“I’ll establish Patriotic Health Insurance for aged NPP members” – Dr Adutwum

0

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful and former Minister of Education, has promised to introduce a party-based health insurance scheme.

According to Dr Adutwum, the party-based health insurance scheme will be known as the Patriotic Health Insurance.

He stressed that the health insurance scheme will be for elderly NPP members if elected flagbearer of the party.

Dr Adutwum noted that the initiative is intended to provide healthcare support for elderly members and long-serving delegates.

He also highlighted that the move will strengthening the party’s appeal to the younger generation.

Speaking to NPP delegates and supporters during his campaign tour of the Ashaiman Constituency on January 26, Dr Adutwum stated, “I have a special vision for all of you. I know many of you have followed the party for a very long time.

The reason I am deeply interested in doing something for our elderly party members is that if no action is taken, the youth in the party will leave”.

“If we do not take care of you, the strength of the party will decline. If you vote for me, all elderly members will benefit from the party’s Patriotic Health Insurance scheme,” he vowed.

Some netizens reacting to Dr Adutwum’s promise stated, “He will work for his party, not for Ghanaians, shame”.

“These fools are greedy, and they will continue to be greedy. You will set up patriotic health insurance, with which funds? You will use state funds to cater for party folks at the expense of the general masses, are you stupid or something?”, one more netizen added.

A netizen quizzed. “With tax payers money or what? If you want to do it, do it now for your party ooo hw3  the first accountability koraa (ORAL) we nor see top and you are saying what ?🤔 These people think of themselves and their party only”.

“Such thinkers! Everything they think of is for the Party and Party members and not the country. I sometimes wonder where they get their knowledge from”, another Ghanaian added.

One more X user added, “When you hear people who has been in the corridors of power talk foolishly like this. You then understand why their decisions have affected you negatively all your life”

“Whenever any of the NPP aspirants speak, all you sense is that they’d be working for party members and not Ghanaians as a whole.

No wonder we experienced what we saw under the previous NPP administration”, another netizen added.

“They always prove us right; they don’t care about the Ghanaians; all they care about are their party members. 2028 should come fast for me to vote for Mahama again, the only president who cares about his people”, a netizen stated.

One last netizen reminded Ghanaians, “The party that took pensioners’ bonds and investment and couldnt pay its workers 8 months in opposition wants to establish Health insurance for the aged in the party”

“If the street are calling for a canidate NPP should present Shatta Wale” – Kwabena Agyepong

0

Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, a flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said claims the party is clamouring for support for one aspirant is propaganda.

According to Kwabena Agyepong, the NPP can present dancehall king Shatta Wale, because he is popular.

Kwabena Agyepong further highlighted that the street cannot decide who to lead the New Patriotic Party, but rather the party members.

He explained that the NPP needs to choose and sell its candidate to Ghanaians.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Pure Fm, Kwabena Agyepong stated, “They say mechanics and market women say we should bring one candidate, but that should not be the case. The party is ours, and so the party will choose their candidate, and afterwards, the party will market its candidate. They say we should bring the one Ghanaians are clamouring for, but how did you know this is the one Ghanaians are clamouring for?”

“We are a political party; there is something called leadership. The five of us have to contest, and after contesting, we will go to the people of Ghana with the candidate we have chosen and sell his strengths to the people”.

“There is propaganda that the streets want one candidate, and if that’s the case, then there is no leadership. If that is the case, then we should go and bring Shatta Wale because he’s the popular one and has the numbers,” he stated.

Meanwhile, John Boadu, the former NPP General Secretary and now National Chairman hopeful, has said that if possible, he will get Ghanaian dancehall king Shatta Wale to join the party.

According to John Boadu, the NPP’s future will depend on how they connect with the youth.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, John Boadu stated, “I know how to deal with these young guys, selling our messages, and making our message not too hard, as soft as they want, we’ll be able to get to them,” he said.

“By the year 2028, ages between 18 to around 36 to 40 will be about 60% of the voters. The solution is to get into their arena and deal with them”.

When asked if he is going to get Shatta Wale to join the NPP, John Boadu responded,  “If possible, why not, and campaign for you? Not necessarily a hard campaign, but passing through this high content”

However, he was reminded that the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections engaged King Paluta, yet suffered a humiliating defeat.

He noted, “You need to do more of that by nurturing these youthful people. I am saying it is not even necessary to have them at your rallies”

“You need to meet them where they are. You need to be able to tap them with their interest and not necessarily bring them on your political platforms, and it is important that we look at that.”

He further argued that the NDC is now having a growing influence of young academics.

John Boadu added, “You can now see that academia, for instance, looks like the NDC is having a lot of them as we speak now. Many of these people don’t need so much”.

“It’s not about an appointment. Many of them just need recognition. Many of them need that touch, that belonging touch of the party to be able to get because many of them want to be seen as the ones who are even reviewing your programs, reviewing your policies”, John Boadu noted.

He further praised Shatta Wale for his massive influence among Ghanaian youth citing, “The crowd Shatta Wale pulled for his birthday concert, no political party can achieve that”.

Watch Man seen in a viral video threatening to become an armed robber begs

0

A man who was seen in a viral video threatening to become an armed robber if his shop was demolished by NADMO officials has rendered an unqualified apology for his utterances.

According to the man, he has received widespread criticism from the public, with some Ghanaians calling on him to apologise.

In a new video, the man expressed remorse over the incident and has since pleaded with well-meaning Ghanaians to help him get back on his feet.

He further appealed to Ghanaians for support as he has kids to take care of following his business being demolished, during the demolitions along the Kpeshie Lagoon.

In an earlier video yesterday, January 16, 2026, the man cried out as demolitions continue along the Kpeshie Lagoon.

According to the victim, he would become an armed robber if his business collapses.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, the Victim of the Kpeshie Lagoon decongestion exercise boldly stated, “I am giving myself four years; if this business collapses, I will become an armed robber”.

The demolition was being carried out by NADMO with the support of the Greater Accra Regional Minister.

The demolition exercise involves the demolition of unauthorised structures situated along the lagoon as a protective measure to reduce flooding.

Some netizens reacting to his apology stated, “Think twice before u talk or act wen ur temper is high”.

Another X user added, “You can clearly see he isn’t a bad person. May God come through for each and everyone of us in this life Amen”.

“We understand his frustration. I just hope he gets the support he needs”, another X user added.

Meanwhile, Ing. Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has backed the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and her team for the ongoing demolition of structures encroaching on the Kepshie Lagoon.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, January 27, Ing. Mahama stated, “Thumbs up to the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the team for what they are doing. I don’t know the persistence with which Ghanaians move to fill lakes, streams and ponds. It looks like we don’t want them, yet the benefit of rivers and ponds is that, when we have a large volume of water, they accommodate it and release it gradually into the surrounding dry land.

“But the more we consume these lakes and wetlands, the more we expose ourselves to massive floods that will inundate the country. On this call, I want to applaud the Minister,” he said.

Watch Church members nabs thief for breaking into treasury to loot

0

A viral video has surfaced of some Church members busting a suspected thief who broke into their church treasury to steal.

Reports suggest the suspected thief entered the Church and pretended to be seeking a quiet time with God, only to break into the church’s treasury to loot their savings.

In the viral video, the suspected thief was given a hot slap, which landed him on the floor.

He was asked to open up the church’s treasury for them to see how he usually opens it.

SIKAOFFICIAL, who shared the post on X, wrote, “Church members nab a suspected thief, who had entered the house of God under the guise of seeking a quiet time with God before breaking into the church’s treasury and looting their savings”.

Some netizens reacting to the viral video stated, “ Their lord Jesus Christ said they should forgive 70 x 7, but they can’t even forgive a mere thief. Bunch of hypocrites”.

“Church paaa dem dey slap like that ?! Herhhh .. what happened to turning the other cheek?”, another netizen added.

Another X user claimed, “That’s a pro right there, he’s grown with it.

But crazily every thief is a liar 🤥, so when somebody lies to me, I know they can steal too”.

A netizen added, “Now the church members are angry. What’s the difference between this thief and your lying pastors that tell you to sow seeds with your cars and business monies?”

“This is totally true because I remember when I visited my grandmother in our small town, she dropped some serious wisdom on me. She said, “Grandson, one day some people will waste their time reading your comment.” Today is that day”, another X user added.

Additionally, one Ghanaian wrote, “Make them leave the guy alone. The fact that you had to slap him means you don’t know what you are doing in that church. A bunch of headless chickens”.

“He came to steal in the house of  God, and you caught him, just pray for him and let him go, no need for a slap, cos u re all sinners, he might be going through something. You don’t treat people like that”, another X user added.

“Why are they slapping him and not forgiving him while preaching the word of God to help him repent and enter the kingdom?”, a netizen quizzed.

Video – Fuel tanker overturns on the Nsawam Road

0

A fuel tanker has overturned on the Nsawam Road near Panpaso.

In a video shared by Kobby Kyei on social media, some residents were captured in the video as they converged at the scene, with some trying to siphon fuel from the tanker despite the presence of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service.

The personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were also spotted at the scene, looking on as the residents risk their lives trying to siphon fuel from the tanker.

The exact cause of the fuel tanker overturning is yet to be determined.

Kobby Kyei, in his post, wrote, “A fuel tanker has overturned on the Nsawam Road near Panpaso.

A number of residents have converged at the scene, with some trying to siphon fuel from the tanker despite the presence of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service.

In cases like this, residents are advised to keep away from the area and allow emergency services to fully secure the scene before any further action”.

The video has caused a buzz on social media with some Ghanaian X users reacting, saying, “And the next minute, they will be seen attacking firefighters for preventing them from syphoning the fuel”.

This behaviour must stop. This is a disastrous scene that people are playing with.

“If something should happen now, you will see some meatheads calling the government to come to their aid for their own actions, which Wisdom will tell you to avoid.

We can’t blame “poverty” for this attitude. We can’t justify this as “wisdom”. It is purely evil and unsafe for anyone. Oh, Ghana, when will you be different? Oh, Ghana, may wisdom find your children”, a netizen added.

“The moto guys so close🤦‍♂️eiiii🔥 danger paaa oo⚡⚡A small spark then a stupid “National Disaster” Our people need to be sensitised on the dangers”, a netizen added.

“You will never see this in Europe

Never !!!

All it takes is just 1 light of fire, and they all die alongside their households”, one  user added.

One more Ghanaian added, “If they are that dumb to trade their life for 9.90 fuel, then so be it. Life is full of risk, but you still have to be calculated, and clearly these folks are ready for whatever”.

“I swear I’m sure most of the people there even motor self I no sure say dem get some but see how them Dey risk dam ma life for just 9¢ or 10¢ per liter fuel …… e hard ohhhh”, a netizen added.

One last X user added“I’m tempted to assume that these people don’t know the danger they put themselves in by this single silly act. However, at the same time too, I believe this tells how people are ready to put their lives on the line for bread because of difficult economic conditions”.

“By mid 2026, Mahama will become a lame-duck president” – Afenyo-Markin predicts

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Parliament, has predicted that by mid 2026, President John Mahama will become a lame-duck president.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the NDC is divided; he alleged that the party has its candidate while the presidency is also fielding its own candidate for the elections.

Afenyo-Markin alleged that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has chosen Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, as her running mate.

The minority leader alleged that President Mahama will become a lame-duck president because the NDC will be fighting over who succeeds him.

Speaking at a press conference on January 26, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “The NDC also have a leadership contest ahead of them, which is very messy.

The NDC is divided because of power. Today, Asiedu Nketiah says he is going on a ‘thank you’ tour; what we have seen is that the government has its own preferred candidate for the flagbearer and the party also have their own choice of flagbearer”.

Afenyo-Markin further added, “ By mid-year, President Mahama will become a lame-duck president because everyone is fighting for power. The Vice President also wants to become president. Recently, we heard that she has chosen Haruna Iddrisu as her running mate”.

“We have also heard that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, is going to contest, and his running mate is Fifii Kwetey, the NDC General Secretary. The majority leader and Ablakwa are also doing their personal permutation. Also, the finance minister is preparing his running mate”.

Meanwhile, Paul Adom-Otchere had claimed President John Mahama has identified Ato Forson and John Jinapor as his preferred NDC candidates for the 2028 elections.

According to Adom-Otchere, John Mahama is backing Ato Forson following his performance in handling the Ghanaian economy as Finance Minister.

Adom-Otchere described the ticket of Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and  John Abdulai Jinapor as the president’s ticket.

Speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show on October 31, 2025, Adom-Otchere alleged, “This is President Mahama’s ticket, from what we are hearing, Cassiel Forson, the finance minister… He’s been told that if he continues doing what he’s doing until the end of next year, he will be the anointed choice of John Mahama as the next flagbearer of the NDC”

Who is going to be his running mate, our good friend John Jinapor, member of parliament and minister for Energy. The two ways the NDC want to say they are doing well in government are one of them, energy, and the other is finance”.

He added, “Ato Forson will tell you that the cedi was 17, it is now 10, it’s a feather in his cap. He will tell you gold reserves have improved and petroleum prices have been stabilised”.

He further alleged that Cassiel Ato Forson has his eyes set on becoming the leader of the NDC.

“Cassiel Ato Forson is firmly focused on becoming the leader of the NDC, the presidential candidate of the NDC, going forward to the 2028 election, and his running mate is John Jinapor.

“John Jinapor, they call him ‘JJ’ in Parliament, and he’s the deal. The two of them, Ato Forson and Jinapor, are the president’s ticket. Forget about everything else,” Adom-Otchere asserted.

Some Akufo-Addo appointees walking freely because they funded NDC – Kpebu

0

Martin Kpebu, a Private legal practitioner, has made a shocking revelation that some former Akufo-Addo appointees are walking freely because they funded the NDC campaign in the 2024 election.

Lawyer Kpebu highlighted that under every regime, some cases will be traded off, adding that there are some specific people who have still not been arrested despite allegations levelled against them.

According to Lawyer Kpebu, some appointees have remained untouched because they funded the NDC campaign.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, Martin Kpebu explained, “The truth be told, in every regime it happens, there are some cases that they will trade off; you can see even in the arrest, there are some specific persons who have never been arrested; they are in Ghana here, then you will understand.

“We are not that naive, okay? But we understand there are certain characters. You see them in the previous regime. Everybody was pointing fingers”.

He added, “When this government changes, he’ll be the second or third to be arrested. the same in Ghana. You don’t understand how the elections were won.

“Before elections, people go and trade horses. They will fund the opponent,” he said.

“Yes, some of this is. You can’t get the hardcore evidence. But we know that, listen, this person walks in town and he has no case at all against him. You can see that he must have funded elections. Yes, because that’s the only time it makes sense.”

In related news, Francis Asenso Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama and the former Roads and Highways Minister, has alleged that some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters sponsored John Mahama to defeat Dr Bawumia in the 2024 election.

According to Francis Asenso‑Boakye, the NPP supporters, unhappy with Dr Bawumia leading the party as a flagbearer in the 2024 elections, sponsored John Mahama ahead of the December 2024 polls.

Speaking on Angel TV, Francis Asenso‑Boakye detailed, “Our contest to elect a flagbearer in 2023 was very divisive, with tension and all that; we even went as far as insulting each other. Even during our campaign, our own words were being used against us by the NDC.

Some of our own NPP people were actively working against our win in 2024, so it was difficult, including some who sponsored the then-opposition party against us. It was a difficult election”.

He continued, “It’s all because of how we conducted our primaries. I have gone to a primary, and I lost. In the NPP, after losing a we support whoever wins the election, but some people do not understand; they were sabotaging the one that won.

I am not talking about the presidential candidate; some individuals in our party supported some other aspirants for me. I had a call from a known activist of the NDC mentioning people who were coming to the then opposition leader. They were giving him money, which is sad. Today, some of these things are being brought up that Dr Bawumia did not perform well, so we should elect another candidate”.

Lumba’s daughter runs to court over Akosua Serwaa’s letter of administration

Charlyn Fosu, the daughter of late Daddy Lumba, has filed a misjoinder at the Kumasi High Court seeking the court to remove her name from the letters of administration filed by her mother, Akosua Serwaa and Ernestina Fosu.

According to Charlyn Fosu, lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, the Kumasi High Court had ruled in his client’s favour.

Speaking to the media after court proceedings, he revealed the court granted the application and ordered that his client’s name be struck out of the letters of administration.

Lawyer Enoch Afoakwa stated, “We are here because Lumba’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, and his sister, Ernestina Fosu, filed letters of administration to manage the musician’s estate, and in that document, they included Charlyn Fosu’s name.

“But Charlyn Fosu, together with the other 10 children, did not agree to apply for letters of administration. Per their decision, even if any child is to be included, they support Calvin Fosu as the appropriate person to do so,” he said.

“She wished the controversies had died down so the family could appreciate the legacy their father left behind before his demise. She added that if the children are to appoint someone to lead the legal process, it should be the male-born,” he added.

The lawyer further disclosed that Lumba’s children desire peace.

He added, “She wished the controversies had died down so the family could appreciate the legacy their father left behind before his demise. She added that if the children are to appoint someone to lead the legal process, it should be the male-born”.

Earlier, Daddy Lumba’s children had reacted to their mother, Akosua Serwaa, filing for a letter of administration at the Kumasi High Court.

According to Lumba’s children, in a joint statement issued on January 20, 2026, they are deeply concerned about claims that they are at loggerheads with their mother after the document circulated online.

Lumba’s children noted that the allegations claiming their mother included Charlyn Fosu’s name in the letters of administration without her knowledge are untrue.

Lumba’s children declared that they stand in solidarity with their mother, adding that any rumours suggesting that they are at odds with her should be disregarded.

In their letter, Daddy Lumba’s children stated, “We are deeply concerned by comments and insinuations suggesting that we are in conflict with our mother, that there are intentions to arrest her for speaking or writing on our behalf, or that there is tension between us as children and our mother. These claims are entirely false, malicious, and baseless”.

“Even more troubling are the unfounded accusations directed at individuals such as Kenpong, who is being unfairly portrayed as having ulterior motives simply because he has offered support to our mother and to us, her children, during this difficult period in Ghana. Such allegations are reckless, misleading, and deeply unfair. We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that our relationship with our mother is strong, loving, and respectful.”

“We therefore urge the public and all social media users to ignore these rumours and refrain from amplifying negativity. Our family is united. There is no conflict between our mother and us. Any claims to the contrary are deliberate falsehoods,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Lumba’s widow, Akosua Serwaa, and his elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, have jointly applied for letters of administration to manage and distribute his properties.

In response, Daddy Lumba’s second wife, Odo Broni, together with her legal team, has filed to challenge Akosua Serwaa’s application.

Odo Broni’s legal team, however, argued that Akosua Serwaa cannot consider herself the sole surviving spouse of the late Daddy Lumba.

They argued that Akosua Serwaa does not have the capacity to individually apply for letters of administration.

The Kumasi High Court, following the filing of Odo Broni’s caveat, has given Akosua Serwaa and her legal team seven days to prove their case on why they should be granted the letters of administration to manage and distribute the properties of the late legendary singer.

“Let me repeat it again: he is a liar” – Ken Agyapong attacks Bawumia again

0

Ken Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has once again attacked the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him a liar.

Speaking to NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries, Ken Agyapong stated he will still repeat it again that Dr Bawumia is a liar, as he has a list of things he said that were lies.

Ken Agyapong stated, “Some days ago, they were saying I, Ken Agyapong, should apologise. You have backed people to criticise me after calling him a liar; they are handling him as if he were an egg. He is a liar.

I have repeated it again, he is a liar, today they should go and say it on TV everywhere that I kennedy Agyapong, say he is a liar. He is a liar. I can list several things he has said that are lies, but the NPP is covering up because they want him to win. I have said it, he is a liar”, he added.

The former Assin Central MP further rallied for support from the people of the Central Region, telling them to have faith as this time the president will be from the region.

Ken Agyapong stated, “The people of Akan have become pitiful. If you can go and stand at Sekeyere Afraim plains and say, you are from the North, we should vote for you, and you got Asante’s and people of Akan following you.

When we get to Assin Central, we will show them, have faith, people of Assin, all the time you are being used like a doormat, they use the Central Region for power after they walk all over us. Out of 23 seats, we can claim 19 seats, but they give us two ministers of a pathetic ministry. This time, the president is also coming from the Central region”.

Also, Ken Agyapong, speaking to some delegates after the NPP peace pact, was later heard echoing that he would not apologise to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The former Assin Central MP highlighted that he would not be pressured into withdrawing his claims, adding that his comments formed part of his account of events at the Peace Pact ceremony.

Speaking to the delegates, Ken Agyapong stated, “I will not apologise. I will apologise my foot. I don’t fear anybody,”

Ken’s refusal to apologies stem from his outburst to comments made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, but he attributed them to Dr Bawumia.

According to Wontumi, Professor Adu Boahen was not retained by delegates in 1996 after contesting the 1992 election due to poor health.

Chairman Wontumi made these claims while speaking to NPP delegates in the Ashanti Region.

He noted that the claim is in a book authored by Apenten Appiah-Menka, who was an associate of Professor Adu Boahen.

Kennedy Agyapong, reacting to the statement, fired a personal attack at Dr Bawumia, calling him a liar.

Mr Agyapong stated, “I have never seen a liar like our former flagbearer before. This man is a liar for saying that Adu Boahen did not contest because he was sick, you should not vote for a liar, a man who is lying to have power”.

“Listen to the history, Adu Boahen contested in 1992, and he won but lost the general election in 1996. The former flagbearer is in Kumasi, saying Adu Boahen was sick.  Kufuor contested Adu Boahen, and he beat him to become the flagbeaerr, he was fighting to go on oppose, and they did not agree.

Someone who wants to lead this country, and you are lying and distorting history, don’t vote for someone like this. He has been given a nickname that he is a liar. He is a liar, and the people will not vote for him”.

He added, “When I heard him yesterday, a presidential candidate who wants people to vote for him will look eyeball and eyeball and lie, he is a big liar for saying Adu Boahen was sick, go and check history, I am more popular in this country than him, those who know him know him as a liar that is why we lost”.

“NDC is divided because of power” – Afenyo-Markin blows alarms

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Parliament, has blown an alarm that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is divided because of power.

Meanwhile, unofficial reports gathered suggest Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, Eric Opoku, and Johnson Asiedu Nketia are rumoured to be eyeing the NDC 2028 flagbearership.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections is expected to field a new candidate as current President John Dramani Mahama is serving his constitutionally mandated second term in office.

President John Mahama, with just months in his second term in office, has to deal with speculations of surrounding his successor.

Haruna Iddrisu, in December 2024, finally responded to the growing calls for him to contest the NDC flagbearer position after John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Friday, December 13, 2024, Iddrisu expressed his interest in pursuing the presidency, despite acknowledging the challenges that come with such a pursuit.

He stated, “My eye is on the ball, but I don’t know about tomorrow.”

Haruna Iddrisu has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale South Constituency since 2005.

Also, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), also broke his silence on rumoured presidential ambition.

According to Asiedu Nketia, no serious politician rules out any position.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Asideu Nketia stated, “No serious politician rules out any position. It’s known that it is ambition that drives politics.

And if you rush to rule things out, you get to a point where you’ll be at a corner where you regret having ruled out certain positions”.

However, unconfirmed reports also suggest that Eric Opoku, the current Minister of Food and Agriculture, is being pushed by some bigwigs within the NDC.

According to sources, Eric Opoku is being pushed forward as John Mahama’s heir, silently, not to create unnecessary attention for the minister.

It has also been alleged that a strong team has been mobilised to advocate for Eric Opoku.

Eric Opoku joins a tall list of NDC bigwigs, including National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

Mahama’s humane and easygoing nature could become a weakness – Kofi Amoabeng

0

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, a former UT Bank boss and founder, Captain (Rtd), has said President John Mahama’s eagerness to please people could undermine his authority.

According to Kofi Amoabeng, President Mahama’s humane and easygoing nature could become a weakness if not balanced.

Kofi Amoabeng, while praising President Mahama’s respectful approach to leadership, warned that being too eager to please people could undermine his authority.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show, Kofi Amoabeng stated, “He goes for the general road. He has humility. And even the wife is worse when it comes to humility and those values. And he means well”.

“Even though they are achieving results, which is quite obvious, if you look at inflation, cedi to dollar rate, and all sorts of indicators, they are doing well. We’ve been through a lot of bad times that we’re only watching. Even though we want to be optimistic, we are very cautious about it,” he said.

Kofi Amoabeng added, “He’s easygoing. He relates to people with no hard feelings. It’s about respecting everybody. The only thing I’m not sure about our president is that he loves to see people happy. He wants to please people”.

“Yes, because you must be a bit crazy to say this is where we’re going, and if you’re not doing it, you get the sanctions, even if it means sacking”.

“With responsibilities, you make them responsible and accountable. It’s very important to question performance and sanction,” he stressed.

In related news, Kofi Amoabeng has urged President John Mahama to create 10 Ghanaian billionaires.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng urged President Mahama to choose young, honest Ghanaians and support them by paying their taxes to allow their business to stand.

Addressing the President directly, at the Fourth First National Bank (FNB) Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament at the Achimota Golf Club last Friday, Prince Kofi Amoabeng stated, “My suggestion is that, apart from helping the poor people with the employment arrangement, we should try to create at least 10 millionaires or billionaires in Ghana. Deliberately”.

“You can choose people, young people, who are honest and pay their taxes and have business to stand for, and intentionally, the government backs them up with grants, with contracts and things like that. To grow them so that you go across internationally and everything, and project the name of this country.”

“So, Mr President, identify, please, not only NDC, but genuine business people and push them, encourage them, so that they will become successful for our dear country,” he said.

Mr Amoabeng further detailed two major problems hindering Ghana’s economic acceleration.

He added, “One other thing which really freaks me out is the proposed Accra commercial project. Every right-thinking person who spends about seven hours to go to Kumasi only wants to pay even 1,000 cedis so they can get there in time, conduct their business and come back.”

“I personally had a debt recovery, which took eight years. And you ask yourself, somebody has come for your money, give you a collateral, it’s not paying, why should it take eight years?”

“Mr President, don’t let your people lead you into temptation to contemplate a 3rd-term” – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority leader, has warned President John Mahama not to be influenced by people to contemplate a third term in office.

According to Afenyo-Markin, although President John Mahama has said he is not interested in a third term, he should not allow his people to lead him into temptation.

Addressing a press briefing on Monday, January 26, 2026, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin stated, “We are aware that Mr President himself says he is not interested in the third-term agenda but we take this opportunity to also mention to Mr President that Mr President, we are aware that many of your party members want to push the agenda,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further called on President Mahama to reaffirm his position directly to Ghanaians, adding that the Minority will oppose any such attempts to advance a third-term agenda.

He added, “Please tell them one more time. Maybe when you said so in Singapore, they didn’t hear you. Mr President, you haven’t spoken about your non-interest in a third term in Ghana”

“Please tell your people that you are not interested at all. They shouldn’t lead you into temptation, and by the way, it is not possible”, the minority added.

Meanwhile, Prophet Eric Boahen Uche, commonly known as Prophet Uche, the Founder-Leader of Creator’s House Chapel, has boldly declared that President John Mahama will be forced to go for another term.

According to Prophet Uche, President John Dramani Mahama has another term to rule Ghana, adding that he must rule Ghana for 8 years and not four years.

Speaking to his congregation during the 31st Night watch service, Prophet Uche detailed, “In the spiritual court, where heaven met, our father John Dramani Mahama must rule Ghana for 8 years and not four years. He has another term to rule in the highest office of Ghana”.

“I told people who are close to me and ‘papa’ about this about eight months ago. I told them that he (Mahama) will be forced to go for another term,” he said.

Also, Rev Owusu-Bempah, the Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries International (Glorious Chapel), has once again stated that President John Dramani Mahama must be allowed to continue to rule Ghana beyond his second term.

According to Rev Owusu-Bempah, he believes no one can handle the country better than President Mahama.

The man of God stressed that Mahama should be made to continue as president until he decides to step down and appoint someone for Ghanaians to support that person to continue his good work.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Rev Owusu-Bempah stated, “President John Dramani Mahama deserves commendation because things have been going well since he became president. Ghanaians have seen the good things he is doing, such as paying off debts and stabilising the economy. We must praise him because he is working”.

“For me, I don’t want him to go because there is no one else who can do better than him, looking at how he is ruling the country. If he wants to step down, he should appoint someone for us to support because I don’t know who else can help rule the country better,” he added.

“CJ job was handed to you on a silver platter” – Afenyo-Markin tells Baffoe-Bonnie

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader, has told Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie was handed the Chief Justice job on a silver platter.

Addressing a press briefing on January 26, 2026, Afenyo-Markin issued a stern warning to Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and the judges of the Supreme Court.

Speaking at a press briefing, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We have heard that certain people have filed processes at the court. We also have this to tell my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie; we know that this job was handed to you on a silver platter. We know that you have your masters to please, but my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie, in the end, when history is being written, it will be your name”

The Minority reminded the Supreme Court judges of the commitments they made during their vetting, adding that their actions will be closely monitored.

He added, “To our judges at the Supreme Court, Ghanaians are watching how you determine the matters that are coming before you, requesting your own integrity.”

“When you came for vetting, you made certain commitments to the people of Ghana. Ghanaians heard you, so again, the mighty Minority is watching you,” he added.

“We will not be silenced by threats of contempt. If, by criticising the judiciary, they decide to march us into Nsawam, we are ready to become prisoners of conscience,” he declared.

Also, the Minority in Parliament criticised Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie over his recent visits to government ministries and agencies.

“We have seen that my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie and his management are all over the various ministries, including Jubilee. Is he on a thank you tour? Is my Lord Baffoe-Bonnie thanking the government for appointing him as Chief Justice?” the Minority asked.

“And we hear today he is coming to Parliament. We, the Minority, don’t see him as a tolerant head of the judiciary because members of the Minority came under attack when we criticised the processes leading to his nomination. We would therefore not be part of his thank you tour,” they added.

“If he wants to engage us, our offices are open. He should come and engage us, and we’ll let him know the things that we find wrong,” they said.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has revealed his plans for Ghana’s justice system.

According to Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, he envisions a judicial system where justice is neither delayed nor denied.

Speaking at his swearing-in as Chief Justice on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Jubilee House in Accra, Baffoe-Bonnie stated, “I give my solemn word that I will uphold the rule of law, respect the separation of powers, and protect the Constitution”.

“I will respect the independence of every judge and ensure that the judiciary remains free from improper influence. I will also insist on accountability because independence without responsibility risks entitlement and erosion of public trust.

Our judiciary must be independent, impartial, and accessible. It must not serve the powerful or the connected at the expense of the weak and vulnerable. It must resist any incursions on its freedoms but also embrace accountability, transparency, and continuous reform,” he said.

“A peaceful, fair election on January 31 will be another step towards NPP’s revival” – Abu Jinapor

0

The Member of Parliament for Damongo and a member of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has said a peaceful, fair election on January 31 will be another step towards the NPP’s revival.

Abu Jinapor called on all NPP members to ensure a peaceful, fair and orderly conduct of its presidential primary on Saturday, January 31.

Speaking on The Point of View on Monday, January 26, Jinapor stated, “How the NPP conducts itself on Saturday, January 31st, will have far-reaching implications for the fortunes or the forward march of the party.

If we, as it should be, can conduct a peaceful, fair, orderly, decorous election on Saturday, January 31st, that will be another major step towards the revival of the NPP.”

Also, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, has to place party unity above all things.

He cautioned that the verbal attacks could worsen divisions within the party.

Salam Mustapha stated, “I pray and hope that we will all, post-January 31, seek genuine reconciliation and build a united, stronger party fit for purpose to take on the NDC”.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in parliament, has warned the NPP that every single insult traded, every unsubstantiated allegation, every attempt to demonise a rival becomes a weapon for their opponent’s tomorrow.

According to Afenyo-Markin, factionalism may energise internal contests, but it weakens the party’s capacity to win national elections.

He further added that he was saddened to hear Professor Frimpong Boateng say publicly that he did not vote in the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the signing of a peace pact by NPP flagbearer aspirants, Afenyo-Markin state, “Factionalism may energise internal contests, but it weakens the party’s capacity to win national elections and to govern effectively. I was saddened to hear the respected Professor Frimpong Boateng say publicly that he did not vote in the 2024 elections. This is what division can do to us. It is unfortunate”.

“Unity is not a slogan, it is a discipline to disagree without destroying one another,” he said.

“It is the humility to accept outcomes we may not like and the maturity to place the national project above personal disappointment. Every single insult traded, every unsubstantiated allegation, every attempt to demonise a rival today becomes a weapon in our opponent’s hand tomorrow,” he warned.

The minority leader further touched on the peace pact saying, “Today is not an ordinary party ritual. It is a test of leadership and patriotism. This peace pact is not only about who wins on January 31. It is about whether on 1st February and beyond, the NPP will still be strong, united and credible in the eyes of Ghanaians.”

“Ghana is watching a party that has, at its best, delivered significant reforms. Ghana is also watching a party that is anxious, polarised and yearning for competent, honest and visionary leadership. Whenever the NPP is united, it is formidable, and whenever it is divided, it bleeds, and Ghana pays the price,” he said.

“A fractured NPP does not only risk losing another election. It weakens Parliament’s ability, especially the Minority’s ability, to stand as a bulwark against excesses, impunity, and bad governance,” he said.

A video has been captured of the before and after scenes of the damage caused by illegal miners, commonly known as galamseyers.

Reports suggest the galamseyers were arrested in the Abuakwa South District and were ordered by the Abuakwa South MCE, Hon Nana Adu Aikins Sarpong, to reclaim the damaged land.

In a post shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, he wrote, “The Municipal Chief Executive for the Abuakwa South District, Hon. Nana Adu Aikins Sarpong, has led the arrest of some suspected illegal miners responsible for the devastation of lands near the homes of Asikamu residents.

Following their arrest, the suspected individuals were ordered to immediately commence refilling the pits as part of efforts to reclaim the land”.

Some netizens reacting to the viral video wrote, “What exactly is the MP for Abuakwa South doing after campaigning on promises of job creation for the youth in the area? Arrests alone won’t solve the problem – sustainable jobs are needed”.

“Why do we keep abusing the word ‘suspect’ (suspected)? We see people do this to our environment, and you call them suspected illegal miners? It’s clear what they’re doing is illegal, throw them in jail”, a netizen added.

Another X user added, “This is my problem with galamseyers. Reclaim the lands after mining your gold. Nature will take it course afterwards. Everything will be back to normal life again”.

“These Galamsey people are getting out of hand. Because of money, people don’t think about anything else. This is serious, and the earlier we fight it, the better”. One more Ghanaian added.

In related galamsey news, the Ghana Police Service has announced they have arrested twenty-two (22) Togolese nationals engaging in illegal mining activities galamsey.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested within the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.

In a social media post on X shared by the Ghana Police on January 23, 2026, read, “POLICE ARREST 22 FOREIGN NATIONALS FOR SUSPECTED ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES.

The Savannah Regional Police Intelligence Department has arrested twenty-two (22) Togolese nationals suspected of involvement in illegal mining activities within the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.

The arrest was effected on 23rd January 2026 when a team of police officers intercepted a Kia truck with registration number BA 223-12. The vehicle was being driven by suspect Abdul Majeed Yakubu”.

“No amount of political spin can erase the reality” – Majority slams Minority

0

The NDC Majority in parliament has slammed the Minority in parliament following their press conference yesterday, January 25, 2026.

In a statement issued on January 26, 2026, and signed by the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, he reminded the minority that the Ghanaian people have not forgotten the severe economic hardships experienced under the NPP leadership.

Mahama Ayariga, in a statement, reminded the minority that no amount of political spin can erase the reality.

According to the Majority, the NPP minority lack moral authority to criticise the current government.

He recounted how Ghana’s financial system collapsed, with the cedi depreciating at unprecedented levels and inflation soaring.

Parts of the Majority statement read, “The Ghanaian people lived through one of the most difficult economic periods in our history, and no amount of political spin can erase that reality”.

The majority statement follows the minority press conference, where they accused the NDC government of only using the anti-LGBTQ bill as a political tool to win the 2024 general elections.

According to the Minority caucus, the NDC leveraged the legislation to win power but is currently seeking ways to dissociate itself from the law.

He highlighted that the NDC’s posture sharply contradicts its campaign rhetoric, citing the inclusion of LGBTQ-related content in the Senior High School curriculum.

Speaking to the media at the Minority Caucus’s Holding Government to Account press conference, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “We hear His Excellency the President play on words to say that government was engaging in wider consultation to see how the law could be formulated in a better way. Really? Was it not the same law they said was okay to be passed?

When the Mighty Minority members decided through private members bill to now pin them to their own principles, suddenly after all the processes has been followed, and approval given and the motion was on the order paper, the NDC through its Majority leader found a way of using procedure to claim that there was no such approval by the Speaker and tried to scapegoat the Clerk of Parliament.

We hold the view that the NDC used the Anti-LGBTQ law only for power, and now that they are facing the reality, they want to find a way of running away from it. We will insist that they act by their own principle,” he said.

Also, the minority claimed Ghana’s recent economic gains have nothing to do with the John Mahama-led government’s competence.

Addressing the press on Monday, January 26, the Minority Leader asserted that the IMF program, debt relief, rising commodity exports, and reduced government expenditure are the key drivers of the economic improvements.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “We have been told that the economy is doing well. That is not in doubt, but the question is: is the economy doing well because there is prudent management of our economy, or is it that this government has introduced some social intervention programs that have, in themselves, created an opportunity for young, ambitious Ghanaians?

“We hereby submit that the so-called gains were not born out of the government’s competence in the management of our economy. Rather, the IMF program, debt relief, rising commodity exports, and reduced expenditure are the major reasons for the upswing in Ghana’s economy, not a re-engineering of the economy,” he said.

Photos – Anwona Market in Kumas catches fire 24 hours after Sofoline fire

0

A devastating fire has swept through the Anwona Market near Afful Nkwanta, destroying several shops and their contents.

Reports suggest the fire incident happened on Monday night at about 10:00 pm.

The Anwona Market fire comes barely 24 hours after a devastating fire outbreak at Sofoline Magazine.

Ghana National Fire Service personnel were deployed to the scene and worked to contain the fire. The firefighters prevented the spread of the fire to the adjoining structures and nearby properties.

Eyewitnesses revealed the blaze is believed to have started from a section of the market housing a footwear factory.

However, the official cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

Traders at the Anwona Market are said to have suffered significant losses as goods and equipment were reduced to ashes; no casualties have been reported so far.

In related news, over 100 vehicles have been destroyed as a devastating fire swept through mechanic shops at Sofoline in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Reports detailed that the devastating fire occurred on Sunday night and caused extensive damage to property and livelihoods.

According to reports, the fire started at around 7:00 p.m and consumed over 100 vehicles.

Also, numerous engines and large quantities of upholstery materials have all been lost in the Sofoline fire.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the fire started when refuse was being burned in a dark area close to the shops, which led to the flames spreading rapidly due to the presence of tyres, rubber materials, upholstery items, and various car spare parts.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire has not been officially made known by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Back in the capital, Accra, DOII Desmond Ackah, the Head of Public Relations of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has announced that no casualties were recorded during the Kwame Nkrumah Circle market fire.

According to the GNFS PRO, neither the fire personnel nor the civilians present sustained any injuries during the efforts to bring the fire under control.

He further revealed that the fire has been brought under control, with fire officers working tirelessly to extinguish it completely.

Speaking to the media, he stated, “…We have not recorded any fatalities or injuries, whether among firefighters or civilians”.

“When we say the fire has been confined, it means we have stopped it from spreading further to the west, east, north, or south, so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

Violent Winneba youth clash leaves one dead, several injured

0

One person has been confirmed dead following a violent youth clash in Winneba, in the Central Region.

Reports suggest the violent clash was between two youth factions in Sankor, Winneba.

ACP Ibrahim Opoku, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander cornfrimed that several persons got injured in the clash which occurred on Sunday, January 25.

The Ghana Police have since arrested multiple suspects following an examination of the videos of the event.

According to reports, one individual identified as Excoba has died from multiple machete wounds and gunshot wounds he sustained during the clash.

The exact cause of the clash remains unclear, as viral videos of members of the factions inflicting machete wounds are viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has intensified operations in the community with calm restored.

In related violent news, some illegal miners have attacked a Police patrol, which led to one person being killed and others injured.

Reports suggest the incident occurred on Saturday, January 24, 2026, during the Ghana Police Officers’ routine patrol.

According to the information gathered, the police patrol team seized a firearm belonging to the illegal miners, which led to the wild confrontation.

On January 24, in a post on Facebook, the police revealed that the incident occurred on Thursday, January 23, 2026, while officers were on routine patrol duties.

According to the Police, the officers had earlier retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to direct the owner of the weapon to report to the police.

Nevertheless, while the patrol team was returning, they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road.

The group, suspected illegal mining operators, were armed with cutlasses and firearms, and reportedly assaulted the officers and seized a service rifle.

One individual who took possession of the rifle was shot by the police, while another suspect sustained injury, adding that the service rifle was successfully recovered.

In the viral video shared by Asaase Radio on Facebook, the escalated confrontation resulted in one police officer firing warning shots in the air, but another Police officer fired at the illegal miners as they attempted to bolt from the scene, which resulted in fatality and three injuries.

Meanwhile, the Amansie Central District Security Council (DISEC) has ordered an investigation into the incident.

The Regional Minister condemned the violent incident that followed a confrontation between suspected illegal mining operators and the police.

According to him, no one has the right to mobilise and attack men in uniform.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, January 26, the Ashanti Regional Minister said, “Over the weekend, there was an unfortunate incident involving some residents of Jacobu and police personnel, which led to the death of one person.

“I must condemn, without fear of contradiction, the mobilisation and attack on men in uniform. No one has the right to do that. That confrontation was avoidable, and any loss of life is deeply regrettable.”

“My condolences go to the family. The Municipal Chief Executive has engaged them, and although they are remorseful and seeking access to the body, I want to assure them that the process will be expedited. However, investigations and due process must be followed,” he stated.

He added, “I want to assure the youth that if you have any problem, do not confront the police. The police are your friends. There are legally available channels through which grievances can be addressed, rather than mobilising and attacking men in uniform”.

“We are engaging the community to secure their cooperation and ensure that the right investigations are carried out,” he added.

“Why is Ghana disciplined with the IMF but fails to be disciplined on our own?” – Solomon Owusu quizzes

0

Solomon Owusu, the Communications Director of the United Party, has quizzed why Ghana is always in fiscal discipline under the IMF supervision but fails to do so on its own.

According to Solomon Owusu, Ghana’s economic structure is outdated, adding that fundamental reforms are long overdue.

Speaking on JoyPrime on January 26, Solomon Owusu cautioned the government against prioritising IMF approval over structural economic reforms.

Solomon Owusu stated, “The IMF is not an institution that builds a nation or develops an economy. It is there to make sure we remain a developing economy, not a transformed one.”

“We invite the IMF when we are unable to deal with our problems. That is when they come in. What they bring is discipline and rules, like the agreement we signed in 2022.”

“The President should not be worried about being seen as an IMF poster boy. The real issue is what policies we are putting in place to move from stability to transformation.”

“The IMF does not encourage investment in strategic sectors. It serves the interests of the West, not countries like Ghana.”

“We must think differently. We need serious investment in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, oil, and gas. That is how we can free ourselves from the IMF.”

Solomon Owusu further questioned why Ghana’s fiscal discipline appears achievable only under IMF supervision.

“Why can we be disciplined with the IMF but fail to be disciplined on our own?” he asked. “That shows we lack self-control.”

“We are still living in a medieval economy. That is why Ghana has gone to the IMF about 17 times. Until we change our mindset, the cycle will continue.”

His remarks follow, President John Dramani Mahama saying Ghana has become a poster boy for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

President Mahama noted that Ghana’s progress in the last year has received international recognition and admiration from other African countries, which are now studying Ghana’s policy choices.

Speaking on the state of the economy during the 23rd Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the First Sky Construction Company on Sunday, January 25, President Mahama stated, “I have done this job before, and the crisis we faced was extremely difficult. In my own estimation, I thought it would take about two years to see an economic turnaround. But this is how far God has brought us”.

“We are all surprised and shocked at the speed of the recovery. Whenever I meet IMF and World Bank officials, they are amazed at what has happened in Ghana. Today, Ghana has become something of a poster boy for the IMF and the World Bank. Bringing inflation down from 23.8 per cent to 5.4 per cent within a year, and seeing the cedi appreciate by 37 per cent in the same period, can only be attributed to the grace of God,” the President added.

He added, “So when you go to other African countries, they say dont you see Ghana, don’t you see what Ghana has done. And that is why I say, it is by the grace of God.”

“In my own imagination, I thought that we would need about two years to begin to see a turnaround, that is what I thought, but Ebenezer, this is how far God has brought us,” he said.

Mahama should be allowed to continue ruling; no one can handle the country better – Rev Owusu Bempah

0

Rev Owusu-Bempah, the Founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries International (Glorious Chapel), has once again stated that President John Dramani Mahama must be allowed to continue to rule Ghana beyond his second term.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama had already declared that he would not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections.

According to John Mahama, stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to hold the line when it comes to Ghana’s fiscal discipline in an election year.

Mahama, during a bilateral discussion with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, criticised the practice of incumbent governments by-passing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters, a cycle he will end.

“I will not be a candidate in the next elections, and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.

In related news, Rev Owusu Bempah has boldly stated that God’s blessings are on Ghana under President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, Ghana’s recent economic stability is a clear indication that the blessings of God are upon Ghana.

He cited that a year ago, during the festive period, the dollar to a cedi was at 17 cedis, but today it is around 11 cedis.

The man of God stressed that many Ghanaians were able to enjoy the holiday period more than in previous years due to reduced financial hardship in the country.

Speaking to his congregation during his church’s 2025 Christmas celebration, Rev Owusu Bempah stated.

“Look at the blessings of God upon Ghana; whether you like it or not, it is a fact that cannot be denied. Look at the cedi’s performance against the dollar this Christmas it is around 11 cedis. This Christmas, Ghanaians have really enjoyed this year’s Christmas because of good leadership. I’m not doing politics, I am speaking facts,” he remarked.

“We have seen a difference because the President and his Vice President can pray for over two hours for Ghana. The President believes in God, he believes in divinity, and the way I see it, Ghana is going to get better,” he added.

“An economist cannot develop Ghana” – Prof Frimpong-Boateng

0

Prof Frimpong-Boateng, a former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, has boldly stated that an economist cannot develop Ghana.

The former Minister resisted claims that Ghana needs an economist at the helm of affairs in order to make any progress in its development process.

According to Prof Frimpong-Boateng, no single economist in Ghana can turn its fortunes around.

He highlighted that Ghanaians have it in their minds that an economist has the magical wand to fix our problems, which is not true.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng is quoted as having said on Nhyira FM’s Kukurantumi, “We’ve got it stuck in our heads that an economist will magically fix everything. But let me tell you, there is no way an economist can develop Ghana.

“They say Akufo-Addo did not allow Bawumia to do his work as an economist and even struggled to get funds for some initiatives he brought on board,”

He highlighted that Ghanne needs rich folks who have created jobs in the helms of affairs, not economists.

“We need people who create worth and jobs. Look at our rich folks who have created jobs; none of them are economists. Those are the people we need leading Ghana,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) electing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia again will be a trainwreck.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, Prof Frimpong-Boateng cautioned the NPP from electing the former Vice President again.

He expressed deep concern about the NPP’s internal processes, citing that the party’s last presidential primaries were he noted that people were intimidated with delegates being bribed just to elect a flagbearer.

Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng stated, “Look at how they elected their last flagbearer — twisting weak people’s hands, bribing delegates, intimidating others. This is the beginning of corruption, and this should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party,” he said.

“We lost the elections badly, and we did not deal with the issues that led to the losses, and we still want to go in there. I think that it will be a trainwreck if we elect the old flagbearer,” he stressed.

Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, however, described Dr Bawumia as a nice person, but being nice but noted that being nice alone is not enough to lead Ghana.

He stated, “No, no no. Bawumia is a very nice person, but being nice alone is not enough to lead Nkrumah’s Ghana”.

He further clarified that he harbours no personal animosity toward Dr Bawumia and urged him to clearly distance himself from individuals who were responsible for the economic difficulties under Akufo-Addo.

“No one has the right to attack men in uniform” – Regional Minister on Jacobu clash

0

Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has said no one has the right to attack men in uniform.

He explained that the youths should not confront the police if they have any problem, as there are the right channels to do so.

“We are engaging the community to secure their cooperation and ensure that the right investigations are carried out,” he added.

His comments follow the attack of a Police patrol that led to one person being killed and others injured.

“It is by the grace of God” – Mahama on Ghana’s quick economy turnaround

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana has said the quick turnaround of Ghana’s economy is by the grace of God.

According to President Mahama, in his imagination, he thought Ghana’s economy would need about two years for Ghanaians to begin to see a turnaround.

President Mahama noted that Ghana has become a poster child for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

He highlighted that anytime he meets the IMF officials and the World Bank Officials they do not believe what has happened in Ghana.

President Mahama noted that Ghana’s progress in the last year has received international recognition and admiration from other African countries, which are now studying Ghana’s policy choices.

He further detailed his government bringing inflation down from 23.8 per cent to 5.4 per cent within a year, and seeing the cedi appreciate by 37 per cent in the same period.

Today, Ghana has become something of a poster child for the IMF and the World Bank.

Meanwhile, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, has showered praises on the John Mahama led NDC-government.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, the John Mahama government’s performance has been good.

He further highlighted that he hopes and prays that the good work the Mahama government is doing continues.

Gabby Otchere-Darko, in an interview with GHOne, stated, “This government’s performance has been good so far, I pray it continues”.

In that same interview, Gabby also indicated that both the NPP and NDC must be credited for where Ghana is now.

He added, “We should credit both NPP and NDC for where Ghana is now”.

Also, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Education Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has praised the John Mahama-led NDC government for Ghana’s steady economic management.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 17, Dr Adutwum stated that he is happy that the Mahama government is doing something good for Ghana.

He highlighted that he likes inflation being at 5 per cent, which brings stability and a stable cedi.

Dr Adutwum on Newsfile stated, “Like any Ghanaian, I am happy that the government is doing something good for our nation, bringing stability,” he said on the show when host, Sampson Lardy Anyenini, asked what he makes of the current situation of the economy.

“When I move beyond that, I begin to look at the future of Ghana, and where we can go, then we will have a different discussion. But of course, the government comes in and is able to do certain things; it is not about politics, it is about doing the reality and saying I like 5% inflation, it is a good thing. It brings stability. I like the fact that the cedi is stable, it is a good thing,” he said.

“So we are in a good place, stability, but we have to look beyond that stability to say if there is no oxygen on the patient, what will happen? When I take off the oxygen, if I take off the ten billion intervention, what will happen?.”

“I will not apologise; I don’t fear anybody” – Ken Agyapong tells Bawumia’s camp over ‘big liar’ tag

0

Ken Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has boldly rejected calls from Bawumia’s camp to apologise to the former Vice President after he tagged him a ‘big liar’.

Following the backlash, a statement purportedly issued from the Ken campaign team surfaced, but Spokesperson for Team Ken, Kwasi Kwarteng, refuted claims that Ken Agyapong has issued an apology.

According to Kwasi Kwarteng, Ken has not issued any apology and still stands by his comments.

Ken Agyapong, speaking to some delegates after the NPP peace pact, was later heard echoing that he would not apologise to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Ken Agyapong also asserted that he was the only aspirant who identified a mistake in the NPP peace pact documents, as the other aspirants failed to read the documents, and accused fellow aspirant Bryan Acheampong of signing where he was supposed to.

“Even PhD holders couldn’t see the mistakes”, he said.

In that same vein, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has quizzed Ken Agyapong following his insults directed at fellow NPP aspirant Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in an interview on Owia TV, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Kennedy, asked Ken Agyapong, between him and Bawumia, who is a liar after mistakenly attributing the comments made by Chairman Wontumi to the former vice president and subsequently launching verbal attacks against him.

He stated, “Something that he hasn’t said, you claim he has said, and you have been insulting him. Why would you frame something on someone, accuse him wrongly and insult him on top of that?

“So, between the two of you, who is the liar? I even started the whole Adu Boahen issue,” he said.

Ken biggest beneficiary of Akufo-Addo gov’t, yet goes around criticising him – Kwabena Agyapong

0

Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, an aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has slammed Ken Agyapong despite being the biggest beneficiary of the Akufo-Addo government.

According to Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, Ken Agyapong was the biggest beneficiary of the Akufo-Addo government in terms of contracts.

He highlighted that Ken Agyapong, after benefiting from the Akufo-Addo government, goes round critising him, the former president, to get the base against his government.

Speaking in a radio interview, Ing. Kwabena Agyapong highlighted, “All those making noise, the one going around claiming the government did not look after its people, Ken Agyapong’s wife was a chairperson of the Ghana Shippers Council, let’s call a spade a spade, he himself was the chair of Ghana gas and everybody is aware of the amount of contracts in the eight years of Akufo-Addo that went to him”.

He added. “Some went to his family, this is the same person; instead of thanking Akufo-Addo, he is walking around criticising his government, trying to get the base of the party against the government, but you were the biggest beneficiary”.

Meanwhile, all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants on January 22, 2026, signed a peace pact ahead of the party’s primaries on January 31, 2026.

Kennedy Agyapong – Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Dr Bryan Acheampong – MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Agriculture, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – Former Vice President, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum – Former Minister of Education, Mr Kwabena Agyepong – Former Presidential Press Secretary and NPP General Secretary, all signed the peace pact.

The five aspirants committed to unity, respect for the electoral process, and support for the eventual winner ahead.

In related news, Ofosu Asamoah, the former Member of Parliament for Kade and campaign manager for Kwabena Agyepong, has publicly declared his support for the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the former Kwabena Agyapong’s campaign manager, in life, one must not embark on a journey that will take you nowhere.

Ofosu Asamoah made this announcement during a campaign event in the Eastern Region.

Speaking to NPP delegates on Monday, December 1, 2025, Ofosu Asamoah stated, “If you see me here, don’t be surprised. I am the same Ofosu Asamoah you know. My connection with Dr Bawumia isn’t new; I just chose not to back him earlier. But sometimes change is necessary”.

“In life, you don’t embark on a journey that is taking you nowhere. You need a clear vision to know where you are heading. I was a campaign manager in Kwabena Agyepong’s team, but after much assessment, I have decided to be part of this team,” he added.

$214m loss by BoG and GOLBOD under G4R amounts to causing financial loss to the state – Minority

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has said the loss by the Bank of Ghana(BoG) and the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) amounts to causing financial loss to the state.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the BoG and GOLBOD, in their Gold for Reserves, caused a $214 million loss, which amounts to causing financial loss.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, January 26, Mr Afenyo-Markin stated, “$214 million loss from BoG and GOLBOD G4R dealings amounts to causing financial loss to the state”.

He further warned that GoldBod’s dual role as both a regulator and an operator could be encouraging illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

He stated, “Organised labour last year sounded an alarm and indicated that galamsey activities have worsened. This government has failed to provide tangible evidence of its commitment to the fight against galamsey”.

“It is clear that they are always involved in PR gimmicks, looking at the optics rather than the substance. They are interested in short-term gains”.

He added,“All we know is that they are talking about their success story, the amount of gold, or tonnes of gold, they have purchased, yet they have failed to tell us whether there are measures to tackle illicit gold produced through galamsey activities”.

“We are concerned because the future of this country is at stake, and the earlier this government takes steps to protect the future of Ghana, the better,” he said.

Meanwhile, in an earlier press conference, the minority led by Asokwa MP, Patricia Appiagyei, on Thursday, January 8, has accused the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, of the $214m Gold-for-Reserves loss.

Patricia Appiagyei criticised the BoG Governor for his failure in oversight and called for a thorough investigation and accountability.

According to the minority, the BoG Governor must answer for $214m Gold-for-Reserves loss.

On Thursday, January 8, Patricia Appiagyei addressed the press and fired shots at the BoG Governor, saying, “The institution that funds the Gold-for-Reserves programme, the institution whose balance sheet bears the $214 million loss. The institution that should have provided rigorous oversight, Under the Governor’s watch, these losses occurred.

“Excessive fees were allowed, trading losses mounted, controls failed, and when the IMF exposed these losses, the Bank of Ghana issued a press release dismissing the IMF’s concern instead of scrutiny.

“As Governor, he must answer. What oversight did the Bank of Ghana provide, when did they become aware of losses and why defend and deny rather than investigate? Who approved the off-takers contract?

“Critically, as someone who benefitted from the nolle prosequi, does he not see the public concern when accountability questions arise again around politically exposed actors?” she said.

“NDC used anti-LGBTQ bill only for power, now running away from it” – Minority

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority in Parliament, addressing the media have accused the NDC government of only using the anti-LGBTQ bill as a political tool to win the 2024 general elections.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has made a definitive statement on the pending anti-LGBTQ bill legislation, declaring that he will assent to the bill if it is passed by Parliament.

According to John Mahama, a person’s gender is determined at birth, adding that the family is the foundation of our nation.

He added that there is no question what Ghanaians believe in.

Speaking to leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, President Mahama stated, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done. If the Parliament of the people of Ghana endorses the bill, votes on it, and passes it, and it comes to me as President, I will sign it”.

“A person’s gender is determined at birth, and the family is the foundation of our nation. That is our position. So, there are no questions or equivocations about what we believe,” President Mahama noted.

He added, “We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done”.

Ghana’s Anti-LGBTQ bill under the former Akufo-Addo government faced several lawsuits filed against the bill, leading to a delay in its signing.

Eventually, the bill, which became a burden for the previous government, remained just a bill and was not passed into law before Akufo-Addo left power.

The bill sought to criminalise Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ+) activities in Ghana, was passed by the 8th Parliament, but remained unsigned before the 8th Parliament was dissolved.

Furthermore, conversations and discussions about the controversial anti-LBGTQ bill have resurfaced under the John Mahama government.

Ghana’s economic gains not born out of gov’t competence – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has claimed Ghana’s recent economic gains have nothing to do with the John Mahama-led government’s competence.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana has become a poster child for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

According to President Mahama, his government and the IMF are surprised at the quick turnaround of Ghana’s economy.

He highlighted that anytime he meets the IMF officials and the World Bank Officials they do not believe what has happened in Ghana.

President Mahama noted that Ghana’s progress in the last year has received international recognition and admiration from other African countries, which are now studying Ghana’s policy choices.

Six pick forms to contest the NDC Ayawaso East primary

0

Six people have picked up nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary to select a candidate to represent the party in the Ayawaso East by-election in the Greater Accra Region.

The NDC Ayawaso East primary is scheduled for February 7, 2026.

Following the close of nominations on Friday, January 24, 2026, the aspirants are to return their completed nomination forms on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the party’s regional office.

The six aspirants who have officially picked forms include,

Mohammed Ramne

Mohammed Abdul Salam

Yakubu Azindow

Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed

Najib Mohammed Sani

Amina Adam

The ruling NDC has announced February 7, 2026, for its parliamentary primary to select a candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency by-election.

According to the NDC, nomination forms will cost GH¢5,000, while the filing fee has been pegged at GH¢40,000.

Under Ghana’s Constitution, Article 97 mandates parliament to declare an MP’s seat vacant, with Article 112 mandating that the Clerk of Parliament notify the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacant seat due to death, resignation, expulsion, or other constitutional grounds like joining another party.

The Electoral Commission (EC) then triggers a by-election within 90 days, unless the vacancy occurs within three months of a general election.

This is to ensure a continuous representation and the people’s right to choose their MP.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on January 16, 2026, declared that a parliamentary by-election for the Ayawaso East Constituency will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Meanwhile, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that the party will contest the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.

The NPP General Secretary revealed the party has already begun the process of selecting a suitable candidate.

Speaking on JoyNews on Wednesday, January 7, Mr Kodua stated, “Why shouldn’t we contest?” he asked. “The New Patriotic Party will contest the Ayawaso East by-election, and as I speak to you, we are doing our own candidate search to get a very good, well-accepted candidate to contest.”

Justin Kodua extended condolences to the family of the late Member of Parliament and the NDC.

He stated, “First and foremost, let me send my deepest condolences to the family and the NDC as a party”.

“I was very surprised and shocked that he could make such a statement. This is not the first time we have had by-elections in this country,” he said.

Justin Kodua explained, “When the NPP decided not to contest Tamale Central, the NDC decided to contest Akwatia. So for whatever reason that influenced them to contest Akwatia, the same reason is also influencing us to contest the Ayawaso East by-election.”

“It’s not an issue of whether it is an NDC stronghold or not. We are going to contest, and we are going to make sure that we win the seat.”

“With issues of death, I know the Electoral Commission has about 60 days to organise the by-election. So I can assure you that before the Electoral Commission opens nominations, the NPP will have a candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election.”

130 health workers leave Ghana for Antigua under gov’t’s labour exchange programme

0

Some 130 Ghanaian health workers have left Ghana for Antigua under the government’s Labour Exchange Programme.

The health workers left the country on Monday, January 26, 2026, to undertake a three-year contract in Antigua.

The move is part of the Mahama government’s plans to tackle unemployment in Ghana while strengthening Ghana’s presence in the international health sector.

A departure ceremony was held at Kotoka International Airport with the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, seeing off the health workers.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, highlighted that the intervention aimed at addressing the backlog of more than 80,000 unemployed health professionals.

Speaking on the initiative, the Minister of Health stated, “The Ghana Labour Exchange Programme is an initiative of the President to create jobs for citizens. Today, it is the turn of health workers. We inherited a backlog of more than 80,000 health professionals who have completed various degrees but are without employment.

“As part of efforts to create jobs, the government is exploring avenues where countries have requested that our health professionals work with them. Today, it is Antigua. We are also working on similar arrangements with Trinidad, Barbados, and Jamaica. These deployments will be done in batches,” he said.

Still on health workers news, the Health Minister has revealed that Ghana would need about GHS6 billion to recruit all 74,000 unemployed health professionals currently at home.

The health minister highlighted that his ministry is working to clear backlog by collaborating with the Finance Ministry.

Speaking in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, October 15, the Minister explained, “We will need not less than GHS6 billion to be able to absorb all the 74,000 health professionals at home at the moment”.

Mintah Akandoh further clarified that the brouhaha surrounding the 13,000 newly recruited nurses and midwives’ clearance.

The health minister once again blamed the former Akufo-Addo administration for issuing clearance without financial backing.

He stated, “The reality is that in 2024, the government started to recruit nurses and midwives. So the summary is that they recruited about 13,500 nurses and midwives and issued clearance”.

“Once you issue clearance, you must make financial provision. Clearance is not just a paper… you issue clearance when indeed you can pay when you recruit the people.”

“The clearance expired on 31st December 2024. What it means is that before the expiration… you must necessarily have all these 13,500 people on the payroll. As at the end of 31st December 2024, not a single one of the 13,500 people were on the payroll,” he added.

Your dirty talk is part of the reason we lost the election – Bryan tackles Ken Agyapong

0

Dr Bryan Acheampong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has told Ken Agyapong, one of his opponents for the party’s flagbearer, that his dirty talk is part of the reason the NPP lost the 2024 election.

According to Bryan Acheampong, during the NPP’s Thank You Tour last year, Ken Agyapong was sacked from the bus following a disagreement during the tour.

Speaking to NPP delegates, ahead of the NPP primaries on January 31, 2026, Bryan Acheampong stated, “It is not even because we won an election that post was not given to some people, when we lost the election during the ‘Thank You Tour’ Kennedy Agyapong was remove from the bus, he was told to get around Bono Region if you remember.

Your own words were part of our defeat. Get out, so we can think about ourselves. I don’t know how he got back to Accra”.

He further recounted how Ken Agyapong, during his interview on UTV, refused to answer whether he was going to support Dr Bawumia if he wins.

According to Bryan Acheampong, he was scared of Ken’s response, adding that, “When you lose an election, it’s God, even when you lose, your campaign manager leaves you for the winner”.

Meanwhile, Dr Bryan Acheampong has said he would restore discipline in the NPP when he wins the party’s flagbearer position on January 31, 2026.

The Abetifi lawmaker highlighted that a lot of people within the NPP are just talking, insulting, and fighting on all platforms.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, there is no respect for authority within the NPP, and lines are being crossed back and forth.

Speaking on Asaase Radio, Dr Bryan Acheampong explained, “A lot of people in our party, just talking, insulting, fighting… on all platforms, radio, TV, social media, everywhere there’s banter. There’s no respect for authority; lines are being crossed back and forth. Nowhere in the world can you win an election with this level of indiscipline?

“Look at my campaign, you won’t find anybody in my campaign speaking against anybody or insulting anybody. No, you dare not,” he said.

He added, ”January 31st, when I win on February 1st, I will restore discipline. To start with, I will ensure that everyone downs their tools, drops their mics and raise your fingers from the screen. Let’s have a conversation on how we are going to communicate with each other and how we are going to communicate with the external publics,” he said.

“To start with, I will ensure that everybody downs their tools. Come down, drop your mic, raise your fingers from the screen and let’s have a conversation on how we’re going to communicate to each other, how we’re going to communicate with the external publics going forward.

Meanwhile, the La Traditional Council last year warned encroachers at Laboma Beach and in the Kpeshie Lagoon areas to stay off those sites.

Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, the La Shiketele, indicated that none of the developers had title or the authority from the land owners or permits to embark on any developments there.

He warned, “All those developing at Laboma Beach and in the Kpeshie Lagoon areas are encroachers in the sight of the law and before the traditional council because they do not have a permit to undertake any development there”.

“Am shocked to the core, the level of development at these sites, because we had been here several times and we told them not to go ahead with any development because its consequences could be fatal” he said.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, legal counsel to Abu Trica, his client and two others have been discharged by the court.

Meanwhile, the Attorney-General has withdrawn charges against two of Abu Trica’s accomplices, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo.

Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo were the second and third accused persons in the ongoing extradition proceedings against Abu Trica.

Background

Abu Trica, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam which targeted elderly victims in the United States.

He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following an investigation conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough for the Northern District of Ohio.

The US Department of Justice wrote, “According to the indictment, perpetrators of this romance scam used Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities and form close personal relationships with victims. They gained victims’ trust to obtain money and valuables, often targeting individuals through social media and online dating platforms under false pretences.

Victims were often elderly and engaged in romantic but physically distant relationships with perpetrators. The perpetrators built trust through frequent, intimate conversations by phone, email, and messaging platforms. They then requested money or valuables under false pretenses, such as urgent medical needs, travel expenses, or investment opportunities. Relying on these misrepresentations, victims were persuaded to send funds or valuables, which were then directed to co-conspirators posing as third parties.

The indictment also alleges that after the victims transferred funds, Kumi worked with a network of co-conspirators to distribute the money from Ohio and across the United States to associates in the Republic of Ghana and other locations.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification, and faces up to 20 years in prison”.

It further added, “If convicted, a defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to this case, including a defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offence, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt”.

“IMF does not build nations” – Solomon Owusu tells Mahama over ‘Poster boy’ comment

0

Solomon Owusu, the Communications Director of the United Party, has told President John Dramani Mahama that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not build or develop nations.

The UP Communications Director urged the Mahama government to stop celebrating IMF endorsement and instead focus on long-term economic transformation.

According to him, the IMF is there to make sure countries remain a developing economy, not a transformed one.

His comments follow, President John Dramani Mahama saying Ghana has become a poster boy for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

However, speaking on JoyPrime on January 26, Solomon Owusu cautioned the government against prioritising IMF approval over structural economic reforms.

“FAKE NEWS” – GAF breaks silence on 60% HIV positive recruits reports

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly dismissed false reports that were circulated in the media, which alleged that about 60 per cent of applicants who went through medical screening tested positive for HIV.

According to  Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, the reports are fake news and urged the public to ignore the reports.

In a press release issued by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, she revealed that the medical screening process for applicants is still ongoing, and no results have been released.

“The Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to transparency and assured the public that official information would be communicated through the appropriate channels when the medical screening process is duly completed”.

In related news, Prophet Kofi Oduro, the General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, last year boldly told the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to refund the 60,000 applicants’ money.

The man of God communicated displeasure in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) following the deaths of six young girls during the military recruitment.

According to Prophet Oduro, the Ghana Armed Forces knew they were looking for a thousand people and should have capped their system at ten thousand, arguing that GAF allowed sixty thousand Ghanaians to show up when they were only looking for four thousand.

Speaking to his congregants, Prophet Oduro stated, “The Armed Forces have given people the opportunity to blaspheme the institution. You are looking for four thousand people. So then the system should be capped at ten thousand.

We block the portal. Case closed. We allow sixty thousand to come in when we want only four thousand, he added.

Prophet Oduro boldly declared that the Ghana Armed Forces must refund the fees of all 60,000 applicants if they fail to recruit them.

According to him, the blood of the six victims who died during the El-Wak stampede would be on the hands of the Army if they fail to refund the 60,000 Ghanians.

“So then I stand on this altar, and I say to the Ghana Armed Forces, refund the money of all those 60,000 people. If you don’t enlist them… all the blood of these girls shall be on your head,” he added.

His comments follow the six young girls who have died in the military recruitment at the El-Wak Stadium.

Also, Dr Adrian Alter, the IMF Resident Representative in Ghana, has praised the managers of the country’s economy.

According to the IMF Resident Representative, Ghana in 2025 performed better than expected.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Thursday, Dr Adrian Alter stressed that Ghana’s IMF programme is solid and on track.

He explained, “Ghana’s programme remains solid and on track with the fifth review being completed, and disbursement being done at the end of December”.

“All indicative and performance criteria targets have been met,” he said. “And most of the reform agenda has been concluded and implemented.”

He pointed to decisive actions, saying, “The authorities implemented strong corrective actions in the aftermath of the 2024 fiscal slippages,” he said, adding that “the 2025 macroeconomic outcomes have been better than expected.”

“Inflation came down faster than expected,” he said. “Growth exceeded expectations. Reserves have improved. The currency appreciated and stabilised.”

“There are many, many macroeconomic indicators that perform very well at the same time,” Dr Alter noted.

0

The son of the late legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has revealed that his father died without knowing his close associate, Maame Tiwa, was dead.

According to the son, the family deliberately withheld the information from Yaw Sarpong.

He revealed the decision was taken due to his fragile health and emotional state.

The son of late Yaw Sarpong noted that although news of Maame Tiwaa flooded social media, his father never got to know because he was not active on social media.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on January 22, 2026, the late Yaw Sarpong son explained, “No one informed him about Maame Tiwaa’s death. Everything was going on social media, but because he wasn’t active, he didn’t know about it,” he said.

“The reason why we didn’t inform him was that my father and Maame Tiwaa knew each other from their young age till they grew old.

“The kind of relationship and bond they both had was very strong,” he explained.

“We knew the news would break him, and since we wanted to recover faster, we had to hide the news from him,” he added.

Yaw Sarpong died on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Emena Hospital in Kumasi.

His death was confirmed by artiste manager Nana Poku Ashis.

Sources close to his family revealed the legendary gospel musician was receiving medical care at the hospital.

The late Yaw Sarpong was widely respected for his groundbreaking contributions to Ghanaian gospel music.

He rose to fame as the long-time leader of the Asomafoɔ Gospel Band, with whom he produced several timeless gospel classics.

His music helped shape contemporary gospel music in Ghana.

His work earned him immense respect within the Christian community and the wider music industry over the years.

Many younger gospel artistes cite him as a major influence on their musical journeys.

The late Yaw Sarpong has been in music for nearly 5 decades, with his first album coming out in 1981, “Adesrede”.

His hit gospel songs include  ‘Awurade Kasa,’ ‘Tie Obiaa,’ and ‘Wo Haw Ne Hwan.’

“Kumasi women who sell food are witches” – Man cries out

0

A man has cried out about some food vendors in Kumasi’s selling small portions of food despite the recent reduction in food prices.

According to the man, President John Mahama’s good governance has reduced food prices, but food vendors in Kumasi continue to serve small portions when he buys from them.

The man shockingly tagged the Kumasi food vendors as witches.

He alleged that the Kumasi food vendors are doing this out of jealousy, pain, and hatred towards the NDC government.

He further questioned why only food vendors in Kumasi are still serving low portions of food.

Speaking in the viral video, the man stated, “I am saying Kumasi women who sell food are all witches, you are surprised, if it is not witchcraft, since this government came in, they have reduced prices of food.”

“We usually eat rice and maize, and some small yam; this thing has been reduced, but when you are going to buy food, they serve you something small”.

“The people of Kumasi are the ones doing this, they are in pain, that the government has changed and things are going well, but they are deliberately planning to make things difficult if this is not witcraft what is it?”, he added.

Some netizens reacting to the video stated, “Some Ghanaian businesses are 5 and 6 with high profits”.

“Bro went full detective mode: food prices drop thanks to JM → Kumasi waakye ladies still stingy with portions → must be NDC hatred witchcraft”, one x user added.

One more x user added. “If you’re making a point about fairness and realism, food vendors can’t reduce prices in just a moment. For any real drop to happen, the costs of raw materials and services must fall by about 50–60% across the board.

And also some are on loans before the cedi’s appreciation against foreign currency.

Just as good policies of government don’t just don’t reflect on the growth of the economy, but also as it was implemented. It needs some time frame”.

In related news, a popular kenkey seller located behind the Electoral Commission headquarters has reduced the price of her kenkey to ¢4 and ¢5.

According to the Kenkey seller, a bag of maize, which used to sell at ¢900, has dropped to ¢500 per bag, hence the reduction in her kenkey prices.

Speaking in a viral video, the kenkey seller located behind the Electoral Commission headquarters stated, “Maize prices have dropped, so I also have to reduce the price of Kenkey. If you are selling and the prices drop, you have to reduce them. Before, a bag of maize was being sold at ¢900 to ¢500.

The kenkey is 5 cedis, I don’t sell kenkey for 7 cedis here, it is 5 and 4 cedis”, she added.

Video of Ken Agyapong caught lying surfaces after labelling Bawumia a ‘Big liar’

0

A throwback video of Ken Agyapong an New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has resurfaced after labelling Bawumia a ‘Big liar’.

In the viral video, Ken Agyapong uses his sister as a motivation for some students by recounting how his sister was not a brilliant student, yet managed to grow up to become a very successful interior decorator.

According to him, his sister was the interior decorator of the Despite museum.

Ken Agyapong stated, “My younger sister, Betty, when you tell her let’s go to school, she will fall sick for over one week. She dropped out at elementary three”.

“Recently, when Mr Despite unveiled his new house with a museum, can you believe that the interior decoration was done by my sister, who never attended a university. The lighting and all that was needed were done by my sister,” he said.

However, a reporter with Despite media on air revealed that  Kennedy’s sister was indeed invited to attend the museum’s launch event, but she was not involved in the interior design or any other architectural aspects of the project, as speculated by her brother.

The video has surfaced following Ken Agyapong launching a scathing attack on former Vice President and flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over a comment made by Chairman Wontumi.

According to Ken Agyapong, Bawumia is a big liar, and no Ghanaian trust him.

In a viral video shared on Facebook, Ken Agyapong fired a shot at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him a liar over a comment he alleged was made by the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP.

Ken Agyapong’s outburst stems from comments made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
