Is BoG Governor Dr Johnson Asiama preparing for a presidential bid?

Reports coming in allege that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, is reportedly nurturing a presidential ambition.

The information was shared by Blakk Rasta, a Ghanaian reggae artiste and media personality, on his show The Black Pot.

Blakk Rasta alleged that Dr Johnson Asiama is also nurturing a presidential ambition to succeed President John Mahama.

According to Blakk Rasta, there is an intense power play happening between Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama.

According to the reports, the Intense power play between the Finance Minister and BoG Boss is threatening GoldBod operations, which is led by Sammy Gyamfi.

Blakk Rasta highlighted that Ato Forson and Dr Asiama, who are supposed to work hand in hand, are rather fighting each other because the two have presidential ambitions.

He alleged that the two giants are trying to do whatever they can to put something aside for the rainy day.

Speaking on The Black Pot, Blakk Rasta narrated, “Ato Forson is still forcing, but his forcing is based on GoldBod; then there is also Dr Johnson, the governor of the Bank of Ghana. The two are supposed to work hand in hand. Ato Forson and Johnson Asiamah with Goldbod in the middle. They are both supposed to push GoldBod left, right, and centre, rock it nicely on the very, very turbulent waters to be able to arrive safely.

But it looks like the two of them have a conflict, and this is exclusive”.

Blakk Rasta further alleged, “These are the two giants. And they are fighting. Why are they fighting? Maybe they are disagreeing, and it’s all about GoldBod information reaching me has it that the two allegedly have presidential ambitions; Ato Forson is eyeing the presidency. Dr Johnson is also eyeing the presidency, and as it stands, they both are trying to do whatever they can to put something aside, and when I say something aside, understand for the rainy day.

What is the rainy day? Their personal ambition to succeed the president, and that is rocking GoldBod badly. Sammy Gyamfi has become the sacrifice. He is sitting on GoldBod, and two giant elephants under an umbrella are fighting. This man here has so much experience. He is 10 years older than Ato Forson. He has so much experience in banking. This is what he wants, and we are hearing that some of them may even be compromised with the IMF and the World Bank; as to what that means, I don’t know.

Black Rasta further revealed that attempts to speak to GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi about the power play between Dr Forson and Dr Asiamah have proved futile.

He further narrated, “Who really is the problem? Is it John Asiamah, or is it Ato Forson, or is it both? Ghana first in everything we do; all egos must be put aside, personal ambitions must be put aside, until the Titanic crosses the oceans and beds properly, or else we are going to mess up the country, and at the end of the day we would have had the bed in hand.

Let it go running after one in the wild. I placed a call to Sammy Gyamfi to ask him about this. He didn’t answer. I sent him a message and told him that I wanted to talk to him about this. He still did not answer. It meant that he was not interested in speaking about this. But whatever it is, my brother is Ghana first”.

He further disclosed that President Mahama is aware of the intense power play between the Finance Minister and BoG Boss.

“I hear the president is aware of this. He has called the two parties or the three parties. He has spoken to them. But it looks like it’s happening. It’s still underground, and it’s affecting GoldBod. It is affecting GoldBod. It is affecting Gold. As for Sammy Gyamfi, he’s doing his very best.

He’s the poster kid of the president. He has no presidential ambitions, at least not now. He’s looking at leaving a strong legacy. But the two giants, if we are not careful, they will sink the Titanic”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed a ban on all party members engaging in early presidential campaigns to succeed President John Mahama and focus on the Reset Agenda.

According to the NDC Council of Elders, the directive follows a meeting between them and President John Dramani Mahama.

The NDC Council of Elders noted that they have observed the premature presidential campaigns and related political activities by some individuals and groups within the party, adding that the party’s current focus should be supporting the government to deliver on its mandate and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

The Council stressed that the focus should be on the President Mahama Reset Agenda, highlighting that the time for internal contests will come.

Yaseer Arafat, a science teacher at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region, who was caught in a viral sex video scandal with a female student in a school laboratory, has opened up once again.

The Bole SHS teacher disclosed that he has been dating the lady who was seen in the viral video, shockingly adding that he is willing to marry the young lady.

Speaking in a viral video, the teacher appealed to Ghanaians and the government for forgiveness.

“I want to go and marry the lady. She is my girlfriend, and we were already dating.

For now, what Ghanaians say is what the government will listen to. If I am sacked, where do I go from here?” he said.

In an earlier video, the Bole SHS teacher appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and government to transfer him to a village school as punishment.

In a viral video, the Bole teacher appealed to GES to rescind their decision to sack him from the teaching profession.

According to the Bole SHS teacher, he has learnt his lessons, describing his action as unfortunate.

Speaking in a viral video, the Bole Teacher stated, “What happened was unfortunate. The students had completed school and so I went to the science lab to pick up something, and the incident happened.

“I want to apologise to Ghanaians, and I have heard they [authorities] have sacked me from the teaching job. They should forgive me for what happened. I admit that my actions were bad and so they should forgive me,” he said.

He further appealed to the government to transfer him to another school, saying, “I am pleading with the government to at least transfer me to a village as punishment. I have learnt my lessons from what happened,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has urged the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher.

The Education Ministry noted that the Bole SHS teacher remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was launched.

On Tuesday, July 14, in a statement issued and signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, expressed concern over the suspect’s continued evasion of arrest.

Parts of the statement read, “The Ministry of Education urges the Ghana Police Service to, as a matter of urgency, locate and arrest the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher, who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was announced”.

The Education Ministry cited the recent interview in which the Bole SHS Teacher called on the Ghana Education Service to transfer him to a village rather than dismiss him, adding that the interview should provide investigators with useful leads.

“We believe that with intensified efforts, including digital tracking and contacting the source which reported his flimsy excuse, the Police could successfully locate him”, the Ministry stated.

They further disclosed that the teacher’s conduct was deliberate rather than accidental.

“Information available to us indicates that contrary to what he claimed in his recent interview, his unprofessional conduct was deliberate and intentional”, it said.

The Education Ministry further alleged additional videos have been unearthed showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate conduct with other female students.

“Based on what we know so far, we believe that the now disgraced and interdicted teacher used his privileged position as a teacher to exploit vulnerable female students,” the statement added.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aspiring National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has broken his silence following his release from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) detention.

Miracles Aboagye disclosed that he remains unshaken by his recent arrest by the EOCO, adding that if the intention was to break or scare him, it has failed.

According to Miracles Aboagye, his experience at EOCO had only strengthened his resolve and increased his capacity to serve.

In a X post on July 15, 2026, following his release from detention, Miracles Aboagye wrote, I AM OUT. I AM UNBROKEN. AND I AM MORE READY THAN EVER. THANK YOU, PATRIOTS!

Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO. His post comes on the heels of his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Miracles Aboagye was released after meeting his GH¢50 million bail conditions set by EOCO.

His release follows three days of detention after he was picked up by EOCO officials at the Accra International Airport in connection with ongoing investigations.

Reports suggest former Western North Regional Minister Jooji Rocky Obeng stepped in as surety for Miracles Aboagye’s GH¢50 million bail.

Earlier, Samuel Atta Akyea, the lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye, fired shots at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the bail conditions granted for his client.

The lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye expressed his disappointment with the bail condition, suggesting that the GHC50m bail condition with three sureties slapped on his client could make his release difficult.

Atta Akyea questioned how Miracle Aboagye would be able to secure GH¢50 million in bail with three sureties within such a limited timeframe.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, July 13, 2026, Atta Akyea described Miracle Aboagye’s GH¢50m bail conditions as cruel and oppressive.

He stated, “Democracy and the rule of law have been reversed. A man who is not running away and is decent enough to go through Kotoka International Airport is arrested and has been detained all this while. I don’t believe that’s how we should conduct our affairs by treating him as if he’s a common criminal.

“The bail conditions are cruel and oppressive. At this very hour, they are about to exceed the 48 hours as enshrined in the Constitution”, he said.

“Where is this gentleman going to get three sureties for a GH¢50 million bail sum? The properties should be worth GH¢50 million, and two people should own such properties.

“How is he going to do it? So you can clearly see that the bail terms are cruel and are a way to punish him as well.

“How is he going to be released? How is he going to meet the bail conditions? In this critical hour, how is he going to find those sureties?” he added.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aspiring National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following his release from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) detention, has disclosed that the alleged GH¢55 million in financial and procurement-related irregularities was never raised during his engagement with EOCO investigators.

It will be recalled that following Miracles Aboagye’s arrest, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, by EOCO read, “The former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, Mr Dennis Aboagye, a.k.a. “Miraeles,” the former Accountant of IMCCoD, Mr Gerald Appiah, and others are under investigation for suspected offences including:

1. conspiracy to steal and stealing

2. Using public office for profit

3. Causing financial loss to the State

4. Dissipation of public funds

5. Defrauding by false pretences

6. Money laundering

7. Other suspected offences”

However,  following his release from EOCO, he alleged that the GH¢55 million in financial and procurement-related irregularities was not discussed.

BoG officials, police officers storm Zeepay head office a day after licence revocation

Reports suggest Officials of the Bank of Ghana, accompanied by police officers, have stormed the headquarters of Zeepay Ghana.

The development comes a day after the Bank of Ghana (BoG) revoked the Zeepay Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) licence over multiple regulatory breaches.

According to Citi Business News, the Zeepay office was closed, with security personnel stationed at the entrance, with officials from the Bank of Ghana inside the facility.

The information gathered also suggests copies of the central bank’s notice revoking Zeepay’s licence had been pasted on the walls of the building.

Meanwhile, Citi Business News disclosed that management indicated they were not ready to comment on the development.

The development follows the  Bank of Ghana (BoG) who revoked Zeepay Ghana Ltd’s electronic money licence, led by CEO Andrew Takyi-Appiah.

Reports suggest the BoG revoked Zeepay’s E-Money licence over multiple regulatory breaches, failure to comply with supervisory directives and risks to users of the payment service ecosystem.

In a public notice dated July 14, 2026, the BoG announced that the revocation takes immediate effect and was issued pursuant to Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019, Act 987.

The BoG statement reads, “Pursuant to Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987 he Bank of Ghana announces the revocation of the Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) Licence of Zeepay Ghana LTD (Zeepay) with effect from today, 14 July 2026.

The revocation of Zeepay’s DEMI Licence is based on multiple regulatory breaches and its persistent failure to comply with regulatory directives and the terms and conditions of its DEMI Licence. Zeepay’s non-compliance is detrimental to the interests of users and providers in the payment service ecosystem. Specifically, Zeepay:

i. Issued electronic money without maintaining corresponding cash backing, resulting in a negative\ variance and failed to rectify the associated risk exposure to customers and the payment system.

i. Failed to comply with directives by the Bank of Ghana to

The information coming in alleges that there is an intense power play happening between Ghana’s Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Dr Johnson Asiamah.

According to the reports, the Intense power play between the Finance Minister and BoG Boss is threatening GoldBod operations, which is led by Sammy Gyamfi.

The information was shared by Blakk Rasta, a Ghanaian reggae artiste and media personality, on his show The Black Pot.

Speaking on The Black Pot, Blakk Rasta narrated the whole power play between the Finance Minister and BoG Boss that threatens GoldBod operations, saying, “GoldBod is rocked by the Ato Forson and Johnson Asiamah power play.

Now, the GoldBod is the heartbeat of the Ghanaian economy, and the boss of the GoldBod is a guy called Sammy Gyamfi. He’s been able to use his brains to drive the country around the GoldBod, and the country is doing so well.

The economy of the nation is booming. Long story cut short, the dollar started to show a lot of respect to the Ghanaian cedi from when the gold board was established. Many were shocked by the speed with which the Mahama government was able to resurrect the dead economy that Nana Addo and Bawumia unleashed on Ghanaians”.

He added, “Economists around the world, including economists from Bloomberg, have all been shocked at the rapidity with which GoldBod has been able to fix the Ghanaian economy. So Sammy Gyamfi is a poster kid of John Dramani Mahama. He doesn’t play with him at all. This guy here is a very, very philanthropic guy. A lot of people love him. When you meet him, at least he’ll give you a handshake that is so wet with grease. As to what kind of grease it is, I wouldn’t be able to tell. But this is Sammy Gyamfi.

There’s a danger looming, and if we are not careful, GoldBod may crash. Remember where you heard it first. There’s a power play, presumably, between two giants. One is the finance minister of the republic, and the other is the boss of the Bank of Ghana”.

Blakk Rasta highlighted that Ato Forson and Dr Asiamah, who are supposed to work hand in hand, are rather fighting each other because the two have presidential ambitions.

He alleged that the two giants are trying to do whatever they can to put something aside for the rainy day.

He added, “Ato Forson is still forcing, but his forcing is based on GoldBod; then there is also Dr Johnson, the governor of the Bank of Ghana. The two are supposed to work hand in hand. Ato Forson and Johnson Asiamah with Goldbod in the middle. They are both supposed to push GoldBod left, right, and centre, rock it nicely on the very, very turbulent waters to be able to arrive safely.

But it looks like the two of them have a conflict, and this is exclusive”.

Blakk Rasta further alleged, “These are the two giants. And they are fighting. Why are they fighting? Maybe they are disagreeing, and it’s all about GoldBod information reaching me has it that the two allegedly have presidential ambitions; Ato Forson is eyeing the presidency. Dr Johnson is also eyeing the presidency, and as it stands, they both are trying to do whatever they can to put something aside, and when I say something aside, understand for the rainy day.

What is the rainy day? Their personal ambition to succeed the president, and that is rocking GoldBod badly. Sammy Gyamfi has become the sacrifice. He is sitting on GoldBod, and two giant elephants under an umbrella are fighting. This man here has so much experience. He is 10 years older than Ato Forson. He has so much experience in banking. This is what he wants, and we are hearing that some of them may even be compromised with the IMF and the World Bank; as to what that means, I don’t know.

Black Rasta further revealed that attempts to speak to GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi about the power play between Dr Forson and Dr Asiamah have proved futile.

He further narrated, “Who really is the problem? Is it John Asiamah, or is it Ato Forson, or is it both? Ghana first in everything we do; all egos must be put aside, personal ambitions must be put aside, until the Titanic crosses the oceans and beds properly, or else we are going to mess up the country, and at the end of the day we would have had the bed in hand.

Let it go running after one in the wild. I placed a call to Sammy Gyamfi to ask him about this. He didn’t answer. I sent him a message and told him that I wanted to talk to him about this. He still did not answer. It meant that he was not interested in speaking about this. But whatever it is, my brother is Ghana first”.

He further disclosed that President Mahama is aware of the intense power play between the Finance Minister and BoG Boss and has spoken to them, but the conflict is still happening underground, which is affecting GoldBod.

“I hear the president is aware of this. He has called the two parties or the three parties. He has spoken to them. But it looks like it’s happening. It’s still underground, and it’s affecting GoldBod. It is affecting GoldBod. It is affecting Gold. As for Sammy Gyamfi, he’s doing his very best.

He’s the poster kid of the president. He has no presidential ambitions, at least not now. He’s looking at leaving a strong legacy. But the two giants, if we are not careful, they will sink the Titanic”, he added.

Wontumi’s lawyer files written address asking Judge to stay July 20 judgment in Samreboi case

Samuel Atta Akyea, a lawyer for NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have filed a written address in the Accra High Court asking the presiding judge to stay the delivery of judgment in the Samreboi illegal mining case.

On July 13, 2026, the written address was filed by Samuel Atta Akyea of Zoe, Akyea & Co. on July 13, 2026.

Atta Akyea, in the written address, argued that certain sections of the Minerals and Mining Act under which Wontumi and his co-accused are charged may be unconstitutional and should be determined by the Supreme Court before any judgment is delivered.

They urged the court to refer three constitutional questions to the Supreme Court for determination, “including whether Section 14(1) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, is legally vague, overbroad, and inconsistent with Article 19(11) of the 1992 Constitution, and whether Section 99(2)(b) of the same Act, as amended in 2019, is similarly unconstitutional, null, and void”.

They further added that should the court decline to refer the matter to the Supreme Court, the defence urges the judge to hold that the prosecution has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and acquit and discharge Wontumi and his co-accused on all charges.

“Our criminal justice system remains firmly anchored on the constitutional presumption of innocence and the enduring principle that it is preferable for ninety-nine guilty persons to escape punishment than for an innocent person to be wrongly convicted.

“Where, as here, the evidence leaves substantial doubt as to the guilt of A1 and A3, the Court has but one legal duty: to acquit A1 and A3,” the written address stated.

Meanwhile, an Accra High Court has granted counsel for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, an extension of time to file a written address in his Samreboi illegal mining case.

On Monday, June 29, Wontumi’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, was given until  July 13, 2026, to file any written submissions he intends to rely on.

The court also adjourned the case to July 20, 2026, when it is expected to deliver its judgment.

Earlier, the  Office of the Attorney General has opposed an application filed by defence lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea seeking to defer judgment in the Samreboi illegal mining case involving Chairman Wontumi and others.

The AG office, in an affidavit filed at the High Court in Accra, detailed that the deferment is unjustified and should be dismissed outright.

Nana Ama Prempeh, a Senior State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General, in a 13-paragraph affidavit, firmly opposed the motion for deferment.

According to the prosecution, the accused person had been represented by legal counsel throughout the duration of the trial, and the withdrawal of his previous lawyer was voluntary.

In a Facebook post the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) wrote, “In a 13-paragraph affidavit in opposition deposed to by Nana Ama Prempeh, a Senior State Attorney, and filed this afternoon, the Attorney General strongly argues that the accused person having been represented by Counsel throughout the trial and that Counsel only withdrawing voluntarily and not for cause, the proper source for a new Lawyer to procure the records of and any brief or briefing on the case is the outgoing counsel and not the Court’s Registry”.

The Attorney General’s affidavit follows, the counsel for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Samuel Atta Akyea, has filed an application before the High Court seeking a postponement of his client’s judgment in the ongoing Samreboi mining case.

Atta Akyea, in his application filed before Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, is asking the court to defer the delivery of judgment scheduled for July 3, 2026.

He is asking the court for sufficient time to familiarise himself with the case and prepare written submissions on behalf of his clients.

According to Atta Akyea, written submissions constitute an important component of criminal proceedings and often provide counsel with the opportunity to highlight key legal and factual issues that may assist the court in their decision.

Part of the affidavit filed by Wontumi’s lawyer read, “As counsel presently on record for the accused persons, it is necessary that I be afforded a reasonable opportunity to familiarise myself with the record and advise my clients appropriately”.

Atta Akyea stressed that the outcome of the case could have significant implications for their liberty, reputation, rights, and interests, making effective legal representation essential.

He argued that the constitutional right to a fair trial necessarily includes the right of an accused person to effective legal representation at every stage of criminal proceedings, comprising the period closely preceding judgment.

Atta Akyea highlighted that denying him the opportunity to review the proceedings and prepare a comprehensive submission would place his clients at a substantial disadvantage, especially when the prosecution team led by the Attorney-General.

“The Republic is ably represented by the Hon. Attorney-General and his formidable team, who will put together a written submission ostensibly to hammer out the guilt of the accused persons”.

“The sole purpose of this application is to enable me to obtain and peruse the record of proceedings before judgment is delivered”, the affidavit states.

Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has clashed with the Minority leader of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin, over the arrest of arrest and detention of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

Afenyo-Markin on the floor of Parliament demanded that the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, appear before Parliament to explain the arrest and detention.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “Mr Speaker, what is happening to Miracles Aboagye is not good for our democracy. The Attorney General should come to this House and brief the House on the situation”.

“We are not against accountability. We are against the Rambo style,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin further issued a warning to his colleagues on both sides of the House that the current treatment of an opposition figure could one day be visited upon them.

“Our colleagues should not be up in arms. It can be you tomorrow. Let’s be careful, my dear political colleagues. Let’s be careful, Ghanaian political leaders. It can be somebody today. There is an election ahead. You can never tell. Don’t let us encourage some of these excesses. And when we talk about it, don’t look at it with a partisan lens. It can be you,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin also raised concerns about the bail conditions imposed on Miracles Aboagye, saying, “He has a wife and children. Already, the man was affected by the floods. He lost everything. He’s already traumatised. Then, to worsen it, you detain him for three days, and you say if he wants his freedom, he should bring properties worth 50 million cedis. How do you do this?”.

Reacting to the Minority Leader’s demands, Dafeamekpor argued that the MAfenyo-Markin has no basis to request the Attorney General’s appearance over an ongoing investigation being conducted by EOCO.

Dafeamekpor said, “The Minority Leader has no right under the sun to suggest that where an investigative body has conducted a year-long investigation into a matter, has invited the suspects, and now has made a prima facie determination and is effecting an arrest that may possibly lead to prosecution, we should invite the Attorney General to come and respond to what?”.

He further accused the Minority of taking an inconsistent position on public accountability, adding that the Minority had previously urged politicians to hold public officials accountable for their actions but are now defending a public office holder facing investigation.

“Is it not the same man who stands on this floor encouraging us that we as politicians should be careful and that it is the public servants who do all the things that we get blamed for? And today, when the public servant is being blamed, you are saying that he shouldn’t be blamed?”, he asked.

“So, by all means, we can do politics, but some of the things, Mr Speaker, must not be countenanced on this floor”, he stated.

Meanwhile, viral videos have surfaced on social media following the release of Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Reports suggest former Western North Regional Minister Joojo Rocky Obeng stepped in as surety for Miracles Aboagye’s GH¢50 million bail.

In the viral videos, Miracles Aboagye was clad in a white shirt, being assisted as he made his way from the EOCO offices to a waiting vehicle.

NPP supporters who had camped outside the EOCO headquarters since the morning of July 13, 2026, cheered him and immediately entered the waiting vehicle.

Also, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, by EOCO read, “The former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, Mr Dennis Aboagye, a.k.a. “Miraeles,” the former Accountant of IMCCoD, Mr Gerald Appiah, and others are under investigation for suspected offences including:

1. conspiracy to steal and stealing

2. Using public office for profit

3. Causing financial loss to the State

4. Dissipation of public funds

5. Defrauding by false pretences

6. Money laundering

7. Other suspected offences”

Intensify search for Bole SHS teacher in viral video – Education Ministry tells Police

The Ministry of Education has urged the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher.

The Education Ministry noted that the Bole SHS teacher remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was launched.

On Tuesday, July 14, in a statement issued and signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, expressed concern over the suspect’s continued evasion of arrest.

Parts of the statement read, “The Ministry of Education urges the Ghana Police Service to, as a matter of urgency, locate and arrest the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher, who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was announced”.

The Education Ministry cited the recent interview in which the Bole SHS Teacher called on the Ghana Education Service to transfer him to a village rather than dismiss him, adding that the interview should provide investigators with useful leads.

“We believe that with intensified efforts, including digital tracking and contacting the source which reported his flimsy excuse, the Police could successfully locate him”, the Ministry stated.

They further disclosed that the teacher’s conduct was deliberate rather than accidental.

“Information available to us indicates that contrary to what he claimed in his recent interview, his unprofessional conduct was deliberate and intentional”, it said.

The Education Ministry further alleged additional videos have been unearthed showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate conduct with other female students.

“Based on what we know so far, we believe that the now disgraced and interdicted teacher used his privileged position as a teacher to exploit vulnerable female students,” the statement added.

The Education Ministry statement comes on the heels of the Bole SHS teacher appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and government to transfer him to a village school as punishment.

In a viral video, the Bole teacher appealed to GES to rescind their decision to sack him from the teaching profession.

According to the Bole SHS teacher, he has learnt his lessons, describing his action as unfortunate.

Speaking in a viral video, the Bole Teacher stated, “What happened was unfortunate. The students had completed school and so I went to the science lab to pick up something, and the incident happened.

“I want to apologise to Ghanaians, and I have heard they [authorities] have sacked me from the teaching job. They should forgive me for what happened. I admit that my actions were bad and so they should forgive me,” he said.

He further appealed to the government to transfer him to another school, saying, “I am pleading with the government to at least transfer me to a village as punishment. I have learnt my lessons from what happened,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has disclosed that the Bole Senior High School teacher in the viral sexual misconduct video is on the run.

According to Dr Apaak, the Bole SHS teacher has allegedly gone into hiding after a viral video emerged.

He further called on Ghanaians to help the Security agencies track the Bole SHS teacher, as efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.

The Deputy Minister of Education further disclosed that the matter is being treated as an utmost urgency.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, June 24, Deputy Minister of Education stated, “Our checks indicate that the teacher has gone into hiding. We know that law enforcement is also playing its part, and he is being sought after. If Ghanaians can assist law enforcement to apprehend him, it would be very helpful”.

Also, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing sexual misconduct involving the teacher and a student.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate beneficiaries of the government’s Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme who allegedly consumed the birds.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin quizzed the NDC government if they are going to take their party members who consumed the Nkoko Nkitinkiti, which were meant to be reared, to EOCO for accountability.

Afenyo-Markin argued that the Nkoko Nkitinkiti were provided under a state-funded intervention designed to support livelihoods and boost poultry production, and therefore beneficiaries who consumed them should be held accountable for the misuse of public resources.

On the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 14, during discussions on the implementation of the programme, Afenyo-Markin stated, “They have eaten it. They were supposed to rear the birds and sell and reinvest. Now that they have consumed the birds, what will become of them? What is the accountability in it?”

The Minority leader highlighted that if the Mahama government is pursuing accountability in the use of public funds, Nkoko Nkitinkiti beneficiaries who consumed the birds should also be investigated.

“You guys are talking about accountability, so your party members who got the birds that they said they have consumed and have given evidence to the Minister, are you going to send them to EOCO? Because it is state funds, it also amounts to looting; however, the amount,” he said.

His comments come on the heels of Eric Opoku, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, revealing that some beneficiaries of Nkoko Nkitinkiti projects have consumed the birds.

The Agric Minister expressed concern over reports that some households are slaughtering and consuming birds.

According to the Agric Minister, the immediate consumption of the birds deviates from the purpose of the programme.

He highlighted that the birds were given to people to rear them and to sell them to reinvest.

Speaking when he appeared before Parliament’s Committee on Assurances on July 9, 2026, the Agric Minister stated, “Some decided to kill and eat all, infact they were even sending me videos that, ‘ Honourable, we are eating everything, but this is not meant for that immediate consumption; we just wanted people to rear them, sell and reinvest so it becomes business ‘.

He added, “Even though we don’t encourage that, we wanted them to capitalise on them to earn something for their livelihood. If that is what they have decided to do at the national level in aggregation, it also helps.

If they are able to build a good taste for locally produced poultry, that is a big plus for us”.

It will be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama officially launched the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative.

The flagship NDC nationwide programme aimed at transforming household poultry production and revitalising Ghana’s poultry industry.

President Mahama, at the launch in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 12, described the initiative as a bold and practical step towards achieving food self-sufficiency.

U.S. Attorney’s Office has disclosed that International law enforcement agencies have seized assets allegedly linked to Ghanaian national Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office disclosed that Abu Trica’s assets, including his  Swedru mansion, Lamborghini, Tesla Cybertruck, and BMW i8, have been seized.  

The United States prosecutors have alleged that Abu Trica defrauded over 80 elderly victims of more than $8m in a romance scam.

According to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio following Kumi’s extradition from Ghana to the United States to face charges, Abu Trica used artificial intelligence-driven technology and fake online identities to orchestrate a romance scam.

They disclosed that Abu Trica, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy, faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Parts of the report stated“…After being misled by false stories of gold or diamond inheritances, the victims sent money via wire transfer to financial accounts controlled by conspiracy members. Portions of the funds were further provided to co-conspirators in Ghana and elsewhere. Kumi and other co-conspirators used money mules based in Ghana and contacts in the Ghanaian immigrant community in the U.S. to launder millions of dollars through fake businesses and bank accounts.

“Kumi allegedly used his ill-gotten gains to acquire luxury vehicles and other items of value. Assets seized by international law enforcement partners included a mansion in Ghana, a Lamborghini, a Tesla Cybertruck, a Mercedes-Benz, and a BMW”, the report stated.

“Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. Additionally, his ill-gotten gains are subject to forfeiture. Kumi faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment.

If convicted, each defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to the case, including each defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offence, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, they will be less than the maximum”, it added.

An NPP delegate has alleged that Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah fired a warning shot during the disturbances that disrupted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections.

According to the NPP delegate, she personally witnessed Okatakyie Afrifa with a gun and firing a warning shot.  

Speaking to the media in a video shared by Ghana Chronicles, the NPP delegate stated, “We were all standing preparing for everything to go well; that was even the first time I have seen him. I have never seen him before.

He came along with bodyguards and Machoman wearing masks. I was standing in front of the Mission House when some people disclosed that he was Okatakyie”.

She further alleged, “He began destroying the materials that would be used for the election, saying they would not allow the elections to proceed. He was also part; even the commander was trying to calm him down, but he pushed the commander, and he fell.

The Police also got enraged after he pushed their commander; then Okatakyie fired a gunshot. He fired it himself; I was just standing here watching them”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti North Region have confirmed that media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was arrested following disturbances that disrupted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections.

According to the Police, the suspect, Kwame Afrifa Mensah, aged 43, was arrested together with six others to assist with investigations.

They further disclosed that the incident occurred at about 7:45 am on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the SDA Church polling station when Okatakyie led a group of about 30 macho men to the polling station.

In a statement issued by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command on Monday, July 13 detailed, “POLICE RESTORE CALM DURING NPP CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS AT WIAMOASE

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the public that the Police restored calm following a disturbance during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Efigya Sekyere East Constituency Executive Elections held at the SDA Church polling station, Wiamoase, in the Ashanti North Region.

On Sunday, 12th July 2026, at about 7:45 a.m, one Kwame Afrifa Mensah, aged 43 years, led a group of about thirty (30) macho men to the SDA Church polling station. When security personnel engaged the group to ascertain the purpose of their presence, they became aggressive, attacked the police, and disrupted the electoral process by throwing electoral materials onto the ground.

The suspected ring leader, Kwame Afrifa Mensah, together with six (6) others, were swiftly arrested to assist with investigations, while the remaining members of the group escaped. Efforts are underway to arrest the other suspects.

Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect Kwame Afrifa Mensah claimed that some of his supporters had been sidelined in the electoral process and that he had obtained an interlocutory injunction to halt the elections. However, neither the Electoral Commission nor the Police received any court order or injunction directing that the elections be suspended. Following the intervention of the police, calm was restored, and voting resumed under adequate security. The election ended peacefully at about 4:00 p.m., after which the Electoral Commission duly declared the results.

Later on the same day, suspect Afrifa Mensah and another suspect, Osman Awuni, aged 44 years, complained of ill health and were taken to the Mampong Government Hospital where they were ıdmitted for treatment. The two suspects remain under police guard while receiving treatment. Investigations are ongoing, and the public will be updated on any further developments”.

The Police statement follows, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, who was arrested following the chaos and violence that marred the  New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections in the Ashanti Region.

A US-based Ghanaian military officer has said it is better to live in the United States of America without papers than to remain unemployed or working without a better salary in Ghana.

 The US-based Ghanaian soldier, however, cautioned Ghanaians planning to travel abroad to avoid travelling as an undocumented immigrant without papers.

According to him, many foreigners living abroad are facing significant hardships due to their immigration status.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, the US-based Ghanaian military officer stated, “If you don’t have legal documents and you are living in America or any part of the world, you will suffer… but it is better to live here than to stay in Ghana without a job or a salary”.

The US-based Ghanaian military officer further revealed that many undocumented immigrants endure difficult situations in an attempt to regularise their status in the United States, including unfair treatment from their spouses.

According to the military officer, some undocumented immigrants even enter into marriages solely to obtain legal residency, only to face serious challenges later on in their marriage.

He further recounted a story of a man who allegedly lost his property to his American spouse because he feared the consequences of his immigration status and was unable to defend his rights.

Some netizens reacting to the US-based Ghanaian man’s remarks stated, “People don’t understand the whole Travel thing. Every day I ask, use the Kayoyos at Agbogbloshi as an example..

A Baby Mama of former Western North Regional Minister Joojo Rocky Obeng has dragged him on social media after standing in as surety for NPP communicator Miracles Aboagye’s GH¢50 million bail.

Reports suggest Joojo Rocky Obeng stepped in as surety for Miracles Aboagye’s GH¢50 million bail that was set by EOCO following his arrest at the Accra International Airport.

Reacting to the news, the former Minister’s baby mama called him out over his failure to pay his daughters’ school fees all year.

According to the Baby Mama, Joojo Rocky Obeng does not take care of his kids, but he’s granting interviews because he wants cheap hype.

She further called on EOCO to investigate the former Regional Minister’s finances, especially from 2020.

In a post on X, the Baby Mama wrote, “This man Joojo Rocky Obeng hasn’t paid his daughters’ school fees all year; neither does he take care of his kids, but he’s granting interviews because he wants cheap hype.

He’s a deadbeat, and because the whole world knows now, anywhere he’s not needed, as far as cameras are present, he will be present!!!

He’s slamming EOCO for doing their work when he fails at being a father to his kids.

That being said, EOCO, please investigate his finances, especially from 2020”.

In another post on X, the Baby Mama revealed that Joojo Rocky Obeng claimed he could not pay his daughter’s school fees, which was GHS8450, but he packaged himself to go and be a surety for someone else.

She wrote, “The comment section is cracking me up.

My son is sick, so I don’t have plenty spare time, but I’ve already responded.

Because he’s a Ken supporter and he’s losing credibility in the NPP now, he wants to “ ahoshesh3” team Bawumia.

He’s in court saying he cannot afford his daughter’s school fees, which was 8,450 gh btw, but he can package himself to go and be a surety for someone else.

Tomorrow we have court for the assault at 9 am at Dovvsu court; you people should remind him to show up before they give another arrest warrant for him”.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, by EOCO read, “The former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, Mr Dennis Aboagye, a.k.a. “Miraeles,” the former Accountant of IMCCoD, Mr Gerald Appiah and others are under investigation for suspected offences including:

1. conspiracy to steal and stealing

2. Using public office for profit

3. Causing financial loss to the State

4. Dissipation of public funds

5. Defrauding by false pretences

6. Money laundering

Abu Trica defrauded over 80 elderly victims of more than $8m in romance scam – US prosecutors

The United States prosecutors have alleged that Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, defrauded over 80 elderly victims of more than $8m in a romance scam.

According to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio following Kumi’s extradition from Ghana to the United States to face charges, Abu Trica used artificial intelligence-driven technology and fake online identities to orchestrate a romance scam.

 A report on the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio website read, “CLEVELAND – A 31-year-old Ghanaian National was extradited from the Republic of Ghana to face charges that involve defrauding more than 80 elderly victims out of more than $8 million.

According to court documents, Frederick Kumi, aka Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, aka Abu Trica, of Swedru, Ghana, and co-defendant Daniel Yussif, aka Denteni, aka Slab, 31, of Accra Ghana, were part of a criminal network that targeted elderly victims in romance scams across the United States since 2023. Kumi was arrested in Ghana Dec. 11, 2025, and extradited to the United States July 9.

Court records allege that from about April 2023 to November 2025, Kumi was part of a criminal network that devised romance fraud schemes to obtain money from elderly United States citizens. Kumi and Yussif acted as leaders of a group that used online dating sites and social media to identify and target their victims, who were often widows or divorcees. Kumi employed advanced techniques including AI-driven video platforms to engage with the victims under fictitious female personas. Others involved in the deception leveraged Ghanaian associates to communicate directly with victims via encrypted apps and by phone, to maintain the false identities used to facilitate the fraud. After being misled by false stories or gold or diamond inheritances, the victims sent money via wire transfer to financial accounts controlled by conspiracy members. Portions of the funds were further provided to co-conspirators in Ghana and elsewhere. Kumi and other co-conspirators used money mules based in Ghana, and contacts in the Ghanaian immigrant community in the U.S., to launder millions of dollars through fake businesses and bank accounts.

Kumi allegedly used his ill-gotten gains to acquire luxury vehicles and other items of value. Assets seized by international law enforcement partners included a mansion in Ghana, a Lamborghini, a Tesla Cybertruck, a Mercedes-Benz, and a BMW.

Kumi has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. Additionally, his ill-gotten gains are subject to forfeiture. Kumi faces up to 20 years imprisonment.

If convicted, each defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to the case, including each defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offence, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Each defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian M. McDonough and Elliot Morrison for the Northern District of Ohio”.

It will be recalled that Abu Trica was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025, and extradited to the United States on July 9, 2026.

His release follows three days of detention after he was picked up by EOCO officials at the Accra International Airport in connection with ongoing investigations.

Reports suggest former Western North Regional Minister Joojo Rocky Obeng stepped in as surety for Miracles Aboagye’s GH¢50 million bail.

In the viral videos, Miracles Aboagye was clad in a white shirt, being assisted as he made his way from the EOCO offices to a waiting vehicle.

NPP supporters who had camped outside the EOCO headquarters since the morning of July 13, 2026, cheered him and immediately entered the waiting vehicle.

Earlier, Samuel Atta Akyea, the lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye, fired shots at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the bail conditions granted for his client.

The lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye expressed his disappointment with the bail condition, suggesting that the GHC50m bail condition with three sureties slapped on his client could make his release difficult.

Atta Akyea questioned how Miracle Aboagye would be able to secure GH¢50 million in bail with three sureties within such a limited timeframe.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, July 13, 2026, Atta Akyea described Miracle Aboagye’s GH¢50m bail conditions as cruel and oppressive.

He stated, “Democracy and the rule of law have been reversed. A man who is not running away and is decent enough to go through Kotoka International Airport is arrested and has been detained all this while. I don’t believe that’s how we should conduct our affairs by treating him as if he’s a common criminal.

“The bail conditions are cruel and oppressive. At this very hour, they are about to exceed the 48 hours as enshrined in the Constitution”, he said.

“Where is this gentleman going to get three sureties for a GH¢50 million bail sum? The properties should be worth GH¢50 million, and two people should own such properties.

“How is he going to do it? So you can clearly see that the bail terms are cruel and are a way to punish him as well.

“How is he going to be released? How is he going to meet the bail conditions? In this critical hour, how is he going to find those sureties?” he added.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

Daniel McKorley, a renowned Ghanaian businessman and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, commonly known as McDan, has told young people under the age of 40 that age 40 is not the end of the story.

McDan highlighted that age 40 is when life becomes clear, with the illusions of youth fading; the mistakes of the past become lessons.

According to McDan, the real failure for young Ghanaians will be giving up before or at 40.

He stressed that the greatest thing one can still do for their parents is not to regret the past, but to use the clarity of this age to build a future that honours the sacrifices.

In a Facebook post, McDan wrote, “When I speak with many young people under the age of 40 at conferences and seminars, I don’t hear the laziness or lack of ambition that people accuse them of. I hear pressure. Pressure that tells them that they have failed their parents and haven’t done enough for them.

By the time many of us reach 40, a quiet realisation begins to set in. When our parents looked at us as children, they imagined that by this age, we would have built something solid, a career, a home, influence in society, and enough financial strength to support the family that once carried us. In their minds, 40 was the age when struggle should begin to fade, and responsibility would fully shift to us.

But reality has been very different for many young people.

Many men and women arrive at 40 still trying to figure life out. Some are battling unstable careers, some are still struggling financially, some are fixing mistakes made in their 20s/30s, and some are simply exhausted from carrying responsibilities that never seem to end.

The world has turned out to be far more complicated than the one our parents prepared us for.

In many African homes, there is an unspoken expectation: By 40, you are supposed to be the pillar of the family. The person younger siblings look up to. The one parents can depend on. The one who has “made it”. But instead, many people are still trying to stand firmly on their own feet.

Part of this is not entirely young people’s fault. Our parents grew up in a different economic reality. In their time, a single stable job could build a house, raise children, support extended family, and secure retirement. Today, that same formula doesn’t work. Inflation is brutal, job opportunities are scarce, salaries are low, and entire industries are constantly changing.

Yet, the guilt remains.

You watch your parents get older, and you wish you could do more for them. You wish you could ease their worries, comfort them, and show them that their years of sacrifice have truly produced something meaningful.

But the story does not end at 40.

40 is often the age when life becomes clearer. The illusions of youth fade, the mistakes of the past become lessons, and the urgency of time becomes real. It is the age when many people finally develop the focus, discipline, and perspective needed to build something meaningful.

So, the real failure is not arriving at 40, still figuring life out. The real failure would be giving up before or at 40.

The greatest thing you can still do for yourself and your parents is not to regret the past, but to use the clarity of this age to build a future that honours the sacrifices they made for you”.

Meanwhile, McDan has confidently declared that his net worth has surpassed the billion-dollar mark.

McDan revealed his years of hard work, risk-taking, and business expansions have driven him into the billionaire bracket.

Speaking on the Konnect Minds podcast on YouTube, McDan detailed, “The next billionaire will come from Africa, and those billionaires will be owning our own resources, so why do we leave the space of mining? Salt is a big thing”.

He added, “I mean, there are other Ghanaians moving up that list, but I’m almost there”.

When the host asked him if he wanted Forbes recognition, McDan answered, “Forbes for what?… I have passed billionaire, I have passed that level. My net worth has passed a billion.”

“I really admire your energy”, the host commented, drawing laughter.

Akosua Manu, an aide to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has questioned the perceived double standards in political accountability in Ghana.

According to Akosua Manu, bail conditions being set in relation to the alleged misappropriation or fraud sums do not make sense.

Akosua Manu cited the Big Push project, which is worth GHS40 billion, arguing that one should just imagine what the bail would be if the minister or anyone involved were accused or charged over misappropriation of funds.

Speaking on Metro TV Good Morning, Akosua Manu Kozie stated, “If you are charged or there is an allegation against you, and you are arrested. The amount for which it is believed you are involved in the bail conditions should be the same.

So you can imagine if you take a Ministry like Roads and Highways and you arrest the Ministers there along with the accountant there. How much is Big Push? worth GH¢40billion.

Let’s say GH$4 billion, so the minister and the deputy and the accountant on that project should power switch get called by whoever will be heading EOCO and says that there is an allegation on ABCD road project this is what happened and the sum involved is $1 billion, and your bail condition should be $1 billion does that make sense honestly.

That bail condition should be set on what is alleged. If you believe you have evidence, proceed to court and get the conviction you are looking for”.

Her comments follow Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the NPP Communications Team member, who was granted bail following his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has reportedly been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.

Richard Ahiagbah expressed hope that the bail conditions would be met or varied to enable Miracles to secure his release.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Richard Ahiagbah stated, “My earlier briefing was GH¢50 million with three sureties. I hope that condition is either met or varied for him to be granted bail”.

According to reports, Captain Smart’s free Ghana Card registration exercise started from Gomoa Mozano, as part of his efforts to become the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

Some netizens reacting to the video fired shots at Captain Smart for attempting to use a state-owned organisation to score political points.

“Foolish guy. Do you think you can win an election by using a state-owned organisation to score political points?”, the netizen wrote.

A netizen added, “So he wouldn’t have done this if he didn’t want to be an MP?

Oh Ghana, it is finished!”.

A netizen added, “Captain Smart for Gomoa West paaa deɛ nka Richard Gyan should continue being our MP apuuu”.

Captain Smart expressed his confidence in winning both the party’s primaries and the parliamentary election.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media on July 12, 2026, Captain Smart stated, “We need to change the face of politics…I will be contesting the NDC primaries, and I will win to become the Member of Parliament for this constituency”.

Captain Smart argued that concerns of residents have gone unheard for too long, stressing the need for responsive leadership.

“The cry is so loud, and it seems nobody is listening”, he stated.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media on July 12, 2026, Captain Smart stated, “We need to change the face of politics…I will be contesting the NDC primaries, and I will win to become the Member of Parliament for this constituency”.

Captain Smart argued that concerns of residents have gone unheard for too long, stressing the need for responsive leadership.

“The cry is so loud, and it seems nobody is listening”, he stated.

The Ghanaian media personality also highlighted some of the initiatives he claims to have supported in the constituency; Captain Smart stated, “We already have 42 boreholes, ten six-unit classroom blocks, free Wi-Fi, free Ghana Cards and other interventions”.

Meanwhile, Captain Smart’s declaration comes despite claims by some officials of the NDC that he is not a registered member of the party.

In other news, Captain Smart, a broadcast journalist, has thrown shade at former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during an event while introducing President John Dramani Mahama.

Captain Smart, in a viral video, was the master of ceremonies (MC) and introduced President Mahama to deliver his speech.

The broadcast Journalist introducing Mahama described him as a leader who listens to the people and does not discriminate.

He also asserted that President Mahama is a President who does not ask chiefs to stand before greeting them, as former President Akufo-Addo was noted for.

In the viral video, Captain Smart stated, “The president who listens, the president who does not discriminate, the president who does not ask chiefs to stand up before he greets them… help me welcome John Dramani Mahama”.

President Mahama, who was seated after the introduction, stood up, smiling and waved to the audience before taking his seat again.

Daniel McKorley, a renowned Ghanaian businessman and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, commonly known as McDan, has disclosed that when he speaks with many young people under the age of 40 at conferences and seminars, he does not hear laziness or a lack of ambition.

According to McDan, he hears pressure that tells him that they have failed their parents and haven’t done enough for them.

In a Facebook post, McDan wrote, “When I speak with many young people under the age of 40 at conferences and seminars, I don’t hear the laziness or lack of ambition that people accuse them of. I hear pressure. Pressure that tells them that they have failed their parents and haven’t done enough for them.

By the time many of us reach 40, a quiet realisation begins to set in. When our parents looked at us as children, they imagined that by this age, we would have built something solid, a career, a home, influence in society, and enough financial strength to support the family that once carried us. In their minds, 40 was the age when struggle should begin to fade, and responsibility would fully shift to us.

But reality has been very different for many young people.

Many men and women arrive at 40 still trying to figure life out. Some are battling unstable careers, some are still struggling financially, some are fixing mistakes made in their 20s/30s, and some are simply exhausted from carrying responsibilities that never seem to end.

The world has turned out to be far more complicated than the one our parents prepared us for.

In many African homes, there is an unspoken expectation: By 40, you are supposed to be the pillar of the family. The person younger siblings look up to. The one parents can depend on. The one who has “made it”. But instead, many people are still trying to stand firmly on their own feet.

Part of this is not entirely young people’s fault. Our parents grew up in a different economic reality. In their time, a single stable job could build a house, raise children, support extended family, and secure retirement. Today, that same formula doesn’t work. Inflation is brutal, job opportunities are scarce, salaries are low, and entire industries are constantly changing.

Yet, the guilt remains.

You watch your parents get older, and you wish you could do more for them. You wish you could ease their worries, comfort them, and show them that their years of sacrifice have truly produced something meaningful.

But the story does not end at 40.

40 is often the age when life becomes clearer. The illusions of youth fade, the mistakes of the past become lessons, and the urgency of time becomes real. It is the age when many people finally develop the focus, discipline, and perspective needed to build something meaningful.

So, the real failure is not arriving at 40, still figuring life out. The real failure would be giving up before or at 40.

The greatest thing you can still do for yourself and your parents is not to regret the past, but to use the clarity of this age to build a future that honours the sacrifices they made for you”.

Meanwhile, McDan, in a separate interview, has warned Ghanaian youths that marriage without money can derail them.

According to McDan, one must not marry if they don’t have money.

McDan further revealed that he was afraid of marriage because of  ‘chop money’

Speaking at the 2025 edition of PCH Hangouts at the ICGC The New Wine Temple, East Legon, McDan stated, “If you don’t have money, don’t marry. Marriage without money can derail you”.

“I couldn’t marry early because I was afraid of ‘chop money.’ I grew up in an environment where you could see a man physically abusing a woman because of money, and a woman verbally abusing a man because of money.

“So, the institution of marriage was scary for me,” he confessed.

The business mogul further advised Ghanaian youths who sleep more than eight hours a day to start sleeping for four hours.

He noted that young adults need to practice discipline, courage, and personal sacrifice to achieve success.

According to McDan, Ghanaian youths must cut back on sleep to invest more time in self-improvement and service to others.

McDan stated, “If you sleep eight hours a day, start sleeping four hours. Add the extra two hours in serving somebody. There’s a lot of benefit in service. So, start with yourself”.

McDan further noted that many Ghanaian youth are intelligent and full of potential, but often lack the discipline and “finishing power” to make their dreams a reality.

He added, “It’s not money. The finishing power. If you ask me to stop everything and focus on one thing, focus on yourself”.

“Discipline is what the Ghanaian youth need, discipline and a bit of courage. We have smart youth in this country, but they need a bit of discipline and a bit of courage”.

The senior high school teacher from Bole SHS who was caught on tape engaging in inappropriate acts with a student has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and government to transfer him to a village school as punishment.

In a viral video, the Bole teacher appealed to GES to rescind their decision to sack him from the teaching profession.

According to the Bole SHS teacher, he has learnt his lessons, describing his action as unfortunate.

Speaking in a viral video, the Bole Teacher stated, “What happened was unfortunate. The students had completed the school and so, I went to the science lab to pick up something, and the incident happened.

“I want to apologise to Ghanaians, and I have heard they [authorities] have sacked me from the teaching job. They should forgive me for what happened. I admit that my actions were bad and so they should forgive me,” he said.

He further appealed to the government to transfer him to another school, saying, “I am pleading with the government to at least transfer me to a village as punishment. I have learnt my lessons from what happened,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, has disclosed that the Bole Senior High School teacher in the viral sexual misconduct video is on the run.

According to Dr Apaak, the Bole SHS teacher has allegedly gone into hiding after a viral video emerged.

He further called on Ghanaians to help the Security agencies track the Bole SHS teacher, as efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.

The Deputy Minister of Education further disclosed that the matter is being treated as an utmost urgency.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, June 24, Deputy Minister of Education stated, “Our checks indicate that the teacher has gone into hiding. We know that law enforcement is also playing its part, and he is being sought after. If Ghanaians can assist law enforcement to apprehend him, it would be very helpful”.

Earlier, Dr Apaak called for sanctions to be imposed on both the teacher and the student in the Bole Senior High School sexual misconduct video.

Dr Apaak stressed that all parties must be held accountable under the rules governing Ghana’s education system.

He disclosed that the Ghana Education Service (GES) had acted appropriately by condemning the incident and launching investigations into the sexual misconduct case.

The  Deputy Minister for Education noted that the teachers bear a greater professional responsibility because of their position of authority but added that students also have an obligation to avoid situations that make them vulnerable to exploitation and to report inappropriate advances.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, June 20, Dr Apaak stated, “The Ghana Education Service has condemned it, and investigations are ongoing, and we expect that the sanctions will be applied for both the teacher and student because the student ought not to put herself in that situation to be exploited by the teacher, and the student also has the mandate to report because we have systems as and when teachers make advances”.

He added, “Within the context of our code, they are both culpable. They are culpable in this sense. The teacher has the responsibility to act professionally and, by the code of conduct, is prohibited from having any knowledge or exhibiting conduct that suggests amorous intent, as the role is to teach and to act in a way analogous to a parent.

“So it is assumed to be your responsibility as a parent to treat them as you will treat your kids. You are expected to protect them and to ensure that they are not put in situations that will endanger them physically, emotionally and spiritually,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing sexual misconduct involving the teacher and a student.

The Supreme Court has suspended the enforcement of the Court of Appeal’s decision that directed the restoration of the operating licence of GN Savings and Loans, pending the final determination of an appeal filed by the Bank of Ghana.

The Supreme Court has stayed the execution of the Court of Appeal’s decision, effectively suspending the enforcement of the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

The apex court ruling means GN Savings and Loans will not resume operations pending the determination of the Bank of Ghana’s appeal before the Supreme Court.

Reports follow the Bank of Ghana challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision that restored the licence of GN Savings and Loans Company Limited.

Court documents disclosed that the central bank is seeking to overturn the appellate court’s decision,

The BoG argued that the Court of Appeal erred in law when it proceeded “to hear and determine the appeal filed by applicants to the Court of Appeal.”

The development follows the Bank of Ghana (BoG), who were ordered by the Court of Appeal to restore the licence of GN Bank.

The appeal court ruling follows an earlier High Court ruling that upheld the revocation of the financial institution’s operating licence.

The Court of Appeal three-member panel directed that all assets of the bank be returned to its original owners.

The receiver has also been ordered to hand over management of the company to its previous management team.

The Court of Appeal ruling marks a major development in the long-running legal battle between GN Bank and the Bank of Ghana.

GN Bank, which officially commenced operations in 1997 as First National Savings and Loans (FNSL) Company Limited, was upgraded to a universal bank on September 4, 2014.

It expanded rapidly across the country, establishing one of the largest branch networks in the banking sector.

The central bank, however, at the time argued that its regulatory assessments revealed that GN Bank’s expansion was not supported by adequate capital buffers and sound risk management practices.

BoG discovered that GN Bank regularly breached key prudential requirements, including capital adequacy and liquidity ratios.

Also, the BoG, in its statement, showed high levels of non-performing loans (NPLs), significant exposure to related-party transactions, and poor corporate governance structures, which weakened the bank’s financial position over time.

Reports suggest that despite several directives and corrective measures issued by the BoG, comprising capital restoration plans and restrictions on certain banking activities, GN Bank was incapable of raising the required additional capital or restructuring its operations to restore solvency.

The bank was deemed severely undercapitalised and technically insolvent, prompting the BoG to ask the bank to downgrade to a savings and loans company, using the name GN Savings and Loans Company Ltd.

GN Bank’s license was then revoked in 2019 as part of the central bank’s efforts to protect depositors’ funds and stabilise the country’s financial sector.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has revoked Zeepay Ghana Ltd’s electronic money licence, led by CEO Andrew Takyi-Appiah

Reports suggest the BoG revoked Zeepay’s E-Money licence over multiple regulatory breaches, failure to comply with supervisory directives and risks to users of the payment service ecosystem.

In a public notice dated July 14, 2026, the BoG announced that the revocation takes immediate effect and was issued pursuant to Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019, Act 987.

The BoG statement reads, ““Pursuant to Section 13 of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987 he Bank of Ghana announces the revocation of the Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) Licence of Zeepay Ghana LTD (Zeepay) with effect from today, 14 July 2026.

The revocation of Zeepay’s DEMI Licence is based on multiple regulatory breaches and its persistent failure to comply with regulatory directives and the terms and conditions of its DEMI Licence. Zeepay’s non-compliance is detrimental to the interest of users and providers in the payment service ecosystem. Specifically, Zeepay:

i. Issued electronic money without maintaining corresponding cash backing, resulting in a negative\ variance and failed to rectify the associated risk exposure to customers and the payment system.

i. Failed to comply with directives by the Bank of Ghana to

a. Inject sufficient funds/to fully back the e-money balances of customers, agents/and merchants; and

b. Wind down its e-money issuance business

Zeepay’s continuous use of its DEMI licence constitutes a threat to the stability of the payment system.

In related news, some days ago, the home of Zeepay Ghana Limited and its Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Takyi-Appiah, was seized by court officials and police.

Reports suggest the Zeepay CEO home was seized in the early hours of Monday, July 6, 2026, as part of enforcement of a court judgment against him.

In a viral video shared on social media, some officials and vehicles were captured at a modern house.

Earlier, news broke that Andrew Takyi-Appiah had been ordered by the Commercial Division of the High Court to pay more than US$11.6 million to a customer over a failed transfer of funds.

Reports suggest the funds were deposited but allegedly not transferred as instructed.

The High Court decision follows legal action brought by the customer, indicating that Zeepay and its CEO failed to honour instructions to transfer substantial sums of money he had deposited.

The Ghana Chronicle, in a report, stated, “In its ruling, the court examined evidence relating to the deposits, correspondence exchanged between the customer, Zeepay officials and the company’s CEO, as well as the course of dealings between the parties.

According to the judgment, the court concluded that Zeepay and Mr Takyi-Appiah had failed to present a reasonable defence capable of warranting a full trial on the merits of the customer’s claims.

The court therefore entered judgment in favour of the customer and ordered the defendants to pay more than US$11.6 million, representing the funds at the centre of the dispute together with other applicable reliefs granted by the court.

The case is one of the largest publicly reported civil judgments involving a Ghanaian fintech company and underscores the legal obligations of payment service providers in handling customer funds”.

Mahama gov’t first-year performance scores 4.9 out of 10 – IERPP

The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) has rated President John Mahama’s government’s first year in office below average.

IERPP awarded the Mahama administration a score of 4.9 out of 10 for its performance in 2025.

According to the think tank, in its inaugural Performance Tracker report, infrastructure, energy, industry and manufacturing, governance, policy implementation, and social service delivery were key areas that affected the Mahama administration’s overall rating.

IERPP disclosed that the weaknesses in these sectors contributed significantly to the lower score, with infrastructure being a major factor.

They disclosed that capital expenditure execution remained a concern during the period under review.

Professor Isaac Boadi, the Executive Director of IERPP, detailed that the rating was based on an independent assessment of the Mahama government’s performance across various sectors.

“The team scored this administration 4.9% as against 10 for the year under review (2025). We identified five key areas that actually brought the number down, and one main area happens to be the infrastructure, which we know failed to spend, and the spending of this administration’s capital expenditure stood at 0.9% in 2025,” Professor Isaac Boadi stated.

Professor Boadi added that challenges in industry, manufacturing, social delivery, governance commitments, and the energy sector contributed to the overall score.

He added that IERPP concluded that the government’s first-year performance fell below expectations.

Meanwhile, the Global InfoAnalytics latest tracking poll has revealed that 71% of Ghanaians currently approve President John Dramani Mahama’s job performance compared to 67% in March 2026.

According to Global InfoAnalytics, the 71% recorded is the highest for any president since their 2020 regular tracking polls.

The poll titled the June 2026 National Tracking Poll found that 71% of Ghanaians approve of the President’s performance, up from 67% in March 2026, with 23% of respondents disapproving of his performance, while 6% had no opinion.

Global InfoAnalytics disclosed that they found majority approval for the President across all regions of the country, with Savannah Region, where 86% of respondents approved of his performance, followed by Western North with 82%.

The Bono Region at 80%, the Volta Region at 76%, and the Western Region at 76%, in Greater Accra, 73% of respondents approved of Mahama’s performance; however, the Ashanti Region recorded 55% approval, with the Ahafo Region registering the lowest approval rating at 40%.

Also, 66% of Ghanaians believe the country is headed in the right direction, compared with 27% who believe it is moving in the wrong direction.

The poll was conducted between May 30 and June 12, 2026, and sampled 8,784 voters across all 16 regions and 84 constituencies.

Also, the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) nationwide poll released today, Wednesday, June 10, which has revealed that President John Mahama’s job approval rating has declined.

According to the poll conducted in May 2026 in all sixteen regions of Ghana and covering over 1,000 respondents, President Mahama’s job approval rating declined from 68% recorded in December 2025 to 58.9% in May.

The IEA, however, indicated that a more than 30 percentage point gap between approval and disapproval indicates positive assessments of the President’s performance.

“On the economy, nearly three in four approvers, 73.5%, credit the government’s handling of the economy, followed by road infrastructure at 16.0% and energy and electricity at 2.7%.

The poll indicated that the economy still tops the list at 30.9%, though the IEA cautions that this does not necessarily reflect a rejection of the government’s macroeconomic record.

“Electricity supply was cited by 29.9% of disapprovers, a finding the IEA links directly to a temporary power supply constraint in May 2026 that brought frequent outages to homes and businesses across the country.

Corruption was raised by 19.1% of disapprovers, a signal, the IEA notes, that the government’s anti-corruption rhetoric has yet to fully convince a significant portion of the public, reports stated.

The IEA further cited that Ghanaians’ expectations are rising. “The findings suggest that Ghanaians are broadly supportive of the President’s leadership but are expectant that the progress recorded at the macro level will increasingly be felt in their daily lives”.

Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has disclosed the salary of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.

According to Kofi Adams, the veteran Portuguese tactician earns $80,000 per month and not the widely reported $100,000.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM Sunrise, Sports Minister Kofi Adams dismissed the reports, saying, “Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated”.

The Sports Minister’s revelation put to rest the rumours that had dominated discussions among football fans and pundits since Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars. 

Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz said he has not resigned from his role, despite numerous media reports.

Carlos Queiroz made this known after a fan approached him while he was out in town with his wife and asked whether he had resigned as head coach of the Black Stars.

In a viral video recorded abroad while walking with his wife, Queiroz clarified that he has not stepped down as head coach of the Black Stars.

He explained that the message was intended to express gratitude to everyone involved in the tournament and to the fans.

“I didn’t resign; I only sent my message of gratitude,” he said.

The brouhaha follows Carlos Queiroz’s farewell message shared on social media on July 5, 2026, which read,  “To Ghana,

Finance Minister to present 2026 mid-year budget review next week

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, is set to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament next week.

According to reports,  the Finance Minister’s presentation is subject to parliamentary approval.

Ato Forson is also expected to complete Cabinet briefings on key aspects of the review, including new policy measures, before updating President John Dramani Mahama before the presentation.

Should the process be completed on schedule, the Mid-year Budget Review is likely to be presented next week.

The Finance Minister is expected to outline what government describes as its new economic agenda, which is aimed at consolidating Ghana’s recent macroeconomic gains and shifting the economy from stabilisation to long-term growth.

He is also expected to provide an update on Ghana’s recently concluded IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme and the country’s transition to the new Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI.

The 2026 Mid-year Budget Review is also expected to focus on sustainable job creation, increased productivity, economic resilience and inclusive growth.

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said Ghana is now ranked as the eighth largest economy in Africa.

The Finance Minister asserted that under the previous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, the Ghana economy was rated as a junk economy.

According to Ato Forson, the fiscal policies adopted since the takeover from the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration have positioned the country to be able to attract investors.

Ato Forson disclosed that Ghana’s GDP per capita has reached $3,385 for the first time.

He further assured the diaspora community that the country’s debt is now sustainable and the economic gains made will be fully sustained.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in London on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Ato Forson stated, “Our country is back. Today, Ghana is ranked the eighth-largest economy in Africa. Our GDP per capita is now $3,385 for the first time, and our debt is now sustainable, unlike in the past. The gains made will be sustained”.

He further appealed to investors and Ghanaians in the diaspora to come and invest in Ghana.

The Finance Minister stated, “Ghana is open for business. We welcome you. Come home and contribute. And so, we see you as an important partner. We see you as our brothers and sisters in the diaspora. And you still have a role to play in nation building.”

“And London is home to some of us. Some of us had the privilege of growing up here.

“And myself, Honourable Kwami Agbodza (Minister of Roads and Highways), not long ago used to be members of this chapter until we had the privilege to go back home to serve our country. And so, you can also be one of us if you decide to come home and take part in nation building.”

“I do not recall that our country had ever gone through such a level of economic crisis. The scale of the crisis was profound. It was extremely traumatic, if not distressful.” He stated.

“Our currency, the Ghana cedi, came under intense pressure. It nearly lost its value. Inflation rose to painful levels. Investor confidence deteriorated very sharply.

“In February 2022, Moody’s downgraded Ghana to CAA1. In August, S&P also downgraded us to CCC+,” he stated.

“Again in the same year, August, Fitch also downgraded Ghana to CCC. And in September, Fitch again downgraded Ghana further down to double C. Finally, in October 2022, Ghana lost access to the international capital market.”

“But the good news is that today our country is back. We are back.” He said.

“But let me share some of the outturn with you. I’m pleased to report that as a result of the measures that President Mahama took, today GDP growth is back. Ghana has recorded a GDP growth of six per cent in the year 2025.” He said.

“And most importantly, non-oil GDP growth was 7.6 per cent, the highest in 14 years.”

Miracles Aboagye’s arrest a diversionary tactic for Mahama’s third-term agenda – Pundit claims

Nana Frimpong Zeiga, a Ghanaian entertainment pundit, has alleged that the arrest of NPP communications team member Miracles Aboagye is a diversionary tactic deployed by the government.

According to Nana Frimpong Zeiga, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest by EOCO is an attempt by the ruling NDC government to divert growing public attention from President Mahama’s alleged third-term agenda.

He alleged that Mahama’s third-term bid is likely to proceed unless he has been advised against it by the party’s executives.

Speaking on Kessben TV, Nana Frimpong Zeiga alleged, “This is a diversionary tactic. President Mahama will go for a third term if nothing changes. Mark my words. The third-term agenda has already been set in motion.

“Unless President Mahama has been advised by the NDC against it because it won’t help the party politically. They arrested Miracles because they wanted someone well-known so people would focus on that instead of Mahama’s alleged third-term bid,” he alleged.

He further added, “Miracles Aboagye isn’t above the laws of Ghana, and if he has done something wrong, the law should take its course. But there should be a proper way of handling such matters.

“Why can’t they treat Miracles the same way they treated NAPO? If they want him for questioning, they can simply invite him and his lawyers. But we need to pay attention to these Rambo-style arrests because they are alarming,” he added.

Meanwhile, Justice Abdulai, a Private legal practitioner, has bluntly told the NPP that no suspect has the legal right to determine when, where or how they should be arrested.

The Private legal practitioner detailed that provided law enforcement agencies act within the confines of the law, no one has the right to determine when and how they are arrested.

Justice Abdulai, however, raised concerns over the manner in which an arrest may be made, adding that the law does not give suspects the discretion to decide the timing or circumstances of their arrest.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, July 13, Justice Abdulai stated, “No one has a right to determine when and how he is arrested. So long as it is within the law, and due process is followed in effecting the arrest, you cannot determine how, where and when you should be arrested”

“It is unfortunate when the arrest is made to look like it is intended to smear and cause unnecessary attention.”

He added, “If indeed he was under investigation and had been reporting, and had not done anything to suggest he was absconding, then I would expect that he could have been arrested at a more appropriate time before he attempted to travel.”

“Ordinarily, when you are under investigation, you should know, particularly when you have been admitted to bail, you cannot leave the jurisdiction. Your movements are relatively curtailed.”

Justice Abdulai noted that circumstances surrounding Miracles Aboagye’s arrest raise questions about whether the restrictions, if any, had been properly communicated to him and his legal team.

“I do not know how this one went such that this information was not revealed to him.”

Justice Abdulai asserted that communication between investigators and suspects is essential to avoid situations that could lead to misunderstandings during ongoing investigations. 

Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has been granted bail following his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has reportedly been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.

Richard Ahiagbah expressed hope that the bail conditions would be met or varied to enable Miracles to secure his release.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Richard Ahiagbah stated, “My earlier briefing was GH¢50 million with three sureties. I hope that condition is either met or varied for him to be granted bail”.

GH¢100,000 National Day of Prayer proceeds donated to Korle Bu dialysis centre – Afriyie Ankrah

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy and Chairman of the National Planning Committee, has disclosed that the government has presented a total donation of GH¢100,000 to the Korle Bu Dialysis Centre.

The Presidential Envoy and Chairman of the National Planning Committee detailed that the Presidency decided to top up the amount with an additional GH¢63,427, bringing the total donation to GH¢100,000.

According to reports, on July 13, 2026, the government donated the GH¢100,000 proceeds raised during the event to the Korle Bu Dialysis Centre.

Speaking during the presentation, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah stated, “July 1 was the maiden edition, and it also marks Ghana’s birthday. The President thought it wise that, considering the numerous blessings the good Lord has bestowed upon us, we should give thanks. I recall that when we were about to organise this event, some people questioned why we should give thanks because there had been flooding. We took an offering on that day and promised that we would donate it to the Dialysis Centre.

“This is because some of us have encountered people who were healthy and strong but were suddenly diagnosed with kidney disease. I have seen people sell their properties just to pay for treatment. We thought it was important to bring our token to the Dialysis Centre. The offering amounted to GH¢36,573”, he said.

He added, “But we decided to top it up so that we could present a round figure. So, it is GH¢100,000 that we are presenting to you, and we believe this will be neither the first nor the last”.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah also called on corporate entities to support the cause by making donations to assist individuals battling kidney failure.

“Going forward, we will continue to support this cause. I want to use this platform to encourage other corporate entities to do the same”, he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, also expressed his gratitude to the President and the organising team.

Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam stated, “We all know the consequences when patients can no longer afford dialysis services. We are also doing everything possible to improve the situation. In addition, we are strengthening our kidney transplant programme to ensure that we are able to provide the required procedures.

We are open to all forms of assistance from across the country, especially from corporate bodies. We also welcome support whenever we undertake community outreach programmes”, Dr Seidu Adam noted.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has said that while prayer and faith remain important pillars of national life, they must be complemented by hard work, discipline and responsibility to transform Ghana.

Mahama made the remarks during the 2026 National Day of Prayer held in Accra on Wednesday, July 1.

He called on Ghanaians to embrace a strong work ethic and actively contribute to national development.

President Mahama cited biblical teachings highlighting that genuine faith must be accompanied by practical efforts to bring about meaningful change.

“Our national journey reminds us of an enduring truth, ‘faith without works is dead,’ says James 2:26. And prayer without responsibility cannot transform an economy. Hope without discipline cannot create prosperity.

“Throughout history, God’s people have always combined faith with hard work. When Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, the people prayed but they also laboured. When Joseph prepared Egypt for the years of famine, they also planned wisely.”

President Mahama also urged Ghanaians to consciously reject bitterness, intolerance and all forms of divisive behaviour.

He called on citizens to prioritise unity, dialogue and collective hope as the country advances its national reset agenda.

Mahama argued that national progress cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of hostility, mistrust or division.

“Our constitution binds us together, our history unites us, and our future depends upon our ability to work together; therefore, let us reject bitterness, intolerance and division.

“Let us reject corruption and cynicism. Instead, let us embrace dialogue over hostility, service over self-interest, unity over division and hope over despair. No nation has ever achieved greatness by allowing its differences to define its future.”

Schools in Yendi temporarily closed to mourn Yaa-Naa Abukari II

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a temporary closure of all public and private schools within the Yendi Municipality.

The temporary closure is to allow students and staff to observe the funeral rites of the late Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II.

On Tuesday, July 14, the GES, in a statement issued, disclosed that the directive, which took effect from midday on Monday, July 13, will remain in force until Thursday, July 16.

They further disclosed that full academic activities expected to resume on Friday, July 17.

GES further explained that the decision was reached following consultations with the Northern Regional Director of Education, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive and the Gbewaa Palace.

They disclosed that the temporary closure is intended to honour the late King and demonstrate respect for the cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Dagbon.

GES further directed all students and members of staff within the municipality to observe the mourning period.

Meanwhile, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Muniru Sogri, has explained that the government approved the closure to enable residents and the school community to participate in activities marking the passing of the Dagbon Overlord.

“Following the demise of the King of Dagbon, the Overlord, Yaa-Naa Abukari II, a decision was taken that to mourn the death of the King, public schools and also private schools have to close down,” Muniru Sogri said.

Meanwhile, in related news, the Dagbon Traditional Council has revealed that the third-day prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

According to the Dagbon Traditional Council, the prayers form part of Islamic mourning traditions and will take place at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi at 10:00 a.m., with members of the public invited to attend and offer prayers for the soul of the late King.

The Dagbon Traditional Council announcement follows the burial of Yaa-Naa Abukari II in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, within the sacred precincts of the Gbewaa Palace.

The Dagbon Traditional Council described the late King as a symbol of peace and unity.

They added that his reign was marked by efforts to promote harmony and development within the kingdom, urging the people of Dagbon to honour his memory by maintaining peace and avoiding conflict during the mourning period.

Meanwhile, the Council said arrangements for the full funeral rites of Yaa-Naa Abukari II will be announced in line with Dagbon tradition and royal protocol.

Reports suggest Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, who was also President of the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Northern Region House of Chiefs, died on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

22-year-old declares intention to contest Manhyia South parliamentary seat

A 22-year-old law student, Nana Agyeiwaa Baffoe-Bonnie Michaels, popularly known as Okodie, has declared her intention to contest the Manhyia South parliamentary seat.

According to the 22-year-old, she will be contesting on the ticket of the Base Ghana First Movement in the 2028 general elections.

She expressed her desire to bring development and change to the constituency, adding that her decision was based on years of witnessing and experiencing the challenges confronting residents of the constituency.

Nana Agyeiwaa Baffoe-Bonnie Michaels identified 12 major challenges facing Manhyia South, namely youth unemployment, lack of support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), insufficient skills and vocational training opportunities, poor educational infrastructure and healthcare delivery.

She also noted the poor roads and drainage systems, sanitation challenges, security concerns, inadequate support for women and girls, limited sports and recreational facilities, digital exclusion and weak citizen engagement by elected leaders.

According to her, these challenges persist because political leaders have placed party interests above the needs of the people.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Ashanti Regional office in Kumasi, Nana Agyeiwaa Baffoe-Bonnie Michaels stated, “I understand the struggles of the people because I have lived through them. It is time for a new kind of leadership that listens, serves and delivers”.

“I proudly identify with the Base Movement Ghana because it is committed to putting Ghana first, empowering citizens, promoting accountability and creating opportunities for all,” she said.

“The time has come for a new generation of leadership that listens, serves and delivers. Together, we can build a stronger Manhyia South and a stronger Ghana,” she said.

In a video shared by askghmedia, the 22-year-old law student was quoted to have said, “I have seen no progress in Manhyia South. Therefore, as a 22-year-old woman, I declare my intention to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Manhyia South on the ticket of the Base Ghana First Movement to bring significant development to the constituency.”

Some netizens reacting to the 22-year-old  student declaration stated, “Whether she is 22 or 62, voters will judge her by her policies, leadership, and ability to deliver, not her age”.

A netizen added, “Declaring that there has been no progress is a strong claim. She will need to back it up with evidence and a better plan”.

One X user added, “Just going through the comments section and am really shocked; most people are concluding or giving their opinions because of her age . Wish I could vote for her cus I like her courage”.

“Making bold promises is the easy part. The challenge is convincing the people that you have practical solutions and the ability to deliver them”, a netizen added.

Another X user added, “Age should never be a barrier to leadership. The real question is whether she has the vision, competence, and commitment to deliver if given the opportunity”.

In related news, the founder of the Base party, George Oti Bonsu, has boldly declared that the former Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong, will lead the Base party in the 2028 general elections.

According to the former financier of the NPP, he has warned members of the Base party not to speak negatively about Ken Agyapong or other political opponents.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on June 22, 2026, George Oti Bonsu made this known, stressing that Kwame Nkrumah Tikese already knows who will lead the Base party. 

He disclosed to host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese that Ken Agyapong was set to lead them into the 2028 election.

His revelation follows Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, who quizzed Oti Bonsu, who will be the flagbearer of his movement.

Kwame Nkrumah Tikese stated that he believed Ken Agyapong was their flagbearer, to which Oti Bonsu stated, “You know … God should increase your age this morning.”

Justin Kodua, the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye is all part of a political trick by the NDC government.

The NPP General Secretary argued that the arrest of Miracles Aboagye is to create a public perception of guilt before any legal process had taken place.

He insisted that no individual should be condemned without evidence being tested in court.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, July 13, following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Justin Frimpong Kodua stated, “It is all part of the political tricks to create the impression that because an accountant has admitted to committing a crime, by extension Miracles Aboagye is also guilty. What place does that have in law? It doesn’t make any sense to any of us”.

He also asserted that no one should be shielded from accountability, but law enforcement agencies must ensure investigations and arrests are conducted in accordance with the law.

“I’ve always said that the NDC government needs to tread cautiously. Power is transient, and no condition is permanent. No one is above the law. If someone has committed a crime, it is the duty of the state to arraign that person before a court of competent jurisdiction, but not this kind of Rambo-style behaviour,” he stated.

He further alleged that the arrest formed part of a pattern of intimidation targeting members of the opposition.

Justin Kodua warned that normalising such practices could have long-term implications for Ghana’s democratic governance.

He further called on the media and civil society organisations to remain impartial and speak against any perceived abuse of due process.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

Also, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has been granted bail following his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Yaa-Naa Abukari II, Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom.

Akufo-Addo described the late Yaa-Naa as a unifying leader whose reign restored dignity, peace and cultural pride to Dagbon after years of conflict.

In a statement issued following the customary announcement of the King’s death by the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Akufo-Addo recalled that Yaa-Naa Mahama Abukari II, then Yoo Naa of Savelugu, worked with other royal princes to implement the roadmap that led to the restoration of the Dagbon kingship during his presidency.

Akufo-Addo also recounted being conferred with the traditional title “Naa Abudani” in 2020 in recognition of his role in the reconciliation process and urged the chiefs, kingmakers and elders of Dagbon to ensure a peaceful succession in accordance with the customs and traditions of the kingdom.

In a post shared on social media, Akufo-Addo wrote, “I have been informed that the customary announcement serving notice of the sad passing of His Majesty Yaa – Naa Mahama Abukari II, overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, has been issued by the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi. 

A great figure of unity, strength and the enduring legacy of a proud and dignified people, Yaa – Naa Mahama Abukari II joins the illustrious list of Dagbon royals who have enabled the steady progress of Dagbon for over three centuries. 

He was pivotal to solving what, for years unending, became known as the “Dagbon Crisis” when he was then the Chief of Savelegu (Yoo Naa), which eventually culminated in his ultimate rise to the apex of Dagbon “namship” as Yaa Naa during my tenure as President of the Republic. He and the two younger princes at the time, with mutual respect and affection, accepted my advice towards the implementation of the special solution to the special circumstances of the Dagbon Kingdom at the time.

I was deeply honoured when he conferred on me the title “Naa Abudani” in 2020, as recognition of my efforts towards the reconciliation process in Dagbon, when I joined him in Yendi to celebrate the 1st Damba Festival following his enskinment. It is an honour I will always treasure.

His reign has been marked by a rapid resurgence of dignity, pride, unity and cultural renaissance across Dagbon. I urge the Chiefs, Kingmakers and elders of Dagbon to ensure that his legacy is cemented by ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition in line with the time-tested customs and traditions of Dagbon. It is reassuring to note that a regent has already been successfully enskinned.  I call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to support him and the people of Dagbon during this difficult period.

Samuel Atta Akyea, the lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has slammed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the bail conditions granted to Miracles Aboagye.

The lead counsel for Dennis Miracles Aboagye expressed his disappointment with the bail condition, suggesting that the GHC50m bail condition with three sureties slapped on his client could make his release difficult.

Atta Akyea questioned how Miracle Aboagye would be able to secure GH¢50 million in bail with three sureties within such a limited timeframe.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, July 13, 2026, Atta Akyea described Miracle Aboagye’s GH¢50m bail conditions as cruel and oppressive.

He stated, “Democracy and the rule of law have been reversed. A man who is not running away and is decent enough to go through Kotoka International Airport is arrested and has been detained all this while. I don’t believe that’s how we should conduct our affairs by treating him as if he’s a common criminal.

“The bail conditions are cruel and oppressive. At this very hour, they are about to exceed the 48 hours as enshrined in the Constitution”, he said.

“Where is this gentleman going to get three sureties for a GH¢50 million bail sum? The properties should be worth GH¢50 million, and two people should own such properties.

“How is he going to do it? So you can clearly see that the bail terms are cruel and are a way to punish him as well.

“How is he going to be released? How is he going to meet the bail conditions? In this critical hour, how is he going to find those sureties?” he added.

According to the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has reportedly been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.

Richard Ahiagbah expressed hope that the bail conditions would be met or varied to enable Miracles to secure his release.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom, Richard Ahiagbah stated, “My earlier briefing was GH¢50 million with three sureties. I hope that condition is either met or varied for him to be granted bail”.

It will be recalled that the former Director of Communications and spokesperson for the 2024 Bawumia campaign team is Dennis Miracle Aboagye.

Reports suggest the aspiring Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Sources told GHnow.com that Miracle Aboagye was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport as part of investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which is reportedly probing allegations that he misappropriated millions of cedis during his tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC).

NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a Facebook post, confirmed the arrest by EOCO officers with the assistance of Immigration officials at the Accra International Airport.

He revealed that Miracles’ lawyers have since been denied access to him; his whereabouts remain unknown, and no charges have been filed against him.

Meanwhile, EOCO has revealed that Gerald Appiah, an accomplice arrested alongside NPP communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has begun voluntarily returning loot connected to the GH¢55 million financial irregularities being investigated.

In a press statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, EOCO disclosed that Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They further detailed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

According to EOCO, Gerald Appiah has voluntarily commenced repayment of funds connected to the crimes being probed but added that repayments do not conclude the investigative process.

“EOCO notes that Gerald Appiah has voluntarily begun refunding (returning the Loot) of funds connected to the crimes under investigation. These recoveries do not and by themselves, conclude the investigative process, neither does it absolve any suspect of any crime”, the EOCO statement read.

The Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) has slammed the Okaikwei North Member of Parliament, Theresa Lardi Awuni, over her confrontation with staff of a member bank which remained open during the recent national clean-up exercise on Friday, July 10, 2026.

GAB defended one of its member banks and condemned the alleged conduct of the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North towards a CalBank worker.

According to GAB, they have taken note of an incident in which the MP reportedly visited the bank’s branch and made disparaging remarks and later indicated that she had contacted the bank’s Managing Director to express her displeasure.

The Ghana Association of Banks disclosed that it became aware of the incident through videos and commentary circulating on social media.

GAB, in its statement issued on July 13, 2026, explained that banks have consistently been recognised as essential service providers in Ghana, citing a designation established during the COVID-19 pandemic under the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012) and the accompanying Executive Instrument (E.I. 65).

They added that the classification has remained unchanged under successive governments.

Parts of the statement read, “It is important to recall that during the nationwide restrictions imposed in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Ghana, acting under the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012), issued the Imposition of Restrictions (Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic) Instrument, 2020 (E.I. 65, Second Schedule, Part A, Item 13).

“This Instrument, together with subsequent instruments issued under Act 1012, expressly listed banks and other financial institutions among the essential service providers exempted from the restrictions on movement and business operations imposed during the partial lockdown of the Greater Accra and Kumasi metropolitan areas”, it stated.

They further disclosed that before the exercise, the Association engaged the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on July 9, 2026, to seek clarification on the participation of banks and later received the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs’ directive stating that while non-essential businesses were to close between 6:00 am and 1:00 pm, institutions providing essential and emergency services were exempt.

The statement added, “As the Bank of Ghana, banks and other specialised deposit-taking institutions are listed and classified among essential service providers, member bank branches were exempted from this closure requirement”.

GAB described reports of the MP’s conduct at the bank branch as “deeply concerning and unfortunate.”

“It is against this background that GAB finds it deeply concerning and unfortunate to learn of an encounter in which a Member of Parliament is reported to have entered a member bank’s branch, forced her way to the manager’s office, and confronted branch staff including reportedly describing a staff member engaged in the clean-up exercise in demeaning terms over the branch’s decision to remain open”,  the Association stated.

GAB further stressed that while it would not defend any member bank that violated a lawful government directive, it would equally not tolerate the intimidation or abuse of bank employees.

“We wish to state clearly that the branch in question remained open to the public during the exercise precisely because banks are classified as essential service providers, and that, notwithstanding this, staff of the bank actively participated in the clean-up exercise as directed by GAB and in the spirit of the President’s national call to action”, they added.

The Dagbon Traditional Council has revealed that the third-day prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

According to the Dagbon Traditional Council, the prayers form part of Islamic mourning traditions and will take place at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi at 10:00 a.m., with members of the public invited to attend and offer prayers for the soul of the late King.

The Dagbon Traditional Council announcement follows the burial of Yaa-Naa Abukari II in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, within the sacred precincts of the Gbewaa Palace.

The Dagbon Traditional Council described the late King as a symbol of peace and unity.

They added that his reign was marked by efforts to promote harmony and development within the kingdom, urging the people of Dagbon to honour his memory by maintaining peace and avoiding conflict during the mourning period.

According to Dr Bawumia, the late monarch’s reign was short but impactful, adding that he was a unifying leader whose reign brought peace, stability, and development to the traditional area.

Dr Bawumia, in a statement, described the death of Dagbon overlord as a great loss not only to the kingdom but to Ghana as a whole.

Atta Akyea questioned how Miracle Aboagye would be able to secure GH¢50 million in bail with three sureties within such a limited timeframe.

He stated, “Democracy and the rule of law have been reversed. Accra, 13 July 2026

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) wishes to inform the general public that it has arrested Mr Dennis Edward Aboagye, former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the Secretariat. The arrest follows extensive investigations commenced by EOCO after receiving a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting further investigations into a forensic audit conducted into the affairs of the Secretariat covering the period from 1 August 2022 to 2 February 2025.

The investigations, which commenced last year following an initial forensic audit of the IMCCoD and the subsequent petition, concern the suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds amounting to about GHe55 million

The former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, Mr Dennis Aboagye, a.k.a. “Miraeles,” the former Accountant of IMCCoD, Mr Gerald Appiah and others are under investigation for suspected offences including:

1. conspiracy to steal and stealing

2. Using public office for profit

3. Causing financial loss to the State

4. Dissipation of public funds

5. Defrauding by false pretences

6. Money laundering

7. Other suspected offences

EOCO notes that Gerald Appiah has voluntarily begun refunding (returning the Loot) of funds connected to the crimes under investigation. These recoveries do not, by themselves, conclude the investigative process; neither does it absolve any suspect of any crime.

Following significant new findings last week relating to suspected fraud and theft involving Mr Dennis Aboagye (who is already aware of the investigation and has already visited the office or it). EOCO initiated an operational plan to effect his arrest this week. As part of this process. Mr Aboagye was placed on the Stop Order a week ago to prevent any sudden travel that could impede the investigation this week. Unknown to the Office, he had already departed the country.

Upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday night, officers of the Ghana Immigration Service executed the Stop Order and handed Mr Aboagye over to EOCO on Sunday morning. He subsequently accompanied investigators on a search on Sunday, which is expected to continue today,

EOCO further confirms that Mr Aboagye will be granted bail in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Ghana. Likewise, Mr Gerald Appiah is expected to complete his bail conditions today and will be released while investigations continue.

EOCO remains committed to conducting its investigations professionally, impartially and strictly within the law. The Office will continue to respect the constitutional rights of all persons under investigation while pursuing its mandate to investigate economic and organised crime and recover public assets.

Okatakyie Afrifa led a group of 30 macho men – Police details   

The Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti North Region have confirmed that media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was arrested following disturbances that disrupted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections.

According to the Police, the suspect, Kwame Afrifa Mensah, aged 43, was arrested together with six others to assist with investigations.

They further disclosed that the incident occurred at about 7:45 am on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the SDA Church polling station when Okatakyie led a group of about 30 macho men to the polling station.

In a statement issued by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command on Monday, July 13 detailed, “POLICE RESTORE CALM DURING NPP CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS AT WIAMOASE

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the public that the Police restored calm following a disturbance during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Efigya Sekyere East Constituency Executive Elections held at the SDA Church polling station, Wiamoase, in the Ashanti North Region.

On Sunday, 12th July 2026, at about 7:45 a.m, one Kwame Afrifa Mensah, aged 43 years, led a group of about thirty (30) macho men to the SDA Church polling station. When security personnel engaged the group to ascertain the purpose of their presence, they became aggressive, attacked the police, and disrupted the electoral process by throwing electoral materials onto the ground.

The suspected ring leader, Kwame Afrifa Mensah, together with six (6) others, were swiftly arrested to assist with investigations, while the remaining members of the group escaped. Efforts are underway to arrest the other suspects.

Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect Kwame Afrifa Mensah claimed that some of his supporters had been sidelined in the electoral process and that he had obtained an interlocutory injunction to halt the elections. However, neither the Electoral Commission nor the Police received any court order or injunction directing that the elections be suspended. Following the intervention of the police, calm was restored, and voting resumed under adequate security. The election ended peacefully at about 4:00 p.m., after which the Electoral Commission duly declared the results.

Later on the same day, suspect Afrifa Mensah and another suspect, Osman Awuni, aged 44 years, complained of ill health and were taken to the Mampong Government Hospital where they were ıdmitted for treatment. The two suspects remain under police guard while receiving treatment. Investigations are ongoing, and the public will be updated on any further developments”.

The Police statement follows, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a Ghanaian media personality, who was arrested following the chaos and violence that marred the  New Patriotic Party (NPP) Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections in the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, the chaos ensued when Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah attempted to present a court document indicating that the election had been injuncted.

In a post shared on TikTok, Ghanaian blogger Dek360 sharing the video, wrote, “Chaos and violence have marred the NPP Afigya Sekyere East Constituency executive elections following the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa and several members of his team by the Ghana Police Service.

“Members of Okatakyie’s team were assaulted during the incident. Although a court injunction had reportedly been served to halt the elections, the confrontation occurred while Afrifa was attempting to present the legal documents to law enforcement officers”.

A viral footage from the scene showed several men in civilian clothing amid a heavy deployment of armed personnel from the Ghana Police Service.

“The problem is not the rain” – Duncan-Williams on Ghana’s flooding and sanitation crisis

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has weighed in on Ghana’s flooding.

He argued that Ghana’s flooding problem is not about rains but the human beings.

According to Duncan-Williams, the problem goes beyond rainfall, urging Ghanaians to take responsibility for environmental challenges, including flooding and poor sanitation, rather than blaming the government.

He explained that human actions and attitudes are major contributors to the recurring flooding and sanitation challenges.

Nicholas Duncan-Williams asserted that some residents invest heavily in constructing expensive homes but fail to contribute towards improving roads and drainage systems in their communities.

Speaking in a viral video, the renowned preacher stated, “… When I stood out here before the people to lead prayer, to block the rains and to deal with my anger about the destruction that has taken place, the Lord convicted me that you blame me and you blame the devil for everything. You all don’t take responsibility for anything”.

“The problem is not the rain or the fire. The problem is you human beings,” Archbishop Duncan-Williams stated.

“I was surprised at some of the places we went to … seeing some of the expensive houses built and the road that leads to the houses. Some of the houses, the gate alone can build a house,” he said.

“Why do we live with filth? It’s enough. We all look well dressed like angels. But we are no angels. We are shaky lilies,” he remarked.

“Every time we are insulting politicians, we are all part of the politicians. Tell somebody, you are a politician. Say, we are all politicians,” he told the congregation.

Duncan-Williams’ remarks come on the heels of the June 29, 2026, rainstorm that hit several parts of the country, wreaking havoc, displacing residents and claiming 13 lives.

In other news, Frederick Amissah, the Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Finance, has disclosed that the Akufo-Addo government redirected $65 million from a World Bank loan intended for flood protection under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project to finance COVID-19 activities.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, July 6, 2026, Frederick Amissah explained that nearly half of the $137 million already drawn down from the $350 million GARID facility was channelled into pandemic-related spending.

He also rejected the claims that delayed disbursements slowed GARID’s progress, stressing that funds were released on time.

Frederick Amissah disclosed that the GARID is one of several World Bank-financed projects requiring strict oversight, as repayment ultimately falls on Ghanaian taxpayers.

According to him, since the Mahama administration assumed office in 2025, it uncovered multiple cases of project funds being misapplied.

He detailed that the Ghana Economic Transformation (GET) Project, close to GH¢1 billion, was reportedly spent on travel in 2024 alone.

Frederick Amissah, breaking down the figures, stated that of the $65 million diverted for pandemic response, $60.8 million has since been retired, leaving about $4.2 million outstanding.

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said over twenty NPP members have been arrested under the John Mahama government.

According to Salam Mustapha, the current John Mahama National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration is the “most intolerant” government Ghana has ever seen.

His comments come on the back of the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Speaking to the media when the NPP supporters gathered at EOCO’s office to demand answers on Miracles’ whereabouts, Salam Mustapha stated, “This is perversion of the highest order I have seen; the most intolerant government this country has ever produced. They will not allow any access to him; they will not talk to anybody; they have no respect for anybody.

“They don’t tell you why they are arresting you; they just come and pick you and take you away. That is the Ghana in which we live today,” he said.

He further questioned why Miracles was arrested upon his return to Ghana, arguing that he did not pose any flight risk.

“He travelled and the moment he returned to Ghana, he was arrested, not when he was going. The guy was not absconding. We arrest people when we think they are flight risks; this guy is here, always on TV and radio.

“He travelled and has returned to his motherland; you go and arrest him from the airport and come and dump him here that nobody should attend to him, and it is an order from above, is this democracy?” he said.

“Under this government, over 20 NPP people have been arrested. Some of the arrests are due to the silliest of reasons,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence following the arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to EOCO, Miracles Aboagye’s arrest is linked to alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million when he was a former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

EOCO disclosed that Dennis Miracles Aboagye is under investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.

They disclosed that the arrest follows a forensic audit and a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary, prompting investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Secretariat between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

The arrest follows extensive investigations commenced by EOCO after receiving a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting further investigations into a forensic audit conducted into the affairs of the Secretariat covering the period from 1 August 2022 to 2 February 2025.

The investigations, which commenced last year following an initial forensic audit of the IMCCoD and the subsequent petition, concern the suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds amounting to about GHe55 million

The former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, Mr Dennis Aboagye, a.k.a. “Miraeles,” the former Accountant of IMCCoD, Mr Gerald Appiah and others are under investigation for suspected offences including:

1. conspiracy to steal and stealing

2. Using public office for profit

3. Causing financial loss to the State

4. Dissipation of public funds

5. Defrauding by false pretences

6. Money laundering

7. Other suspected offences

EOCO notes that Gerald Appiah has voluntarily begun refunding (returning the Loot) of funds connected to the crimes under investigation. These recoveries do not, by themselves, conclude the investigative process; neither does it absolve any suspect of any crime.

Following significant new findings last week relating to suspected fraud and theft involving Mr Dennis Aboagye (who is already aware of the investigation and has already visited the office or it). EOCO initiated an operational plan to effect his arrest this week. As part of this process. Mr Aboagye was placed on the Stop Order a week ago to prevent any sudden travel that could impede the investigation this week. Unknown to the Office, he had already departed the country.

Upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday night, officers of the Ghana Immigration Service executed the Stop Order and handed Mr Aboagye over to EOCO on Sunday morning. He subsequently accompanied investigators on a search on Sunday, which is expected to continue today,

EOCO further confirms that Mr Aboagye will be granted bail in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Ghana. Likewise, Mr Gerald Appiah is expected to complete his bail conditions today and will be released while investigations continue”.

A young miner has gone viral on social media after claiming that he stopped attending church after funds were used to build a prison.

According to the young miner, he has stopped attending the Pentecost Church after church funds were used to build a prison.

According to the miner, attending church has never been a significant part of his life since childhood.

In the viral video, the man behind the camera questioned the miner, and he responded, asserting that, instead of attending church and spending money there, he would rather donate to orphanages and support vulnerable children.

The young miner explained that although he once attended church, he decided to stop after learning that the Church of Pentecost had used church funds to build a prison.

He argued that the church fund could have instead been directed toward supporting the poor and needy within the church.

The miner stated, “I was a member of The Church of Pentecost, but I stopped attending after church funds were used to build a prison while some people are dying of hunger elsewhere. The Church of Pentecost has a university, yet church members who attend the institution still pay fees. I would rather give my offerings and tithes to support orphans”.

He further highlighted that although the Church of Pentecost owns a university, members from poor backgrounds do not receive free access to education as they are still required to pay tuition fees.

Some Ghanaians reacting to his claims stated, “Mercy and compassion are supposed to be shown also to those who have committed wrongs. Even the Bible says, “LOVE YOUR ENEMIES; Do good to them that despitefully use you.”

Prisoners also need good living conditions. They are still human and do not have to live like animals”.

“It’s a lie. He just wanted to stop going to church and was looking for an excuse to do so. I thought he would say he now gives his tithe and offerings to orphans, but to say “I would rather give my offerings and tithes to orphans “ suggests he hasn’t started doing that either”, one X user added.

A netizen added, “The thing with “helping the poor and vulnerable” is that if it continues in perpetuity, it invites people to choose to be “the poor and vulnerable”.

The best approach is to pick the “poor and dedicated”, equip them and raise them to the point where they no longer need support”.

One more netizen added, “It’s worrying that people think the total population of prisoners are guilty of their offence or hardened criminals.

There are innocent people in prisons and people who want to transform too.

You, the person reading this, can be in prison. So change that mindset”.

“It’ll shock you to know that there are people in the church who struggle to pay fees, rent and some bills. Instead of using those funds to make the lives of those people better before doing something else, see what’s going on”, an X user added.

In related news, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has told Ghanaians to stop always placing blame on politicians.

According to Apostle Eric Nyamekye, citizens must also accept responsibility for the country’s governance and development.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, however, acknowledged that leadership plays a crucial role in national development, but highlighted that the character of the people ultimately shapes the success or failure of their leaders.

He further urged Ghanaians to contribute to the peace and prosperity of the nation wherever they find themselves, adding that national transformation requires the collective efforts of all citizens.

The Church of Pentecost Chairman noted that Ghana’s progress cannot be left in the hands of a few political leaders.

Delivering the sermon at the 2026 National Day of Prayer in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, Apostle Nyamekye stated, “We are making a mistake by always blaming politicians. How many are they? What about the millions of us? Our forebears did not think the way we are thinking in our generation.

How many politicians and government appointees do we have in a population of 35, 34 million plus? How can these few people determine our destiny? Seventy-one per cent of us claim to be Christians. If we are not part of the corruption, how could we have felt it?” he questioned.
