Interior Minister needs to be applauded for choosing merit over politics – Dr Norman on security recruitment

President of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, Dr Ishmael Norman, has said the Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak needs to be applauded over the security recruitment.

Dr Ishmael Norman hailed the Interior Minister for choosing merit over politics in the ongoing security recruitment.

According to Dr Ishmael Norman, the approach represents a major departure from the political culture that influences recruitment in Ghana.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, Dr Ishmael Norman stated, “I think we need to applaud the minister of interior for being a moral politician and a moral leader, trying to do the selection based upon meritocracy.”

“This, for me, is the first time I’m seeing this kind of thing happen in Ghana, and I am totally immersed with admiration for them. It’s a very difficult choice-making and decision-making process, but I believe that the minister and the committee are still going about it the right way.”

Dr Ishmael Norman added, “So that if they do it in phases, then they are able to accommodate more people, considering the budget, the financial implications involved in every single person that you hire.”

“And so I think, without going into too much detail, again, the minister is on the right path. Meritocracy is not what Ghanaians want.”

“Ghanaians, whether they are NDP or NDC, they want, you know, identity politics, no patrimonialism.”

“You push people in because your party is in power, that’s what they want. It’s very, very difficult to go against the grain of the moral behaviour of the society. But they are on the right path. They should do the right thing… And in the end, victory will again be on the part of the NDC.”

His comments follow the  Minister for the Interior, who had stressed that the introduction of the aptitude test was to prevent the unfair practice of having 400,000 people pay for medicals for a space of 5,000.

According to the Interior Minister, the pass mark of the aptitude exams was 65, which has 105,000 applicants qualifying for medicals.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, made this known to the public, revealing that only 5000 applicants out of 105,000 qualified for medicals will be recruited.

Speaking to the media, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka stated, “So, if you do that, are you fair to the average Ghanaian? Remember, all these stages, apart from buying the voucher to be able to apply, body selection does not require payment; documentation does not require payment; the aptitude test does not require payment, but medicals will require payment.

“And in order not to shortchange innocent young people, it is better you put in a mechanism that will reduce the number drastically, because once a person goes to pay, I mean, I know the military, when they were done, the medicals alone were about 1,600.

“We are also doing even mental health assessments, and we’re also doing drug tests in addition. Yes, I know the deputy, and I were just in a meeting, and we’re insisting that despite all these additions, the price will still not be very high, looking at the numbers that we are talking about.

“Are you going to allow over 400,000 people to go and do medicals when you know you have space for 5,000? How fair is it to the people? So, you need to devise a method where you slow down the number and have some reasonable figures. So, the pass mark was put at 65, because that was what they were told before they even started the exams,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian media personality, Saddick Adams, has said NO Ghanaian should be charged any application fees to serve in a security service, only for 90% to be disqualified.

Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, has revealed that only 5000 security recruitment applicants out of 105,000 qualified for medicals will be recruited.

The Interior Minister stressed that the introduction of the aptitude test was to prevent the unfair practice of having 400,000 people pay for medicals for a space of 5,000.

According to the Interior Minister, the pass mark of the aptitude exams was 65, which has 105,000 applicants qualifying for medicals.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, made this known to the public, revealing that only 5000 applicants out of 105,000 qualified for medicals will be recruited.

Also, the Interior Minister has announced that only 1,000 applicants will be recruited into the Ghana Immigration Service out of more than 180,000 who applied.

According to the Interior Minister, the Ghana Immigration Service’s current infrastructure, logistical capacity and training limit the number of recruits it can accommodate.

Speaking to the media, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka stated, “The total of over 180,000 young men wanted to join the Ghana Immigration Service. But the interesting thing is that today, the Ghana Immigration Service, the strength, from the Comptroller General to the last officer, stands at 18,300. Less than 20,000, yet you have 180,000 opting to join,” he said.

“Unfortunately, because of the physical space, we could only have space for 1,000,” he stated.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “You guys always find means to take money from we the citizens. Look at the number of vouchers sold, meanwhile you guys are recruiting only 5000 people. A country called GHANA, hmmm…..!!!!”.

“Why sell 400,000 then? Cant you sell at least 10,000?”, a netizen added.

“You need 5K humans for a job, you sell over 500K vouchers for what exactly? char this country really dey tear me oo herh!”, one more netizen added.

A netizen added, “So why sell 400000 forms if you knew you only had a space for 5000, you do the math and now you’ve failed us then act as if you’re being nice and considerate”.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian media personality, Saddick Adams, has said NO Ghanaian should be charged any application fees to serve in a security service, only for 90% to be disqualified.

Additionally, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for the AI-based aptitude test used in the ongoing security services recruitment to be tailored to specific roles, arguing that a generalised system is unfair and disadvantages applicants.

He also proposed that the Ministry of the Interior consider refunding the fees of applicants disqualified from the security service recruitment or implement measures to allow them to be recruited in future years without the need to purchase vouchers again.

Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, has proposed that the Ministry of the Interior consider refunding the fees of applicants disqualified from the security service recruitment.

According to Afenyo-Markin, if the Ministry of the Interior can’t refund disqualified applicants, they should consider measures to allow them to be recruited in future years without the need to purchase vouchers again.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Afenyo Markin stated, “Beyond this, we may have to look at the number of people who have bought forms and have gone through all this hell and whether there is a way for them to get their money refunded if they do not get the opportunity.

If they cannot be refunded, there must be a system to move them next year. Because over 200,000 have bought forms, 90,000 plus are going through the aptitude test, and we are being told only 5000 will be taken”, he added.

According to Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Electricity and water tariffs have exposed the John Mahama government for doing nothing in government for the past 15 months.

The MP for Manhyia South highlighted that the Electricity and water tariffs have exposed the NDC government’s propaganda.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah stated, “ You have done the same propaganda for 15 months, today you are being exposed by elerecity trarrifs.

The electricity tariffs have exposed you that you are not doing anything in 15 months in government. You have been expose by water tariffs that for the last 15 months, you have not been doing anything in the government.

In related news, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said its meters deployed are rigorous and accurate.

According to the ECG,  they remain confident in the accuracy and reliability of their meters, but acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns, adding that they have taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders in terms of metering and billing systems.

ECG further announced that it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test meters following public complaints.

The ECG disclosed that all electricity meters deployed by them undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy; however disclosed that customers may have genuine concerns.

The statement added that in the spirit of transparency and accountability, they have requested the GSA to randomly test meters, and their findings will be compiled in a report to the Minister.

In a statement, ECG’s Director of Communications, William Boateng, read, “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders regarding our metering and billing systems.

We wish to assure the general public that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy. Our quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards. ECG’s meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide. In addition, all ECG meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for compliance with approved standards before deployment”.

The statement added, “While ECG remains confident in the accuracy and reliability of its meters, we acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns. In line with the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition’s directive, ECG is fully committed to investigating all complaints. These investigations have already commenced.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability. ECG has once again formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test our meters in the laboratory and in the field. GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s report to the Honourable Minister.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has weighed in on the attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers in Lebanon that led to four Ghanaian peacekeepers being wounded.

According to Kwesi Pratt, Ghanaian leaders are incompetent if they don’t know who fired missiles at the Ghanaian soldiers.

Kwesi Pratt is quoted by Metro TV Ghana to have said, “Our leaders are incompetent if they don’t know who fired missiles at the Ghanaian soldiers”.

In related news, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the four Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon are in stable condition following a missile attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon remain in high spirits despite the recent missile attack on their base.

GAF, in its update on Sunday, March 8, 2026, detailed that three of the soldiers sustained minor injuries, while one was critically wounded during the attack.

The statement signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, read, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that following the recent missile attack or he Headquarters of the Ghanaian Battalion serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, four soldiers are injured; three minor and one critical. The critically injured soldier has successfully undergone surgery and is responding to treatment. All injured soldiers are currently in stable condition.

Additionally, fourteen officers whose accommodation was completely burnt down have since been re- kitted, re-accommodated and provided some support. Despite the incident, the Battalion is in high spirits, and morale remains high.

The Ghana Armed Forces expresses its profound gratitude to the general public for the continued solidarity”.

GAF update follows news of the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, which came under two missile attacks amid ongoing clashes between the Israel Defence Forces and Hezbollah.

Three Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured, and one other was left traumatised, while the Officers’ Mess was completely destroyed by fire.

Meanwhile, António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, has issued a formal condemnation following an attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers in Lebanon that led to three Ghanaian peacekeepers being wounded.

According to António Guterres, targeted attacks on “Blue Helmets” may constitute war crimes.

In an official statement, the UN chief stated, “The Secretary-General condemns the incident on Friday, 6 March, which resulted in three Ghanaian peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) being injured inside their position in Al Qawzah, southwestern Lebanon, amidst heavy firing. He wishes a swift and full recovery to the injured peacekeepers”.

“The Secretary-General underscores that the safety and security of UN personnel and property must be respected at all times, and that those responsible must be held accountable. The inviolability of UN installations must be respected by all,” Guterres stated.

“The United Nations urges the parties to de-escalate immediately and fully adhere to their obligations under Security Council resolution 1701 (2006),” the UN chief added.

The Ghanaian peacekeepers wounded are part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which serves as a buffer between Lebanese and Israeli forces.

Reports suggest the soldiers were inside their allocated outpost when the exchange of fire occurred.

In related news, a young Ghanaian Security recruitment applicant has expressed frustration with the government over the ongoing recruitment into the state security services.

According to the young man, the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has disappointed them.

He explained that he has been disqualified from the ongoing recruitment after the aptitude test.

The young Ghanaian Security recruitment applicant detailed that, as a driver, who was applying to the security services, his test should have been based on driving and how to move a car.

Reports suggest the Ghanaian man was disqualified from all three services he applied to join.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, the young Ghanaian man stated, “We must speak the truth in Ghana. Hon Muntaka, you have disappointed us so much. As a driver who has applied for the service, I have gone through the body selection process. All I did is there you can read it, but the aptitude test you are telling me that I have failed.

As a driver aptitude test, what am I using it for?  As a driver, you are supposed to give me a car drive for you to see if I can. But a car was not used to examine anyone, but we are being told that we have failed the aptitude test.

Ghana, if this is how it is going to go, it will not help us”, the Ghanaian man added.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority leader, has called on the John Mahama-led government to abolish the artificial intelligence-based aptitude tests (AI) that were used during the recruitment into Ghana’s security services.

According to Afenyo-Markin, many applicants faced major challenges with the artificial intelligence-based aptitude tests.

The Minority leader highlighted that he is for AI and IT, but someone from Pusiga or Bunkurugu who knows nothing about IT being asked to write an aptitude test using AI makes no sense.

He stressed that the system must be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually, as the military did.  

Afenyo-Markin appealed to the Mahama government to review the current system to ensure that recruitment into the security services remains fair and accessible to all qualified Ghanaian applicants.

Speaking on the floor of the Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, the military did something good. They created a system that allowed people to take the aptitude test directly. If it is possible, the system should be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually”.

“I am for AI. I am for IT. But you cannot suddenly call someone from Pusiga or Bunkurugu who knows nothing about IT and ask them to write an aptitude test using AI. If they don’t have the means, they fail,” he said.

“I think it is a serious system challenge that the ministry would have to look at properly because it is we, the MPs, who are carrying the burden,” he added.

A Ghanaian TikToker identified as Lopez has lamented that some persons are in her DMs threatening to kill her after a series of videos she posted about the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah.

Speaking in another self-recorded video, the TikToker disclosed she is being threatened, and further revealed that she has taken all the videos down.

According to her, she is on TikTok for business and called on Ghanaians to forget the video she posted yesterday, adding that sometimes things just don’t go one’s way, and one must accept it.

TikToker Lopez stated, “Those threatening to kill me in my DMs, with all due respect, I did a video yesterday, and I have taken all the videos down. Sometimes things just don’t go the way you want them to go, and I have to accept reality”.

“I am a very private person. This is the first time I have opened up about my private life, maybe I should have just shut up and mind my business, or swallowed everything”.

“Let’s go back to business. Let’s forget about what I posted. I am on TikTok for business. I am not on this social media to be killed, I am here for business”.

Her remarks follow a video she posted yesterday narrating how the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, was in her DM and even asked her to spend the night with him.

According to the TikToker, Vincent Assafuah texted him less than 5 months ago, and she immediately fell for him after going through his videos and photos on Instagram.

She revealed that she went on a date with him, and she asked the Old Tafo MP whether he had a wife or kids and later disclosed that the MP asked her to spend the night with him, which she refused due to her Christian background.

Lopez stressed that she is pained to know Vincent Assafuah is now married, as she thought she had finally found someone to settle down with after immediately falling for him.

Speaking in a viral self-recorded video, the Ghanaian lady alleged, “This one was in my DM not long ago, I will say less than 5 months, and I come to TikTok today, and I realise that this man is married to another woman.

He was in my DMs. This is the evidence: when he met me, I had been complaining of being single for a long time, so he sent me a DM on Instagram. In my head, I was like, finally, I am coming to know a guy, probably it will lead to marriage.

He texted me in a way that showed he was interested in me as a woman, and I was also interested in him.

I know I am a comic content creator, most of the time I come here to crack jokes, I don’t really talk about my personal life, but this thing has pained me”.

She further added, “I went on a date with this man, I asked him, ‘ Are you married? ‘ He said no, I asked him, ‘Do you have kids he said no’. Sometimes, if you DM a lady and she replies, it does not mean she is a fool. Imagine if I had continued a serious intimate relationship with this man”.   

We went on a date, we had beautiful conversations, he said he wanted to answer an urgent call, so he left me at the restaurant, and he went to stand outside for a long time. So, I was inside the place eating, and when I finished, he texted me asking about the bill. I said the bill was 500 cedis.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned Ghanaian food vendors that the use of melted plastic in frying to enhance the crispiness and shelf life of the product is a direct chemical contamination.

According to the FDA, the melting of plastic in frying oil is a direct chemical contamination of food and renders the product unsafe for human consumption.

The FDA statement follows videos and reports circulating on social media, which alleged that some plantain chip vendors were using melted plastic in frying to enhance the crispiness and shelf life of the product.

The FDA announced that persons found using plastics or polythene in frying plantain chips would be arrested and prosecuted.

According to the FDA, using plastics or polythene in frying plantain constitutes a criminal offence.

In a statement, the FDA urged consumers to remain vigilant and report plantain chips that have an unusual chemical smell, a plastic-like aftertaste, or maintain the same texture for an unusually long period.

The FDA have further announced that they have launched nationwide market surveillance and laboratory testing of plantain chips following allegations.

Parts of the FDA statement read, “Pursuant to Section 100 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), which prohibits the sale of unwholesome or contaminated food, the use of any non-food-grade additive, including plastics, in food preparation is a criminal offence. Any person found engaging in this practice will face the full rigours of the law, including prosecution and permanent closure of their business”.

Meanwhile, a Ghanaian plantain chips seller has claimed there is nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags.

The Plantain chips seller made these claims while she demonstrated how the chips are fried using plastic bags to achieve a crisp finish.

According to the Plantain chips seller, the plastic does not melt into the oil, and as such, arguing that the current public outrage is only being generated by some persons to destroy their businesses.

Speaking in a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, the Plantain chips seller boldly claimed, “There’s nothing wrong with frying plantain chips with plastic bags. Family, look at this; the plantain chips that you claim we fry with plastic bags, I don’t understand. Look at the plastic bag we placed in the oil. It is still the same even after putting it in the hot oil.

So, I don’t understand why Ghanaians have believed the claim that we fry with plastic bags. What at all happens when we put the bag in the oil to fry that you want to spoil our business?” she quizzed.

She further added, “If it’s a deliberate thing you are doing to destroy our businesses, then please stop because you won’t gain anything”.

The Plantain chips trader’s remark has ignited debate on X, with netizens saying, “ Herr education is really good o. Why does she think rubber shrank? Organic chemistry in tears rn”.

One more X user added, “I think you may have misunderstood her point. From what I gathered, she was suggesting that adding plastic to the oil does not make the plantains crispy or enhance their flavour. So, why would anyone add plastic when frying plantains? I could be wrong, but that’s my understanding”.

Anita Desoso, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has threatened to lead a demonstration against her own party leadership and government if things do not change.

According to Anita Desoso, NDC party members are being unfairly treated after toiling to regain power.

Anita Desoso cried out that the party’s faithful are not being given job opportunities in the government, while outsiders are getting positions.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “You go for a meeting, and I wasn’t present, and you dare give a big woman like me GH¢500. Recently, they had another meeting, which I wasn’t able to attend. They called me, and they gave me GH¢1,400. Which means that since we came about 2 years ago, Anita Desoso is now getting GH¢1,900. Is it fair?

“Look at how we have suffered. Is it fair? I’m not only speaking for myself. People have asked me to speak on their behalf, and I’m adding my own frustration. Let’s assume that you are working on catching people who have stolen from the state, which is necessary but has taken too long,” she said.

She added, “We have been in government for over one year. How many years do we have left? If we don’t take care of our home, would the children listen to us if we go back to them? They would not. So, I’m using this media to let leaders know that they must change, otherwise I will lead a demonstration.”

Earlier, Anita Desoso blew an alarm, alleging that some persons within the party are selling appointments.

According to her, certain elements are selling positions in the government even to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who insulted the NDC.

She alleged that the positions are not being sold by the NDC executives, adding that persons who are unknown to the party are receiving appointments while NDC grassroos members have been abandoned.

Anita Desoso urged the leadership of the party to take the grassroots of the party seriously.

Speaking on Atinka TV, Anita Desoso stated, “A lot of our people are lamenting about employment and other issues. The second point is that many NPP people who insulted us have been given appointments.

But this is not the fault of the party leaders… people are selling positions. It is surprising that people we didn’t know and others who were with the NPP during the election have gotten appointments.

“So, a lot of people are angry. My ears are even hurting as people come to my house complaining, and I ask them to be patient. I explain to them that you need your opponents for certain things sometimes, and I also tell them that the NDC and NPP are not enemies, and it is possible that indirectly they contributed to the party’s victory,” she said in the Twi dialect.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told the party’s grassroots that their patience will be vindicated soon.

According to Mustapha Gbande, he is confident that the NDC’s challenges are temporary.

He further called on the NDC grassroots to remain steadfast in their commitment to the party, despite individual actions, adding that party officers are taking note of every situation and will give them serious consideration.

Mustapha Gbande also alleged that pro-NPP accounts are exploiting NDC grassroots frustrations.

According to Mustapha Gbande, most accounts expressing disappointment with the John Mahama-led government and appointees are pro-NPP accounts asserting that some actions of NDC appointees may deviate from party resolve but called on members not to abandon the party, as the pain and struggles shared keep them up at night.

A young Ghanaian Security recruitment applicant has expressed frustration with the government over the ongoing recruitment into the state security services.

According to the young man, the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has disappointed them.

He explained that he has been disqualified from the ongoing recruitment after the aptitude test.

The young Ghanaian Security recruitment applicant detailed that, as a driver, who was applying to the security services, his test should have been based on driving and how to move a car.

Reports suggest the Ghanaian man was disqualified from all three services he applied to join.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, the young Ghanaian man stated, “We must speak the truth in Ghana. Hon Muntaka, you have disappointed us so much. As a driver who has applied for the service, I have gone through the body selection process. All I did is there you can read it, but the aptitude test you are telling me that I have failed.

As a driver aptitude test, what am I using it for?  As a driver, you are supposed to give me a car drive for you to see if I can. But a car was not used to examine anyone, but we are being told that we have failed the aptitude test.

Ghana, if this is how it is going to go, it will not help us”, the Ghanaian man added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “The man has just spilt facts. Wanna leaders for be practical oo. You know the state of the economy, you have a fair idea of those who are applying for these jobs, so you have to consider each and every one. I feel sorry for my man, but it is what it is”.

“The question is, did he meet all the standard requirements and beyond?

Unfortunately, though, but obviously the system can’t take all that is applied, meaning some will be disappointed ultimately.

And please, let’s disabuse our minds from thinking that, once we support a party into political power, we must automatically get jobs”, a netizen quizzed.

“Hon. Muntaka says the recruitment process is orderly. I guess orderly is the new word for watching everyone get rejected in alphabetical order. It’s nice to know the digital reforms are working perfectly to ensure our disappointment is delivered at lightning speed”, a netizen added.

One more Ghanaian added, “While I understand the concerns about the online aptitude test technical glitches, poor internet access in rural areas, and AI-generated questions that may not reflect real-world competence what troubles me far more is a deeper, uncomfortable truth we keep avoiding:

We have young Ghanaians in 2026 who hold WASSCE certificates and university degrees, yet cannot operate a basic PC or sit an online proctored exam. That is not just a recruitment system problem. That is an educational system failure.

If our schools and universities are producing graduates who are digitally illiterate, then no amount of manual testing will fix the real crisis. We’ll just be papering over a wound that needs surgery.

Yes, let’s make the recruitment process fair and accessible. But let’s also demand answers from those responsible for an education system that awards certificates without equipping our youth with the basic digital skills the modern world demands. Both conversations must happen simultaneously”

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority leader, has called on the John Mahama-led government to abolish the artificial intelligence-based aptitude tests (AI) that were used during the recruitment into Ghana’s security services.

According to Afenyo-Markin, many applicants faced major challenges with the artificial intelligence-based aptitude tests.

The Minority leader highlighted that he is for AI and IT, but someone from Pusiga or Bunkurugu who knows nothing about IT being asked to write an aptitude test using AI makes no sense.

He stressed that the system must be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually, as the military did.  

Afenyo-Markin appealed to the Mahama government to review the current system to ensure that recruitment into the security services remains fair and accessible to all qualified Ghanaian applicants.

Speaking on the floor of the Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, the military did something good. They created a system that allowed people to take the aptitude test directly. If it is possible, the system should be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually”.

“I am for AI. I am for IT. But you cannot suddenly call someone from Pusiga or Bunkurugu who knows nothing about IT and ask them to write an aptitude test using AI. If they don’t have the means, they fail,” he said.

“I think it is a serious system challenge that the ministry would have to look at properly because it is we, the MPs, who are carrying the burden,” he added.

The Overlord of GaDangme has summoned the family head of the late Daddy Lumba, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac.  

According to the Ga chiefs, Abusuapanyin Tupac has been summoned in connection with reports and confirmation by Lumba’s family head that the late singer was laid to rest in his private residence in East Legon.

On March 10, 2026, in a letter, the office of Gborbu Wulomo-Shitsɛ, Nungua traditional area, directed Abusuapanyin Tupac to appear before Wor Lumor Konor Nuumo Borkete Laweh Tsuru at the palace in Nungua on March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am.

Parts of the letter read, “This summons arises in connection with reports and public concerns regarding the alleged burial of the late Charles Kojo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) at his private residence located in East Legon, Accra,” part of the statement read.

“As the Family Head (Abusuapanyin) of the late Charles Kojo Fosu, your presence is required to provide the necessary explanation and engagement on the matter in accordance with customary protocols and to assist in addressing the concerns raised”.

“Your cooperation in this matter is highly expected in the interest of maintaining harmony, respect for tradition, and peaceful resolution of the issues raised. Kindly treat this summons with the urgency and respect it deserves,” the statement further indicated.

The development follows Abusuapanyin Tupac, who has said people claiming they do not know where the late musician was buried are telling lies.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, people are claiming ignorance about the burial site when they choose not to attend the singer’s funeral.

Abusuapanyin Tupac further confirmed earlier claims by Afia Schwarzenegger, who stated Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon, Accra.

He detailed that Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon in accordance with his dying wish.

Speaking in an interview with Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Abusuapanyin Tupac questioned, “If you chose not to attend the funeral because you were upset about the court’s verdict, how can you now claim you don’t know where Daddy Lumba was buried? You can’t skip the funeral and expect to know the burial site.

They are lucky that Afia Schwarzenegger made the location of Lumba’s burial known publicly, so saying you don’t know where he was buried is a lie,” he said.

Speaking in a viral self-recorded video, the Ghanaian TikToker alleged, “Looking at the time range, this man texted me. I am sure he was literally planning his wedding with this lady. Because this chat is not more than 5 months old, so calculating the time range he texted me while he was in the process of arranging a marriage with this lady.

After we met, days later, I have been checking up on this man. I have been calling him because I am interested. I was calling, sending DMs, it got to a point where he was not replying to my message, so I sent him this last message: if he knows this is what he was going to do, why did he take my number to ghost me for no reason?

Afenyo-Markin appealed to the Mahama government to review the current system to ensure that recruitment into the security services remains fair and accessible to all qualified Ghanaian applicants.

Speaking on the floor of the Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, the military did something good. They created a system that allowed people to take the aptitude test directly. If it is possible, the system should be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually”.

“I am for AI. I am for IT. But you cannot suddenly call someone from Pusiga or Bunkurugu who knows nothing about IT and ask them to write an aptitude test using AI. If they don’t have the means, they fail,” he said.

“I think it is a serious system challenge that the ministry would have to look at properly because it is we, the MPs, who are carrying the burden,” he added.

In related news, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has retracted and apologised to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, over allegations of fraud he made on the ongoing security service recruitment process.

The minority leader’s apology follows the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who referred the issue to the Privileges Committee over contempt charges.

During parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday, March 4, Afenyo-Markin formally withdrew the comments and expressed regret over the matter.

According to him, he did not do that to hurt or to tarnish the reputation of Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, I will not do that to hurt him or tarnish his reputation, and if the text of my concern reflected so, it is hereby accordingly withdrawn. I assure you that concerns that will arise out of any matter shall be properly brought to his attention”.

Barely 24 hours ago, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin demanded a public hearing over his Trybe Net allegation after he was referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he is ready to appear before the Privileges Committee to present evidence of his allegations.

The minority leader demanded that the Privileges Committee of Parliament hearing on the matter be made in the full glare of the public.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Honourable Minister of Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter. I repeat, because you and I know what we know. Let the referral be made, let there be a public hearing. Let Afenyo-Markin, who these days is seen as perhaps, according to the allegation, saying something untruthful, and because of that, it is a breach of parliamentary privilege. Mr Speaker, you have the wisdom to exercise discretion.

“I will avail myself, should you exercise that discretion, to a public hearing, and then the matter can be brought to a peaceful rest”, he added.

The first Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has told the newly sworn-in member of parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, that he cannot afford to trust the Majority MPs.

According to the NPP MP, Baba Jamal cannot trust the NDC majority in parliament after they called for his disqualification over vote-buying claims made against him in the NDC’s primaries.

Habib Iddrisu further noted that only Asiedu Nketiah stood by Baba Jamal when some NDC MPs were demanding his removal as the parliamentary candidate.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on March 10, 2026, Habib Iddrisu stated, “It is very clear that our colleagues in the majority are now trying to save face after issuing a letter of no confidence in him. It was signed by the 189-member Majority Caucus.

“Mr Speaker, the letter that was signed by the regional caucuses of the majority representing the 189—Baba Jamal, they are not your friends. They don’t like you at all. You are welcome on our side,” he said.

“It is very obvious that the only friend Baba Jamal has in the NDC is the National Chairman of the party. The President fired him before he was declared, and the majority denied him before he was declared. The only person who stood by him was Asiedu Nketiah.

“When you observe what is actually going on in the chamber, I just want to advise Honourable Baba Jamal that even where he is seated is an indication that they do not like him at all,” he added.

In related news, Baba Jamal was officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East by Speaker Bagbin.

Speaking after administering the oath, Speaker Bagbin said, “You voluntarily offered yourself to serve the good people of the Ayawaso East Constituency. In your campaign, you stated that you want to serve them as a member of Parliament,” he told Baba Jamal.

“You are going to serve Ghana, and not as a High Commissioner; I am going to hold you as my son. I will hold you accountable to the good people of the Ayawaso East constituency,” the Speaker added.

Meanwhile, Baba Jamal was declared the winner of the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election after the close of polls on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

At the constituency collation centre, St Kizito Catholic Church in Nima, the EC returning officer declared that Baba Jamal won the election with over 10,884 votes, representing over 63%.

Baba Ali Yussif, the NPP candidate, came in second with 4,009 votes, and independent candidate Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda came third with 1,885 votes.

In total, 17,048 people voted in the by-election across 113 polling stations with 120 rejected ballots.

Speaking to the media after he was declared the winner of the by-election, Baba Jamal stated, “I dedicate this victory to my 93-year-old mother, who promised to support me and ensured that one day I would return to Parliament. Today, her vision and wish have come true. I thank Allah for her life. I also want to thank my wife and my children for their spirit of endurance and the sacrifices they have made”.

“I thank Almighty Allah for granting us this victory. This win is not for me alone; it is for the good people of Ayawaso East. I appreciate them for the confidence they have shown in me by electing me as their parliamentary candidate.

“I also extend special thanks to the national executives of the NDC, including the chairman and the general secretary, as well as the Greater Accra regional executives,” he added.

Audit report on Akufo-Addo’s 1D1F exposes GH¢89.4m debt, missing GH¢10m

An Audit report carried out on the former Akufo-Addo government’s flagship One District One Factory (1DIF) programme has revealed shocking financial misappropriation.

The audit report produced by the Ghana Audit Service in partnership with EY and PwC showed that millions of state funds were almost stolen under the One-District One-Factory (1DIF).

On Monday, March 10, 2026, the findings presented to the Parliament of Ghana were delivered by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem on behalf of Cassiel Ato Forson.

According to the audit report, the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2024 requested the release of GH¢89.4 million to five commercial banks as the government’s contribution toward interest; however, all five institutions reportedly denied being owed any money by the government.

The Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem detailed, “The then Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2024 submitted a request of GH¢89.4 million to the Ministry of Finance to be transferred to five commercial banks as a government contribution to interest payments under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative. The Ministry of Finance subsequently processed the same to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for payment.

“This particular request was part of BTAs sitting at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, awaiting cash for payment. When auditors contacted these five banks to confirm the liability, every single one of them denied being owed any amount by the government under the said arrangement. According to the auditors, the said GH¢89.4 million debt was fictitious. Without the audit intervention, a whopping GH¢89.4 million of hard-earned public money could have been disbursed to settle this non-existent liability,” he said.

Also, the Deputy Minister further disclosed that the audit also uncovered another questionable transaction involving a reported GH¢10.5 million payment into a so-called “Buffer Account” at a commercial bank.

“Rt. Hon. Speaker, payment of GH¢10.5 million was recorded as having been made into an account named the ‘Buffer Account’ at a commercial bank. Upon verification, the bank confirmed that it had never received such a payment. The account number cited did not exist within the bank’s records and did not even conform to its account numbering format,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Mahama government has since announced plans to subject the Akufo-Addo government’s entire One District One Factory programme to a full forensic audit.

According to Deputy Minister Ampem, the review is necessary given the scale of public funds involved.

He disclosed that the government had disbursed about GH¢391 million in interest subsidies for the programme as of the end of 2024.

“Mr Speaker, only God knows how much of taxpayers’ money has been lost to similar fictitious claims,” he said.

In related news, a member of Parliament’s Finance Committee has said the Auditor-General’s report should lead to prosecutions, not scare tactics.

Dr Kabiru Tiah Mahama highlighted that the Auditor-General’s Report on Arrears and Payables as at the end of 2024 should lead to prosecutions.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, March 10, Dr Tiah Mahama stated, “Exposing these things are good, but my problem is that they are not doing it with the intention actually to punish people. They are doing it to create a scare”.

“We fully support any decision to ensure accountability and transparency and to make sure people involved in financial malpractices are dealt with in accordance with the law. However, we do not support the idea of presenting people as guilty before they are heard or before their cases are determined in court,” he added.

Why former Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu was arrested and cautioned

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has said the former Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, was arrested, interrogated and cautioned by the state in 2025.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, claims that no action has been taken against him are untrue.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that Kwaku Agyemang-Manu will be taken to court and charged in the coming weeks over the Sputnik V vaccine case and the COVID-19 frontier case over procurement violations and causing financial loss to the State.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on March 10, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu detailed, “There is a Sputnik V vaccine case involving Kwaku Agyemang Manu. I noticed that he’s been in the news, engaging in bluster and claiming that nobody has touched me. That is not true. He was arrested. He was interrogated, questioned, and cautioned. There are two dockets in respect of him: the Sputnik V case, and then the COVID-19 frontier case.

“So in the next few weeks, the Attorney General will be taking him to court, and he will charge him formally,” he disclosed.

The claim that he has not been touched is palpably false. He was arrested by the NIB a couple of months ago last year. He was interrogated, and he wrote a caution statement.

“The docket on him has been built – two of them… There are cases of positive financial loss to the state and what have you, and things that he did that violated the procurement laws, and what have you, and several other charges that the Attorney General would be referring against,” he said.

His comment comes on the heels of Kwaku Agyemang Manu, who had fired shots at the NDC government following claims they made against him in opposition.

According to Kwaku Agyemang Manu, despite the NDC’s claims in opposition, he walks free without arrest or intimidation.

He asserted that the NDC in opposition stated he would be arrested and locked up, but after a year in office, he is still free.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X,  Kwaku Agyemang-Manu stated, “I’m not that desperate; I have not been crying for help. Some people said either I would fall sick or die, but here I stand. Some said I would be arrested and locked up. A year has passed, and here I stand”.

In this world, if you are truthful… not every person would like what you are doing. No matter what you do, you would certainly step on someone’s foot. But when you step on someone’s foot, and you apologise, and the person accepts, great,” he said.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of Kwaku Agyemang-Manu in 2020, paid UNICEF/AVAT over 120 million dollars for Coronavirus vaccines but failed to receive all vaccines from the supplier.

“Ministry of Health, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, paid an amount of US$120,192,379.80 to UNICEF/AVAT for the supply of vaccines. However, 5,109,600.00 doses of vaccines valued at US$38,322,000.00 were supplied to the National Cold Room, leaving a difference of US$81,870,379.80 with UNICEF/AVAT,” the 2022 Auditor General’s report stated.

“This led to public agitation, with critics demanding the retrieval of the over US$80 million at UNICEF/AVAT and also calling for heads to roll.

Also, Kwaku Agyemang Manu was accused of allowing Frontier Health Service Limited to operate without a licence during COVID-19.

“Kwaku Agyemang Manu, appearing before the appointment committee in 2021, explained the decision to allow Frontier Health Service Limited to start testing for COVID-19 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) before eventually being licensed.

During his vetting, Agyemang Manu admitted to a question posed by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that the company was allowed to start operating when it had not been granted a permit.

The North Tongu MP said the company started operating on September 1, 2020, but was licensed on November 3, the same year, after it had already commenced operations”.

In answering, the Health Minister-designate at the time explained: “In the pandemic, we had a phrase we were using. We said that we were not in normal times.

“There were certain things that we had to do and try to rectify as we go forward because of the urgency of the situation.”

Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Finance Minister, has disclosed that 35 contractors under the Agenda 111 initiative received US$7.9 million in mobilisation funds, but they failed to deliver work equal to the payments.

According to Thomas Nyarko Ampem, an Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables, as at the end of 2024, uncovered significant irregularities under the Agenda 111 project.

The Deputy Minister disclosed that the audit findings showed that some contractors who took the US$7.9 million did not mobilise to their respective sites, and others also failed to deliver work.

Speaking on the floor of parliament while presenting the Report of the Auditor-General on Arrears and Payables as at the end of 2024 in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, Mr Nyarko Ampem stated, “Mr Speaker, the audit of Agenda 111 projects also revealed that a total amount of US$7.9 million was paid to 35 contractors as advance mobilisation under the programme, but these contractors have either failed to mobilise to the site or the work done is not commensurate with the amount paid”.

“The advance mobilisation guarantees secured by the 35 contractors who received the US$7.9 million have all expired. The Auditor General has subsequently issued notices of surcharge to the offending contractors,” he added.

Close to ¢50 million frozen in Wontumi’s accounts – Kwakye Ofosu reveals

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a Government spokesperson, has revealed that close to ¢50 million belonging to Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been frozen.

The Government spokesperson disclosed that the ¢50 million belonging to Wontumi has been frozen as part of ongoing investigations into suspected financial crimes.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated, “For instance, in Chairman Wontumi’s case alone, close to ¢50 million of money in his account has been frozen.”

“Similar figures are involved in the former Signals Bureau boss, Adu Boahen, case, for instance, in the National Service case and many others.”

“But for now, what they can do is to freeze it, and they have done it, ¢1.5 billion.”

“They are not going to be able to recover until the persons involved have been convicted by a court that then will give you an illegal remit to recover whatever it is that is alleged to have or the court would have found to have been stolen”, he added.

It will be recalled that Dr Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, also revealed that Chairman Wontumi’s assets have been frozen.

Addressing the media in Accra on Monday, December 22, the Attorney General revealed that Wontumi’s assets have been frozen, including a  ₵50 million account belonging to his insurance company.

The Attorney General made this known while also disclosing that Wontumi forged a receipt to secure a GH¢4m EXIM bank loan. 

According to the Attorney-General, Chairman Wontumi and his company, Wontumi Farms Limited, made fraudulent misrepresentations to Exim Bank to obtain the loan facility.

He revealed that investigations conducted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office revealed evidence of defrauding by false pretences, forgery, and causing financial loss to the state.

Dr Dominic Ayine announced that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, chief promoter of Wontumi Farms, Exim Bank approved a medium term-loan facility of Ghs18,734,260.00, which included a grant component of Ghs6,768,260.00.

This offer was accepted via a letter dated January 23, 2018, and Chairman Wontumi, acting as the Chief Executive Officer of Wontumi Farms Limited and Thomas Antwi Boasiako, as director of Wontumi Farms Limited.

The invoice was submitted on December 15, 2017, as part of the loan application process.

Subsequently, Exim Bank demanded proof that the equipment had been purchased. On March 18, 2018, Chairman Wontumi submitted a receipt from Kas-Sama Enterprise for the purchase of the equipment in the sum of Ghs4 Million.

However, and this is where it gets interesting, the equipment purchased, as shown on the said receipt, included a bulldozer and an excavator.

Dr Dominic Ayine detailed, “Our investigations established that Chairman Wontumi had approached Kas-Sama Enterprise, an industrial equipment dealer and obtained an invoice with a promise to return to purchase the said equipment. He never went back to purchase the equipment. Instead, he forged the invoice he obtained from Kas-Sama Enterprise by removing the word “invoice” and replacing it with “receipt”.

This forged receipt was then submitted to Exim Bank as proof that he had purchased the said equipment after the disbursement.

The owner of Kas-Sama Enterprise confirmed to investigators that the only document he issued to Wontumi Farms through Chairman Wontumi was an invoice and not a receipt.

He stated that after he issued the invoice, he never heard from Chairman Wontumi again despite repeated follow-upcalls.

The forged receipt submitted to Exim Bank suggested that Kas-Sama Enterprise acknowledged receipt of Four Million Ghana Cedis for the purchase of earth-moving machines and farming equipment. The so-called receipt had on it “50 days to supply and 1 year guarantee and service, meaning that it was a pro-form invoice and not a receipt of payment”.

The Attorney General further revealed that prosecution will commence after the Christmas break, following the exact amount being confirmed by EXIM Bank.

He added, “In the face of the evidence we have gathered in this investigation, thoroughly conducted by EOCO, we have made the decision to prosecute Wontumi farms, and it’s directors with defrauding by false pretences, forgery and causing financial loss to the state in the sum of GHS24,255,735.

“This figure represents the principal sum plus the interest that has accrued so far. By the time we file charges, which will definitely be after the Christmas break, it might be that this figure would have increased because the interest on the principal keeps compounding. “So we will get the exact figure of the amount that is involved in this criminal enterprise from the EXIM bank before we file charges in court.”

In a statement issued on its X page on March 8, 2026, responding to the concerns, GoldBod Jewellery stated, “GoldBod Jewellery Limited is listed as one of the partners of this year’s Women of Valour event because the company offered discounts on jewellery purchases to participants of the programme as part of our ongoing Ghana Heritage Month promotions, similar to our Valentine’s Month discounts”.

“The company did not contribute funds toward the organisation of the event,” the statement added.

The statement further added, “At GoldBod Jewellery, we focus on manufacturing and retailing timeless pieces of made-in-Ghana jewellery for our valued customers in Ghana and abroad”.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has said the former Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, was arrested and interrogated by the state in 2025.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, claims that no action has been taken against him are untrue.

He further revealed that Kwaku Agyemang-Manu will be taken to court and charged in the coming weeks over the Sputnik V vaccine case.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on March 10, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu detailed, “I noticed that he’s been in the news, engaging in bluster and claiming that nobody has touched me. That is not true. He was arrested. He was interrogated, questioned, and cautioned. There are two dockets in respect of him: the Sputnik V case, and then the COVID-19 frontier case.

“So in the next few weeks, the Attorney General will be taking him to court, and he will charge him formally,” he disclosed.

“The docket on him has been built – two of them… There are cases of positive financial loss to the state and what have you, and things that he did that violated the procurement laws, and what have you, and several other charges that the Attorney General would be referring against,” he said.

His comment comes on the heels of Kwaku Agyemang Manu, who had fired shots at the NDC government following claims they made against him in opposition.

According to Kwaku Agyemang Manu, despite the NDC’s claims in opposition, he walks free without arrest or intimidation.

He noted that the NDC in opposition stated he would be arrested and locked up, but after a year in office, he is still free.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X,  Kwaku Agyemang-Manu stated, “I’m not that desperate; I have not been crying for help. Some people said either I would fall sick or die, but here I stand. Some said I would be arrested and locked up. A year has passed, and here I stand”.

In this world, if you are truthful… not every person would like what you are doing. No matter what you do, you would certainly step on someone’s foot. But when you step on someone’s foot, and you apologise, and the person accepts, great,” he said.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of Kwaku Agyemang-Manu in 2020, paid UNICEF/AVAT over 120 million dollars for Coronavirus vaccines but failed to receive all vaccines from the supplier.

“Ministry of Health, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, paid an amount of US$120,192,379.80 to UNICEF/AVAT for the supply of vaccines. However, 5,109,600.00 doses of vaccines valued at US$38,322,000.00 were supplied to the National Cold Room, leaving a difference of US$81,870,379.80 with UNICEF/AVAT,” the 2022 Auditor General’s report stated.

“This led to public agitation, with critics demanding the retrieval of the over US$80 million at UNICEF/AVAT and also calling for heads to roll.

The report also noted that records on COVID-19 funds at the Ministry of Finance, Controller and Accountant-General and Ministry of Health indicated that the Ministry of Finance mobilised a total amount of GH¢19,112,318,205.12 in 2020 to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The records showed that an amount of GH¢1,978,551,137.46 was mobilised in 2021 and GH¢753,319,842.66 (up to June 2022) to finance the Coronavirus Alleviation Programme and the implementation of the Ghana COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.

In all, a total amount of GH¢21,844,189,185.24 was mobilised to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic”, reports added.

During his vetting, Agyemang Manu admitted to a question posed by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that the company was allowed to start operating when it had not been granted a permit.

The North Tongu MP said the company started operating on September 1, 2020, but was licensed on November 3, the same year, after it had already commenced operations”.

In answering, the Health Minister-designate at the time explained: “In the pandemic, we had a phrase we were using. We said that we were not in normal times.

“There were certain things that we had to do and try to rectify as we go forward because of the urgency of the situation.”

2 Police Officers die in Ofoase-Ayirebi road accident 

Two police officers have reportedly died following a road accident on the Ofoase–Ayirebi road.

The deceased officers have been identified as G/LCpl. Anti Isaac and G/Const. Thomas Allonyor were said to be riding a motorbike when it collided with a packed tricycle.

Reports suggest the officers were off duty at the time of the collision, which reportedly resulted in their deaths.

According to reports, Lance Corporal Anti died instantly at the scene; however, Constable Thomas, who sustained serious injuries and was bleeding heavily, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the Brenase Health Centre for medical attention.

The information gathered suggests the owner of the tricycle fled the scene after realising that the victims were police officers.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

In related police news, the Wa High Court, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, sentenced Serial killer Shariff Abdulai, also known as “Cristos,” to life imprisonment with hard labour for the murder of Issah Yahaya and twenty-two others.

Police statement detailed that the convict admitted killing sixteen people in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.

He was arrested on October 6, 2025, after intelligence-led operations and investigations.

He was later arraigned before the High Court after committal from the District Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty.

Presiding Judge, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, convicted and sentenced him, and he will serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

In a statement issued on March 4, 2026, the Police stated, “On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the High Court in Wa sentenced Shariff Abdulai, alias ‘Cristos’, to life imprisonment for the murder of Issah Yahava and twenty-two (22) others.

The convict pleaded guilty to killing sixteen (16) people in Wa, five (5) in Bole and one (1) each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.

On October 6, 2025, Police arrested the convict following sustained, intelligence-led operations and investigations.

He was subsequently arraigned before the High Court on March 4, 2026, after committal from the District Magistrate Court. The accused was represented by counsel and pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charge. Upon his own plea, the presiding Judge, His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, sentenced him to life imprisonment In Hard Labour.

The convict is to serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The Command reaffirm its unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law and will not relent in its efforts to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for law-abiding citizens”.

Paul Adom-Otchere, a renowned broadcaster, has fired shots at the John Dramani Mahama-led government over its scaled-down Independence Day celebration since it assumed office.

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Mahama government’s reduction in expenditure for the Independence Day celebration is hurting ordinary Ghanaians who used to make some money during the celebrations.

Paul Adom-Otchere highlighted that the Mahama government’s decision is denying Ghanaians the joy of celebrating the country’s independence with the drastic cut of its expenditure.

He further argued that the Mahama government is incurring unnecessary expenses that benefit only a few, like the renaming og the Kotoka International Airport.  

Speaking during a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Adom Otchere stated, “The Independence spending, while it is government spending, is a major stimulant of the economy in all of those places. So the budget of 17 million cedis that is applied, they buy 4000 flags made by Ghanaians. They know that every march, so they prepare for it. Lord Commey used to be in charge of it”.

Ashanti region gets theirs, Brong Ahafo region, the GES also get their Independence budget for rehearsals, they contact the kenkey seller, and on Independence day, they give the children food. That is what it is about; it is not about any politician spending money”.

“President Mahama has been there before he knows it. Independent spending across the country is an economic stimulant. Our problem is not spending. Our concern is that when the government is spending, it must spend on things that benefit the people, not on itself”.

“The Independence spending goes right down to the grassroots of your political party, right down to the basic end of the society, everybody benefits from Ghana’s independence. That is why people are saying that the Independence vibe is gone. It is a point of National Unity, and you spend taxpayers’ money on that, that is not what you should be cutting, you should be cutting other things”, he added.

Adom-Otchere further added, “You rename Kotoka International Airport and pay money to who? One contractor. Independence (celebration) is going to thousands of people, you won’t pay. The greatest good is to the greatest number of people. I don’t know how the government is going to sustain a very dull 70th anniversary celebration of Ghana’s independence… Is that what is going to happen? The march bonuses of all the kenkey sellers are gone. The people who make flags, march bonuses, gone.

“John Mahama has taken it. He doesn’t want to share it. But when it’s about them, they do it. The ministers bought cars. Goldboard has money. It’s with people. We see all these things, but the very basic guy, you say that I don’t want to spend, and you are presenting it as prudence. That is why you are hearing the noises you are hearing. I’m not making those noises. That is what all the media are saying: ‘Ah, is this really Independence Day?’” he lamented.

The Renowned broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere added, “You (sic) send them zero cedis. You send Kumasi zero, you send Secondi zero, and Azim zero. District assembly, zero. North Dayi, zero, everywhere, zero. Then we go home. Quiet. Are we not independent? Are we not proud of it anymore? Do we not want to be the Black Star of Africa anymore? Why are we quenching the fire of the nation with these settings and overzealous ‘I’m not corrupt’… Nobody has told you not to chase your ghost, not to chase shadows. Present what the people of Ghana are used to”.

We should be able to do this every month, but you can’t do it every month. So, at least, that sacred March event, let it go,” he said, arguing that the over GH¢17 million spent on Independence Day celebrations by the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government was insignificant, looking at the size of Ghana’s economy”.

Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, has said this year’s Independence Day celebration costed Ghana about GH¢1.5 million.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on March 5, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “It is to save cost. We have decided to save money and use it for other pressing national issues. It will cost 95 per cent less than the previous cost, and that amounts to about GH¢1.5 million”.

Sixty-nine years of nationhood is a very significant achievement,”

He added, “Over the years, we have had our ups and downs as a country, but by and large, we have managed to hold ourselves together. We’ve built a nation that is inclusive, where there is religious and social tolerance”.

“Even if we’ve had setbacks, we’ve also made incremental progress. Since the advent of this government, a lot has been done to improve the economy. The economy is in much better shape than it was before”.

Anita Desoso, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has alleged that the party under the John Mahama have filled the Jubilee House with strangers.

According to Anita Desoso, she only knows about 10 per cent of the appointees at Jubilee House who are party members.

Speaking in an interview on TV XYZ, Anita Desoso lashed out at the John Dramani Mahama government over the treatment of members of her party.

The former Vice Chairman and Women’s Organiser lashed out that NDC members are crying over the lack of appointment, adding that strangers and the NPP members are being appointed by the government.

According to Anita Desoso, government appointments are being given to non-NDC members, citing her appointment as a board member of the National Population Council.

He further disclosed that she would have left that appointment if not for the love of the NDC, adding that other members on the board are strangers in the NDC.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “If we want to win the next election or if we want our party to continue to be strong, we must do things to make members of our party happy. But if we do nothing, assume that we (the party members) are angels, and we keep sending NPP members to where they are not supposed to be, and NDC members keep crying, I think it is not the best.

“Let me use myself as an example. I have been appointed to the board of the National Population Council… if not for God, I would have left already. I would have left already if not for God and the party”.

She added, “I don’t know any person there, and so when we go for meetings, I just sit down quietly and look at them. I don’t know where they were picked from. At least if I knew them, then we would know how to discuss issues to find solutions.”

“You can just imagine, I was late for one of the meetings, and I could not get there early. I was called later, and when I went, I was given GH¢500. What will Anita Desoso do with GH¢500? Look at the number of people I support, and I’m being given GH¢500. As soon as the money was given to me, I gave it to my driver”.

“People are lamenting, why have they taken A while B is there, who can help us? In the elections, we did not just get up to win the election; people suffered. If you like, go to the Flagstaff House (Jubilee House) and see something. When I go there, those I know are not even 10 per cent. People are already saying they are tired, they are not going to vote anymore”, Anita Desoso added.

Meanwhile, Gabriella Tetteh, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has said the party’s future flagbearer must tell members of their formula of appointment before they decide to support them.

According to Gabriella Tetteh, at the next NDC congress meeting, they should consider a new resolution for all aspiring flagbearers to provide members with a formula for their appointments.

She disclosed that party members must know, in terms of percentage, how the flagbearer wants to appoint party members, friends and family members, the general public and other political party members, so they can also adjust how much of their time, energy and resources they give to their dreams.

In a Facebook post, Gabriella Tetteh wrote, “The next congress should consider a new resolution for all aspiring flagbearers to provide us with a formula for their appointments. % party, % members, % friends & family, % general public and % other political parties, so we adjust how much of our time, energy and resources we give their dreams. By the way, don’t come under this post to pontificate.

A widely purported video claiming to be a video of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings flying an aircraft under the Adomi Bridge during its early construction has resurfaced.

In the viral video shared, an aircraft was flown under a bridge.

However,  checks by ghana.dubawa.org some years ago revealed the footage shows aerobatic pilot Jurgis Kairys performing the daring manoeuvre beneath a bridge in Kaunas, Lithuania, in the year 2000.

The video has once again resurfaced after a former Chief of Air Staff, retired Air Commodore K. K. Pumpuni, has deflated long-standing assertions that the late Jerry John Rawlings once flew an aircraft under the Adomi Bridge.

According to the former Chief of Air Staff, he was in charge of operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened, adding that if Rawlings had indeed flown under the Adomi Bridge, he would have court-martialled him.

Speaking in an interview with  Kafui Dey shared on X on Monday, March 9, 2026, the retired Air Commodore stated, “There was a claim that Rawlings flew under the Adomi Bridge, and I said no, he didn’t. Some Ghanaians reacting to Air Commodore K.K. Pumpuni(rtd) revelation stated, “Why are we trying to destroy all our stories? It started from who brought cocoa to Ghana, and now this, but we don’t question the stories of the whiteman. WHY?”.

“Why did he not say this when man was alive. Only a bloody liar waits for someone to die before he/she says something about the dead”, a netizen added.

In related news, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam has revealed that the late former President Jerry John Rawlings would not have joined the army if not for the Air Force Commander’s personal decision.

According to Retired Major General Jerry John Rawlings, at the time failed his examinations and should have been disqualified, but the Air Force Commander took a personal decision to keep him as he was a good pilot.

Retired Major General explained that the commanders saw Rawlings as a nice chap whom they could handle, but it was to their own peril.

Speaking with Kafui Dey in a video shared on Facebook, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam explained, “June 4th, if anybody had told me it was coming, I wouldn’t have believed it. I just finished my service in Kumasi as commander and moved to Accra as Chief of Staff. I was then a Brigadier General”. 

According to the former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, he never met Rawlings at Achimota School, but added that he was aware of him.

“In fact, he always looked crafy to me. It was the Air Force Commander’s personal decision, despite the fact that he wasn’t passing his exams, that he was a good pilot and should be kept. If the rules had been applied, Rawlings wouldn’t have been in the service. They all thought he was a nice chap; they could handle him, to their peril,” he added.

Major General (rtd) Sam also stressed that some top military officers were needlessly and unwarrantably killed when Rawlings took over the country.

He recounted that Amedume’s crime was that he had taken an Armed Forces loan to buy a house, revealing that if that was his crime, he was also guilty.

Retired Air Commodore K.K. Pumpuni has disclosed that he survived three plane crashes during his career as an Air Force pilot.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey shared on X on Monday, March 9, 2026, the retired Air Commodore was asked about his scariest experience in a plane when he recounted, “I have come out of 3 plane crashes. The first one was in Takoradi. My instructor and I took off, and when we got to about 500 ft, he pulled the throttle, which is the accelerator, back so there was no power.

“I looked at the height and said to myself, I would go back and land on the runway. I started turning and came all the way, ending in a heavy landing, which damaged the left undercarriage. It wasn’t serious, and I knew I could do it. We didn’t get injured,” he said.

“We hit and went off the runway to the side. Fire service quickly dashed there to check on us,” he added.

He further disclosed, “The second crash was in Ho. We had a small laterite airstrip. We landed there, and we overshot the runway and went off before stopping. We called the soldiers who came and pushed the aircraft back. I started it again to monitor. Of course, we reported to headquarters and told them what had happened”.

“The runway was very short and needed an experienced hand to use it, and at that time, I don’t think I was much experienced,” he added.

“The other incident, three planes were flying in a formation and I was in the second plane and in a turn, the other plane came all the way and hit my wing. We were fortunate,” he stated.

He revealed that he and his colleagues survived the incidents without serious injuries, but disclosed that their safety was due to training and swift responses during emergencies.

In that same interview, retired Air Commodore K. K. Pumpuni has deflated long-standing assertions that the late Jerry John Rawlings once flew an aircraft under the Adomi Bridge.

According to the former Chief of Air Staff, he was in charge of operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened, adding that if Rawlings had indeed flown under the Adomi Bridge, he would have court-martialled him.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned teachers not to leave their classrooms to demonstrate, visit the headquarters in Accra, or speak to the media with their concerns during school hours.

According to the GES, Teachers who have concerns should follow the proper process by reporting to their Heads of School, then the District and Regional Directorates if necessary.

The GES further added that any teacher found absent from duty or appearing in media interviews during a protest school hours could face disciplinary action.

In a directive dated March 9, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES stated, “Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has observed a growing trend in which some teachers, particularly newly recruited staff, frequently besiege the Headquarters, form unrecognised splinter groups, or engage the media regarding their concerns”.

“These actions often occur during official school hours, with teachers leaving their duty posts without recourse to their Heads of School, District Directorates, or Regional Directorates.”

“The teaching profession is a noble one governed by a Code of Conduct. Every member of staff is mandated to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in strict compliance with this Code,” the statement added.

The GES statement further added, “Teachers with concerns regarding any issue are required to first lodge such concerns with their Heads of School, and subsequently escalate them through the District and Regional Directorates, as appropriate”.

“Any teacher who leaves their duty post and is found at the Headquarters or elsewhere during official school hours, or who is captured on video or audio granting media interviews or participating in related activities during such hours, shall be treated under ‘Absence from Duty’ as stipulated in the Code of Conduct,” the directive stressed.

“District Directors and Heads of School must record any instance of teacher absenteeism and report it to Management,” the statement said.

However, the GES assured teachers that their concerns would be addressed through the right channels.

“Management assures all staff that their welfare remains a priority and reiterates its firm commitment to addressing legitimate concerns through due process and structured engagement,” it stated.

93 Nigerians arrested over internet fraud and immigration-related breaches – GIS

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced the arrest of 93 Nigerian nationals for alleged involvement in internet fraud and immigration-related breaches.

According to the GIS, 73 victims were also rescued during a national operation that targeted six houses within the Devtraco Estate.

Officers also seized counterfeit US dollars, fake gold bars, 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones and 17 television sets believed to have been used to support their activities.

Investigations revealed that some suspects entered Ghana through unapproved routes, while others overstayed their 90-day visa-free stay. The rescued victims have since been repatriated to Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Immigration Service on March 9, 2026, it read, “The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 93 Nigerian Nationals, comprising 91 males and 2 females, for alleged involvement in internet fraud and immigration-related breaches.

The intelligence-led operation led by Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Newman Akuffo, from the National Operations of the (GIS), targeted six houses within the DEVTRACO Estate, successfully rescuing 73 victims who had endured severe torture and abuse at the hands of the suspects”.

He further added, “Items confiscated during the operation included counterfeit US dollars, fake gold bars, 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, 17 television sets, and other household appliances being used to support their activities.

Investigations by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) revealed that some suspects entered Ghana via unapproved routes, while others overstayed their 90-day visa-free entry, Further probes continue at GIS National Headquarters, and the 73 rescued victims have been repatriated to Nigeria.

The Comptroller General of Immigration urges all foreign nationals to comply with Ghanaian laws. The Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694) prohibits recruiting, transporting, or harbouring individuals through force, fraud, or abuse for exploitation. Penalties include 5-20 years imprisonment (life for child victims or aggravating factors) plus fines.

Additionally, under the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act -573), entering via unapproved routes or overstaying visas is criminal. Convicted offenders face summary conviction, fines, and 3 months to 2 years imprisonment”.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians reacting to the news of the Nigerian arrest stated, “It’s heartbreaking to see how many of these young people were actually victims of human trafficking and torture. A big salute to the GIS for not only stopping the fraud but rescuing 73 people from those conditions”.

“I think you people need to do a follow-up to see what the end game is.. because a Nigerian on TikTok named aproudnigerian1 alleges that they take their money only to release them back”, a netizen added.

“They were arrested just to be extorted. How many of them FBI agents have come to arrest in Ghana, and how many Ghanaians have your police have arrested, yet the FBI keep coming for them”, one X user added.

A netizen added, “Is this not the same immigration that allowed them to enter without vetting them? They will be deported and will still sneak in through beat 10 and enter Ghana again”.

“It is not enough to just arrest them, we need a transparent legal process that ensures they are jailed for their crimes, while also tightening our borders to ensure everyone entering Ghana is properly documented”, one more X user added.

Meanwhile, Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Technologies, Sam George, has said the ₵399 MTN data bundle is attracting Nigerian Criminals to Ghana.

According to Sam George, the Nigerian High Commission to Ghana revealed this to him, saying Ghana’s cheap internet bundle and stable electricity are the things attracting Nigerian Criminals to Ghana.

Speaking to the media following President John Dramani Mahama’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address (SONA), Sam George stated, “On that bundle, the Nigerian High Commission to Ghana said to me it is the reason why we are seeing a lot of Nigerian criminals coming into Ghana.

John Agyekum Kufuor, the former President of Ghana, has said that poor pay remuneration within the public sector is fueling corruption.

According to John Agyekum Kufuor, policymakers need to confront the issue by overhauling public sector remuneration in Ghana.

John Agyekum Kufuor highlighted that Ghana’s current salary structure for civil servants and political office creates conditions where corruption can become a coping mechanism.

He stressed that improving governance requires paying public servants competitively, adding that there is a need for strict enforcement against persons who engage in corrupt practices.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, John Agyekum Kufuor stated, “We are in the era of science and technology. Science keeps researching and refining things, and people who tend to be bright, not all of them will use their brilliance for fair and good purposes. So, sophistication is really deepening corrupt practices.

People will still try to get away with their smartness. A poor remuneration system, which our society somehow finds shy in tackling, is one of the sources of corruption, given our situation,” he said.

In related news, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Convener of the Democracy Hub activist and lawyer, has announced plans to drag the John Mahama-led government to court over alleged crooked public sector recruitments.

The lawyer and activist highlighted that over the past few months, many people have been hired into the public sector to quietly fill roles without any advertisement of the positions.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Public sector employment cannot operate like a private favour system, adding that government jobs are paid for by the public purse and must be open to the public.

A netizen added, “Since I was born, I have never seen BOG, COCOBOD, SSNIT, GNPC, GCB, NIB announce general recruitment before. I did my service at NIB some years back, new staff came in every month, but there was never an announcement for recruitment”.

“For years Audit Service has never responded to recruitment applications. Many qualified accountants who wholeheartedly want to serve the nation are denied the opportunity because they do not have any connections. Retiring Staff hire their children to replace them .. ITS A CARTEL”, one more Ghanaian added.

“Just the dirty politics both parties do. Nepotism, if the party is in power, they employ party members, even if they do not qualify, and why would they advertise, when they know there are people well qualified out there, when they can put a loyal party member there. Hmm!”, a netizen added.

Clash between Gbeniyiri residents and herdsmen kills 5

A clash between Gbeniyiri residents and herdsmen in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region has killed five, with five others injured.

Reports suggest two of the five deceased have already been buried in Sawla, with the three others deposited at the morgue of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Hospital.

Also, the injured are said to be receiving treatment at various health facilities.

The information gathered from the graphic online disclosed that “the violence erupted after a resident was killed during a robbery attack in the area. Relatives of the victim are reported to have launched reprisal attacks on herdsmen accused of involvement in the robbery”.

The District Chief Executive for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Senitina Saaka, confirmed the news.

The DCE explained that the violence was believed to have been triggered by a robbery incident in one of the suburbs, during which a victim was killed after resisting attackers in the bush.

According to Senitina Saaka, the killing sparked retaliation attacks by relatives of the deceased, which successively powered the current violence and casualties in the area.

The DCE added that security has been beefed up in the area and investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

In related news, some weeks ago, a video surfaced of a Winneba youth clash that led to the death of one person and injury to others in the Central Region.

In the viral video, some men with machetes were captured assaulting another person who was loading some stuff in the boot of a Trotro van.

The man was slapped with the machete several times on the head.

Reports suggest the violent clash was between two youth factions in Sankor, Winneba.

ACP Ibrahim Opoku, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander, confirmed that several persons got injured in the clash, which occurred on Sunday, January 25.

The Ghana Police have since arrested multiple suspects following an examination of the videos of the event.

According to reports, one individual identified as Excoba has died from multiple machete wounds and gunshot wounds he sustained during the clash.

The exact cause of the clash remains unclear, as viral videos of members of the factions inflicting machete wounds are viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has intensified operations in the community with calm restored.

Some netizens reacted to the viral video, saying, “And pan Africanists want to tell me the whiteman is more wicked than a nigga lol”.

“Let no MP, either NDC or NPP, interfere with this arrest. Ghana cannot develop with this lawlessness. Police should arrest them and jail them”, another Ghanaian added. 

Another Ghanaian added, “This is really sad and worrying. Such violence shouldn’t be part of our communities. Prayers for the family of the deceased and for peace in Sankor”.

Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, the Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), has disclosed that the SIM registration exercise is intended to correct flaws identified during previous registrations.

The NCA Director-General asserted that the exercise would be the third official SIM registration process undertaken in Ghana.

He, however, disclosed that the first registration exercise conducted in 2011 was done without an effective system to verify identification documents, adding that the second registration sought subscribers to register their SIM cards using the national identification card.

The NCA noted that the second registration was not fully completed, as the planned biometric verification phase was never implemented.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, March 9, Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko explained, “This will be the third official registration process. The first one was done in 2011. The challenge with it is that there was no verification at all of the IDs. What we did was a manual verification of some limited cases along the way”.

“There was supposed to be verification of the ID card; we did one part of it, but the second part didn’t happen. The policymaker, NIA, couldn’t get alignment to do the second phase, which was the validation of the biometric,” he explained.

He added, “There are cases, including fake photos, where the same name is used by a different person. We saw fake IDs used to register”.

“What we want to do is to have a single source of truth. We want to ensure the ID details are correct and that the person who brought the ID is indeed the person,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, has said the planned SIM registration is not going to be a silver bullet that stops fraud.

The Telecoms Chamber CEO highlighted that consumer awareness and protection of personal identification numbers are critical in stopping the growing threat of mobile-related frauds.

She stressed that most of the mobile related fruad are driven by social engineering schemes where fraudsters impersonate trusted individuals or institutions to scam persons from disclosing sensitive information.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Business News,  Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah explained, “SIM registration is not going to be a silver bullet that stops fraud. The nature of fraud that we are currently experiencing as a country is mostly on a social engineering scheme.

When I say social engineering, these are legitimate individuals who would call you and pretend to be somebody else and, you know, seek information from you and fraudulently, you know, lead you into releasing your personal identity, your personal identity number.

“Your PIN is sacred. So to the extent that you protect your PIN, there shouldn’t be room for someone to defraud you,” she said.

She added, “What the SIM registration will do, however, is to ensure that for every subscriber, your number is biometrically linked to the national ID database, which means that if you are not the user, if I acquire a SIM card, which was acquired by someone else, and I use it, I purchase that SIM and I do not register it directly, any crime that is committed with that particular number will be linked back to me as a user.

“So I do think that there is the need for a lot of consumer education around protecting our SIM, around ensuring that the numbers that we register are authentically ours and that you do not go and purchase a SIM card that has been pre-registered, because it means that if any fraudulent activities undertaken with that number, you will be tracked and you will have to bear the consequences of it,” she added.

The Telecoms Chamber CEO highlighted that consumer awareness and protection of personal identification numbers are critical in stopping the growing threat of mobile-related frauds.

Her remarks follow, Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Innovations, and Digital Technologies, who has announced that the Cabinet has approved a completely new SIM registration exercise.

According to Sam George, the move follows an extensive review of the previous process.

Sam George disclosed that the earlier SIM registration exercise had a weak biometric enforcement, data inconsistencies and cases of registration fraud.

Speaking during high-level talks with the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the National Communications Authority (NCA), Sam stressed that NCA will serve as the central repository of SIM registration data.

Sam George is quoted to have said, “A Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) will be introduced to enable cross-network blocking of stolen or fraud-linked devices”.

Earlier, Sam George had announced that the government had begun processes for a nationwide SIM card registration exercise.

According to Sam George, the upcoming SIM registration will be well structured, convenient, with no long queues and disruptions.

He highlighted that the SIM card registration exercise will strengthen data integrity and national security within the telecommunications sector.

Speaking during a keynote address at the 2026 Data Protection Commission Conference, Sam George stated, “The failure in the last SIM card registration has left us with a difficult but necessary decision. After extensive cabinet deliberation, we are announcing the beginning of the process for a new SIM card registration exercise across the whole country”.

“This exercise will be the first in our history to have live verification against the NIA’s database and provide biometric verification for every registration. Let me state this up front”.

The upcoming SIM card registration exercise will prioritize customer’s comfort. We are putting in place measures, working with the Chamber of Telecoms, to avoid long queues, including self-service portals and a seamless process for completing the registration,” he said.

He further disclosed that the exercise will not be constrained by any deadlines adding  that all data collected will be fully protected.

Sam George added, “You won’t have the queues. You won’t have the deadlines that were unreachable in the past experience. We are going to make sure that the citizen is placed at the front of this registration.

“The regulator, the National Communications Authority, is engaging stakeholders on the rollout. The Data Protection Commission must be central to ensuring that even as biometric data is collected and processed, it is done with the principal consideration of protecting the customer. Trust must be elevated above all other considerations,” the minister remarked.

Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has urged the John Mahama-led government not to spend public funds on sending Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 World Cup.

The Ketu North MP stressed that the government must prioritise investment in sports infrastructure instead of using public funds to sponsor supporters.

According to Edem Agbana, he estimates that it will cost the government at least  $9,000 (GHS96,524.73) to sponsor a single supporter for just the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He disclosed that the money that would be spent on sponsoring such trips could instead be invested in sports infrastructure like Astro turfs and sports complexes for communities.

Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, March 9, Edem Agbana explained, “I do not think that the government should use public funds to send supporters to the World Cup. It will cost the government, on average, a minimum of $9,000 per supporter just for the group stages.

This includes flights, match tickets, accommodation, and a small allowance. On average, that’s about $9,000. Now, let’s assume the government intends to send 2,000 supporters; we are talking about $18 million”.

The Ketu North MP added, “With two thousand supporters spread across 276 constituencies, it means each constituency would get fewer than ten people. If you ask me to bring even ten people from Ketu North to the World Cup at a cost of close to $90,000, I would tell you to rather use that money to construct an Astro turf or a sports complex for my constituents in Ketu North”.

“We have many people who can travel on their own to watch the games. We also have a lot of Ghanaians living in the countries where the World Cup will be played”.

“I believe we should instead invest in infrastructure. For example, I am planning to construct an Astro turf for my people in Dzozde. Beyond the World Cup, the community will still benefit from that Astro turf,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has revealed plans to sponsor Police Officers and bloggers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the Sports Minister, they plan to send police officers to the World Cup to have the opportunity to learn large crowd management in the stadium.

The minister also reveal plan to send Emergency units, Creative Artistes and Bloggers to gain learn and gain exposure at the World Cup.

Kofi Adams explained that the idea was inspired by American streamer IShowSpeed’s visit to Africa.

Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, Kofi Adams disclosed, “It is not about chasing the ball for 90 minutes; we see it as an opportunity to learn. We would like to send a few people to study aspects of culture, such as fan mobilisation and support.

I have discussed with the IGP that we need to send personnel because we want to form a police unit for sports. So we want to send some police officers to the World Cup to observe crowd control in action and understand how it is done. We want to strengthen the security of the game, if my fundraising [sports fund] works well,” he said.

Kofi Adams further added, “A number of police officers will go, along with one or two members of the emergency response team. We also have creative artists, including bloggers, because it is an opportunity for them to build a base. We saw how IShowSpeed visited us, so if we send them to embark on a similar initiative, they can gain more followers”.

In related news,  Kofi Adams has announced that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed over $13 million for the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

According to Kofi Adams, the over $13 million for the Black Stars’ remains at the proposal stage, with discussions yet to be held with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for scrutiny before final approval.

He explained that the figures could either be reduced or maintained depending on the outcome of deliberations.

The Government of Ghana, through the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced a ban on land transit of several imported goods.

According to Ato Forson, the goods must now be routed exclusively through Ghana’s seaports, adding that they will no longer be permitted to enter or transit through Ghana via land borders.

Ato Forson further disclosed that the recentralisation of the Customs Technical Services Bureau (CTSB) will establish a one-stop shop for valuation and strengthen intelligence.

The finance minister stressed that the measures are moves intended to strengthen border controls, close revenue leakages, and safeguard government revenue.

In a post shared by Ato Forson on X, he wrote, “Earlier today, I met with the Acting Commissioner of Customs, Mr Aaron Akanor, and the management of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to discuss the recent developments at our borders and to take decisive steps to protect Ghana’s revenue.

Following this meeting, I have directed the Ghana Revenue Authority to immediately implement the following measures”.

Ato Forson further listed the affected goods in his post, “First, I have directed a ban on the land transit of selected products. The affected goods are:

 1. Cooking oil

 2. Rice

 3. Sugar

 4. Frozen products

 5. Textiles

 6. Flour

 7. Canned tomatoes

 8. Pasta / Spaghetti

 9. Pharmaceutical products”.

The finance minister further added, “These goods must now be routed exclusively through Ghana’s seaports and will no longer be permitted to enter or transit through Ghana via land borders.

I have also directed the recentralisation of the Customs Technical Services Bureau (CTSB). This will establish a one-stop shop for valuation and strengthen intelligence sharing, including insights generated through the Publican AI system.

These measures are intended to strengthen border controls, close revenue leakages, and safeguard government revenue.

Accordingly, I have directed all relevant departments and units within the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to ensure strict compliance with these directives”.

The development follows, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), acting through its Customs Division, intercepted the trucks and confirmed that they were carrying assorted consumer goods, including cooking oil, spaghetti, and tomato paste.

The information gathered suggests the trucks had reportedly been declared for transit to Niger; however, they were suspected to have been diverted for sale within the local market.

Also, the vehicles were allegedly moving without the mandatory customs human escort, which breaches the established transit procedures.

The shipments are projected to represent potential lost revenue of GH¢85.3 million, with an initial estimation set at GH¢2.62 million.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Finance stated, “Initial suspended duties and taxes were assessed at GH¢2,619,748.81. However, post-interception examinations uncovered material discrepancies in declared unit values, tariff classifications, and weights.”

“These irregularities significantly understated the tax liability, and the suspended revenue exposure has been revised to GH¢85,306,578.33,” the statement said.

Anita Desoso an National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has once again lashed out at the John Dramani Mahama government over the treatment of members of her party.

The former Vice Chairman and Women’s Organiser lashed out that NDC members are crying over the lack of appointment, adding that strangers and the NPP members are being appointed by the government.

According to Anita Desoso, government appointments are being given to non-NDC members, citing her appointment as a board member of the National Population Council.

Anita Desoso disclosed that she would have left that appointment if not for the love of the NDC, adding that other members on the board are strangers in the NDC.

The NDC stalwart further claimed that only 10% of appointees at the Jubilee House are members of the NDC.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “If we want to win the next election or if we want our party to continue to be strong, we must do things to make members of our party happy. But if we do nothing, assume that we (the party members) are angels, and we keep sending NPP members to where they are not supposed to be, and NDC members keep crying, I think it is not the best.

“Let me use myself as an example. I have been appointed to the board of the National Population Council… if not for God, I would have left already. I would have left already if not for God and the party”.

She added, “I don’t know any person there, and so when we go for meetings, I just sit down quietly and look at them. I don’t know where they were picked from. At least if I knew them, then we would know how to discuss issues to find solutions.”

“You can just imagine, I was late for one of the meetings, and I could not get there early. I was called later, and when I went, I was given GH¢500. What will Anita Desoso do with GH¢500? Look at the number of people I support, and I’m being given GH¢500. As soon as the money was given to me, I gave it to my driver”.

“People are lamenting, why have they taken A while B is there, who can help us? In the elections, we did not just get up to win the election; people suffered. If you like, go to the Flagstaff House (Jubilee House) and see something. When I go there, those I know are not even 10 per cent. People are already saying they are tired, they are not going to vote anymore”, Anita Desoso added.

Earlier, Anita Desoso blew an alarm, alleging that some persons within the party are selling appointments.

According to her, certain elements are selling positions in the government even to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who insulted the NDC.

She alleged that the positions are not being sold by the NDC executives, adding that persons who are unknown to the party are receiving appointments while NDC grassroos members have been abandoned.

Anita Desoso urged the leadership of the party to take the grassroots of the party seriously.

Speaking on Atinka TV, Anita Desoso stated, “A lot of our people are lamenting about employment and other issues. The second point is that many NPP people who insulted us have been given appointments.

But this is not the fault of the party leaders… people are selling positions. It is surprising that people we didn’t know and others who were with the NPP during the election have gotten appointments.

“So, a lot of people are angry. My ears are even hurting as people come to my house complaining, and I ask them to be patient. I explain to them that you need your opponents for certain things sometimes, and I also tell them that the NDC and NPP are not enemies, and it is possible that indirectly they contributed to the party’s victory,” she said in the Twi dialect.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has told disgruntled party members that President John Mahama cannot appoint everyone.

According to Asiedu Nketia, appointments under the current Mahama administration are limited; however urged party supporters who are yet to receive appointments to remain calm and exercise patience.

In related news, Global oil prices had earlier hit $110 (£82.74) a barrel, with the stock markets slumping following the escalating US-Israeli war with Iran.

Reports suggest the increasing US-Israeli war with Iran has fueled fears of long-term disruption to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

The BBC in a news story stated, “The US and Israel launched fresh waves of airstrikes across Iran over the weekend, hitting multiple targets, including oil depots.

Major disruption to energy supplies from the region threatens to push up prices for consumers and businesses worldwide.

On Monday morning in Asia, Brent crude was almost 24% higher at $114.74, while Nymex light sweet was up by more than 26% at $114.78.

Stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region fell sharply in morning trade, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index down by more than 7%, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong losing over 3%, and the ASX 200 in Australia more than 4% lower.

South Korea’s Kospi index, which has been hit especially hard since the conflict began, slipped by more than 8%, triggering a 20-minute halt to trading.

The so-called circuit breaker is a mechanism designed to curb panic selling. It also came into effect on Wednesday, when the Kospi slumped by 12%.

Parts of the BBC story added, “US President Donald Trump responded to the jump in prices by saying that short-term rises were a “small price to pay” for removing Iran’s nuclear threat.

His energy secretary told US broadcasters on Sunday that Israel, not the US, was targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, amid some concern about rising domestic pump prices caused by the war”.

Meanwhile, Dr Yussif Sulemana, the Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has announced that Ghana’s immediate threat amid the escalating Middle East crisis is crude oil prices.

According to Dr Yussif Sulemana, Ghana is not facing an immediate fuel supply shortage despite rising tensions in the Middle East, as the country has sufficient fuel stocks to meet demand in the short term.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, March 9, 2026, Dr Sulemana stated, “We are not immediately threatened by the supply or the availability of the product. What we are immediately threatened with is the price. Are we able to maintain the price? That is a big question that we are looking at”.

“We have only to ensure that we maintain the availability of supply. After we made the announcement, we have been working closely with the NPA, and they have given us the assurance that we can go beyond the five weeks,” he stated.

He further announced that additional fuel shipments are already in the country’s ports.

“We have some ships that have been docked at the harbour, ready to discharge. So, if these ships are discharged, we can go up to 10 weeks,” he added.

Kwahu trailer accident tragically claims five lives 

Five person have tragically lost their lives, with one other person in a critical condition, following a trailer accident on the Kwahu Highway.

Reports suggest the tragic incident occurred on Monday, March 9, 2026.

According to reports by Agoo FM News, the incident occurred when the trailer, fully loaded with cement, was heading toward Kotoso in the Kwahu East District when it reportedly suffered brake failure, resulting in the trailer overturning.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kwahu South Municipal Fire Service, Madam Sylvia Apoya, revealed that the crash happened around 6:14 a.m.

Madam Sylvia Apoya stated, “The trailer overturned, resulting in the instant death of five persons on board. The driver sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment”.

Reports suggest that the critically injured driver was only able to give limited information to medical personnel.

Madam Apoya further disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that more details will be provided.

In related news, the  Medical Superintendent of St. Edward Catholic Hospital, Dr Christopher Anane, has provided an update on the six people who survived on Tuesday, 3rd March, 2026, following a fatal road accident at Potrikrom in the Ashanti Region.

According to Dr Christopher Anane, three of the survivors have been discharged, and three others have been referred for specialised treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and St. John of God Hospital at Aduankwanta.

Speaking to Adom News, Medical Superintendent of St. Edward Catholic Hospital, Dr Christopher Anane stated, “Three have been treated and discharged, while the remaining three have been referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and St. John of God Hospital at Aduankwanta for further medical care”.

“The driver of the ambulance survived but sustained a severe fracture. He has been transferred to Aduankwanta for specialised orthopaedic treatment. He is part of the six survivors,” he stated.

It will be recalled that some days ago, news broke of at least 16 people tragically lost their lives following a head-on collision between a Ford Transit bus and an Ambulance.

Reports suggest the devastating road accident at Potrikrom in the Ahafo-Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.

The ambulance involved in the collision is registration number GV 527–23, and the Ford Transit bus with registration number GT 6576–19.

According to eyewitness reports, the two vehicles were on high speed when they approached each other from opposite directions.

The ambulance is said to belong to St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital in Drobo.

Reports suggest the Ambulance was attempting to overtake another vehicle but could not complete the manoeuvre, which led to the collision.

Several passengers aboard the Ford Transit are feared to have died instantly from the collision.

The victims have since been conveyed to mortuaries at Mankranso and Adugyama by officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a post on Facebook, stated, “I’ve received a briefing about the tragic accident that has claimed the lives of 16 innocent souls at Potrikrom in the Ahafo Ano South East district. My deepest condolences go to their families. May their souls rest in peace.”

Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police, has formally welcomed the IGP’s Special Operations Team (Black Maria unit) to the police headquarters, hailing the team for their outstanding work in Tamale.

IGP Yohuno further addressed concerns raised by some opinion leaders and youth in Tamale, who had urged that the unit remain longer in the area.

According to the IGP, the special unit was brought in to handle a specific task, and the local police would resume their duties once the special force had completed its assignment.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno stated, “When you are leaving, people don’t want you to leave. It started like Dr Gariba said, we were in the Western Region, where there was a need to contain the situation at Akinta Mines over there. After discharging your duties, you went to Ashanti South – Diaso and all the rest – and over there, it was fabulous”.

“When I was withdrawing you, it was a problem. Why did I withdraw you, people from there? But you are not for one place. When you say a special team, it doesn’t become a permanent team. You go somewhere, you perform your duties, leave the rest for the local police to do, and then you move on to another place,” he explained.

The IGP remarks follow some youth in Tamale who staged a protest against the immediate recall of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) special operations team from the Northern Region.

Reports detailed that the “Black Maria” was deployed to the region by the IGP in 2025, to curb the surging incidents of drug abuse, robbery and other criminal activities.

Following news of their withdrawal, hundreds of the youth on Thursday night stormed the Global Dream Hotel where the personnel had been lodging to appeal to them to withdraw their decision.

Abdul Rauf Mahama, a resident speaking to the media, highlighted that the team helped to sanitise many areas, “I am very worried about the redeployment of the team from the metropolis, because we are likely witnessing a surge in criminal activities and all the gains made for the past months will be in vain”, he said.

Another resident stated, “We want them to stay and continue with their work to ensure that the region is free from crime, especially drug dealing, substance abuse, among others”.

In related Police news, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has ordered an investigation into a viral video alleging that some police officers in Kibi withdrew GHC400,000 from a mobile money agent’s account without authorisation.

The IGP directivews follows, a viral video on social media alleging fingering some Police officers in the incident.

According to the Police the outcome of the investigation will be duly communicated to the Ghanaian public.

A former Chief of Air Staff, retired Air Commodore K. K. Pumpuni, has deflated the long-standing assertions that the late Jerry John Rawlings once flew an aircraft under the Adomi Bridge.

According to the former Chief of Air Staff, he was in charge of operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened, adding that if Rawlings had indeed flown under the Adomi Bridge, he would have court-marshalled him.

Speaking in an interview with  Kafui Dey shared on X on Monday, March 9, 2026, the retired Air Commodore stated, “There was a claim that Rawlings flew under the Adomi Bridge, and I said no, he didn’t. I was in charge of the operations of the Air Force, and nothing like that happened. If it had happened, we would have court-martialled him. Nothing like that ever happened”.

“There are certain issues surrounding it, and an aircraft cannot just fly under the bridge over the water like that. I made that comment, and he heard it, and he wasn’t too happy about it. He felt I should have kept quiet, but I said no. I was asked a question, so I couldn’t have kept quiet”.

“If I had kept quiet, it would have meant I was endorsing the claim. But it wasn’t true, and you also know it’s not true. Jerry had a small problem with me after that incident, so I’ve not been able to publish my book,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Air Commodore K.K. Pumpuni(rtd) revelation stated, “Why are we trying to destroy all our stories? It started from who brought cocoa to Ghana, and now this, but we don’t question the stories of the whiteman. WHY?”.

“Why did he not say this when man was alive. Only a bloody liar waits for someone to die before he/she says something about the dead”, a netizen added.

In related news, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam has revealed that the late former President Jerry John Rawlings would not have joined the army if not Air Force Commander’s personal decision.

According to Retired Major General Jerry John Rawlings, at the time failed his examinations and should have been disqualified, but the Air Force Commander took a personal decision to keep him as he was a good pilot.

Retired Major General explained that the commanders saw Rawlings as a nice chap whom they could handle, but it was to their own peril.

Speaking with Kafui Dey in a video shared on Facebook, Retired Major General Kwamina Sam explained, “June 4th, if anybody had told me it was coming, I wouldn’t have believed it. I just finished my service in Kumasi as commander and moved to Accra as Chief of Staff. I was then a Brigadier General”. 

According to the former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, he never met Rawlings at Achimota School, but added that he was aware of him.

“In fact, he always looked crafy to me. It was the Air Force Commander’s personal decision, despite the fact that he wasn’t passing his exams, that he was a good pilot and should be kept. If the rules had been applied, Rawlings wouldn’t have been in the service. They all thought he was a nice chap; they could handle him, to their peril,” he added.

Major General (rtd) Sam also stressed that some top military officers were needlessly and unwarrantably killed when Rawlings took over the country.

He recounted that Amedume’s crime was that he had taken an Armed Forces loan to buy a house, revealing that if that was his crime, he was also guilty.

“When they finished, what was it? Amedume’s crime was that he had taken an Armed Forces loan to buy a house. And I took an Armed Forces loan to buy this house, so I would have been guilty too, if the charge for Amedume was that he had used an Armed Forces loan to buy a house. When I bought this house, it was 34,000 cedis in the 70s.

“…when they looked at Yaw Boakye’s account, he had 4,000 cedis. So why should Yaw Boakye be killed for 4,000 cedis?” he quizzed.

In that same interview, Retired Major General Edwin Kwamina Sam recounted his experience in the condemned cells of Nsawam prison after the June 4th Uprising.

History tells us that the 1979 uprising was a dramatic turning point in Ghana’s political and military history, with late Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings staging a coup to overthrow the then-President Dr Hilla Limann’s government.

The June 4th Uprising caused significant mayhem within the military, resulting in the detention of several officers, both high-ranking and junior, by the Rawlings regime.

Retired Major General Edwin Kwamina Sam was one of the officers detained during this period.

He recounted the harsh conditions he and other military personnel endured in the aftermath of the uprising.

According to him, he spent two days at the Nsawam prison where they were served Gari, kako and raw pepper.

The Ghana Police Service have arrested a young Ghanaian couple for allegedly beheading their three-day-old baby for a suspected money ritual.

The couples have been identified as a 24-year-old Abena Benewa and a 26-year-old Bright Ashiao.

Reports suggest that the couple was arrested at Awutu Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District.

According to reports, the shocking incident was exposed when residents discovered the mutilated body of the baby at a refuse dump and initiated a search for the perpetrators of the evil act.

The information gathered also alleged that the couple claimed their three-day-old baby was pronounced dead upon delivery by a traditional birth attendant in Bontrase.

In a post shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, he wrote, “A young couple, 24-year-old Abena Benewa and 26-year-old Bright Ashiao, have been arrested at Awutu Bontrase in the Awutu Senya West District for allegedly beheading their three-day-old baby for a suspected money ritual.

The disturbing act was brought to light after residents discovered the mutilated body of the baby at a refuse dump and launched a search for the perpetrators of the heinous act.

It is reported that the couple claimed the baby was pronounced dead upon delivery by a traditional birth attendant in Bontrase, but failed to adequately explain the severed body parts.

Following rigorous questioning, residents handed over the suspects to the Awutu Beraku District Police Command for further investigations and prosecution”.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “Justice and accountability are critical here, and the focus must also be on community awareness and prevention, so such atrocities are never repeated”.

“24 and 26 year olds. If you’re not financially capable, why engage in sexual activity to bring forth this innocent baby, just to kill him for rituals

Thunder fire them in prison !”, a netizen added.

A netizen added, “Once again, we must let the old law work in Ghana for sanity to prevail! Murderers, Rapists and Terrorists must not be given a day to live! All other crimes can be weighed in courts”.

“Such young people. What sort of money do you want? Money you’re not willing to work for. You want to be lazy and succeed on the blood of the innocent”, one more X user wrote.

An X user claimed, “There’s no blood money. Those mallams are human traffickers. They will convince you to kill and bring the human parts so they can sell them on the black market. After selling, you receive your share, thinking it’s the human sacrifice that produces the money. You can’t stop killing”.

“This is what we’re always talking about, if care is not taken, these things are going to normalise in the country..the Malam or whatever have to be also arrested too”, another X user added.

Universities in Ghana training students mainly to seek employment – Asiedu Nketiah laments

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has bemoaned that Ghana’s universities are merely training students mainly to seek employment.

The NDC National Chairman highlighted that Ghana needs a reorientation of its educational system to emphasise innovation and entrepreneurship.

According to Asiedu Nketiah, innovation and entrepreneurship are the ways Ghana can address its growing youth unemployment.

Speaking during the launch of the Volta Youth Development Fund in Ho on Saturday, March 7, cited that in many developed countries, universities focus on researching societal problems and developing solutions that contribute to economic growth.

Asiedu Nketiah stated, “In many developed countries, universities research societal problems and develop solutions that contribute to economic growth, but here most of our universities are training students mainly to seek employment”.

“It is simply not possible for any government to employ all graduates coming out of our universities. Somebody must begin to create jobs and employment opportunities so that others can also be employed,” he said.

“Economies grow when people identify problems affecting society and convert solutions into sources of income,” he said.

In related news, the member of parliament for Nhyiaso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has urged the John Mahama government to introduce entrepreneurship as a core subject in the Junior High School (SHS) and Senior High Schools.

Stephen Amoah argued that early entrepreneurial training can help address graduate unemployment by encouraging job creation.

According to Stephen Amoah, embedding entrepreneurship into the academic curriculum would help cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset at an early stage, equipping students not only to seek employment but to create sustainable jobs for themselves and others.

Hon. Dr Stephen Amoah further stressed that such a reform represents a practical and long-term strategy to address Ghana’s rising graduate unemployment challenge.

The MP argued that education must evolve to meet current economic realities.

The proposal has reignited conversations about curriculum reform and the role of education in national development.

Meanwhile, Mussa Dankwah, the Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director, has disclosed that Ghana’s economy is no longer the number one issue for voters.

According to Mussa Dankwah, Jobs have replace economy as voters’ top concern when he speaks to voters.

He noted that before the 2024 election, the three things that bothered voters were the economy, jobs, and education, adding that voters’ priorities have shifted.

Mussa Dankwah further stressed that he expects the NDC government to create jobs.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on January 6, Mussa Dankwah disclosed, “I expect them to create jobs; if you speak to voters today, the economy is no longer a threat to them. The economy is no longer the number one issue for them. It suggests that they are okay with the economy.”

“The issue is job creation. If you look at the last election, before the election, the three top issues that bothered voters were the economy, jobs, and education.”

He added, “On points one and three, which were the top three issues, they are having success in doing that. But the problem they have is job creation, which is the biggest threat. We’ve been told that it’s a national security threat for many years. It still remains. A chunk of the youth have no job.”

“Whatever the government needs to take to create jobs, the environment that will create jobs, they have to. There’s no excuse for them. The people will be disappointed, but in the second year, if nothing happens, I can tell them for a fact.”

Controversial marriage counsellor Lutterodt arrested

Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, popularly known as Counsellor Lutterodt, a controversial marriage counsellor, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

Reports suggest that Counsellor Lutterodt was arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly inciting violence.

According to reports, his arrest followed after he reportedly urged Ga youth to exhume Daddy Lumba’s body from his East Legon residence.

Counsellor Lutterodt is said to have claimed that burying the late musician at an unapproved location on Ga land is disrespectful and requires immediate action.

SIKAOFFICIAL in a post shared wrote, “Popular Ghanaian marriage counsellor Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, widely known as Counsellor Lutterodt, has been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly inciting violence and engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

He reportedly urged Ga youth to exhume Daddy Lumba’s body from his East Legon residence, claiming that burying the late musician at an unapproved location on Ga land is disrespectful and requires immediate action”.

Also, in a post shared by EDHUD, they wrote, “Controversial marriage counsellor Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, popularly known as Counsellor Lutterodt, has been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly inciting violence.

His arrest follows claims he reportedly made alleging that the body of highlife legend Daddy Lumba had been secretly buried at the musician’s residence in East Legon. Lutterodt allegedly urged Ga youth to storm the house with pickaxes to exhume the body without waiting for police intervention”.

Some X user reacting to the development stated, “He’s a Ga man who believes it is traditionally wrong for a foreigner to be buried on their land at a private residence rather than a designated cemetery, so he made a plea to the Ga youth to use the proper traditional channels to have the body exhumed.

Is making such a plea now considered a crime? I genuinely don’t understand this. Are the police now arresting people simply for speaking out or making statements? Can someone help me understand which part of the law criminalises this?”

“If true, then it’s an unfortunate statement from him. He’s always been controversial, but calling the Ga youth to invade and attack a private property is pretty serious.

Even if his claims were true, it’s still private property and he has the right to use it for whatever purpose deemed fit, provided the right permission is sought from the right state authorities.

Can’t tell what his motivations were, but such a call was far below the belt”, one X user added.

In related news, Victor Kofi Owusu, commonly known as Abusuapanyin Tupac, the family head of late Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has asserted that the late musician was buried at his residence in East Legon.

According to Abusuapanyin Tupac, people are claiming ignorance about the burial site when they choose not to attend the singer’s funeral.

Abusuapanyin Tupac further confirmed earlier claims by Afia Schwarzenegger, who stated Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon, Accra.

He detailed that Daddy Lumba was buried at his residence in East Legon in accordance with his dying wish.

Speaking in an interview with Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Abusuapanyin Tupac questioned, “If you chose not to attend the funeral because you were upset about the court’s verdict, how can you now claim you don’t know where Daddy Lumba was buried? You can’t skip the funeral and expect to know the burial site.

They are lucky that Afia Schwarzenegger made the location of Lumba’s burial known publicly, so saying you don’t know where he was buried is a lie,” he said.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, has alleged that the John Mahama government has worked on metres for them to run fast.

According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the government is responsible for deliberately increasing electricity tariffs, which has led to a massive hike in prices across the country.

He stressed that the meter running very fast has nothing to do with the fault.

Speaking during The People Forum, Miracles Aboagye alleged, “They have intentionally increased it. If you realise that your meter is running very fast, don’t think it has a fault. It is the government that has worked on it to run fast”.

Some Ghanians reacting to his claims stated, “As for this man, I’m always tempted to think that he just says these things as political talk. It will be very problematic if he actually believes some of these strange things he puts out in the public”.

“These people should be arraigned in court for them to prove these allegations. Why does ECG keep silent on these issues? Is it true? If not, why don’t you prosecute people deliberately misinforming the populace and hurting your credibility?”, an X user added.

“What he said about the current energy tariff prices for residential household bi true, taxes and levies sef no come.

“The mediocrity associated with Dennis Miracle Aboagye appears to be closely intertwined with the situation. It seems there was a deliberate introduction of that meter, and now there is an attempt to attribute blame to the current administration”, one more Ghanaian added.

However, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said its meters deployed are rigorous and accurate.

According to the ECG,  they remain confident in the accuracy and reliability of their meters, but acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns, adding that they have taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders in terms of metering and billing systems.

ECG further announced that it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test meters following public complaints.

The ECG disclosed that all electricity meters deployed by them undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy; however disclosed that customers may have genuine concerns.

The statement added that in the spirit of transparency and accountability, they have requested the GSA to randomly test meters, and their findings will be compiled in a report to the Minister.

In a statement, ECG’s Director of Communications, William Boateng, read, “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has taken note of recent concerns raised by some prepaid customers and other stakeholders regarding our metering and billing systems.

We wish to assure the general public that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy. Our quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards. ECG’s meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide. In addition, all ECG meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for compliance with approved standards before deployment”

The statement added, “While ECG remains confident in the accuracy and reliability of its meters, we acknowledge that customers may have genuine concerns. In line with the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition’s directive, ECG is fully committed to investigating all complaints. These investigations have already commenced.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability. ECG has once again formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to independently and randomly select and test our meters in the laboratory and in the field. GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s report to the Honourable Minister.

ECG remains committed to responsive, transparent, and accountable service delivery, and we appreciate our valued customers and stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation”.
