Emmanuel Kotin, Executive Director, Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, has alleged that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are planning to sack the former Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong, from the party.

According to Emmanuel Kotin, he has received intel that the NPP is trying to sack Kennedy Agyapong from the party.

Emmanuel Kotin argued that the NPP have re-elected Abronye, who sits on TV and insults party leadership for similar sins Ken Agyapong is being accused of.

He further alleged that persons around Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are his real enemies.

Speaking on TV3 New Day, Emmanuel Kotin stated, “Let’s look at the election of Abronye. Abronye will sit on TV and insult party leadership, the same sins Ken Agyapong has been accused of.  I have intel that the NPP is trying to sack Kennedy Agyapong from the party.

Yet they go ahead and elect Abronye because he is a loyalist. What are we really building? Do you take a losing team or do you retain a winning team?”

He further added, “We need a strong opposition party. Let the unity processes be in deeds and not in words. After presidential primaries, look at the fall: where is the unity everybody is glamourising around Dr Bawumia to catch his face and favour, but they are the real enemies of Dr Bawumia.

Those around Dr Bawumia are his real enemies. You know the demonstration you reference; I have a course to say that they don’t want Bawumia to be president because there was no need to embark on that demonstration. What was really the need for that demonstration? The things they were accusing this government of didn’t happen in the last eight years, even worse.

People wanted to go on demonstration; you went to court to place injunctions, the precinct of the Jubilee House was a security zone, but you were able to walk freely and do an incident free deomonstration yet you say this democracy is under attack”.

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council, at a meeting held yesterday, Thursday, June 25, have tasked the NPP Disciplinary Committee to sit on a petition to remove Ken Agyapong from the party.

According to the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, the party has received petitions from some members and Members of Parliament calling for the dismissal of Hon. Ken Agyapong from the party.

Nana Boakye revealed that the petitions have been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for review, and the party expects to receive a report on the matter within the next two weeks.

He disclosed that the decision was taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council at a meeting held yesterday, Thursday, June 25.

He added that the NPP’s highest decision-making organs had unanimously agreed to refer all petitions against Ken Agyapong to the disciplinary committee for consideration.

Should the petitions hold weight, Kennedy Agyapong will be invited to appear before it, ensuring he is given a fair hearing before the final report is compiled and submitted to leadership.
