Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a social activist and private legal practitioner, has called for the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to step aside following the OSP arrest and detention of private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu.
Vormawor claimed Kissi Agyebeng is tired as Special Prosecutor, and it is only fair that he steps aside.
According to Barker-Vormawor, the OSP’s arrest of Martin Kpeby is a new low.
In a social media post on X, the social activist stated, “Kissi is tired. I think it’s only fair he steps aside.
This is a new low!” he added.
However, Martin Kpebu was released from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
According to reports, Lawyer Kpebu spent nearly five hours in the custody of the OSP.
Speaking to TV3 shortly after his release, Lawyer Kpebu stated, “I know I have not done anything wrong, so I knew I would be released”.
He revealed that his arrest stemmed from a verbal confrontation with a military officer stationed at the OSP.
Mr Kpebu recounted, “Then the next thing, the soldier said I am stupid, so I also turned and said he is also stupid, and so we exchanged words”.
“I know I have not done anything wrong, so I knew I would be released,” he stated.
“Then a colleague of his, another soldier, shouted that next time I do that, I will see. In Ghanaian English, ‘you will see’ means he will cause me some harm, or there will be consequences, even if not physical.
So I turned and gave the same answer; he had no right. I’m not a suspect, and even if I was, could he do that? So I said he had no right”.
“Then the next thing I knew, he said I’m stupid. That’s what the soldier said. So I turned back and told him he is also stupid. We exchanged a few words, and then one of my lawyers pulled me so we could go in,” he added, stating he would never attack any officer who had done nothing to him.
He added that his arrest confirms that Kissi Agyebeng is incompetent.
“I will petition for his removal. I have 15 allegations against him,” he once again revealed.
“What they have actually done is that this is a suicide mission that Kissi Agyebeng’s OSP has embarked on. He can pretend he has nothing to do with it, but he is the head,” Kpebu stated.
Meanwhile, the OSP has clarified issues surrounding the incident involving Martin Kpebu.
Sammy Darko, the Director of Strategy, Communication, and Research at the OSP, in a Facebook post stated, “Upon arriving, Mr Kpebu parked his vehicle and stepped outside the gate to conduct an interview. He always does this, brings in media men to speak to them before entering and after exiting. Security personnel cautioned him to move away from the entrance, so he moved to the fried yam seller’s spot and continued speaking to the media. Afterwards, he entered the compound alone. The guards reminded him that photography and videography are not permitted around the premises”.
“He reacted angrily to the reminder and insulted the guards. They issued a formal warning about his conduct, but he insisted he could act as he pleased and threatened to report them. He told them they are nobodies, even their boss, the head of the agency, is a nobody and will be removed soon.
His continued insults and obstructive behaviour led to his arrest for the offence of obstruction of officers in the performance of their duties. He was informed of his arrest on suspicion of obstruction, in accordance with the law. The arrest was executed without force, and there is no internal record of any assault or mistreatment”.
