Medical staff named in Charles Amissah’s death facing threats – GMA

0

Dr Ernest Yorke, the President of the Ghana Medical Association, has said the decision to publicly identify the doctors in the investigative report into the death of Charles Amissah as “unfortunate”.

The GMA president raised strong concerns over the handling of the investigative report into the death of Charles Amissah.

According to the GMA president, the naming of medical professionals in the findings has exposed them to public hostility and personal risk.

Speaking on Citi News on Thursday, May 7, GMA President Ernest Yorke noted that the decision has shifted focus to the gap in the country’s emergency sector.

He revealed that some of the health professionals named in the report are already facing threats, online harassment and damaging messages.

Ernest Yorke lamented, “…It has implications for their practice, their mental health, and others. And that is why we are saying even if they’ve done wrong, there are better ways of handling this without necessarily having to put them [out]”.

The GMA president argued that alternative approaches should have been used, highlighting that in many disciplinary systems, identities are protected until processes are concluded, and in other cases, names are withheld to prevent undue harm.

His comments follow the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah, which has sanctioned seven medical staff members over their failure to attend to the late engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited.

The medical staff sanctioned include Anne-Marie Kudowor of the Police Hospital, Naomi Eyram Adotevi and Akosua B. Turkson of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Ida Druant, Genevieve Adjar, Joy Daisy Nelson, and Salamatu Alhassan Aidoo of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who are to face disciplinary action for breaching their professional duties in the care of Charles Amissah and for being untruthful to the Committee.

The committee, chaired by Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, presented its findings on May 6, 2026, detailing that, “Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor failed to exercise ethical and professional judgment prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at Police Hospital, leading to his death, and was untruthful to the committee.

“Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi also failed to exercise ethical and professional judgement prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, leading to his death later,” Professor Akosa remarked.

Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor has been recommended for referral to the Police Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) for disciplinary action over alleged misconduct.

They also referred Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the MDC for disciplinary action.

Also, Dr Ida Druant and Dr Genevieve Adjar of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been recommended for disciplinary action by their institution and the MDC for similar breaches.

Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa committee also further recommended sanctions against nursing staff, including  Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective institutions and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The committee, beyond individual accountability, outlined urgent systemic reforms.

We have a strong case against Ex-Buffer Stock CEO – Deputy AG

0

Justice Srem-Sai, a Deputy Attorney General, has disclosed that the state has a strong case against the accused persons in the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) case.

According to the Deputy AG,  the decision to discontinue all charges against the former NAFCO boss and his wife in an ongoing criminal case is consistent with standard criminal procedure.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, May 7, Dr Srem-Sai stated, “You cannot just come to court when you have fresh evidence in a criminal trial and start throwing around the evidence”.

“You need to hear from the accused persons regarding the fresh evidence. That will inform your final decision whether you will charge the person or not. But to say that fresh evidence is not available merely because you don’t have it is completely improper and unethical.”

“It is part of criminal procedure to do that whenever you have fresh evidence. I don’t know why this has become an issue for the former Attorney General, who should know better, to be lamenting across the media, making the same point,” he added.

His comments follow Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, who were arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The two were arrested after the Attorney-General had earlier discontinued all charges against them in an ongoing criminal case.

The development comes after the Attorney General and Minister of Justice have withdrawn all charges against the accused persons in the Buffer Stock case.

According to a report by TheLawPlatform in a post on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Attorney General’s withdrawal of all charges in the GH¢78 million Buffer Stock case follows procedural setbacks suffered in previous proceedings.

Former NAFCO CEO Abdul-Wahab Hanan, who was the first accused, was represented by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, while the counsel for the second accused person was Augustine Obour.

The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, in a post on Facebook, informed the court that the prosecution had decided to discontinue proceedings against the accused persons following the emergence of fresh evidence.

“Following the discovery of fresh evidence, we have, a while ago, withdrawn from the prosecution of all the Accused Persons in the case of THE REPUBLIC v HANAN ABDUL-WAHAB ALUDIBA and 4 OTHERS. This is to afford each of the Accused Persons a fair and a more speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution,” he stated in a post on X.

Dr Justice Srem-Sai explained that the decision was intended to ensure that each of the accused persons is given “a fair and speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution.”

Meanwhile, Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has said the criminal case against the former Chief Executive of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, is going to get bigger.

According to Martin Kpebu, the Attorney General, revealing thy have uncovered Fresh evidence means more loot.

Speaking on JoyNews Prime on Tuesday, May 5, Martin Kpebu stated, “So that is what I meant by the case is going to be bigger. It means that fresh evidence means more loot, unfortunately. So I’m not celebrating it. It’s sad. But the good news is that at least it means that they’ve uncovered it. And so it’s likely that at the end of the trial, we should be able to get back the property”.

Lawyer Kpebu argued that the Attorney-General, Dr Domininic Ayine, and his deputy, knowing the intense public scrutiny surrounding the case, would not have taken the “risky” step of cancelling the existing trial unless the new evidence was substantial enough.

He added, “No, the Attorney General knows… they both know that Ghanaians are expectant and some have even lost patience. For them to stop this trial and say they are going to start a fresh one, it tells you that it must be worth it. It must be worth it”.

“No, these two guys, I don’t think they want to take chances that what they’ve uncovered is so small and yet they are starting the trial fresh. No, it must be big. It must be premium. It must be worth the cancellation of the case and the filing afresh”.

“So let’s give them a few days. They definitely will see it,” he concluded.

25 women visit me for ‘juju’ every day because school girls are snatching their husbands – Kwaku Bonsam

Kwaku Bonsam, a Traditional priest, has disclosed that about twenty-five (25) women visit him every day for ‘juju’.

He disclosed that the women come to him because school girls have been snatching their husbands.

According to Kwaku Bonsam, both men and women come to him seeking spiritual help.

He, however, disclosed that women are the ones who come more for spiritual help.

Kwaku Bonsam stressed that physical appearance and self-care are important but often overlooked by married women.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s ‘Let’s Talk’ on May 5, 2026, Kwaku Bonsam stated, “Women come more. Looking at the statistics, about 25 married women visit me every day. Most of them want their partners to love them so much. These days, young school girls are snatching people’s husbands”.

“It’s not the spiritual charm; it’s the dressing, because she changed his hair, did the nails, wearing a sexy outfit,” he said.

“In marriage, you don’t look at the physical. Look at the heart,” he said, adding that “beauty fades with time while love and a good heart endure.”

Meanwhile, Kwaku Bonsam has revealed that Juju can influence attraction, but building relationships requires effort.

The Traditional priest offered advice on marriage, intimacy, and self-care by telling couples to balance spiritual practices with practical effort.

“It’s not the spiritual charm; it’s the dressing, because he changed his hair, did the nails, wearing a sexy outfit,” he said.

“In marriage, you don’t look at the physical. Look at the heart,” he said, adding that “beauty fades with time while love and a good heart endure.”

Kwaku Bonsam highlighted that emotional connection is essential for long-term stability in relationships, adding that intimacy is a critical component of marriage, noting that dissatisfaction in that area often becomes a major source of conflict between couples.

0

A young man who was seen in a viral video threatening to kill any police officer or soldier sent to arrest him has now apologised.

According to the young man, he was only creating content when he made those pronouncements.

Speaking in another viral video, the young man stated, “Ghanaian leaders, I am pleading with you, I posted a video on TikTok, I was only making content, I should not have said those things. I threatened the Police and soldiers. I have seen some people have posted my pictures in a wanted group.

I am not a thief, I am not a bad person, I am a hustler. The things I said, I did not speak properly. Please forgive me, Ghana Police and Soldiers”.

It will be recalled that the young Ghanaian man had earlier threatened personnel of the Ghana Police Service and of the Ghana Armed Forces in a viral video.

Some Ghanaians reacted to the man’s apology, stating, “Ah so why people dey do this to open camera and treating police and later come back to apologise how bro? All because of u want to trend lol them for lock am”.

“This is what I don’t want to hear. Content or not, arrest him. As he posted this video, I said that let not hear somebody come and beg for him later. 12 hours later, see,” a netizen added.

One X user added, “Naaa, we won’t accept this

This fooling must stop. We have to use him as an example

He must be arrested”.

A netizen quizzed, “My question is, why is it that such videos are always coming from people outside Accra?

The gap between Accra and the other regions is really wide”.

Additionally, one X user added, “These useless things are the reason I hate online shit. You can’t just rant and say it’s just content 😌 kids, older people, etc. are all watching and you can’t make sensible content”.

Seven medical staff sanctioned for failing to attend to Charles Amissah

0

The committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has sanctioned seven medical staff members over their failure to attend to the late engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited.

They propose the establishment of a National Electronic Emergency Bed Management System to improve coordination and provide real-time information on hospital bed availability across the country.

They also recommended the compulsory triaging of all patients presenting in emergency conditions.

“This was one of the critical findings of the committee. We recommend steps to fully integrate the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital into the national emergency and critical care system. It has a 150-bed capacity with an ICU, and we felt this is a national asset that should be brought into the system. Ensure compulsory triaging of all patients brought to healthcare facilities in a state of emergency across the country, both public and private facilities.

“Establish a national emergency care fund to enable emergency care for the first 24 hours in public and private healthcare facilities. What this means is that if you are picked up anywhere, you are moved to the nearest hospital for stabilisation, whether private or public,” he added.

Meanwhile, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has revealed that he died from a slow death from medical neglect.

According to a three-member committee set up to probe the death of hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah did not die from an instant trauma.

The committee disclosed that failure by the medical staff at the Police hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital led to the death of the 29-year-old engineer on February 6.

Chair Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa of the committee said the case reflected a breakdown in emergency triage systems across the facilities involved.

“The pathology confirms that this was a slow death from medical neglect and not from the instant trauma. What it means is that if at any of these facilities there had been medical intervention, Charles Amissah would have survived,” the committee stated.

It will be recalled that for close to three hours on February 6, 2026, Charles Amissah, the victim, was denied treatment by Ridge, Police, and Korle Bu hospitals before passing away.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk and other food products.

MahamaCares receives GH¢6.1m from President Mahama and appointees’ salaries

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communication, has disclosed that the Controller and Accountant-General has deducted and transferred a total of GHS 6.1 million from President John Mahama’s salary donation and appointee contributions to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares).

In a post shared on X, Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “At the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) last year, President Mahama pledged to donate six months of his salary to the Fund.

Subsequently, he encouraged his appointees to donate one month’s salary each to the Fund.

He then ordered appointees who defaulted on his first deadline for Asset declaration to forfeit three months’ salary to be donated to the Fund.

The Controller and Accountant- General has formally notified the Government that he has deducted and transferred a total of GHS 6.1 million to the Fund pursuant to the President’s directive.

He is currently making arrangements to transfer the final tranche, which will cover the Asset declaration defaulters”.

It will be recalled that in 2025, John Dramani Mahama officially launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as The MahamaCares.

The landmark initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.

The Fund seeks to cover the cost of care and medication for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) not currently included under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Meanwhile, some netizens reacting to the news shared by Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “When will we witness people going to prison? As is being said on the campaign platforms, we’re in the second year now, not even a chicken is being jailed”.

A netizen claimed, “This is nothing but a waste of everybody’s time… we pay NHIL levy on everything we do in this country, and 6.1m is what is more important and all this long paragraph. Bro, get serious. Ghanaians are already paying billions of cedis. Pretending to be moderate while stealing big”.

“Why are the asset defaulters still at post? Anyone who hasn’t declared their assets by now is obviously there to steal and should not be in a job. It shouldn’t just stop at freezing their salaries. If anything at all, freezing their salary will make them resort to stealing”, a netizen added.

However, Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, has said there will be no Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as The MahamaCares, in 2029.

According to Sammi Awuku, the NPP, after they win the 2028 elections, will scrap the MahamaCares.

He highlighted that the MahamaCares is a duplication of the NHIA and its roles.

In a news card, Sammi Awuku was quoted to have said, “There will be no MahamaCare in 2029; it is a duplication of the NHIA and its roles”.

“Piling 10 subjects over 5 days for BECE candidates is torture” – EduWatch

0

Kofi Asare, the Executive Secretary of EduWatch, has called for a reform in the structure of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The EduWatch labelled the current BECE format as a torture on learners just for school placement.

According to Kofi Asare, the current BECE format places undue pressure on students due to the number of subjects the candidates are required to write within a limited period.

He further argued that the current arrangement is outdated and does not reflect modern assessment systems used in other countries.

Kofi Asare proposed reducing the ten subjects to four subjects: Math, English, Science and General Paper.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 7, Kofi Asare wrote, “Piling 10 subjects over a 5-day high-stakes BECE just for school placement is torture on learners.

Reduce to 4 subjects: Math, English, Science & General Paper. Others even use an aptitude test plus continuous assessment. This is 2026, not 1996”.

In related news, four students sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been caught engaging in examination malpractice.

Reports suggest that the four BECE candidates were caught by external invigilators engaging in examination malpractice.

The information gathered suggests that among the four were a pair of twins who were found with swapped answer booklets.

The other two students were also busted exchanging question papers with written answers.

The news shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X wrote, “Four students sitting for the BECE have been caught by external invigilators engaging in examination malpractice.

Among them was a pair of twins who were found with swapped answer booklets, while the other two students were discovered exchanging question papers with written answers”.

Rosemond Wilson, the Head of the Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), in an interview with Channel One on May 6, 2026, stated, “There were four students. Two of them were twins, and they exchanged their answer booklets, and one was writing for the other. And then the other pair exchanged their question papers.

“And in their question papers, they’ve written solutions to some of the questions in them, so we will take it up and do further investigations,” she said.

“And the assumptions will be that if they are found culpable, that particular subject that they were involved in will be cancelled,” she stated.

Also, John Kapi, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Head of Public Affairs, has revealed that seven Teachers have been engaged in alleged examination malpractice during the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to John Kapi, the arrests were made across three regions: the Central, Bono and Ashanti Regions.

He disclosed that three of the teachers were arrested in the Central Region, two in the Bono Region, and two in the Ashanti Region.

The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC disclosed that five of the teachers smuggled mobile phones into the examination halls, adding that investigations revealed that some solved questions on external platforms.

Meanwhile, the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination began on Monday, May 4, with over 620,000 candidates across Ghana sitting for the exams.

The exams conducted by the West African Examinations Council will run until May 11, with 620,141 candidates from 20,395 schools set to participate.

The exam officials have disclosed that they have tightened measures to curb malpractice, taking a firm stance against examination malpractice.

Of the 620,000 candidates, 304,349 are boys, and 315,792 are girls, with the 2026 BECE candidate increasing by 16,813 candidates, or 2.7%, compared to the 2025 BECE 603,328 candidates.

Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital to be opened in two to three weeks – Health Ministry

0

Tony Goodman, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, has revealed that steps have been taken to operationalise the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital within the next two to three weeks.

Speaking in an interview on Star FM, Tony Goodman stated, “Based on the commitment we’ve seen in the last 24 hours, we can assure the people of this country that within two to three weeks, we should be able to commission this facility”.

“The terms of the contract state that payment will be made by a third party, which is the World Bank. When the last certificate was issued, the World Bank refused to pay, citing prices way above the market price,” he explained.

He further cautioned, “This isn’t a banana republic. If you force your way in and the equipment develops a fault tomorrow, you cannot hold the contractor responsible. We must use dialogue to reach an amicable resolution”.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health finally broke its silence following angry residents of Weija-Gbawe who stormed the Children’s Specialist Hospital over the continued closure of the fully furnished facility.

According to the Health Ministry, the closure is due to delays in procurement irregularities, funding disputes, and unresolved contractual issues, despite the facility being physically completed.

They disclosed that the World Bank raised concerns about misprocurement, which included inflated costs of medical equipment.

In a press statement issued on May 5, the Ministry acknowledged the protest, however, attributing the delay to serious procurement breaches.

The statement revealed, “The World Bank raised concerns about misprocurement, which included inflated costs of medical equipment up to about 11 times the actual price”.

“As a result, the World Bank declined to settle all the outstanding payments.”

The Ministry disclosed that while it was “prepared to commission the facility for use,” the contractor refused access:

“The contractor subsequently halted this process, insisting that all outstanding issues be fully resolved before granting access to the hospital.”

“The Ministry wishes to assure the people of Ghana that it is actively engaging all stakeholders to resolve the matter in the best interest of the public.”

“The Ministry acknowledges the critical importance of the hospital… particularly in providing specialised care for children.”

“The Ministry therefore appeals to the people of Weija… to exercise patience while steps are taken to operationalise the hospital.”

The statement comes after angry residents of Weija-Gbawe have stormed the Children’s Specialist Hospital over the continued closure of the fully furnished children’s specialist hospital.

The protestors are demanding that the President commission the facility so it can begin operations.

Demonstrators were seen with placards which read,  “Weija Gbawe deserves healthcare, not delays”, and “No excuses, commission the Weija Gbawe children’s hospital.”

Kwame Asante, a frustrated resident during the protest, stated, “I have entered the hospital before, when it was completed. It has everything in it,” he said. “I think we should put the NDC, NPP issue aside, it is about Weija-Gbawe. I want to plead with the health minister and the government to come and commission this project.”

“We are losing our children because when you go to the old children’s place, the place is not safe for children. But this one is, and yet it is closed, why?” he asked.

Hannah, who is a trained pharmacist and a resident of the area, stated, “I have been trained as a pharmacist for all these years, and I am home. But we have a facility here closed. If this is opened, I could be employed, and I will get work to do,” she said.

Comfort, another irate resident stated, “Two months ago, my sister’s child collapsed, and we drove here only to realise that it is still closed. So we had to go all the way to Marina Hospital, which is very far from here.

“We cannot watch these instances keep happening. We want to plead with the government to open the facility to service the children,” she said.

“We have ambulances, and every facility that is needed; it only needs to be commissioned for use.”

Side chicks or side guys generally have no place in a divorce case – Supreme Court

0

Joseph Ackah-Blay, a Legal practitioner in a post on social media, has detailed that the Supreme Court of Ghana has clarified that persons accused of having affairs, “side chicks”  or “side guys” with married spouses, are not automatically entitled to join divorce proceedings.

According to the post shared by Joseph Ackah-Blay, the Supreme Court held that such individuals ‘side chicks” may only join the case where they raise substantial legal issues directly connected to the dispute before the court.

The Legal practitioner in his post shared on May 6, 2026 wrote, “The Supreme Court of Ghana has settled an interesting question which sometimes comes up in divorce cases. When for instance a wife sues for divorce and names “the other woman”  whom she alleges to be having an affair with her husband in her petition, must that woman be joined to the case as a party? (works the other way round as well)

The court answered: not always. Sometimes yes. This is the decision in the case of Vida Yeboah v Dr Stephen Yeboah & Mercy Agyeiwaa, decided on 29th April 2026.

In April 2019, Vida Yeboah filed for divorce against her husband, Dr Stephen Yeboah, at the High Court, Agona Swedru. The fact in support of her claim that the marriage had broken down beyond reconciliation was adultery, and she named one Mercy Agyeiwaa as the woman the husband was seeing. According to the petition, the husband had even moved Mercy from Kasoa into a new flat about twenty feet from the matrimonial home in Gomoa Oguaakrom.

When Mercy got wind of the petition, she did not stay quiet. She applied to join as a party. Her position was interesting. That she was no side chick. She said she was already the husband’s customary wife from 15th July 2012, two whole years before Vida and Stephen’s 2014 ordinance wedding. She tendered photographs of the customary ceremony and named witnesses. She also said she had contributed her own money to the very properties Vida was asking the court to share equally.

The High Court allowed her to join. The Court of Appeal threw her out, saying her presence would only “murky the waters”. The Supreme Court has now restored her place and sent the matter back to the High Court for trial.

The Supreme Court, however, cautioned that this judgment is no general invitation for every named “party” to walk into a divorce.

In its own words, persons “commonly referred to in Ghana as ‘side chicks’ or ‘side guys'” generally have no place as parties in a divorce. If the only thing such a person can offer is to admit having had something with someone else’s spouse, the most they can ever be is a witness. It noted that Section 12 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1971 uses “may”, not “shall”, and that joinder is at the discretion of the court, not automatic.

What set Mercy apart is that she did not show up with just a denial. She brought two legal issues: a competing customary marriage, which, if proved, would invalidate the very marriage Vida wanted dissolved; and a property claim in the assets Vida was asking the court to share equally.

This, the court reasoned, made her presence necessary for the trial court to settle the matters in dispute”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “You cannot practice customary marriage and at the same time, ordinance, and you cannot also mix the two systems. So the marriage by ordinance should be declared void since the customary preceded it. It is better she allows the man to marry her as a second wife now or forget it”.

“So basically, the ordinance marriage is going to be declared void?

If yes, what does the man suffer for committing bigamy, for wasting a woman’s time when proven the law doesn’t allow another marriage if he had already married under customary law?”, a netizen added.

“Wow interesting

So if Mercy’s marriage is verified doss it mean   Vida’s marriage is null and the case thrown out?

In that case, can Vida sue for deception or waste of time or something like that? For compensation?”, a netizen added.

A netizen quizzed, “Good read..

Now, let me ask this question. Is there any law/laws in Ghana regarding marriage that states that a man can marry only one woman?”.

Watch BECE candidate breastfed a baby in the exam hall

A video has surfaced on social media capturing the moment a crying baby was brought to her mum to be breastfed during the  Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) exams.

In the viral video, the crying baby was brought into the hall to be attended to by her mother, who was a candidate identified as a nursing mother.

Reports suggest the incident occurred during the Integrated Science paper in the Krachi East District.

In a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, he wrote, “The Integrated Science paper of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Krachi East District experienced a brief interruption when a crying baby was brought into the examination hall to be attended to by a candidate, a nursing mother.

The incident momentarily disrupted proceedings, as the candidate was permitted to care for the child under strict supervision.

The video has generated widespread reactions online, with some netizens saying, “Why allow this young girl to give birth in the first place? I might not be the only person who thinks it doesn’t make sense to allow her to conceive.

She got pregnant, yes. Is it good for the future, no.

Just imagine nursing a baby and having to sit down and learn to write one of the most important exams in her life.

Her parents or guardians didn’t try at all”.

One netizen stated, “Worst invigilator ever. And they’re recording it. Instead of him to carry the kid while the mom writes the exam.

That’s Ghana for you. They want to disgrace her for whatever reason, but ebe human she born”.

A netizen added, “Her identity being exposed is not acceptable. As a minor whose identity needs to be protected, she is having her right to privacy violated. Her face should be blurred”.

“The determination of a young mother sitting her BECE with a baby. Ghana must make sure she gets every support she needs to continue her education”, one X user added.

Meanwhile, the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination began on Monday, May 4, with over 620,000 candidates across Ghana sitting for the exams.

“Me, my tithes, if you are dying, you will die; I won’t give you” – Rev Kwadwo Bempah

0

Reverend Kwadwo Bempah, Head Pastor of the Holy Hill Chapel, Assemblies of God Church, has caused a stir on social media following a viral video of him speaking about tithes.

Speaking in the viral video, shared by Daily Graphic online, Rev Kwadwo Bempah stated that he would not give out his tithe under any circumstances.

According to Rev Kwadwo Bempah, he won’t give out his tithes even to someone who is dying, adding that giving to God is a means to be rewarded with divine abundance.

The man of God highlighted that he could risk losing his salvation if he gave his tithe to a person instead of offering it to God.

Rev Kwadwo Bempah in the viral video stated, “I won’t give you my tithe; if you are dying, you will die. I won’t give it to you. Because if I give it to you, I will join you in dying. But if I give my tithe, maybe God will raise you. So be careful.

“Those of you who have twisted so many things about God, unbelievers, when they hear this, they don’t understand. It is God first,” he said.

The man of God added, “God will never allow you to let anything take His place, whether your wife, your husband, or your children. He gave you those children; they cannot be more important than Him. God does not struggle to give; He simply breathes, and things come into being.

“That is why some people desire children but do not have them, while others who do not seek them receive them. What seems difficult is not difficult for God. Obey Him. Come out of emotions. In blessing, I will bless you,” he added.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the man of God’s claims stated, “What does God need money for? Stop extorting money from poor and innocent people in the name of God. Something that is created by man, and you think God needs it in order to grant someone’s wish. Come on, pastor!”.

One X user added, “All these stomach pastors using tithe to manipulate gullible people, they keep making Christianity very unattractive and archaic. God don’t need anyone’s tithe to be God; all the tithe and offering go to the pastors and their families, leaving the poor and vulnerable to nothing”.

“If not religious slavery, then who will listen to this nonsense…..have you seen God before? Or do you people think the useless and nonsensical things you do in that building mean anything to God ong? Whose religion is given…sense is actually taken ampa”, a netizen added.

An X user stated, “So he wants me to watch my brother die because of given first to God….

The Bible de3 everyone Dey preach where e do benefit am…..

I just wish one day God would appear somewhere in the clouds and tell us the truth”.

An additional netizen added, “Most of our African Pastors have a lot of faith, read their Bible from cover to cover, but will follow the wrong teachings and practices because of money. This isn’t new to us at all”.

One last X user added, “Most of you speak out of emotions too much

There’s context here; if you don’t understand what Tithe means, don’t insult a preacher about it.

In Christianity, the tithe is a tax you pay to the church; you can’t negotiate with GRA that you are dying, so they should let you spend your tax on the government.

If you want to do good, which Christianity encourages, you do good with the rest of your 90% of your salary after you have the take the 10% tithe. Simple”.

We demand disciplinary action, report won’t bring him back – Charles Amissah’s Family

0

The family of late engineer Charles Amissah have broken its silence following the investigative committee presenting its findings.

According to Charles Amissah’s family, they are satisfied with the findings of the investigative committee, but demanded disciplinary action against individuals found culpable.

Dr Matilda Amissah, a sister of the deceased, speaking after the  No Bed Syndrome” report in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, May 6, disclosed that the findings were painful to revisit but are an important step for accountability.

She stated, “We are grieving; it will not bring Charles Amissah back, but we hope that disciplinary action will be taken by the various bodies. Yes, [we are satisfied with the recommendations of the report,]”.

“I am not very good. I am very sad. It reminds me of all that happened previously,” she added.

Dr Matilda Amissah further commended the investigative committee for their professional job and also the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Ministry of Health.

“The investigative committee has done excellent work. We appreciate the professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout the entire pursuit of the truth,” she said.

Meanwhile, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has recommended disciplinary actions against some doctors and nurses for multiple healthcare professional breaches.

Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa’s committee also further recommended sanctions against nursing staff, including  Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective institutions and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The committee, beyond individual accountability, outlined urgent systemic reforms.

Family of Charles Amissah launches foundation for emergency care reform

The family of the late engineer Charles Amissah has disclosed that they have found purpose by launching a foundation for emergency care reform.

According to reports, for close to three hours on February 6, 2026, the victim was denied treatment by Ridge, Police, and Korle Bu hospitals before passing away.

GTA runs from Karnival Kingdom Festival as Catholic Bishops’ demand probe over public nudity

0

Bright Asempa Tsadidey, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has clarified that it did not approve, endorse, or sanction the recently held Karnival Kingdom Festival.

According to the GTA, the five-day Caribbean-style carnival event organised in Osu, Greater Accra Region, was never endorsed.

The GTA revealed they were surprised by the event and are currently collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to establish the facts under which the carnival was organised.

Speaking to Citi News, Bright Asempa Tsadidey stated, “We know that the Ghana Tourism Authority, when it comes to tourists coming into the country and their activities, indeed, we are deeply involved. However, this group of people, the Ghana Tourism Authority, has no idea of what went on on the streets of Accra.

“We have not okayed, we have not endorsed, and we have not sanctioned any group of people to undertake such an exercise or event.

“We have reached out to the Ghana Police Service, already trying to find out the organisers of this very work so that we can engage them.”

The Karnival Kingdom Festival drew public attention following videos and nude images circulated on social media, leading to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference issuing a statement demanding a probe.

According to the  Catholic Bishops, the public nudity displayed at the Karnival Kingdom Festival is an eyesore that denigrates our values as a nation and breaches the laws of our land.

The Catholic Bishops’ detailed that the event which took place between  22-28 April 2026, with participants receiving police protection.

They called for an immediate investigation into the role of State Institutions, and the importation of foreign cultural practices.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, on Facebook, and signed by the President, Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, read, “STATEMENT FROM THE GHANA CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE ON THE KARNIVAL KINGDOM FESTIVAL

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has taken note of the public nudity at the Karnival Kingdom Festival (22-28 April 2026), during which participants received police protection. The event was an eyesore, denigrated our values as a nation and breached the laws of our land (cf section 278 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29).

1. The Demand for Investigation. We, Pastors of our Land, unequivocally condemn the act of public nudity and call for immediate investigation into the role of State Institutions, and the importation of foreign cultural practices. The presence of police protection for participants raises serious questions about official oversight. The Conference commends the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Honourable John Ntim Fordjour, for his call in this direction.

2. Cultural Tension Requires Discernment. The event reflects a clash between globalised festival culture and Ghana’s established legal standards. An imported event cannot claim exemption from Ghanaian law. Cultural exchange must respect the host nation’s laws and values.

3. Governance Questions Are Serious. Who approved the permits and the deployment of police to protect participants engaged in public nudity? The Conference is deeply concerned that state agencies responsible for protecting public order may have facilitated rather than prevented this misconduct.

4. No Political Interference In Investigation. The Conference urges all parties to allow the investigative process to proceed without undue political pressure.

5. Recommendations. The Conference recommends a thorough, impartial investigation with public findings; review of permitting processes with clear decency guidelines; an inquiry into why police protection was provided; and a national dialogue on limits of cultural expression in public spaces.

Conclusion. Provision of police protection for acts that breach the criminal code represents a serious failure of official duty. Enforcement of laws is urgently needed”.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk and other food products.

Meanwhile, some months ago Seasoned journalist and host of the Citi Breakfast Show, Bernard Avle, has poured his outrage at Ghana’s medical system after the death of a hit-and-run victim who was turned away by three hospitals in Accra.

Bernard Avle stressed that a medical professional who refuses to provide care for sick or injured people brought to the hospital are evil person.

According to Bernard Avle, who recounted a similar event of a 70-year-old man in 2018 who went to seven hospitals before passing away in his car, highlighting that it been eight years but there have been no serious shifts in the operational policy.

He stressed that Doctors and nurses need to have empathy, but in Ghana, many people are in the medical field just because of money.

Speaking on Citi FM, an irate Benard Avle stated, “How can a society sit down for such a thing to happen and not put in place any systems? You covered a 70-year-old man who went to seven hospitals in 2018. From 2018 to 2026 is eight years, have there been any serious shifts in the operational policy of hospitals to show that we value life? We don’t most people who enter this profession are just looking for money, that is what we do.

Shame on you, shame on you, Pastors Sunday preach about these things, Preach about it that if you are a nurse and somebody is brought to your hospital and you don’t care about the person and the person dies, you are an evil person.

If you are a Doctor who does not care about someone’s death because you claim… You don’t know anything; your training is incomplete. Empathy is part of your training”.

Benard Avle further added, “I was even told that the first step towards doing a certain kind of thinking is empathy, because before you can solve someone’s problem, you must know how they are feeling. There is no empathy, the society collectively has lost the plot, we do not value human live what we value is to be seen to be good people”.

Seasoned journalist and host further bemoan how Ghana’s system, be it the Hospital, Court, or Police are structured to frustrate a person with no money.

“There is a lot of hypocrisy in the society, because there are society that are less religious than us, who preserve human lives and organise their systems to make sure that nobody dies a stupid death and whether you go to court, you go to the police, you to the hospital, the whole system is structured to frustrate you if you do not have money”, he added.

According to the MCE, one individual has been arrested in connection with the violent clash involving three machete-wielding illegal miners at Akim Oda.

He also disclosed that the two other individuals, who sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital under heavy police guard.

He further expressed his appreciation to the Akyem Oda Divisional Police Command for their swift and timely response following reports of the incident.

A Police press release issued on May 6, 2026, by DSP David Fianko-Okyere stated, “Suspect George Okyere, age 30 with a deep cut on his forehead and his right finger chopped off was met at the emergency ward of the Oda Jubilee Hospital while suspect Paul Pascalele was met at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital emergency ward with a deep cut on the right hand receiving treatment.

One X user added, “So so fooling nkoaa for the street. Things wey animals dey shock if them see

Who Dey shout awurade for there nu? Make He forget my prayers come separate mad men?”

“To be doing this in the full glare of the public in itself indicates one thing: no fear of community leaders and a lack of respect for the sensibilities of the general public. If they don’t care about their personal lives, what about the others that are being forced to witness it, including possibly children that might pass by? These guys have got to be arrested and locked up for a long while”,  a netizen added.

Northern leaders demand three key actions against Greater Accra Regional Minister

0

Pressure is mounting on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, following Leaders from the five Northern regions demanding her resignation.

The Northern leaders described the minister’s remarks as “a reckless affront to the dignity of an entire people.”

According to them, Northern Ghana is not and will never be a punishment destination.

Bernard Mornah, speaking in a statement issued on  May 6, 2026, on behalf of the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions, stated, “Northern Ghana is not – and will never be – a penal destination for administrative discipline,” the statement said. “It is a vital and indispensable part of our republic, rich in history, culture, intellect, and contribution.”

They further argued that Linda Ocloo’s explanation does not address the seriousness of the comment.

In the statement, they also described the Minister’s remarks as an irony, citing President John Dramani Mahama, whom they say has strong ties to northern Ghana.

“For a beneficiary of such leadership to publicly demean the region is not only ironic, but also reflects poor judgment,” the statement added.

They also demanded three key actions: “a formal visit by the minister to engage traditional leaders, her resignation or dismissal, and a renewed government commitment to national unity and equal respect for all regions”.

Their demands come on the heels of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who once again caused a stir with her public remarks after revealing that some officials have been transferred to the North as punishment.

According to Linda Ocloo, officials of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) who are issuing illegal building permits have been transferred to the north, just to serve as a kind of punishment for them.

Speaking during a demolition exercise on May 5, 2026, the Greater Accra Regional Minister stated, “If you issue a permit to an illegal structure, knowing very well that the place is illegal, you will also face the law…some of them have been transferred to the north, just to serve as a kind of punishment for them, so that when they realize that what they did was wrong, they are brought back to Accra or other places.”

Meanwhile, Linda Ocloo, has issued an apology, following public backlash over comments suggesting that postings to the northern part of Ghana could be perceived as a form of punishment.

According to Linda Ocloo, her remarks in the viral video were just a genuine slip, which does not reflect her considered views.

In a press statement issued by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), the minister stated, “My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I made remarks suggesting that postings to the northern part of our beloved country could be considered as a form of punishment”.

“I wish to state, without reservation, that the comments captured in the video were a genuine slip in communication and do not reflect my considered views.”

“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she said.

“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns that this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” she stated.

Also, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has been urged to consider leaving her role to allow others to bring a more unifying approach to the regional ministerial role.

According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to NPP Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Linda Ocloo must resign over her recent controversial remarks.

Miracles Aboagye highlighted that the Greater Accra Regional Minister is always camera happy, but always makes loose talk all the time.

He argued that public office requires a high level of discipline in communication.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, May 6, Dennis Miracles Aboagye stated, “…But if you choose to go the path on which she is doing, where she’s camera happy, she always wants to be in front of the camera, and she’s always making very loose talks all the time, it is not helpful”.

Pastor Danny Boateng Kusi, a Ghanaian youth preacher, has passed away.

Reports suggest Pastor Danny Boateng Kusi has passed away following a sudden medical emergency.

Sources say the youth preacher began his day as usual and stepped out to the gym before his untimely demise.

The news shared by SIKAOFFICIAL read, “Ghanaian youth preacher, Pastor Danny Boateng Kusi, has reportedly passed away following a sudden medical emergency.

According to sources close to him, the young man of God had begun his day as usual and stepped out to the gym before his untimely demise.

The development has sparked speculation that he may have suffered a cardiac arrest leading to his death, although this has not been officially confirmed”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, “Understand this about life we’re all here to live and enjoy it, and none of us knows when our time will come. If someone lives to 70 or 80 and beyond, it’s not just luck it also reflects how well they’ve taken care of themselves.

Habits like smoking and drinking don’t guarantee death, but they can shorten your life. At the same time, no one lives forever. One day, we’ll all be gone, and the next generation, our children, will take our place, just as we came to replace those before us. Painful”.

One X user added, “Those supplements for bulking are too much, it puts a strain on your liver and kidneys, and it contains a lot of sugar…”.

A netizen added, “Deeply heartbreaking. The church and everyone impacted have lost a young servant of God. Strength to all affected”.

“Oh my goodness. There’s still fire shutteth in his bones. Life is indeed fleeting .. RIP to him”, an X user wrote.

One last netizen stated, “Moments like this should remind us how fragile life is. We will all go one day, let’s love and support each other devoid of envy and hatred”.

“24-Hour Economy should not be reduced to intellectual masturbation” – Mahama gov’t told

0

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has told the John Mahama-led government not to reduce the 24-Hour Economy intellectual masturbation.

According to Kwsi Pratt, the 24-Hour Economy initiative risks being reduced to what he labels as ‘intellectual masturbation’ if authorities fail to act decisively.

He highlighted that the concept is not theoretical but requires immediate, practical implementation instead.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on May 6, 2026, Kwesi Pratt stated, “It should not, again, I’m going to use a word, please forgive me if it’s inappropriate… it should not be reduced to intellectual masturbation. It’s a practical thing”.

He highlighted that Ghana already has the ministries, departments and agencies capable of running round-the-clock operations, adding that the government must avoid delays caused by bureaucratic processes.

In related news, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minority Spokesperson on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has said the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill passed by parliament will not deliver a 24-Hour work cycle.

The member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi is quoted by a TV3 news flyer to have said, “I say it in pain that the bill they have passed will not deliver a 24-hour work cycle in this country. We will be here!”

According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill passed does not include an instrument that will ensure public agencies work for 24 hours.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah further explained, “Even the functions of the bill, they don’t put in it that this authority is to ensure that public agencies work for 24 hours. When we tried to put it in, they objected to it; that is why I am saying to you in all humility, they know what they are doing”.

“They are hoodwinking it in front of young people that they have passed the bill. It is coming, and I regret to say that nothing is coming. I encourage the young people to go online google the bill, and read it for yourself. You will be disappointed”.

“They have time; they have about two more budgets to go; they have time to correct some of these things. Unfortunately, when we speak, I think because of the partisan nature of politics, the NDC is more interested in debating us than picking lessons. Even when we confess our mistakes, they are more interested in debating us than listening to our confessions”, he added.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law on Thursday, February 19.

The signing paves the way for the full implementation of the Mahama government’s flagship economic policy.

According to John Mahama, the 24-hour economy authority will now have to move from strategy to implementation following his signing of the bill into law.

However, Mark Badu Aboagye, the CEO of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has warned the John Mahama government that the 24-Hour Economy is turning into another policy slogan.

According to the GNCCI CEO, if the former Akufo-Addo governments had even implemented just 50% of their 1D1F, all of Ghana’s employment issues would have been solved.

He explained policies like the 24-hour economy are well thought through, but suffer from poor implementation.

“The case is going to be bigger” – Kpebu break silence on the GH¢78m Buffer Stock case reset

0

Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has said the criminal case against the former Chief Executive of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, is going to get bigger.

This is to afford each of the Accused Persons a fair and a more speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution.,” he stated in a post on X.

Dr Justice Srem-Sai explained that the decision was intended to ensure that each of the accused persons is given “a fair and speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution.”

Background

It will be recalled that Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has filed twenty-four criminal charges against the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, and four others.

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and four others have been accused of offences involving stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, and three others have been charged with multiple offences, including stealing, money laundering, and causing over GHC 300 million in financial loss to the state.

Abdul-Wahab also transferred an additional GH¢5.49 million to his own company, Aludiba Enterprise, for the supply of food items to NAFCO.

Co-accused Faiza Seidu Wuni is alleged to have laundered more than GH¢13.2 million through her firm, Fa-Hausa Ventures, and caused a further GH¢4.4 million loss to the state.

The Aludiba Foundation and Energy Partners Limited, linked to Abdul-Wahab, have also been charged with receiving and laundering proceeds.

Video – Four BECE candidates caught engaging in examination malpractice

0

Four students sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been caught engaging in examination malpractice.

Rosemond Wilson the Head of the Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), in an interview with Channel One on May 6, 2026 stated, “There were four students. Two of them were twins, and they exchanged their answer booklets, and one was writing for the other. And then the other pair exchanged their question papers.

“And in their question papers, they’ve written solutions to some of the questions in them, so we will take it up and do further investigations,” she said.

“And the assumptions will be that if they are found culpable, that particular subject that they were involved in, will be canceled,” she stated.

Some Ghanains reacting to the news wrote, “But external invigilators ankasa be post kaya too much. Them naa dey sell the questions then them go out go catch students. We for dey catch them too”.

A netizen added, “Exam malpractice at this level isn’t just individual cheating, it reflects a system where performance pressure is higher than learning incentives. Over time, that erodes the value of every certificate issued”.

“What was the real purpose of recording that child and putting it out there? Yes, what he did in the exam hall was wrong, no doubt. But must we turn it into public spectacle?

These things follow a child for life and can damage their mental health. Discipline him, correct him, but don’t broadcast his mistake to the world. Not every wrongdoing needs headlines. Some lessons are better handled privately”, an X user suggested.

In related news, John Kapi, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Head of Public Affairs, has revealed that seven Teachers have been engaged in alleged examination malpractice during the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He further detailed that others fed questions into AI tools such as ChatGPT, while some took snapshots of examination questions.

Mr Kapi disclosed that some of the suspects relied on ChatGPT to generate answers, which were then dictated to candidates during the examinations.

He further highlighted that the two remaining suspects had no phones but were implicated in the malpractice scheme, one caught distributing prepared answers to candidates and the other duplicating answer sheets intended for candidates.

According to him, the suspect has been handed over to various police stations for investigation.

“This impunity must stop, release ex-Buffer Stock CEO and wife” – Afenyo-Markin tells EOCO

Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has told the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to immediately release former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the impunity must stop.

The minority leader stressed that after one year of arraignment of the two accused persons with 3 others in court on charges, the defence counsel exposed the weakness and frivolity of the case.

His comments come on the heels of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, who have been arrested.

Dr Justice Srem-Sai explained that the decision was intended to ensure that each of the accused persons is given “a fair and speedy trial in accordance with the Constitution.”

In a statement issued on his Facebook on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Afenyo-Markin wrote, “I have become aware of the unwarranted arrest and incarceration of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) yesterday, 5th May, 2026.

The needless and face-saving arrest followed one year of arraignment of the two accused persons with 3 others in court on charges whose weakness and frivolity were exposed by defence counsel through objections raised and upheld by the court at the Case Management Conference held in the course of the trial.

The Attorney-General, in response to the objections raised and in a bid to boost the weak prosecution he had initiated, attempted to introduce fresh witness statements without leave of the court, contrary to the rules governing the conduct of criminal proceedings in the Republic. When an objection was raised again by defence counsel led by Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame and same was upheld by the court, the Attorney-General’s next move was to withdraw all the charges against the accused persons.

One would have thought that EOCO would step back, conduct more thorough investigations and understand the matter before deciding whether to charge the accused persons again or not.

However, in an impulsive and knee-jerk reaction, EOCO re-arrested Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife for offences unknown to even his legal team and whisked them off to the EOCO office. Strangely, they have been refused bail and have been kept in custody since yesterday, even though they were on bail granted by the court just before the charges were withdrawn.

Hanan’s lawyers, who were at the offices of EOCO from about 11 am until 8 pm last night, were denied access to him.

I find the conduct of EOCO, the Attorney-General and the Government as a whole, in harassing and torturing these innocent citizens of the land in the manner described above, very shameful, reprehensible and most unworthy of a healthy democracy that Ghana has struggled to build the past 33 years.

The law enforcement processes should be deployed to deal with actual wrongdoing in accordance with due process and not utilised as a propagandist machinery for the Government by arresting and detaining leading members of the opposition as a way of purporting to give meaning to the Government’s failed ORAL promise.

I  take note that the Attorney-General held a massive press conference last year, cited the Buffer Stock case as a major example of the ORAL drive, and vilified these same accused persons as having stolen money from the State when he had not even filed any charges against them.

EOCO’s move in rearresting the accused persons after charges had been withdrawn (after a whole year of subjecting the accused persons to unnecessary assassination of their character) is clearly a desperate attempt to save the face of the Attorney-General and sustain a false impression of a continuation of the Government’s failed ORAL promise.

The EOCO boss, Raymond Archer, must learn to operate in accordance with due process like his predecessors used to do. That important institution of State must not be turned into a rogue outfit for harassing and torturing innocent citizens extra judicially when the Government becomes frustrated by a failure to prove offences levelled against them in a court of law, as we have seen in the Buffer Stock.

I call on EOCO and the Attorney-General to release Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni immediately.

This impunity must stop”.

“It’s time to give way for others” – Greater Accra Regional Minister told

0

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has been urged to consider leaving her role to allow others to bring a more unifying approach to the regional ministerial role.

His comments come on the heels of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who once again caused a stir with her public remarks after revealing that some officials have been transferred to the North as punishment.

Meanwhile, Ing Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has backed the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and her team for the ongoing demolition of structures encroaching on the Kepshie Lagoon.

The road and building consultant commended Linda Ocloo for her work so far, adding that the exercise was a necessary step to avert recurring floods in the capital.

According to him, the reclamation of lagoons, streams, and ponds has significantly increased Ghana’s vulnerability to flooding.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, January 27, Ing. Mahama stated, “Thumbs up to the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the team for what they are doing. I don’t know the persistence with which Ghanaians move to fill lakes, streams and ponds.

It looks like we don’t want them, yet the benefit of rivers and ponds is that, when we have a large volume of water, they accommodate it and release it gradually into the surrounding dry land”.

“But the more we consume these lakes and wetlands, the more we expose ourselves to massive floods that will inundate the country. On this call, I want to applaud the Minister,” he said.

SHOCKER – Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS staff paying GH¢30 as rent for a two-bedroom bungalow

0

A shocking development unravelled at the Public Accounts Committee sitting on May 5, 2026, following an official of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School who disclosed that staff were paying GH¢30 as rent for two-bedroom bungalows.

In a viral video, Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Samuel Atta Mills, visibly surprised, labelled the development as a complete ‘disgrace’.

According to Samuel Atta Mills, the amount is woefully inadequate to cover even the periodic maintenance costs of the facilities.

In the viral video, the Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee questioned an official of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School over how much staff pay as rent for two-bedroom bungalows.

He asked, “How much do they pay for a bungalow at Mfantsiman in Saltpond?”

The official of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School disclosed staff of the school pays GH¢30 as rent for occupying the bungalows.

“Saltpond is GH¢30. What a disgrace. Mr Chairman, for the residential rent, we are supposed to recover a total of GH¢3,666. The rent is GH¢30 for two bedrooms. It was just a way of motivating staff,” Samuel Atta Mills responded.

Samuel Atta Mills further quizzed, “What a disgrace. How much are you supposed to collect? Sir, what you collect is not enough to even renovate the place. All these bungalows are like pig pens.

“Have you heard about people paying 10% of their salaries towards rent? Or at the time the ministry introduced that policy, were you not born? Or did you never try to find out?” he said.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the development stated, “By now he dey take the rest into his personal account. Audit this guy and audit the tenants, too. I bet they’ll trace another source of money from the tenants into his personal account. Uproot these old, corrupt goons and give us the job, let’s work for our country”.

A netizen added, “At this rate, even minor repairs become a problem, and the burden quietly shifts back to the state. It raises a bigger question: is this support, or just a system that hasn’t been updated in years?”

One X user added, “The chairman should know that the salaries and other conditions of service are very poor and so charging market prices for bungalows is not only insensitive but very demoralizing”.

Another Ghanaian wrote, “See, I think it’s better they stop and save taxpayers’ money on these so-called Public Accounts Committee hearings because we’ve had enough. This whole show only exposes how our leaders keep driving the country into a ditch through corruption, yet they still walk free. So …!!?”

One X user suggested, “These policies were designed decades ago when GH¢30 actually meant something.

No one updates them because increasing rent for teachers is politically risky”.

“Na if you dey rent kiosk for Spintex safe ebi how much herh Ghana”, one X user added.

In related news, several illegal structures at the Sakumono Ramsar Site in the Greater Accra Region have been demolished as part of measures to reduce flooding.

The demolition exercise is being carried out by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council with support from the National Security and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, the Director-General of NADMO, has insisted that the state will not allow the interests of a few individuals to undermine the safety of the mass Ghanaians.

Also, Linda Ocloo has revealed owners of the affected structures had been served with several notices.

Meanwhile, Ing Abdulai Mahama, a road and building consultant, has backed the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and her team for the ongoing demolition of structures encroaching on the Kepshie Lagoon.

“Have you managed an economy before?” – Watch a heated clash between Shamima Muslim and Miracles Aboagye

0

Presidential Staffer Shamima Muslim and Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, have clashed in a heated exchange on Metro TV on May 5, 2026.

The heated exchange erupted during a discussion on the Bank of Ghana’s reported GH¢15.6 billion operating loss.

The discussion, which was initially focused on unpacking the financial implications of the Central Bank’s loss, turned tense after Shamima Muslim described both herself and  Miracles Aboagye as not being experts on the issues.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Shamima Muslim stated, “The economy was cancerous and the intervention needed to be aggressive to deal with it. So let’s listen to the experts’ voices because Miracles Aboagye and I are not experts.

Shamima Muslim’s comment triggered a sharp rebuttal from Aboagye, who insisted he is well-versed in financial matters and capable of analysing the issue.

Dennis Aboagye replied, “Who told me I’m not an expert. Who told you that you and I are on the same level when it comes to the issues?’

Shamima Muslim stressed the discussion required technical clarity rather than simplified interpretations, “You are not an expert in managing the economy… This is someone positioning himself for Ghana. Have you managed an economy before?” she questioned.

Shamima Muslim quizzed, “Dennis, what have you managed? Tell Ghanaians what economy you have managed. Dennis Aboagye, have you managed an economy before? Your intellectuality is what brought Ghana to where it is. You have not worked at the Bank of Ghana to manage any portfolio before”.

However, Dennis Aboagye maintained, “Data is not about sentiment… You lost GH¢44 billion. That’s what it is. Nothing else”.

The clash follows the Bank of Ghana’s reported GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, alleged that the central bank employed “artificial recognition” and “clever accounting” to move portions of the deficit into “other comprehensive income”.

He detailed that the move effectively downplayed the scale of the operating loss.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah argued that the BoG’s “true operating loss” is closer to GH¢34.9 billion, adding that once gold sale proceeds are factored in, the total comprehensive loss nears GH¢44 billion.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, May 3, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disputed official figures, saying, “The government and its spin doctors, led by the NDC party officials who did that press conference, are trying to convince the people of Ghana that their loss is GH¢15.6 billion.

“We regret to tell the people of Ghana that this is not true. The true operating loss of the Bank of Ghana for the year 2025 is GH¢34.9”, he remarked

He stated, “The government says the loss is GHC15.6 billion. The true operating loss of the Bank is actually GHC34.9 billion cedis.

In fact, if you add back the 9.6 billion cedis proceeds from the Gold sales, the recalculated loss is actually GHC44 billion.”

Also,  Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the former Finance Minister and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, has run to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) audited 2025 financial statements.

The Former Finance Minister petitioned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the BoG’s 2025, flagging the fiscal risks.

According to Dr Amin Adam, in a detailed letter addressed to the IMF Ghana Mission Chief under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme in Washington, D.C. to pay gains made by Ghana under the programme.

Eating dog heads does not prevent heartbreak – ICS dismiss claims

0

The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) has refuted claims that suggest consuming dog head protects individuals from emotional heartbreak.

According to the Institute of Community Sustainability, heartbreak is a psychological and emotional challenge which cannot be cured by consuming an animal.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 4, the Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS), the Executive Director of ICS, Eric Jerry Aidoo, stated, “Heartbreak is a psychological and emotional challenge, not a biological or spiritual one that can be cured by consuming an animal”.

“There is no scientific or logical basis to the claim that eating a dog’s head provides emotional fortitude. This is a superstition that causes unnecessary harm to animals and provides a false sense of security to vulnerable women.”

“Dogs and cats are companion animals and members of the family, not food,” the statement said.

“We must move toward a more compassionate Ghana where our best friends are protected, not served on a plate under the guise of spiritual healing,” the statement said.

In related news, Eric Jerry Aidoo, was reportedly nearly lynched by some locals in the Northern Region during an anti-cat and dog meat campaign.

During a campaign aimed to educate communities on preserving dogs and cats as pets and to highlight the cruelty of killing and consuming them, some locals reportedly found the message offensive and attacked members of the organisation, forcing a temporary suspension of its nationwide sensitisation tour to review security measures.

According to the institution, the campaign is on hold, not cancelled, and reaffirmed its commitment to ending cruelty against pets.

In a statement issued, the Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) stated, “While we are relieved that Chairman Jerry is safe, the severity of this targeted violence necessitates a pause to ensure the safety of our team and to reassess our security protocols.

”We want to state clearly that the tour is not cancelled. We have only put our activities on hold,” the statement said.

The statement further added, “We will return to the road very soon to continue fighting for our innocent dogs and cats that serve as loyal family members and vital security for households across the country.

“Cats and dogs are family, not food. We will not be silenced by intimidation when the lives of these innocent animals are at stake.

“The ICS is calling on all compassionate citizens to stand with us. We are actively seeking volunteers and advocates to join our upcoming tours in the following regions:

Volta Region

Northern Region

Eastern Region

Greater Accra Region

“Our goal is to educate the public and engage with communities to shift the perspective on the consumption and treatment of this innocent pet. If you are interested in joining our movement or joining our tour, please visit our head office or contact our official line for more information and upcoming schedules.”

2026 BECE candidates being charged GH¢2,500 to cook and pay invigilators – Cynthia Morrison alleges

0

Former Member of Parliament for Agona West in the Central Region, Cynthia Morrison, has alleged that examination centres are allegedly charging schools GHC2,500 each to cook for invigilators, external invigilators, and to clean the compound in the ongoing BECE.

According to Cynthia Morrison, she received reports yesterday of some schools in the  Greater Accra Region charging GH¢2,500, GH¢1,500 and GH¢2,000 from BECE candidates.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM on May 5, 2026, Cynthia Morrison alleged, “Yesterday, I received several reports from the Greater Accra Region concerning the ongoing BECE. Some schools in Spintex are charging GH¢2,500, Mamprobi students GH¢1,500 and Abeka GH¢2,000.

“A friend at Abeka explained that the money is used to buy food, clean the school and give some to external invigilators.

“But how do you charge a student who is writing exams GH¢2,500? For what purpose?” she fumed.

She further condemned the practice, saying,  “So what at all are we teaching our children with these practices?”

In other news, John Kapi, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Head of Public Affairs, has revealed that seven Teachers have been engaged in alleged examination malpractice during the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Meanwhile, the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination began on, Monday, May 4, with over 620,000 candidates across Ghana sitting for the exams.

Soldier arrested for alleged double murder

0

Prince Krah, a soldier recently transferred to Tamale, has been arrested in connection with the deaths of a fuel tanker driver and his pregnant wife in Golf City, where both were found lifeless days after the suspected attack.

Earlier reports suggested that Prince Krah, the soldier, committed the theft after learning that Kwabena was carrying a large sum of money.

Crime Check Ghana shared more detailed information stating, “Ebenezer Kwabena, a fuel tanker driver, and his pregnant wife have been found dead in their apartment at Tema around Saki High Tension on Friday, May 1, 2026, lying in a pool of blood, while their three-year-old daughter was discovered alive in the same room after being left alone for approximately three days without food or water.

Health Ministry breaks silence on delays in the operationalisation of Weija Hospital

0

The Ministry of Health has finally broken its silence following angry residents of Weija-Gbawe who stormed the Children’s Specialist Hospital over the continued closure of the fully furnished facility.

Also, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, during the protest stated, “I would not have asked anyone to come and demonstrate or protest here, but they are here because they are feeling the pinch”.

“I have been to many facilities of this kind outside of the country, and I can tell you that this is far more advanced than many of those I have been to,” he added.

“So what have we done to merit this? Why are we making children die, all because we have failed to commission a hospital?”

Meanwhile, Accra-based CitiFM has shared Exclusive footage from inside the 120-bed Children’s Specialist Hospital in Weija, which has remained unused since its completion in 2025.

The prolonged delay in the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Specialist Hospital has become a concern among residents.

The 20-bed facility, which is projected as one of Ghana’s largest dedicated hospitals for children, was completed under the Akufo-Addo government two years ago.

Reports suggest the project was funded by the World Bank and developed under the Ministry of Health, designed to expand access to specialised paediatric healthcare and was constructed by Awerco Construction Ltd.

The Weija-Gbawe Children’s Specialist Hospital boost a neonatal intensive care unit, paediatric intensive care unit, a 120-bed ward, emergency services, and a mother’s hostel to support caregivers.

BoG loses big, but economic stability is important for ordinary citizens – Joe Jackson

0

Joe Jackson, the Dalex Finance Chief Executive Officer, has said the Bank of Ghana (BoG) reported financial losses are big, but economic stability is important for ordinary citizens.

According to Joe Jackson, the Bank of Ghana’s losses are less important than economic stability.

Joe Jackson noted that what matters most to the public is the stability of the currency and predictability in prices, rather than technical discussions around the Bank of Ghana’s losses.

He explained that while the Bank of Ghana’s losses should not be dismissed, they must be properly contextualised.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday, May 4, Mr Jackson stated, “What does it matter when the cedi goes from GHS14 to the dollar at the beginning of the year to GHS10 to the dollar at the end of the year? What matters to businesses is that they can plan better and that inflation is more predictable”.

“The loss is big, and we should look at it going forward, but let’s not overestimate how much it will affect us,” he stated.

Also, Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has clarified the over GH¢15 billion loss made by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the Bank of Ghana has not made any losses, adding that the GH¢15.6 billion loss was largely the cost of stabilisation.

He disclosed that the central bank’s financial position has been significantly influenced by the performance of the Ghana cedi.

Speaking on Newsfile on May 2, 2026, Gyamfi argued, “Issue number one: the Bank of Ghana has not made any losses. What has been described as a GH¢15.6 billion loss is largely the cost of stabilisation”.

“If the cedi had depreciated as it did previously, the Bank would have recorded revaluation gains and likely posted profits,” he noted.

He explained, “What it means is that because the cedi appreciated, foreign currency assets lost value in cedi terms, leading to what is being reported as a loss”.

Sammy Gyamfi added that without the revaluation effect, the central bank’s losses would have remained closer to the previous year’s figure of about GH¢9 billion.

The GoldBod CEO highlighted that the BoG had to mop up excess liquidity in the system, a standard central banking practice to curb rising prices.

Sammy Gyamfi added, “When there is too much money in circulation chasing fewer goods, the central bank must act to reduce that liquidity. That process comes at a cost because interest must be paid to commercial banks”.

He further refuted suggestions that alternative strategies, such as reducing production costs or taxes, would have delivered faster results in lowering inflation.

“If we had not adopted these measures, how quickly would inflation have dropped from over 23 per cent to about 3.4 per cent?” he questioned.

“The Bank of Ghana should be commended, not criticised,” Sammy Gyamfi added.

However, the Minority in Parliament has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

The true operating loss of the Bank of Ghana for the year 2025 is GH¢34.9”, he remarked.

Ghanaian man in viral South Africa xenophobia video attack back home

0

Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian man in a viral South African xenophobia video attack, has been evacuated back home by the Government of Ghana.

In a post shared by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, wrote, “We are delighted to welcome back home from South Africa our dear compatriot, Mr Emmanuel Akowuah Asamoah.

I commend our High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Benjamin Quarshie, for accompanying our brother all the way.

As we have already announced, Ghanaians who wish to be relocated back home should contact our High Commission to be assisted at the Government of Ghana’s expense.

The Mahama Administration values every Ghanaian life anywhere in the world, and we shall never abandon our citizens in distress. Your welfare remains our utmost priority.

I look forward to hosting Mr Asamoah when I return to Ghana later this week.

A warm Akwaaba to our cherished Ghanaian. It is well.

There is no place like home.

For God and Country”.

It will be recalled that the Minister for Foreign Affairs had announced that the Government of Ghana is relocating Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, who came after an unwarranted xenophobic attack.

According to Ablakwa, the Ghanaian man was legally living in South Africa.

The decision follows a viral street confrontation video from South Africa, which shows activist Victoria Africa, commonly known as Queen Vee and a group of locals questioning a Ghanaian man and other African migrants about their travel documents.

According to Victoria Africa, South Africans are tired of other African countries migrating to their country and refusing to fix their own countries.

Victoria Africa in the viral video stated, “We are fixing this continent. This thing of you guys moving from one country to another is no longer working. We don’t want this as African people anymore. We are tired of seeing African migrants moving all over the world, refusing to fix their own countries. Now we are making it very clear to you guys, we don’t want you here. We want you to fix your countries.

“You came here with a travelling document. We came with a passport. You know that you are a visitor, but you decided to come and integrate into our communities. You know very well that what you have done is wrong. We can come to Ghana and do what you do now.”

The Ghanaian man was then asked to show his passport. After he showed them the document, which was a “certified copy” of his passport, they accused him of buying it from a corrupt South African official.

Another man asked the Ghanaian man, “Who is the police officer that you are bribing to certify these things for you… Let me tell you, you know, by law, as an immigrant, you’re not allowed to certify your passport… Why do you certify your passport in a foreign land? Let’s just start there. Why do you certify your passport in a foreign land?”.

The man explained that he had a certified copy because he did not want the original one to get lost or destroyed by rain.

The South Africans kept insisting that he was in their country illegally and should leave.

The footage has triggered an intense online debate about xenophobia and migration.

“Public nudity at the Karnival Kingdom Festival an eyesore” – Catholic Bishops demand probe

0

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has demanded an immediate probe into the public nudity displayed at the Karnival Kingdom Festival.

“If you are poor, don’t think of venturing into politics” – Afenyo-Markin

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, believes that poor people should not venture into politics.

According to Afenyo-Markin, politics is about giving back to the poor and helping the vulnerable.

He disclosed that a politician must be able to raise resources, or must be resourceful.

Speaking on PeaceFM, Alexander Afenyo-Markin said, “We don’t use poverty for politics. If you are a politician, you have to give. If you are a politician, you should be able to raise resources; you must be resourceful. You must have what it takes to do politics. Because politics is a public service, you are serving the vulnerable, the needy; if you don’t have you cannot engage in politics. If you don’t have some, you must be quiet.

If you are poor, you cannot do politics; if you are into politics and you are hungry, you cannot do politics.

In politics, you are feeding the hungry, you are paying hospital bills, and politics is about gathering resources to help people. If you are poor, don’t think of venturing into politics”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Afenyo-Markin’s remarks stated, “How can u do politics if u have no money? Politics is expensive. In fact, Democracy nankasa is very expensive”.

A netizen added, “You have to make life of the people easy by doing the right things not the rubbish he’s saying about being rich. Politicians in Ghana enter politics to get rich because all they do is steal and lie”.

“So, only rich people fit enter politics? Funny how poor masses dey vote them in then! This thinking lock ordinary Ghanaians comot from their own democracy. Ɛnyɛ yie”, one X user added.

A netizen argued, “People who run NGOs usually thrive in politics.  It applies to people in third world countries.  You don’t have to be rich to enter politics in the Western world”.

In other news, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has blown an alarm alleging that the Mahama-led government has been awarding juiciest contracts to foreign entities rather than the indigenous Ghanaian companies.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the Mahama government must prioritise local businesses instead of foreigners.

The minority leader questioned the pattern of contract allocations, adding that a review of parliamentary records details how some of the most lucrative state contracts are being handed to foreign firms.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on April 6, 2026, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin said, “Look, when this government came into office, I won’t list them, but go to Parliament, look at the order paper. The juiciest contracts are going to foreigners. I won’t mention now… but look at the order papers from day one”.

“No one has said anything, and nobody sees anything wrong. I am not saying that a Ghanaian business must not be subjected to any scrutiny, but it is quite concerning that when a Ghanaian business is succeeding, we are up in arms against how it’s succeeding. So, we have to look at it properly,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin added, “Mr President, I would beg of you, look critically at every single contract that gets out there and at least make sure, if not all, it should be 50-50. Mr President, we must be deliberate. Get all the ministers to be deliberate”.

“And it’s not just being a Ghanaian company, but an indigenous-owned Ghanaian company. You can have a Ghanaian company, foreign-owned. By the way, I’m not against a foreigner investing in Ghana. I am also not against foreign investment in Ghana. I am not anti-foreign investor, but what I’m saying is that we must grow our own,” he clarified.

Watch interior of the 120-bed Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital, unused since its completion in 2025

Accra-based CitiFM has shared Exclusive footage from inside the 120-bed Weija Children’s Specialist Hospital, which has remained unused since its completion in 2025.

The prolonged delay in the operationalisation of Weija-Gbawe Children’s Specialist Hospital has become a concern among residents.

Meanwhile, Residents of Weija-Gbawe have staged a demonstration over the continued closure of a fully furnished children’s specialist hospital.

Demonstrators were seen with placards which read,  “Weija Gbawe deserves healthcare, not delays” and “No excuses, commission the Weija Gbawe children’s hospital,”

Earlier, before the protest, Jerry Ahmed Shaib had raised concerns over the delay of the operationalisation of the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib highlighted that the Gbawe Children’s Hospital facility was initiated by the Akufo-Addo government and virtually completed before his exit.

Speaking at a press conference held at the facility on Saturday, March 28, 2026, Jerry Ahmed Shaib stated, “Hon. Minister of Health and all those with healthcare responsibilities, take note that the Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital, an important facility initiated by the Akufo-Addo government and virtually completed before his exit, is a world-class, state-of-the-art facility ready to serve.

“I had a call from the Director of Infrastructure at the Ministry of Health that this hospital was to be commissioned around March 17; today, the hospital is still not operational.

“When children require specialised care, they have to be rushed to the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital. We expect the Minister of Health to take the necessary steps to ensure the commissioning of this facility within the shortest possible time, for the benefit of the people of Weija-Gbawe,” he said.

I was promised a job – Ghanaian man reveals how he ended up fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war

0

A Ghanaian man has shared a harrowing experience of how he was tricked into joining the Russian military to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to a report, the Ghanaian man revealed that he was promised a job when he was recruited by an agent in Dubai.

He explained, “In his search for better opportunities, he accepted the offer, completed the required steps, and eventually travelled to Moscow, the capital of Russia.”

The Ghanaian man detailed that, upon arriving at a military camp, he discovered that he was actually expected to join the military and participate in the ongoing war.

He further revealed that “he was not alone” in this ordeal, as he was among hundreds of Africans who had been similarly deceived.

In related news, the European Union has cautioned Ghanaians against being lured into the Russia-Ukraine War, which has nothing to do with them.

According to the European Union, the conflict does not concern Ghana and should not involve its citizens.

The High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, condemned the practice, describing Russia’s recruitment of Africans as unethical.

Speaking at the signing of a security and defence partnership between the EU and Ghana on Tuesday, March 24, Kaja Kallas stated, “Russia’s war is a threat to Europe and also has consequences beyond its borders, including in Ghana.

Beyond Russia’s unethical recruitment of African nationals, it places economic hardship on citizens. Your people should not be lured into a war that is not theirs,” Kallas said.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that at least 55 Ghanaians have been killed fighting in the war in Russia-Ukraine war, with two others currently being held as prisoners of war.

According to Ablakwa, the figures were disclosed to him during high-level talks in Kyiv between Ghanaian officials and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha.

He detailed that Ukrainian authorities have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Ablakwa detailed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022, with an estimated 55 having been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war.

In a post shared on X, Ablakwa wrote, “During our engagements and media briefing, Ukrainian authorities revealed that from their credible intelligence gathering, they have documented 1,780 Africans from 36 countries who have been lured by criminal trafficking networks to join the war against Ukraine.

Even more depressing and frightening, we were informed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into battle since 2022 for which an estimated 55 have been killed and 2 captured as prisoners of war”.

He further added, “As a responsible government, we cannot turn a blind eye to these heartbreaking statistics. These are not just numbers; they represent human lives, the hope of many Ghanaian families and our nation.

That is why the government is determined to raise awareness and embark on intensive public education so that our youth will be protected.

The Mahama Administration is committed to tracking and dismantling all dark web illegal recruitment schemes operating within our jurisdiction. This is not our war and we cannot allow our youth to become human shields for others.

It is noteworthy that our two captured compatriots spoke out passionately about the grave dangers during my visit and cautioned the youth not to be tempted, regardless of the monetary enticements — I expect all our young people to listen to them”.

Men who earn GH¢3,000 a month do not qualify to be in a relationship – Prophet

Prophet Johnson Adu Boahen the General Overseer of Christ Revival Baptist Church, has said men who earn GH¢3,000 a month do not qualify to be in a relationship.

According to Prophet Johnson Adu Boahen, a man who rents and washes clothes with their hands does not qualify to be in a relationship.

Speaking to his church congregation, Prophet Johnson Adu Boahen stated, “A man who earns GH¢3,000 a month and is in a relationship, do you want to live successful live? If you see Kwame Despite, Dr Kwaku Oteng and Ibrahim Mahama chasing women, you are also chasing them.

You don’t think of yourself, someone who rents. When you rent, is due you have pressure, and you are in a relationship, and wash clothes with their hands…”

Some Ghanaians reacting to Prophet Johnson Adu Boahen’s remarks stated, “These so-called men of God can be frustrating. God created all of us, so how do some claim big titles like pastor yet speak such nonsense from the pulpit? Is that what Jesus did when His Father sent Him to earth? Even in 2026, people still sit for hours listening to this and then pay tithes to them. It just doesn’t make sense”.

A netizen added, “This in a church, what happened to preaching Christ

There’s no love in the church; actually rather be at home because this is also peer pressure”.

“But he carry 300ghs tithe come aa you go take😂. Illiteracy really worries Ghana. Someone who probably feeds on these tithes is now attacking the tithe payer”, one X user noted.

One X user added, “No pastor is wiser than you.

If you don’t ignore them and take decisions for yourself, they will decide for you.

I won’t even waste my time coming and sitting there to listen to you.

I don’t care about heaven and hell

Ghana is already a hell”.

In related news, Rev Takal Mordecai of Petra International Church, Adenta, has boldly declared that any man who gives a GH¢10 or GH¢20 offering is not ready for marriage.

The Pastor told his female congregants not to marry any man who gives GH¢10 or GH¢20 as an offering to God.

He further highlighted that if the man can be stingy with God, what will he do with his female companion?

Speaking in a viral video shared on X by SIKAOFFICIAL, the Pastor stated, “Any boy who gives an offering of GH¢10 or GH¢20 is not ready for marriage, I am telling you. He is not ready; his finances are zero. Don’t marry him. If a man can be stingy with God, what of you?

Some of you don’t accept reality, a guy who cannot thank God, you think he would appreciate you? He does not appreciate God will he appreciate you? Who do you think you are?”

Nobody will say he loves you without giving to you, anything that loves you gifts to you, he does have? Gifts do not have to be expensive”.

Court orders psychiatric evaluation for man who stole a Police armoured vehicle

0

The Kwadaso Circuit Court in Kumasi has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a 26-year-old man accused of stealing a police armoured vehicle.

It will be recalled that the Ghana Police Service had arrested a young man for allegedly attempting to steal a police armoured vehicle at Nkawie Market in a brazen daylight incident.

The young man has been identified as Ebenezer Frimpong.

Reports suggest the man stole the Ghana Police Service armoured vehicle at Nkawie Market after the driver briefly stepped out, leaving the engine running.

He drove off but was later pursued and arrested near Mim, with the vehicle successfully recovered.

A post by UTV Ghana stated, “Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has arrested a young man, Ebenezer Frimpong, for allegedly attempting to steal a police armoured vehicle at Nkawie Market in a brazen daytime incident.

The suspect is said to have taken advantage of a brief lapse in security after the police driver reportedly stepped out to purchase medication, leaving the engine of the vehicle running”.

In court, His Honour Jephtha Appau, on Monday, May 4, 2026, did not assign any reason for the order.

Earlier, Ebenezer Frimpong pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act.

He later urged the judge to use his connections to help him enlist in the Ghana Police Service when he made his first appearance in court.

The suspect also appealed for leniency as his charges were read for the first time in court.

Reports suggest the 26-year-old unemployed resident of Antwi Agyei Nkwanta in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region was arrested on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
