A video has surfaced on social media capturing the moment a crying baby was brought to her mum to be breastfed during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) exams.
In the viral video, the crying baby was brought into the hall to be attended to by her mother, who was a candidate identified as a nursing mother.
Reports suggest the incident occurred during the Integrated Science paper in the Krachi East District.
In a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, he wrote, “The Integrated Science paper of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Krachi East District experienced a brief interruption when a crying baby was brought into the examination hall to be attended to by a candidate, a nursing mother.
The incident momentarily disrupted proceedings, as the candidate was permitted to care for the child under strict supervision.
The video has generated widespread reactions online, with some netizens saying, “Why allow this young girl to give birth in the first place? I might not be the only person who thinks it doesn’t make sense to allow her to conceive.
She got pregnant, yes. Is it good for the future, no.
Just imagine nursing a baby and having to sit down and learn to write one of the most important exams in her life.
Her parents or guardians didn’t try at all”.
One netizen stated, “Worst invigilator ever. And they’re recording it. Instead of him to carry the kid while the mom writes the exam.
That’s Ghana for you. They want to disgrace her for whatever reason, but ebe human she born”.
A netizen added, “Her identity being exposed is not acceptable. As a minor whose identity needs to be protected, she is having her right to privacy violated. Her face should be blurred”.
“The determination of a young mother sitting her BECE with a baby. Ghana must make sure she gets every support she needs to continue her education”, one X user added.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination began on Monday, May 4, with over 620,000 candidates across Ghana sitting for the exams.
The exams conducted by the West African Examinations Council will run until May 11, with 620,141 candidates from 20,395 schools set to participate.
