Freddie Blay, a former National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused the Mahama government of using demolition exercises in parts of Accra to target his family.

Mr Blay, in his argument, cited the demolition of the Polo Beach Club, belonging to one of his sons, as well as residential properties belonging to another son at Borteyman.

According to Freddie Blay, the destruction of the properties was politically motivated.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ Elton Brobbey, Freddie Blay stated, “It is amazing that they can do that. They did what Israelis are doing in Gaza. What I am saying is that it is the president (John Mahama) who might have ordered it or who did it”.

“The 48 Regiment Company can’t undertake movement of this nature without a nod from the national chairman of the National Security Council, thus, the president. It is dangerous,” Mr Blay said.

It will be recalled that the Polo Beach Club, located along the La beachfront near the Labadi Beach Hotel, was demolished on Friday, October 2, 2026. The operation involved personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces’ 48 Engineer Regiment and the Ghana Police Service.

However, Stan Dogbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations and leader of the Anti-Flood Taskforce, has broken his silence on the demolition exercise conducted along a section of the Labadi beachfront on Friday, October 2, 2026.

According to Stan Dogbe, the demolition exercise along a section of the Labadi beachfront was not part of the government’s flood mitigation efforts.

Stan Dogbe revealed that the exercise was carried out under the supervision of National Security at the request of Labadi Beach Hotel.

He stressed that the exercise was different from the work of the Anti-Flood Taskforce in areas including the Kpeshie Lagoon, East Legon Boundary Road, Oyarifa and behind Mayfair Estates.

Mr Dogbe explained that Labadi Beach Hotel raised concerns about the structures affecting the safety and tranquillity of the facility, as well as the experience of visitors.

In a Facebook post, Stan Xoese Dogbe wrote, “Let’s not get it twisted.

Friday’s action along a section of the beachfront was not a Flood Mitigation Action by the government task force.

The action has nothing to do with the work of the Taskforce along the Kpeshie lagoon, East Legon Boundary Road, Oyarifa, behind Mayfair Estates, etc, which are efforts towards supporting the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to mitigate any future floods.

To understand Friday’s action, it was carried out under the supervision of the National Security at the request of the Labadi Beach Hotel. These are structures, some permanently built (Polo Beach Club and others) on the beach in front of the hotel, and which, according to the business, is adversely affecting the safety, tranquillity and reputation of the Hotel, diminishing the visitor experience and undermining the orderly management of one of Ghana’s

most important tourism destinations.

While the hotel will be able to explain, in more detail, the necessity for its action to reclaim its beachfront, we must all be concerned about the serious sanitation issues that these unauthorised and unregulated commercial operations cause, in addition to the security risks.

I have seen drone shots and other short videos. Is the Labadi Beach Hotel not right in reclaiming its beachfront (I am not talking about the La Pleasure Beach, please)”.
