and large, 70–80% is of no substance. Then you look at the rest of the 20% and you sift through, and maybe 2–3–5% may deserve some further probe. It’s not a full-time job or an office set up solely to receive prophecies; that’s not how it works.”

“If you say a Ghana Air Force plane is going to crash, whichever way, it’s a security matter. Those specific ones, we are saying, don’t put it out there in a raw form that will create problems. We’ve created a WhatsApp platform and an email address. Send it to us, and then we will review,” he said.

He further added, “Testing means there is room for review, to assess and evaluate, because some will definitely be chaff. There’s a lot that is completely bogus and will be discarded. But there may be a few that have some substance.”

Also, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah told Ghanaian Prophets that their prophecies about death are enough.

According to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, his office was not set only for receiving prophecies.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah asserted that if the prophet receives prophecy about Ghana becoming like Malaysia, Singapore or South Korea, then come see me.

The Presidential Envoy on Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations is quoted by GH ONE TV to have said, “Enough of your death prophecies, my office isn’t for receiving prophecies”.

“I’m praying for the day our prophets and seers will have a vision of a Ghana that is transformed and prosperous. If you have any prophecy about Ghana becoming like Malaysia, Singapore or South Korea, then come see me”.

“Abort! Abort! Abort!” – DVLA’s CEO faces criticisms over plans to send staff abroad to offer license services

0

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, is facing stiff social media criticism following his announcement about plans to send staff to five countries to offer license services for Ghanaians abroad.

The DVLA CEO’s plans have been met with intense social media criticism, with many critics arguing that Ghanaians living abroad do not drive or require Ghanaian driver’s licences once outside the country.

Da Yie!”.

Other Ghanains under the JOYNEWS post stated, “Please, what is the meaning of digitalization?

So a whole DVLA has no system where Drivers license can be renewed or acquired?

Herh Ghana is a finished country

Or they have started the Create, loot and share agenda”.

A netizen added, “Anyone who stays in any of these countries for more than 6months has to automatically apply for a local license. After those 6 months (sometimes specified as 185 days). The foreign (non-EU) license is no longer valid for driving in the EU. You must then hold a EU driving license to continue driving legally. So any renewals of the Ghanaian license are pointless for anyone abroad”.

“What is this unnecessary cost for the taxpayer. Who accesses initiatives of government appointees in sectors where they manage? Is it a force to come out with some kind of initiative or what? He has been overzealous with some fantasies since his appointment”, one more Ghanaian added.

Meanwhile, the DVLA, in a statement, has said media headlines circulating on its extended services abroad were misleading.

The DVLA explained that under their arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassy staff will be trained to verify applicants’ documents and forward them to the DVLA in Ghana for processing.

The DVLA clarified that, “For clarity, the DVLA, through an arrangement with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has agreed to collaborate with Ghana’s Embassies across the globe to provide selected services, including International Driver’s Permit and Driver’s Licence Renewal to qualified Ghanaian citizens domiciled in other countries. The pilot phase will be undertaken in the United States of America, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the High Commission of the United Kingdom.

As part of the implementation plan, the DVLA will provide training to Embassy staff to do verification of documents and forward them to DVLA for processing. Once the processing is done, the Authority would then return the processed documents to the various Embassies for pick-up by the applicants.

This operation does not in any way mean that the DVLA would post its domestic staff to work at Embassies in the aforementioned countries, as the news headlines sought to portray”.

“This is needless” – Manasseh fires DVLA over Embassy training trips for Diaspora Licenses

0

Manasseh Azure Awuni, an investigative journalist, has fired shots at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) after they clarified an earlier statement by the CEO.

According to the DVLA, in a statement, media headlines circulating on its extended services abroad were misleading.

The DVLA explained that under their arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassy staff will be trained to verify applicants’ documents and forward them to the DVLA in Ghana for processing.

The DVLA, in a statement, clarified, “It has come to the attention of the Management of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) misleading news headlines over the extended services of DVLA to selected foreign countries.

For clarity, the DVLA, through an arrangement with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has agreed to collaborate with Ghana’s Embassies across the globe to provide selected services, including International Driver’s Permit and Driver’s Licence Renewal to qualified Ghanaian citizens domiciled in other countries. The pilot phase will be undertaken in the United States of America, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the High Commission of the United Kingdom”.

It further added, “As part of the implementation plan, the DVLA will provide training to Embassy staff to do verification of documents and forward the same to DVLA for processing. Once the processing is done, the Authority would then return the processed documents to the various Embassies for pick-up by the applicants.

This operation does not in any way mean that the DVLA would post its domestic staff to work at Embassies in the aforementioned countries, as the news headlines sought to portray.

We wish to indicate that the Management of DVLA are committed to serving the interests of Ghanaians and has consistently pursued an agenda to place the services of the Authority closer to the people to minimise defaults as well as promote compliance”.

However, Manasseh Azure Awuni, in a post in reaction to the DVLA clarification describe the move as needless.

According to the Investigative Journalist, the DVLA must just Ghanaians who apply for services back home get them without stress.

He argued that a Ghanaian driver’s licence isn’t a priority for a person living in Canada or the U.S.

In his post, Manasseh stated, “Meaning DVLA staff will travel to the various embassies to train them. This is needless. Just ensure that those who apply for services back home get them without stress. If someone is living in Canada or the U.S., a Ghanaian driver’s licence isn’t a priority for them”.

Also, the DVLA CEO’s plans have been met with intense social media criticism, with many critics arguing that Ghanaians living abroad do not drive or require Ghanaian driver’s licences once outside the country.

According to them, the DVLA’s plans would amount to a waste of taxpayers’ money, adding that the resources could be better directed toward improving services at local DVLA offices.

“Lumba’s spirit” poses old woman at family meeting; dethrones Abusuapanin Tupac

Following the burial of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, there are still ongoing controversies surrounding the post-burial ceremony and where he was buried.

In a latest development, a video has surfaced from a family meeting where a woman appears possessed by the spirit of the late Daddy Lumba, addressing a plot to remove the family head Abusuapanin Tupac over unresolved burial disputes.

In related news, an aunt of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has said the family is distressed over their inability to access his body.

Some of you are not family members, but we’ve seen the love you’ve been showing us, and we appreciate you all,” she said.

“We will try as much as we can, no matter what, to find Daddy Lumba’s body,” she added.

Also, a family member, speaking on behalf of the entire Ekuona family of Parkoso, has blown an alarm on Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu’s refusal to render accountability after the funeral ceremony.

They demanded that Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu present a successor to the late Daddy Lumba and also demanded that he disclose the burial site of the late musician.

The family have accused Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu of not burying Daddy Lumba in Parkoso, warning that if he fails to disclose the burial site, they will have no choice but to remove him from his position as family head.

Police declare actress Patricia Osei Boateng WANTED over alleged role in multiple robberies

Reports suggest that the Ghana Police Service has declared actress Patricia Osei Boateng wanted over an alleged role in multiple robberies.

In a post shared by Ghana Chronicles on X stated, “BREAKING: The Ghana Police Service has declared Patricia Osei Boateng, wife of suspected armed robbery leader Duku, wanted for her alleged role in multiple robberies.

Police say Duku was shot dead during a gunfight following a robbery linked to the killing of Mr Amankwa, father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi”.

Also, the State News in a post also wrote, “The Ghana Police Service has reportedly launched a manhunt for actress Patricia Osei Boateng, alleged wife of suspected armed robber Duku, over her purported involvement in a string of robberies.

Council of State rep detained by GoldBod over gold transaction breaches

0

Reports suggest the Western North Regional representative on the Council of State, Dr Maxwell Nana Yaw Boakye, a well-known “gold aggregator”, has been detained on the orders of GOLDBOD’s Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

According to reports, Dr Maxwell Nana Yaw Boakye, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Max Palasco Group of Companies, has been held over gold-related transactions.

In a post shared by the Chronicles on X, it stated, “The Herald has reported a dramatic standoff at the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), which reportedly culminated in the detention of the Western Regional representative on the Council of State, Dr Maxwell Nana Yaw Boakye, a known ‘gold aggregator’.

Dr Boakye, 33, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Max Palasco Group of Companies, is said to have been detained on the orders of GOLDBOD’s Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, over gold-related transactions that allegedly went awry.

Reports suggest that he had been advanced a significant amount of cash for gold aggregation, but allegedly under-declared the quantity of gold supplied relative to the funds received”.

The post further added, “The exact sum involved remains unclear. However, sources familiar with the transaction have indicated that the amount in question runs into a substantial figure.

According to information available to this paper, Dr Boakye, also known as Nana Yaw Palasco Boakye, was reportedly confined to the board’s offices amid suspicions that he may have diverted gold and shipped it out of the country in violation of established regulatory procedures.

Several prominent individuals, including members of the Council of State, are spending a considerable part of the day appealing to Mr Gyamfi to secure Dr Boakye’s release.

The development comes just days after GOLDBOD, on 10 February 2026, issued a public notice stating that six companies, including Max-Palasco Limited, were undergoing assessment for “operational compliance” under Section 43 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140)”.

Additionally, the Chronicles post stated, “The other companies named were S-Seven Hills Enterprise, Passion Gold Limited, IBF Mineral Resource Limited, Maabisco Multipurpose Enterprise and Gastonesin Enterprise.

Their directors and owners were directed to meet with GOLDBOD’s Compliance Directorate on Thursday, 12 February 2026, at 10 a.m., and were cautioned not to “fail to assist with the exercise”.

The Compliance Directorate described the move as “a routine exercise to ensure financial and operational compliance with applicable enactments by Gold Service Providers”.

Meanwhile, reports are yet to determine whether the Western North Regional representative on the Council of State has been formally charged or released.

In related news, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a gold refining agreement with Gold Coast Refinery.

The landmark partnership was signed on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The GoldBod and Gold Coast Refinery partnership mark a major milestone in Ghana’s step to add value addition within Ghana’s gold sector.

The partnership will reduce Ghana’s reliance on exporting raw gold, which has led to revenue losses.

Under the GoldBod partnership with Gold Coast Refinery, gold sourced from both artisanal and large-scale mining operations will be refined locally.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Sammy Gyamfi, the GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, stated, “This development marks a major milestone in Ghana’s gold trade and will help maximise national benefits from our mineral resources”.

He further highlighted, “The millions of dollars we pay as refinery charges to refineries in Dubai, Switzerland, India, Hong Kong, and other foreign countries will now stay in our banking sector. That money will now stay in our economy.”

“What this agreement also means is that we are creating more direct and indirect jobs, particularly because Gold Coast Refinery has committed to operating 24/7 in line with the government’s 24-hour policy”, he added.

KILLER ECG BILLS: PURC orders ECG over vanishing credits

0

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has ordered the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to an emergency meeting over public complaints about fast-draining prepaid units.

The directive follows a surge in public outcry from consumers across the country who have taken to social media to lament the current pace at which prepaid electricity credits are running.

Meanwhile, Dr Shaffic Suleman, the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has said Ghana is consuming more power beyond official projections.

According to the PURC boss, Ghana’s electricity consumption growth has overtaken the expected annual targets.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, the PURC boss stated, “We are now consuming more power beyond what has been projected. We are looking at an annual projection of 8% per annum, but I can assure you that we are moving. We are moving far faster than that.”

“And it’s because of the stability and availability of power, and then the suppressed demand is now being curtailed, so more consumers are coming on board generally, thanks to the stability of the economy. So we have to be fast with additional capacity.”

The PURC boss further added, “President Mahama and the Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, are working towards adding additional capacity and ensuring that we have enough.”

“Peak load is also experiencing targets or points that we are not familiar with, and obviously, the economy is growing, so we need power.”

“Power is available, so all we need to do now is to think of how best or how fast we can get additional capacity to come in and supplement, especially going towards 2027 to 29.”

“This must be a joke” – Manasseh reacts to DVLA CEO’s plan to send staff to serve Ghanaians in diaspora

0

Manasseh Azure Awuni, an Investigative journalist, has reacted to an announcement made by the DVLA Chief Executive over plans to send staff to serve Ghanaians in the diaspora.

In a news JOYNEWS flyer shared by Manasseh, the DVLA CEO is quoted to have said, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has granted approval for some DVLA staff to travel to the USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands, and Germany to register and renew licenses of Ghanaian drivers in diaspora”.

Manasseh Azure Awuni, in his post, simply stated, “This must be a joke”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the JOY News flyer shared by Manasseh Azure stated, “Imagine travelling 6 hours from LA to NY and paying $500 for a Delta flight just to renew my license – when I could simply do it anytime I travel to Ghana!”

“If I were the President, I would not approve this decision, as it faces significant opposition from Ghanaians. Regardless of its merits, such resistance sends the wrong signal”, another X user added.

A netizen added, “It’s not a bad move. I’m out of GH, and it will be great to have my International Driver’s license renewed without having to travel to GH. It must be done well to return gains to our economy”.

One more Ghanaian added, “lol if they say digitalisation you say buei. If it’s very necessary and that important, why not create an online portal for them to renew? It just seems there may be an agenda behind this, hmm”.

“This guy ankasaa he’s messing up at DVLA oo. There’s a massive amount of dissatisfaction over there, especially among the workers. Even employees who sympathise with the NDC are complaining. He’s costing the party a lot of goodwill”, one more X user added.

“Someone has travelled outside the country. His or her license has expired. That license cannot be used where they are. When they travel back to their own county, nothing stops them from visiting dvla office to renew it themselves. Oh, y’agyimi dodo. @BigDaddyShaky sɛ w’ahu”, a netizen added.

A Ghanaian added, “I doubt that’s accurate. Most people in the diaspora visit Ghana briefly. Additionally, an international driving permit from the UK costs only £5 and is valid for over a year. Therefore, I see no reason to need a Ghanaian permit unless I plan to stay permanently”.

Meanwhile, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the DVLA Chief Executive, speaking at the commissioning of a new DVLA office at Bantama in Kumasi, made this announcement.

“My son is psychologically traumatised” – Father of assaulted Obrachire student speaks

Kobby Akpaka Fiadzigbe, Father of the assaulted Obrachire student, has cried out that his son has been psychologically traumatised following the violent attack he suffered.

According to the father, the family is currently focused on addressing his son’s physical injuries, specifically dental treatment resulting from the assault.

He further disclosed that the family will be seeking professional psychological help, but financial constraints have delayed that step.

Kobby Akpaka Fiadzigbe further added that despite the incident, he has no intention of withdrawing his son from school.

According to him, the attack was carried out by students from a different school and not his son’s institution, which informed his decision to allow his son to return to class once he is healed and ready.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Kobby Akpaka Fiadzigbe stated, “My son is psychologically traumatised. Physically, he has been tortured. I am currently covering the cost of his dental treatment, and when he stabilises, I will look for a psychologist”.

“Education is the lifeblood of everybody. Despite the incident, I cannot truncate his education,” he stated.

“For now, he has to go back to the school because it is not the same school that attacked him. It was a different school,” he explained.

“Seeing a psychologist is another concern. I haven’t made up my mind yet because I am now taking care of his teeth. When he stabilises, then I will look for a psychologist. That also involves money,” he said.

“Such fake stories” – Ukraine replies Kwesi Pratt over claims of supplying terrorists who killed Ghanaian tomato traders

0

Heorhii Tykhyi, the Spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, has debunked claims made by Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist who alleged that the terrorists who killed Ghanaian tomato traders going to buy tomatoes in Burkina Faso were supplied by Ukraine.

According to Heorhii Tykhyi, Ukraine officially refuted these allegations, adding that they did not supply any “terrorists.”

He further stressed that such fake stories are intended to distract attention from today’s historic and landmark visit of Ghana’s Foreign Minister to Ukraine.

In a post on X on February 25, 2026, Heorhii Tykhyi wrote, “We officially refute these allegations. Ukraine did not supply any ‘terrorists.” Such fake stories are intended to distract attention from today’s historic and landmark visit of Ghana’s Foreign Minister to Ukraine. But they won’t succeed”.

Heorhii Tykhyi remarks come on the heels of Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, who has boldly stated that the terrorists who killed Ghanaian traders going to buy tomatoes in Burkina Faso were supplied by Ukraine.

According to Kwesi Pratt, this is not a rumour, stressing that the Ukrainian intelligence itself has admitted that it is involved in the terrorist activities in the Sahel.

He alleged that JNIM terrorists, who killed eight Ghanaian tomato traders on February 16, 2026, in an attack in Titao, Burkina Faso, received supplies from Ukraine.

The Veteran journalist further declared that any country that is subverting the Sahel state is Ghana’s enemy.

Speaking at an event organised by the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) with Kwame Nkrumah, Kwesi Pratt boldly stated, “The terrorists who killed the Ghanaian women going to buy tomatoes were supplied by Ukraine, and this is not a rumour. The Ukrainian intelligence itself has admitted that it is involved in the Terrorist activities in the Sahel”.

“Comrades and friends, any country that is subverting the Sahel state is our enemy, any country that aids fighting the people of Sahel determine to wage a struggle so that they can control their resources, cannot be our ally, cannot be our friends, and that is why I like to call on the Mahama administration to look sharp”, he added.

Some Ghanaian reacting to Kwesi Pratt’s bold remarks stated, “The way you people are forcefully trying to tickle these war zone countries is beyond comprehension! Know your limit oo. They can wipe us out in seconds yoo”.

“Let us grow our tomatoes in peace and mind our own business before our grounds for ponding fufu become a war zone”, a netizen added.

One more netizen added, “If this is true, then it’s really damning. This is because I know Russia’s Wagner is already in the Sahel. So if Ukraine is also there terrorusing people, are they then exporting their war to Africa?”

In an earlier post, Kwesi Pratt stated that news about Ghanaian Tomato traders killed in a terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, immediately raises several questions.

According to Kwesi Pratt, it is time for Ghana to wake.

The Veteran journalist questioned how a tropical country like Ghana, with all its favourable conditions, depends on Burkina Faso for tomatoes.

He further questioned how Ghana has watched on as terrorists wreak havoc in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger when Ghana can also be a target.

In a social media post, Kwesi Pratt wrote, “Some press reports say that seven Ghanaian tomato traders have been killed in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso.

This immediately raises a number of questions.

How come that a tropical country like Ghana, with all the favourable conditions for tomato production, has become dependent on Burkina Faso for the supply of the vegetable?

Why have we sat back and watched terrorists wreak havoc in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, knowing fully well that the more successful they get in the Sahel, the more likely it is that we will become their targets?

Why has Ghana not taken action against the foreign governments which have been providing weapons and intelligence to the terrorists in the Sahel?

Is Ghana not aware of the fact that Western military bases in the sub-region are being used to supply the terrorists?

It is time for Ghana to wake up!”.

“False, misleading” – COCOBOD says as they dismiss GH¢12m donation allegations to Black Stars

0

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has dismissed reports of making a GH¢12 million donation to Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars.

According to COCOBOD, the allegations claiming they have diverted funds meant for cocoa farmers to sponsor the Black Stars are false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

In a public notice, COCOBOD stated, “COCOBOD HAS NOT SPONSORED THE BLACK STARS.

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) wishes to categorically state that the claim suggesting COCOBOD has donated 12 million to the Black Stars while neglecting cocoa farmers is false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

COCOBOD remains fully committed to its core mandate of prioritising the welfare of cocoa farmers, including the prompt payment for cocoa purchases, provision of inputs, extension services, and sustained investment in the sector

At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars.

We urge the public to disregard this misinformation and rely only on official COCOBOD communication channels for accurate and verified information”.

In related news, Jerome Kwaku Sam, the Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has revealed plans to undertake an internal audit of the cocoa regulator’s over 10,000 staff on its payroll.

According to him, the internal audit is to determine the exact number of employees on its payroll and to assess if their roles are assigned to their portfolios.

He detailed that at the end of the internal audit, if it revealed that COCOBOD can function effectively with 5,000, 1,000 or even 500, so be it.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Business News, Jerome Sam stated, “It is not even about the numbers. If we unearth that the over 10,000 staff are each productive and efficient in what they are doing, that is fine”.

“But if, upon a forensic or Human Resource audit, it is revealed that we can operate effectively with 5,000, 1,000 or even 500 people, and that will ensure the sustenance of the industry, then so be it”.

He added, “The HR audit will ascertain whether we indeed have over 10,000 permanent staff, as the Chief Executive was presented with. Beyond that, it will determine whether all these staff members warrant the portfolios they currently occupy. This is important, and it will be done”.

COCOBOD’s planned audit comes on the heels of the CEO implementing economic measures in response to liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector.

The announcement comes on the heels of heightened strain in the cocoa industry, with some key persons questioning COCBOD’s commitments.

Also, Sam Jerome has revealed that COCOBOD salary reductions affecting over 5,000 senior staff will generate GH¢5 million monthly.

According to Sam Jerome, the COCOBOD salary cut will total GH¢40 million over eight months to defray supplier debts

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 17, Sam Jerome detailed, “But the most important thing is that, at least, the leadership under Dr Randy Abbey has taken a step. And the step is that we have reduced the salaries of executive management as well as senior staff by 20% and 10%, respectively.

“From where I sit, tentatively at least some 5 million cedis can be saved on a monthly basis. So, if you have about eight months to go, you are talking about no less than 40 million Ghana cedis, which can be used to defray some of the debt that sits on the books of COCOBOD,” he said.

Sam Jerome details follow, the CEO of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Randy Abbey, in a press statement, has announced that the Executive Management and Senior Staff will take a pay cut following the challenges within the cocoa sector.
