56% Ghanaians believe their lives have improved compared to last year – Global InfoAnalytics

0

The Global InfoAnalytics has announced that a new national tracking poll has revealed majority of Ghanaians feel their standard of living has improved over the past year.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, 56% of respondents said their standard of living has improved compared to last year.

However, 27% reponded stated their standard of living remained unchanged, with 12% reported a decline, and 5% had no opinion.

Also, 70% of voters expressed confidence that their standard of living will improve in 2026.

The poll also revealed that 66 per cent of Ghanaians are satisfied with the 2026 budget presented by Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, with 18 per cent dissatisfied and 16 per cent neutral.

The Global InfoAnalytics poll also revealed 60% feel the government is doing enough to fight corruption.

On galamsey, 47% said the menace has not worsened under the President John Mahama administration.

The Global InfoAnalytics new national tracking is a sharp contrast to Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and Energy expert, who has claimed that under President John Dramani Mahama’s first Christmas, many Ghanaians cannot afford a fowl.

According to Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, businesses in the market have been very slow.

He argued that inflation, whether it is 6 per cent or 24 percent the reality is that prices are still high.

Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, speaking on the current state of the Ghanaian economy, stated, “Things are very tough. When you go to the market, you realise that business is very slow. The government says the economy is doing well and that there is no hardship, but that is not the situation on the ground,” he said.

“They talk about inflation, whether it is 6 per cent or 24 percent but inflation is inflation. The reality is that prices are still high,” he stated.

“I thought by now kenkey would be selling at two cedis, but it is still five cedis. This is the first Christmas under this government, yet some people cannot even afford to buy a fowl. We are not feeling the reset agenda. Things are still hard,” he added.

Also, Eugene Boakye Antwi, a former Member of Parliament for Subin, has said the John Mahama-led government’s stabilisation of the cedi to the dollar and Ghana’s inflation are all artificial.

According to Eugene Boakye Antwi, there is no policy driving the stabilisation of the cedi to the dollar, and Ghana’s inflation.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, Eugene Boakye Antwi stated, “The dollar is stable, which is good. Inflation is under control. But it’s all because these are, these are all artificial stuff because there’s no policy driving it, there’s no policy behind it, if you know what I mean”.

“The government has been smart to find a way, right, to stabilise the dollar. It’s allowing the good people of this country to bring in imports, you know, with a very stable dollar. It helps them to plan. But it all remains to be seen sometime next year, if indeed there is some kind of master plan that is being used by this government to hold the city, to hold inflation, and what have you”, he added.

He further accused the Mahama government of owing billions of cedis to contractors and stakeholders.

“And you know, contractors are owed, left, right, and centre”, he said.

The former Subin MP lamented, “Inflation is good, it’s very low, and all the rest of it. But I keep saying the government owes billions, billions to contractors, to stakeholders. And once these monies are outstanding, have not been fully paid, you don’t know, we can’t really tell the shift of the economy.

“But once it’s paid into a system, you’ll see movements here and there. I think we will then see if the dollar is really stable or is going to go up again against the dollar. But as it stands, you know, so far I would say so good,” he added.

“I took Ibrahim Mahama to court to pay GHS14m to the state” – Kennedy Agyapong

0

A throwback video of Kennedy Agyapong has surfaced on social media, with the NPP presidential aspirant boldly revealing how he took businessman Ibrahim Mahama to court to pay the state some 14 million cedis in 2017.

Back in 2017, then Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, had, for several weeks, alleged that Mr Mahama issued dud cheques to the Customs Division of the GRA.

He further led a media crusade, agitating that EOCO should investigate Mr Ibrahim.

Ibrahim Mahama was later ordered to pay approximately GH¢13 million in import duties and interest after issuing dud cheques.

According to reports, payments were made in May 2017, though the amount is often rounded to GH¢14 million.

In Ghanaian laws, it is an offence to issue a cheque, knowing very well that you do not have sufficient funds in your account.

Appearing in an exclusive interview on TV3 New Day, Kennedy Agyapong was asked why he had not jailed Ibrahim Mahama as he had promised to do.

According to Ken Agyapong, Mahama and his brother went behind the big Chiefs to beg him not to jail his brother.

He recounted that Ibrahim Mahama was not paying import duties on machines he was clearing from the port because his brother was president at the time.

Speaking on TV3 New Day, he explained, “He is a friend, but I always speak the truth; the level of dishonesty in our culture is why we have to change some of our culture.

I took Ibrahim to court, and he paid GHS14 million. Do you remember? You know he was not paying duties on machines that were being cleared from the port, even on Sundays, because his brother was the president.

I challenged him and gave evidence, and Ibrahim Mahama went to court to pay 14 million. So, what have I done to the nation, and he went out there begging, so I am surprised that President Mahama is saying that I have not been able to jail his brother when they went behind big chiefs to come and beg for him”.

Some netizens reacting to the news stated, “Ken Agyapong is lying here,  he didn’t take Ibrahim Mahama to court, it was EOCO which investigated him in 2017 and found he issued dud cheques which failed. He agreed with the GRA and paid 12m cedis on his mining equipment that he didn’t pay duties on”.

“But, you went begging when you were fine by an American court?”, a netizen added.

“This interview and the comments section show the hypocrisy of Ghanaians in shielding the crimes of persons we like. Somebody wrote so what”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “Who are you to jail anyone? What position did you occupy in that government to have the power to jail anyone? This one who said if he were president, he would ask police to beat up journalists, is the one wanting to be president today”

An X user added, “Rich man no dey pay duty..but poor people have their assets siezed if Dem no meet deadline for port”.

“I will never support the NDC till I die, but I have been an NPP member” – Dormaahene

0

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, the Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, has boldly stated he would never support the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) until his death.

Speaking in a viral video, the Dormaahene revealed he had been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before serving as a Court of Appeal judge.

He refuted claims of being a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, arguing that he only believes in the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.

The Dormaahene stated, “I will never support the NDC. I am not affiliated with the NDC, and I will not support them till I die. But I have been an NPP member before. I joined them before I became a judge.

The way President Mahama is governing the country, anyone who says it is not in the right direction is a liar,” he said.

The Dormaahene further highlighted the Mahama government’s handling of the cedi stabilisation to the US dollar.

In related news, the Dormaahene has boldly stated he would take legal action if AG finds no corruption surrounding the National Cathedral.

The Dormahene issued a stern warning against any attempt to downplay concerns surrounding the National Cathedral.

He stressed that allegations of wrongdoing must be subjected to proper legal scrutiny.

According to him, the amount of money spent on the National Cathedral project is mind-blowing.

Speaking during President Mahama’s sod-cutting ceremony to begin the construction of major roads under the government’s ‘Big Push’ programme on Sunday, December 21, 2025, the Dormahene stated, “One of the main reasons why Ghanaians voted for you is corruption. We have seen this with the National Cathedral; the amount of money spent on that project is mind-blowing. Some of us thought it was 56 million dollars, only to find out later that it was 96 or 97 million dollars”.

“Should the Attorney General come out to say there is no issue of corruption surrounding this project, truth be told, I would take legal action against whoever is responsible. Mr President, let no one convince you that there are no issues with it. Anyone found to have defaulted must face prosecution under the law,” he added.

Additionally, the Dormaahene has praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his work in the Bawku mediation.

He noted that the Asantehene’s Bawku mediation work deserves commendation, as the task was a difficult one.

He further cautioned the Ghanaian public against speaking negatively or belittling the mediation efforts.

According to the Dormaahene, the Asantehene deserves commendation for achieving a positive outcome.

Speaking to his subject in a viral video shared on social media, the Dormaahene cautioned, “The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, just recently, President Akufo-Addo gave him a task, and President Mahama also asked him to continue. Some people are speaking against the work, some are Chiefs, MPs, and even the MPs’ comments. I thought it was not true because with social media, everyone can say anything”.

“I am pleading with everyone that the mediation efforts carried out by the Asantehene, in Bawku was a difficult one and deserve commendation, given the difficulty of the task he undertook, and there is no criticism needed; anyone engaging in that should desist from it”, he added.

Eugene Boakye Antwi further stated that 2025 has not been a very good year as an NPP politician.

According to Eugene Boakye Antwi, 2025 has not been a good year, as there was a change of government.

He explained, “It’s been a not-so-good year because one, there was a change of government. The government had to put its team in place to work. The ministers, the agency heads, the MMDCS, the ambassadors, I mean, we are waiting to see”.

“I’ve just told them earlier that it will be unfair to assess any government. I’ve been a member of the executive before as a deputy minister from 2017 to 2021. And it wouldn’t be fair to assess any government within its first year or even the second year.

I would say next year, around this time, will give us a better hang of what, where the government intends to take the country”, he said.

Eugene Boakye Antwi further stressed that Ghana is still depending on IMF support. “But as it stands, we are an IMF economy. There isn’t much in the system for the government to work on or to work with.”

Meanwhile, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, also an NPP member and Energy expert, has claimed that under President John Mahama’s First Christmas, many Ghanaians cannot afford a fowl.

Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, speaking on the current state of the Ghanaian economy, stated, “Things are very tough. When you go to the market, you realise that business is very slow. Watch Finance Minister receives a hero’s welcome home

0

Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has received a heroic welcome upon his return to his constituency during the festive period.

In a viral video shared on X, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson was spotted in his constituency, Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam.

He was spotted in an open vehicle while he waved and acknowledged cheers from his constituents.

In related news, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has boldly declared that Ghana is back and open for business.

According to Ato Forson, the turnaround within 10 months of the Mahama administration is due to the resilience of the Ghanaian people and the government’s leadership.

The Finance Minister boldly told international partners and investors that Ghana has regained its economic stability.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has told managers of Ghana’s currency to continue whatever they are doing, as the cedi regains respect both locally and internationally.

According to John Mahama, Ghanaians are grateful to the Bank of Ghana and the Finance Ministry for their management of the cedi.

Mahama made this known at the Cedi@60 commemoration by the Bank of Ghana in Accra, themed “Sovereignty, Stability, and Economic Resilience”.

Speaking at the event, John Mahama stated, “I just want to say that the governor and all your team at the BoG, the Ministry of Finance, Ghanaians are grateful to you for the management of our currency”.

“I think that a lot of respect has returned to our currency. And it’s my hope that you will keep whatever you are doing to make sure that we don’t have excess liquidity, all those words you people have; open market operations, whatever, those your technical jargons are,” President Mahama noted.

He further urged the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry to continue their work in stabilising the cedi, “Whatever you are doing, continue doing so, so that the cedi is respected,” he said.

Also, Isaac Adongo, the Chairman of the Finance Committee, has said that if the Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, stays on his current path, he does not see the next president going beyond him.

According to Isaac Adongo, Ato Forson will win the next election for the NDC if he keeps focus as he had started.

Speaking on GHOne, Isaac Adongo explained, “Privately, I told him (Ato Forson). I said if you continue on the path that you are continuing, I don’t see the next president beyond you. I told him personally because he has done the things that he has done in this short period, and don’t forget that he has the full backing of His Excellency [Mahama].

“If you have a finance minister who doesn’t have the backing of the president, he will be a failure because there are certain difficult decisions that you take that even your colleagues are not comfortable with, but that is what is required to swallow the bitter pill and heal”.

He continued, “I’m not by this saying that Ato Forson wants to contest for president, but it is just to let him understand how I situate the work that he has done. He’s a young man; I don’t think he may even be having that contemplation.

But just to let him understand that we are sitting back, we are impressed with the work that he’s done and that he should keep the focus. And if he keeps the focus, he will win the next election for the NDC. There’s no two ways about that. And I do believe that his biggest strength was placing Ghana first,” he explained.

Kwaku Azar highlighted that Ken Ofori-Atta has been charged together with several others, which is the textbook opposite of a political witch-hunt.

He explained that political prosecutions isolate political opponents and do not bundle politicians and private actors into an alleged wrongdoing.

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare quizzed Ofori-Atta’s ‘top-notch’ US lawyer on what exactly is ‘political’ in his case, being pursued by a Special Prosecutor appointed by the government he was a part of.

In a Facebook post on December 24, 2025, he wrote, “On Christmas Eve, we are being told that Oga is “fully committed to complying with the laws of Ghana” while remaining outside the jurisdiction, sidestepping lawful processes, and subcontracting accountability to BBC interviews.

That alone would be funny if it weren’t tragic. Accountability is not a podcast. It requires presence, process, and submission to jurisdiction.

Then comes the punchline: “political motivation.”

Political by whom?

The case is not being driven by an opposition Attorney-General or a new government seeking revenge.

It is being pursued by a Special Prosecutor appointed by the previous government.

You are charged together with several others, including private individuals and entities, on allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and violations of public revenue and procurement procedures.

That is the textbook opposite of a political witch-hunt. Political prosecutions isolate political opponents; they do not bundle politicians and private actors into the same factual matrix of alleged wrongdoing.

When a case is framed around procurement structures, revenue flows, contracts, and institutional processes, and sweeps in actors without political profiles, the claim of persecution starts to look less like analysis and more like theatre.

Meanwhile, the former President, former Vice-President, and a long list of ministers from the same administration are freely roaming the country, giving interviews, attending events, living openly. None claims persecution. None is abroad pleading victimhood.

So what exactly is “political” here?

It seems more of a fallback slogan than a serious argument.

You cannot be selectively absent, cry foul from overseas, and still demand the moral high ground.

If the process is defective, the Constitution provides a remedy: come home, go to court, and challenge it. Political motivation is not proven by press releases and foreign interviews; it is tested through lawful engagement.

On Christmas Eve, this story belongs where it fits best: comedy”.

His post follows, Enayat Qasimi, who claimed his client is fully committed to the laws of Ghana and is fully committed to answering for anything he did as Ghana’s finance minister.

He, however, claimed the case against his client is politically motivated and not being given the rights that he’s guaranteed under Ghanaian law.

Speaking during an interview with the BBC shared on YouTube on December 24, 2025, Enayat Qasimi said, He’s committed to fully complying with the laws of Ghana, and he’s fully committed to answering for anything that he did when he was Finance Minister. There’s absolutely no question about that. The question is, is he being given the rights that he’s guaranteed under Ghanaian law? He’s not. He’s never been”.

“Ofori-Atta was receiving treatment in the US. They knew this all along. There was no purpose for issuing the red notice, but they went ahead and issued it,” he said.

“Let’s not wash our dirty linen in public” – Afenyo-Markin to NPP members

0

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faithful not to wash their dirty linen in public.

The minority leader noted that everyone is free to support anyone they believe can lead the party to win the 2028 elections.

Afenyo-Markin is quoted by GHOne to have said, “We (NPP) are free to support anyone we believe can lead us to win in 2008, but let’s not wash our dirty linen in public”.

Also, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in his Christmas message to party supporters, urged them to let their actions prove we’re ready for power.

He stated, “My dear patriots, the time for sympathy has passed, and the time for action has now arrived,” he said.

“As a party, we should have learned an important lesson, which is that unity is worth fighting for and sacrificing for. The pursuit of unity leads to victory. These lessons must now guide our conduct, choices and conversations,” he stated.

He said, “Time after time, observers have questioned whether our party is ready for power. Let us prove to them that we have an answer, and that answer is a resounding yes — not yes by mouth, but through our acts and conduct”.

“Therefore, as we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer primaries, let us treat our party and its traditions as sacred. What our forebearers put together with their sweat and blood, let no party member put asunder,” he added.

Meanwhile, A latest poll by the Global Info Analytics in December 2025 has revealed that the former Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, has gained huge momentum in the NPP presidential race.

According to the Global Info Analytics, Kennedy Agyapong has moved from 18 per cent to 31 per cent in the NPP race.

However, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, remains in the lead with 45% in December.

The poll revealed that Bawumia led the race with 45 per cent, Ken Agyapong with 31 per cent, with 11 per cent undisclosed and 9 per cent undecided.

The survey, which was conducted through a random computer-assisted telephone interview of about 3000 delegates, revealed Ken Agyapong made 13% gains on his November output, while Dr Bawumia moved closer to the 50% by 2 per cent.

With a little over a month to the NPP primary, the former Vice President will require at least 6% of the undecided votes.

However, for Kennedy Agyapong to clinch victory, he will be required to secure nearly all the 19 plus percent undecided and undisclosed votes.

An earlier poll by Global Info Analytics revealed that Dr Bawumia secured 47 per cent of delegate support and is the clear front-runner ahead of the NPP’s primaries.

Dr Bawumia continues to enjoy the confidence of nearly half of the delegates surveyed.

Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central legislator, emerged second with 17 per cent of delegates’ support.

Dr Bryan Acheampong secured only 3 per cent of delegates’ votes, while Dr Yaw Adutwum and Ing Kwabena Agyapong secured 1 per cent of delegates’ votes respectively.

However, the poll revealed that a significant number of delegates, 27 per cent, remain undecided.

Also, the poll revealed  57 per cent of Ghanaians prefer former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next general election.

“Continue talking, bla-bla-bla, you will destroy your own work” – Anyidoho warns Prof Prempeh

0

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has cautioned the Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, following his constant media engagements after submitting the CRC report to President Mahama.

Mr Anyidoho claimed that Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh’s constant media engagement will destroy his own work.

According to Koku Anyidoho, Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh has no business engaging in extensive public commentary, arguing that the more he talks, the more he will sound like a very partisan politician.

Koku Anyidoho, responding to the CRC Chairman’s recent interview, wrote, “If you don’t keep quiet and continue talking “bla-bla-bla”, you will destroy your own work ooo HKP. You have finished your work; allow the Government’s White Paper to speak for itself. Prof Fiadzo did not speak the way you are speaking when he chaired the First CRC. The more you speak; the more you will sound like a very partisan politician”.

Koku Anyidoho further reminded Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh that he is not the first person to chair a Constitutional Review Committee (CRC).

He noted that when Prof Albert Fiadzo chaired the CRC under the late President Atta-Mills, there was no media blitz.

In a separate post Koku Anyidoho stated, “HKP; you are NOT the first person to have Chaired a CRC.  Prof Albert Fiadzo did it before you under President Atta-Mills. You have finished your work; why all this media blitz as if what you have done is cast in iron?  Why don’t you just keep quiet and wait for the Government White Paper? Chill!!!!”

Meanwhile, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the NPP, has announced that the party has established a committee to examine the Constitutional Review Committee(CRC) proposals submitted to President John Mahama.

He added, “If someone gives you such honour, at least give him that respect, whether he is alive or dead. I even wrote on my Facebook page that if there is a second chance, my brother should come and see what is happening behind him after his death”.

“After the intercession, God has given us some time to build more arks in addition to the tent that will contain all of us, so tomorrow nobody should rush to any location. I am not selling tickets, I am not taking money from anyone, so please stay home, enjoy yourself, “he said.

“Unprecedented devastation” – Cadman Mills tackles Sammy Gyamfi over GoldBod’s $10bn achievements

0

Cadman Mills, an Economist and brother of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills, has tackled Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Sammy Gyamfi, in a post on social media, highlighted the achievement of the GoldBod by surpassing its 2025 small-scale gold export target.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the Goldbod has generated over $10 billion in foreign exchange for the country.

He described it as an “unprecedented” achievement for Ghana.

In a post Sammy Gyamfi wrote, “Yesterday, the Ghana Gold Board surpassed its 2025 small-scale gold export target of 100 tons, generating over $10 billion dollars in foreign exchange for the country. Unprecedented,” he posted.

In a sharp rebuttal, also stressed the unprecedented devastation of Ghana’s waterbodies and environment by small-scale miners.

He further urged Sammy Gyamfi to stop touting GoldBod’s achievements.

Cadman Mills recognised that public agitation over galamsey has quietened in recent months but cautioned against interpreting the silence as relief or approval.

Cadman Mills, in a post on X in reply to Sammy Gyamfi’s statement, wrote, “AND UNPRECEDENTED DEVASTATION OF OUR WATERBODIES AND ENVIRONMENT.  The clamour over small-scale mining may have died down somewhat in recognition of the government’s good faith (but still wanting) attempts to deal with Galamsey.

However, our deep anxieties remain.  SO PLEASE STOP REMINDING US OF THE LURKING THREAT TO OUR VERY SURVIVAL.   STOP TOUTING THE “UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENTS” OF THE GOLDBOD!!  They ring very hollow”.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, some months ago, clarified that the Goldbod is not in the market buying galamsey gold.

The CEO explained that licensed private individuals make the purchases of gold, not GoldBod.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Sammy Gyamfi explained, “To create the impression that nobody was buying galamsey gold and all of a sudden GoldBod is now giving it a market is clearly wrong”.

“There has always been a market for gold anywhere in the world, including Ghana. Have we ever woken up to any news that there is stranded gold in Ghana? There’s always demand,” he said.

He detailed, “Gold Board itself is not on the market buying gold. These licensed buyers are not stationed at mining sites. They sit in their offices, mostly in district and regional capitals, and buy gold brought to them. They have no technology or system to tell whether the gold was mined responsibly or not”.

“It is this five-month-old corporation called Gold Board that has now been given the mandate to find a solution to that problem. You think we can find a solution in five months to a problem that has existed for decades?” he asked.

Sammy Gyamfi, however, clarified that the Goldbod was established to promote environmentally friendly mining practices.

Rival Mamprusi Chief Seidu Abagre removed from Bawku by GAF

0

The Ministry of the Interior, in a brief statement, has announced that personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre, the rival Mamprusi chief, from Bawku in the Upper East Region.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, this follows recommendations contained in the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II mediation report.

The Interior Ministry statement read, “This afternoon, personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair.

Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe in the care of the security agencies”.

It will be recalled that the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in his presentation of the final Bawku mediation report, has recommended that the Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri, accept Asigri Azoka as the Chief of Bawku and the head of the Kusasi Traditional Area.

The Otumfuo recommended that Seidu Abagre, who was recently installed by the Mamprusi side as a rival chief to the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, should be recalled to Nalerigu.

According to the Otunfuo, Seidu Abagre, in his recommendation, must be recalled to Nalerigu and reassigned to perform a different traditional role at the Palace of the Nayiri in Nalerigu, or if he chooses to stay in Bawku, he should stay as an ordinary citizen.

Speaking during the presentation of the mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on December 16, 2025, stated, “The final resolution of the Bawku Matters requires that Mr Seidu Abagre be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to be reassigned to play another traditional role at the Palace of the Nayiri, assisted by the State.

Alternatively, he may choose to stay in Bawku as an ordinary citizen of the community but not to pose as Bawku Naba”.

He added, “I recommend that my brother, the Nayiri, accept Asigri Abugrago Azoka as the Chief of Bawku and the head of the Kusasi Traditional Area”.

Also, the government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, has approved the Bawku mediation report by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In an official statement released by Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that the government has accepted all recommendations in the report.

According to the statement, the report provides a comprehensive, fact-based, and forward-looking roadmap.

President Mahama has also directed the establishment of a One Billion Ghana Cedi (GHS 1,000,000,000) Bawku Revitalisation Fund.

The fund is expected to be disbursed from 2026 to 2028 and aims to rebuild critical infrastructure to restore Bawku as an economic hub in Northern Ghana.

“I am not a prophet of doom, but EC Chair and deputies will go” – Governance expert

0

A governance expert, Dr Richard Fiadomor, has boldly stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, and her deputies would be sacked.

According to Dr Richard Fiadomor,  he is not a prophet of doom, but EC Chair and deputies will go.

Dr Richard Fiadomor endorsed the Constitution Review Committee’s (CRC) proposal to introduce fixed tenures for EC chairpersons.

He further noted that the EC has been compromised over the years by the NDC and NPP by appointing their preferred individuals.

Speaking during an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Dr Richard Fiadomor stated, “The situation where EC chairpersons were appointed and expected to be out of office after retirement was problematic, and that was why we saw the flimsy excuses given for the removal of Charlotte Osei.

“As we speak, there are petitions pending for the removal of the current EC chair and their deputies. I am not a prophet of doom, but they will go. With this system, every government that comes in has that period to stay in power and while exiting, they exit with the EC Chairs to prevent all these frivolous allegations from being remembered.

“Another benefit is that when there is an EC Chair who has some years before a new government takes over, the person may not get any form of renewal from the government, and they will think twice before taking any action in removing them.”

Also, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated, majority of Ghanaians want the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa and deputies gone.

The NDC General Secretary backed calls for the removal of Jean Mensa and her deputies from office, arguing that public opinion would overwhelmingly support the removal of EC officials if an independent assessment were conducted.

According to Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, calls for accountability are not driven by party executives but by the collective will of the Ghanaian people.

Speaking on JoyNews on December 17, 2025, Fifi Kwetey stated, “I’m not going to jump the gun. I want to say that if the petitions have been submitted, let the due process be followed”.

“For me, that’s the biggest crime that can ever be committed. Any group that supervises that has clearly no reason to remain in office. That’s the biggest crime you can commit in any democracy to take away the right of people from being represented.

“So, it’s not so much about what I want, it’s about what I think is wrong,” he indicated.

He added, “If you could commission an independent survey to gain the sentiment of the people of Ghana, I believe that a vast majority of Ghanaians would want them gone too”.

“So, I don’t think it’s anything to do with a General Secretary or the National Chairman. I think the people of Ghana would want them gone too,” Fifi Kwetey argued.

I am not unhappy with my appointment as Education Minister – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has refuted claims that he is unhappy with President Mahama appointing him to head the Education Ministry.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, he is fully prepared for the challenges facing the Education sector.

He stressed that his appointment as Education Minister was a thoughtful decision by President John Dramani Mahama, following wide consultations.

He noted that his appointment aims at driving a reset of Ghana’s education system.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, December 24, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “Not at all, I’m sure President Mahama widely consulted in taking me to the Education Ministry, probably to help reset the education sector, which undoubtedly faces enormous challenges”.

He highlighted that Ghana’s education system faces deep-rooted problems, “From Kindergarten to Primary Junior High School to Secondary Education, there are significant challenges and problems that need to be dealt with head-on,” he stated.

The Education Minister added, “I’m sure he trusted my judgment in that respect, I have not disappointed in the last one year and I shall not”.

“We will review Ghana’s education generally in order that we will produce competencies that can withstand the 21st century,” he noted.

“Therefore we intend to work to equip Ghanaians with the 21st century skills, not just knowledge, but critical and analytical minds to contribute to the development of our country and global affairs,” Mr Iddrisu added.

Still on Education, Haruna Iddrisu has rejected claims that the John Mahama government is responsible for the poor  2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) performance.

The Education Minister asserted that the poor. WASSCE performance cannot be attributed to the government.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, the poor result is a wake-up call for a comprehensive assessment of secondary education.

Speaking during the inauguration of the governing councils of four Colleges of Education, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “In Ghana, when students perform well, we credit the students. When they fail, we blame the Minister. I refuse to accept that the government of President Mahama, the Ministry of Education, or the assessment body is responsible for this poor performance”.

“Many institutions, from many years ago till yesterday, are still operating with the same infrastructure. Over the years, not a single dormitory or building has been added to their facilities,” he said.

“We intend to convert 30 Category C schools to Category B, 10 Category B schools to Category A, and expand infrastructure in all Category A schools,” he said.

He further revealed that the Mahama government has secured 200 million from the World Bank to end the double-track system in the SHSs.

Ghana’s economy under the Akufo-Addo gov’t went into an abyss – Haruna Iddrisu

0

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has said Ghana’s economy under the Akufo-Addo gov’t went into an abyss.

The Education Minister stressed that the Akufo-Addo administration caused long-term damage to Ghana’s economy.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana’s economic challenges deepened significantly in 2022.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Haruna Iddrisu stated, “The Akufo-Addo government did long-term damage to the economy. If you want to do an assessment from 2022, the economy of Ghana went into an abyss. It will take some time to redress the structural imbalance and some of the problems visited on the Ghanaian economy”.

“Not just COVID-19, but you have an economy where inflation was 54 per cent, coming down to 23 per cent. You have an exchange rate regime of a dollar to the cedi between GH¢16. That is unacceptable; it increased the cost of doing business and crushed the private sector,” Mr Iddrisu said.

He added, “The private sector is more or less experiencing a rebirth of opportunity with the return of President John Dramani Mahama. That is part of the gains of the Reset Agenda. They are now beginning to find their feet and to make contributions to the sustainable development of the country”.

Meanwhile, former President John Agyekum Kufuor has vented his disappointment and frustration with the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

John Agyekum Kufuor highlighted that the Akufo-Addo government started promising in 2016, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, the government performed poorly.

According to John Agyekum Kufuor, the Akufo-Addo government, after COVID, was doing things he did not understand.

He revealed that the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. Implemented policies without consulting him.

The former President Kufuor added that Akufo-Addo’s leadership style contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

Speaking in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso, shared on X on December 6, 2025, former President Kufuor explained. “During the 2016 election, they rode on my achievements to win power, but after they came into government, things changed… They started very well, but when COVID-19 came, things began to shift. I will commend him for how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic, but afterwards, I didn’t understand many of the things they were doing.

Things like the bond market and the National Cathedral… They didn’t consult me. All I knew was that they were building it. I initially thought it was a private initiative, only to later realise they were using government resources. They even demolished the judges’ building for it, and yet they still couldn’t complete it. Also, with the PDS”, he said.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor further touched on the NPP defeat in the 2024 election, “In 2016, we won the election with a landslide victory. In the 2020 elections, there were tensions which led to a hung parliament; the president got a majority, but it was a reduced majority. Then four years later it should be that you cannot take the Ghanaian electorate for granted”.

He further advised the NPP to be united and true to themselves, adding that truth and transparency will help the party return to power.

“They should stay true to themselves. They may not all be friends, but since they are bonded by the party’s principles, when it comes to the work, we should present a united front. That is what Ghanaians want”, he added.

See how a NACOC officer, escorting Abu Trica and associates, fell from a moving vehicle

A video has emerged of an officer of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) falling from a moving vehicle while escorting Abu Trica and his associates.

In the viral video following the court proceedings on December 23, 2025, security officers were escorting the suspects back to remand out of the court premises.

The NACOC officers at the back of the pickup security vehicle, with their colleagues, fell off the car after losing their balance on top of the vehicle as the driver sped off.

The officer quickly got back on his feet, picking up his firearm and running to catch up with the vehicle.

Meanwwhile in court, Abu Trica and his two associates were denied bail by the Gbese District Court.

Abu Trica was at the Gbese District Court as part of extradition proceedings following a request from US authorities.

In a viral video shared, Abu Trica and his accomplices were spotted arriving at the Gbese District Court.

The Swedru-based businessman was dressed in a black shirt and a black cap and covered his face to conceal his identity.

His associate, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo were also escorted to court by the security service without their faces covered.

The Gbese District Court denied Abu Trica and his two associates and remanded them into Police custody.

The court ordered the Interior Ministry to clarify arrest warrants for two of Abu Trica’s alleged accomplices within five weeks and denies them bail.

The trio faces fraud and money laundering charges, with the case adjourned to January 13, 2026.

According to reports from TV3, Abu Trica and two others were charged with conspiracy to defraud by false pretence and conspiracy to commit money laundering in a romance scam and wire fraud case.

Additionally, a committed supporter of embattled Swedru-based businessman, Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has pleaded on his behalf following his bail being denied.

According to the staunch supporter of Abu Trica, he has never committed any sin, adding that he is also involved in the browsing work.

Speaking to the media, a supporter of Abu Trica stated, “Abu Trica has never committed any wrongdoing. We are all in the browsing work together, and we need our brother home. We plead on his behalf because he has never committed any wrong deeds,”

When asked if he knew of the charges against Abu Trica, he added, “I’m aware [of the charges against Abu Trica]. They want to deal with our brother, but we believe that by the grace of God, he will come home. We know all that is going on and we are with him together. He tells and shows us whatever is happening”.

“If NDC pushes this 3-term agenda, it’ll be a bonanza for the NPP to come back to power” – Kwesi Pratt

0

Veteran broadcaster Kwesi Pratt has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that they will be handing the opposition NPP a bonanza if they keep pushing a third-term agenda.

According to Kwesi Pratt, the NPP is in tatters, but the NDC’s third-term agenda will revive the NPP very quickly and enhance its chances.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Kwesi Pratt stated, “How can we as a people, 35 million people, come to the conclusion that there is only one person who can lead us out of 35 million? That is an insult to the population.

To make the general preposition that for us long us that person is alive, he is the only person capable of leading”.

He further replied to the Majority leader in parliament, who claimed Ghanaians are calling for President Mahama to run for a third term.

“I wish he would have learnt a little more history, he would have thought twice because Ghana’s history clearly shows that it is an adventure that could lead to very dangerous consequences”, Kwesi Pratt noted.

He further explained, “If you look at our history, one of our most popular leaders was General Acheampong. Don’t forget when Gen Acheampong was being shot at the Teshie range, he was being shot to public applauds what did he do wrong? Study that history.

People should be careful about what they advocate and what they wish. I have told some of my friends that today the NPP appears to be in tatters, and the NPP would revive itself very quickly and enhance its chances of coming back to power if this third-term bid is pushed. It will be a bonanza for the NPP if they like, they should try it”.

Kwesi Pratt further highlighted that, fortunately for the NDC president, Mahama has already come out to say he is not interested, and the NDC has also stressed they are not going to support any third-term bid.

“Fortunaetely the president himself has said he is not interested and fortunately, the leadership of NDC has also comeout to say they will not support a third-term bid so it is clear those who are still clamouring for a third-term bid should learn from our history”, he added.

Meanwhile, Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has said Ghanaians are calling for President John Dramani Mahama to serve a third term due to his excellent performance so far in government.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on December 19, 2025, Mahama Ayariga noted that Ghanaians will be the ultimate deciders of the future of this country.

The Majority Leader, in his concluding statement as Parliament rises, stated, “I know that due to the very excellent performance so far of John Dramani Mahama, Ghanaians are asking him to seek a third term. I know that because I read on social media, I listen to conversations, and Ghanaians believe that as a result of the good deeds of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, they don’t want him to leave the presidency”.

“They believe that a third term is possible, and they are demanding a third term, but John Dramani Mahama has not given any indication that he wants to go for a third term. I have always said that Ghanaians will be the ultimate deciders of the future of this country,” he continued.

He recalled, “Mr Speaker, why do I say that? Next to us in Côte d’Ivoire, the opposition leaders came to me when I was in the ECOWAS parliament and complained that the president there wanted to go for a third term and they were calling on us in West Africa to support them to oppose and prevent the president from going for a third term”.

“So, I asked them, the president who is seeking for a third term, is he going to put a ballot box in front of the citizens and ask them to vote for him to go for a third term, or is he going to wake up early morning and announce that he is continuing for a third term? And they said there will be an election to determine whether or not he should go for a third term. I said go and fight him at that election”, the Majority leader noted.

Mahama Ayariga added, “Mr Speaker, that is why I say that ultimately it will be the constitution, the institutions and the citizens of Ghana who will determine the future of our country. Mr Speaker, your guidance and leadership have ensured that our legislative process, though often cumbersome, was conducted within the bounds of parliamentary decorum and democratic responsibility”.

“My client has never been given the rights guaranteed to him under Ghanaian law” – Ofori-Atta’s US lawyer

0

Enayat Qasimi, the International lawyer representing former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, has said his client has never been given the rights guaranteed to him under Ghanaian law.

According to Enayat Qasimi, his client, Ken Ofori-Atta, is fully committed to the laws of Ghana and is fully committed to answering for anything he did as Ghana’s finance minister.

Enayat Qasimi further stressed that the Ghanaian authorities already knew his client was in the US receiving treatment, and there was no need for the issuance of a red notice.

“Ofori-Atta was receiving treatment in the US. They knew this all along. There was no purpose for issuing the red notice, but they went ahead and issued it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kofi Bentil, a Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa and lawyer, has said the extradition process of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will need a small miracle.

According to Kofi Bentil, the process will be extremely challenging with US authorities scrutinising every aspect before acting.

He highlighted that the Attorney General was managing the expectations of the Ghanaians by informing the public that Ken Ofori-Atta has hired top US lawyers to fight his extradition process to Ghana.

Speaking on JoyNews, on December 20, 2025, Kofi Bentil explained, “What the Attorney-General did was manage expectations of the public by informing you that with the kind of things that have happened in the past year—which constitutes a defence for Ken Ofori-Atta—and with the kind of lawyers he will have… and of course he won’t have little-boy lawyers but big-boy lawyers… it will be a small miracle to extradite Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana.”

He added, “Dr Ayine is also a top-notch lawyer, but what he is telling Ghanaians—he won’t say it, but I will—is that the process will be extremely challenging, and the U.S. legal system will scrutinise every aspect before acting.”

Additionally, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General, who has announced that the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has hired top US lawyers to fight his extradition process to Ghana.

According to Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the lawyers hired by Ken Ofori-Atta do not daunt him, and he knows there is going to be a fight in the federal courts in the US.

He revealed that the requirement for the extradition request to be tried in courts may delay the return of Ofori-Atta to Ghana, which makes it difficult to give a potential date.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Attorney General stated, “I just got to know yesterday that he has hired some of the top lawyers in the United States of America, very experienced lawyers to defend him. Now, I’m not afraid at all, I am not afraid at all. But it means that there is going to be a fight in the federal courts in the US.

“If the district court says ‘no’, he will go to the circuit court, all right? If the Circuit Court says ‘no’, he is entitled to go to the US Supreme Court to fight his case.”

He added, “So, I cannot tell you that he will come tomorrow or he will come the next day. And I’m just being honest. Accounting to the people means being explicit and truthful. So this is what I mean, we are faced with.”

He further revealed that he has formally transmitted a request for the extradition of Ken Ofori-Atta and an alleged accomplice, Ernest Akore, from the United States.

He added, “I have, on behalf of the Government of His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, taken the requisite steps to bring him to Ghana to face trial. And if I were him, this is his home; he should just join the next flight and come here.

“Under my watch, he will not be treated unfairly. You know, he will go through due process and be prosecuted, just like any other person, just like Kwabena Adu-Boahene, or Hanan (Abdul-Wahab Aludiba), or any of the persons that we have filed charges against,” he said.

“Greedy politician pushing Mahama’s third-term bid” – Akim Oda MP

0

Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has said persons pushing President John Dramani Mahama for a third-term bid are greedy politicians.

According to Alexander Akwasi Acquah, President Mahama must ignore the third-term calls and step away when his term ends.

The Akim Oda MP claimed there is an attempt to use the NDC super-majority in Parliament to push the third-term agenda.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio, the MP stated, “The Ghanaians I know believe that anyone advising President Mahama to pursue a third term is a greedy politician”.

“We saw how terrible his first term was. Ghanaians have reconsidered and brought you back to complete your two terms. However, you are already pushing for a third term before your second is even over.”

Also, Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, has issued a serious warning to President John Dramani Mahama regarding any third-term ambition.

Ernesto Yeboah urged President Mahama to ignore calls urging him to run for a third term, arguing that such a move would lead to a fierce public resistance.

According to him, President Mahama will be forcefully removed if you seek a third term.

He highlighted that anyone pushing the President to seek a third term in office does not truly love Ghana.

”Anyone who truly loves Ghana would not suggest that President Mahama seek another term,” Yeboah stated.

”If Mahama wants to leave behind a lasting legacy, he should resist that temptation because any attempt will destroy it. Look at what nearly happened in Benin. President Mahama should be guided by that because it can happen here in Ghana”, he made this known on Rainbow Radio.

Ernest Yeboah stressed that a third-term agenda could lead to national chaos that might even force the President to flee the Flagstaff House.

Meanwhile, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, the Chair of the Constitution Review Committee, has said the committee could not find a place for a third term for a president.

According to the Chair of the Committee, nobody really seemed to like the idea of a third term.

Presenting the committee reports to President John Mahama on Monday, December 22, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh stated, “We couldn’t find a place for a third term; nobody really seemed to like it, there was really no demand for it”.

He further noted that even the President, John Dramani Mahama, himself was not in favour of it.

According to the chair, the committee mainly focus on improving governance efficiency.

He revealed that the food items supposedly meant for the Awaso STEM SH were found in a private home, with the information passed on to the police, which led to the arrests of some suspects.

Bright Asamoah Brefo, the Member of Parliament for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, has also disclosed that legal action will be pursued against those found responsible, emphasising efforts to prevent similar incidents in schools across the country.

In related news, the Wa Technical Institute in the Upper West Region, Bursar, has been arrested for diverting foodstuffs meant for students to her home.

Reports suggest authorities have already begun an investigation into the matter.

Also, Fedelia Kudaariwo, a bursar of the Northern School of Business Senior High School (NOBISCO), has been arrested.

The NOBISCO bursar was arrested after she was caught diverting food supplies meant for the school.

Reports revealed Fedelia Kudaariwo attempted to make away with nine bags of maize in the school’s minibus.

A team of volunteers who apprehended the drivers on Thursday, October 30, revealed some students had blown an alarm on the syndicate carrying food out of the stores at night, which prompted their attention to keep monitoring the activities.

The driver, who was busted, named the bursar of the school as the one who had asked him to haul the items to her house.

They later went to the school bursar’s house, where some food items were allegedly found, including bags of rice, cooking oil, and tins of mackerel.

However, reports suggest the bursar escaped before the team got to her house, but later turned herself in to the police.

Alhassan Dokurugu, the Headmaster of NOBISCO, has expressed his disappointment, adding that the school management was working hard to project the school’s image others were giving the school such a bad image

He added that the school management will cooperate with the necessary investigation.

“NPP had a candidate challenge in the 2024 election” – Bryan Acheampong

0

Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, has shockingly stated that the party had a candidate challenge in the 2024 election.

The NPP flagbearer hopeful noted that the 2024 election outcome highlighted the deeper weaknesses within the party.

According to Dr Acheampong, the NPP went into the 2024 elections with a governance challenge and also a candidate challenge.

He detailed that the governance challenge was evident in the discrepancy between the performance of parliamentary candidates and that of the party’s presidential candidate.

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, stated, “We went to the 2024 elections, and the results that came out portrayed two things. We had a governance challenge, and we also had a candidate challenge”.

“And the governance challenge was seen from the performance of the parliamentary candidates’ level. And if you come to the presidential candidate [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia], in most constituencies of this country, the parliamentary candidates did far better than the presidential candidate in the same constituencies, in the same elections, in the same political party,” he stated.

He added, “In my case, I did better than my presidential candidate”.

“In Okaikwei South, the parliamentary candidate lost by about 5,000 votes, while the presidential candidate lost by roughly 11,000 votes,” he noted.

“And that almost cuts across the whole country. If you put all the parliamentary results together, it beat the presidential candidate by almost 350,000 votes. This has never happened in the country before,” he said.

Also, Dr Bryan Acheampong cautioned the party that they cannot repeat Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2028 elections.

The Abetifi lawmaker detailed that the results in the 2024 elections show that maintaining the same candidate will not change the NPP’s fortunes.

Dr Acheampong stressed that the results of the 2024 elections should inform the party’s decisions ahead of 2028.

He stated, “If you go into the 2024 elections results, you cannot repeat a candidate. Not much will change”

He, however, noted that Ghanaians will forgive the NPP for its wrongs in the past, just like they forgave the NDC, but the NPP have a candidate challenge the party cannot overcome.

“Ghanaians will forgive our party [NPP] for a lot of the wrongs it did in the past, because they forgave the NDC. It will forgive NPP. But we have a candidate challenge that we may not be able to surmount. Leadership inspires hope,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dr Acheampong has revealed he has privately urged Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to bow out of the January 31 primaries.

According to Dr Bryan Acheampong, his appeal was based on the structural challenges within the party.

He stressed the structural challenges within the party could undermine the NPP’s chances if Dr Bawumia lead the party in the 2028 election.

Speaking in an interview on Good Evening Ghana with Paul Adom-Otchere on Thursday, December 18 stated, “Those structural challenges are in addition to what he Mussa Dankwah does not know, the ones that I compiled and reached out to the candidate and said ‘look we will have challenges if we continue like this and therefore if you consider the interest of the party and bow out, that will be great for us so that we can find a new candidate and press on.’

“But then also the perceived division, the supporters of himself and that of Kennedy Agyapong were emerging. It was very clear to me that it was going to take us into 2028, and it will not give us the opportunity of winning that election, and you know if we do not win, we are in serious trouble,” he stated.

Dr Bryan Acheampong had earlier backed Dr Bawumia during the 2023 flagbearer contest, but has since withdrawn despite Former Second Lady Samira Bawumia’s attempts to persuade him to remain with her husband’s campaign.

“Abu Trica has not sinned; we are together in the browsing work” – Supporter of Abu Trica cries out

0

A committed supporter of embattled Swedru-based businessman, Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has pleaded on his behalf following his bail being denied.

In court,  Abu Trica and his two associates were denied bail by the Gbese District Court.

Background

Abu Trica, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam which targeted elderly victims in the United States.

He was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, following an investigation conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough for the Northern District of Ohio.

The US Department of Justice wrote, “According to the indictment, perpetrators of this romance scam used Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities and form close personal relationships with victims. They gained victims’ trust to obtain money and valuables, often targeting individuals through social media and online dating platforms under false pretences.

Victims were often elderly and engaged in romantic but physically distant relationships with perpetrators. The perpetrators built trust through frequent, intimate conversations by phone, email, and messaging platforms. They then requested money or valuables under false pretenses, such as urgent medical needs, travel expenses, or investment opportunities. Relying on these misrepresentations, victims were persuaded to send funds or valuables, which were then directed to co-conspirators posing as third parties.

The indictment also alleges that after the victims transferred funds, Kumi worked with a network of co-conspirators to distribute the money from Ohio and across the United States to associates in the Republic of Ghana and other locations.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification, and faces up to 20 years in prison”.

It further added, “If convicted, a defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to this case, including a defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt”.

“He’s fully committed to answering for anything he did” – Ofori-Atta’s US lawyer speaks

0

The International lawyer representing former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, Enayat Qasimi, has broken his silence concerning his client’s extradition brouhaha.

Enayat Qasimi highlighted that his client, Ken Ofori-Atta, is fully committed to the laws of Ghana and is fully committed to answering for anything he did as Ghana’s finance minister.

Also, Wilberforce Asare, a Political Editor with pro-NPP Asaase Radio, has weighed in on the commotion surrounding the extradition of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the Asaase Radio editor, Ken Ofori-Atta believes the charges against him are personally and politically motivated.

He highlighted that Ken Ofori-Atta is fighting his extradition in a US court because of those reasons.

Wilberforce Asare is quoted by GHOne TV to have said, “Ofori-Atta believes the charges against him are personally and politically motivated, hence his decision to challenge the extradition request in US courts”.

Meanwhile, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, the Former Deputy Attorney General, has said the 1931 extradition treaty between the US and Ghana provides former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta certain defences.

The former Deputy Attorney General highlighted that Ofori-Atta can argue that he is politically pursued or prosecuted.

He further added that Ofori-Atta can argue that his fundamental rights will be violated when he is extradited back to Ghana.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Tuah-Yeboah stated, “… But per the [1931 extradition] treaty also, Ofori-Atta has certain defences that he can raise. One of them is when he alleges that he’s been politically pursued or prosecuted. If that argument succeeds in the US court, he will not be brought to Ghana”.

“Another argument he can put up is that if he is brought back to Ghana, his fundamental rights will be violated, especially when it comes to torture, and you know there’s a convention against torture… I can assure you that if he’s able to prove it, he will definitely not be brought to Ghana,” he continued.

He added, “It’s a long journey that we have to go. It’s a defence available to whether he’s going to activate it. I’m just trying to give a general education. I mean, we are in a democratic state, and with issues of human rights, people will be able to raise them because of their constitutional rights, but I’m just highlighting some of the things that his lawyers there are likely to raise when it comes to the extradition proceedings in the US.”

“If you look at Article 3 of the [1931 extradition] treaty, it details the offences under which the extradition could be triggered in the US. I’ve looked at a charge sheet which has been prepared by the OSP, and I’m not going to make any judgment on it, but that charge has to be evaluated by the US to see whether there is merit to warrant the commencement of extradition proceedings in the US,” he explained.

Mahama gov’t not responsible for poor 2025 WASSCE performance – Education Minister

0

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has rejected claims that the John Mahama government is responsible for the poor  2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) performance.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has broken his silence concerning the poor performance of students in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

According to Mahama, the poor WASSCE results are due to several years of neglect in basic education.

President Mahama described the situation as a serious concern for the government, parents, and the wider public.

He highlighted that it is mind-boggling that with the same teachers, the same factors in play, one batch of students passed their exams and the other failed.

Speaking at the launch of the STEMBox initiative for primary schools, John Mahama explained, “It has become an issue of great concern to governments, parents, and the public at large. I was speaking with the minister, and I’ve asked him to do an analysis of the examiner’s report to try and decipher what could have gone so disastrously wrong”.

“It is mind-boggling that with the same teachers, the same factors in play, just from one batch to another, one batch does so disastrously. And so we need to get to the bottom of it.”

“But it also emphasises the issue of foundational learning. One of the major things that has taken place in the last several years is the neglect of basic education,” he said.

“Inability to send the capitation grants, ensuring that we have quality teachers at a foundational level, at a basic level. Because it is that level that prepares the child for secondary and tertiary education.”

“And once you don’t get that level right, you will just send the child through a conveyor belt like a factory. And when it comes out at the end, it will be picked out by quality control and said that this one did not do well,” he explained.

Mahama added, “And so our focus must be on foundational learning. And foundational learning means that by the time a child leaves primary school, they should be able to read properly. By the time the child leaves primary school, they should be able to write properly. By the time the child leaves primary school, they should be able to do basic arithmetic”.

“If we are able to get our children to get these three things right—writing, reading, and arithmetic—then they have the foundation to continue into secondary education.”

President Mahama lamented, “Otherwise, it will be a factory that is just pushing them through and pushing them through. And at the end of it, you have the situation where a child finishes basic school and sometimes still finds it difficult to write his name”.

“Vigilance is not going to go away. Invigilation is not going to go away. And so we must make sure that the children are well prepared on their own to be able to study and pass the exams that are awaiting for them.”

“And so, I’ve asked the minister, and he’s told the director-general of the GES to study the examiner’s report, and let’s see what quick reforms we can carry out in order that our children get a quality education,” he stated.

Ken Agyapong gains huge momentum from 18% to 31%; Bawumia stands at 45% – Global Info Analytics

0

A latest poll by the Global Info Analytics in December 2025 has revealed that the former Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, has gained huge momentum in the NPP presidential race.

Meanwhile, Dr Bryan Acheampong, an aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has confidently stated he will win the party’s presidential election and nothing can change it.

The NPP flagbearer aspirant dismissed polls by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the party’s presidential election.

According to Bryan Acheampong, his team’s own internal profiling shows he is far ahead in the race for the party’s presidential slot.

He revealed his campaign team has profiled 190,000 delegates out of the 209,000, showing he is far ahead in the flagbearer race.

Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, the Abetifi MP stated, “We are doing military precision profiling, and we’ve profiled 190,000 delegates out of the 209,000”.

“We are miles ahead,” he said. We have profiled 190,000 delegates, and I’m way, way, way, way ahead. I think I’m close to 50%, and the second person is around about half of what I am profiling.”

He further fired shots at Global InfoAnalytics’ interest in the NPP’s flagbearer race, saying, “First of all, what is Global InfoAnalytics’ interest in this poll? Who pays them?” he asked. “I know what I know, but I’m saying…”

“Somebody must have an interest such that you do a nationwide poll and you give me 5%,” he said. “No, come on.”

He added, “It means he pulled 12 people out of 700 and then passes a judgment that of the 700, I will get 5%. In May, Dr Bawumia was polling 77% according to the same organisation.” He continued, “June, 77%, July, 70, August 55, September 52, October 47, November 42. By December, let’s say it comes to 35. In January, it comes to about 25.”

“From his own report, not to critique the report, he says that the undecided is huge, 30%,” he noted.

“Two candidates are in the race. The delegates have not changed. They voted for either Kennedy or Bawumia. All of a sudden, they are undecided. So people don’t want to tell you that you vote for Brian, because others are intimidating them.”

“The elections of January 31, 2026, will not change the results,” he said. “I’ll win. Nothing will change it. I’ve been in contact with 200,000 of the 209,000 people we profiled, 190,000 people. Nothing will change,” He added.

DVLA halts January 2026 new number plates rollout

0

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced a suspension of the January 2026 new number plates rollout.

The new number plates rollout was originally scheduled to begin on January 2, 2026.

According to the DVLA, the suspension is due to failure to secure the necessary amendments to the Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

The DVLA, in its statement, noted that the Parliament successfully amended the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683), but the provisions in L.I. 2180 were not passed before Parliament went on recess on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Parts of the DVLA statement read, “Until the legislative requirements are fully settled, we are unable to proceed with the rollout of the new RFID-embedded licence plates”

“The new plates were designed to incorporate modern technology, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), to promote traceability and enhance road safety.”

“Owners of vehicles with DP stickers and DV plates may continue using them until a time limit is communicated by the Authority,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Vehicle Embossment Association of Ghana (VEMAG) has filed an injunction at the High Court in Accra against the DVLA’s planned new number plates rollout for 2026.

The Vehicle Embossment Association are seeking to restrain the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) from rolling out its planned digital new vehicle number plate registration system starting from January 2026.

Reports suggest the suit was filed by BEMENCO Embossment Ltd and 26 other plaintiffs.

The injunction application was filed at the High Court on Monday, December 22, 2025 and seeks to restrain the DVLA from introducing digitalised vehicle number plates.

The Vehicle Embossment Association, in their injunction, claimed the DVLA awarded both manufacturing and embossment contracts to a single entity, which they claim goes contrary to established practice.

They are also seeking the court to compel the DVLA to continue engaging licensed embossers for 2026 and beyond.

VEMAG is also asking for costs, including solicitors’ fees, and other reliefs the court may deem fit, as well as declarations that the DVLA’s refusal to allocate blank registration plates for 2026 is unlawful and a breach of contract.

According to VEMAG, the DVLA owes some of its members arrears for plates already produced.

Earlier, reports had suggested that the Vehicle Embossers Association of Ghana had petitioned the Transport Ministry to halt the 2026 number plate change planned by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.

The Vehicle Embossers cited a lack of consultation and claim there will be a looming disruption if DVLA proceed with plans to introduce the new number plate.

According to TV3, they stated, “Vehicle Embossers Association of Ghana petitions Transport Ministry to halt January 2026 number plate changeover, cites lack of consultation and looming disruption”.

Some netizens reacting to the Food vendor’s remarks stated, “It’s getting serious. The Hail him, hail him people are the ones who scream crucify the loudest”.

Another stated, “So the people who are insulting this woman nu they think they’re better people and wiser than her, or what exactly is their main problem? Because she is a northerner, or what? Asem ooo. Someone is sharing her opinions, you’re there crying”.

“Aswear except those who are fooling, everyone can tell, experience the impact of Mahama led government. Man is doing well paaa. God bless Ghana”, a netizen added.

One more netizen added, “How long has he been president in Recent times? Every Govt starts on a good note when power changes hands. Wait until 2028 in order to measure properly his performance. Nana Addo’s 1st term was a success. 2nd term was disappointing”.

However, Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, the Chair of the Constitution Review Committee, has said the committee could not find a place for a third term for a president.

Meanwhile, Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, has issued a serious warning to President John Dramani Mahama regarding any third-term ambition.

Additionally, President John Dramani Mahama made a bold declaration that he will not be a candidate in Ghana’s next elections.

Watch Mahama recounts how he became homeless after losing election 2016

0

President John Dramani Mahama has recounted how he and his family became homeless after losing the 2016 general elections.

According to President Mahama, after the election defeat, he and his wife faced difficulties in securing accommodation.

Mahama stressed that the period of homelessness he experienced during difficult times shows that in times of hardship do not necessarily mean one has been abandoned by God.

President Mahama recounted that after the 2016 defeat, the arrangement was that the state would provide an accommodation as a former president, but they were left without a place to stay.

He revealed that they had built a house, but could not host any head of state in that house, and the house was also rented to some Chinese, and they could not evict them.

President Mahama further added that they attempted to rent several properties around Accra, in areas near Kawkudi and Airport Hills, but repeatedly faced negative responses.

He stressed that in some instances, landlords reportedly withdrew offers after realizing the prospective tenant was the former president who had just lost an election.

Speaking during a community engagement at Chain Homes, where he now lives with his family, President Mahama shared the personal account, “We lost the elections. We thought the world had come to an end, and the agreement was that, as the former president, the state would provide accommodation for you.

“We were a young couple, we had built a house, but it was a small old house. You couldn’t host any head of state in that house.

“And besides, we had rented it out. So, there were some Chinese living in it, and then we lost the election. You couldn’t go and tell them to get out of your house, and then you come and stay there.

“So, we were homeless, and I said, OK, Lodina, no problem. Let’s find somewhere and rent. So, we got a place near Kawukudi, the gold house, there somewhere, and they agreed, went and looked at it,” he said.

He continued, “It was OK, not anything imposing, but it was livable and considering that we were homeless, we were prepared to take anything, and so we went there. Lordina went there, I didn’t go there, and she went and negotiated everything and all that.

“They said, yeah, the house is available. So, Lordina said, well, John, come, let me show you where we’ve got. So, I went there.

“So, for the first time, they realised that, ah, it’s the former president who just lost the election who is coming to stay here. Oh, the next day, they said, eh, you see it’s a company accommodation. One of our general managers is coming from abroad. And actually, he’s coming to live there. “

Also, President John Dramani Mahama refuted the allegation and fabrication that has been circulated that he owns the Chain Homes Ghana Estate.

According to President Mahama, residents of Chain Homes Ghana Estate have been told the fairy story that he owns the Estate.

President Mahama revealed that they first occupied a rented property, which belonged to a private individual who handed it to Chain Homes to manage.

He added, “And so, while we roamed and we’re looking for a place to rent and we didn’t get, finally they said oh There’s a place at Chain Homes. There’s Chain Homes, so go and check there. So, when we came round It was my daughter.

“And somebody had built his house in the corner there and given it to Chain Homes and asked them to rent it. So, he said oh, there’s this property in the corner there. See if you like it, and so Lordina went and said oh look, we have no choice anyway, so it’s not about whether we like it, we’ll take it. And so that’s how we came to this neighbourhood, “he said.

President Mahama further added that he already knew several residents in the estate, including some former colleagues and schoolmates, at the Chain Homes Ghana Estate.

He recollected how some residents subsequently encouraged him and his family to make the estate their permanent home, adding that they were granted a plot of land to build a house at the centre.

He further sarcastically added, “They very graciously granted us that land, at the centre, and so we are part of this neighbourhood indeed; they believe the estate belongs to me. So, all of you who bought these houses bought them illegally because you should have paid the money to me, they said this is Mahama’s estate”.

“If you paid your money to Addai and Co., please ask for a refund and bring my money”, Mahama added.

President Mahama further urged residents not to be intimidated by the military security presence.

“Don’t be intimidated by the soldiers, we are neighbours anytime you think there is any issue… we have not been very good neighbours, because of the responsibility of the state, there is hardly a weekend that I am here, the times that we are available, you can always come over”.

Vehicle Embossment Association files injunction against DVLA’s planned new number plates rollout

0

The Vehicle Embossment Association of Ghana (VEMAG) has filed an injunction at the High Court in Accra against the DVLA’s planned new number plates rollout for 2026.

Meanwhile, the DVLA plans to introduce number plates embedded with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips.

According to the DVLA boss, the  RFID chips would enhance security and curb vehicle-related criminality.

The DVLA boss explained that the RFID-enabled plates would make it very difficult for external entities to tamper with or replicate vehicle information.

Julius Neequaye Kotey and the technical team have outlined the upcoming nationwide vehicle registration reforms, aimed at modernising the system, enhancing security, and addressing longstanding issues like plate abuse and data inaccuracies.

The DVLA Justifications for the New System include,

Database Cleanup: Builds a credible, updated vehicle registry to tackle stolen/unaccustomed vehicles and fraud (e.g., easy plate duplication from garages).

State-Controlled Printing: Plates will be produced in-house by DVLA (not private entities) after verification, reducing unauthorised access.

Owner Identification: Links plates to verified owners to boost public safety, crime prevention (e.g., vehicles in crimes), road enforcement, and regional harmonisation (e.g., ECOWAS integration).

Best Practices: Aligns with global standards for reliable data and anti-fraud measures.

Donald Trump offering illegal migrants $3,000 to voluntarily return home

0

The Donald Trump administration, through the United States Department of Homeland Security, has announced a limited-time incentive to illegal migrants leaving in the United States to leave for their home countries.

In a statement released, “undocumented migrants who register to self-deport through the CBP Home app by the end of the year will receive a $3,000 stipend, in addition to a free flight to their home country”.

The Department of Homeland Security revealed that since January 2025, about 1.9 million undocumented migrants have voluntarily left the country.

Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security Secretary, revealed the incentive had been temporarily increased for the Christmas season.

“Since January 2025, 1.9 million illegal aliens have voluntarily self-deported, and tens of thousands have used the CBP Home program.

“During the Christmas season, the US taxpayer is so generously tripling the incentive to leave voluntarily for those in this country illegally—offering a $3,000 exit bonus, but just until the end of the year,” Noem said.

“Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return,” she added.

“The American people are generously offering illegal aliens $1,000 and a free flight to self-deport now,” it announced. To pay for the flights and “exit bonuses,” the State Department repurposed $250 million intended to help resettle refugees.

In related news, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has informed Parliament that 388 Ghanaians have been in detention in the US since January 2025.

Ablakwa revealed that 388 Ghanaians are in detention on immigration-related charges, with 120 awaiting final decision.

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, 169 Ghanaians have been deported from the U.S. since January 2025, with 120 more awaiting final deportation.

He further clarified that Ghana has not requested any monetary or material support from the U.S. for accepting these deportees.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Ablakwa stated, “388 Ghanaians have been in detention since January this year on immigration-related charges. Of this number, 120 are awaiting final decisions by the Board of Immigration Appeals. 49 have exhausted all legal processes and await final deportation arrangements.”

“As of today, per the Ministry’s records, 169 Ghanaians have been deported to Ghana since January 2025. Of this number, 90 arrived in Ghana unaccompanied on commercial flights, and 66 on chartered, controlled flights supervised by ICE agents,” the Minister added.

Alabkwa further revealed that Ghana did not ask for a cent before accepting US West African deportees.

According to him, Ghana did not ask the United States for any money or material support in connection with its decision to receive some third-party deportees.

He revealed that Ghana accepted the West African nationals based on humanitarian and Pan-African reasons.

We cannot repeat Bawumia – Bryan Acheampong tells NPP

0

Dr Bryan Acheampong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has cautioned the party that they cannot repeat Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2028 elections.

The Abetifi lawmaker detailed that the results in the 2024 elections show that maintaining the same candidate will not change the NPP’s fortunes.

Dr Acheampong stressed that the results of the 2024 elections should inform the party’s decisions ahead of 2028.

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, Dr Acheampong stated, “If you go into the 2024 elections results, you cannot repeat a candidate.

In a separate interview,  Dr Bryan Acheampong ripped Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections into shreds.

According to Bryan Acheampong, Dr Bawumia was marketed by the NPP for sixteen years but failed in the market with only securing 41 per cent in the 2024 election.

Dr Bryan Acheampong further highlighted that  Dr Bawumia has reached his electoral ceiling, which is 41 per cent.

He described Dr Bawumia as the most marketed NPP candidate, highlighting that he had spent eight years as Vice President and eight years as running mate.

Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, Dr Acheampong detailed, “Everything that you have ends at 41%. In the sixteen years that we marketed him, he had 41%. We marketed Akufo-Addo for eight months; he had 49.7%,”

He added that the 2024 election results were devastating, with the NPP failing to win a single constituency in seven regions during the 2024 presidential election.

Dr Bryan Acheampong added, “After all the attributes that you just highlighted, in seven regions, we could not win a single constituency,” he said. He listed Volta, Oti, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah and Bono East. He said, “In the presidential, we could not win one constituency in these regions.”

“When we were supporting him in 2023, one of the beliefs was that if we presented him, he would hold the votes from the northern part of Ghana for us. Five of the regions that we did not win a single constituency, seven, five of them are from the northern half of Ghana,” he said.

Dr Acheampong cited further losses. “We could not win one western region, 17 constituencies, we won one presidential. Those attributes and the results of the elections are the ones that the delegates are passing a verdict on”.

“If we market you for 16 years, and you come out with 41% and we market Akufo-Addo for eight months, and he gets 49.7% then there’s a difference,” he said.

Dr Acheampong explained that “the difference is that the marketing did not yield the sales results,” adding that “people are going to change their product.”

“You’re mixing logic with politics and performance,” he said. He said history is often misunderstood. “It is only logic which will suggest that Adu Boahen went once, Busia went once and won; Kufuor went twice and won; Akufo-Addo went three times and won, and logically, it means that Dr Bawumia will go four times,” he said.

Other members of the Joint committee were Hon. Hassan Tampuli, Hon OB Amoah, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah,  Gary Nimako ESQ, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Hon Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, Hon Fati Abubakar, and Hanifa Adjoa Yahaya.

All party members are encouraged to be cautious with their commentary on the proposals of the CRC as we await the outcome of the party’s joint committee’s study. The position of the Party on the final proposals submitted yesterday will soon be made public”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said that the report of the Constitution Review Committee will be implemented starting from early 2026.

According to President Mahama, the Constitution Review Committee report implementation will be done in a bipartisan manner.

Speaking after receiving the final report from the Committee in Accra on Monday, December 22, Mahama stated, “This time we said let’s choose the committee very carefully, so that it’s a committee that Ghanaians have trust in, so that when the report comes it would be nonpartisan, it would not have been influenced by any political interest, so that it would make it easier for all of us to come together and move the process forward,” he noted.

“As soon as we resume early next year, we’re moving from the constitutional review process into the implementation process, and so early next year we’ll announce an implementation committee”, he added.

Also, President Mahama labelled the proposal by the Constitution Review Committee as revolutionary and radical.

According to President Mahama, some of the recommendations are revolutionary and radical, but in the interest of Ghana’s democracy.

President Mahama stressed that the recommendations are necessary to strengthen governance and restore public confidence in democratic institutions, noting that several countries in the subregion are experiencing coups.

Mahama stated, “I think that many of the recommendations you’ve made are quite revolutionary. Some are quite radical, but I think it’s in the interest of our democracy”.

“It is important for us to let our citizens know that democratic governance is still better than any other form of governance.”

He further added, “You were carefully chosen for your integrity, your credibility, and we haven’t had the experience of constitutional review committees before and the fact that at the end of it we had been unable to agree how to move the process forward”.

“Passengers must resist paying more than the approved fare” – GPRTU

0

Abass Imoro, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has told passengers to resist paying fares above the approved rates.

The GPRTU PRO highlighted that any unofficial increase by drivers is illegal and punishable under the law.

He stressed that both operators and passengers must strictly adhere to fare regulations.

Abass Imoro detailed that any fares are formally communicated to the public to ensure everyone is informed.

He further called on security agencies and law enforcement to arrest transport operators who violate approved rates.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, Abass Imoro stated, “Each time we adjust fares, either up or down, a formal communiqué is issued by the Ministry of Transport and disseminated through the media. Since the 15 per cent reduction, fares have remained unchanged.

“If anybody on their own decides to raise the fare, they are violating the law. It is the duty of law enforcement to take action against such practices. As a union, we do not support this behaviour; it amounts to cheating.

“Passengers must resist paying more than the approved fare. If you refuse to board a vehicle charging beyond the regulated rate, operators will be compelled to comply with the law,” he said.

Meanwhile, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has arrested six commercial drivers for charging unapproved transport fares.

The AMA boss personally led a task force to crack down on operators charging unapproved fares.

He stressed that the first day of the enforcement operation was intended to serve as a firm warning before stricter monitoring and sanctions.

Allotey and his team, during the exercise, walked through heavy traffic, stopping trotros and other commercial vehicles to question drivers about their fares.

Speaking to the media during the operation, the AMA boss stated, “The city cannot allow a situation where commuters are exploited through arbitrary fare hikes, particularly during peak periods.

Sustained enforcement is necessary to ensure fairness in public transport pricing, maintain order at lorry stations and along key corridors, and deter drivers who take advantage of traffic and high demand to charge beyond approved fares.”

He noted that passenger verification would remain a key part of the strategy to monitor compliance.

In related road news, the Vehicle Embossment Association of Ghana (VEMAG) has filed an injunction at the High Court in Accra.

“I have pledged to serve the people and the country” – Okatakyie Afrifa signals political ambition

0

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, a controversial media personality, has signalled his plans for the future after pursuing a Master’s in Law at the University of Connecticut.

The Ghanaian media personality, who made his first appearance on his For the Records show after leaving Ghana for the United States to pursue a master’s in law, disclosed he has pledged to serve his people and country.

According to Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, after all he has learnt and accomplished, if his constituents do not benefit, what would he have gained?

Speaking on his show, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah stated, “Today, I stand here as a Bomfa Asanti Akyem resident, as you already know, whose grandmother nurtured him in Suame but who comes from Asanti Agona.

“The young child who was shaped by KNUST Primary and moulded by Mfantsipim is that child. My life has opened doors I never imagined I would access.

“I did my public relations at GIMPA and further earned a Master’s in Diplomacy and International Relations at the same institution. My desire to understand the law is what brought me to the US, where I am now pursuing a Master’s in Law at the University of Connecticut.”

He added, “My aim is to serve the country and my people. After all I have learned and accomplished, if my constituents do not benefit, what would I gain from all my education and knowledge? I have pledged to serve the people and the country.”

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has ignited a debate with many suggesting he plans to contest the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency seat to serve his community.

Meanwhile, on the show, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah demanded answers from the National Security.

He recounted the National Security led by Richard Jakpa. On February 9, 2025, National Security officers intercepted a massive stash of counterfeit US dollars and Ghanaian cedi notes.

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah stressed that despite the government’s ongoing accountability series, it has failed to provide updates to Ghanaians on the gold bars and cash.

He questioned, “We were in this country when Jakpa led the National Security operations that seized gold bars and a stash of cash. Jakpa, where is the gold and the money? We want to know the true state of the nation.

Where is the gold? The government is talking about the state of the nation and accountability series, where is the gold?”

In related news, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah some months ago slammed Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, over his recent comments on the Golden Stool.

Speaking on his For the Records show on August 19, 2025, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah quizzed the Dormaahene whether the Golden Stool is from the sky or not, then so what?

According to him, the Dormaahene had the perfect opportunity to talk about development, but chose to attack the Asantehene.

Afrifa-Mensah stated, “Nana Dormaahene, respectfully, if the Golden Stool is from the sky or not, then so what? The conversations you were having, what beneficial interest will that bring to the Bono people? There are a lot of pressing issues you could have addressed instead of talking about the Golden Stool.

“You had the perfect opportunity to talk about development and how to support the region, but what you did instead was driven by personal interest. What have you done for the people of Dormaa to show off?”

He continued, “Whether the Golden Stool came from the skies or not, it belongs to the Asantes and nothing else.

“You started this attack four years ago, but still, John Mahama continues to engage with the Asantes. Aren’t you tired, Nana Dormaahene? You did this for the NDC, and now that the NDC is in power, you are still attacking the Asantes.”

“How did America develop using a 4-year term for 200 years?” – MP asks amid CRC presidential term proposal

0

Kennedy Nyarko Osei, a member of Parliament for Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region, has quizzed how the United States of America developed their country using the 4-year democracy term for 200 years.

The NPP MP stressed that a term of 10 years won’t satisfy a greedy man.

According to Kennedy Nyarko Osei, Ghana does not need the 5-year presidential term proposed by the Constitutional Review Committee.

In a social media post, he said, “When a man is greedy and can’t function outside governmental power, a term of 10 years won’t satisfy him.

How did America develop its democracy using the undeviating 4-year term for the past 200 years.

Bad leaders are just lawbreakers, period”, his post added.

Also, Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has rejected the recommendation made by the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) proposing a one-year extension of Ghana’s four-year presidential term.

In a Facebook post on Monday, December 22, 2025, Lawyer Kpebu opposed the proposal, arguing that the four-year term provides sufficient time for a president to implement policies.

Lawyer Kpebu, in his post, wrote, “Extending the 4-year term to a 5-year term is a NOT NOT.”

Their comment comes on the back of the Constitution Review Committee recommending a one-year extension of Ghana’s presidential term.

The Committee proposed that Ghana’s presidential term be moved from the current four-year tenure to a five-year term to enable governments more time to govern.

Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the Chairman of the Committee Presenting the Committee’s report to President John Mahama on Monday, December 22, and made this known.

According to the Chair of the committee, they were persuaded by submissions from several eminent persons inculding former president.

He revealed that they argued that the four years is insufficient for meaningful governance, adding that the committee has noted the global standard for presidential tenure is five years.

They cited concern that the President spends about six months settling into office and nearly a year campaigning, noting that a portion of a four-year term is lost to administrative transition and election year.

Prof. Prempeh explained, “The claim was that the President spends about six months settling into office and nearly a year campaigning”.

He, however, revealed that the committee could not find a place for a third term for the president.

Abu Trica, two others denied bail, remanded into custody

0

The embattled Swedru-based businessman, Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, and his two associates have been denied bail by the Gbese District Court.

Meanwhile, Abu Trica, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam which targeted elderly victims in the United States.

Also, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has said he would be very happy to hand over Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, in exchange for the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking during the Government’s Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Attorney General stated, “I would have been glad to hand over Abu Trica, as I have done in other cases, and in return secure Ken Ofori-Atta. However, extradition must go through a court of competent jurisdiction. In our case, that is a district court. In the US, it will be a federal district court”.

“The person subject to extradition will contest it in court. The US authorities cannot simply accept my request and take him. The case will proceed through formal court proceedings,” Dr Ayine explained.

EOCO summoned Agradaa after she transferred an amount GH₵7m – Appiah Biblical

0

Osofo Appiah Biblical has alleged that Evangelist Nana Agradaa had a case with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) before her conviction.

According to Osofo Appiah Biblical, EOCO invited both Kudos and Nana Agradaa after she transferred GH₵7 million into her general manager’s account.

He further claimed that the GHC7 million transfer was only one of several transactions that drew EOCO’s attention.

Speaking on Angel TV on December 21, 2025, Appiah Biblical alleged, “EOCO invited both Kudos and Nana Agradaa because the money she gave him was not the only amount involved. There was a lot of money in question, and the GH₵7 million was just one transfer from one account to another”.

Also, Osofo Appiah Biblical has once again commented on the appearance of Nana Agradaa, also known as Evangelist Mama Pat.

According to Osofo Appiah Biblical, Agradaa has become much darker in complexion, stressing that the Judge could not recognise her and asked her to remove her nose mask to confirm her identity.

Speaking after court proceedings, Osofo Appiah Biblical stated, “Agradaa has indeed become black; there is nothing to hide. The whole mighty Agradaa after 5 months is very surprising. I don’t know why the reporter will say the court has issued a warning to me.

Even the Judge could not recognise her well, and asked her to remove her nose mask to see if it was her. The Agradaa we know if night falls and he shows up there, the whole place is bright. We know her to be fair, but within a short time, she has changed”, he added.

Osofo Appiah Biblical had earlier offered a striking account of Agradaa’s current condition, describing her as visibly transformed and ‘pitiful.’

Speaking to the media, Osofo Appiah Biblical stated, “Agradaa was in court today. When you see her, you will be shocked. Her whole body has changed. We were stunned by her physical appearance in court today.”

Meanwhile, Nana Agradaa has been convicted in her nude photo distribution case of fellow pastor Osofo Biblical.

In court on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Agradaa was fined GHS12,000 and was also ordered to pay GHS50,000 as compensation to the complainant, Osofo Biblical.

The court decision follows a plea bargain agreement reached between Agradaa and the State.

The case spanned nearly three years.

It will be recalled that Agradaa was charged for allegedly broadcasting nude images of Pastor Appiah Fumum on her television station and social media platforms.

The Prosecutors revealed that the nude images were aired during a live programme where panellists mocked the complainant.

After the court proceeding, Agradaa’s lawyer said the decision by the court was opt for a plea bargain rather than a full trial, which brought finality to the matter.

“50 large-scale mining licences face possible revocation” – Lands Ministry

0

Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Director of Public Relations, has revealed about 50 large-scale mining licences that face possible revocation.

The Director of Public Relations highlighted that the Lands Ministry is undertaking a comprehensive review of mining licences.

She revealed that the comprehensive review is being undertaken in both small- and large-scale operations to tackle regulatory breaches.

According to her,  the move forms part of government efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance in the mining sector.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, she explained, “We had also indicated that we were reviewing the small-scale licences regime. We started that exercise, and about 906 initially faced possible revocation. After a fair review to correct any irregularities, 258 small-scale licences were eventually revoked,”

“Today, we have 50 large-scale mining licences that face possible revocation,” she stated.

“If you find your company’s name on that list, you have a one-month period to correct or rectify the anomalies, if you have a legitimate reason why your licence should not be revoked,” she said.

Meanwhile, it will be recalled that the Lands Minister, some months ago, revoked 278 small-scale mining licenses over regulatory breaches and expiration of licenses.

The ministry decision was announced by the Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 23.

The move forms part of the government’s renewed effort to bring order and accountability to the small-scale mining sector.

Paa Kwesi Schandorf highlighted that the revocation targeted operators who failed to meet environmental and safety requirements and continued mining activities without renewing their license validity period.

“Ten individuals were promised NPP running mate slot” – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has made a shocking revelation ahead of the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.

According to Kenned Agyapong, at least ten individuals were promised the running mate position ahead of the 2024 elections.

He revealed that when it was time for a running mate to be selected, all ten individuals were snubbed.

Ken Agyapong further stressed that, as for him, he is promising jobs for the people.

Speaking to NPP delegates, Ken Agyapong stated, “We vote to gain profit, we don’t vote for a loss, we don’t vote and go into suffering. Quite recently, you heard what someone said, that ‘Kennedy Agyapong is strict, so when he becomes president, I will not get any appointment’.

That is the same way it does among you; the most surprising thing is that one post can be promised to ten people. The vice president position was promised ot ten people. When it got to the point of selecting a vice president, they were snubbed.

I am pleading with you, as for me, I am saying I will bring jobs”, he added.

In the video shared on Kennedy Agyapong’s social media page, he wrote, “At least ten individuals were promised the running mate position, and today we are witnessing the consequences of politics driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.

The fundamental question remains: with the vast land and natural resources at our disposal, why are we still unable to create sustainable jobs for our people?

Leadership must shift from the pursuit of positions to the delivery of opportunities”.

His comments follow, the former  Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has boldly stated political future hinges on the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becoming president and not Kennedy Agyapong.

According to Adwoa Safo, she does not hate Kennedy Agyapong as she has two children with him, but everyone has their own mind when it comes to politics, adding that her political career and future are at stake when Mr Agyapong emerge as the party’s leader and eventually becomes President.

She noted that the Kennedy Agyapong, she knows, would never appoint her, and that is why her political career and future would be at stake if he becomes president.

She highlighted that the NPP in government were practing family and friends, which caused the party’s defeat, adding that lessons must be learnt from the defeat.

Speaking to NPP delegates, Adwoa Safo stated, “I am a Politician, and Kennedy Agyapong is a politician; there are a lot of delegates here whose husbands are polling station executives, and the wife is also a polling station executive, don’t we all have our minds in politics.

Kennedy Agyapong has his own mind and ambition, and I am also doing my politics. I do not hate Kennedy Agyapong; I have two children with him, but we are not doing family and friends in the NPP.

The opposition that we are in, we must learn lessons from it; we sat in government doing family and friends, and we are here today, so the external politics, I am not going to do family and friends”, she added.

Adwoa Safo added, “When I stood to contest in the year 2007 till now, I have served as a member of parliament for twelve years, I have been deputy majority leader, minister for procurement, minister for Gender, have I not served you?

Looking at the work I have done and how I have served this nation and my party, for someone I have two children with to consider appointing me as a minister would seem impossible; hell will break loose in this country. And the Kennedy Agyapong I know, with whom I have two children, would never do it. Therefore, my political career and future are at stake. My future lies with Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia”.

“The Kennedy Agyapong I know would never appoint me, and that is why my political career and my future would be at stake if he becomes president,” she stated.
