In related defilement news, a four-year-old girl has been allegedly defiled eight times by a 14-year-old boy identified as a Junior High School pupil in Suhum in the Eastern Region.
Reports suggest the four-year-old girl is suffering from serious reproductive health complications after she was allegedly defiled 8 times by a 14-year-old.
According to the family of the four-year-old girl, the defilement began when the child was only three-and-a-half years old, with the alleged abuse happening in several parts of their compound house.
The news shared by GHOne TV stated, “A four-year-old girl is battling serious reproductive health complications after she was allegedly defiled eight times by a 14-year-old JHS pupil in Suhum, Eastern Region.
According to the victim’s family, the abuse began when the child was about three-and-a-half years old. However, the child’s complaints were reportedly not taken seriously until they became frequent, especially whenever her mother attempted to wash her…”
Further update by Starr FM detailed that “upon further questioning, the child mentioned the name of the suspect, a 14-year-old boy identified as Addo, who resides in the same compound house. When confronted, the suspect allegedly admitted to sexually abusing the child eight times”.
According to the report, the matter was subsequently reported to the police, who issued medical forms for examination.
A medical report from the Suhum Government Hospital, endorsed by Dr Nancy De-Graft Menz, read, “On pelvic examination, there were minor abrasions on the outer labia. The hymen was not intact, with the presence of foul-smelling whitish discharge on the vulva.
The perineum looked normal. There was also mild tenderness on the vulva. All other systemic examinations were normal.”
Following the medical findings, the 14-year-old boy suspect identified as Addo was arrested and interrogated, where he allegedly admitted to the offence.
A Chinese contractor from the CIWE Engineering Ltd, Ghana, working on the rehabilitation of the Wenchi–Sawla road, has begged Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, not to terminate their contract.
The Road Minister, who paid a working visit to the site of the rehabilitation works, was not pleased with the work done so far and cast doubt on the contractor’s ability to complete the rehabilitation within the stipulated 24-month period.
Speaking in the viral video, the Road Minister stated, “We think we should reduce your work and get somebody else to do the work.
“Honourable, I beg,” the contractor stated.
However, Kwame Governs Agbodza responded, “You don’t have to beg, I want the work done. I don’t have confidence that what I have seen so far, you can finish in 24 months”.
In related news, the Minister for Roads and Highways has also issued a two-month ultimatum to the contractor of the Wenchi–Sawla road, Maripoma Enterprise Limited.
According to the Roads Minister, Maripoma Enterprise Limited must deliver at least 20% progress on the Wenchi–Sawla Lot 7 road project or face contract termination.
Kwame Governs Agbodza made this known after inspecting the project and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance.
The Roads Minister stated, “It’s either you do the 20%, or we terminate. You are not the first person we are telling,” Mr Agbodza said during the inspection.
“We went to the Western North. You didn’t even turn up on the site. You did not even turn up on the site when you took mobilisation on that one as well. In fact, you didn’t even have a site camp,” he said.
“You are a big company, but your bigness is not showing in the actual delivery of your projects,” he said. “We need to say this in the afternoon for everybody to hear. You must change the way you operate your things. At the moment, it’s not helpful to you and to the country.”
He further added, “You are sitting on the job. Well, we have said what we have to say. You have two months to do 20 per cent, or we are not even coming to talk to you. We’ll terminate, and you can go to court”.
“Go and see the condition in which the people are in that section of the road. Why? It’s not right,” he said.
“We should be celebrating policy like the Big Push. It was built around the Ghanaian contractor, and it was deliberate,” he added.
The Road Minister further lamented that the delays are exposing the government to public criticism on social media, saying, “Why should the President suffer abuse on this corridor because he’s giving you work, and you are not doing the work?” he said. “Do you see what they are saying on social media? TikTok? What wrong have we done?”
Also, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and his Deputy, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, have summoned contractors working on the Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi road project over the slow pace.
The Road Minister revealed that the contractor, VOLTA IMPEX, received approximately GH¢66 million as mobilisation funds but has failed to deliver work to the expected standard.
Governs Agbodza in the video stated, “The clearing that we all witnessed doesn’t look like work done in January or February. It looks like it was carried out only about three or four days ago”.
“Where is the project manager? When did you do this clearing?” he asked.
“This cannot be clearing done in April. You first said April, and now you say part was done earlier and another part today,” he stated.
“On our way here, we were shocked to be told that we are actually coming to hand over the site to the contractor. It clearly indicates that no real work has been happening,” he said.
“We have information that about GH¢66 million has been paid as mobilisation for this project. It is unacceptable for us to see this level of work at this stage,” he added.
“This is totally unacceptable. The contractor’s Chief Director must appear before the Ministry on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. to explain what is happening,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that banks would give mortgages for the workers to buy houses and pay over 15 to 20 years.
According to John Mahama, Organised Labour, Social Security, National Insurance Trust, and Republic Bank of Ghana will establish a GH¢3 billion revolving fund to support companies in constructing houses for the project.
He disclosed that the scheme, in partnership with organised labour and financial institutions to ensure that nurses, teachers, doctors, and other civil servants can access decent housing under good conditions.
President Mahama made this known on Saturday, May 9, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the over 1,000-unit Green City Housing Project at Dedesua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.
“Companies like State Housing Company (SHC), Tema Development Corporation (TDC), and all the housing companies will be given credit from this fund to build houses. And then the banks will give mortgages for the workers to buy the houses and pay over a 15 to 20-year period,” he said.
Mahama disclosed that the scheme will make home ownership more accessible and sustainable for public sector workers.
Meanwhile, Amos Owusu, the Atwima District Chairperson of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has lamented the poor welfare of teachers in Ghana.
According to the GNAT Chairperson, one cannot be a teacher in Ghana and live a good life.
He expressed deep concern about the welfare of teachers, stating that a teacher can’t build a house these days in Ghana.
The GNAT Chairperson speaking, lamented saying, “It is not possible for a teacher to build a house these days. There is no prosperity in teaching. You cannot teach and live a good life”.
“Even among our leaders in Ghana, how many would allow their children to attend Colleges of Education to become teachers?” he asked.
“Even the students we teach do not aspire to become teachers because of how poorly teachers are treated in this country,” he noted.
He added, “Teaching has become a stepping stone. Many people enter the profession and later switch careers or travel abroad in search of better conditions. You cannot remain in Ghana and teach to live even an average life”.
The GNAT Chairperson further detailed allowances and benefits owed to teachers.
“Car maintenance allowance has not been paid since 2021, and even when it is paid, it is less than GH¢600. What is painful is that we are given assurances, but they are never fulfilled,” he lamented.
The GNAT Chairperson added, “In other professions, like banking, workers are supported to acquire vehicles because of better conditions of service, but teachers are left behind”.
“Our conditions of service state that the government should cater for the healthcare of teachers, their spouses, and up to four children, but no government has implemented this,” he said.
“There is a death service condition where the government is supposed to provide a coffin, an ambulance, and even support funeral arrangements when a teacher dies. This has never been implemented,” he stated.
“A teacher who has worked for over 35 years does not retire with even GH¢50,000, and even at the highest rank, one may not receive up to GH¢100,000. If you depend on a pension to complete a building project, you may never finish it,” he explained.
“We plead with the current government to help us. Stakeholders must also support our call so that we can secure better conditions of service. Teachers are suffering,” he appealed.

Appearing on TV3 Key Point on May 9, 2026, the GoldBod CEO drew a clear line on central bank conduct.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, if current BoG Governor Johnson Asiama engages in excessive money printing like his predecessor, Dr Ernest Addison, he will organise and lead a protest against him.
Sammy Gyamfi is quoted by a TV3 news card to have said, “If Governor Johson Asiama goes on a money-printing spree like Dr Ernest Addison did and plunges the Bank of Ghana into losses, I will lead a demonstration against him”.
Also, Sammy Gyamfi has accused Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, of engaging in ‘Voodoo Mathematics’.
Sammy Gyamfi argued that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been misleading the public over the reported financial losses of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) with his Voodoo Mathematics.
Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on May 9, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi said, “ What he is doing is what is termed ‘Voodoo Mathematics’; it is a sacrilege in accounting to add profit or loss from other comprehensive income statements to profit or loss in the real PML statement. It is not done anywhere.
Sammy Gyamfi also quizzed whether Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is an auditor or a chartered accountant.
Adding that, what credibility does he have to question the credibility of KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, he has to keep quiet.
Sammy Gyamfi insisted that discussions about the central bank’s financial position must be based strictly on audited facts, he added, “Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but no one has a right to their own set of facts”.
“It is important for us to respect the facts. It is not about what you think or non-existent realities. We are talking about an external institution within the framework of the BoG, and an independent external institution that the BoG doesn’t control, KPMG.
“KPMG conducts an external audit on the finances of the BoG and publishes the results. This is not a document prepared by the BoG; it is prepared by KPMG,” he explained.
“If KPMG tells you on page 15 the profit and loss position of the BoG, that is what you use to examine the health of every corporate body. KPMG says BoG made an operating loss of GH¢15 billion, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says GH¢34 billion”.
He added, “Is he an auditor? Is he a chartered accountant? What credibility does he have? Does it mean he has more credibility than KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, you have to keep quiet”.
“This is voodoo mathematics he is doing. If KPMG tells you the Bank of Ghana made a loss of GH¢15.6 billion in 2025, the matter ends there unless you can use facts to impugn their integrity,” he added.
His comments follow, the Minority in Parliament who has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.
According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, alleged that the central bank employed “artificial recognition” and “clever accounting” to move portions of the deficit into “other comprehensive income”.
He detailed that the move effectively downplayed the scale of the operating loss.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah argued that the BoG’s “true operating loss” is closer to GH¢34.9 billion, adding that once gold sale proceeds are factored in, the total comprehensive loss nears GH¢44 billion.

In other news, the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has told the John Mahama-led government to shut down colleges of Education if the government cannot be employed.
According to the TTAG, the 7,000 number of teachers being employed by the Mahama government is woefully inadequate.
The TTAG also demanded that the government fulfil its promise to automatically post trained teachers.
He highlighted that more than 45,000 trained teachers remain without postings, with over 65,000 students currently enrolled in Colleges of Education.
Speaking at a press conference at the association’s national secretariat on Wednesday, April 22, TTAG President Nanija Devine stated, “The 7,000 number is too small for our workforce, and for that matter, it should be increased to absorb all the qualified, trained teachers in the system. We are also making it a firm demand that the government must honour the automatic posting of trained teachers,” he said.
“Those currently in the Colleges of Education are over 65,000. If the 45,000 already in the system do not know when they will be posted, then what about those still in training? What is the essence of their education?” he questioned.
“If indeed the government cannot recruit the 45,000 trained teachers in the system, then the Colleges of Education should consider closing down.”
A sorrowful scene from the burial ceremony of Abigail Opoku, the pregnant woman who died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital as a result of reported neglect by medical staff.
In one of the viral videos, showed the heartbreaking moment, the father of Abigail Opoku, the young pregnant woman who tragically died during childbirth at Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, broke down in uncontrollable tears.
The father dressed in white broke down in uncontrollable emotion while his beloved daughter was laid to rest.
The emotional farewell left family members, friends, and mourners in tears.
It will be recalled that Abigail Opoku reportedly died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Reports suggest the pregnant woman was allegedly denied an emergency caesarean section because there was no available recovery ward bed.
According to reports, her family stressed she had been referred from a private hospital for urgent treatment but remained in the delivery ward for about 36 hours without surgery, and they believe the delay led to her death.
Following the development, the Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has set up a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
In a statement signed by the Central Regional Director of Health Service, Dr Mrs. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, on April 29, 2026, highlighted that it is being treated with “utmost seriousness,”
He disclosed that a dedicated committee has been formed to conduct a full investigation.
Parts of the statement read, “The Central Regional Health Directorate wishes to inform the general public that it has become aware of the unfortunate maternal death that occurred at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic loss”.
The Central Regional Director of Health Service disclosed that the committee has been tasked to carry out a “thorough, objective, and transparent” review of the incident and submit its findings and recommendations for public disclosure.
The committee comprised members from the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, the Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Office of the Attorney-General.
The Central Regional Director of Health Service also called for calm, urging the public to allow the committee to complete its work without interference and also reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare.
Meanwhile, the father of 27-year-old Abigail Opoku, the pregnant woman who passed away after allegedly being denied a caesarean section at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, has called for the dismissal of the doctors and nurses who were on duty at the hospital.
Speaking after the incident, in a viral video, the father of late Abigail Opoku stated, “The doctors and nurses who were on duty at the time of the incident at the Mother and Child Hospital must be dismissed. The government must pay attention to that hospital because they have caused me great harm with what it did to my child. All my hope is lost”.
“It was after my daughter had died that someone had the courage to inform me of it. They told me they were calling the mortuary workers to come and carry her body away. I was shaking and couldn’t control myself when they carried my daughter away to the mortuary,” he added.
“The mortuary attendant said the unborn baby had to be removed from my daughter, and the process, together with the embalmment, would amount to GH₵1200,” he stated.
Also, Abigail Opoku’s sister has also explained, saying, “Before she was referred, we were told to allow for a cesarean surgery to save both the baby and the mother. But when we told the nurses at Mother and Child Hospital, they said the recovery ward was fully occupied, so they couldn’t perform the surgery”.
“They told us she will deliver. We arrived between 2 and 3 am, but they gave her no medication. She was lying in pain, and even when she personally requested the CS, they didn’t mind her,” she added.

Be it borhey, apatampa, kete, borborbor, the fire dance, kundum, fancy🤔, but it will”.
Another X user added, “Sammy Gyamfi threatening to protest his own government’s appointee is the kind of accountability Ghana actually needs. Whether he follows through is the real question”.
One X user added, “Fallacy, they said worse things about galamsey and what we’re seeing. All these are propaganda. NDC named all their communication units as propaganda secretariats. They only changed it when Ghanaians started bashing them”.
“Was Asiamah not part of the money printing? Is anyone in court for printing money? You and your foolish NDC party now seem to agree with every decision the BOG takes in the interest of Ghana, but under a different regime, they were criminals. You are a jail candidate”, a netizen noted.

“We regret to tell the people of Ghana that this is not true. The true operating loss of the Bank of Ghana for the year 2025 is GH¢34.9”, he remarked.
He stated, “The government says the loss is GHC15.6 billion. The true operating loss of the Bank is actually GHC34.9 billion cedis.

Shatta Wale further stated that it was time for him and the Shatta Movement to demonstrate to certain individuals what discipline is.

Selma Yoda, a student Leader and Activist, has made a shocking revelation regarding hostel fees in Ghana’s universities.
According to the Student leader, the outrageous hostel fees force some students to sleep in churches.
Selma Yoda is quoted by a Metro TV news card saying, “Outrageous hostel fees force some students to sleep in churches”.
In related news, the Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Commission, Frederick Opoku, has defended the ongoing clampdown on unlawful hostel fee increases.
According to the Rent Control Boss, the move is to ensure fairness and protect students and parents, not discouraging private investment.
He disclosed that the move forms part of plans to address the rising cost of student accommodation and ease the financial burden on students and their parents.
The Rent Control Boss stressed that the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not by using any Rambo-style or gorilla means.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Acting Rent Commissioner Fredrick Opoku stated, “Students across the country are suffering, parents across the country are suffering, and the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not using any Rambo-style or gorilla means. We are trying to do it systematically and through true engagement”.
“We shouldn’t see this as attacking anybody’s business. This is about building a better Ghana for all of us. Landlords, property owners, tenants and students will all benefit if this is done well,” he said.
Also, Frederick Opoku has criticised SSNIT for the excessive fees they are charging for the Pentagon Hostel on the University of Ghana campus.
According to the Rent Commissioner, SSNIT must bow its head in shame for exploiting parents who pension they manage.
Frederick Opoku quizzed SSNIT on whether they want students to engage in prostitution before they can afford their hostel fees.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Frederick Opoku fumed, “If you go to Pent hostel, called Ghana Hostels Limited, that is the name, Pent for SSNIT. You SSNIT that you are managing people’s pension rights, and the same parent you manage their pension, you are exploiting them. What kind of behaviour is that?
SSNIT should bow its head in shame; you can never use people’s money and manage and still exploit them. I went there, I didn’t bring the sheet, and I don’t want to be liable for any legal issues. I just want to speak to the issues”.
He added, “You go to Pent, they say there are new Pent and old Pent. Look at this terminology and semantics. This one is a new block, and the old block has 4 students in one room; they will take you like GHS6000 for the old one.
The new one is GHS8000 per semester, in fact, one room with air conditioning, they are talking about GHS20,000 plus or GHS30,000. What is the meaning of this? Do you want them to do prostitution to come and pay?”
Students of the University of Ghana have been constantly demanding urgent action against what they describe as outrageous and exploitative hostel fees.
Last year, SRC General Secretary, Sandra Owie, in a strongly-worded statement on Facebook, called out hostel operators, saying, “It is with deep concern and justified anger that I address the unbearable hostel fees being charged at Vikings and similar private hostels around the University of Ghana. The situation has reached an unacceptable level, and it is high time we called things by their proper name: exploitation”.
“How can we, in good conscience, accept over ₵10,000 for a shared room of four and as high as ₵38,000 for a single room?” she quizzed.
“Enough is enough. We refuse to be exploited, and we will resist any attempt by hostel operators to profit off the desperation of students,” she declared.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced that business mogul and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to fully sponsor any business startup chosen by Ghanaian xenophobia victim Emmanuel Asamoah.
In a post shared on his X on May 9, 2026, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote, “Yesterday, I joyfully hosted Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, Ghana’s victim of xenophobia, who we relocated from South Africa.
We had a great time together at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
I am pleased to disclose that business mogul, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, has reached out to me and offered to fully sponsor any business startup of Mr Asamoah’s choice here in Ghana”.
Earlier, Emmanuel Asamoah was received back home after he was evacuated by the Government of Ghana.
In a post shared by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, wrote, “We are delighted to welcome back home from South Africa our dear compatriot, Mr Emmanuel Akowuah Asamoah.
I commend our High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Benjamin Quarshie, for accompanying our brother all the way.
As we have already announced, Ghanaians who wish to be relocated back home should contact our High Commission to be assisted at the Government of Ghana’s expense.
The Mahama Administration values every Ghanaian life anywhere in the world, and we shall never abandon our citizens in distress. Your welfare remains our utmost priority.
I look forward to hosting Mr Asamoah when I return to Ghana later this week.
A warm Akwaaba to our cherished Ghanaian. It is well.
There is no place like home.
For God and Country”.
It will be recalled that the Minister for Foreign Affairs had announced that the Government of Ghana is relocating Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, who came after an unwarranted xenophobic attack.
According to Ablakwa, the Ghanaian man was legally living in South Africa.
The decision follows a viral street confrontation video from South Africa, which shows activist Victoria Africa, commonly known as Queen Vee and a group of locals questioning a Ghanaian man and other African migrants about their travel documents.
According to Victoria Africa, South Africans are tired of other African countries migrating to their country and refusing to fix their own countries.
Victoria Africa in the viral video stated, “We are fixing this continent. This thing of you guys moving from one country to another is no longer working. We don’t want this as African people anymore. We are tired of seeing African migrants moving all over the world, refusing to fix their own countries. Now we are making it very clear to you guys, we don’t want you here. We want you to fix your countries.
“You came here with a travelling document. We came with a passport. You know that you are a visitor, but you decided to come and integrate into our communities. You know very well that what you have done is wrong. We can come to Ghana and do what you do now.”
The Ghanaian man was then asked to show his passport. After he showed them the document, which was a “certified copy” of his passport, they accused him of buying it from a corrupt South African official.
Another man asked the Ghanaian man, “Who is the police officer that you are bribing to certify these things for you… Let me tell you, you know, by law, as an immigrant, you’re not allowed to certify your passport… Why do you certify your passport in a foreign land? Let’s just start there. Why do you certify your passport in a foreign land?”.
The man explained that he had a certified copy because he did not want the original one to get lost or destroyed by rain.
The South Africans kept insisting that he was in their country illegally and should leave.
The footage has triggered an intense online debate about xenophobia and migration.

According to Alhaji Masawudu Mustapha, Hamid was so arrogant during his tenure as the National Petroleum Authority boss, adding that the National executives had to report to him.
He disclosed that Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid never answered calls from the party’s national executives.
Speaking on Atinka TV, Alhaji Masawudu stated, “Someone like Mustapha Hamid was so arrogant. We even had to report him; he has been a national officer, youth organiser, became a Zongo Minister and even CEO of NPA.
He should have been the one to respect the party’s national executives. Could you believe nobody in the National office, the ten of us can call Mustapha Hamid for him to answer the call. Our minister did not give us the respect that they were supposed to give us as National officers ”.
He added, “We believe some of them stayed in their positions for too long, so they became convinced they could not be removed. As a result, they chose to do what pleased them instead of what would benefit the party. That is why the General Secretary came out to say that ministers who are tired should resign”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Alhaji Masawudu’s claims stated, “He wasn’t that type of person wai. He was so humble and down to earth. How can you make such a terrible statement about him? Please, we want peace in the party. Let’s stop making these statements about our party people”.
A netizen added, “Not disputing his claims, but at this material moment, it’s clear that this is sheer bitterness aimed at denigrating his contender, @MustaphaHamid Buga. The days for this kind of politics are far gone.
You can do better!!!”.
Another X user added, “When you read the OSP charges on Dr Mustapha, you realise that most of his charges are related to some donations to the NPP party, and so I wonder what this man is talking about
Was it because some of the national executives felt entitled, or they had a personal banter?”.
In related news, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has officially announced his intention to run for the NPP National Vice Chair position.
The former NPA CEO highlighted that the decision follows persistent calls from the rank and file of the party urging him to contest.
According to Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, his ambition is not driven by personal gain.
Dr Abdul-Hamid, in his statement, further traced his long-standing involvement with the NPP to its formative years.
In a press statement to party faithful, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid stated, “In the past few days, there have been persistent calls for me to run for office as a national executive member of our great party. The rank and file have sent out a clarion call to me, to place my experience, institutional memory and strategic insight at the disposal of our collective revival. I have listened
Therefore, I hereby formally announce my decision to vie for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open.
This is not an ambition born of personal gain, but a desire to give back to the party what it has invested in me. Under the tutelage of the late Lawyer J.K B. Spio, I was a founding member of the UCC branch of the NPP in 192. I was present at Victoria Park in Cape Coast when we lit a bonfire to signal the transition from Danquah-Busia Club to New Patriotic Party (NPP) on 18th May 1992. I ran for National Organiser in 2001 and lost. I was the first elected National Youth Organiser of the party. I ran for General Secretary in 2005 and lost. I served as Spokesperson for Candidate Akufo-Addo for 10 years. I served as Deputy National Campaign Manager for the party in the 2020 election. I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show.
I am a scholar in the true sense of the word. I believe I have enough intellectual firepower to give covering fire to whoever will be elected as chairman.
Together, we shall re-strategise, rebuild and reorganise and return this party to its rightful place in leadership. The battle to recover our nation begins from within. Victoria Ascerta”.

A Toyota Voxy driver, captured in a viral video driving recklessly, has been jailed 2 months with hard labour.
The Toyota Voxy driver has been identified as Agyarko Richard, who was captured in a widely circulated video driving a Toyota Voxy recklessly along the Kumasi–Accra highway.
He was convicted by the La Motor Court after pleading guilty to multiple traffic offences.
Agyarko Richard was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour and imposed a fine of 260 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢3,120.00.
SIKAOFFICIAL sharing the news on X wrote, “Ghanaian driver Agyarko Richard, who was captured in a widely circulated video driving a Toyota Voxy recklessly along the Kumasi–Accra highway and endangering other road users, has been convicted by the La Motor Court after pleading guilty to multiple traffic offences.
Upon his own plea, the court sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour and imposed a fine of 260 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢3,120.00.
In default of payment of the fine, he is to serve an additional two weeks’ imprisonment in hard labour”.
Netizens reacting to the news stated, “It’s about time DVLA begins to suspend the license of such drivers for some months or years in addition to punitive sanctions by the court”.
One X user added, “No one should come and plead on his behalf … we need to get scapegoats like this to make the law work so others will refrain from this dangerous act… kudos to the Law of Ghana, we need to fix the country one day at a time…”.
“@GhPoliceService awesome, also I’ve been seeing some vehicles, especially land cruisers, with lights and sirens blaring, driving on the wrong side of the road, facing incoming vehicles when there is especially heavy traffic in their lane. Kindly address that issue and give them a warning”, a netizen added.
Meanwhile, Abraham Amaliba, the Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has insisted that they will push ahead with plans to ban the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial activities.
According to Abraham Amaliba, despite mounting opposition from driver unions and sections of the public, they are not bothered as they plan to proceed with a ban on Toyota Voxy vehicles.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Mr. Amaliba explained, “The mandate is to ensure safety on our roads, reduce crashes, and ensure that we put in programmes that will also ensure that the crashes are reduced.
“So we are not bothered about anybody who thinks that regulations should not be implemented. We are a lawless country. We are so lawless that even if regulations are coming, we seem to be kicking against them.
“I have been sent here to do what is right, and I am going to do it as it is. I am not going to listen to people who are wrongdoers.”
His remarks follow: the Commercial transport operators in Ghana have rejected the decision by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to prohibit the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial purposes.
According to Commercial transport operators in Ghana, the decision is poorly thought out and will damage their livelihoods.
In a statement issued on April 8, 2026, the Commercial Transport Operators stated, “The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana view the National Road Safety Authority’s (NRSA) decision to ban the Toyota Voxy for commercial purposes as a lazy and ill-conceived approach to addressing road safety concerns. We strongly condemn this move and urge the NRSA to reconsider.
Rather than engaging in blanket bans, the NRSA should focus on educating drivers on road safety tips and organising seminars to enhance their skills.
The Toyota Voxy is a popular and reliable vehicle, widely used for commercial transport, and its ban will cause significant hardship for many families”.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as Napo, a former Energy Minister, has broken his silence over an alleged video circulating on social media alleging that he, together with some NPP MPs in the Ashanti Region, met with District Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana, offering them money to deliberately keep the lights off (dumsor) in their respective districts.
According to Napo, the video circulating on social media is “entirely false, malicious, and without any basis in fact”.
Napo, in a video shared on X, categorically stated that he has not met any NPP MPs for a meeting, adding that he has been out of the country for a month now.
He further added that as a Minister of Energy, he never met ECG District directors and does not even know them.
In a post on X, Napo wrote, “Beyond the obvious falsehood, I find this claim deeply troubling because of the dangerous implications it carries for the hardworking engineers and officials of ECG, unfairly exposing them to public anger, intimidation, and possible harm arising from a narrative built on deliberate misinformation.
I have therefore instructed my lawyers to commence the necessary legal processes against the radio and television station involved, as well as the presenter responsible for making these claims, to compel them to substantiate these allegations with credible evidence or face the full consequences of the law.
At a time when Ghanaians are confronted with serious challenges in the power sector, the focus of government and its communicators should be on providing lasting solutions to the crisis and not manufacturing falsehoods, spreading smear narratives, and politicising matters that directly affect the lives of our people.
The Ghanaian people deserve honesty, accountability, and leadership that is committed to solving problems rather than creating distractions”.
Meanwhile, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against TV XYZ and broadcaster Salifu Maase, commonly referred to as Mugabe Maase.
According to court filings, the suit follows the broadcast of an audio recording on the programme “Inside Politics,” which alleged that Dr Opoku Prempeh paid ECG District Engineers to deliberately disrupt power supply in the region.
The former Minister described the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to his reputation, and is seeking a retraction, public apology, perpetual injunction and other reliefs from the court.
The GH¢20 million defamation suit follows a video that recently surfaced online in which the media house, during one of its morning shows, hosted Salifu Maase alongside Hopeson Adorye, who alleged that some key figures within the NPP were behind the recent power crisis.
During the discussion, the video alleged that certain party executives had allegedly paid engineers in the Ashanti Region to sabotage the government by deliberately causing the power outages in the region.
The video further alleged that each engineer was offered GH¢150,000 as part of the plan.
Court documents dated May 8, 2026, detailed the several damages Napo suffered as a result of the allegations.
Parts of the document stated, “suffered damage to his character and reputation by being portrayed to right-thinking members of society as a person who is a saboteur of the national interest.”
It further added “suffered damage to his character and reputation by being portrayed to right-thinking members of society as a person who is unpatriotic,” among other claims.
Napo is seeking a public apology and retraction from the media house and the journalist and also a sum of GH¢20,000,000 in damages.
“An order directed at the Defendants to publish an unqualified retraction and apology to the Plaintiff with the same prominence as the defamatory words received, within seven days after judgment.
“An order for a perpetual injunction restraining the 1st Defendant, his agents, assigns, servants, and any person claiming authority through him from further making and/or publishing any words defamatory of the Plaintiff,” part of the document stated.
“…The sum of Twenty Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢20,000,000) in damages for defamation jointly and severally against the Defendants,” the document added.

Counsel to former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Kow Essuman, has blown an alarm on the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for dodging an RTI request by a citizen seeking a disclosure of non-performing loans written off by commercial banks, totalling GHS 1.39 billion.
According to Kow Essuman, the BoG requested the citizen’s identification, which was duly provided. Then it simply refused to release the information.
He further alleged that the citizen filed an application at the High Court to compel disclosure, which led to the BoG producing a letter, purportedly dated 24 April 2026, refusing the request on grounds that the information is “exempt.” No explanation. No legal basis offered.
In a post shared on X, Kow Essuman wrote, “In January this year, a citizen filed an RTI request with the Bank of Ghana, seeking disclosure of non-performing loans written off by commercial banks, totalling GHS 1.39 billion. On 28 April 2026, the citizen did what the Constitution entitles him to do; he filed an application at the High Court to compel disclosure.
Then something interesting happened.
Today, the Bank of Ghana produced a letter, purportedly dated 24 April 2026, refusing the request on grounds that the information is “exempt.” No explanation. No legal basis offered. Nothing.
I say purportedly dated 24 April because the dispatch stamp tells a different story: the letter was posted on 7 May 2026; nine days after the court application was filed. Draw your own conclusions about the timing.
This is not an isolated incident. I have seen, firsthand, this government and its appointees go to deliberate, calculated lengths to keep the public in the dark. Transparency is not merely neglected by this government; it is actively resisted.
GHS 1.39 billion in written-off loans. Public money. Public interest. And a government that would rather litigate than simply answer the question.
That should tell you everything. Accountability is a strange concept to this government”.
In related news, the Minority in Parliament has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, May 3, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disputed official figures, saying, “The government and its spin doctors, led by the NDC party officials who did that press conference, are trying to convince the people of Ghana that their loss is GH¢15.6 billion.
In fact, if you add back the 9.6 billion cedis proceeds from the Gold sales, the recalculated loss is actually GHC44 billion.”

Some Ghanaians reacting to Kow Essuamn’s claims stated, “You see conspiracy, I see statutory banking protections doing their job. RTI exemptions exist for a reason. Courts will sort it out”.
A netizen added, “The subject write-off must not be recognised in the financial statements. If recorded, immediate disclosure of the beneficial banks and associated assets is required. There is no regulatory or legal basis for withholding this information. I urge you to appeal the denial”.
One X user added, “Ghana for you. Silence until court action, then suddenly a refusal letter conveniently dated earlier but showing up afterwards?
Come on.
That’s exactly the kind of thing that breeds suspicion and makes people feel process may have been bent to protect certain interests”.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as Napo, a former Energy Minister, has filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against TV XYZ and broadcaster Salifu Maase, commonly referred to as Mugabe Maase.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, through his lawyers, has since filed a lawsuit against the media house and Salifu Maase.

An X user added, “A 36-year-old school nurse, gone just like that. Edward Cann was serving his community and lost his life on the road. Rest in peace. Ghana’s roads keep taking people from us too soon”.
A netizen added, “The rate at which accidents are happening this year is scary oo, Ei, is it the roads or they are just being careless”.
One last netizen added, “Oh, hmmm.. I have had this experience several times. Sometimes you just forget to move the stand in, and People have to alert you”.

In other news, A Ghanaian abroad residing in the United States, identified as Patrick Sarpong, has tragically died while clearing snow from his car.
Reports suggest that the tragic incident occurred when Patrick Sarpong was killed by a tractor-trailer while clearing snow from his car.
According to reports, the accident occurred late on February 23, 2026, along the Massachusetts Turnpike near Hopkinton.
The information gathered from authorities reported that Sarpong had finished work and was heading home when he stopped around 11:15 p.m. to clear accumulated snow from his vehicle.
While clearing the snow outside, a passing tractor-trailer is said to have struck him.
However, emergency responders arrived promptly, but Sarpong was pronounced dead at the scene.
Patrick Sarpong’s body has since been taken to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
According to officials from the Massachusetts State Police, Hopkinton was not subject to any travel restrictions at the time of the crash, despite the snowstorm.
The Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Gregory Jones explained that the highway remained open, and drivers were allowed to travel.
Reports suggest that Ing. Frank Asirifi Otchere’s appointment was contained in a circular signed by Board Chairlady Kuukua Maurice Ankrah.
Ing. Samuel Nkansah has also been confirmed as Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Resources.
Also, Ing. Samed Abdul Ibrahim, currently Director of the Project Implementation Unit, has also been appointed Acting Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations.
The new GRIDCo CEO now assumes leadership of the state-owned power transmission company responsible for electricity transmission across Ghana and within the West African power pool.
GRIDCo have also urged staff to extend the “necessary cooperation and support” to the newly appointed executives.
It will be recalled that John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has ordered the Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, to step aside.
Ing. Mark Awuah Baah has been ordered to step aside pending investigations into a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Power Control Centre.
In an announcement made by Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on X on Sunday, April 26, 2026, read, “Minister for Energy and Green Transition has asked the CEO of GRIDCo to step aside pending investigations into fire incident at Akosombo power control centre”.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu further disclosed that there has also been a major shake-up in the leadership of the ECG in the Ashanti Region.
His post added, “Also, there has been a major shake-up in the leadership of the ECG in the Ashanti Region”.
Following the news, netizens on X have alleged a plot to sabotage the Mahama government, resurfacing the NDC supporters’ concern over when they called for the removal of Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, a well-known NPP sympathiser, following President Mahama’s swearing in.
A post by the Ghana Chronicle on X stated, “Right after Mahama was sworn in, NDC supporters were calling for his removal because he is a well-known NPP sympathiser, who has even held party positions at the regional level.
As usual, he was playing politics with our electricity”.
“A die-hard NPP member working as the CEO of GRIDCo under the NDC is something I can’t understand.
The NPP would never keep a die-hard NDC member in such a position”, one more netizen added.
He further disclosed that, “ At 2 pm tomorrow, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Jinapor, will hold a major briefing on recent developments in electricity distribution”.

The World Bank has declared as misprocurement a US$3.8 million contract awarded to Awerco Construction Limited for the supply and installation of additional medical equipment at the Weija Paediatric Clinic.
Following the ongoing brouhaha surrounding the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital project, a letter addressed to Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance, by the World Bank has surfaced online.
The World Bank said its Procurement Post Review (PPR) identified deviations from the Bank’s Procurement Regulations in both the procurement process and the implementation of the reviewed contracts.
The PPR report found that the procurement of items supplied under the contract was non-compliant and that the prices paid were not “reasonable” when compared with existing market rates.
The World Bank letter noted that prices charged for most key items under the contract ranged from three to eleven times higher than market prices.
“The PPR report determined that the procurement of items supplied under this contract was non-compliant with Paragraph 6.10(a) of the World Bank Procurement Regulations, which require the Recipient to ensure that prices are reasonable and consistent with the market rate for items of a similar nature.
“The PPR found that, for most key items under this contract, prices charged reached three to eleven times the market rate,” the letter read.
“…The World Bank hereby declares misprocurement of goods in the amount of $3.8 million based on the value of Contract No. GH-COVID-19-442477-GO-DIR, rendering the contract ineligible for financing out of the proceeds of Credit No. IDA 7125-GH.
“The value of the contract, $3.8 million, will also be cancelled and made unavailable for other uses.”
Meanwhile, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, a former Health Minister, has told the Ministry of Health that there was no misprocurement at Weija Children’s Hospital.
The former Health Minister challenged the Ministry of Health to provide evidence to support claims of alleged procurement irregularities surrounding the Weija Paediatric Hospital project.
Bernard Okoe Boye argued that government officials cannot continue making allegations. without presenting documentary proof.
He further questioned what he described as contradictions in the Ministry’s communication, adding that claims of procurement irregularities appear inconsistent with suggestions that the hospital could still be commissioned within a few weeks.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Thursday, May 7, Dr Okoe Boye questioned, “Someone tells you there’s misprocurement, and at the same time, they are telling you in three weeks they are going to commission. Don’t you see the contradiction?”
His comments follow the Ministry of Health finally breaking its silence following angry residents of Weija-Gbawe who stormed the Children’s Specialist Hospital over the continued closure of the fully furnished facility.
According to the Health Ministry, the closure is due to delays in procurement irregularities, funding disputes, and unresolved contractual issues, despite the facility being physically completed.
They disclosed that the World Bank raised concerns about misprocurement, which included inflated costs of medical equipment.
In a press statement issued on May 5, the Ministry acknowledged the protest, however, attributing the delay to serious procurement breaches.
The statement revealed, “The World Bank raised concerns about misprocurement, which included inflated costs of medical equipment up to about 11 times the actual price”.
“As a result, the World Bank declined to settle all the outstanding payments.”
The Ministry disclosed that while it was “prepared to commission the facility for use,” the contractor refused access:
“The contractor subsequently halted this process, insisting that all outstanding issues be fully resolved before granting access to the hospital.”
“The Ministry wishes to assure the people of Ghana that it is actively engaging all stakeholders to resolve the matter in the best interest of the public.”
“The Ministry acknowledges the critical importance of the hospital… particularly in providing specialised care for children.”
“The Ministry therefore appeals to the people of Weija… to exercise patience while steps are taken to operationalise the hospital.”

Linda Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who completed her vetting in under 10 minutes, setting a record as the fastest nominee to complete her vetting with no questions posed by committee members, has since come under public scrutiny.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, simply remarked that the strong delegation accompanying her was proof of her competence.
Bernard Ahiafor, Committee Chairman, also acknowledged her guests and promptly discharged her.
Following her swearing in as Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo has been noted as very vocal, but has caused communication disasters on several occasions, sparking public outrage.
In this piece, we take a look at some of her public remarks, which caused public outrage.
Officials being transferred to the North as punishment
Just a few days ago, the Greater Accra Regional Minister once again caused a stir with her public remarks after revealing that some officials have been transferred to the North as punishment.
According to Linda Ocloo, officials of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) who are issuing illegal building permits have been transferred to the north, just to serve as a kind of punishment for them.
Speaking during a demolition exercise on May 5, 2026, the Greater Accra Regional Minister stated, “If you issue a permit to an illegal structure, knowing very well that the place is illegal, you will also face the law…some of them have been transferred to the north, just to serve as a kind of punishment for them, so that when they realize that what they did was wrong, they are brought back to Accra or other places.”
Meanwhile, Serwaa Amihere, a lawyer and media personality, has said that the parliament of Ghana did Ghanaians a disservice by not vetting the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo.
The media personality noted that if parliament vetted her, Ghanaians would have seen that Linda Ocloo was not fit for the role.
Speaking on GHOne TV, Serwaa Amihere stated, “Even that apology is bogus, because how do you apologise and say it has come to my attention. You have opened your mouth to say something, you are apologising, you are saying it has come to my attention. Didn’t you know what you said?
Parliament did us a great disservice by not vetting her, because we would have seen all of these things. In a serious country, before people say I am against women in governance, what is wrong is wrong”.
Linda Ocloo, during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, caused yet another stir when addressing claims of inducement.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, stated, “If you think it’s vote buying, you too go and buy the votes”
She later faced criticism following the comments, which were interpreted as her downplaying electoral inducement practices, when she referred to vote-related incentives as ‘T&T’ (transport and travel allowance).
‘Woezor’ vs Ga identity debate
In another instance, the minister drew public attention after questioning the prominence of the Ewe greeting ‘Woezor’ on welcome signage in Accra.
She argued that Ga-Adangme cultural identity should take precedence in the capital region.
Her comment that saying ‘Woezor is for the Voltarians’ was widely criticised as divisive, with many accusing her of promoting ethnic exclusivity in a national capital when Accra is supposed to reflect diversity in unity.
Akwaaba vs Oobakɛ’ airport language debate
In 2025, another widely debated controversy involved her support for calls to replace the iconic ‘Akwaaba’ signage at Kotoka International Airport with the Ga ‘Oobakɛ.’
Linda Ocloo argued that since the airport is located on Ga-Adangme land, local linguistic representation should be strengthened in national symbols within the region.
Her proposal sparked a national conversation on cultural identity and unity, with critics urging her to focus on infrastructure and governance challenges instead of symbolic language debates.
She later issued a statement following the backlash, calling for ‘balanced consultation,’ reaffirming the importance of both national unity and respect for indigenous identity.
She noted that Ghana’s identity rests on unity in diversity and that all ethnic groups, citing her marriage to an Ewe.
Linda Olcoo’s incentive comments about El-Wak Stadium Stampede
It will be recalled that six potential military recruits last year were confirmed dead following the El-Wak Stadium Stampede.
Following the tragic stampede, the minister faced public backlash over her remarks attributing part of the incident to applicants’ ‘bad attitude’ with critics describing her comment as insensitive.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a statement demanding that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) rein in Kevin Taylor over his incessant attacks on former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
In a strongly worded press release issued on May 8, 2026, the NPP described the attacks as a desecration of a national icon.
They further called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rein in Taylor, who they alleged has deep ties to the party.
According to the NPP, the vicious attacks by Kevin Ekow Taylor against His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor are not politics but a desecration.
They added that President Kufuor rescued this nation from economic collapse, strengthening Ghana’s democracy, earning the admiration of Ghana and the world.
The NPP statement, signed by the Director of Communication Richard Ahiagbah, wrote, “STOP THE SACRILEGE: THE NDC MUST REIN IN KEVIN TAYLOR OVER HIS ATTACKS ON PRESIDENT KUFUOR.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the sustained and vicious attacks by Kevin Ekow Taylor against His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of the Republic of Ghana. This is not politics. This is desecration. President Kufuor rescued this nation from economic collapse, strengthened our democracy and earned the admiration of Ghana and the world.
He is not a partisan target; he is the father of this nation. Any society that permits the vilification of such a man without consequence has lost its moral footing. The NDC’s silence is not neutrality.
It is complicity: Kevin Taylor’s deep and well-documented ties to the NDC machinery make it impossible for the NDC to feign innocence. When a known operative verbally assaults a former President and the leadership of the NDC watches in silence, their silence becomes an endorsement, enabling the deviance”.
The NPP in their statement further mad two demands, saying. “The NPP demands the following from the leadership, especially from H.E. President John Dramani Mahama:
1. President Mahama and the NDC must immediately dissociate themselves from the attacks on the person and legacy of President Kufuor
2. Kevin Taylor must issue a full, unqualified, and public apology to President Kufuor. There are lines that decency, culture, and conscience forbid us from crossing, and suck behaviour is one of them. The NDC must decide whether it will stand with our shared cultural values or with the savagery of Kevin Taylor
Ghana is watching and taking note of the indifference of the NDC and the Mahama administration”.
Godfred Dame, a former Attorney General, has refuted claims of influencing the work of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, during his time in office.
According to Godfred Dame, Kissi Agyebeng was my friend and still is, but he never issued any directive to him as Special Prosecutor.
Speaking on Joy News, Godfred Dame stated, “I appointed the Special Prosecutor, nominated him for appointment by the president in accordance with Article 195 of the Constitution. He was my classmate. I knew him very well. I trusted in his academic and professional abilities. He was my friend, and is still my friend”.
“Never once did I issue any direction to the special prosecutor, never at all. Never once did I write a single letter to him in my office,” he stated.
He added, “If you take a careful note, there was no instance in which there was a conflict between the Special Prosecutor and the Attorney General when I was in office”.
“He visited me twice as Attorney General, as a friend, and we discussed matters, social matters, and all”.
Godfred Dame added, “Indeed, he had demonstrated clearly that boldness of spirit to go after members of the NPP administration. But I was not bothered”.
“I even visited him when we came into opposition as a private legal practitioner when I represented Mr Paul Adom-Otchere”.
“There was no interference whatsoever, no attempt to use my office as Attorney General or the former Attorney General to influence him in any way,” he stressed.
“So when people make all kinds of statements, I think they do so without the benefit of history, and also, they do so in the absence of a very careful examination of the facts,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, has revealed he has begun counting his days to leave the office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The Special Prosecutor asserted to persistent threats to the survival of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Speaking on the performance and public perception of the office, Kissi Agyebeng detailed, “They want an independent institution to fight corruption, separate from the Attorney General and more than 50 per cent, and with this, I take pride in it, of the majority of Ghanaians trust the Office of the Special Prosecutor more than any other institution to fight corruption. And with this, my job is done.
‘However, I have started counting down my days to when I depart as Special Prosecutor,” he said.
“When I become the former Special Prosecutor, I want to look back and say, civil society forged this office, and civil society preserved it. It is your handiwork, do not let it die,” Kissi Agyebeng stated.
“You recall what happened in 2025. Incidentally, it was our best year of performance. At the same time, it was our worst year of existential force,” he said.
“Why should Kissi and a few officers of the Office of the Special Prosecutor be the ones always fighting existential battles just to keep this office running? Had it not been the good-naturedness of the president, the office would have been scrapped by the end of December 2025, in violence,” he stated.
Watch the video below:
Kissi Agyebeng was my friend then, and he remains my friend, but at no point did I use my office as Attorney General to influence him in any way.
Reports suggest the six women were arrested by the Central East Regional Police Command, with three children rescued during the intelligence-led operation.
The all-female child trafficking syndicate are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
In a post shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, read, “Six women have been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Command in connection with a suspected child trafficking syndicate, with three children rescued during the intelligence-led operation.
The suspects, all female, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the rescued children are receiving the necessary care and protection.

In other news, the Ghana Police Service has announced that they have arrested three more suspects in connection with the murder of Indian national Devendra Singh.
According to the Police, a breakthrough came on April 25, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., when officers received information that the victim’s vehicle had been found abandoned on the outskirts of Sabin Akrofuom near Royal Lemosey Hospital.
Reports suggest the houseboy who was arrested in connection with the murder confessed during investigations that he provided key information about the victim’s movements to someone who had a dispute with the Indian man.
The news shared by EDHUB on X stated, “A houseboy of Indian national Devendra Singh, whose body was found in the boot of his car in Kumasi after he was murdered by unknown assailants, has reportedly admitted to having a role in his employer’s death.
According to Adum TV, the suspect, initially arrested in connection with the case, confessed during investigations that he provided key information about the victim’s movements and daily routine to individuals who allegedly had a dispute with the deceased.
He further reportedly mentioned the names of those involved in the incident”.
Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, addressing the press on Friday, May 8, disclosed that police intelligence operations conducted on April 29 and 30 led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Osman Moro, also known as Tiago, 20, Hakim Kudjoe Jnr, and Moro Sulley, alias Moro Aboboyaa.
She detailed that the arrest follows the earlier arrest of suspect John Adokpo, also known as Peter.
ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi told the press that Hakim Kudjoe Jnr admitted his involvement in the crime and told investigators that on April 24, confessing that he went to the deceased’s workplace and replaced the CCTV camera server with the assistance of suspect Moro Sulley, leading the police to the location where the CCTV server was retrieved.
The police added that the suspect, Hakim Kudjoe Jr., confessed to taking the deceased’s iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Tecno mobile phone after the murder, handing the iPhone to Osman Moro at Kaase and giving the Tecno phone to Moro Sulley.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi added that Moro Sulley was identified as the individual who assisted in replacing the CCTV server at the deceased’s workplace, with suspect John Adokpo admitting to driving the deceased’s vehicle to the location where it was eventually discovered.
“All the suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest two other persons believed to be connected to the case,” ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi added.
See the post below:
Six women have been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Command in connection with a suspected child trafficking syndicate, with three children rescued during the intelligence-led operation.
In a Facebook post on Friday, May 8, 2026, EOCO published the names and details of the individuals.
The persons have been identified as Rita Ewura Abena Appiah, Mercy Korang, and Esther Osaah Boateng, who are currently being sought by authorities to assist with ongoing investigations.
In other news, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has told the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to immediately release former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the impunity must stop.
The minority leader stressed that after one year of arraignment of the two accused persons with 3 others in court on charges, the defence counsel exposed the weakness and frivolity of the case.
His comments come on the heels of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, who have been arrested.
According to reports, Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, were arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In a statement issued on his Facebook on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Afenyo-Markin wrote, “I have become aware of the unwarranted arrest and incarceration of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) yesterday, 5th May, 2026.
The needless and face-saving arrest followed one year of arraignment of the two accused persons with 3 others in court on charges whose weakness and frivolity were exposed by defence counsel through objections raised and upheld by the court at the Case Management Conference held in the course of the trial.
The Attorney-General, in response to the objections raised and in a bid to boost the weak prosecution he had initiated, attempted to introduce fresh witness statements without leave of the court, contrary to the rules governing the conduct of criminal proceedings in the Republic. When an objection was raised again by defence counsel led by Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame and same was upheld by the court, the Attorney-General’s next move was to withdraw all the charges against the accused persons.
One would have thought that EOCO would step back, conduct more thorough investigations and understand the matter before deciding whether to charge the accused persons again or not.
However, in an impulsive and knee-jerk reaction, EOCO re-arrested Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife for offences unknown to even his legal team and whisked them off to the EOCO office. Strangely, they have been refused bail and have been kept in custody since yesterday, even though they were on bail granted by the court just before the charges were withdrawn
Hanan’s lawyers, who were at the offices of EOCO from about 11 am until 8 pm last night, were denied access to him.
I find the conduct of EOCO, the Attorney-General and the Government as a whole, in harassing and torturing these innocent citizens of the land in the manner described above, very shameful, reprehensible and most unworthy of a healthy democracy that Ghana has struggled to build the past 33 years.
The law enforcement processes should be deployed to deal with actual wrongdoing in accordance with due process and not utilised as a propagandist machinery for the Government by arresting and detaining leading members of the opposition as a way of purporting to give meaning to the Government’s failed ORAL promise.
I take note that the Attorney-General held a massive press conference last year, cited the Buffer Stock case as a major example of the ORAL drive, and vilified these same accused persons as having stolen money from the State when he had not even filed any charges against them.
EOCO’s move in rearresting the accused persons after charges had been withdrawn (after a whole year of subjecting the accused persons to unnecessary assassination of their character) is clearly a desperate attempt to save the face of the Attorney-General and sustain a false impression of a continuation of the Government’s failed ORAL promise.
The EOCO boss, Raymond Archer, must learn to operate in accordance with due process like his predecessors used to do. That important institution of State must not be turned into a rogue outfit for harassing and torturing innocent citizens extra judicially when the Government becomes frustrated by a failure to prove offences levelled against them in a court of law, as we have seen in the Buffer Stock.
I call on EOCO and the Attorney-General to release Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni immediately.
Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) miserable defeat in the 2024 general elections, the party has begun taking bold steps aimed at rebuilding and positioning itself for a comeback in the 2028 polls.
One of the most noteworthy decisions has been the early endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
The move generated criticism from some political observers and party supporters, especially due to the fact that the NPP chose to settle its presidential race before electing national executives.
Many critics argued that the party should have reorganised its leadership structure first before selecting a flagbearer.
However, despite the backlash, the NPP maintains that the decision is part of a broader strategy to unite the party early and give its candidate enough time to lead preparations ahead of the next general election.
In this piece, we take a look at some of the NPP bigwigs who have officially declared their intentions to contest positions in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared his intention to contest for the NPP National Chairman position.
According to Wontumi, having consulted his Maker and sought the counsel of party elders, he has declared his intention to serve as National Chairman of the NPP.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 4, the Ashanti Regional Chairman stated, “Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment he NPP demands leadership that is steady, principled, and committed to unity.
A leader who is grassroots personified, who values every member from our elders to the youthfu allies, and who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifices for the party
Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), having consulted my Maker and sought the counsel of party elders, hereby declare my intention to serve as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. I do so not for personal ambition, but to strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great part.
The road ahead will demand vision, courage, and unwavering determination. Leadership at this moment requires bravery—the courage to stand firm, make difficult decisions, and be willing to lose everything if necessary for the NPP.
We are ready. We are organised. We are built for the battle ahead.
Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028. This is our moment to rise, to lead, and to deliver for the NPP”.
Also, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has endorsed Chairman Wontumi as the next party National Chairman.
In a viral video, Chairman Wontumi was arriving at a Bawumia’s residence where he exchanged greetings with some members of the NPP around.
Wontumi later walked inside Dr Bawumia’s residence, saying, “Your excellency, the president”.
Dr Bawumia stated, “INCOMING, how are you?”.
Wontumi responded, “Very well, my boss”.

Boakye Agyarko describe his decision to contest as a call to duty.
According to him, he had extensive consultations with family, close associates, and NPP faithful.
His statement read, “I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make,” he stated.
“I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me.”
“Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of NATIONAL CHAIRMAN of my party upon the opening of nominations.”
Paul Afoko
Paul Afoko
Paul Afoko, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has returned to the party, declaring his intention to contest for the party’s National Chairmanship position.
It will be recalled that Paul Afoko was suspended in 2015 as the NPP’s National Chairman following a decision by the party’s National Executive Committee.
In a statement, Paul Afoko wrote, “After extensive reflection and encouragement from many well-meaning members, supporters, and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I am honoured to formally announce my intention to contest for the position of National Chairman in the upcoming election of national officers”.
He explained, “This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to the consistent calls for renewed leadership rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of our Party”.
Paul Afoko reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP despite past challenges.
“While the journey has not been without its trials, I have always chosen to prioritise the unity and progress of the NPP above all else. My focus now, as it has always been, is on the future — one where our Party stands re-energised, inclusive, and better positioned to deliver on its promise to the Ghanaian people.”
“In the coming weeks, I will engage more broadly with Party faithful and the media to share my vision, ideas, and plans to lead the NPP with integrity, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose. Let us look ahead together.”
John Boadu
John Boadu
John Boadu, a Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has also. officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman.
In a statement on Saturday, November 8, John Boadu said the NPP is at a “critical crossroads” following its defeat in the last general elections, arguing that the party needs “experienced, tested, and unifying leadership” to rebuild and return to power in 2028.
John Boadu detailed that the NPP has lost touch with key stakeholder groups, including the youth, business community, the middle class, the clergy, and academia.
“Our party has drifted away from vital groups that once proudly carried the NPP flag. We cannot afford to remain in opposition for long. There is hope for restoration, but that hope rests in leadership with proven experience and the capacity to deliver results.”
“The NPP needs to be rescued,” he said.
“Power is won when the party is strong and guided by tried and tested leadership. This is not a time for experiments.”
“At this decisive moment, we cannot afford to gamble with leadership,” he said.
“The NPP needs stability, tolerance, and a results-oriented vision that will unite all factions and restore our great party to power.”
David Kankam Boadu
David Kankam Boadu
David Kankam Boadu, former spokesperson for the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has also declared his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline programme, described himself as the “Alpha and Omega” of the party’s founding fathers.
He claimed that he is the only aspirant with an unblemished record, adding that he possesses integrity and no dirty little secrets that could derail his campaign.
David Kankam Boadu stated, “My name cannot be excluded from the founding fathers”.
“I witnessed the foundation of the NPP. I was part of the courageous men and women who voluntarily served the party. When the NPP came to Ghana, we had no members. We were assaulted and brutalised by the NDC.
“We invested our efforts and sacrificed for the NPP, without expecting any monetary reward. Our vision was to see the NPP gain prominence,” he added.
When asked why he decided to run, he responded that the party needs a unifier.
“The party is currently at a point where it is heading for destruction,” he warned. “If we are not careful, the NPP will become like the CPP and lose its relevance. We had over 160 MPs in alignment, but today, the party has fewer than 90. We must rescue the party from destruction.”

We came out bruised, our individual and collective egos battered. We lie not in a good place. However, as our great tradition had demonstrated over the years… we will thrive”.
Her post further added, “Scathed, we refuse to be burnt, and in the unlikely circumstance that we set ourselves in a blazing inferno… we will rise. It will shape us, mould us, and like the Phoenix, we will rise and be ready”.
“This caretaker NDC government is there not just because they are preferred, they are there because they lied their way into government, amidst lofty promises, and caused belief in us to wane. But we will revive it,” she said.

Mustapha Hamid
Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid
Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has officially announced his intention to run for the NPP National Vice Chair position.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled a comprehensive reorganisation roadmap, including timelines and filing fees for aspirants contesting its internal positions in the 2026 elections.

The NPP national executive elections are slated for September 18 to September 20, 2026.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appointed all four of his former rivals in the party’s presidential primaries as co-chairmen of newly established NPP policy committees.
According to reports, the NPP policy committees will work to establish a data-driven policy committee framework within the party.
The NPP Policy Committee will be chaired by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who seeks to generate credible, evidence-based alternative policy recommendations across critical sectors of Ghana’s economy and governance.

Political analysts and governance commentators have described the move as “textbook coalition management executed at exactly the right moment.”
Dr Domfeh stated, “What Bawumia has done is essentially neutralise any lingering post-primary tension by giving each of these men ownership — real, substantive ownership of a critical policy area,” political analyst Dr Domfeh said.
“He hasn’t just offered them titles. He has given them responsibility, and with responsibility comes accountability to the larger party project.”

2. Preliminary investigations indicate that on 3rd May 2026, the victim had gone out to play football with friends when the suspect, identified as Eric Mante, reportedly confronted him.
3. Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the biological father of the victim and has three children with the victim’s mother, allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off with him. In the process, the victim reportedly fell onto the tarred road near Adonai Church and was dragged along the road, sustaining multiple injuries.
4. The victim’s screams attracted the attention of some residents, including some residents, who intervened and stopped the suspect from further dragging the victim.
5. The victim sustained various degrees of injuries and was rushed to the Legon Hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested by the Police.

7. The Accra Regional Police Command condemns all forms of violence against children and urges parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent means of disciplining children. The Command further encourages the public to promptly report cases of abuse to the Police or relevant authorities”.
The Police arrest follows a viral video which surfaced of a 60-year-old man with a disability tying his teenage son to a quad motorbike and dragging him along a tarred road at North Legon in Accra.
Report suggest the teenager reportedly fell onto the tarred road and was dragged for several minutes before some residents intervened and stopped the suspect.
The 16-year-old sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In a viral video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, read, “A middle-aged person with a disability has been apprehended by concerned residents and handed over to police authorities at North Legon after tying his six-year-old stepson to a quad bike and dragging him along the ground.
The disturbing incident, triggered by repeated allegations that the child had been breaking into neighbouring homes to swim in their pools and steal metal items for sale as scrap, has left the boy with severe bodily injuries.
In a video clip taken during preliminary questioning by residents, the suspect admitted to the act, stating that persistent complaints from residents regarding the child’s conduct compelled him to take such action”.
In related news, Frederick Opoku has criticised SSNIT for the excessive fees they are charging for the Pentagon Hostel on the University of Ghana campus.

If he doesn’t see himself as disabled to comport himself but can do what an abled man won’t even think of, then he equally deserves a directly proportional punishment. Don’t let it slide. Teach him well”.
A netizen added, “As for this disabled man, the less said about him the better.
The sad thing is, it was done on the street where the police station is located”.
“This is downright scandalous and inhumane. Tying a 6-year-old to a quad bike and dragging him on the ground… You simply don’t do that. What a cowardly, disgusting stepfather.
Poor little boy. Hopefully, he gets help, and that man is severely punished. Child abuse is never okay”.
“What an idiot!! Wtf is wrong with people? Even with his disability, look at what he did to his own son… Jail straight!!”, a netizen added.
One x user quizzed, “Is this guy okay upstairs? Is that the kind of punishment you give to your child when he’s wrong? Whatever it is, this is sheer wickedness”.
Additionally, a netizen added, “Like how, you are disabled and wicked too, this life is not fair, man. I hope the police don’t pardon him because of his condition. They should give home a difficult punishment”.

John K. Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has defended the current structure of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), following criticism by the Africa Education Watch.
According to WAEC, the proposal to reduce the number of examinable subjects for BECE candidates will limit learning.
He argued that limiting the number of subjects at the basic level would affect how BECE candidates prepare academically.
John K. Kapi highlighted that the current BECE structure exposes candidates to a wider range of subjects, which helps ensure a more balanced education.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, May 7, Mr Kapi argued, “If you look at the level at which we are assessing these children—their maturity level and all of that—if we are limiting them to just a few subjects, I believe that what we’re going to do is simply to be limiting the children to just a few things that they pay more attention to”.
“I’ve heard you asking whether it should not be the case where the children will not pay too much attention to a general paper because they think that it’s really not going to be assessed, you know, it’s not going to be anything big to be assessed,” he added.
WAEC comments follow. Kofi Asare, the Executive Secretary of EduWatch, has called for a reform in the structure of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The EduWatch labelled the current BECE format as a torture on learners just for school placement.
According to Kofi Asare, the current BECE format places undue pressure on students due to the number of subjects the candidates are required to write within a limited period.
He further argued that the current arrangement is outdated and does not reflect modern assessment systems used in other countries.
Kofi Asare proposed reducing the ten subjects to four subjects: Math, English, Science and General Paper.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 7, Kofi Asare wrote, “Piling 10 subjects over a 5-day high-stakes BECE just for school placement is torture on learners.
Reduce to 4 subjects: Math, English, Science & General Paper. Others even use an aptitude test plus continuous assessment. This is 2026, not 1996”.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination began on Monday, May 4, with over 620,000 candidates across Ghana sitting for the exams.

Asiedu Nketia, in his emotional letter, reflected on lessons he learnt from his mother, Hagar Akosua Afrah, also known as Kwaa.
The NDC Chairman revealed that his mother died 12 years ago, on 2ND May 2014.
He further detailed that under his late mum’s guidance, he learnt a few things worth sharing: “To place God at the centre of all things. To persevere with determination. Never give up. To show respect for all, no matter where they come from or who they are. And finally, to do what is right even when no one is watching”.
In a Facebook post shared on May 7, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah wrote, “Ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday, I took time to reflect on precious moments with my late mum, Hagar Akosua Afrah, Kwaa – as we lovingly called her, who passed on 2nd May, 2014 (12 years ago).
Some of life’s most enduring lessons are formed long before we fully grasp their significance.
In Kwaa’s quiet guidance, I learnt a few things worth sharing:
1. To place God at the centre of all things.
2. To persevere with determination. Never give up.
3. To show respect for all, no matter where they come from or who they are.
4. And finally, to do what is right even when no one is watching.
These principles have remained a constant guide throughout my life.
I’m truly grateful for you, Kwaa”.
The NDC Chairman’s message has got Ghanaians on Facebook talking, saying, “I will be your Oti and Volta regions campaign lead for you to succeed JDM and the next president, even if I need to sell everything I possess for the love and respect for you, CHAIRMAN.
Your wisdom, political journey and humor is unmarched in Ghana”.
One more Ghanaian wrote, “Most ‘old girls’ will still prefer their old homes no matter what you give in exchange of that 😀😀😀
But even if they refuse to move into the mansions, God should remind us to regularly ‘paint’ their preferred old homes for them”.
“Awwwnn🥰
I’m also called Akosua Hagar.
I pray for your Mother’s blessings(Long life), and I also pray for your greatest courage for My Son🙏🏾
May her soul rest in perfect peace”, one last Ghanaian added.
The Acting Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku, has called out SSNIT over the astronomical hostel fees being charged by Pentagon Hostels, commonly known as Pent.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the Rent Commissioner remarks stated, “Good evening a free market doesn’t mean you should operate outside established laws. The trotro drivers are equally operating under a free market economy yet their operations are regulated by a body”.
A Facebooker added, “Our problem in this country is that we know too much. So this man is fighting for a good cause, but after reading through some of the messages, you could see comments like, ” We have free market, we have free market. These same people, when the dial is don on them, and they start feeling the heat, their response changes. Let’s support what is good and stop this too-know kind of life”.
“Boi! The comment section is really eye-opening!🤔
A lot of tenants in Accra are genuinely suffering because of the current rent situation. The cost of renting keeps going up, yet many of these rooms, hostels, and apartments are not even up to standard or located in decent communities.
Now that someone is finally speaking up and trying to address the issue, some people are fighting against it simply because they benefit from the broken system or hope to cash in on it themselves someday.
At this point, housing is becoming more of a business for quick money than a basic necessity for people trying to survive. Something truly needs to change”, one more Ghanaian added.
Meanwhile, Students of the University of Ghana have been constantly demanding urgent action against what they describe as outrageous and exploitative hostel fees.
Reports shared on X suggest that three people have died in tragic circumstances linked to a power outage commonly known as ‘dumsor’.
The victims have been identified as a carpenter, Jonas Ofosu Yeboah, a recent SHS graduate, Florence Naa Kwarley (19), and another individual.
According to the information gathered, the tragic incident occurred around Mahean-Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra.
The tragic incident is said to have occurred on the night of May 5, 2026.
Ofosu Yeboah reportedly placed a generator in a locked corridor while the victims slept in his room, leading to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
In a post shared by ASKghmedia detailed, “SAD NEWS —
A carpenter, Jonas Ofosu Yeboah, a recent SHS graduate, Florence Naa Kwarley (19), and another individual have died in tragic circumstances linked to a power outage in Mahean-Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra.
According to reports, on the night of May 5, 2026, Ofosu Yeboah reportedly placed a generator in a locked corridor while the victims slept in his room, leading to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Their bodies were discovered early on Wednesday morning, May 6, already in rigor mortis. The Amasaman Divisional Police Command has confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “This dumsor must stop now, people are even tired of saying it”.
“How can you tell me this story? As them Dey inhale something alien before they even go to sleep, none of them gets the sense to wake up?”, one X user added.
Another netizen wrote, “This thing nearly happened to me, some yrs ago. We had to work overnight with a generator in the corridor, but we were tired and fell asleep in the middle of the night. God being so good, I woke up, and I felt like I was dying, so I woke him up n we stood under a tree for fresh air”.
In other news, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had earlier told Ghanaians calling for a load shedding timetable that it is too early, while apologising for the erratic power outages.
According to the ECG, the recent power disruptions are due to the fire outbreak at the Akosombo GRIDCO substation.
He explained that engineers are working to restore the full electricity supply.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, April 26, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, ECG’s General Manager for External Relations, explained, “After Akosombo, the fact is that it blocked about 1000 megawatts, but I am sure you also understand that even after losing 1000 megawatts, we have still been consistent with power supply within some parts of the country”.
“The question is, the current situation at the Akosombo GRIDCO substation is a work in progress. As I speak to you, there is a resolution; there are some of the issues that have been resolved, some parts of the country are back on full supply pending other lines that will be restored,” he stated.
Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku added, “So if we start talking about a load shedding timetable right now, don’t you think it is too early to call for a load shedding timetable?”
“The engineers have assured us that very soon we are getting back on supply. I would once again urge the general public and our customers to remain calm and be assured that the situation is under control,” he said.
“I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience our cherished customers are facing. The incident wasn’t expected. It was a major incident which has rendered the entire control room affected and down, and we sincerely apologise to our customers,” he said.

A visibly distressed Elderly man has cried out following the demolition of his home at the Sakumono Ramsar site as part of efforts by the government to demolish buildings in waterways to ease flooding in the capital city.
In the video, the elderly man is furious, rained curses on security personnel at the demolition site.
In the viral 41-second video, the old man stated, “Leave me, they should kill me today… I will let them kill me. I want the soldiers to kill me… You bunch of fools, it shall never be well with you”.
The ongoing three-day demolition exercise is being carried out by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Tema West Municipal Assembly is targeting illegal structures within the Golf Course enclave of the Sakumono Ramsar site.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “It’s the ordinary citizen who suffers greatly at the expense of development. When an individual is constructing gutters, the assembly stops them, but they do not see someone erecting a whole building. Crazy system”.
A netizen added, “Reasons, the municipal assembly workers who issue licenses and permits to them should be arrested and jailed, not transferred to other regions. They’re always moving around those places and are taking money and issuing permits to them to build”.
One more X user added, “I blame the sale of these lands on the so-called “bosses” in the offices, who are aware of the truth about these lands, having before them the town and country plans, and knowing perfectly well that those places must not be sold or bought by buyers, but because of greed for money”.
Also, Ing Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has backed the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and her team for the ongoing demolition of structures encroaching.
The road and building consultant commended Linda Ocloo for her work so far, adding that the exercise was a necessary step to avert recurring floods in the capital.
According to him, the reclamation of lagoons, streams, and ponds has significantly increased Ghana’s vulnerability to flooding.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, January 27, Ing. Mahama stated, “Thumbs up to the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the team for what they are doing. I don’t know the persistence with which Ghanaians move to fill lakes, streams and ponds.
It looks like we don’t want them, yet the benefit of rivers and ponds is that, when we have a large volume of water, they accommodate it and release it gradually into the surrounding dry land”.
“But the more we consume these lakes and wetlands, the more we expose ourselves to massive floods that will inundate the country. On this call, I want to applaud the Minister,” he said.

Also, Tony Goodman, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, has revealed that steps have been taken to operationalise the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital within the next two to three weeks.
Speaking in an interview on Star FM, Tony Goodman stated, “Based on the commitment we’ve seen in the last 24 hours, we can assure the people of this country that within two to three weeks, we should be able to commission this facility”.
“The terms of the contract state that payment will be made by a third party, which is the World Bank. When the last certificate was issued, the World Bank refused to pay, citing prices way above the market price,” he explained.
He further cautioned, “This isn’t a banana republic. If you force your way in and the equipment develops a fault tomorrow, you cannot hold the contractor responsible. We must use dialogue to reach an amicable resolution”.
Dr Mark Nawaane, Chair of the Health Committee, has told medical professionals who feel exhausted or disillusioned with the profession to resign rather than compromise the ethics and standards of healthcare delivery.
According to Dr Mark Nawaane, medical professionals struggling with the pressures of their job and can no longer cope can step aside.
He asserted that Ghana’s healthcare system depends on ethical commitment and professionalism.
Speaking to the press on May 7, 2026, Dr Mark Nawaane stated, “If you are a medical professional and you are tired of the work, you probably have to… you can resign. I’m telling you, Ghana will survive. If you are ready to work, there are ethics”.
“Immediately we started and mentioned medical negligence and even started coming up with names, and I said thank God, this is a step forward,” he said.
“Now we are saying that it is beyond just a facility. It is the individuals,” he added.
“If you are ready to work, please, there are ethics. If you can’t do something, you call your colleague doctor, your senior doctor,” he said.
His comments follow the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah, which has sanctioned seven medical staff members over their failure to attend to the late engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited.
The medical staff sanctioned include Anne-Marie Kudowor of the Police Hospital, Naomi Eyram Adotevi and Akosua B. Turkson of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Ida Druant, Genevieve Adjar, Joy Daisy Nelson, and Salamatu Alhassan Aidoo of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who are to face disciplinary action for breaching their professional duties in the care of Charles Amissah and for being untruthful to the Committee.
The committee, chaired by Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, presented its findings on May 6, 2026, detailing that, “Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor failed to exercise ethical and professional judgment prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at Police Hospital, leading to his death, and was untruthful to the committee.
“Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi also failed to exercise ethical and professional judgement prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, leading to his death later,” Professor Akosa remarked.
Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor has been recommended for referral to the Police Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) for disciplinary action over alleged misconduct.
They also referred Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the MDC for disciplinary action.
Also, Dr Ida Druant and Dr Genevieve Adjar of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been recommended for disciplinary action by their institution and the MDC for similar breaches.
Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa’s committee also further recommended sanctions against nursing staff, including Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective institutions and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
The committee, beyond individual accountability, outlined urgent systemic reforms.

In a viral photo shared on X, the young man was seen in handcuffs following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service.
However, the young man, before the arrest, had earlier apologised.
According to the young man, he was only creating content when he made those pronouncements.
Speaking in another viral video, the young man stated, “Ghanaian leaders, I am pleading with you, I posted a video on TikTok, I was only making content, I should not have said those things. I threatened the Police and soldiers. I have seen some people have posted my pictures in a wanted group.
I am not a thief, I am not a bad person, I am a hustler. The things I said, I did not speak properly. Please forgive me, Ghana Police and Soldiers”.
It will be recalled that the young Ghanaian man had earlier threatened personnel of the Ghana Police Service and of the Ghana Armed Forces in a viral video.
Speaking in a viral video, the young man stated, “If you are a police officer or a soldier and you are sent to arrest armed robbers, and you meet me without holding any gun, just know that I will kill you. I swear to God, the powers I’m holding you don’t have some”.
In other news, Solomon Brako Kusi, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, has confirmed the arrest of the three young men wielding machetes in a viral video.

Serwaa Amihere, a lawyer and media personality, has boldly fired shots at the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo labelling her apology as bogus.
Her comments come on the back of the heels of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who once again caused a stir with her public remarks after revealing that some officials have been transferred to the North as punishment.
Meanwhile, Linda Ocloo has issued an apology, following public backlash over comments suggesting that postings to the northern part of Ghana could be perceived as a form of punishment.
According to Linda Ocloo, her remarks in the viral video were just a genuine slip, which does not reflect her considered views.
In a press statement issued by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), the minister stated, “My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I made remarks suggesting that postings to the northern part of our beloved country could be considered as a form of punishment”.
“I wish to state, without reservation, that the comments captured in the video were a genuine slip in communication and do not reflect my considered views.”
“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she said.
“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns that this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Pressure is mounting on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, following Leaders from the five Northern regions demanding her resignation.
The Northern leaders described the minister’s remarks as “a reckless affront to the dignity of an entire people.”
According to them, Northern Ghana is not and will never be a punishment destination.
Bernard Mornah, speaking in a statement issued on May 6, 2026, on behalf of the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions, stated, “Northern Ghana is not – and will never be – a penal destination for administrative discipline,” the statement said. “It is a vital and indispensable part of our republic, rich in history, culture, intellect, and contribution.”
They further argued that Linda Ocloo’s explanation does not address the seriousness of the comment.
In the statement, they also described the Minister’s remarks as an irony, citing President John Dramani Mahama, whom they say has strong ties to northern Ghana.
“For a beneficiary of such leadership to publicly demean the region is not only ironic, but also reflects poor judgment,” the statement added.
They also demanded three key actions: “a formal visit by the minister to engage traditional leaders, her resignation or dismissal, and a renewed government commitment to national unity and equal respect for all regions”.

Serwaa Amihere says the Greater Accra Regional Minister’s Apology be Bogus.
It is true. It is not only bogus, she’s insulting Ghanaians intelligence through that apology.
Serwaa Amihere, a lawyer and media personality, has said that the parliament of Ghana did Ghanaians a disservice by not vetting the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo.
It will be recalled that the then Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate, Linda Akweley Ocloo, completed her vetting in under 10 minutes before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.
Her vetting set a record as the fastest nominee to complete vetting before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, with no questions posed by committee members.
Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, simply remarked that the strong delegation accompanying her was proof of her competence.
Bernard Ahiafor, Committee Chairman, also acknowledged her guests and promptly discharged her.
Her comments come on the back of the heels of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who once again caused a stir with her public remarks after revealing that some officials have been transferred to the North as punishment.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has been urged to consider leaving her role to allow others to bring a more unifying approach to the regional ministerial role.
According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to NPP Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Linda Ocloo must resign over her recent controversial remarks.
Miracles Aboagye highlighted that the Greater Accra Regional Minister is always camera happy, but always makes loose talk all the time.
He argued that public office requires a high level of discipline in communication.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, May 6, Dennis Miracles Aboagye stated, “…But if you choose to go the path on which she is doing, where she’s camera happy, she always wants to be in front of the camera, and she’s always making very loose talks all the time, it is not helpful”.

Every morning, I wake up at 6 a.m. and work until 10:30 p.m. or 11 p.m. Recently, I saw Dr Ofori’s 60th birthday. I saw so many nice ladies dressing up beautifully, enjoying life. I really envy that type of life. But I don’t know when I enjoyed my life, and also when I had a rest”
She added, “Running a company is not easy. Sometimes, I feel I’m not capable enough. I went everywhere to learn to study, but it is still hard” .
The CEO of Ghanaian automobile company, Zonda Tec Ghana Ltd, remarks have ignited netizens on social media saying, “Because of money you won’t retire, look at your face and age, everyone can clearly see you need to hand over everything to someone energetic so they can run it themselves you guide and mentor them but because of greed you go run everything, white people are also sometimes greedy”.
One X user added, “This woman has really displayed grit, dedication and enthusiasm in her quest to make her business stand out, is always the hardworking ones going through it the hardest way. I doff my hat for all women trying so hard to build success the clean and honest way”.
One more Ghanaian wrote, “People see the CEO title and assume glamour. They rarely see the sleepless nights, pressure, payroll stress, and mental fatigue behind it, but let’s not make this about gender!”.
An X user added, “She’s worth millions of dollars, so what her point here? Chinese people are stingy, and she doesn’t want to enjoy her worth here in Ghana”.
“A role model indeed. The work this woman puts into advertising her craft is something worth emulating. The sacrifice will pay off”, a netizen added.
One X user added, “I have paid attention to the details of her statement, and I want to conclude that the average Ghanaian youth is lazy. This woman is in her late 50’s and look at her routine. OMG”.
“I was in this lady’s office somewhere in 2021, and she taught me a very valuable lesson in skills acquisition and utilisation. I despised her at the very beginning until I realised what she meant. And oh! Her office is massive, clean, and her desk is out of this world. Solid woman!”, an X user added.
One last X user added, “Sorry, but then you are not managing your time well. There are a lot of ways to reduce time to be more productive and effective. Business is hard, no doubt, but the outcome is always on how you manage your business and employees”.

Alhaji Masawudu, the 3rd National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has launched a scathing attack on Dr Mustapha Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA)
According to Alhaji Masawudu Mustapha, Hamid was so arrogant during his tenure as the National Petroleum Authority boss.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Alhaji Masawudu’s claims stated, “He wasn’t that type of person wai. He was so humble and down to earth. How can you make such a terrible statement about him? Please, we want peace in the party. Let’s stop making these statements about our party people”.
A netizen added, “Not disputing his claims, but at this material moment, it’s clear that this is sheer bitterness aimed at denigrating his contender, @MustaphaHamid Buga, the days for this kind of politics are far gone .
