Nana Obiri Boahen, the former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said he will not be happy if the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong, leaves the party.

He argued that Ken Agyapong should not allow personal issues with individuals in the party to influence his actions against the NPP.

Obiri Boahen, however, emphasised that while he does not support dismissing Ken through the party’s disciplinary committee, he added that the former Assin Central MP should step aside if he no longer wishes to continue with the party.

Nana Obiri Boahen urged Ken Agyapong to leave the NPP and stop the threats.

According to Obiri Boahen, if Ken Agyapong feels tired of the party, he should simply leave rather than resort to threats and intimidation against its members.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on July 1, 2026, “We are saying that Ken, as an adult, says, if the water rises above the frog, it makes noise. Now we are tired, Ken today this, tomorrow that, we are tired of you”.

“Just leave the party and go, that’s all…If the disciplinary committee asks for my opinion, I won’t recommend sacking him. Instead, they should talk things out. But if he feels he is tired, then he should just leave and stop the threats”.

“We don’t live in a group and behave this way. If you want to go, you can go; if you want to stay, you can stay,” he said.

In related news, Professor Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh, a former Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), has said the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Ken Agyapong’s recent threats against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are empty and childish.

The former Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) criticised former Ken Agyapong, questioning him whether he is acting out of greed or for the love of the country.

He argued that Ken Agyapong’s utterances must be checked, otherwise they could cause harm to the party.

According to him, he believes Kennedy’s threats are driven by greed rather than patriotism.

Speaking in an interview on Owia TV on June 25, 2026, Prof Ayeboafoh stated, “He contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the election because he went around saying that Charlotte Osei used her attraction to secure the Electoral Commission position.

“My problem is this; if he says he loves the party and there are certain things that need to be disclosed, why is he not saying them now and instead waiting until 2027 to reveal them? Is he doing this out of greed or out of love for the country?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, Kwasi Kwarteng, a spokesperson for former Assin Central Member of Parliament Ken Agyapong, has revealed that his boss is still a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Kwasi Kwarteng, reports attributed to Ken Agyapong’s brother, Lawyer Ralph Agyapong, of him leaving the party are not necessarily accurate.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News, Kwasi Kwarteng stated, “Ken Agyapong is not perturbed; he is still a member of the NPP. I have seen reports which has been attributed to his brother, Lawyer Ralph Agyapong, that Ken Agyapong has left the party; thankfully, we have the Deputy General Secretary in the studio. I am sure he has not received any letter relating to that. The reports attributed to Ralph Ohene Agyapong may not necessarily be accurate.

Yesterday I attended a funeral with Ken Agyapong at Krobo Odumase; we literally spent the whole day together. As far as he is concerned, he has not left the NPP; he is still a member of the party; nothing has changed”.

Kwasi Kwarteng further touched on reports of summons against Ken Agyapong, saying, “We also cannot pretend; we have heard reports of summons in the media regarding some petitions against him; that is very normal and natural in every democratic dispensation.

As of now, he has not had any invitation; I am sure that any invitation extended to him, all consequential decisions will be made to that effect”.
