“President Mahama’s outfit is not a BLOUSE” – Wodemaya ‘schools’ Zambians

0

Wodemaya, a popular Ghanaian content creator and YouTuber, has schooled some Zambians for describing President John Dramani Mahama’s outfit as a blouse.

The Ghanaian content creator and YouTuber expressed strong displeasure over comments made by some Zambians.

During Mahama’s visit to Zambia, he was spotted wearing a fugu, a traditional Ghanaian smock which some Zambians were describing as a blouse.

Wodemaya in a post on X stated, “Dear Zambians,

The outfit worn by our President is not a BLOUSE. It is a Ghanaian traditional attire known as FUGU, also called Batakari.

Our President is intentionally promoting the local garment industry both within and beyond our borders, unlike your President, whose suit is not African. It is unfortunate that many of you, despite having access to smartphones and the internet, still choose to remain ignorant”.

Meanwhile, President Mahama is currently on a three-day state visit to Zambia, where he is engaging in high-level diplomatic meetings and strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Zambia.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has told the Ghanaian community living in Zambia that his government inherited a country that was sick and with governance in tatters.

Mahama detailed that he was confronted with a deeply troubled nation, characterised by a fragile economy and a governance system on the brink of collapse.

Speaking during his official three-day state visit to Zambia, President Mahama made these remarks when he met Ghanaians living in Zambia.

President Mahama, in addressing the gathering, explained that Ghana was grappling with severe economic difficulties, alongside widespread problems across key sectors such as health, education, and agriculture.

He added that the situation was further compounded by the country’s debt distress.

President Mahama stated, “We inherited a country that was sick. The economy was in crisis, and governance was in tatters. We had so many issues in health, education, and agriculture, and most of all, we had defaulted on our debt. Our debt-to-GDP ratio had risen above 100%, and nobody wanted to lend to Ghana again.

“So we fought the election, and we said our objective was to win power and reset Ghana in all sectors, and I likened it to resetting a computer to work properly again.”

Also, the Government of Ghana has announced a landmark visa waiver agreement between Ghana and Zambia.

The visa waiver agreement allows citizens of both countries to travel between the two nations without the requirement of visas.

Speaking to members of the press on the sidelines of the visit,  Ablakwa stated, “We have also ensured that as a ministry, we are prioritising your smooth mobility and one of the major outcomes of this state visit, which you will hear President [John Dramani] Mahama talk about, is that for the first time in the history of Ghana-Zambia relations, we are going to have a free visa between our two countries so you no longer have to stress about visas.

“So we are going to have a visa waiver agreement. And it is one of the conditions that President Mahama gave us for this visit. He said, Foreign Minister, if you don’t make this happen, don’t join me on this visit.”

“We inherited a country that was sick” – Mahama tells Ghanaians in Zambia

President John Dramani Mahama has once again bemoaned that his government inherited a country that was sick and with governance in tatters.

Mahama detailed that he was confronted with a deeply troubled nation, characterised by a fragile economy and a governance system on the brink of collapse.

Speaking during his official three-day state visit to Zambia, President Mahama made these remarks when he met Ghanaians living in Zambia.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana has said his government have been shocked and surprised at the quick turnaround of Ghana’s economy.

According to President Mahama, in his imagination, he thought Ghana’s economy would need about two years for Ghanaians to begin to see a turnaround.

Mahama noted that Ghana has become a poster child for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

He highlighted that anytime he meets the IMF officials and the World Bank Officials they do not believe what has happened in Ghana.

President Mahama noted that Ghana’s progress in the last year has received international recognition and admiration from other African countries, which are now studying Ghana’s policy choices.

He further detailed his government bringing inflation down from 23.8 per cent to 5.4 per cent within a year, and seeing the cedi appreciate by 37 per cent in the same period.

Watch ‘stroke-stricken’ Asante Bediatuo struggle to walk at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2026

0

Nana Asante Bediatuo, the former executive secretary to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been sighted at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2026.

In a viral video widely circulated on social media, Nana Asante Bediatuo was spotted coming out of his car after arrival at the event.

Nana Asante Bediatuo was seen with a walking stick, visibly struggling to walk.

Reports suggest that Nana Bediatuo Asante was sighted at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2026, where Africa’s political and business leaders are gathered for discussions surrounding the continent’s economic future.

It will be recalled that there was a rumour last year that Nana Asante Bediatuo had a 10-hour brain operation in the United States.

Bediatuo was a member of a delegation that accompanied the now former President Akufo-Addo to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he was reportedly feeling unwell.

The last we heard from the presidency regarding Nana Asante Bediatuo’s health issues was a few months ago, when the Office of the President issued a press statement.

According to the statement, Nana Bediatuo was ill and receiving treatment in the United States.

Last year, broadcast journalist Kwaku Annan had said that Asante Bediatuo’s condition was getting worse every day and that she had been transferred to a new location, where she would not be returning to assist President Akufo-Addo in a seamless transition.

But according to the most recent reports coming out of the United States, where he is undergoing treatment, he is recuperating more quickly.

“He is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment,” read the statement verifying his recovery. The medical staff reports that Nana Bediatuo Asante is making good progress, and we’re still holding out hope that he’ll soon be fully recovered. During this trying time, we kindly ask for your continuous prayers and support for him and his family. When needed, more updates will be sent.

According to the report, Nana Asante Bediatuo is receiving post-recovery therapy and is working with therapists to learn how to walk and grasp.

Some Ghanaians, even, called for Nana Asante Bediatuo to be returned to Ghana so that he might receive medical care.

However, Nana Asante Bediatuo later returned to Ghana, according to reports in the early hours of Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Reports suggest he was discreetly flown into the country on a chartered flight from the United States, arriving at a time when the airport was less busy.

Nana Asante Bediatuo, some months later, then made his first public appearance at Akufo-Addo’s 81st birthday party.

Also, Nana Asante Bediatuo, some months ago, made yet another sporadic public appearance as he recovers from a stroke.

In a viral video widely circulated on Facebook on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Asante Bediatuo was joined by businessman Osei Kwame ‘Despite’, former Blackstar defender Samuel Osei Kuffour, and other members of the East Legon Executive Club.

Asante Bediatuo dazzled the guests at the celebration when he took the microphone to perform a song for the crowd.

He was dressed in an all-black suit. Bediatuo performed Nana Tuffour’s hit track Nyankonton.

The 90s hit talks about life’s struggles in relation to poverty, ill health, and childlessness.

Kwame Despite and his friends looked enchanted by Bediatuo’s performance.

Sammy Kuffour, in the video, was spotted helping Bediatuo to stand on his feet by holding him, and also had a microphone to back him up.

“Inflation is down, but cocoa farmers cannot be paid. What kind of economy is this?” – Dr Zaato quizzes

0

Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, Senior Lecturer and Political/Policy Analyst at the University of Ghana, has fired shots at the John Mahama-led government over their failure to pay cocoa farmers.

Dr Zaato asserted that Inflation is down, but cocoa farmers cannot be paid, questioning what kind of economy the NDC is running.

He further claimed that the NDC government came into power with one agenda in agriculture – to make farmers poor.

According to Dr Zaato, the NDC described the NPP economy as criminally run, but they were paying cocoa farmers.

Speaking on TV3 Newsday, Dr Joshua Jebuntie Zaato stated, “The problem happening in COCBOD is as a result of policy reversals, internal conflict and weak decision making. It seems all the policies of this government have one objective when it comes to the Agriculture sector: to make farmers poor and poorer.

If you talk to any member of the NDC, they say the dollar is down, fuel prices are down, Inflation is down, and farmers cannot be paid. What kind of economy is that? Inflation is down cocoa farmers cannot be paid. What kind of economy is that? Farmers are crying, and you say the economy is better, which economy are you talking about?”

He added, “Why is it that the economy is doing well, but farmers are not being paid, farmers are threatening to turn their farms into galamsey sites, rubber plantation and to illegally send cocoa out. You said the previous economy was criminally manage but that economy paid cocoa farmers”.

Meanwhile, Francis Teinor, the president of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers Association, has threatened a demonstration over unpaid COCOBOD arrears.

According to him, Cocoa farmers across the country will hit the streets to demonstrate starting from next week if the COCOBOD CEO Dr Randy Abbey fails to pay them.

Francis Teinor cried out that Cocoa farmers have been plunged into severe financial hardship, which is now affecting their basic needs and homes.

Speaking to Citi News, President of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers Association, Francis Teinor, stated, “It is really affecting farmers; some are sick and want to seek medication, but they don’t have money to go to the hospital. Do you want them to die? School has reopened, and parents want to pay fees.

“We cannot also keep the cocoa because farmers don’t have the storage facilities.

“As I speak, it’s been about six weeks, no money for cocoa farmers. This is seriously affecting the sector. If the COCOBOD CEO does not do anything about it, he should expect something ugly from next week. Farmers are not happy; if he is not careful, we will be on the streets next week,” he said.

Also, the President of the Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers (GNACOF), Stevenson Anane Boateng, has revealed that cocoa farmers have not been paid for their produce purchased by the government since November 2025.

Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Stevenson Anane Boateng explained, “The government is buying our cocoa but has refused to pay us. Since November, we have not been paid. They accept the cocoa, but they don’t pay us”.

When asked what might have caused the delay, he responded: “We don’t know. We are not part of the government, so please, you need to ask them why they have refused to pay cocoa farmers. This is troubling, and we want the government to address our concerns.”

In the meantime, reports suggest some Cocoa farmers are also contemplating smuggling the beans to neighbouring countries and selling off their lands to illegal miners.

This comes at a time. Ghana Cocoa Board races against time to rethink its financing scheme in cocoa purchases.

Bawumia loves Ghana, and has the appetite to work hard – Akufo-Addo

0

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the former president of Ghana, has backed the newly elected New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Akufo-Addo described Bawumia as someone who is a loyal party man with a deep love for Ghana and the appetite to lead the party back to power.

The former president made these remarks following Dr Bawumia, accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, who paid a courtesy call on him.

Akufo-Addo reflected on their long political partnership. Nana Akufo-Addo recalling choosing Dr Bawumia as his running mate 18 years ago.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, former President Akufo-Addo wrote, “Newly-minted flagbearer of our great party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his spouse, @SBawumiaonX, paid a courtesy call on me yesterday, 3rd February, 2026.

Eighteen years ago, I chose Dr. @MBawumia as my running mate. We stood side by side through four elections. I know his mind, his character, his love for Ghana, and his appetite for hard work. He is loyal to the party and country. With the full support of our rank and file and the continued generosity of our supporters, I know that he will lead us back to victory”.

In related news, Dr Arthur Kennedy, a veteran politician and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has begged Ghanaians to give the former vice president and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a chance to become president of Ghana.

According to Arthur Kennedy, a vice President and a Presidential candidate are normally different people.

He cited instances where Vice Presidents who got opportunities to be Presidents turned out to be effective, naming Anwar Sadat and Richard Nixon.

Speaking on Joy News on February 2, 2026, Dr Arthur Kennedy explained, “We should all give Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a chance because a vice President and a Presidential candidate are normally different people”.

“Anwar Sadat was said to be cowardly as Nasser’s vice, but he turned out to be a very effective President in his own right”, he said.

“Richard Nixon was not a very impressive Vice President to Dwight Eisenhower, but he did an excellent job as President, until Watergate”.

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has said he would be open-hearted and open-armed to everybody, even those who insulted him during the NPP primaries.

Dr Bawumia pledged a reconciliatory and inclusive approach following his victory.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP winning the 2028 general elections lies in resolving internal party challenges.

Speaking to supporters and party executives at his residence in Tse Addo, Accra, on Monday, January 2, Dr. Bawumia stated, “The NDC vote they didn’t get much more than they did in 2020, it is basically the same, the NPP votes basically collapsed 2.1 million less because our own people decided not to come out to vote so it an internal problem”.

So, fundamentally, if we solve that internal problem, you are on your way to victory, because if 2.1 million people had voted, we would have won. That’s it, I am going to be very open-minded, open-hearted and open-armed, I will bring everybody, even those who were insulting me, I am going to bring them all together”.

Renaming Kotoka Airport not politically motivated – Transport Minister

0

Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, has defended the government’s decision to rename the Kotoka International Airport.

The Transport Minister highlighted that the Mahama government’s decision is not politically motivated, arguing that renaming the airport is of significant importance to the Ghanaian people.

He explained that the government decision to just restore the airport’s original name, Accra International Airport, given by Ghana’s first presiednt Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking during a working visit to the State Transport Company (STC) terminal in Accra, Joseph Bukari Nikpe stated, “Parliament will be expected to pass a lot of bills, and as part of the government’s agenda, we have a lot of bills from the Ministry of Transport, and one of them is the renaming of the Kotoka International Airport to its original name.

Renaming the airport to Accra International Airport is of significant importance to the Ghanaian people and, for that matter, the African personality. We are not doing this with any political thinking. We are doing this to come from a very neutral point of view.”

The Transport minister further cited historical context, saying, “We will remember that around 1946, the British Royal Air Force used that place as an air force base to carry people to war and other activities”.

He explained, “That was the time Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah was at the helm of affairs. He retooled, revamped, and redeveloped the air force base into a civilian passenger airport, and at that time, the name was Accra International Airport”.

The Minister added, “We have all accepted that Accra is our capital city. It is rich in culture and also has a locational identity. Everybody, especially in the West Africa sub-region, knows that the struggle for independence had a lot to do with Accra.”

“Renaming the airport to Accra International Airport is of significant importance to the Ghanaian people and, for that matter, the African personality,” he stated.

“For the fact that the name was changed to honour somebody in his role in the 1966 coup, we feel that that history is not what Ghanaians would want to hear,” he said.

“The airport had an original name given by the first President. We should go back to that. Kwame Nkrumah himself, wherever his spirit may be, will remember that when he comes home, it will be to his original Accra International Airport,” he said.

Meanwhile, renowned legal scholar and governance advocate, Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, has said renaming Kotoka International Airport is costly and unwarranted.

He argued that the Airport’s name is firmly embedded in global aviation systems, international treaties, maps, branding, and digital platforms, which would make any attempt to change it a costly and complex exercise.

Kwaku Azar stated, “Renaming KIA now would incur significant administrative, financial, and symbolic costs without improving operational efficiency, safety, or economic growth”.

“Kotoka International Airport is already recognised globally. Stability and predictability are assets in aviation. Changing its name now risks confusion and unnecessary costs, with no measurable benefit to the country,” Prof Asare stated.

He added, “While the intent may be symbolic, the practical consequences are real. Policymakers must weigh the economic and operational costs before pursuing such initiatives”.

“What has being an Ewe got to do with Kotoka’s name on an Airport” – Vormawor slams Afenyo-Markin

0

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a social activist and private legal practitioner, has slammed the Minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, after he dragged ethnicity in to brouhaha surrounding the renaming of the Kotoka Airport.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, he is disappointed in Afenyo-Markin for bringing needless ethnicity into the renaming of the Kotoka Airport.

He stressed why Ghanaians can have an intelligent conversation about without suggesting Ewe’s are being victimised.

In a post on X, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “What has being an Ewe got to do with Kotoka’s name on an Airport. We need to be careful the things we bring needless ethnicity into oo.

I’m very disappointed in Afenyo-Markin. This is a red herring.

We can have an intelligent conversation about without suggesting Ewe’s are being victimised. Mtcheew”.

His comments come on the back of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who has opposed the government’s plan to rename the Kotoka International Airport to the Accra International Airport.

Afenyo-Markin described the move to rename Kotoka International Airport as an indictment of the NDC.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Mr Afenyo-Markin defended the current name of the airport and criticised the decision to rename it, adding that the name Kotoka International Airport already has Accra in it.

Afenyo-Markin explained, “All these years, we’ve had General Kotoka’s name on the airport, and suddenly it’s being changed. The name Kotoka International Airport, Accra, is already there, so you don’t need to remove Kotoka’s name”.

The Minority leader asserted that successive governments had retained the name and fired NDC leaders and MP’s from the Volta Region for remaining silent on the issue.

He added, “How many prominent Voltarians have their names on national assets or monuments? This is the only thing the people of Volta can also see as something that recognises heroism from the Volta Region, and they’re being denied”.

“Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor — they’re from Volta, they’re in government and are watching Volta lose its pride. It’s up to them,” he said.

“Renaming Kotoka would incur significant administrative, financial, and symbolic costs” – Kwaku Azar

0

Renowned legal scholar and governance advocate, Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, has said renaming Kotoka International Airport is costly and unwarranted.

He argued that the Airport’s name is firmly embedded in global aviation systems, international treaties, maps, branding, and digital platforms, which would make any attempt to change it a costly and complex exercise.

According to Kwaku Azar, the names that have endured for more than six decades have survived not one political moment, but military rule, constitutional change, democratic transition, and generational turnover.

He added that each generation has the right to question history, but no generation has the right to treat every inherited symbol as if it were freshly imposed.

In a write-up shared on Facebook, Kwaku Azar stated, “Renaming KIA now would incur significant administrative, financial, and symbolic costs without improving operational efficiency, safety, or economic growth”.

“Kotoka International Airport is already recognised globally. Stability and predictability are assets in aviation. Changing its name now risks confusion and unnecessary costs, with no measurable benefit to the country,” Prof Asare stated.

Kwaku Azar further added that “names are not endorsements. They are anchors of memory. KIA does not ask travellers to celebrate coups. It reminds us, silently and persistently, of a turbulent chapter in our national journey: post-independence authoritarianism, military intervention, Cold War pressures, internal dissent, and the long, painful road to constitutional democracy. Erasing the name does not heal that history. It merely hides it. A mature nation does not erase uncomfortable chapters; it teaches them”.

He further stressed that the renaming of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to Accra International Airport risks erasing important lessons from Ghana’s history, explaining that the 1969 renaming of KIA was not meant to glorify the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah.

“The appeal of the simplistic claim that the airport’s name exists to celebrate the 1966 coup rests on an incomplete reading of history. The renaming of KIA was not intended to glorify the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah”.

“The airport was renamed to mark the site of Kotoka’s death, not to glorify military intervention in politics. It records a moment of national turmoil rather than endorsing it—an act of remembrance, not celebration,” Prof Asare said.

Meanwhile, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, has defended the government’s decision to rename the Kotoka International Airport.

The Transport Minister highlighted that the Mahama government’s decision is not politically motivated, arguing that renaming the airport is of significant importance to the Ghanaian people.

“What will happen?” – Kwesi Pratt asks Ken, following his ‘nobody knows what will happen’ statement

0

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has quizzed Ken Agyapong, following a statement he made in his speech while conceding defeat during the NPP presidential primaries.

Ken Agyapong, addressing his supporters call on them to abandon the popular slogan “No Ken, No Vote” following his defeat.

He stated, “I know we have three years to go. Who knows what will happen? So, I want you to be patient. Don’t say ‘No Ken, No Vote’. That slogan should be out”.

Ken further added, “I am a veteran politician, so I know. I have gone through several defeats, so I cushion myself and expected the worst, and the worst has happened, but the worst doesn’t mean that is the end of life.

“So keep faith alive and be happy with the outcome. Who knows what will happen tomorrow…The delegates have spoken, and we have to take it. We don’t know what is in store for us tomorrow.”

He added. “I want to take this opportunity to thank Team Ken for the wonderful work you’ve done. We all admit we worked hard, but God’s time is the best. He knows what is good for us. I know most of you are dejected; you have to keep your spirit up because once we have life, we have everything. I have taken it coolly because in politics you can win, you can lose”.

“Do not use this against anybody in the party. Once they have decided, let’s all come together as party members and work together. Don’t say that ‘no Ken, no vote.’ If it had been Ken, what would other contestants’ supporters have said? So ‘no Ken, no votes’ should be out. Let’s come together as one people,” he added.

He further recognised the contributions of his team, saying, “So, especially Team Ken, the good works that you’ve done, I want to show my appreciation, and at an appropriate time we will meet and dine together”.

Reacting to Ken Agyapong’s statement on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on February 3, 2026, Kwesi Pratt questioned what the former MP was saying.

Kwesi Pratt stated, “Do you remember what Ken said to the ‘No Kennedy, No Vote’ people? He said they should take time because in the three years ahead of us, nobody knows what will happen”

“So, I am asking, what will happen?”

Pratt suggested, “It is either Dr Bawumia will pick him as a running mate or there are other options that Kennedy Agyapong is trying to communicate”.

Meanwhile, Dr Stephen Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has said Ken Agyapong is doing perfectly well following his defeat in the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer election.

According to Dr Stephen Amoah, he is visiting Ken Agyapong to tie up some issues.

He further described Ken Agyapong as a resilient political figure who values the nature of competitive politics.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show on Monday, February 2, Stephen Amoah revealed, “Even this morning, I’m trying to tie up one or two issues, and then I was still going to see Kennedy Agyapong. By the grace of God, he’s doing perfectly well”.

“He’s a politician, and you know the kind of person he is. If you’re close to him, he’s a different person altogether. He’s very fine,” the MP added.

Also, Stephen Amoah further revealed that they are yet to analyse the factors that led to Ken’s defeat in the NPP flagbearer contest.

He added, “When the results came in, we haven’t really sat down to analyse what happened. It’s barely a day. I don’t want to pre-empt anything”.

“What I can say is that the election was very peaceful and very successful. Whatever happened has happened, and as a party, we have won,” he stated.

“We have shown a high level of tolerance, peace and preparedness as a fraternity ready to govern. In the history of this country, I haven’t seen an election as peaceful as this,” Dr Amoah added.

“NPP will also remove Rawlings name from any national monument” – Ellen Ama Daaku

0

Ellen Ama Daaku, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has threatened that the next New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will also remove the late Jerry John Rawlings name from any national monument.

According to Ellen Ama Daaku, the argument being used to change the Kotoka International Airport is that General Kotoka was a coup maker, arguing that the late Jerry John Rawlings was also a coup maker.

Speaking on Angel, Ellen Ama Daaku stated, “Next NPP administration, will also remove Jerry Rawlings’ name from any national monument name after him because he’s also a coup maker”.

Ellen Ama Daaku’s comments have since sparked a debate on social media, with netizens saying, “JJ refused to be named after a university he built with his own money. These are people who have to be celebrated. His coup saved Ghana from the hands of the parents of the people who are currently on the run, dodging accountability.”

“People fought for democracy in Ghana, and it cannot be that JJ willingly gave up power.lt is out of pressure. Rawlings, who had said that he did not believe in the ballot box, how can he restore democracy? He and his cronies got protection under the Constitution”, a netizen added.

“JJ Rawlings is also the father of the 4th republic, the genesis of the very democracy the NPP is relying on to form the next govt.Maybe we should also remove that one and see who will be better off”, one more Ghanaian added.

A Ghanaian added, ““JJ’s legacy goes beyond a coup! This republic we have built post 1992 is all thanks to JJ. Imagine if he refused to hand over power in 2000. We all won’t be seated here listening to career politicians.

We’ve seen it happen too many times on this continent!!!”.

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has opposed the government’s plan to rename the Kotoka International Airport to the Accra International Airport.

Afenyo-Markin described the move to rename Kotoka International Airport as an indictment on the NDC.

However, Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has expressed support for the government’s decision to rename the Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah described the move as a good idea and a step in the right direction.

Speaking to the media when quizzed on the development, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “I think it is a good idea, and I will support it. I think that it should be the Accra International Airport. I will support it”.

Watch Ofosu Nkansah’s GH¢100,000 overseas scholarship claims that sparked NIB probe

0

A video of what the former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, said about a GH¢100,000 overseas scholarship, which triggered Mahama’s call for an NIB probe, has surfaced.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, speaking on Sompa 106.5 FM, alleged that an individual paid money to secure a scholarship to pursue studies abroad under the current NDC government.

He stated, “These are the things Dr Bawumia says he would stop, and so he is bringing digitalisation, which was accepted by the delegates. I would not be a hypocrite to pretend that it doesn’t happen, because even with the new NDC government, I know people who have bought a foreign scholarship… The person bought the scholarship and has travelled abroad.

“I don’t know the exact amount the scholarships are sold for, but some cost up to GH¢100,000. Some NPP members are even buying it to travel abroad, I’m telling you,” he claimed.

He added, “What I’m trying to say is that whether the NDC is in power or the NPP, some of these excesses happen. We cannot pretend or think that it doesn’t happen. I’m talking about things that have already happened.”

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “He needs to be invited to prove who bought it and from whom.  @FelixKwakyeOfo1@JDebrahofficial@joyce_bawah@JusticeSremSai this allegation shouldn’t be allowed to go just like that”.

Another netizen stated, “I think he should be invited by the police CID to provide evidence. We don’t want any I beg biaa o”.

“Which ministry is responsible for this scholarship program? That ministry, in collaboration with @GhPoliceService, should invite this individual for investigation into the alleged fraudulent conduct. This matter should not be allowed to slide, and all persons involved must be held accountable”, one more netizen added.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to immediately investigate corruption allegations in the award of foreign scholarships.

According to the Presidency, the allegation by Kofi Ofosu Nkansah in the award of overseas scholarships is a matter of “grave public concern”.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, highlighted that the discussion, conducted in Twi, has since gained wide public circulation and drawn the President’s attention.

He added that after reviewing the broadcast, President Mahama concluded that the allegation was serious and against the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye revealed that President Mahama has formally directed the National Investigation Bureau to immediately investigate the allegation and to establish the factual basis of the claim.

The NIB are also to identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity of the allegations.

The directive was contained in a letter dated 3rd February 2026, signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President wiith some part saying, “The Bureau has also been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise”.

“Ken Ofori-Atta is now an albatross around the neck of NPP” – Dr Arthur Kennedy

0

Dr Arthur Kennedy, a veteran politician and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta is now an albatross around the neck of the party.

The veteran politician made these remarks while calling on the NPP to sideline former President Akufo-Addo.

According to Dr Arthur Kennedy, the earlier Akufo-Addo takes a back seat, the better for the NPP.

Dr Arthur Kennedy cited that Akufo-Addo refused to sack his cousin Ken Ofori-Atta when mounting pressures were calling for his removal.

He further highlighted that Nana Addo caused the division in the New Patriotic Party when he forced Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the party as the 2024 presidential flagbearer.

Dr Arthur Kennedy stressed that Nana Addo is the leader who has divided the party more than any leader in recent years.

Speaking on TV3’s Agenda programme, Arthur Kennedy stated, “His conduct is inconsistent with the points he made, he was the person who divided the party and tied it hand behind it back and force Dr Bawumia on the party at that time he could have preached unity but he did not he was the person who refused to sack Ken Ofori-Atta who is now an albatross around the neck of the party.

He was the one who told voters in the Ashanti Region that their thumb is their own and they could do whatever they want with it. Nana Addo is a liability to the party; the earlier he takes a back seat, the better for the NPP. As long as we don’t know that we will suffer.

Nana Addo is a liability, is a very big liabilty the earlier he takes a back seat, the better for the NPP and not only that his words are inconsistent with his actions. He has divided the party more than any other leader in our recent history, so he cannot preach unity and be taken seriously.

His comments follow Akufo-Addo’s warning to all the aspirants that the NPP is bigger than any individual during the party’s peace pact.

“The ideology of the NPP remains attractive to Ghanaians. The NPP is bigger than any individual…unity is not an option, a strategic necessity to victory,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gabby Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, has said his cousin Ken Ofori-Atta wants to come to Ghana.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, speaking for the first time publicly regarding Ken Ofori-Atta’s ICE detention, he revealed his cousin is doing well.

Gabby Otchere-Darko stressed that he believes Ken would come to Ghana, and know he wants to come to Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV hosted by Serwaa Amihere, Gabby was asked what Ken Ofori-Atta thought of claims that he was responsible for the “unpopular decisions” on Ghana’s economy during the administration of former President Akufo-Addo.

Gabby stated, “I haven’t seen him for a while, so I don’t know.”

When questioned how he felt about the unpopular decision, he added, “I will keep my feelings to myself, I don’t have an opinion I want to share”.

Speaking about Ofori-Atta’s detention, Gabby said that his cousin is a strong man.

He added that his faith would see him through the challenges he is going through.

Serwaa Amihere then questioned Gabby on pictures of Ofori-Atta’s virtual appearance before a US immigration court from his detention centre. While spotting a black jumpsuit, he stated, “He is a very strong man mentally, so I’m sure he is doing well”.

Serwaa Amihere then asked Gabby about the conversation he had with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, where Gabby is reported to have said that Ken is afraid of returning to Ghana because of how he would be treated.

Gabby responded, saying, “I don’t discuss private conversations publicly, so I don’t wish to discuss it”.

Gabby went on to give the assurance that Ken Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana.

“Why will he not return to Ghana? I believe Ken would come to Ghana, and I know he wants to come to Ghana,” he said.

His statement read, “I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make,” he stated.

“I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me.”

“Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of NATIONAL CHAIRMAN of my party upon the opening of nominations.”

If Mahama runs in the 2028 election, he’ll lose to Bawumia – MP boldly claims

0

Alexander Acquah, the member of parliament for Akim Oda, has made a bold claim following the New Patriotic Party electing their new flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Akim Oda MP claimed that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will beat President John Mahama if he runs for office again for a third term.

Alexander Acquah is quoted by a Kasapa FM news card, which stated, “If President Mahama runs in the 2028 election, he’ll lose to Bawumia”.

However, President John Dramani Mahama made a bold declaration that he will not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections.

According to John Mahama, stepping aside in 2028 would give him the moral authority to hold the line when it comes to Ghana’s fiscal discipline in an election year.

Mahama, during a bilateral discussion with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, criticised the practice of incumbent governments by-passing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters, a cycle he will end.

“I will not be a candidate in the next elections, and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline,” he said.

John Mahama’s declaration was meant to put an end to the growing speculation, but the talks have still persisted.

Meanwhile, Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has debunked the MP’s claims.

Mussa Dankwah reaffirmed his earlier polls in December 2025, which projected Dr Mahamudu Bawumia losing to any NDC Candidate in the 2028 elections.

The Pollster has been quoted by GHOne News card to have said, “We conducted a December poll ahead of 2028, Dr Bawumia lost against Ato Forson, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Julius Debrah and Haruna Iddrisu.

Appearing on Joy News, Evans Mensah quizzed Mussa Dankwah, who has been quoted as saying, Dr Bawumia will lose to any NDC Candidate in 2028.

Mussa Dankwah, responding to the question, stated, “There were polling data for December, I did not open my mouth to say it directly, but the numbers were there we did a match head to head, and those were the outcome of the head to head so whether I quoted, anybody can pick that report and say this what the people are saying.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who was also on the show, interjected, saying, “I have a question, Akwatia, your first poll, what did you say in the by-election.

Mussa Dankwah stated, “NPP was leading”

Oppong Nkrumah then added, and then the final one?

Mussa responded, “NDC took over”.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, there is a long journey before 2028, and anything can happen.

Oppong Nkrumah added, “We take it as feedback. In fact, if you pay attention to his polls, they give you guidance on what to try to ace. If you just go beyond the headline numbers, you can see what people are responding to and what people are not, and if you are a good strategist, you will then know what to try and ace for the game ahead of you.

“The most dangerous thing about Asiedu Nketiah is making people always underestimate him” – Kofi Bentil

0

Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, has showered praises on the  National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

According to Kofi Bentil, Asiedu Nketia is one of the smartest politicians in Ghana.

He highlighted that Asiedu Nketia’s biggest asset is that people underestimate him.

Kofi Bentil added that the NDC National Chairman is extremely smart and extremely effective.

Speaking on TV3 Keypoint, Kofi Bentil stated, “Asiedu Nketia is one of the smartest politicians this country has ever seen, and his biggest asset is that he has cast himself in such a mood that you always underestimate him and he will kill you.

He is an extremely smart guy and extremely effective, don’t use age at all, we are experiencing a bomb, the millennials, Gen Z will take over”.

His comments follow rumours that Asiedu Nketia is lacing up his boots to contest in the NDC presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 elections.

In recent times, the son of Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Charles Akwesi Asiedu, has dropped a cryptic post amid his father’s flagbearer ambition.

Charles Akwesi Asiedu, who serves as a Member of Parliament for Tano South on January 31, 2026, shared a flyer of his father with an inscription which read, “Time Aso oooo Time Aso” meaning “The time has come”.

Asiedu Nketiah’s son’s post quickly attracted attention with several Ghanaians on Facebook indicating that Asiedu Nketiah may be preparing to contest for the NDC flagbearership to succeed President John Mahama.

Furthermore, last year, Johnson Asiedu Nketia reacted to rumours surrounding his presidential ambition.

The NDC chairman emphasised it is too early for the NDC to be thinking about President John Dramani Mahama’s successor.

According to him, when the NDC get to the bridge, they will need to decide who their next flagbearer will be they will cross it.

Asiedu Nketia noted that eight months after the NDC won the 2024 election, the issues must never be about who succeeds President Mahama, but how the NDC government succeeds.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “I have been monitoring this whole discussion about who is running and who is not running for the presidency in the NDC, but I keep repeating my caution that we have to be very careful about the way we express our ambitions. Whoever succeeds President Mahama will ride on the achievements of this government.

So, in your effort to succeed, President Mahama, if you conduct yourself in ways that will disrupt the activities of this government, in ways that will make the government less successful, then you will have a bigger problem when you become flagbearer. That is why I have been cautioning that let us wait till the time,” he stated.

He added, “President Mahama is only about eight months in office now, and you want to struggle for who will replace him. All the names we are hearing, including my own name, are occupying sensitive positions both in the party and the government. If all of us decide to say that people say I can be president, so let me start organizing, then everybody will be going across the country, appointing campaign coordinators and so on.

How do you think that President Mahama can keep the party and government together and focus on achieving anything? If you are a minister and you are overtaken by your desire to be a president, everything you do will be to satisfy your ambition.”

Renaming Kotoka International Airport an indictment on the NDC – Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has opposed the government’s plan to rename the Kotoka International Airport to the Accra International Airport.

The comments follow the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, who announced plans to rename Ghana’s international airport from Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to Accra International Airport.

According to the majority leader, the change would be effected through legislation to be laid before Parliament by the Minister for Transport.

Speaking during a leadership media briefing ahead of the resumption of the Ninth Parliament on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Mahama Ayariga detailed, “We are changing the name of our airport from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport. A bill will be brought by the Minister for Transport for the name to be changed”.

“The Minister for Transport will bring the Maritime Offences Bill and the Road Traffic Bill to deal with the legalisation of okada riding and their operations. He will also bring the Ghana Shippers Council Regulation Bill,” the Majority Leader said.

The Mahama government announcement through the Majority leader follows years of calls by sections of the public and civil society groups.

Some Ghanaians and civil groups argue that the current name does not reflect Ghana’s democratic values, arguing that it honours General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, one of the key figures involved in the 1966 coup that overthrew the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

In related scholarship news, Reports suggest that the former Deputy Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Afua Gyasiwaa Gaisie, has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to reports, Afua Gyasiwaa Gaisie was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau officers moments after arriving at Kotoka International Airport.

Reports suggest her arrest is linked to investigations involving the activities of the Scholarship Secretariat under the previous administration.

The Ghana Chronicles in a post on X wrote, “Former Deputy Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Afua Gyasiwaa Gaisie, has been arrested by National Intelligence Bureau officers moments after arriving at Kotoka International Airport.

Her arrest is linked to ongoing investigations involving activities under the previous administration. She is currently assisting investigators with the inquiry. More updates to follow”.

Also, the  National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) months ago arrested six officials of the Scholarship Secretariat.

The six official arrests follow the ongoing audit into the institution’s operations.

Reports suggest the six were arrested and taken into custody some weeks ago and were later granted bail with further investigations pending.

Meanwhile, the NIB have yet to disclose details of the alleged offences or the specific findings that led to their arrest.

The arrest followed the alleged irregularities under the former leadership of the Secretariat.

He boldly declared, “No warrant, no arrest”.

Also, reports suggest, ShowBwoy’s manager and another person are in police custody after ShowBwoy reportedly resisted arrest and escaped this morning.

His Range Rover has also been seized and is currently at the Police CID Headquarters.

Ghanaian rapper Showboy arrested

Ghanaian musician Sam Sarfo Junior, popularly known as Showboy, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service after initially evading arrest.

In a viral video shared on social media, Showboy was spotted handcuffed and interacting with police officers.

In the video, a police officer who identified herself as ASP was heard engaging Showboy.

A Police Officer from the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) Headquarters was also heard, who stated their boss ordered them to bring Showboy in for detention.

He later requested water and asked to speak to his doctor, claiming he is a psychiatric patient.

However, Albert Nat Hyde, commonly known as Bongo Ideas, had earlier alleged that  Showboy had turned himself in to the Police after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers raided the home to arrest him.

According to Bongo Ideas social media post, Showboy has been referred to a psychiatric assessment following authorities citing his abnormal behaviour after they attempted to arrest him.

He further disclosed that Showboy blackmail allegations case is pending until the outcome of the psychiatric assessment.

In a post on social media on February 2, 2026, Bongo Ideas wrote, “Today, when Showboy turned himself in to the police over blackmail allegations, he was referred for a psychiatric assessment after authorities cited concerns about his mental state due to ‘abnormal behaviour’. The case is pending the outcome of the assessment”.

The update follows, the home Showboy, which was stormed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) some days ago.

Viral videos making rounds on social media showed Showbo being arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

Showboy in the viral video was heard saying, “With no warrant, I’m not following you to the police station. You invade my private residence, and I ask you for the warrant of arrest, and you show me your ID card”.

He was spotted refusing arrest as CID officers reportedly raided his home over the alleged blackmail of entrepreneur David Mensah (Davido GH).

Showboy has been accused of 3 years of harassment, blackmail, and cyberbullying.

Showboy’s brouhaha follows a Ghanaian citizen who has approached the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) seeking urgent intervention against musician and blogger Kwabena Sarfo, known as Showboy, over persistent harassment, blackmail, cyberbullying, and defamation.

The petitioner claims that for the past three years, Showboy has used social media and live streams to make false and damaging statements linking them to criminal activities. He allegedly blackmailed the petitioner, posting private images online and publicly insulting them whenever threats were resisted.

Moments after CID officers raided his house, Showboy took to Snapchat as a video circulating online shows him in a car heading out, reiterating his refusal to submit to an arrest without a warrant.

He boldly declared, “No warrant, no arrest”.

“Expect something ugly from next week” – Cocoa farmers threaten demo over unpaid COCOBOD arrears

0

Francis Teinor, the president of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers Association, has threatened a demonstration over unpaid COCOBOD arrears.

Meanwhile, reports suggest some Cocoa farmers are also contemplating smuggling the beans to neighbouring countries and selling off their lands to illegal miners.

This comes at a time. Ghana Cocoa Board races against time to rethink its financing scheme in cocoa purchases.

Furthermore, a leading member of the pressure group Arise Ghana, Listowel Nana Poku, has claimed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Randy Abbey, cannot differentiate between cocoa and pawpaw.

According to Listowel Nana Poku, Dr Randy Abbey lacks the needed expertise to lead such a sensitive institution like the COCOBOD.

The Arise Ghana man called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately dismiss Dr Randy Abbey as the CEO of COCOBOD.

He labelled Dr Abbey as incompetent, adding that he had already been personally opposed to the appointment from the outset.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem via Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Listowel Nana Poku stated, “I have consistently argued that Dr Randy Abbey lacks competence in cocoa affairs. He should never have been appointed to head COCOBOD. He cannot even differentiate between cocoa and pawpaw,” Poku stated.

“The President should have known better. He is in constant conflict with his colleagues and has stayed in the position far too long. He should have been dismissed long ago.”

Listowel Nana Poku further expressed frustration over the lack of prosecution for alleged financial mismanagement within the board, alleging that previous management of COCOBOD misappropriated $263 million intended for the rehabilitation of 156,000 hectares of cocoa plantations.

What’s the economic relevance of renaming KIA? – NPP MP quizzes

0

Kennedy Osei Nyarko, a ranking member of Parliament’s Roads and Transportation Committee, has questioned the John Mahama government over its plans to rename the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the move to rename the Kotoka International Airport is unnecessary and risks politicising a national asset.

The NPP further called on President John Mahama to halt any plans of renaming the Kotoka International Airport.

The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru argued that the airport has retained its name through different political eras without any attempts to alter it.

In a Facebook post, Kennedy Osei Nyarko stated, “What will be the relevance and the economic impact of this exercise in changing the name of KIA? A name that has been with us even under a Military Rule. Not even Chairman Rawlings made any attempts in renaming the Airport.

The government should not overly politicise everything in this country to the extent of trying to rename an Airport that has served the purpose of generations. This i see it as a travesty of the contributions of our forefathers who laid their lives and wholeheartedly served this nation.

I will urge the president and his Government to immediately abort this planned agenda and let peace reign”.

The NPP MP comment follows, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has announced plans to rename Ghana’s international airport from Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to Accra International Airport.

Also, Veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt has quizzed how Ghana’s airport can be named after a national traitor.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Show, Kwesi Pratt explained, “How do you name an airport after Kotoka? How do you justify naming an airport after a national traitor?… What did he do? He participated in a plot by Western intelligence agencies headed by the CIA to overthrow a popular democratically elected government of Ghana, which was spearheading the African revolution.”

“Today, if you look at agriculture, most of our crops suffer 30 per cent post-harvest losses. This could easily have been cured using radiation. The equipment that were brought in to enable our scientists to use radiation to minimise post-harvest losses was packaged and sold to the United States of America by these reckless persons who staged the 1966 coup, and you want us to honour them?” He emphasised.

Background

Kotoka was a member of the National Liberation Council, which overthrew Ghana’s first president of the republicDr Kwame Nkrumah, in a military coup d’état on 24th February 1966.

The name Kotoka International Airport was originally a military airport used by the British Royal Air Force during World War II in 1946.

History tells us that the facility was handed over to civilian authority after a successful pull-out by the military.

In response to globalisation and the growing demand for air travel at the time, a development project was launched, and the completion of the project set the stage for Ghana Airways to use the airport as its base in 1958.

However, in 1969, the Accra International Airport was renamed Kotoka International Airport in memory of the late Lt. General E.K. Kotoka.

“Kofi Oduro is not a prophet; he is a liar and a hypocrite” – Okatakyie Afrifa fires

0

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a Ghanaian media personality, has fired shots at the Senior Pastor of the Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro.

The Ghanaian media personality took a swipe at Prophet Kofi Oduro following a viral video in which he pleaded with Ghanaians to cut Prophet Bernard ElBernard some slack following his failed prophecy.

In a viral video, Prophet Kofi Oduro appealed to the public to show mercy to Prophet ElBernard after his prophecy that Kennedy Agyapong would win the NPP primaries failed to materialise.

According to Prophet Kofi Oduro, Prophet ElBernard is a genuine man of God.

However, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, reacting to Prophet Kofi Oduro, described him as a liar and a hypocrite.

He accused the man of God of acting out of personal interest and questioning his credibility as a man of God.

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah cited that Kofi Oduro harshly criticised Rev Kusi Boateng when he prophesied victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general election, but is now defending Prophet ElBernard.

Speaking on his For the Records show, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah stated, “I think the hypocrisy in Ghanaian society is too much. So, because Prophet ElBernard prophesied that Kennedy would win, and it didn’t happen, we should forgive him because he is one of you. However, when Rev Kusi Boateng prophesied that the NPP would win the 2024 election, and it didn’t come to pass, he was branded as one of the foolish prophets.

“God has not called Kofi Oduro; he is not a man of God. He is a politician. You need to come clean and let Ghanaians know that you are a member of the NDC and that Julius Debrah is your brother. You have an interest,” he stated.

“Kofi Oduro is not a prophet; he is a liar and a hypocrite. All he wanted was a change of government because Julius Debrah is his brother. He has nothing better to offer Ghanaians in national discourse. He has personal interests and should stop hiding behind the pulpit,” he added.

In related news, Prophet Oduro has urged the clergy to stop using church platforms for political discourse.

According to him, pastors should rather have a gospel to proclaim and souls to win, but such priorities, he argued, are being sidetracked by political involvements.

“Let’s stop this nonsense of helping these politicians. Let’s not use the pulpit for political nonsense. We have a gospel to preach. We have souls to win. We have a Christ to glorify,” he said.

“Most of these politicians are very disrespectful to God, very promiscuous, very adulterous, and most of them don’t care about God. Why do we have to care about them and give them so much attention?” he said.

NPP’s biggest challenge is how to win back the love and trust of Ghanaians – Oppong Nkrumah

0

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Offoase-Ayirebi, has said the  New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) biggest challenge is how to win back the love and the trust of Ghanaians.

The former Information, Works and Housing Minister explained that unity within the New Patriotic Party is crucial and a starting point to winning back power in 2028.

He, however caution that internal cohesion alone would return the NPP to power.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, February 2, 2026, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “We are clear in our minds that when we are united as a party, we are a strong force, but that is only the foundation. The bigger challenge is how to win back the love and the trust of the average Ghanaian”.

“It starts with a lot of candour in what we did that went right, what we did that went wrong, and being able to communicate that clearly to the Ghanaian people,” he said.

“We are not under any illusion that all that we need is a united house. No! Absolutely not,” he added.

“There’s a lot of work behind the scenes that we are beginning to look into,” he said.

“For the first time, we’ve set up a policy secretariat by constitutional fiat in the party,” he explained.

Also, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has told the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that unity is the lifeblood of our party and disunity is its slow poison.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the NPP has historically lost elections whenever disunity crept into its ranks, regardless of its message or leadership.

Afenyo-Markin told NPP members to rally behind the party’s chosen flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

He further cautioned against a repeat of the 2024 elections, citing what he described as “skirt and blouse” voting, which contributed to the party’s defeat.

Afenyo-Marlin traced the party’s electoral fortunes within the Danquah-Busia tradition in 1979, which saw the emergence of the UNC and PFP, paving the way for the PNP under Hilla Limann to win power, adding that electoral losses in 1992, 1996, 2008, and 2012 were also due to a lack of cohesion.

Speaking at a convention of key NPP stakeholders in the Effutu Constituency after the party’s flagbearer contest, Afenyo-Markin explained, “We have to learn from our history when we talk about unity. History has taught us harsh but clear lessons about disunity.

“When our ranks were divided, when factions spoke louder than unity, we lost painfully to the NDC. Each defeat carried a reminder: a divided NPP cannot win, no matter how noble our message is,” he said.

He recounted that the NPP’s victories in 2000, 2004, 2016, and 2020 are evidence of unity being key for electoral success.

The Minority leader added, “When our ranks were divided, when factions spoke louder than unity, we lost painfully to the NDC. Each defeat carried a reminder: a divided NPP cannot win, no matter how noble our message is”.

“But look at the other side of our history. When we stood together as one and rallied behind our leader despite our differences, victory stood with us. The formula for success is therefore clear: unity is the lifeblood of our party; disunity is its slow poison,” he stressed.

“We must not allow the 2024 result to repeat itself, no more ‘skirt and blouse’ voting. If Dr Bawumia fails, it is we who have failed him. Let us not fail him. Let us work for him, work for the party, and work for our country,” he said.

“We have souls to win, let’s not use the pulpit for political nonsense” – Prophet Kofi Oduro to Pastors

0

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the founder of the Alabaster International Ministry, has told fellow Ghanaian pastors to stop using the pulpit for political nonsense.

According to Kofi Oduro, the church has souls to win and God to glorify.

He added that the Church must focus on spiritual matters rather than partisan politics.

Speaking during his sermon on February 1, 2026, Prophet Oduro stated, “Let’s stop this nonsense of helping these politicians. We have a gospel to preach. We have souls to win. We have a Christ to glorify. Let’s not use the pulpit for political nonsense. We have a Christ to glorify”.

The man of God further described some politicians as disrespectful to God, very promiscuous, very adulterous.

“Most of these politicians are very disrespectful to God, very promiscuous, very adulterous, and most of them don’t care about God. Why do we have to care about them and give them so much attention? We have a whole Bible here to preach open the word and preach the word, leave these uncircumcised people. The pulpit is not for political nonsense,” he said.

His remarks follow Prophet ElBernard, who on many occasions boldly declared Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the winner of the NPP primaries, but his prophecy did not come to pass.

Some netizens reacting to Prophet Kofi Oduro’s remarks stated, “You’re very right Prophet. Some have become political Prophets and don’t do their primary assignments. Teach the Word, pray for the nation and lead people well”.

Another netizen added, “Herh this man eh. He’s always talking about social issues during Sunday services with insults in his preaching even though he doesn’t respect his church audience. Today this is what he’s saying? Smha”.

One more X user added, “After he used the same medium to get his brother’s political party elected? Interesting”.

Another Ghanaian added, “I agree with him. It is now becoming a competition among the prophets. Who saw it and prophesied it first or second? Or met them to confirm. Winning souls for Christ should be the focus before any other thing”.

One more netizen stated, “Perfectly said. Anyone who has an issue with this is a moron. The pulpit is not for political nonsense, like the so-called man of God who prophesied that Kennedy would win, is literally insinuating that God lied, such blasphemous, demonic possessed people called pastors”.

Also, Prophet Kofi Oduro, following a viral video in which he pleaded with Ghanaians to cut Prophet Bernard ElBernard some slack following his failed prophecy.

In a viral video, Prophet Kofi Oduro appealed to the public to show mercy to Prophet ElBernard after his prophecy that Kennedy Agyapong would win the NPP primaries failed to materialise.

Bawumia will lose to any NDC Candidate in 2028 – Mussa Dankwah

0

Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has reaffirmed his earlier polls in December 2025, which projected Dr Mahamudu Bawumia losing to any NDC Candidate in the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, Mussa Dankwah has said when when former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is not on the ballot, the NPP sinks.

According to Mussa Dankwah, the Global InfoAnalytics polls regarding the head-to-head between the NPP candidates and NDC candidates, when Bawumia is not on the ballot, the NPP sinks.

He further stressed that if Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is taken out of the NPP, the party’s support in the Northern Region collapses.

Speaking on GHOne TV, Mussa Dankwah stated, “The data shows currently if you take Dr Bawumia out of the NPP equation, their support in the Northern Region collapses, and the Northern Region is not an area that they are strong at.

So you need a figure to hold that region together, and Bawumia is the one who is doing that.

In the Akan areas, that is basically NPP’s base, even if there is a fracture at a point in time, they will come back, but when the North goes from the NPP, it will be hard for them to come back to the NPP. They think that, strategically, it is better to present Dr Bawumia again to hold the North together than ditch him and lose the Northern Region.

Mussa Dankwah added, “From the polls we have done, the scenrio what we call the head-to-head between the NPP candidates and NDC candidates, when Bawumia is not on the ballot, NPP sinks very low nationally, and that number is driven by performance in the North. So they have an eye on that data”.

Before, the NPP had a grip on the Akan part of the country, but now they have lost it, so if they have lost the Akan base and lose the North, that will be a disaster.

Nationally, Akans 36 per cent say they are NDC, 31 per cent say they are NPP. It has never happened before, they are saying that even if the Akans are angry at NPP, it’s theirs, they will come back, but those in the North, if they are angry and go…”.

Bryan Acheampong would have overtaken Ken Agyapong – Mussa Dankwah

0

Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has detailed that Bryan Acheampong could have overtaken Ken Agyapong in the NPP presidential primaries.

The Pollster explained that with a longer campaign period, Bryan Acheampong would have overtaken the former Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong.

Mussa Dankwah is quoted by GHOne in a news card report to have said, “With a longer campaign period, Bryan Acheampong would have overtaken Kennedy Agyapong”.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Mussa Dankwah explained that Bryan overperformed Global InfoAnalytics best case scenarios.

He stated, “Bryan overperformed in our best case. Yes, he did. [Bryan’s performance surprised me]. Even though we saw it coming. In the headline poll, he was at 6 per cent. But in our prediction, we doubled him to 13 per cent. That was probably making him look pessimistic”.

Dr Bawumia in the NPP primaries polled 110,645, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast, which was confirmed by Electoral Commission officials at the party’s headquarters.

Ken Agyapong came in second place with 46, 554 votes (23.76%), while Dr Bryan Acheampong secured third position with 36,303 votes (18.53%).

They were followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes (1.02%) and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth with 402 votes, representing 0.21%.

In addition, Mussa Dankwah has said that Ken Agyapong’s team are a lot more bitter following their defeat in the NPP presidential primaries.

He highlighted that polling data suggests that the problem of disunity within the NPP is not coming from the grassroots but from the top levels.

Speaking on JoyNews on February 2, 2026, Mussa Dankwah explained, “Polling data shows that about 80% of NPP delegates are hopeful there will be unity in the party. That’s the grassroots. The problem is not with them, but at the top level of the campaigns,” he said.

“Once we are able to reconcile them, I don’t think there will be a problem at the bottom,” he noted.

Mussa Dankwah added, “Moving forward, how do you do that? What role does Kennedy Agyapong want to play going forward? What role does Bryan Acheampong want to play in the campaign? They must be seen to place a sense of unity above everything else”.

“For where NPP is now, they don’t need any division in their ranks to face the NDC going forward. I believe, and I sincerely hope, that both camps would do that. What you sometimes feel is that people around Ken’s team are a lot more bitter,” he shared.

Meanwhile, Maurice Ampaw, a Legal practitioner, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) do not need a Vice President from the Ashanti Region.

According to Maurice Ampaw, the Ashanti Region already loves Dr Bawumia, adding that Bryan Acheampong and he should be picked as running mates for the NPP.

He detailed that Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), who was Dr Bawumia’s running mate, should sit somewhere for Bryan Acheampong, whom he labelled as the darling boy whose future is bright.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, Maurice Ampaw stated, “Bryan Acheampong, the darling boy, if it was up to me alone, he would be the vice president straight away. He is a vice president material.

The Ashanti Region, we love Bawumia, we don’t need a Vice President from the Ashanti Region. Napo should find somewhere and sit. Bryan has shown that he has constituencies before God and man, if Bawumia is put asided Bryan could have defeated Ken Agyapong because the vote that went for Bawumia will go to Bryan.

Bryan has taken over; he has youth on his side, knows how to speak and has the knowledge. Security-wise, the NDC is afraid of him. A vice president who has money and has wisdom, on top of security issues and someone the NDC is afraid of”, he added.

“Kotoka International Airport to be renamed Accra International Airport” – Majority Leader

0

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has announced plans to rename Ghana’s international airport from Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to Accra International Airport.

In related news, Veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt has quizzed how Ghana’s airport can be named after a national traitor.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Show, Kwesi Pratt explained, “How do you name an airport after Kotoka? How do you justify naming an airport after a national traitor?… What did he do? “I did not mean to make derogatory statements” – Relative of GH student murdered in Latvia begs Ablakwa

0

A relative of Nana Yaw Agyei Ahyia, the Ghanaian student who died in Latvia, has issued a public apology to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

In an earlier video, the relative claimed that Nana Agyei’s mother was called to Kotoka International Airport to join the delegation travelling to Latvia to seek justice for him.

Upon arriving at the airport, she was informed that her plane ticket was fake, even though she had previously been charged GHS 2,000 for her visa processing fees.

Nana Agyei’s visibly distraught relative also noted that while at the airport, they saw the delegation, which included government appointees, preparing to depart for Latvia.

She questioned why a grieving mother should have to endure such an ordeal and is calling on the public to help spread this information so it reaches the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

According to her, family members who were initially included in the delegation list by the Minister of Foreign Affairs were later removed.

She further quizzed why the mother’s passport was allegedly being withheld while government officials had already travelled.

However, the relative of Nana Yaw Agyei Ahyia has now explained that her earlier allegations were made out of frustration.

She further stressed that she did not mean to make derogatory statements against the Ablakwa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking in another video, the relative stated, “There’s a video of mine that circulated that did not sit well with the Honourable Foreign Affairs Minister. Please, I made that video out of frustration and what Nana Agyei’s mother was going through at that time”.

“I did not mean to make derogatory statements against the minister and his ministry as a whole”

“Please, temper justice with mercy. I thank you all for your hard work, your support throughout this journey, and I want to commend the Foreign Affairs Minister for his support in getting justice for Nana Agyei,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced his arrival in Latvia to personally lead a fact-finding mission over the death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia.

Ablakwa announced the visit on social media, revealing he is accompanied by a six-member delegation made up of senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a forensic expert and a pathologist.

He further revealed that the Latvian Foreign Minister has assured Ghana of her government’s full cooperation to help uncover the truth and bring closure to the bereaved family.

Ablakwa further clarified that Nana Agyei’s family, whom he invited to join his delegation could not travel with them on Saturday night due to visa issues.

He added that there has been no case of extortion or the issuance of fake tickets, adding that all delegations are fully funded by the ministry.

The Foreign Affairs minister in a post wrote, “I have arrived in Latvia for a two-day official visit.

I thank the Foreign Minister of Latvia, Her Excellency Baiba Braže, for the warm reception and for the productive bilateral engagements earlier today.

As I promised Ghanaians, the main reason for requesting to pay this official visit is the distressing and unclear circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia.

The Latvian Foreign Minister has conveyed firm assurances to me that her government will fully cooperate with Ghana in the pursuit of truth and justice.

I am leading a 6-member delegation made up of senior directors from the Foreign Ministry, a forensic expert and a pathologist.

Unfortunately, due to visa processing delays, the two members of Nana Agyei’s family whom I invited to join my delegation could not travel with us on Saturday night. I have been informed that their visas were issued today and, therefore, are scheduled to travel tonight so they can join us tomorrow morning.

It is worth clarifying that all family members and experts accompanying me on this delegation are fully funded by the ministry.

There has been no case of extortion or the issuance of fake tickets as has been alleged, without any evidentiary basis whatsoever.

My delegation is expected to continue with our engagements tomorrow with confirmed meetings with the ministries of the Interior, Education and investigators on the case.

Ghana’s Foreign Ministry shall remain focused and resolute in safeguarding the welfare and dignity of all Ghanaians,” the post concluded.

“Prosecute Ofori-Atta in absentia and stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians” – Kodua tells NDC

0

Justin Frimpong Kodua, the  New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, has told the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to prosecute former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia.

The NPP General Secretary stressed that if the NDC are convinced Ken Ofori-Atta has committed a crime, they should prosecute him in absentia and stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.

Justin Kodua accused the NDC of turning Ofori-Atta’s absence from the country into a political weapon and questioned the constant public accusations without formal charges.

According to Justin Kodua, Ken Ofori-Atta has become a convenient political talking point for the NDC, used to deflect attention from broader national concerns being raised by Ghanaians.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on February 2, 2026, Justin Kodua stated, “If they truly believe Ken Ofori-Atta has committed a crime, they should go ahead and try him in absentia. The NPP tried Sedina Tamakloe in absentia, so if they can’t locate Ken, the law gives them that option provided they have evidence and a solid case”.

“They should file the charges and take him to court. Now, everything that goes wrong is blamed on Ken simply because he is not in Ghana,” he insisted.

Justin Kodua added, “Ken is now their message. When people complain about water bills, they mention Ken. When unemployment comes up, they say Ken is not in Ghana”.

“If they have evidence, the courts are there. The law provides the path. They should prosecute the case and stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians,” he stressed.

Meanwhile,  Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has said there is so much drama surrounding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to Kwesi Pratt, Ghana’s laws provide a clear path for an individual to be tried in absentia.

He further quizzed why authorities and political actors have allowed the situation to escalate, adding that the unfolding events amount to political theatre on all sides.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana,  Kwesi Pratt Jnr explained, “The fact that our laws allow trial in absentia, so what is all this drama and so on? If Mr Ofori-Atta does not come, go ahead and try him in absentia. So, what is the drama about? I don’t understand what is happening”.

“There’s so much drama, and I think a lot of it is political theatre and both on the side of Mr Ofori-Atta himself and those who support him, and also those on the other side, there seems to be too much political theater and I’m not comfortable with political theatre in matters such as this,” Pratt stated.

He “Clearly, there may be questions that he has to answer. Indeed, there are questions that he has to answer. If he won’t be here to answer, take it before a judge.

“Let a judge make a determination as to whether indeed there have been violations of the laws of this country, and if there have been violations of the laws of this country, apply the penalty. I just don’t understand why there’s so much drama around this case… To be honest, I’m getting increasingly worried about all the drama. All the drama is totally unnecessary,” he queried.

Kwasi Pratt further debunked claims that Ofori-Atta would face humiliation upon his return to Ghana, arguing that being put under arrest is not humiliation.

The veteran journalist added, “If I were Mr Ofori-Atta, I would have returned to Ghana because the circumstances in Ghana today will show that he would arrive at the airport, he would probably be put under arrest and being put under arrest is not humiliation. He would be put under arrest.

“He would be given all the necessary conditions for bail, and then he would get his bail, and he would go home and rest like all his other colleagues who are facing similar processes go home,” he indicated.

“This case can drag on for 10 years or more, given the fact that Mr Ofori-Atta appears to have substantial resources at his disposal. We can hire the best lawyers; his lawyers can play the legal game in court and so on, and this case can drag on for 8 – 10 years and so on, during which period, he will still be enjoying some measure of respect and freedom and so on. I cannot understand why there is this standoff, him refusing to come, and all the drama and so on,” he concluded.

“Showboy turns himself in to the Police, referred for a psychiatric assessment” – Bongo Ideas alleges

Albert Nat Hyde, commonly known as Bongo Ideas, has alleged that  Sam Safo, popularly known as Showboy, has turned himself in to the Police after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers raided the home to arrest him.

Bongo Ideas, update follows, the home Showboy, which was stormed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) some days ago.

A Ghanaian citizen has approached the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) seeking urgent intervention against musician and blogger Kwabena Sarfo, known as Showboy, over persistent harassment, blackmail, cyberbullying, and defamation.

Also, reports suggest, ShowBwoy’s manager and another person are in police custody after ShowBwoy reportedly resisted arrest and escaped this morning.

His Range Rover has also been seized and is currently at the Police CID Headquarters.

I’ll start collecting taxes if gov’t does not stop Asantehene from using Asante flag – Dormaahene warns

0

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, the Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, has warned that he would start taking his own taxes in Dormaa.

According to the Dormahene, he would start taking his own taxes if the government does not stop the Asantehene from using the Asante flag in Ghana.

The Dormahene stressed that Ghana is one, and all Ghanaians have agreed that President John Mahama is the one we are following.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, the Dormaahene stated, “Everywhere he would go, the Ghana flag is supposed to be in front of him; any other flag must be lowered.

I Agyemang Badu II, I will rise up in Ghana, I will go to Dormaa and collect taxes, and I will see who can stop me, that is where they will know the issue is huge”, he declared.

In related news, the Dormaahene last year praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his work in the Bawku mediation.

The Dormaahene highlighted that the Asantehene’s Bawku mediation work deserves commendation, as the task was a difficult one.

He further cautioned the Ghanaian public against speaking negatively or belittling the mediation efforts.

According to the Dormaahene, the Asantehene deserves commendation for achieving a positive outcome.

Speaking to his subject in a viral video shared on social media, the Dormaahene cautioned, “The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, just recently, President Akufo-Addo gave him a task, and President Mahama also asked him to continue. Some people are speaking against the work, some are Chiefs, MPs, and even the MPs’ comments. I thought it was not true because with social media, everyone can say anything”.

“I am pleading with everyone that the mediation efforts carried out by the Asantehene, in Bawku was a difficult one and deserve commendation, given the difficulty of the task he undertook, and there is no criticism needed; anyone engaging in that should desist from it”, he added.

However, the Dormaahene and the Asantehene feud stems from historical claims, which Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II believes are being misrepresented in the public domain.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, some weeks ago, punched holes in the historical tales of Okomfo Anokye.

History tells us that the Asante Kingdom was founded in the 18th century by King Osei Tutu I, with the direction of his spiritual leader, Okomfo Anokye.

According to historical accounts, Okomfo Anokye planted two trees in a forest, saying one would grow to become the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom, with the other dying.

However, in a recent viral video, the Dormahene has debunked the tales as lies.

Meanwhile, the  Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has revealed that plans are in motion to help resolve the ongoing feud between Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Ahmed Ibrahim revealed he has engaged some stakeholders to help mediate the feud that appears to be escalating.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Ahmed Ibrahim detailed, “The Dormahene is my father, and the Otumfuo is also my father, but looking at the way things are going, they are part of the two powerful Kings we have in the country, and their efforts in resolving most issues in the country are high. They are structures we cannot do without as a country.

Ahmed Ibrahim cited the Saudi King, Morocco and Dubai using their Chieftaincy to transform their country.

“If you listen to what I said about the Saudi King, Morocco and Dubai, their Chieftaincy transformed their country so clearly, Ghana, we can use our chieftaincy to transform the country”, he added.

The minister noted, “In Ghana, we can also use our Chieftaincy to develop the country. When we had the Dagbon issue, was it not Opemsuo (Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) who resolved it?

“As Minister responsible for Chieftaincy, I have spoken to some people about this matter, and we will engage them further. So, we will speak to them. This is the first time I am saying it. I respect authority”,  he stated.

“We are not on the payroll of NPP, but…” – Owusu-Bempah reveals how his intercessors averted NPP bloodshed

0

Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has said he gave intercessors of his church sleepless nights to avert bloodshed during the NPP presidential primaries.

It will be recalled that Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, during his 31st Night Service on December 31, 2025, dropped a prophecy ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

According to the man of God, if care is not taken, the NPP primaries will be chaotic with bloodshed, people losing their lives, leading to division in the party.

Speaking during the 2025 31st Night Service, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah stated, “NPP, please listen to this. Don’t despise what I’m saying to you… I saw an image which had human characteristics; it was like a human being. And this personality was standing in the midst of the contestants who were contesting in the flagbearership race.

“I saw that the personality, the image standing in the midst of the contestants, was bleeding, and I was asking God, what is the significance of this? And God said to me that the party’s election, if care is not taken and they are not careful enough, will become chaotic and there will be bloodshed, and some people will lose their lives in the process, and it will lead to division in the party,” he said.

He added, “Don’t despise what I’m saying. This is not politics; I’m not doing politics here. This is about the lives of people.”

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, his church is not on the payroll of the NPP, but after God told him about the impending loss of lives and bloodshed, he interceded.

The man of God revealed that on Friday, his intercessors stay in church praying into the night to avert any evil that could have happened.

Rev Owusu Bempah further stressed that in spite of what his Church did, the NPP still insults him.

Rev Owusu-Bempah speaking stated, “It hurts me that some people don’t appreciate us. We are not on the payroll of the NPP, but because of what God told me, I give my intercessors sleepless nights. On Fridays, they stay in church praying into the night so that nothing evil would happen during the primaries.

“They don’t pay us for what we do, yet in spite of what we do, they insult us, because God spoke to me that we should pray so that nothing bad happens,” he said.

“So, when they finished the election, and there was nothing evil that happened, I was so thankful to God. There was no bloodshed, which means that God stopped the negativity He revealed to us because we prayed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, was elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once again after a peaceful presidential primaries.

The former Vice President secured a commanding victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday Janurary 31, 2026.

“Every road under the Big Push initiative will be tolled” – Roads Minister announces

0

Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has announced that every road project under President John Mahama’s Big Push initiative will be tolled.

The Road Minister revealed that the tolls will be used to raise money for road maintenance.

Kwame Governs Agbodza is quoted by GHOne TV news card to have said, “ Every road under the Big Push initiative will be tolled to raise money for its maintenance”.

Also, the Roads minister in an interview on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show revealed that the government’s proposed Accra–Kumasi expressway project will take off mid-year after feasibility and costing.

The Roads Minister detailed that the government is taking a guarded approach to avoid cost overruns and design errors.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show, the Road Minister explained, “We want to take time to make sure that when we come out and say we need X amount of money to build the about 200km from Accra to Kumasi, we don’t come back and tell you that we want to double that money simply because we made a mistake,” Mr Agbodza said.

“We are expecting the final draft somewhere in May, June, but we are giving ourselves July or August, just in case there’s something they missed or something we need to add,” he explained.

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has announced that a whopping sum of $30.8 billion has been allocated to the Big Push program in 2026.

Speaking at the 77th Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana on Tuesday, January 6, the President stated, “We are investing massively in improving our infrastructure. And this year, we invested more than $13 billion in our Big Push Program. In 2026, we have allocated a whopping sum of $30.8 billion for the Big Push Program”.

“This will see massive improvements in our road network, in rail, in aviation, in health, in education, in agribusiness, and manufacturing.”

President Mahama also announced plans to cut sid for the commencement of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

He told critics of the project that he wished they were in the traffic jam over the New Year that was caused by a Believers Worship Centre.

Mahama explained, “For those who have spoken against this expressway, I wish that they were in the traffic jam over the New Year. When one single church holding a convention brought the Accra-Kumasi road into gridlock for more than seven hours. Accra is the biggest city in Ghana and the capital. Kumasi is the next biggest city in Ghana.

“And the traffic between these two cities, it’s a shame that we have a single-lane road linking our two major cities. This will be a thing of the past, and I’m looking forward to cutting sod early this year for the commencement of construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway”.

“For those people who miscommunicate and try to twist my words, the new city will not be the capital. The capital will continue to be the seat of government, and it will be the capital of Ghana.

“But we’ll create a new city that will be smart, that will be innovative, there will be no kiosks, no containers, and no beggars on the streets.”

“Give Bawumia a chance” – Dr Arthur Kennedy begs Ghanaians

0

Dr Arthur Kennedy, a veteran politician and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has begged Ghanaians to give the former vice president and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a chance to become president of Ghana.

However, an elderly man has quizzed what Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is coming back to do after emerging victorious in the party’s primaries.

He questioned whether the dollar, now trading at about 10 cedis, would be pushed to 17 cedis, and whether petrol, currently around 9 cedis, would rise to the same level.

According to him, Ghana does not need to go backwards.

Speaking in a viral video, the elderly man stated, “This issue is disturbing me. Now that Bawumia has won, what is he coming to do? I am not worried about his win, dollar is now 10 cedis, is he coming to move it to 17 cedis? Ghana, are we going to go backwards? How much is cement now? 70 cedis is he coming to send it back, 102 cedis or what?

Look at the price of petrol, how much is one litre, it is 9 cedis, is he coming to send it 22 cedis?”, he questioned.

In related news, Dr Arthur Kennedy has said former president Nana Addo is a liability to the party.

According to Dr Arthur Kennedy, the earlier he takes a back seat, the better for the NPP.

He highlighted that Nana Addo caused the division in the New Patriotic Party when he forced Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the party as the 2024 presidential flagbearer.

Fisherfolk Sustainability Network (FSN) Donates Life Jackets to Coastal Communities

0

Coastal communities across the Volta Region have received a major boost to safety and resilience following the official launch of the fisherfolk Sustainability Network (FSN) in Keta.

The ceremony, brought together traditional leaders, government officials, fisherfolk groups, landing beach committees, women in the fisheries value chain, partner organizations, and civil society actors.

Speaking at the launch, Christabel Ewedji, founder of the fisherfolk Sustainability Network described the occasion as “a significant milestone, not just for the organization, but for every coastal community whose livelihoods depend on safe, sustainable, and resilient fishing practices”.

FSN was established to confront the growing challenges faced by coastal fishing communities which includes rising safety risks at sea, environmental degradation, inadequate access to training and the worsening effects of climate change.

According to Christabel Ewedji, the Network’s vision is “to encourage safety practices during fishing expeditions, and to promote the safe handling, processing, and distribution of fish products”. She emphasized that FSN’s work is anchored in internationally recognized safety standards, including Chapter 3, Section 2 of the 2005 Code of Safety for Fishermen and Fishing Vessels.

“These pillars define who we are and what we aim to accomplish”, Christabel Ewedji said. “They reflect our commitment to empowering communities, safeguarding our oceans, and ensuring that every fishing activity, from the moment a canoe leaves shore to the point fish products reach the consumer, is grounded in knowledge, responsibility, and care”.

A key highlight of the event was the donation of 60 certified life jackets to fisherfolk in Keta-Vodza, one of Volta region’s busiest landing communities. The intervention comes at a time when safety concerns at sea continue to rise due to unpredictable weather patterns and operational accidents.

“This donation is more than an item presentation; it is a commitment to saving lives”, Christabel Ewedji noted during the handover ceremony. The presentation coincided with activities marking World Fisheries Day 2025, drawing loud applause from community members who described the gesture as timely and life-saving.

FSN also conducted intensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training for landing beach committee members drawn from Keta, Ketu South, and Anloga. Participants were trained in CPR, drowning prevention, wound management, and safe rescue techniques. Skills that are essential for communities that frequently respond to emergencies at sea.

Throughout the ceremony, FSN was celebrated as more than just a new organization. The network was heralded as the beginning of a transformative movement within the fisheries sector.

Christabel Ewedji ended the event with a call for broad collaboration and partnership: “As we begin this journey, we reaffirm our commitment to transparency, accountability, and meaningful impact. The FSN is calling for collaboration and partnership to make this vision a reality”.

The launch marks the start of what many hope will be a long-term, community-driven effort toward safer seas, environmental stewardship, and strengthened coastal livelihoods across the Volta Region.

“I will be open-hearted and open-armed to everybody, even those who insulted me” – Bawumia

0

The newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said he would be open-hearted and open-armed to everybody, even those who insulted him during the NPP primaries.

Dr Bawumia further revealed he is happier about his performance in the party’s 2026 presidential primaries than in 2023.

Dr Bawumia detailed that the whole country spoke for him, and looking at the data, his 2026 result is superior to 2023 qualitatively.

The NPP flagbearer highlighted that in Greater Accra, he won 32 out of 34 constituencies, but in 2023, he won 19 and further cited the 100 per cent win in some other constituencies across the country.

He added, “The whole country spoke, frankly, I am happier about these results than I was in 2023. If you look at the data, this is a superior result than 2023 qualitatively because we have won more constituecies that we did the last time.

100 per cent in Western North, so many places, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East, 100 per cent of all those seats. Ashanti 45 out of 47 massively, in Greater Accra 32 out of 34. In 2023, I won 19 and this time 32”.

Dr Bawumia further added, “Going round the country, I was very expectant looking at how we were being received across the country, but actually had it manifest yesterday was something to uphold.

So, the responsibility has been placed on us, and we have to deliver and to expect nothing short of victory in 2028. A lot of confidence has been repose on me, and we have to deliver the victory from now to 2028; we have three years to do it”.

If Dr. Bawumia fails, it is we who have failed him. Let us not fail him. Let us work for him, work for the party, and work for our country,” he said.

“No case of extortion or fake tickets” – Ablakwa breaks silence after arriving in Latvia

0

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced his arrival in Latvia to personally lead a fact-finding mission over the death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia.

His comments follow a viral video, in which a relative claimed that Nana Agyei’s mother was called to Kotoka International Airport to join the delegation travelling to Latvia to seek justice for him.

However, in a statement issued on February 2, 2026, the Ministry said the allegation made in the  circulating video are“false, misleading, and unfounded.”

Background

The 18-year-old Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student studying in Latvia, died under what the family believes were mysterious circumstances.

Nana Agyei Ahyia was a first-year Electrical Engineering (Adaptronic) student at Riga Technical University and passed away on June 4, 2025.

According to the family, he had been living in an apartment on Baznicas Street in Riga.

On June 1, 2025, just three days before his death, he reportedly sent a disturbing voice note claiming he had been poisoned. Three days later, on June 4, 2025, his relatives were informed that he had allegedly fallen from the sixth floor of his apartment and died.

“NPP happy with Afenyo-Markin, People running their own commentary” – Nana B

0

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that the party is very happy with the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to Nana B, the Minority leader has been a very formidable leader for the NPP in parliament in their difficult times.

Nana B stressed that it would be in the interest of the NPP to allow Afenyo-Markin continue to work.

The NPP National Organiser further noted that some people are running their own commentary over claims that the NPP is planning to replace Afenyo-Markin as Minority leader.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, February 2, Nana Boakye explained, “Hon Afenyo-Markin has been an outstanding leader, especially for us in these difficult times. He’s been very formidable in parliament. In fact, for me I would say that it will be in the interest of the party for him to continue his work.

“…The party is very happy with the work he is doing, how he puts things together, and his leadership. We are very happy with the work he is doing…People are just running their own commentary.”

His comment follows allegations that Afenyo-Markin did not work in the interest of the flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Persons calling for Afenyo-Markin’s removal backed their call with Saturday’s Presidential primary, following Kennedy Agyapong winning the highest number of votes in the Effutu Constituency, polling 644 votes, while Dr Bawumia received 79 votes and Dr Bryan Acheampong 32 votes.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed that Ken Agyapong is a true and trusted friend in whom he shares a code.

According to Afenyo-Markin, his relationship with Kennedy Agyapong remains unsoiled till time shall be no more, however, adding that NPP comes first.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that Ken Agyapong has passion, belief in accountability and has an unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian.

Speaking during a programme in his constituency on February 1, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We salute Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for his passion, his firm belief in accountability and his unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian. For me personally, this is a true and trusted friend, with whom I share a code. I believe that in life, loyalty to friendship is very essential.

“A man must not forget his friend because there is everything wrong with betraying a friend. My relationship with him remains unsoiled, till time shall be no more. But I equally recognize and he himself recognises, that our party comes first, “he said.

“I am therefore happy to inform you, my constituents, that yesterday he graciously, without any prompting, spoke with our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. It was a short but hearty chat, and he gave his commitment to support Dr Bawumia to win the 2028 election.

Also, Afenyo-Markin, during the NPP primaries on January 31, issued a statement over alleged claims of him influencing voters in Effutu.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the claims of his influencing voters and compromised ballot secrecy are entirely false and constitute a deliberate distortion of facts.

The minority leader stressed that he has been targeted by certain unscrupulous individuals throughout the beginning of the flagbearer contest.

“My oil isn’t gentle, I would have been much dirtier with Ken” – Nigel Gaisie

0

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, the founder and leader of the Prophetic Hill Chapel, has revealed he would have been more “dirtier” with Kennedy Agyapong if he hadn’t been advised otherwise.

According to Nigel Gaisie, his annointing is “aggressive” and “violent”  and would have been hostile against the NPP presidential candidate if he hadn’t been cautioned by senior prophets whom he highly respected.

Nigel Gaisie disclosed that Ken Agyapong was not fair to him as a person and wasn’t fair to the body of Christ.

Speaking following the viral video of him praying fervently against Kennedy Agyapong.

In the viral video, Nigel Gaisie was seen tearing pieces of paper and placing them into a bottle of anointing oil while praying against Ken Agyapong.

Speaking in the viral video, Nigel Gaisie stated, “Because you stood against me, a prophet of the Lord, I have written your name 13 times. On the election day, the North wind will blow against you, the east will blow against you and the south.

You will know that there are prophets in Ghana, for my sake, Ken Agyapong, you are going down as I have written your name into this bottle, I bury you, politics will reject you”.

Nigel Gaisie, speaking to GHOne, stated, “My oil is not a gentle type of oil. I stand for the church. I’m aggressive and violent. And even during this primary, I would have been much more raw and dirty if I weren’t called by some of my senior men, whom I have a lot of respect for. I would have been very, very dirty with Kennedy”.

“He wasn’t fair as a person and wasn’t fair to the body of Christ. I’m privy to a lot of things he was about to do, which didn’t come out. Because of where I stand, I can’t bring them out unless I’m pushed to do so. And if that happens, nobody in the world would have gone to church again. If he attacked Bishop Dag Heward Mills, that would have been huge, which he started, but what one or two things happened behind the curtains and did not go well for…”

“If somebody has broken the law, you are a big person. At that time, the NPP was in power. Let national security or the security apparatus handle the person and deal with the issue. We are not in a jungle where it is the rule of men; it is the rule of law. It is not the sentiments of men that rule, but the rule of law. If Nigel Gaisie has murdered somebody, call me, let me face the music,” he added.

It will be recalled that Kennedy Agyapong, in the past, launched a crusade to expose what he described as fake pastors in Ghana.

Mr Agyapong’s on his Hot Seat show on Net 2 TV targeted Prophet Nigel Gaisie, leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, and Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder and leader of International God’s Way Church, and other men of God he claimed were fake.

Also, Nigel Gaisie, before the NPP primaries, warned that  Kennedy Agyapong must not be allowed anywhere close to power.

The man of God recounted that Ken Agyapong lied about him, which could have landed him in jail.

Nigel Gaisie further warned Ken Camp to stop editing his videos to suit their interest.

In a Facebook post, Prophet Nigel Gaisie wrote, “Somebody should tell Kennedy’s team to stop editing my videos to suit their interest. I am still Nigel Gaisie.”

“Kennedy lied about me, but for Hon. Theresa Awuni, I would have been in jail by now,” he stated.

“I have no private interest in their campaign. They should not invite me,” he said. “If not, 30 per cent kraaa dey no go get.”

“Again, they should not annoy me or invite me. I am thinking about myself,” he added.

“Kennedy is a dangerous character and must not be allowed close to power. Nobody should invite me because I will be very, very rough,” he concluded.

“Ken told me in private that a Muslim cannot be a president in Ghana” – KT Hammond spills

0

KT Hammond, the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and a close friend of Kennedy Agyapong, has explained why he did not support Ken’s bid to become NPP flagbearer.

According to KT Hammond, KenAgyapong is a very close friend, adding that his relationship with Ken Agyapong is not a food relationship.

KT Hammond revealed that Ken had disclosed to him in private that a Muslim could not become president, adding that he told him that was nonsense.

Speaking in an interview on January 31, 2026, KT Hammond explained, “But he had been going on about this Muslim thing. In private, he had told me that if you were Muslim, you cannot be a president in Ghana. I told him, you are talking nonsense.

“Keep this between the two of us. You go out, and you talk nonsense like that; there will be a problem. You know I’m a Muslim.

“Do you people know I’m a Muslim? And I go and follow Ken for him to spread the message that as a Muslim, you can’t be president.

“You think I’m mad? Apart from his money, what has distinguished me from Kennedy Agyapong? If he could be president, you think I can’t be president? Tell me, I can be president, Ken can be president. And you expect me to go and follow him and send a campaign to Muslims that we Muslims cannot be president,” he added.

KT Hammond further revealed that Ken Agyapong recently insulted him over a matter that he had wanted to disclose to him.

He narrated, “My relationship with Ken Agyapong is not a food relationship; we go deep, deep down. The reason why, he adopted me as his brother is because of the extraordinary amount of help that I have bestowed on him.

Sometime in August, I was sitting at my desk when Ken called me. He made a complaint about the MP for Mampong about something that had happened in Mampong that did not seem to be true. That matter had gone viral, it was that Adu Boahene thing, which ended up with all the name-calling he piled on Dr Bawumia”.

He further added, “ I have been given some information related to Ken himself, and I thought it was important I give it to him, so I said to Ken, but I have actually been looking for you because there is this matter that I want to bring to your attention. This is all I said. Ken insulted me as if he had gone mad, as if he had gone bonkers. He said whatever he wanted to say to me.

“And I’m telling you, the wife that I mentioned was crying in the car. They were shouting at him, Ken, this is actually KT you are talking to. What is the matter?” he recounted.

Meanwhile, Ken Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, has accepted the results of the party’s presidential primary, calling for all supporters to back Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Ken Agyapong, he pledges his support and has accepted the results declared by the EC.

He further called on his supporters to stay calm, respect the results as they work to win the 2028 election.

Speaking after the declaration of results by the Electoral Commission at the party headquarters in Accra on Saturday, January 31, Ken Agyapong stated, “I stand before you to pledge my support and also to accept the results declared by the EC. The delegates have spoken, and I want to plead with my supporters that they should stay calm and respect the results and help all of us to work together to win the 2028 elections”.

“I want to thank my supporters and advise you that in an election, you can win and lose. So if you lose, you need to accept it in good faith,” he added.

“So let’s all of us throw our support to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer, and all I say is NPP we need unity in the party, but unity comes with respect. we have to respect each other’s views,” he stated.

NPP don’t need a VEEP from the Ashanti region; Napo should sit somewhere for Bryan – Maurice Ampaw

0

Maurice Ampaw, a Legal practitioner, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) do not need a Vice President from the Ashanti Region.

However, Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the NPP flagbearer, has said all aspirants in the NPP 2026 presidential race could be running mates to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Miracles Aboagye, finishing second in the contest does not form part of the criteria for selecting a vice-presidential candidate.

His comments follow speculation that Dr Bryan Acheampong’s strong performance in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer contest could place him in pole position for the running mate slot.

Speaking on Channel1 TV on Sunday, February 2026, Miracles Aboagye detailed the NPP’s criteria for selecting a running mate.

Miracles Aboagyeexplained, “The selection of the mate is purely the prerogative of the candidate in consultation with the National Council. There are several criteria that come into play. One of them does not include becoming second or third in the contest”.

“All the aspirants we ran with Dr Bawumia are people who could actually be running mates, but not because they ran with him and they were second or third or fourth,” he said.

He added, “It is a prerogative of the candidate in consultation with the National Council,” he said, adding that “when the time is due, the indicators will be used to ensure that the right person, the best person, is selected to run with Dr Bawumia to give us the outcome that we want as a party.”

Meanwhile, reports claim Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, is reportedly positioning himself for the vice-presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general election, should Dr Bawumia secure the party’s flagbearership.

Ghana Chronicles in a post on X stated, “Sources close to the Bawumia campaign say Mr Annoh-Dompreh has been openly critical of Dr Bawumia’s 2024 running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, arguing that the former Energy Minister added little electoral value to the ticket in the December 2024 elections and should not be retained should Dr Bawumia secure the party’s nomination again.

The Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP is said to be touting his own credentials in support of his ambitions, citing his parliamentary seniority as a fourth-term legislator, his current role as Minority Chief Whip, and what he describes as his broad national appeal.

He has also reportedly cited his maternal Ashanti heritage, fluency in Ewe, marriage to a northern woman, Barbara, and his representation of a constituency in the Eastern Region as factors that enhance his appeal as a unifying figure within the opposition party”.

About 85,000 people don’t believe Dr Bawumia should lead NPP – MP

0

Cletus Seidu Dapilah, the member of parliament for Jirapa, has said that about 85,000 NPP delegates don’t believe Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should lead the party.

He noted that the 85,000 should be a concern for the newly elected NPP flagbearer.

The NDC Jirap MP in a GHOne News card is quoted as saying, “About 85,000 people don’t believe Dr Bawumia should lead NPP, that should be his concern”.

His comments follow Dr Bawumia’s NPP primaries number dropping in 2023. Dr Bawumia won the Presidential Primaries with 118,210 votes, representing  61.47% of the total valid votes cast. His closest rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (Assin Central Member of Parliament), polled 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (former Minister for Agriculture) polled 1,459 votes, representing 0.76%, and Honourable Francis Addai-Nimoh (former Member of Parliament of Mampong) polled 781 votes, representing 0.41%.

In 2026, the former Vice President, despite securing a commanding victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday Janurary 31, 2026, had his overall percentage drop from 118,210 votes, representing   61.47%, to 110,645, representing 56.48 per cent.

Dr Bawumia polled 110,645, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast, which was confirmed by Electoral Commission officials at the party’s headquarters.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said he is happier about his performance in the party’s 2026 presidential primaries than in 2023.

Speaking to some NPP members after his victory, Dr Bawumia explained, “The whole country spoke, frankly, I am happier about these results than I was in 2023.

Dr Bawumia further highlighted that in the 2024 elections, there was a clear difference between the NDC votes and the NPP votes, saying, “The NDC vote they didn’t get much more than they did in 2020, it is basically the same, the NPP votes basically collapsed 2.1 million less because our own people decided not to come out to vote so it an internal problem”.

“False and misleading” – Ministry of Foreign Affairs refute extortion claims by family of student who died in Latvia

0

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted extortion allegations levelled against them by a sister of late Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student who died under unusual circumstances while studying at Riga Technical University in Latvia.

In a viral video, the relative revealed that Nana Agyei’s mother was called to Kotoka International Airport to join the delegation travelling to Latvia to seek justice for him.

However, in a statement issued on February 2, 2026, the Ministry said the allegation made in the  circulating video are“false, misleading, and unfounded.”

The Ministry clarified, “… The Ministry wishes to categorically reject and correct the false, misleading and unfounded assertions contained in the said video, in which a woman purporting to be a sister of the deceased alleges, among other things, that the deceased’s mother was required to make payments to facilitate her travel, that government officials travelled to Latvia without any family member, and that a fake airline ticket was issued to the deceased’s mother”.

“The Ministry states emphatically that it has remained in constant and transparent engagement with the family of the deceased to facilitate the travel of two duly nominated family members and a pathologist to Latvia.

“At no time has the Ministry, or any government official acting on its behalf, demanded or received any form of payment from the family. For the avoidance of doubt, the Government of Ghana is fully bearing the cost of all travel arrangements,” it stated.

The Ministry further explained, “In furtherance of this commitment, the Ministry actively facilitated the visa application process for the nominated family members, who were initially scheduled to travel by 31st January 2026. This travel did not materialise due to delays in visa issuance by the relevant authorities. It must be clearly stated that, at the time of their visa appointments, the family members failed to present all the requisite documentation.”

“Upon receipt of the outstanding documents, the Ministry promptly facilitated their submission to the concerned Embassy. The Ministry formally notified the mother of the deceased on Friday evening and again on Saturday that travel could not proceed as scheduled, as the visas had not yet been issued and the passports remained in the custody of the Embassy,” it explained.

On allegations of a fake airline ticket, the Ministry added“… She was expressly informed by the Ministry’s official in contact with her that the document in her possession was not a confirmed airline ticket, but merely an itinerary generated exclusively to support the visa application process, and that travel was not possible in the absence of her passport,” the statement added.

“Now that Bawumia has won, what is he coming to do?” – Elderly man quizzes

0

An elderly man has quizzed what the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is coming back to do after emerging victorious in the party’s primaries.

Also, a market woman has confidently stated that the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will secure only 28 per cent of votes in the 2028 elections.

The market woman asserted that she is an NDC woman but supports Bawumia being the NPP flagbearer for the NDC to hand another miserable defeat.

She detailed that in the 2024 elections the Bawumia secured 38 per cent and was not pleased that this time around, they are going to hand him 28 per cent in the 2028 election.

Their comments follow, Dr Bawumia, who has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once again.

The former Vice President secured a commanding victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday Janurary 31, 2026.

Dr Bawumia is now set to lead the NPP in the 2028 election as they seek to regain power from the NDC.

My mum was given a fake ticket – Sister of student murdered in Latvia exposes Foreign Affairs Ministry

A relative of Nana Agyei Ahyia, an 18-year-old  Ghanaian student who died under unusual circumstances while studying at Riga Technical University in Latvia, has made some shocking claims against the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The relative revealed that Nana Agyei’s mother was called to Kotoka International Airport to join the delegation travelling to Latvia to seek justice for him.

Speaking in the viral video, Nana Agyei’s visibly distraught relative narrated, “I am speaking as a sister to the deceased. I’m talking about Nana Yaw Agyei… Nana Agyei’s mother was called yesterday to come to Kotoka International Airport with the delegates so they could travel to Latvia.

“On arrival, the officers told Nana Agyei’s mother that the plane ticket was fake. She was not able to go to Latvia,” she alleged.

“In our presence, we saw nearly 18 delegates, government appointees who are not even Nana Agyei’s family members, traveling to Latvia. But how can justice be served if the family of the boy is not present? Authorities of Latvia, please note, Nana Agyei’s family is not part of the delegation,” she said.

“They gave the mother a fake ticket. Even during the visa process, they asked Nana Agyei’s mother to pay more than GH¢2,000. If they claim to be delivering justice for someone, why is the family asked to pay for it?” she queried.

She added, “Because of the money they took from Nana Agyei’s mother, they ended up giving her a fake ticket. A woman who has lost her first child had to stand at Kotoka International Airport in pain again.”

“They are keeping Nana Agyei’s mother’s passport when their appointees are already in Latvia. I don’t understand. If they claim to be seeking justice for Nana Agyei, his family must be present to explain what happened and ensure the process is transparent,” she said, visibly aggrieved.

“We, the family members who were brought to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, had our names cancelled. They replaced us with government appointees who are total strangers,” she said.
