Bills hands 4 captured in a viral video assaulting a woman with a baby to Police

Management of Bills Micro-Credit Limited, in a statement issued, has announced they have suspended its field officers involved in a viral video assaulting a woman.

According to Bills Micro-Credit Limited, the incident is of serious concern, and they are working to establish the full facts surrounding what transpired.

Bills revealed they have handed the four over to the Ghana Police Service for investigation.

In a statement, the Bills Micro-Credit stated, “Following the earlier statement issued by Management regarding the incident captured in a video circulating on social media, Bills Micro-Credit Limited wishes to provide the following update.

Upon the directive of the Board, the officers involved in the incident have been immediately suspended by the company pending the outcome of investigations. In addition, the officers have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with independent investigations into the matter.

The Board has also reached out to the customer involved and will continue to engage with her as the investigations proceed.

Bills Micro-Credit Limited reiterates its commitment to professional conduct, accountability, and full cooperation with law enforcement authorities. The company will provide further updates as appropriate”.

Their action comes after a video surfaced of four male staff members of Bill’s Micro Credit debt collectors assaulting a woman carrying a baby.

Reports suggest the 36-year-old woman was assaulted by the four men over a GH₵300 loan default.

In the viral video shared on X, four male staff members of Bill’s Micro Credit debt collectors were captured on tape assaulting the woman who was carrying her baby.

CDR Africa, in sharing the video, stated, “Four male staff of Bills Micro Credit, a Ghanaian company owned by businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye, were caught on camera assaulting a 36-year-old woman carrying a baby over a GH₵300 loan default.

 The debt collectors stormed her home in a branded company car, took her phone, and physically dragged her to the floor”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the disturbing video on social media wrote, “Most of them, when they take the loan, they don’t invest it back into the business. Instead, they spend it on food, clothes, and school fees, expenses that generate no profit, making it difficult for them to repay the debt when it’s due”.

A netizen added, “@niiarmahquaye, please tell your board of directors to do better.

This kind of recouping of the past, and you can find other better alternatives to get your money back

Like putting the person on a blacklist across all financial institutions so they can’t access other funds until yours has been returned”.

“Some of y’all saying the guys didn’t try at all, and some other bad comments, etc., when she was going for the loan, didn’t she know the T&C and also she knew perfectly well this was gonna happen, that’s why she was still holding the baby for a reason”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Let us also remember that it is the money saved by customers that is given out as loans. You may not know when customers will come to withdraw from the bank. I don’t think it will be fair for the bank to tell its consumers coming to withdraw their money from the bank to hold on”.

A Ghanaian added, “This is the problem of Ghana and Africa. We don’t consider the first sinner; we focus on the second sinner. If you take a loan with conditions, why not respect the conditions? If your circumstances have changed. Go see the lender ahead of time”.

“lmao what people don’t know is that you need to be this violent to customers to protect your job. That’s what it looks like to me. It’s impossible that the company owner is unaware”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “How is the money at all that she is being treated like that? Hmmmmm, these people with this loan, if you take a loan from them before you finish paying your capital, will go so I don’t know why people are still taking loans from them”.

Another X user shared her experience saying, “My mom took a loan for her business, but when things don’t go well, and she can’t make the weekly payments, the loan sharks come around acting like she has the money but just refuses to pay. Who would take a loan with no intention of paying? You hope to pay, but life turns around”.

One more X user added, “But why is the woman exchanging words aggressively with them. Shouldn’t she be the calmer person here since she’s owing and has probably been called several times, but doesn’t answer. Unacceptable conduct from the bill’s guys, nonetheless. They could’ve done better”.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told party members that the Inspector General of Police was appointed by the NDC and he will not make party members suffer.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu was appointed by the John Mahama government, so he will not be selective against the NDC members to make them suffer when it comes to appointment into the Police.

Speaking to party faithful, Asiedu Nketiah explained, “About 500,000 people want to join the police. If we employ all of them, where would they find thieves to arrest, since everyone would be in the police service?”

“If you are the president and 500,000 people want to join the police, what can you do? Once you issue an appointment letter, you must pay the officer. Looking at our capacity, we can only recruit 5,000. These young people have been denied opportunities for so long, so the pressure is very high.”

He added, “Muntaka is also suffering. We have spoken to him. The IGP was brought by us, and he will not be selective to make NDC people suffer. But if the numbers are few, it becomes difficult to share. Let us hope that when things improve, we will be able to recruit more people into the security services”.

In related news, the NDC National Chairman has urged Ghanaians and party members to exercise patience as President John Mahama works to provide opportunities for everyone.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the anger being displayed by Ghanaian youths over the low intake of applicants in Ghana’s security services will not solve anything.

The NDC Chairman detailed that the first priority is to strengthen the economy, which will create more employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Asiedu Nketiah stated, “The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this.

“We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” he said.

He added, “Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all.”

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told the party’s grassroots that their patience will be vindicated soon.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is confident that the NDC’s challenges are temporary.

He further called on the NDC grassroots to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party, despite individual actions, adding that party officers are taking note of every situation and will give them serious consideration.

Mustapha Gbande also alleged that pro-NPP accounts are exploiting NDC grassroots frustrations.

According to Mustapha Gbande, most accounts expressing disappointment with the John Mahama-led government and appointees are pro-NPP accounts asserting that some actions of NDC appointees may deviate from party resolve but called on members not to abandon the party, as the pain and struggles shared keep them up at night.

Enayat Qasimi, a US-based lawyer representing Ghana’s former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has disclosed that his client has a pathway to US residency.

According to Ken Ofori-Atta’s US-based lawyer, his client will pursue permanent US residency rather than returning to his home country.

Reports by JOYNEWs revealed Enayat Qasimi told Semafor his client has a “pathway to residency” that he would pursue.

“He claimed there were “serious questions” about the independence of the Ghanaian judiciary and said that Mr Ofori-Atta had been subjected to a “political witch hunt” that meant he was unlikely to receive a fair trial over alleged financial impropriety while in office, from 2017 to 2024”, JoyNews is quoted to have said.

In related news, reports suggest the  United States immigration court has denied former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta bail.

Reports suggest that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bail, which was heard on February 19, 2026, was unsuccessful.

According to veteran journalist Alfred Ogbamey, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta had prayed the court to grant bail to allow him to seek medical attention.

Nevertheless, the presiding judge, David Gardey, denied the request.

Judge Gardey reportedly ruled that bail was unnecessary, arguing that Ofori-Atta has access to adequate medical care at the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility where he is being held.

Parts of the post shared by the veteran journalist stated, “At his hearing last Thursday, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta argued that he should be granted bail to access proper medical care. Sources say the Judge refused the request, insisting that the former minister has access to adequate medical needs at the ICE facility”.

Also, TV3 in a post stated, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta remains in detention in the United States after a bail application in his immigration case was unsuccessful, according to sources familiar with the proceedings”.

It will be recalled that Ken Ofori-Atta’s bond hearing what is known as a bail hearing in Ghana, took place on February 19, 2026.

The federal judge was said to know whether Ghanaian authorities have filed proper proof of an extradition request.

Meanwhile, in related development, Ken Ofori-Atta’s name has been permanently deleted from the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) Red Notice following a review.

On Friday, February 13, 2026, Ken Ofori-Atta’s Lawyers in a statement revealed that the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) had communicated its decision to expunge the alert from the organisation’s database.

According to the lawyers, the CCF concluded that the request for Ken Ofori-Atta’s arrest appeared to be primarily political in nature and did not meet INTERPOL’s neutrality requirements.

The statement signed by his lead counsel, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, read, “We are pleased to announce that, today, February 13, 2026, the Commission for The Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) has notified Kenneth Ofori-Atta that on February 4, 2026 during its 135th Session, it determined that the Red Notice issued against Ofori-Atta “appears of a predominantly political character” and is non- compliant with INTERPOL’s rules, and shall be deleted from INTERPOL’s files permanently.

“Specifically, CCF stated that: “After a thorough examination of the elements before it, the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system,” part of the letter read.

Ghanaian soldier critically injured during a missile attack recovering – UN

The United Nations has announced that Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia of the Ghana Armed Forces, who was critically injured during a missile attack on a UN peacekeeping base in Lebanon, is recovering.

According to the UN statement, Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia has undergone surgery successfully and is recovering after undergoing surgery.

Reports suggest the UN officials paid a visit to Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia and described his recovery as encouraging.

Part of the UN statement read, “Great to learn that Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia of Ghana, one of the peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon who was recently injured during a missile attack, is recovering”.

Also, the United Nations has echoed calls for the protection of peacekeeping personnel operating in conflict zones.

“Indeed, peacekeepers are not a target,” the UN said, using the campaign message #NotATarget.

In related news, António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, had earlier issued a formal condemnation following an attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers in Lebanon that led to three Ghanaian peacekeepers being wounded.

According to António Guterres, targeted attacks on “Blue Helmets” may constitute war crimes.

In an official statement, the UN chief stated, “The Secretary-General condemns the incident on Friday, 6 March, which resulted in three Ghanaian peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) being injured inside their position in Al Qawzah, southwestern Lebanon, amidst heavy firing. He wishes a swift and full recovery to the injured peacekeepers”.

“The Secretary-General underscores that the safety and security of UN personnel and property must be respected at all times, and that those responsible must be held accountable. The inviolability of UN installations must be respected by all,” Guterres stated.

“The United Nations urges the parties to de-escalate immediately and fully adhere to their obligations under Security Council resolution 1701 (2006),” the UN chief added.

The Ghanaian peacekeepers wounded are part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which serves as a buffer between Lebanese and Israeli forces.

Reports suggest the soldiers were inside their allocated outpost when the exchange of fire occurred.

It will be recalled, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, which came under two missile attacks amid ongoing clashes between the Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah.

Three Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured, and one other was left traumatised, while the Officers’ Mess was completely destroyed by fire.

GAF in an earlier statement wrote, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current ongoing IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), Lebanon came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today.

Two soldiers are critically injured, while one other has been traumatised. Additionally, the Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely. The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.

The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has protested the unfortunate incident at the United Nations’ HQ in New York and urged the parties involved in the conflict in UNIFIL to be mindful of their responsibilities regarding the safety of all peacekeepers in the theatre”.

Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has said that before Dr Mahamudu Bawumia comes to power, the NPP will need him.

According to the Gomoa Central MP, the political prospects of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, or any future presidential bid, would require broader support beyond traditional party structures.

A Plus argued that influential individuals and independent political actors play a key role in determining who eventually comes to power in Ghana.

Speaking during an interview, A Plus claimed, “There are some of us, if we are not part of your government, you will never come to power. Your foot soldiers can make all the noise, but when we decide that this person is coming to power, that is what happens.”

“I campaigned against John Mahama, but when Akufo-Addo came and was not doing what was right, I campaigned against him,” he said.

“Before Bawumia comes to power, you will need me,” he said, arguing that political strategy and influence from independent actors often determine electoral outcomes”.

Kwame A Plus further declared that he is excited that John Mahama is president again.

According to him, he wishes Mahama would be president for more than four years.

He added, “I am excited that John Mahama is President of Ghana”.

“I wish he could be President for more than four years,” A Plus said of Mahama. “It takes a lot of common sense, it takes a lot of wisdom, it takes a certain mindset to develop this country when you have just one term.”

The Gomoa Central MP further added, “Most people, in their first term, they perform. But there is no incentive to perform in their second term because they are leaving,” he said. “So it becomes the ‘galamsey period’ — let’s just chop and go.”

“I am more angry than I was before I entered politics,” he said. “Now that I am in Parliament, I know that we can build this country. We should be able to build this country. I don’t understand why this country is where it is.”

“When I see young people out there saying ‘I’m NPP, I’m NDC’, I just laugh,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the NPP flagbearer for the 2028 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will be no match if the Mahama government continue to deliver to the people of Ghana.

According to Fifi Kwetey,  in an election, the opposition doesn’t win an election, but the government loses an election.

He further cited polls at the end of 2025, which showed Dr Bawumia losing to any NDC presidential candidate.

Speaking on TV3 Hot issues, Fifi Kwetey stated, “NPP will always remain a strong party, let’s not play about it, because they will still have a core base of people through thick and thin who will follow them, it’s not a political party we are going to take for granted.

We believe that what matters is us being connected to the people of Ghana to the extent that we continue working hard and justifying…, making the people feel that we are doing a good job, Bawumia will be no match to any individual”.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey further added, “Some of the studies have already established match up between Bawumia and any of the names that are floating in the NDC. Bawumia was losing to every single one of them. That should tell you the real difference is always the party; once the party is strong and delivering whatever the NPP does. Listen, election, the opposition doesn’t really win an election, but the government loses an election”.

“So, when the government is doing well, opposition to your task is off, when the government is delivery your chances are very weak. So the NDC has to focus on making sure we deliver”.

Manasseh Azure Awuni, an investigative journalist, in an opinion article, has said Ghana is not bleeding due to the cost of the president’s travels but due to shady procurement deals.

The investigative journalist detailed that a single compromised procurement deal can cost Ghana more than the entire cost of the president’s travels over a president’s entire term in office.

Manasseh made this known while cautioning President John Mahama about the use of his brother’s private jet, which he argued raises a conflict of interest.

He told President John Dramani Mahama he has begun well in his second coming in government, but the optics don’t look good with you in your brother’s jet.

According to Manasseh Azure, John Mahama’s use of his brother Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet for official presidential travels may be well-intentioned to reduce cost, but raises conflict of interest and raises questions about his own code of conduct.

Manasseh wrote, “The nation is not bleeding because of legitimate transactions, such as the cost of the president’s travels. Ghana is on its knees because those who oversee the government procurements facilitate deals that cause us to lose hundreds of millions of cedis.

A single compromised procurement deal can cost us more than the entire cost of the president’s travels over his entire term.

Mr President, you have begun well. The optics don’t look good with you in your brother’s jet. The conflict of interest provision is clear. Your code of conduct is unambiguous.

Don’t let these things drain your goodwill. The leaks that sink mighty ships aren’t always gaping holes. Sometimes they are too small to notice until they become serious enough to seal”.

“The guidelines on conflict of interest published by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) identify three kinds of conflict of interest—actual, potential and apparent (perceived). This means a public official can be found guilty of a conflict of interest even if the conflict is not proven to have occurred.

According to CHRAJ, an actual conflict of interest occurs when a public officer’s private engagements compromise his or her judgment or objectivity in the public office.

In the context of a potential conflict of interest, the present action may not have put the public officer in a conflict of interest, but it creates the conditions for such a conflict to occur.

Here is how the third kind of conflict of interest, apparent or perceived, occurs:

Imagine applying for a mining concession or bidding for a government contract, hoping to win. Unfortunately, you lose. But the person whose company wins the deal is the businessman whose private jet the president of the republic travels on.

The ministers who supervise the procurement process are appointed by the

president and may have travelled on the private jet owned by the winner of the government contract.

Even if this businessman won the contract with a superior bid, would it be wrong to

tinker with the perception that the government is simply returning the favour done by the private jet owner?

Absolutely not.

Or consider it this way. You’re in a class with the lecturer’s girlfriend. She comes first in the lecturer’s course. She may be the most brilliant student in the class, but how many students would not think that she came first because of her relationship with the lecturer?

That is what is wrong with President John Mahama’s use of his brother Ibrahim

Mahama’s private jet for official presidential travels. The president’s spokesperson stated that the president did so to reduce costs. The alternative would have been to charter a jet for the president’s travel, since the current presidential jet is not airworthy and the new one being procured is not yet ready.

President Mahama’s move may be well-intentioned, but this is governance. He must not be seen to be signalling right and turning left, especially when the president has published a code to govern his appointees’ conduct.

That code of conduct prohibits his appointees from accepting gifts worth more than GHS20,000.

The wisdom here is that if an appointee encounters significant gift-givers in the

discharge of an official duty, his or her judgment could be impaired by the gift.

The gift of an aircraft, like the Burkinabe contractor who gifted President Mahama a vehicle in his first term, is definitely more valuable than the president’s threshold of acceptable gifts. Like the Burkinabe contractor, the president’s brother’s companies do business with the state. And it is proper that the president separates the business of the state from his private relationship with his family.

As mentioned, the president may mean well, but his code of conduct will be rendered meaningless if his appointees, like him, begin to give excuses why they cannot adhere to it.

The nation is not bleeding because of legitimate transactions, such as the cost of the president’s travels. Ghana is on its knees because those who oversee the government procurements facilitate deals that cause us to lose hundreds of millions of cedis.

A single compromised procurement deal can cost us more than the entire cost of the president’s travels over his entire term.

Mr President, you have begun well. The optics don’t look good with you in your brother’s jet. The conflict of interest provision is clear. Your code of conduct is unambiguous.

In related news, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government’s flagship Women’s Development Bank will be rolled out soon.

According to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang,  a two-day workshop has been assembled to finalise key implementation strategies for the initiative.

Speaking at the 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting of the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA), the vice president stated, “Our aim is not speed for its own sake, but sustainability and impact. We are determined to build progressively and deliver on a mandate that genuinely benefits those who have long been left in the gaps of our economic system. The women in our markets deserve nothing less”.

She wrote, “Later today, I attended the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA) End of Year Gathering and General Meeting 2026. It was an honour to be with hardworking market women whose daily efforts keep our local economies thriving. Our markets depend on the strength of the women who work in them. Peace, stability, and community resilience often start with women, and their role in sustaining families and the nation cannot be overstated.

I acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many market women operate. Our market women deserve to work with dignity, safety, and peace. Addressing these concerns has led to accelerated infrastructure development, including market revitalization projects.

I also commended the Association for adopting a theme that promotes healthy living, reflecting an understanding that economic empowerment must go hand in hand with well-being.

I reaffirmed Government’s commitment to establishing the Women’s Development Bank. A Ghanaian man has said that Ghanaian who are not able to save between GH¢3000 and GH¢4000 monthly should consider travelling abroad.

The man detailed that GH¢10,000 will be enough for a single man in Ghana, but not a married man without his wife adding up.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X by SIKAOFFICIAL, the Ghanaian man stated, “If you’re in this country and cannot save GH¢3000 to GH¢4000 monthly in Ghana, you should consider travelling abroad. If you can pay everything in a month and save GH¢3000 to GH¢4000, you are okay; you can progress in this country.

Before I saidGH¢15,000 but if you manage things and your salary is GH¢10,000, it is not bad. If you are single, GH¢10,000 is okay. You can spend GH¢6,000 and save GH¢4000”.

He further added, “But if you are a married man and you take 10,000 cedis without your wife also contributing 10,000, it is not enough. If there is a chance for you to travel abroad, I will tell you to take it.

Marriage also takes a lot from Ghanaian boys. There are a lot of red flags in a relationship that people must know. If you are going to take a lady abroad, when you are in a relationship in Ghana, you will know if the lady is good or not, so when you get abroad, you do not need to bring her along”.

Ghanaians reacting to the man’s remarks stated, “Where’s Abrokyire? Why do we allow this nonsense and misinformation to fester? When they speak of abroad, which country is he referring to exactly? Before, among our people, it used to be Western Europe and Northern America. Now the Middle East is in the play in recent times. Is that the mindset he’s speaking with? Forgetting that any other country apart from your native country is abroad, and therefore Togo is also abroad”.

Another netizen added, “He speaks as if it’s rosy for all Ghanaians who travel. I don’t think anybody is against travelling to work and making some good money out there, given the opportunity, but painting a general picture which might not be possible for some is unrealistic.

Of course, some make more than that, and others also wish they had never gone”.

“I just love how he put it, he said, ‘abrokyire setti ah, ‘ meaning don’t put high hopes in wanting to travel, but if the opportunity presents itself. Take hold of it and travel”, a netizen added.

A netizen added, “Think of something better, like entrepreneurship, or some wonderful initiative for the youth!

Abroad where? In the countries where rent alone is $1500–2500/month, and you need $10k–20k+ just to show proof of funds, how is someone who can’t save GH¢3000 here suddenly going to save 5–10× more there? Math no dey add up o”.

“If the opportunity presents itself, why not?

But if you don’t get the opportunity, don’t force it, as it gets difficult living abroad without proper prep and documentation. You’re just gonna struggle to settle in, no matter the country you find yourself in”, a netizen added.

Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, a Ghanaian actor, has revealed that he has been fathering a child for ten years, who is not his.

According to Lilwin, a recent DNA test shows he is not the biological father of that child.

Lilwin, speaking during a TikTok Live session, revealed this, adding that he did not react with anger, urging other parents not to react angrily if a DNA test reveals that a child they have been raising is not theirs.

Lilwin stated, “There is one child among my children whom I have fathered for about 10 years, but the child is not mine. I have many children, but one of them isn’t mine. Recently, when we went to check and I realised the child wasn’t mine, I didn’t get angry or anything”.

“The DNA issue is a true story that happened to me, and I want to tell everyone that if the same thing happens to you, don’t get angry about it because, at the end of the day, in one way or another, we still take care of other people’s children,” he noted.

“The truth is that from the beginning, I suspected the child wasn’t mine, but I took it normally. I even run a school where I take care of other people’s children and support widows as well. The only issue I have is when a woman knows a child is not for a particular man, that man is taking care of the child, and she still wants to disturb him,” he added.

In related news, Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus, has announced plans to lay a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to criminalise paternity fraud.

The Private Member’s Bill is proposing jail terms for women who knowingly mislead men into raising children who are not biologically theirs, and possibly introducing mandatory DNA testing after birth.

Kwame A Plus, speaking on United Showbiz, explained what he sought to achieve with the bill, saying, “Any child that is born needs to know his father and mother. I know of a man who has birthed 5 children. He is now 70 years just recently learned that four of the children are not his, just one was his.

I know of someone also, who was taking his children abroad, when they went for a DNA test, the woman went to the lawyers and said she was not going to do any DNA test, and she disclosed that the children are not the man’s. The man was abroad, thinking he had four children here and was spending on them”.

He added, “Yesterday I heard Kofi Bentil say when the law is passed, it means we are going to crimalised adultry as a crime, we are not trying to prevent anyone from cheating in their marriage or in a relationship.

The bill we are taking to parliament, we are not thinking about it now; it is already drafted, and we are going to present it”.

Also, a netizen identified as Abena Manokekame, who shared the news, stated, “A Plus (MP for Gomoa Central) is planning to bring a new law to Parliament to make paternity fraud a crime.

In simple terms, he wants women who knowingly lie about who a child’s real father is and make a man raise a child that isn’t his to face jail time.

He’s also suggesting that DNA tests could become mandatory after birth, so the real father is always known from the start.

Let me go and dust my markers and papers. It’s time to start making some noise”.

Gov’t declares Friday, 20th March and Monday, 23rd March, 2026 as Public Holidays

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Interior, has announced that Friday, March 20 and Monday, 23rd March, 2026, are statutory public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr and Shaqq Day celebrations.

The Interior Ministry announced that Monday, March 23, will be a statutory holiday; Shaqq Days fall on a weekend.

They explained that since March 21 falls on a Saturday, President John Dramani Mahama has issued an Executive Instrument declaring Monday, March 23, as a public holiday across the country.

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in a press release, stated, “The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 20th March and Saturday, 21st March 2026, mark Eid-Ul-Fitr and Shaqq Days, which are Statutory Public Holidays.

However, in view of the fact that 21st March 2026 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument (E.I),

In accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, declared Monday, 23rd March 2026, as Additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.

Relief for Ghanaians as PURC cut electricity and water tariffs by 4.81% and 3.06% respectively, starting April 1

Ghanaian households will get a bit of relief after the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced a reduction in electricity and water tariffs effective from April 1, 2026.

According to the PURC, its quarterly tariff review will reduce electricity tariffs by an average of 4.81 per cent, while water tariffs will be reduced by 3.06 per cent.

The PURC highlighted that the review was conducted in line with its mandate to adjust tariffs every quarter.

In a statement issued on Friday, March 13, the PURC stated, “The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) wishes to inform consumers of electricity and water that the existing electricity and water tariffs have been reviewed downwards to take effect from April 01, 2026”.

“The Commission applied a projected Weighted Average Ghana Cedi-US Dollar Exchange Rate of GHS11.1931/US$1.0000 for the second Quarter of 2026. This projected exchange rate is based on a 3- month Actual Inter-Bank Average Ghana Cedi-US Dollar Selling Exchange Rate for the period December 01, 2025, to February 28, 2026. This indicates a 6.78% reduction from the last Quarter rate of GHS12.0067/ US$1.0000,” the statement said.

In related news, The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test meters following public complaints.

According to the ECG, they have taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders in terms of metering and billing systems.

The ECG disclosed that all electricity meters deployed by them undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy; however disclosed that customers may have genuine concerns.

The statement added that in the spirit of transparency and accountability, they have requested the GSA to randomly test meters, and their findings will be compiled in a report to the Minister.

In a statement, ECG’s Director of Communications, William Boateng, read, “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders regarding our metering and billing systems.

We wish to assure the general public that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy. Our quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards. ECG’s meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide. In addition, all ECG meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for compliance with approved standards before deployment”.

The statement added, “While ECG remains confident in the accuracy and reliability of its meters, we acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns. In line with the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition’s directive, ECG is fully committed to investigating all complaints. These investigations have already commenced.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability. ECG has once again formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test our meters in the laboratory and in the field. GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s report to the Honourable Minister”.

Rev Ankrah, the spokesperson for the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, has told the family of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba that they must perform traditional rites to pacify the gods of the Ga Dangme land.

According to the Ga Dangme leaders, it is dirty to have dead bodies come closer to their deities.

Rev Ankrah further explained that the laws of Ghana and Ga Adangbe don’t allow Daddy Lumba to be buried at home, adding that Lumba’s family must pacify the gods.

Beyond the spiritual concerns, he further cited that burying a body in a residential environment could raise potential health and environmental issues.

Speaking on March 12, 2026, in a video shared on X, Rev Ankrah explained, “It is dirty to have dead bodies coming closer to our deities, and the spirits around us do not permit that. If you do that, you have to pacify not just the land but the deities and traditional leadership that have control over the territory where this body has been buried”.

“We will extend invitation to the same family. Whether they have a family head or not, they appear here. If the body is removed from the soil, they would still have to pacify the deities of the land and the community. And then answer questions that we are going to put to them,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Overlord of GaDangme has summoned the family head of the late Daddy Lumba, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac. 

According to the Ga chiefs, Abusuapanyin Tupac has been summoned in connection with reports and confirmation by Lumba’s family head that the late singer was laid to rest in his private residence in East Legon.

On March 10, 2026, in a letter, the office of Gborbu Wulomo-Shitsɛ, Nungua traditional area, directed Abusuapanyin Tupac to appear before Wor Lumor Konor Nuumo Borkete Laweh Tsuru at the palace in Nungua on March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am.

Parts of the letter read, “This summons arises in connection with reports and public concerns regarding the alleged burial of the late Charles Kojo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) at his private residence located in East Legon, Accra,” part of the statement read.

“As the Family Head (Abusuapanyin) of the late Charles Kojo Fosu, your presence is required to provide the necessary explanation and engagement on the matter in accordance with customary protocols and to assist in addressing the concerns raised”.

“Your cooperation in this matter is highly expected in the interest of maintaining harmony, respect for tradition, and peaceful resolution of the issues raised. Kindly treat this summons with the urgency and respect it deserves,” the statement further indicated.

The development follows Abusuapanyin Tupac, who has said people claiming they do not know where the late musician was buried are telling lies.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, people are claiming ignorance about the burial site when they choose not to attend the singer’s funeral.

Abusuapanyin Tupac further confirmed earlier claims by Afia Schwarzenegger, who stated Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon, Accra.

He detailed that Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon in accordance with his dying wish.

Speaking in an interview with Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Abusuapanyin Tupac questioned, “If you chose not to attend the funeral because you were upset about the court’s verdict, how can you now claim you don’t know where Daddy Lumba was buried? You can’t skip the funeral and expect to know the burial site.

They are lucky that Afia Schwarzenegger made the location of Lumba’s burial known publicly, so saying you don’t know where he was buried is a lie,” he said.

In recent development, an elderly woman in the Ekuorna family has claimed that they have removed Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, as the family head.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, has tackled Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, over his claims that Ghana only pays for fuel for the Dzata jet when President John Mahama uses it for presidential travels.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that President John Mahama does not rent the Dzata jet owned by his brother Ibrahim Mahama.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama only pays for fuel when he uses the Dzata jet for official travel.

He detailed that Dzata jet remains the property of Ibrahim Mahama, with Ghana only having to pay operational expenses such as fuel and landing charges when the president uses it for trips.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, March 12,  Kwakye Ofosu explained, “The President does not rent the aircraft; he only fuels it. The aircraft belongs to somebody, so the owner retains the services of the pilot and other personnel who work on it”.

“When the President rents an aircraft, apart from paying the rent, he would also have to cover fuel and all the costs associated with maintaining that aircraft during the time he is using it. By not doing so, the President is saving public funds,” he explained.

However, according to Miracles Aboagye Felix Kwakye Ofosu, claims are an absolute lie.

He detailed that the bare minimum, every time one flies a private jet out of Ghana, would incur fuel, Landing fees, handling / Ramp Fees, crew costs, overnight accommodation and expenses for pilots and other charges.  

Miracles Aboagye added that if Kwakye Ofosu insist that Ghana only pay for fuel, it is even more problematic because the minister is telling Ghanaians that the President’s brother bears all other charges, questioning what the motive behind it would be.

In a post on X, Miracles Aboagye wrote, “Felix, Chale don’t do this…

You know this is an absolute lie, but you have said it. Months from now, the truth comes out, then you will come back with another spin. Don’t treat the whole country like some zoo.  Not fair to the senses of the citizens.

You know so well, FUEL isn’t the only cost that comes with moving a private jet, so why place a spin on such a bare fact?

At the barest minimum, every time you fly the private jet out of Ghana, these would be the basic costs you would incur

1. fuel

2. Landing fees

3. Handling / Ramp Fees

4. Crew Costs: Overnight accommodation and expenses for pilots.

5. Other charges

So it is not true if you say it’s only the fuel cost the state bears. Now, if you insist it is just fuel, then that is even more problematic. Because then what you are telling the country is that the President’s brother bears the cost of all the charges, some of which are charged per hour for every travel the President makes. WHAT WOULD BE HIS MOTIVATION!!!!

Personally, I don’t really care if the President uses his own private jet to travel as long as he moves safely. Honestly, but for your party’s own hypocrisy,  deceptive nature and commentary about presidential travels in the past, how would this even be a subject? So if you have to swallow your own medicine, pls do it with grace and don’t insult everyone’s intelligence.

Bro, don’t do that, it takes more than just fuel to move a private jet from one airport to the other, even if you are not charged for the plane itself”.

19-year-old pregnant woman loses unborn baby after being hit with a stray bullet

A 19-year-old pregnant woman is battling for her life after she was hit by a stray bullet during a burial rite.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Hiawu Besease in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti region.

The victim has been identified as Alice Serwaa and has been reported to have been shot in her abdomen on Thursday night.

The information gathered suggests she was hit by a stray bullet during the final funeral rites of a late queen mother in the community.

Alice Serwaa is now battling for her life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Her unborn baby, according to reports, sadly did not survive after the bullet struck the fetus, resulting in a stillbirth.

Nana Osei Tutu, the Assembly member for the area, confirmed the news, adding that another girl was also reportedly hit in the eye.

Report by Joy News detailed, “He explained that the local chief had arrived in the community with a group of heavily built men believed to be acting as enforcers to maintain order during the burial rites of his late mother.

According to him, tensions escalated after some local youth resisted attempts to enforce a directive requiring residents to remain indoors as part of the royal funeral observances.

Nana Osei Tutu alleged that during the confrontation, some residents were assaulted and gunshots were fired in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Amid the chaos, Alice Serwaa, who was standing in front of her home, was struck by a stray bullet”.

Reports suggest Alice Serwaa was initially rushed to a nearby CHPS compound, where health workers provided emergency treatment before she was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

In related firearms news, Dr Adam Bonaa, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, has revealed thousands of illegal firearms and ammunition surrendered nationwide.

According to him, the Gun amnesty has yielded significant results, with more weapons expected to be recovered before the deadline of January 15, 2026.

Dr Bonaa disclosed that the firearms that have been surrendered include sidearms, pump-action shotguns, single and double-barrel guns, AK-47s, M16 rifles and G-series weapons.

Speaking on Joy News on Monday, December 29, Dr Bonaa stated, “With just 15 days to the deadline, a number of these weapons have been surrendered, and there are more to recover”

“Within this period, importation of arms has ceased, importation of ammunition has ceased, and the sale of guns and ammunition has ceased,” he said.

He further noted that the declaration also prohibits the firing of weapons throughout the amnesty window.

Also, Dr Adam Bonaa has urged all Ghanaians to return all stolen and unlicensed weapons.

According to Dr Adam Bonaa, irrespective of whether the gun was stolen, unlicensed or found, individuals who voluntarily surrender their weapons will not be arrested or interrogated.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement visit to the National Mosque on December 26, 2025, Dr Adam Bonaa stated, “No one is going to arrest you. You are not going to be prosecuted. There will be no interrogation. Even if it is a gun you stole from the police, surrender it and there will be no arrest”.

“The Chief Imam is one of the strongest pillars of peace in this country.

“He does not encourage violence or disorder, and that is why we are engaging religious leaders to help us spread this message,” he added.

“Ghana cannot be peaceful if guns remain in the hands of civilians. If we fail to address this, what is happening in other countries can also happen here,” he warned.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that its recent administrative circular does not prevent teachers from demonstrating.

According to the GES, their internal circular on administrative procedures does not attempt to silence teachers.

The GES clarified that Teachers are free to express their views or concerns, which include the right to peaceful demonstrations.

In a statement on Friday, March 13, 2026, the GES clarified, “DIRECTIVE TO RESPECT ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES WITHIN THE SERVICE

1. Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken note of the public discussions following the internal circular titled “Management Reinforces Respect for Administrative Structures and Professional Conduct”, referenced GES/DD-G/Q&A/26/134, which was addressed to all Regional Directors of Education.

2. Management wishes to clarify that the circular does not in any way prohibit teachers from expressing their views or concerns, nor does it seek to undermine their constitutional rights, including demonstrations.

3. Teachers, like all citizens, are entitled to lawful expression, including engaging their unions and participating in legitimate advocacy.

4. The purpose of the directive is simply to re-emphasise the long-standing administrative structure of the Service, which has guided the operations of the GES for decades.

5. Under this established process, concerns originating at the school level are first addressed by the Head of School. Where necessary, such matters are escalated to the District Directorate, then to the Regional Directorate, and subsequently to the Headquarters.

6. This structure exists to ensure that issues are handled efficiently, fairly, and with the appropriate context at each level of the Service.

7. Management assures all staff of the Service, Unions and other Stakeholders that ongoing efforts to resolve matters relating to arrears, salaries and recruitment are being treated with urgency. Updates will be communicated in the coming days.

8. In this light, Management calls for calm and continued professionalism across the Service, while constructive engagements through the appropriate channels remain encouraged”.

The GES clarification follows an earlier statement that warned teachers not to leave their classrooms to demonstrate, visit the headquarters in Accra, or speak to the media with their concerns during school hours.

According to the GES, Teachers who have concerns should follow the proper process by reporting to their Heads of School, then the District and Regional Directorates if necessary.

The GES further added that any teacher found absent from duty or appearing in media interviews during a protest school hours could face disciplinary action.

In a directive dated March 9, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES stated, “Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has observed a growing trend in which some teachers, particularly newly recruited staff, frequently besiege the Headquarters, form unrecognised splinter groups, or engage the media regarding their concerns”.

“These actions often occur during official school hours, with teachers leaving their duty posts without recourse to their Heads of School, District Directorates, or Regional Directorates.”

“The teaching profession is a noble one governed by a Code of Conduct. Every member of staff is mandated to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in strict compliance with this Code,” the statement added.

The GES statement further added, “Teachers with concerns regarding any issue are required to first lodge such concerns with their Heads of School, and subsequently escalate them through the District and Regional Directorates, as appropriate”.

“Any teacher who leaves their duty post and is found at the Headquarters or elsewhere during official school hours, or who is captured on video or audio granting media interviews or participating in related activities during such hours, shall be treated under ‘Absence from Duty’ as stipulated in the Code of Conduct,” the directive stressed.

“District Directors and Heads of School must record any instance of teacher absenteeism and report it to Management,” the statement said.

However, the GES assured teachers that their concerns would be addressed through the right channels.

“Management assures all staff that their welfare remains a priority and reiterates its firm commitment to addressing legitimate concerns through due process and structured engagement,” it stated.

Ghanaian man pleads guilty in U.S. court for stealing over $10m through romance scams

The United States Attorney’s Office has announced that a Ghanaian man identified as Derrick “Van” Yeboah has pleaded guilty in a U.S. court to stealing over $10 million from U.S. victims through romance scams and business email compromise schemes.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Derrick “Van” Yeboah was part of a Ghana-based criminal organisation that collectively defrauded victims of more than $100 million.

They further detailed that Derrick “Van” Yeboah was extradited to the United States in August 2025.

Reports suggest that the United States is working closely with the Government of Ghana and other international partners to investigate and prosecute cyber and transnational criminals perpetrating crimes against Americans.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in a press release detailed, “United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, announced the guilty plea of DERRICK VAN YEBOAH, a/k/a “Van,” for his role in an international criminal organization that stole more than $100 million from victims via romance scams and business email compromises.  VAN YEBOAH pled guilty today to conspiracy to commit wire fraud before U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian.

“Derrick Van Yeboah pled guilty today to a massive criminal scheme targeting elderly men and women in online romance scams,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.  “Many New Yorkers search for companionship online, and no one deserves to have their vulnerability met with fraud and theft.  Van Yeboah cruelly exploited those vulnerabilities for over $10 million in illicit profit.  Today’s plea is a reminder to be vigilant online—especially on dating websites, never give money to someone you just met—and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

According to the charging documents and statements made in public filings and public court proceedings:

VAN YEBOAH was a member of a criminal organization primarily based in Ghana that committed romance scams and business email compromises against individuals and businesses located across the United States.  Many of the conspiracy’s victims were vulnerable older men and women who were tricked into believing that they were in online romantic relationships with persons who were, in fact, fake identities assumed by members of the conspiracy.  Once members of the conspiracy had gained the trust of their victims, they deceived those victims into sending their money to the enterprise or into helping them launder funds from other victims.  The conspirators also committed business email compromises to trick and deceive businesses into wiring funds to the enterprise.  In total, the conspiracy stole and laundered more than $100 million from dozens of victims.  After stealing the money, the fraud proceeds were then laundered to West Africa.

VAN YEBOAH personally perpetrated many of the romance scams by impersonating fake romantic partners in communications with victims.  He is being held responsible for more than $10 million he stole from victims via his romance scams.

VAN YEBOAH, 40, of Ghana, pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.  VAN YEBOAH also agreed to make restitution and pay forfeiture, both in the amount of $10,149,429.17.

The maximum potential sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the judge.   VAN YEBOAH is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Subramanian on June 3, 2026.

Mr Clayton praised the outstanding work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  He also thanked Ghana and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs for their assistance.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Mead and Mitzi Steiner are in charge of the prosecution”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “Thank you for the good work. Kindly reciprocate and help bring Ofori Atta, currently in the U.S., who has misused millions of Ghanaians’ hard-earned money through taxes and avoiding accountability under the law. The $10 million is chicken change compared to the amount involved with Ofori Atta. Also, hope the victims in this scam find some closure with this arrest”.

“I see you guys are happy, well, a mutual understanding should exist between both countries to exchange criminals, not the one-sided way it currently looks like. Where is our KEN Ofori-Atta?”, another Ghanaian added.

Manasseh Azure Awuni, an investigative journalist, in an opinion article, has told President John Dramani Mahama he has begun well in his second coming in government, but the optics don’t look good with you in your brother’s jet.

According to Manasseh Azure, John Mahama’s use of his brother Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet for official presidential travels may be well-intentioned to reduce cost, but raises conflict of interest and raises questions about his own code of conduct.

He further detailed that Ghana is not bleeding because of legitimate transactions, the cost of the president’s travels, but because those who oversee the government procurements facilitate deals that cause the country to lose hundreds of millions of cedis.

Manasseh Azure Awuni detailed that a single compromised procurement deal can cost us more than the entire cost of the president’s travels.

In an opinion written by Manasseh Azure, read, “The guidelines on conflict of interest published by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) identify three kinds of conflict of interest—actual, potential and apparent (perceived). This means a public official can be found guilty of a conflict of interest even if the conflict is not proven to have occurred.

According to CHRAJ, an actual conflict of interest occurs when a public officer’s private engagements compromise his or her judgment or objectivity in the public office.

In the context of a potential conflict of interest, the present action may not have put the public officer in a conflict of interest, but it creates the conditions for such a conflict to occur.

Here is how the third kind of conflict of interest, apparent or perceived, occurs:

Imagine applying for a mining concession or bidding for a government contract, hoping to win. Unfortunately, you lose. But the person whose company wins the deal is the businessman whose private jet the president of the republic travels on.

The ministers who supervise the procurement process are appointed by the

president and may have travelled on the private jet owned by the winner of the government contract.

Even if this businessman won the contract with a superior bid, would it be wrong to

tinker with the perception that the government is simply returning the favour done by the private jet owner?

Absolutely not.

Or consider it this way. You’re in a class with the lecturer’s girlfriend. She comes first in the lecturer’s course. She may be the most brilliant student in the class, but how many students would not think that she came first because of her relationship with the lecturer?

That is what is wrong with President John Mahama’s use of his brother Ibrahim

Mahama’s private jet for official presidential travels. The president’s spokesperson stated that the president did so to reduce costs. The alternative would have been to charter a jet for the president’s travel, since the current presidential jet is not airworthy and the new one being procured is not yet ready.

President Mahama’s move may be well-intentioned, but this is governance. He must not be seen to be signalling right and turning left, especially when the president has published a code to govern his appointees’ conduct.

That code of conduct prohibits his appointees from accepting gifts worth more than GHS20,000.

The wisdom here is that if an appointee encounters significant gift-givers in the

discharge of an official duty, his or her judgment could be impaired by the gift.

The gift of an aircraft, like the Burkinabe contractor who gifted President Mahama a vehicle in his first term, is definitely more valuable than the president’s threshold of acceptable gifts. Like the Burkinabe contractor, the president’s brother’s companies do business with the state. And it is proper that the president separates the business of the state from his private relationship with his family.

As mentioned, the president may mean well, but his code of conduct will be rendered meaningless if his appointees, like him, begin to give excuses why they cannot adhere to it.

The nation is not bleeding because of legitimate transactions, such as the cost of the president’s travels. Ghana is on its knees because those who oversee the government procurements facilitate deals that cause us to lose hundreds of millions of cedis.

A single compromised procurement deal can cost us more than the entire cost of the president’s travels over his entire term.

Mr President, you have begun well. The optics don’t look good with you in your brother’s jet. The conflict of interest provision is clear. Your code of conduct is unambiguous.

Don’t let these things drain your goodwill. The leaks that sink mighty ships aren’t always gaping holes. Sometimes they are too small to notice until they become serious enough to seal”, Manasseh Azure concluded.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has explained that President John Mahama does not rent the Dzata jet owned by his brother Ibrahim Mahama.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama only pays for fuel when he uses the Dzata jet for official travel.

He detailed that Dzata jet remains the property of Ibrahim Mahama, with Ghana only having to pay operational expenses such as fuel and landing charges when the president uses it for trips.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, March 12,  Kwakye Ofosu explained, “The President does not rent the aircraft; he only fuels it. The aircraft belongs to somebody, so the owner retains the services of the pilot and other personnel who work on it”.

“When the President rents an aircraft, apart from paying the rent, he would also have to cover fuel and all the costs associated with maintaining that aircraft during the time he is using it. By not doing so, the President is saving public funds,” he explained.

Also, in a separate interview, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has said Ghana’s presidential jet is deemed unreliable by the Ghana Air Force.

According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the military has advised President Mahama against the use of Ghana’s presidential jet for presidential travel due to security concerns and frequent technical faults.

He further defended President John Dramani Mahama’s use of his brother’s private jet.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye detailed that Ghana has a deficit in terms of its ability to ferry the president, adding that Mahama prefers to use his brother’s aircraft, which he was using pending the arrival of the arrangement the state has made, rather than going to take taxpayers’ money to rent an aircraft.

He further quizzed how saving the country money becomes a problem for anybody.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye further disclosed that the Air Force has raised security concerns over the frequent breakdown of the Ghana Presidential jet.

Speaking on Top Story on Joy FM on Thursday, March 12, Felix Ofosu Kwakye explained, “The state of Ghana has a deficit in terms of its ability to ferry the president,” Mr Kwakye said, noting that “Before he became president, his brother had an aircraft that he was using. It is a fact well known to everybody.”

“The president says that rather than going to take taxpayers’ money to rent an aircraft, let me continue using that aircraft that I was using pending the arrival of the arrangement the state has made,” he stated.

“So I ask the question: how does saving the country money become a problem for anybody?” he asked.

He further added, “If it were the case that the state had an aircraft that was functioning and the president disregarded that and hopped into his brother’s aircraft and paid for it, in other words, rented it at a cost to the state, then there would be a legitimate basis to raise complaints of conflict of interest and profiteering by his brother”.

“The Air Force itself has said that because of security concerns and the frequent breakdown, they won’t recommend it be used for the president,” he said.

“They have indicated that its operations have proved unreliable and that it costs too much to maintain because the slightest movement requires repairs. Until then, the president says, ‘Let me use this arrangement that does not impose significant cost on the state pending the arrival of the aircraft,’” he explained.

“So it is not a permanent arrangement in any event. It is only because the state is constrained by the non-availability of a reliable aircraft.”

However, President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to tell Ghanaians why he continues to use his brother’s private jet for official state trips.

According to him, Mahama, using his brother’s private jet, sends conflicting signals about the government’s stance on public sector discipline.

Franklin Cudjoe explained that President Mahama must provide justification if he chooses to travel on a private jet, especially after his directives asking government appointees to limit travel unless there is a clear economic justification.

In a social media post on March 12, 2026, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “Mr President, with due respect,  you cannot be asking your appointees not to travel without providing economic justification, and then you jump on your brother’s plane without providing us reasons why you think it is the only safe, available and cheaper airline.

You recently flew commercial, and your communications team happily shared videos. We all applauded.

Seriously, this sends conflicting signals about your own fidelity to the public code of conduct for public office. This is the second time I have heard about using Mr Ibrahim Mahama’s plane, and you may be earning back your own “dead goat” syndrome, which was last rejected by many. Please stop”.

His comments follow President Mahama, who is currently on a state visit to South Korea and was again seen using Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet, which bears the inscription “Dzata”.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Ghanaians and party members to exercise patience as President John Mahama works to provide opportunities for everyone.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the anger being displayed by Ghanaian youths over the low intake of applicants in Ghana’s security services will not solve anything.

The NDC Chairman detailed that the first priority is to strengthen the economy, which will create more employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Asiedu Nketiah stated, “The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this.

“We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” he said.

He added, “Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all.”

Also, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told the party’s grassroots that their patience will be vindicated soon.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is confident that the NDC’s challenges are temporary.

He further called on the NDC grassroots to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party, despite individual actions, adding that party officers are taking note of every situation and will give them serious consideration.

Mustapha Gbande also alleged that pro-NPP accounts are exploiting NDC grassroots frustrations.

According to Mustapha Gbande, most accounts expressing disappointment with the John Mahama-led government and appointees are pro-NPP accounts asserting that some actions of NDC appointees may deviate from party resolve but called on members not to abandon the party, as the pain and struggles shared keep them up at night.

Meanwhile, Anita Desoso, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has threatened to lead a demonstration against her own party leadership and government if things do not change.

According to Anita Desoso, NDC party members are being unfairly treated after toiling to regain power.

Anita Desoso cried out that the party’s faithful are not being given job opportunities in the government, while outsiders are getting positions.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “You go for a meeting, and I wasn’t present, and you dare give a big woman like me GH¢500. Recently, they had another meeting, which I wasn’t able to attend. They called me, and they gave me GH¢1,400. Which means that since we came about 2 years ago, Anita Desoso is now getting GH¢1,900. Is it fair?

“Look at how we have suffered. Is it fair? I’m not only speaking for myself. People have asked me to speak on their behalf, and I’m adding my own frustration. Let’s assume that you are working on catching people who have stolen from the state, which is necessary but has taken too long,” she said.

She added, “We have been in government for over one year. How many years do we have left? If we don’t take care of our home, would the children listen to us if we go back to them? They would not. So, I’m using this media to let leaders know that they must change, otherwise I will lead a demonstration.”

ALARM BLOWS – ‘Sukudai’ cocktail causes severe kidney and liver damage as Lab tests kill rats in 24 hours

The Department of Pharmacology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) acute toxicity test conducted revealed that the ‘Sukudai’ cocktail is toxic as it contains acetone, zinc chloride, and ethanol.

The Madara Sukudai cocktail has endeared itself to many Ghanaians, especially some Ghanaian youth, over claims that it contains heart-cleansing potency by patrons of the drink.

According to reports, Madara Sukudai is commonly sold in Zongos and auto mechanic shops, mostly sold by some Nigerien nationals and by some Ghanaians.

However, preliminary investigations by the Department of Pharmacology at the KNUST have detailed that the ‘Madara Sukudai’ contains substances harmful to human health.

According to the Department of Pharmacology at the KNUST, all laboratory rats given some doses of the concoction used to produce the drink died within 24 hours.

Speaking to JoyNews, the Head of the Department of Pharmacology at KNUST, Professor Cynthia Amaning Danquah stated, “We used rats for this experiment and we gave different doses from low to medium and then high doses of the product to the group of rats in each cage and within 24 hours all the rats died and we usually look at their behaviour etc but before we could say jack all the rats had died and initially we put some of the samples in universal bottles which are usually plastic and they all melted and then just a spill off of the product also melted the takeaway containers,”

Reports suggest the mixture was so aggressive that it even melted plastic takeaway bowls and universal bottles.

Professor Danquah added, “Preliminary tests show that the product contains organic solvents like acetone, zinc chloride, and ethanol. Just to give a fair idea to the layman, acetone is usually found in the nail polish that women use for acrylic nails, so we don’t take it. Then, zinc chloride is also corrosive in terms of organic solvents and other things. So it can cause gastric irritation if taken, so it immediately tells you that this is not something that should even be consumed. So, right on the surface value, this is not something that should be consumed. It is corrosive, and it will cause GI (gastrointestinal) irritation and can result in serious damage to the liver and the kidneys, so to learn that people are consuming this is a great concern to us,” she said.

“Some of these things take time, like chronic disease studies, you should do at least one to three months. I mean, and to be sure of what is actually happening, because as I said we’ll take out the organs and then do further biochemical tests, measure the liver enzymes and look at all the cells under the microscope, do some haematology, etc., and so we’ll just advise that people stay away from it.”

Ashanti Regional Deputy Security Coordinator Alhaji Njeh Abdallah Umar, who led the operation to arrest the trader at Aboabo, also revealed that sellers reportedly refuse to drink it themselves when challenged.

He said, “What has been given to a rodent in less than 24 hours has died. You don’t know who is consuming it, but they are Ghanaians. And the most interesting aspect is that those selling it, when you tell them to drink it, they will not.

Even if you force them, they are not going to drink it. And it has been in the system for many years. When I was young, I saw them selling it in town.

So we know what is happening now. Our health issues, internal organs, the kidneys, the liver and other organs, as far as the health issues are concerned. So it means we have to rise up and fight it.”

Also, a consultant nephrologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Professor Elliot Koranteng Tannor, raised an alarm on Sukudai being labelled as a ‘heart cleansing’.

Professor Elliot Koranteng Tannor stated, “These things are not things that you hope, especially the zinc chloride and then the acetone that you would want to take into your body. But my thinking is that it gives them some burning sensation in their chest. And that is what they are calling “cleansing their chests”, which I’m afraid, because of how corrosive the zinc chloride is, it might end up messing with or affecting their gut, and not that alone.”

“If it is absorbed into their body, then there’s a tendency it can affect their liver and their kidney. But from the research that was done, it is clear that most likely if they take it in toxic amounts, they might not live long enough for us to even see its effect on their kidney and liver and so on and so forth, because of the nature of what they are taking.

“This calls for an interest in trying to understand what is going on. And I think from the interactions we have had, it is even possible that comparing the dosage from street to street might not be the same. So far, we know the one that you saw is discontent.

What if somebody else is adding something else to make it more potent, which might end up causing more harm than even we saw with this lab rat? And I think that is what makes it a public health issue for us to address.”

Meanwhile, the reports suggest the National Security has launched a special operation to rid the streets of Kumasi of a popular toxic cocktail sold as a ‘heart cleanser.’

“The leader of the NDC, the incoming flagbearer. He speaks for the NDC, and what he is saying is basically the plan of the NDC; they plan to push more youth into armed robbery”, a netizen added.

“This was a joke made! And you should know that dealing with thieves is just a tiny part of the police service job. They do more than just go after thieves”, a netizen added.

In related news, the Adentan Member of Parliament (MP), Ramadan Adamu Mohammed, has lamented about the current agitations by NDC grassroots members over their mass disqualification from the security services recruitment.

According to Ramadan Adamu Mohammed, during the NPP’s tenure, all MPs had to do was just submit a list of interested persons who wanted to join the security services, and they would jump the process to the medical before you know it, and they are already in uniforms.

Ramadan Adamu Mohammed further lamented that under the NDC, unfortunately, the party likes to follow the rules too much.

Speaking to some members of NDC in the Adenta constituency, Ramadan Adamu Mohammed stated, “This recruitment, during the NPP’s tenure, all they would ask was to bring the interested person’s name for recruitment.

The person will not have to go through the process; the person will jump straight to the medicals. By the time you know the person, they are already wearing the uniform. Unfortunately, it’s like we, the NDC, are following the rules too much. Today, when I got here, a lot of people have complained to me. Our people who have worked for the party must see the reward on earth before they go to heaven”.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has called on the Interior Ministry to refund approximately GH¢113 million collected from applicants who failed to qualify in the ongoing security recruitment exercise.

 Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, accused the John Mahama government of exploiting Ghanaian applicants and called for an investigation.

According to Ntim Fordjour, the Interior Ministry knew they were recruiting only 5,000, but lured half a million people just to milk applicants of GH¢113 million.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, stated, “Already, we have a national security threat and unemployment on our hands. You promised them jobs. You didn’t add any conditions”.

“Then you turn around, you politically expand the age limit from twenty-five to thirty-five, signalling that there is more room and more access, more financial clearance, which was a lie”.

“You knew from the very beginning you were recruiting only 5,000, and yet you did all this to lure half a million people, took their money, milked them GH¢113 million cedis and over, only to turn around yesterday, after you have knocked them out by technology and internet disruptions from the aptitude test,” he said.

Telecel Ghana partners gov’t to train 100,000 youths for free under One Million Coders – CEO

Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telecel Ghana, has revealed that the company has partnered with the government to provide free coding training to 100,000 young Ghanaians.

According to the Telecel CEO, they have partnered with the Government’s under One Million Coders Programme.

She disclosed that the coding training course normally costs US$50 to obtain a certificate, but Telecel will sponsor all participants for free.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, 12th March, Telecel Ghana CEO stated, “We are partnering with the government on the One Million Coders. We are training 100,000 for free, as our contribution.”

“If you were going to pay for it, it is US$50 per license, but our platform, in partnership with Start Your Code, is about a five-million-dollar contribution that we will be putting into society,” she said.

“So, carrying your Telecel SIM is not just about enjoying data and voice services, but it is also your opportunity to give back to society through our brand,” the CEO added.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama, at the launch of the  “One Million Coders” program, described it as more than a fulfilled campaign promise.

According to him, it is a strategic pillar for the reset Ghana agenda.

Speaking at the launch of the programme on April 16, 2025, John Mahama, “The One Million Coders program is not just a fulfilled campaign promise. It is a strategic pillar of our Reset Ghana agenda. Designed to empower Ghanaians with digital skills critical for 21st-century life and work.

“It is an intentional move towards building a knowledge-based innovation-driven economy, one where our greatest resource, our people, are equipped to create solutions, generate jobs, and be able to compete globally. At the heart of this initiative is our belief in the Ghanaian youth. We believe in your creativity, your resilience, and your boundless potential. This program is an investment in our youth, investment in their future as coders, as analysts, as entrepreneurs, and as tech pioneers,” he added.

“Over the next four years, the One Million Coders program will train one million Ghanaians in essential digital skills, from coding and cybersecurity to data analytics and networking. These are not just technical abilities. They are economic passports, pathways to decent jobs, entrepreneurship, and long-term socio-economic inclusion,” he added.

Also, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Opoku Ansah, has blown an alarm on an alleged chop-chop under the John Mahama government’s One Million Coders Programme.

According to Davis Opoku, the government is overpricing laptops under the One Million Coders Programme, with each unit costing ₵14,000.

Davis Opoku highlighted that a high-end computer that should be used for coding should not cost more than ₵10,000.

The NPP MP further stressed that the purchase of the laptops without budgetary allocation breaches the Public Financial Management Act and called it a potential avenue for corruption.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, MP Davis Opoku Ansah stated, “Last year, the cabinet had to cause the National Communications Authority to fund the purchase of computers under the One Million Coders Program. This is a clear violation of the Public Financial Management Act.

Cabinet and, for that matter, the president cannot cost an institution of state to fund another institutional fit when it’s not budgeted. And I think this should be something we shouldn’t encourage”.

He further added, “What is a bit more worrying is that the Ministry of Communication intends to purchase one computer for 14,000 Ghana cedis. If you look at their projections, today a laptop will be purchased for 140 million under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

140 million under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s administration, we are wondering what proper procurement measures were put in place to ensure that there is value for money”.

The NPP MP further added, “One, you are violating the Public Financial Management Act. Two, you’re overpricing prices. In fact, Mr Speaker, just a trip to Osu here will indicate that a high-end computer that should be used for coding should not cost more than 10 thousand Ghana cedis.

But today, when the Ministry intends to purchase over 2,000 pieces of computer, they are purchasing one for 14 thousand Ghana cedis. 140 million, Mr Speaker, if this is not chop-chop, then I’m wondering what. How much is my phone? How much is the computer?”

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has said Ghana’s presidential jet is deemed unreliable by the Ghana Air Force.

According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the military has advised President Mahama against the use of Ghana’s presidential jet for presidential travel due to security concerns and frequent technical faults.

He further defended President John Dramani Mahama’s use of his brother’s private jet.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye detailed that Ghana has a deficit in terms of its ability to ferry the president, adding that Mahama prefers to use his brother’s aircraft, which he was using pending the arrival of the arrangement the state has made, rather than going to take taxpayers’ money to rent an aircraft.

He further quizzed how saving the country money becomes a problem for anybody.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye further disclosed that the Air Force has raised security concerns over the frequent breakdown of the Ghana Presidential jet.

Speaking on Top Story on Joy FM on Thursday, March 12, Felix Ofosu Kwakye explained, “The state of Ghana has a deficit in terms of its ability to ferry the president,” Mr Kwakye said, noting that “Before he became president, his brother had an aircraft that he was using. It is a fact well known to everybody.”

“The president says that rather than going to take taxpayers’ money to rent an aircraft, let me continue using that aircraft that I was using pending the arrival of the arrangement the state has made,” he stated.

“So I ask the question: how does saving the country money become a problem for anybody?” he asked.

He further added, “If it were the case that the state had an aircraft that was functioning and the president disregarded that and hopped into his brother’s aircraft and paid for it, in other words, rented it at a cost to the state, then there would be a legitimate basis to raise complaints of conflict of interest and profiteering by his brother”.

“The Air Force itself has said that because of security concerns and the frequent breakdown, they won’t recommend it be used for the president,” he said.

“They have indicated that its operations have proved unreliable and that it costs too much to maintain because the slightest movement requires repairs. Until then, the president says, ‘Let me use this arrangement that does not impose significant cost on the state pending the arrival of the aircraft,’” he explained.

“So it is not a permanent arrangement in any event. It is only because the state is constrained by the non-availability of a reliable aircraft.”

Meanwhile, the vice president of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, travelled to Guinea on board Ghana’s presidential jet, the Falcon 900EX.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang travels to Conakry, Guinea, to attend the investiture ceremony of Guinea’s President, Mamadi Doumbouya.

The vice president’s video confirmed that Ghana’s presidential jet is back in active service after undergoing an extended eight-month maintenance and repair programme in France.

A statement from the Jubilee House had earlier revealed when President John Dramani Mahama will resume flying in the Falcon EX jet, Ghana’s presidential jet.

According to the Jubilee House statement, President Mahama will only fly on the Falcon EX jet after the Air Force certifies it as safe, according to a statement from the Jubilee House.

The Jubilee House is quoted by TV3 to have said, “President Mahama will use Falcon EX only after the Air Force clears the jet as safe”.

Also, the Vice-President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has revealed that Ghana’s presidential jet, the Falcon 900 Executive Jet, has returned home after eight months of repair work in France.

According to Bright Simons, Ghana’s presidential jet underwent a compulsory maintenance process while in France.

In a post on X, Bright Simons wrote, “Ghana’s presidential jet has been delivered safely back into the custody of the Ghana Air Force since Monday, the 10th of November. Exactly 8 months after it was sent to the Dassault Falcon Service MRO base at Paris Le Bourget (PLB).

Whilst at PLB, it underwent a MANDATORY 24-month and 1600-hour technical inspection”.

Mr Simons further detailed, “During this extensive inspection, severe defects affecting the fuel tank and a turbofan were discovered, triggering prolonged repairs that could only be done with manufacturer assistance at that specific Dassault facility.

All the complex repairs, final tests (including leak tests, engine ground runs, and acceptance flights), have been successfully completed. The long delay in completing the repairs was due to some apparent difficulty sourcing certain OEM-certified spare parts. The aircraft has, however, been given the all clear by DFS now.

Before delivery to Accra, a positioning flight from Marseille, relating to minor logistics, was conducted”, his post concluded.

Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s use of his brother’s private jet is a palpable conflict of interest.

According to him, Mahama has breached his own Code of Conduct for government appointees by repeatedly using a private jet owned by his brother for official international travel.

Speaking on the sidelines in Parliament, Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama stated, “The potential conflict of using a private person’s jet for official trips is apparent,” he said. “And now you are not using just any private person — you are using the president’s brother. The palpable conflict of interest is there.”

“If a president must live beyond reproach, people should not see any semblance of unethical consideration in your behaviour,” he stated. “The fact that the president is using his brother’s aircraft puts him right at the centre of a conflict situation.”

“Down the line, the president is found to be doing the very thing they spoke against,” he said.

“There is no reason whatsoever. Even if there was a need for him to travel, he could have used a commercial flight, even business class, to ensure comfort,” he added.

According to him, Mahama, using his brother’s private jet, sends conflicting signals about the government’s stance on public sector discipline.

Franklin Cudjoe explained that President Mahama must provide justification if he chooses to travel on a private jet, especially after his directives asking government appointees to limit travel unless there is a clear economic justification.

He further cited a recent instance where the Mahama travelled on a commercial flight, a move that was widely publicised by his communications team and praised by many Ghanaians.

In a social media post on March 12, 2026, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “Mr President, with due respect,  you cannot be asking your appointees not to travel without providing economic justification, and then you jump on your brother’s plane without providing us reasons why you think it is the only safe, available and cheaper airline.

Also, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and MP for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has announced the Minority is seeking clarity on President John Dramani Mahama’s recent diplomatic trips using a chartered jet.

According to him, he and his colleague, Old Tafo MP, have formally filed a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh detailed that they are demanding answers on the circumstances under which the President travels, how contingents are chosen, and how these trips are funded.

The MP detailed that the Minority is concerned about transparency, funding, and the criteria for such travel.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stated, “My colleague, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and I have filed a question in this regard. We have catalogued all the travels of the president that have officially been communicated to Parliament.

“Now we are asking the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to come and brief us under what circumstances, what criteria, how he is traveling, who the contingents are, and how we are funding all these.

“When they come to respond to these questions, then we can come out with our position. For now, we are only observing and taking note,” he said.

McDan ‘fights’ GACL for defying court injunction in midnight terminal raid

In a statement issued on March 12, McDan Aviation Limited has accused the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) of defying a court injunction in it midnight terminal raid.

According to McDan Aviation Limited, GACL has breached a court injunction and violated contractual terms.

McDan Aviation Limited has described the GACL midnight terminal raid as an attempt to collapse its business and a disregard for an ongoing legal process.

McDan Aviation Limited, in its statement, detailed that the contract governing its operations at Terminal 1 clearly required the airport operator to provide a 90-day notice before taking any steps to remove the company from the premises.

“The contract governing our operations at Terminal 1 clearly stipulates that GACL is required to provide McDan Aviation with a 90-day notice of eviction before taking any action to remove them from the premises,” the company stated.

“This contractual provision was included to ensure due process and protect the significant investments made. By failing to give the required period of notice, GACL has willfully violated this fundamental contractual requirement,” the statement added.

“On March 10, 2026, GACL was formally served with a court injunction (motion for interlocutory injunction). Yet, in the early hours of March 11, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., GACL officials proceeded to forcibly enter the terminal and remove valuable equipment and property belonging to McDan Aviation,” the statement said.

“This sequence of events reveals a troubling pattern: GACL has not only breached its contractual obligations by ignoring the 90-day notice requirement but has also demonstrated contempt for the rule of law by acting contrary to a court injunction,” the company said.

They further detailed that they are pursuing all available legal remedies to challenge the unlawful termination of their licence.

The statement follows, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced it has ended its Fixed Base Operation (FBO) agreement with McDan Aviation Handling Services Limited.

According to the GACL, the FBO agreement has been terminated due to McDan Aviation’s unpaid licence fees, rent, and royalties.

In August 2022, the agreement was signed, granting McDan Aviation the licence to provide Fixed Base Operation services at designated areas within Terminal 1 of the Accra International Airport.

Under the agreement, McDan Aviation was required to pay licence fees, royalties, and rent to GACL.

GACL revealed that McDan Aviation began defaulting on its payment obligations shortly after the agreement took effect in 2022.

A report by citinews read, “The airport operator said that after several unsuccessful attempts to recover the outstanding debt, access to Terminal 1 was restricted in late 2024. McDan Aviation subsequently settled arrears covering the period from 2022 to 2024, which led to the reopening of the terminal for its operations.

Despite clearing those arrears, GACL said the company again accumulated significant debt due to continued non-payment. The airport authority indicated that no payments were received for rent and royalties throughout 2025, while the operating licence fee due since 2022 also remained outstanding.

In line with the agreement, which requires a 90-day notice period before termination, GACL said it formally notified McDan Aviation on January 10, 2025, to settle the outstanding debt. The company said three additional reminders were issued throughout 2025 urging the firm to meet its financial obligations”.

Citinews further detailed, “During the period, McDan Aviation reportedly proposed a payment plan and issued three post-dated cheques. However, before the cheques were due to be presented, the company asked GACL not to deposit them, citing financial constraints.

GACL said it issued another notice in November 2025 reminding the company of its continuing default.

Following the lapse of the required notice period and several reminders, the airport operator formally terminated the FBO agreement with McDan Aviation on January 16, 2026.

After the termination, GACL wrote to the company clarifying that any payments made afterwards would be treated strictly as settlement of outstanding debts and would not amount to reinstatement of the agreement”.

The story further added, “On February 9, 2026, GACL secured and locked up Terminal 1 and subsequently directed McDan Aviation to remove its belongings from the premises within seven days, in accordance with the termination clauses of the contract. The airport authority said several reminders were sent for the removal of the items but no response was received.

Despite the termination notice, McDan Aviation later made a payment to GACL on February 27, 2026, in the Ghana cedi equivalent of US$265,000. According to GACL, the amount represents roughly half of the total outstanding debt owed by the company.

The airport operator said it will continue to pursue the recovery of the remaining debt from the McDan Group”.

The report further detailed that the GACL and McDan group are currently in court with the airport authority over a different dispute.  

“GACL also disclosed that the McDan Group is currently in court with the airport authority over a separate dispute involving 16 acres of land, for which it says the group owes millions of dollars in unpaid obligations despite developing commercial properties on the land and renting them out.

The company emphasised that the FBO agreement with McDan Aviation has been “duly and finally terminated,” adding that there is no legal basis for re-engagement with the firm regarding Fixed Base Operation services at Terminal 1.

GACL further urged organisations doing business with it to honour their financial obligations, warning that entities that fail to do so will face full debt recovery processes as stipulated in their contractual agreements,” citinews report added.

According to Ramadan Adamu Mohammed, during the NPP’s tenure, all MPs had to do was just submit a list of interested persons who wanted to join the security services, and they would jump the process to the medical before you know it, and they are already in uniforms.

Ramadan Adamu Mohammed further lamented that under the NDC unfortunately the party likes to follow the rules too much.

Speaking to some members of NDC in the Adenta constituency, Ramadan Adamu Mohammed stated, “This recruitment, during the NPP’s tenure, all they would ask was to bring the interested person’s name for recruitment.

The person will not have to go through the process; the person will jump straight to the medicals. By the time you know the person, they are already wearing the uniform. Unfortunately, it’s like we, the NDC, are following the rules too much. Today, when I got here, a lot of people have complained to me. Our people who have worked for the party must see the reward on earth before they go to heaven”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the Adentan MP’s remarks stated, “This is the most candid thing I’ve heard from an MP in a while.

Adentan MP basically confirming what thousands of disqualified applicants feel: NDC is sticking to the rules (as per manifesto), but many expected the old ‘bring your name’ style.

One X user added, “This is misinformation and terrible political interference in the process. If the MP is saying this, has he bothered to use the Floor of parliament to ask for an audit of the recruits in the last 8 years to prove his allegations before even saying such nonsense?”.

A netizen added, “So the complaint is that the current government is actually following the rules?

That’s a new one. But I guess if the rules were written by the other side, following them strictly might feel like a punishment to your own people. Tricky situation.”

Meanwhile, President of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, Dr Ishmael Norman, has said the Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak needs to be applauded,

Dr Ishmael Norman hailed the Interior Minister for choosing merit over politics in the ongoing security recruitment.

According to Dr Ishmael Norman, the approach represents a major departure from the political culture that influences recruitment in Ghana.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, Dr Ishmael Norman stated, “I think we need to applaud the minister of interior for being a moral politician and a moral leader, trying to do the selection based upon meritocracy.”

“This, for me, is the first time I’m seeing this kind of thing happen in Ghana, and I am totally immersed with admiration for them. It’s a very difficult choice-making and decision-making process, but I believe that the minister and the committee are still going about it the right way.”

Dr Ishmael Norman added, “So that if they do it in phases, then they are able to accommodate more people, considering the budget, the financial implications involved in every single person that you hire.”

“And so I think, without going into too much detail, again, the minister is on the right path. Meritocracy is not what Ghanaians want.”

“Ghanaians, whether they are NDP or NDC, they want, you know, identity politics, no patrimonialism.”

“You push people in because your party is in power, that’s what they want. It’s very, very difficult to go against the grain of the moral behaviour of the society. But they are on the right path. They should do the right thing… And in the end, victory will again be on the part of the NDC.”

Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), has revealed that along the line during her galamsey fight last year, she got poisoned.

According to Dr Bisiw-Kotei, she survived the poisoned attack by the grace of God.

Speaking on GHOne on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Dr Bisiw-Kotei stated, “Along the line, I got poisoned, but by the grace of God, I survived”.

She further shared the galamsey challenges facing the nation, “When we go to the field, we know the numbers that come. On my phone, sometimes when I see pictures, I don’t even want to open.

“We are still working. When we came, I needed time to get to know myself so that when setting up the structures to work, then I know which structure is needed. Now we have regional zonal coordinators,” she stressed.

“We have northern zone A, northern zone B, then we have middle belt A, middle belt B. Then we have the co-staff, and we have the coordinators. We have a national coordinator, and we are working on the ground, but of course, I can’t be in the field all the time as the administrator.

My guys are there, and we are collaborating. We are still arresting, and they [galamseyers] are still doing it, and we are making sure that they do not take the lead,” she concluded.

In related news, a mother and her three sons have drowned in an abandoned illegal mining (galamsey) pit.

Reports suggest the 42-year-old mother and the three children drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Wassa Dunkwa in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

The information gathered suggests the tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the family apparently went to gather firewood from the galamsey site.

An eyewitness report suggests the children, after gathering the firewood and placing it by the roadside, decided to swim in a nearby pit when they began to drown.

The mother, noticing the distress of her children, rushed in to rescue them and sadly drowned in the process as well.

Their bodies have since been retrieved and conveyed to the morgue at the Catholic Hospital in Asankragwa, while the Police in Asankrangwa have initiated a probe into the incident.

In a post shared by JOYNEWS, Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah she wrote, “MOTHER, THREE CHILDREN DROWN IN ABANDONED GALAMSEY PIT AT WASSA DUNKWA.

A routine search for firewood turned tragic for a family of four at Wassa Dunkwa on Saturday afternoon.

The 42-year-old mother and her three sons had gone to an area near an illegal mining site to fetch dried cocoa trees for firewood, a common practice among residents.

Eyewitnesses say after gathering the wood and placing it by the roadside, the children moved toward a nearby abandoned galamsey pit filled with water and decided to swim.

Moments later, they began to struggle in the water.

Their mother rushed in to save them, but sadly drowned alongside her children.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by uncovered and unprotected illegal mining pits across communities in the Western Region”.

A teacher of the Trinity Methodist Preparatory School at Egyaa in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region has been accused of subjecting two pupils to severe lashes.

Reports suggest the two pupils, aged 10 and 8, were subjected to 60 lashes by the teacher.

Moses Barnabas, the children’s father, alleged that the Teacher, Sir Ebenezer, lashed his children for sitting on chairs arranged for an event without prior permission.

According to Moses Barnabas, the teacher gave the 10-year-old boy, a Class Four pupil, 40 lashes while the eight-year-old in Class Two received 20 lashes.

Speaking to Citi news about the situation, Moses Barnabas stated, “I returned home to see my boys crying uncontrollably. When I asked why, they told me their teacher lashed them for going to sit on chairs arranged for an event without his permission.

“The older one said he received 40 lashes, while the younger one received 20. Their arms, back, and buttocks had reddened stripes from the cane,” he added.

According to the father, he reported the matter to the headmaster of the school but received an unsatisfactory response, which has prompted him to report the matter to the police.

He further added, “I am expecting justice. I took my children to school to be educated, not to be abused in this manner. I understand children can be punished, but not to this extreme”.

In related news, Mr Fatawu, Primary teacher, Falahiyat E/A Primary School Block “A”, is in hot water after allegedly flogging a pupil to pulp.

Reports suggest that the primary teacher flogged the Basic 5 pupil to pulp, leading to him receiving treatment at Damongo St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in the Savannah Region.

Abdul Wahidu Mahama, the father of the Basic 5 pupil, revealed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20.

According to reports, the teacher assigned a homework which the pupil scored 2 out of 8.

The teacher then asked the boy and his classmate to lie on dual desk tables in the classroom.

Mr Fatawu is alleged to have used a wire cane to flog the students on their backs and other parts of their bodies.

Abdul Wahidu Mahama, the boy’s father, stated, “My son tried to block the cane with his hand, but the teacher flogged him heavily and verbally insulted the children for their low performance”.

He revealed that Abdul Wahidu (the pupil) complained of severe pain in his hand and was taken to the Damongo St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital after an unsuccessful attempt to treat him at home.

The father added that his son was admitted and prescribed medication, followed by surgery, which was carried out on Tuesday, January 27, adding that the teacher has not visited the child in the hospital since the incident.

The headmistress and another school staff member are said to have visited the hospital to check on the student’s condition.

Meanwhile, the father is seeking justice, appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

He added, “This is about protecting our innocent future assets”.

Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has addressed ongoing Ghanaian concerns regarding the appearance of her appearance.

According to the Chief Fire Officer, Ghanaians keep saying she is always sleeping, but that’s just how his eyes look.

The Chief Fire Officer further added that it does not bother her when Ghanaians are always saying she is sleeping.

Speaking in an interview shared on X, CFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong explained, “Ghanaians keep saying I’m always sleeping, but that’s just how my eyes look. If you think I’m always asleep, go ahead and keep talking. It doesn’t bother me.”

“I laugh when I hear people talk about me sleeping all the time. I’ve even thought about using both hands to hold my eyes open while walking around! I want them to understand that I don’t always sleep as much as they claim I do. That’s just how God made me,” she said.

She added, “Interestingly, my directors often joke, ‘Madam, your eyes are very small, yet you don’t wear eyeglasses, while we with bigger open eyes do!’ I tell them that’s just how God does things. I always say that’s how God created me.”

“If you perceive me as someone who is always sleeping, then so be it. Interpret it however you like to satisfy yourself. It doesn’t really bother me because that’s just the way my eyes are. My eyes are open to your testimony as you came to interview me, and I can see everything clearly. So why should I care about what people say? I have tough skin. I’m tough,” she said.

Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, who previously served as Director of Fire Safety, was appointed the first-ever female Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of Ghana by President John Dramani Mahama.

In related news, the Minority in Parliament has called on the Interior Ministry to refund approximately GH¢113 million collected from applicants who failed to qualify in the ongoing security recruitment exercise.

 Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, accused the John Mahama government of exploiting Ghanaian applicants and called for an investigation.

According to Ntim Fordjour, the Interior Ministry knew they were recruiting only 5,000, but lured half a million people just to milk applicants of GH¢113 million.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, stated, “Already, we have a national security threat and unemployment on our hands. You promised them jobs. You didn’t add any conditions”.

“Then you turn around, you politically expand the age limit from twenty-five to thirty-five, signalling that there is more room and more access, more financial clearance, which was a lie”.

“You knew from the very beginning you were recruiting only 5,000, and yet you did all this to lure half a million people, took their money, milked them GH¢113 million cedis and over, only to turn around yesterday, after you have knocked them out by technology and internet disruptions from the aptitude test,” he said.

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to tell Ghanaians why he continues to use his brother’s private jet for official state trips.

According to him, Mahama, using his brother’s private jet, sends conflicting signals about the government’s stance on public sector discipline.

Franklin Cudjoe explained that President Mahama must provide justification if he chooses to travel on a private jet, especially after his directives asking government appointees to limit travel unless there is a clear economic justification.

He further cited a recent instance where the Mahama travelled on a commercial flight, a move that was widely publicised by his communications team and praised by many Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and MP for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has announced the Minority is seeking clarity on President John Dramani Mahama’s recent diplomatic trips using a chartered jet.

According to him, he and his colleague, Old Tafo MP, have formally filed a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh detailed that they are demanding answers on the circumstances under which the President travels, how contingents are chosen, and how these trips are funded.

The MP detailed that the Minority is concerned about transparency, funding, and the criteria for such travel.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stated, “My colleague, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and I have filed a question in this regard. We have catalogued all the travels of the president that have officially been communicated to Parliament.

“Now we are asking the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to come and brief us under what circumstances, what criteria, how he is traveling, who the contingents are, and how we are funding all these.

“When they come to respond to these questions, then we can come out with our position. For now, we are only observing and taking note,” he said.

Also, Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin had proposed that the Ministry of the Interior consider refunding the fees of applicants disqualified from the security service recruitment.

According to Afenyo-Markin, if the Ministry of the Interior can’t refund disqualified applicants, they should consider measures to allow them to be recruited in future years without the need to purchase vouchers again.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Afenyo Markin stated, “Beyond this, we may have to look at the number of people who have bought forms and have gone through all this hell and whether there is a way for them to get their money refunded if they do not get the opportunity.

If they cannot be refunded, there must be a system to move them next year. Because over 200,000 have bought forms, 90,000 plus are going through the aptitude test, and we are being told only 5000 will be taken”, he added.

The minority calls follow Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, who has revealed that only 5000 security recruitment applicants out of 105,000 qualified for medicals will be recruited.

The Interior Minister stressed that the introduction of the aptitude test was to prevent the unfair practice of having 400,000 people pay for medicals for a space of 5,000.

According to the Interior Minister, the pass mark of the aptitude exams was 65, which has 105,000 applicants qualifying for medicals.

Speaking to the media, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka stated, “So, if you do that, are you fair to the average Ghanaian? Remember, all these stages, apart from buying the voucher to be able to apply, body selection does not require payment; documentation does not require payment; the aptitude test does not require payment, but medicals will require payment.

“And in order not to shortchange innocent young people, it is better you put in a mechanism that will reduce the number drastically, because once a person goes to pay, I mean, I know the military, when they were done, the medicals alone were about 1,600.

“We are also doing even mental health assessments, and we’re also doing drug tests in addition. Yes, I know the deputy, and I were just in a meeting, and we’re insisting that despite all these additions, the price will still not be very high, looking at the numbers that we are talking about.

“Are you going to allow over 400,000 people to go and do medicals when you know you have space for 5,000? How fair is it to the people? So, you need to devise a method where you slow down the number and have some reasonable figures. So, the pass mark was put at 65, because that was what they were told before they even started the exams,” he said.

Abusuapanyin Tupac removed as Lumba’s family head

An elderly woman in the Ekuorna family has claimed that they have removed Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, as the family head.

It will be recalled that the elders of Parkoso gave Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu a two-week ultimatum to appear before the chiefs.

Following another gathering of the late Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s family, together with elders of Parkoso, Abusuapanyin Tupac failed to honour the initial summons before the Chiefs of Parkoso.

Mama China, in a video, who spoke on behalf of the elderly women, stated that the decision to remove Kofi Owusu as family head was not solely influenced by the controversies surrounding the burial of the late Highlife legend.

Mama China stated, “Kwadwo’s death isn’t what sparked the whole issue in the family. We had already warned him several times, but because he felt that we couldn’t do anything to him, he continued to do whatever pleased him. When Kwadwo passed on, that is when things became worse.

“From today, the position he holds as Abusuapanyin has been taken away from him. He is no longer our family head,” she said.

She further added that the removal of Abusuapanyin Tupac will not prevent him from attending gatherings.

“He is our brother, and we love him, but because of what he is doing on social media, we feel ashamed because people point fingers at us and mock us. He claims he is the family head, but if we ask him to give a brief history of the stool, he won’t be able to. Yet he stands somewhere and insults us,” she added.

In another video, some male members of the family who attended the meeting also expressed their support for the women.

“We, the men in the family, also support the women. From today, Kofi Owusu is no longer the family head because he failed to show respect to the family. The same people who made him the family head are the same people who have now removed him,” an elderly man said during the meeting with the Chiefs of Parkoso.

Earlier, Abusuapanyin Tupac, the family head of late Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, broke his silence following calls demanding his removal as family head.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, no one can remove him from his position as a family head except the Asantehene.

Speaking in an interview on Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Abusuapanyin Tupac stated, “No one can overthrow me as a family head except Otumfuo. People don’t show respect and are just talking without understanding. Who is Mama China anyway? If a family head organises a funeral, I answer only to my family.

A post-funeral review is for us, not for bloggers or outsiders. Mama China and her group need to understand that they are not part of the Ekuona clan. Even if two Ekuona members join them, that does not make them our family,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Overlord of GaDangme has summoned the family head of the late Daddy Lumba, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac. 

According to the Ga chiefs, Abusuapanyin Tupac has been summoned in connection with reports and confirmation by Lumba’s family head that the late singer was laid to rest in his private residence in East Legon.

On March 10, 2026, in a letter, the office of Gborbu Wulomo-Shitsɛ, Nungua traditional area, directed Abusuapanyin Tupac to appear before Wor Lumor Konor Nuumo Borkete Laweh Tsuru at the palace in Nungua on March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am.

In other news, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has finally broken his silence following a video of a female TikToker identified as Lopez, who has cried out, claiming the MP was in her DM and even asked her to spend the night with him.

According to Vincent Assafuah, the TikToker’s allegations are palpable falsehoods and should be put in the trash.

The Old Tafo detailed that she does not even know the said lady and has never been in her DMs, adding that he does not know how she got those screenshots she shared.

Speaking in a phone call with Black Rasta, which he shared on his ‘The Black Pot show’, Vincent Ekow Assafuah stated, “I have not dealt with anybody like that. What has been put out there is a sharp falsehood, palpable falsehood, and has nothing to do with the truth. I have not entered her DM, I have not exchanged messages with her or so ever. I don’t know whether she got those screenshots from.

I got to know of the issue yesterday evening because I had been driving for close to 7 hours. I decided to call a few friends so that I could get the phone number of this said lady.

I got her number this morning, so I decided to call. When I called, there was no response, but I think she called back and followed with a text, saying do I want to order something? written as if she did not even know the person she was speaking to.

So I introduced myself, I have seen an unpleasant video, and wanted to speak to you about it if you have time. Then she said we can talk. This is the same person who said she has blocked me from everywhere, she is the person who said she has my number and has been texting me. This is all not true.”

The Old Tafo MP further disclosed that he told his lawyers to write a letter to her demanding she issue an apology, but realised the videos had been taken down.

According to Vincent Assafuah, any other actions will be taken on the advice of his lawyers.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah further added, “After I told my lawyers to issue a letter to get her to apologise, I also saw that the video had already been deleted. Franklin Cudjoe slammed President John Mahama for using a private aircraft belonging to his brother Ibrahim Mahama.

According to him, Mahama, using his brother’s private jet, sends conflicting signals about the government’s stance on public sector discipline.

Franklin Cudjoe explained that President Mahama must provide justification if he chooses to travel on a private jet, especially after his directives asking government appointees to limit travel unless there is a clear economic justification.

Meanwhile, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and MP for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has announced the Minority is seeking clarity on President John Dramani Mahama’s recent diplomatic trips using a chartered jet.

According to him, he and his colleague, Old Tafo MP, have formally filed a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh detailed that they are demanding answers on the circumstances under which the President travels, how contingents are chosen, and how these trips are funded.

The MP detailed that the Minority is concerned about transparency, funding, and the criteria for such travel.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stated, “My colleague, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and I have filed a question in this regard. We have catalogued all the travels of the president that have officially been communicated to Parliament.

“Now we are asking the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to come and brief us under what circumstances, what criteria, how he is traveling, who the contingents are, and how we are funding all these.

“When they come to respond to these questions, then we can come out with our position. For now, we are only observing and taking note,” he said.

Nkwatia SHS final-year student allegedly butchered by Church security guard

A 19-year-old Nkwatia SHS final-year student has been allegedly butchered by a Church security guard.

Reports suggest the Nkwatia SHS final-year student identified as Opoku was allegedly attacked with a cutlass by a security guard.

The security guard has been identified as Yaw Donkor of the Arena of Love Church, Nkawkaw.

According to the information gathered, the Nkwatia SHS final-year student, Opoku, is receiving treatment at Koforidua Regional Hospital.

Reports further suggest that Yaw Donkor has been arrested.

It is yet to be known the exact cause of the incident that led to the Church security guard butchering the student with a cutlass.

In a news shared by GHOne TV on X read, “19-year-old Nkwatia SHS final-year student, Opoku, is receiving treatment at Koforidua Regional Hospital after he was allegedly attacked with a cutlass by a security guard at the Arena of Love Church, Nkawkaw.

The suspect, Yaw Donkor, has been arrested”.

In other news, a Spiritualist identified as Horlali Alatusa has been busted for allegedly murdering a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

Reports suggest the heinous crime occurred in Bentum in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.

According to reports, the Spiritualist was arrested following a complaint from another farmer about a terrible stench coming from his farmland.

The information gathered from citinews read, “Even though some members of the community marched the suspect to the farm on Tuesday, March 10, they could not find the body of the deceased after digging a trench that was initially dug by the suspect.

However, the residents reported the matter to the police after sighting some clots of blood in the area that was dug.

Upon further interrogation, the suspect confessed to the police and led a team of officers to where he had kept the body of the deceased”.

Reports suggest the remains of the unidentified woman had her head, both legs and womanhood mutilated.

Also, community members have alleged that the murder was committed for ritual purposes since the suspect, Spiritualist Horlali, is well known to have inherited his father’s deities.

Some eyewitnesses detailed that they had only seen the deceased with the suspect in the community last Sunday, but could not see her again, which raised their suspicions of her possible murder.

The irate members of the community, following the discovery of the dead body, have since demolished the suspect’s residence.

Meanwhile, the remains of the woman have since been conveyed by police, with the suspect remaining in custody.

2 SWESBUS students involved in Obrachire assault granted GH¢10,000 bail

The Agona Swedru District Court has granted two students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) bail after they were captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a student of the Obrachire Senior High Technical School.

The two SWESBUS students identified as Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamid, appearing before the court on March 11, 2026, were granted bail of GH¢10,000 each with two sureties.

In court, the two were charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit the crime of assault and assault, but both pleaded not guilty.

His Worship Victor Kusi presiding over the case adjourned the case to April 17, 2026, for the next hearing.

Earlier, in court some days ago, the Agona Swedru District Court remanded two students involved in the alleged assault of a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School during an inter-schools sports festival.

The suspects are remanded Benedict Appiah, 18 yrs, and Bilal Mamud, 18 yrs.

The case was presided over by His Worship Victor Kusi on Wednesday February, 25, 2026.

The two are facing charges of conspiracy to commit assault and assault.

Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamid’s legal team’s request for bail was denied, and they have been remanded into police custody to reappear before the court on March 11, 2026.

However, a third suspect, Joseph Amoh, reports suggest preliminary police investigations indicate he was attempting to protect the victim and was not put before the court, but remains under investigation.

It will be recalled that the  Ghana Police Service has announced that the three students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) arrested for the assault on a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School will be put before the court.

The three suspects have been identified as Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18, students of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 24, the Police wrote, “THREE STUDENTS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ASSAULT ON OBRACHIRE SHS STUDENT CAPTURED IN THE VIRAL VIDEO.

Following an engagement between the Director-General/CID, COP/Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, and the management of Swedru School of Business on 23/02/2026, about 9:00 pm of the same day, the authorities of Swedru School of Business brought to the Swedru Divisional Police Command three suspects, all students in the aforementioned school;

1. Joseph Amoh, 20 yrs

2. Benedict Appiah, 18 yrs

3. Bilal Mamud, 18 yrs.

The suspects were arrested and will be put before court

The Central Regional Command wishes to once again condemn the conduct of the students involved and urge the public, especially students, against engaging in acts of violence”.

Meanwhile, the assaulted victim during a district inter-schools athletics competition has demanded justice.

In the video shared by TV3, the victim, identified as Fiadzigbe, was captured with a broken tooth and multiple facial injuries.

According to the victim, he did not provoke them as he was just looking for a place to sit and to apply his medicine to his eyes.

Saddick Adams, a veteran sports journalist and broadcaster with Angel TV, has once again reiterated that no Ghanaian should be charged for an application fee to serve in a security service.

According to Saddick Adams, the security services have an annual budget which must entail the cost of recruitment.

He added that the practice of the Security Service demanding that Ghanaian applicants pay an application fee is plain exploitation.

In a post on X, Saddick Adams wrote, “I insist that NO Ghanaian should be charged any application fees to serve in a security service, only for 90% to be disqualified.

Charging your citizens seeking employment? These public institutions have annual budgets and must entail cost of recruitment.

The practice is extremely wrong on all fronts and nothing but plain exploitation!!”.

His comments follow the  Minister for the Interior, who had stressed that the introduction of the aptitude test was to prevent the unfair practice of having 400,000 people pay for medicals for a space of 5,000.

According to the Interior Minister, the pass mark of the aptitude exams was 65, which has 105,000 applicants qualifying for medicals.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, made this known to the public, revealing that only 5000 applicants out of 105,000 qualified for medicals will be recruited.

Speaking to the media, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka stated, “So, if you do that, are you fair to the average Ghanaian? Remember, all these stages, apart from buying the voucher to be able to apply, body selection does not require payment; documentation does not require payment; the aptitude test does not require payment, but medicals will require payment.

“And in order not to shortchange innocent young people, it is better you put in a mechanism that will reduce the number drastically, because once a person goes to pay, I mean, I know the military, when they were done, the medicals alone were about 1,600.

“We are also doing even mental health assessments, and we’re also doing drug tests in addition. Yes, I know the deputy, and I were just in a meeting, and we’re insisting that despite all these additions, the price will still not be very high, looking at the numbers that we are talking about.

“Are you going to allow over 400,000 people to go and do medicals when you know you have space for 5,000? How fair is it to the people? So, you need to devise a method where you slow down the number and have some reasonable figures. So, the pass mark was put at 65, because that was what they were told before they even started the exams,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin has proposed that the Ministry of the Interior consider refunding the fees of applicants disqualified from the security service recruitment.

According to Afenyo-Markin, if the Ministry of the Interior can’t refund disqualified applicants, they should consider measures to allow them to be recruited in future years without the need to purchase vouchers again.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Afenyo Markin stated, “Beyond this, we may have to look at the number of people who have bought forms and have gone through all this hell and whether there is a way for them to get their money refunded if they do not get the opportunity.

If they cannot be refunded, there must be a system to move them next year. Because over 200,000 have bought forms, 90,000 plus are going through the aptitude test, and we are being told only 5000 will be taken”, he added.

US-based Ghanaian student jailed for engaging in a tuition refund scam

Dickson Alorwornu, also known as “Dixon AI,” a 36-year-old Ghanaian student based in the United States, has been jailed after he was found guilty of engaging in a tuition refund scam.

The information gathered from the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut, Dixon AI has been sentenced to 48 months of imprisonment and two years of supervised release for operating a tuition refund scheme using stolen identities.

Dickson Alorwornu is said to be a resident of Greenwich and created student accounts with stolen identities.

The Attorney’s Office detailed that stolen credit information was used to fill these accounts with money and asks for refunds under the guise that he was no longer interested in the courses.

In a statement issued by the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut, read, “Ghanaian National Sentenced to 4 Years in Federal Prison for Defrauding UConn

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that DICKSON ALORWORNU, also known as “Dixon Al,” 36, a citizen of Ghana residing in Greenwich, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford to 48 months of imprisonment and two years of supervised release for operating a tuition refund scheme using stolen identities.

According to the evidence presented during Alorwornu’s trial, in December 2017, Alorwornu used other individuals’ identities to submit two non-degree student applications to the University of Connecticut (“UConn”). He then used credit card information that had been stolen from three victims to fund the two student accounts with a total of more than $62,000 in fraudulently obtained funds. In early 2018, Alorwornu withdrew from the courses and requested that UConn refund the money he had deposited. UConn subsequently transferred approximately $46,000 to bank accounts Alorwornu controlled.

The investigation revealed that email accounts that Alorwornu used to defraud UConn were also used to defraud other universities of more than $500,000.

Alorwornu was arrested on February 1, 2023. On October 29, 2024, a jury found him guilty of two counts of wire fraud.

Alorwornu’s criminal history includes a conviction in New York in 2017 for an offence involving his use of stolen credit cards and other individuals’ personal identifying information.

Alorwornu, who is released on a $50,000 bond, is required to report to prison on April 20.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the UConn Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Edward Chang and Elena Coronado”.

In related news, a Ghanaian national in Columbus, Ohio, has been arrested by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

 ICE, in a statement, revealed the Ghanaian man abroad was seeking immigration benefits despite his alleged past criminal offence.

According to ICE, the Ghanaian man attempted to hide a credit card fraud history and was arrested.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in a post on Facebook wrote, “A Ghanaian alien convicted of credit card fraud came to our Columbus, Ohio, office looking for immigration benefits.

He tried to hide his criminal past, but officers unveiled the truth. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrived to take him into custody”.

Roderick Kwabena Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has refuted social media claims that adding plastic to fry plantain chips does make them crispier.

According to the FDA Deputy CEO, the circulating claims on social media are false and misleading, adding that such claims are not just in Ghana.

He further disclosed that the FDA are carrying out nationwide market checks, adding that there has been no evidence that plastic is being used in frying plantain chips.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, March 11, Roderick Kwabena Daddey-Adjei stated, “What is going around is purporting that if you use plastic, the plastic melts and then coats the plantain, and therefore it becomes crisp.

That is wrong, and that is something we have already put out there on social media and on YouTube, where we emphasize that these are myths, in fact not only in Ghana. There are other places in Asia where such stories and some people who want to trend come up with such stories.

“We want to assure the public that so far the FDA hasn’t had such evidence and is still conducting the market surveillance. If you put such plastics in oil, the plastic is another type of chemistry, and the oil is edible, they don’t mix so people should not come up with such information,” he said.

Meanwhile, the FDA has warned Ghanaian food vendors that the use of melted plastic in frying to enhance the crispiness and shelf life of the product is a direct chemical contamination.

According to the FDA, the melting of plastic in frying oil is a direct chemical contamination of food and renders the product unsafe for human consumption.

The FDA statement follows videos and reports circulating on social media, which alleged that some plantain chip vendors were using melted plastic in frying to enhance the crispiness and shelf life of the product.

The FDA announced that persons found using plastics or polythene in frying plantain chips would be arrested and prosecuted.

According to the FDA, using plastics or polythene in frying plantain constitutes a criminal offence.

In a statement, the FDA urged consumers to remain vigilant and report plantain chips that have an unusual chemical smell, a plastic-like aftertaste, or maintain the same texture for an unusually long period.

The FDA have further announced that they have launched nationwide market surveillance and laboratory testing of plantain chips following allegations.

Parts of the FDA statement read, “Pursuant to Section 100 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), which prohibits the sale of unwholesome or contaminated food, the use of any non-food-grade additive, including plastics, in food preparation is a criminal offence. Any person found engaging in this practice will face the full rigours of the law, including prosecution and permanent closure of their business”.

However, a Ghanaian plantain chips seller has claimed there is nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags.

The Plantain chips seller made these claims while she demonstrated how the chips are fried using plastic bags to achieve a crisp finish.

According to the Plantain chips seller, the plastic does not melt into the oil, and as such, arguing that the current public outrage is only being generated by some persons to destroy their businesses.

Speaking in a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, the Plantain chips seller boldly claimed, “There’s nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags. Family, look at this; the plantain chips that you claim we fry with plastic bags, I don’t understand. Look at the plastic bag we placed in the oil. It is still the same even after putting it in the hot oil.

So, I don’t understand why Ghanaians have believed the claim that we fry with plastic bags. What at all happens when we put the bag in the oil to fry that you want to spoil our business?” she quizzed.

She further added, “If it’s a deliberate thing you are doing to destroy our businesses, then please stop because you won’t gain anything”.

A pregnant woman, Priscilla Sackey, is pleading with the Court to release her abusive husband, Richard Adjei, a 33-year-old, who was sentenced to six years in prison for assaulting her.

According to Priscilla, she only wanted the police to caution her abusive husband after he assaulted her twice, but the case resulted in a jail term.

Despite the abuse, she says she still needs his support to care for their child.

Eric Agyei is serving a six-year jail term at Kumasi Central Prison for abusing her in their marital home.

Reports suggest the couple live in the Ashanti Region and have two children together.

Priscilla Sackey detailed that the Judge stressed that the husband should not have assaulted a pregnant woman.

Speaking in an interview with Crime Check TV on YouTube, Priscilla Sackey stated, “I pleaded with the court to forgive him because I believed he would change, but the judge didn’t accept. He was jailed for six years. I cried and begged, but the court didn’t listen”.

“He smokes weed and tramadol, and whenever he does, he starts beating me. He stopped for a while, but when I got pregnant, he started again. That’s why I reported that he be punished so he would change. But when he came back, he asked why I reported him, and he beat me again, leaving me injured,” she said.

“But I am pleading with the court to forgive him,” Priscilla appealed.

Some netizens reacting to the development stated, “Ghana my motherland, you report your abusive husband to the police, he gets prosecuted and sent to jail, you’re saying you wanted the police to caution him, if e b caution you dey like why she no carry am go Pastor Ebo?”

Anita Desoso, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has threatened to lead a demonstration against her own party leadership and government if things do not change.

According to Anita Desoso, NDC party members are being unfairly treated after toiling to regain power.

Anita Desoso cried out that the party’s faithful are not being given job opportunities in the government, while outsiders are getting positions.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “You go for a meeting, and I wasn’t present, and you dare give a big woman like me GH¢500. Recently, they had another meeting, which I wasn’t able to attend. They called me, and they gave me GH¢1,400. Which means that since we came about 2 years ago, Anita Desoso is now getting GH¢1,900. Is it fair?

“Look at how we have suffered. Is it fair? I’m not only speaking for myself. People have asked me to speak on their behalf, and I’m adding my own frustration. Let’s assume that you are working on catching people who have stolen from the state, which is necessary but has taken too long,” she said.

She added, “We have been in government for over one year. How many years do we have left? If we don’t take care of our home, would the children listen to us if we go back to them? They would not. So, I’m using this media to let leaders know that they must change, otherwise I will lead a demonstration.”

Earlier, Anita Desoso blew an alarm, alleging that some persons within the party are selling appointments.

According to her, certain elements are selling positions in the government even to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who insulted the NDC.

She alleged that the positions are not being sold by the NDC executives, adding that persons who are unknown to the party are receiving appointments while NDC grassroos members have been abandoned.

Anita Desoso urged the leadership of the party to take the grassroots of the party seriously.

Speaking on Atinka TV, Anita Desoso stated, “A lot of our people are lamenting about employment and other issues. The second point is that many NPP people who insulted us have been given appointments.

But this is not the fault of the party leaders… people are selling positions. It is surprising that people we didn’t know and others who were with the NPP during the election have gotten appointments.

“So, a lot of people are angry. My ears are even hurting as people come to my house complaining, and I ask them to be patient. I explain to them that you need your opponents for certain things sometimes, and I also tell them that the NDC and NPP are not enemies, and it is possible that indirectly they contributed to the party’s victory,” she said in the Twi dialect.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told the party’s grassroots that their patience will be vindicated soon.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is confident that the NDC’s challenges are temporary.

He further called on the NDC grassroots to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party, despite individual actions, adding that party officers are taking note of every situation and will give them serious consideration.

Mustapha Gbande also alleged that pro-NPP accounts are exploiting NDC grassroots frustrations.

According to Mustapha Gbande, most accounts expressing disappointment with the John Mahama-led government and appointees are pro-NPP accounts asserting that some actions of NDC appointees may deviate from party resolve but called on members not to abandon the party, as the pain and struggles shared keep them up at night.

The Old Tafo detailed that she does not even know the said lady and has never been in her DMs, adding that he does not know how she got those screenshots she shared.

As to how the lady doesn’t even know my number, meanwhile, she claims she had been chatting with me, I do not know where she got that information from”.

That will be the realm of my lawyers; how they want to advise so that they find a way to deal with it for now, I will wait on them to see if they want to proceed. But I want to assure the people that this is not true; it is a palpable falsehood and should be put in the trash.

When asked whether the ladies’ utterances had affected his marriage, he stated, “Not at all, I have a very strong woman; it is not something she thinks about at all”

The Old Tafo MP follows, a TikToker who claimed  Ekow Vincent Assafuah was in her DM and even asked her to spend the night with him.

According to the TikToker, Vincent Assafuah texted him less than 5 months ago, and she immediately fell for him after going through his videos and photos on Instagram.

She revealed that she went on a date with him, and she asked the Old Tafo MP whether he had a wife or kids and later disclosed that the MP asked her to spend the night with him, which she refused due to her Christian background.

Lopez stressed that she is pained to know Vincent Assafuah is now married, as she thought she had finally found someone to settle down with after immediately falling for him.

Speaking in a viral self-recorded video, the Ghanaian lady alleged, “This one was in my DM not long ago, I will say less than 5 months, and I come to TikTok today, and I realise that this man is married to another woman.

He was in my DMs. This is the evidence: when he met me, I had been complaining of being single for a long time, so he sent me a DM on Instagram. In my head, I was like, finally, I am coming to know a guy, probably it will lead to marriage.

He texted me in a way that showed he was interested in me as a woman, and I was also interested in him.

I know I am a comic content creator, most of the time I come here to crack jokes, I don’t really talk about my personal life, but this thing has pained me”.

She further added, “I went on a date with this man, I asked him, ‘ Are you married? ‘ He said no, I asked him, ‘Do you have kids he said no’. Sometimes, if you DM a lady and she replies, it does not mean she is a fool. Imagine if I had continued a serious intimate relationship with this man”.  

We went on a date, we had beautiful conversations, he said he wanted to answer an urgent call, so he left me at the restaurant, and he went to stand outside for a long time. So, I was inside the place eating, and when I finished, he texted me asking about the bill. I said the bill was 500 cedis.

On that day, I thought I had gotten a man that I would be marrying soon, I liked him dead serious. Right now, I have blocked him because when we went on the first date, he was like spend a night with me and I was raised in a Christian background”

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has said the video of a female TikToker identified as Lopez, who has cried out, claiming he was in her DM and even asked her to spend the night with him, has not affected his wife.

According to Vincent Assafuah,  he has a very strong woman, adding that the TikToker’s allegations are palpable falsehoods and should be put in the trash.

The Old Tafo detailed that she does not even know the said lady and has never been in her DMs, adding that he does not know how she got those screenshots she shared.

Speaking in a phone call with Black Rasta, which he shared on his ‘The Black Pot show’, Vincent Ekow Assafuah stated, “I have not dealt with anybody like that. What has been put out there is a sharp falsehood, palpable falsehood, and has nothing to do with the truth. I have not entered her DM, I have not exchanged messages with her or so ever. I don’t know whether she got those screenshots from.

I got to know of the issue yesterday evening because I had been driving for close to 7 hours. I decided to call a few friends so that I could get the phone number of this said lady.

I got her number this morning, so I decided to call. When I called, there was no response, but I think she called back and followed with a text, saying do I want to order something? written as if she did not even know the person she was speaking to.

So I introduced myself, I have seen an unpleasant video, and wanted to speak to you about it if you have time. Then she said we can talk. This is the same person who said she has blocked me from everywhere, she is the person who said she has my number and has been texting me. This is all not true.”

Her comments follow the buzz that was generated over the weekend when news broke that Vincent Asafuah held a private traditional marriage ceremony over the weekend with his partner, Dr Charis.

The traditional marriage ceremony was attended by close family and friends, and quickly sparked conversations online. 

Meanwhile, Lopez has lamented that some persons are in her DMs threatening to kill her after a series of videos she posted about Ekow Vincent Assafuah.

Speaking in another self-recorded video, the TikToker disclosed she is being threatened, and further revealed that she has taken all the videos down.

According to her, she is on TikTok for business and called on Ghanaians to forget the video she posted yesterday, adding that sometimes things just don’t go one’s way, and one must accept it.

TikToker Lopez stated, “Those threatening to kill me in my DMs, with all due respect, I did a video yesterday, and I have taken all the videos down. Sometimes things just don’t go the way you want them to go, and I have to accept reality”.

“I am a very private person. This is the first time I have opened up about my private life, maybe I should have just shut up and mind my business, or swallowed everything”.

“Let’s go back to business. Let’s forget about what I posted. I am on TikTok for business. I am not on this social media to be killed, I am here for business”.

NPP Minority demands answers over Mahama’s chartered jet use

Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and MP for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has announced the Minority is seeking clarity on President John Dramani Mahama’s recent diplomatic trips using a chartered jet.

According to him, he and his colleague, Old Tafo MP, have formally filed a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh detailed that they are demanding answers on the circumstances under which the President travels, how contingents are chosen, and how these trips are funded.

The MP detailed that the Minority is concerned about transparency, funding, and the criteria for such travel.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh stated, “My colleague, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and I have filed a question in this regard. We have catalogued all the travels of the president that have officially been communicated to Parliament.

“Now we are asking the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to come and brief us under what circumstances, what criteria, how he is traveling, who the contingents are, and how we are funding all these.

“When they come to respond to these questions, then we can come out with our position. For now, we are only observing and taking note,” he said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, some weeks ago explained why President John Dramani Mahama flew to the World Governments Summit in Dubai and then to Zambia on an aircraft provided by the President of the UAE.

According to Ablakwa, the aircraft being used by President John Mahama is not privately chartered by the presidency but was provided by world leaders eager to host President Mahama because he is in high demand.

Ablakwa detailed that the arrangement reflects the honour, demand, and prestige President Mahama currently enjoys on the international stage.

He further explained that several world leaders are keen to have him attend events and meetings in their countries.

Speaking in Zambia, where President Mahama met with members of the Ghanaian community, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated, “If you have seen in recent times attempts to say that President Mahama is probably falling in love with private jets, this is a different kind of private jet arrangement. It is because of the honour, the high demand, and the very great prestige that President Mahama has brought to the office of the President of Ghana. He is so well sought after and in such high demand that world leaders are not taking no for an answer”.

“They are not looking at his calendar or his schedule. Whatever they have to do to lift him, airlift him to their countries, and send him wherever he has to be next, they are doing that. And so for the record, that is the reason why you saw a different kind of jet here,“ Ablakwa noted.

The Minister added, “Those of you who were at the Airport with us, that explains it. I heard some of you say we are not seeing any Ghana flag on the Jet. It was a special Jet from the ruler of the UAE. It was a similar arrangement with Qatar. 

“So we must all be proud. President Mahama has restored honour and prestige to the high office of President, and Ghana has taken its rightful place in the community of nations,” he added.

Fetish priest busted for allegedly murdering his girlfriend for ritual

A Fetish priest identified as Horlali Alatusa has been busted for allegedly murdering a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

Reports suggest the heinous crime occurred in Bentum in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.

According to reports, the Fetish priest was arrested following a complaint from another farmer about a terrible stench coming from his farmland.

The information gathered from citinews read, “Even though some members of the community marched the suspect to the farm on Tuesday, March 10, they could not find the body of the deceased after digging a trench that was initially dug by the suspect.

However, the residents reported the matter to the police after sighting some clots of blood in the area that was dug.

Upon further interrogation, the suspect confessed to the police and led a team of officers to where he had kept the body of the deceased”.

Reports suggest the remains of the unidentified woman had her head, both legs and womanhood mutilated.

Also, community members have alleged that the murder was committed for ritual purposes since the suspect, Spiritualist Horlali, is well known to have inherited his father’s deities.

Some eyewitnesses detailed that they had only seen the deceased with the suspect in the community last Sunday, but could not see her again, which raised their suspicions of her possible murder.

The irate members of the community, following the discovery of the dead body, have since demolished the suspect’s residence.

Meanwhile, the remains of the woman have since been conveyed by police, with the suspect remaining in custody.

In related news, the Ghana Police Service have arrested a young Ghanaian couple for allegedly beheading their three-day-old baby for a suspected money ritual.

The couples have been identified as a 24-year-old Abena Benewa and a 26-year-old Bright Ashiao.

Reports suggest that the couple was arrested at Awutu Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District.

According to reports, the shocking incident was exposed when residents discovered the mutilated body of the baby at a refuse dump and initiated a search for the perpetrators of the evil act.

The information gathered also alleged that the couple claimed their three-day-old baby was pronounced dead upon delivery by a traditional birth attendant in Bontrase.

In a post shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, he wrote, “A young couple, 24-year-old Abena Benewa and 26-year-old Bright Ashiao, have been arrested at Awutu Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District for allegedly beheading their three-day-old baby for a suspected money ritual.

The disturbing act was brought to light after residents discovered the mutilated body of the baby at a refuse dump and launched a search for the perpetrators of the heinous act.

It is reported that the couple claimed the baby was pronounced dead upon delivery by a traditional birth attendant in Bontrase, but failed to adequately explain the severed body parts.

Following rigorous questioning, residents handed over the suspects to the Awutu Beraku District Police Command for further investigations and prosecution”.

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr, has tackled Paul Adom-Otchere following a comment he made about the John Mahama administration scaling down Independence Day celebrations.

Kwesi Pratt quizzed Paul Adom-Otchere if Independence Day are celebrated to make people money for themselves, adding that Adom-Otchere must quit the childishness.

According to Kwesi Pratt, Independence Day should focus on honouring the sacrifices of the country’s founding leaders to inspire citizens to take ownership of the country’s resources and work towards national self-reliance.

He further questioned the current form of celebrations and proposed alternative ways of marking the day.

He proposed that educational programmes in schools should emphasise Ghana’s history, as well as sporting and cultural activities that promote national unity.

The veteran journalist also suggested that nationwide sports events across regions and cultural showcases highlighting Ghanaian food and traditions.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Kwesi Pratt Jr stated, “Do we celebrate Independence Day to make people money for themselves? We should quit the childishness. Independence Day is celebrated to venerate our forebears who stood for our liberty”.

“Independence Day is much more important than just a commercial activity, and I’m worried that some analysts reduce it to that,” he stated.

He further quizzed, “Whether we organise a parade at the Black Star Square or Jubilee House, what does it do to make our people wake up to their history and live up to the demands of that history?”

“If at the end of the celebration Ghanaians are awakened to the need to own their own resources and exploit these resources for their own benefit, wouldn’t that be a step forward?” he added.

His comments follow Paul Adom-Otchere, who fired shots at the John Dramani Mahama-led government over its scaled-down Independence Day celebration since it assumed office.

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Mahama government’s reduction in expenditure for the Independence Day celebration is hurting ordinary Ghanaians who used to make some money during the celebrations.

Paul Adom-Otchere highlighted that the Mahama government’s decision is denying Ghanaians the joy of celebrating the country’s independence with the drastic cut of its expenditure.

He further argued that the Mahama government is incurring unnecessary expenses that benefit only a few, like the renaming og the Kotoka International Airport. 

Speaking during a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Adom Otchere stated, “The Independence spending, while it is government spending, is a major stimulant of the economy in all of those places. So the budget of 17 million cedis that is applied, they buy 4000 flags made by Ghanaians. They know that every march, so they prepare for it. Lord Commey used to be in charge of it”.

Ashanti region gets theirs, Brong Ahafo region, the GES also get their Independence budget for rehearsals, they contact the kenkey seller, and on Independence day, they give the children food. That is what it is about; it is not about any politician spending money”.

“President Mahama has been there before he knows it. Independent spending across the country is an economic stimulant. Our problem is not spending. Our concern is that when the government is spending, it must spend on things that benefit the people, not on itself”.

“The Independence spending goes right down to the grassroots of your political party, right down to the basic end of the society, everybody benefits from Ghana’s independence. That is why people are saying that the Independence vibe is gone. It is a point of National Unity, and you spend taxpayers’ money on that, that is not what you should be cutting, you should be cutting other things”, he added.

Adom-Otchere further added, “You rename Kotoka International Airport and pay money to who? One contractor. Independence (celebration) is going to thousands of people, you won’t pay. The greatest good is to the greatest number of people. I don’t know how the government is going to sustain a very dull 70th anniversary celebration of Ghana’s independence… Is that what is going to happen? The march bonuses of all the kenkey sellers are gone. The people who make flags, march bonuses, gone.

“John Mahama has taken it. He doesn’t want to share it. But when it’s about them, they do it. The ministers bought cars. Goldboard has money. It’s with people. We see all these things, but the very basic guy, you say that I don’t want to spend, and you are presenting it as prudence. That is why you are hearing the noises you are hearing. I’m not making those noises. That is what all the media are saying: ‘Ah, is this really Independence Day?’” he lamented.

The Renowned broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere added, “You (sic) send them zero cedis. You send Kumasi zero, you send Secondi zero, and Azim zero. District assembly, zero. North Dayi, zero, everywhere, zero. Then we go home. Quiet. Are we not independent? Are we not proud of it anymore? Do we not want to be the Black Star of Africa anymore? Why are we quenching the fire of the nation with these settings and overzealous ‘I’m not corrupt’… Nobody has told you not to chase your ghost, not to chase shadows. Present what the people of Ghana are used to”.

We should be able to do this every month, but you can’t do it every month. So, at least, that sacred March event, let it go,” he said, arguing that the over GH¢17 million spent on Independence Day celebrations by the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government was insignificant, looking at the size of Ghana’s economy”.

Ghanaian Dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has boldly revealed his political ambition in contesting for a parliamentary seat in Ablekuma if residents call on him to serve.

Shatta Wale speaking during an interview on the Ekosiisen programme on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, revealed, “I love Ghana so much. If the people of Ablekuma call me, I will definitely go. But I won’t say because I have money now, I’m coming to contest. When they call, I will go, but as an independent candidate”.

“Ghana is a funny country. Sometimes when you decide to do something, that is when you have some people with talks here and there. But I believe at the right time [things will fall in place],” he said.

He further added, “Sometimes when I watch movies, I learn a lot from them. Recently, I was watching The Book of Moses on Netflix, and I saw how stubborn Moses was when God was asking him to go back to Egypt”.

“I feel when the people call for it, I can stand out boldly. But I don’t want to come out myself and feel like I’m entering people’s business. When the people want it, that is when I can come out,” he added.

Shatta Wale further disclosed he does not intend to align himself with any political party saying, “Most definitely, but I don’t want to belong to any political party. I want to be myself”.

“We are tired of the 1992 laws and constitution. We need to grow up from where we are. Other countries have grown, so we also need to look at how we can move forward,” he said.

“If I have to go into any constituency, they should understand that we also have policies we want to implement in the system. That is what is going to work,” he noted.

In related news, John Boadu, the former NPP General Secretary and now National Chairman hopeful, has said that if possible, he will get Ghanaian dancehall king Shatta Wale to join the party.

According to John Boadu, the NPP’s future will depend on how they connect with the youth.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, John Boadu stated, “I know how to deal with these young guys, selling our messages, and making our message not too hard, as soft as they want, we’ll be able to get to them,” he said.

“By the year 2028, ages between 18 to around 36 to 40 will be about 60% of the voters. The solution is to get into their arena and deal with them”.

When asked if he is going to get Shatta Wale to join the NPP, John Boadu responded,  “If possible, why not, and campaign for you? Not necessarily a hard campaign, but passing through this high content”.

However, he was reminded that the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections engaged King Paluta, yet suffered a humiliating defeat.

He noted, “You need to do more of that by nurturing these youthful people. I am saying it is not even necessary to have them at your rallies”

“You need to meet them where they are. You need to be able to tap them with their interest and not necessarily bring them on your political platforms, and it is important that we look at that.”

He further argued that the NDC is now having a growing influence of young academics.

John Boadu added, “You can now see that academia, for instance, looks like the NDC is having a lot of them as we speak now. Many of these people don’t need so much”.

“It’s not about an appointment. Many of them just need recognition. Many of them need that touch, that belonging touch of the party to be able to get because many of them want to be seen as the ones who are even reviewing your programs, reviewing your policies”, John Boadu noted.

He further praised Shatta Wale for his massive influence among Ghanaian youth citing, “The crowd Shatta Wale pulled for his birthday concert, no political party can achieve that”.
