Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, has fired shots at one of his constituents after the resident appealed to him to prioritise drainage infrastructure over entertainment activities.

In a viral video, a resident of Gomoa Pomadze appealed to the MP to provide support for victims and pay greater attention to drainage infrastructure.

He stated, “We are pleading with A-Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, to come to our aid and help us address this situation. He should do something for us. We believe it’s time to put entertainment aside and focus on improving the drainage infrastructure”.

However, A-Plus, reacting to the video, called the flood victim a “stupid man” and a “fool” after the resident appealed to him.

A-Plus questioned if he should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain, adding that he could express his concerns respectfully without insulting him.

In a Facebook post on the same day, A-Plus stated, “Stupid man!! You could make your statement without being stupid! You could seek help without being a fool! It is raining, so I should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain or what?”.

“A woman in Kumasi was cursing the mayor of Kumasi for demolishing buildings in waterways. If I decide to do the same, you these same people will curse my children and me. Now that water has entered your gbemi, you are calling onya ka soomli, and instead of making sense, you are talking nonsense. Opro!”, he said.

“Many of you Ghanaians have been pampered for far too long. Me I no dey fear you. The water no enter you well. Like e for carry you enter the yenku forest!”

“I keep telling you guys, I’m not your regular MP. I’m not one of the MPs you can blackmail with votes. You can reach out to me for help, even though I’m not NADMO. But if you want to be stupid, I will insult you, your mother, your father father father! Kwasea, come and see my area in Accra!”, he added.

Some netizens reacting to his post stated, “This is an irresponsible response from a member of parliament. He is supposed to be a leader and the source of strength for his constituents. He needs to apologise”.

“He should insult him more kraaaa; of course he could have asked for assistance without being stupid.

What has entertainment got to do with this? Couldn’t he have said whatever he wanted to say without saying the Entertainment is enough.

Sia, ppl and entitlement”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “I support him A-Plus. Being a flood victim doesn’t affect ur brain. Listen to him so well and check the duties of an MP, and u will see the guy was throwing just a tantrum and not seeking for support”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that, so far, more than 150 people have been rescued, while at least 12 bodies have been retrieved following the devastating floods.

The GNFS Public Relations Department, Alex Nartey, speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight programme, stated, “The total number of people rescued will be in excess of about 150 people”.

“The death toll that I can confirm is about 12 people. The breakdown is as follows: two people, a mother and her husband, at Tema New Town unfortunately lost their lives; one person at Alajo; at Achimota Alogboshie, a woman and a child lost their lives; at Odawna, we had four people die; and at Achimota Abofu, one person died. So far, the confirmed death toll is 12, but it looks like it could be more. However, for verifiable purposes, I’m sticking to 12,” Nartey stated.
