“You will be chased away” – South African activist accosts yet another Ghanaian

0

A South African activist identified as Queen Vee and her team have once again accosted yet another Ghanaian living in South Africa.

According to the South African activist, she can promise that there won’t be peace if Ghanaians don’t leave their country, adding that they will be chased away.

She further fired shots, describing Ghanaian leaders as failed leaders who only helped Emmanuel Asamoah to make themselves look like heroes.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, Queen Vee stated, “I can promise you, there’s not going to be peace. You will be chased away. Let me be clear. We’re going to ensure that all of us in Africa, we are all in our respective countries and fixing them. Ghana is now one of the largest gold producers. Ghanaians are not supposed to be suffering, but we have left it in the hands of the wrong leaders”.

“Now see what they did, what your leaders did with Emmanuel. They made it seem like they are heroes, but they forgot that the reason why Emmanuel and your kind are here is because they have failed. Now they love Ghanaians; they will love you guys, because if you love your own children, you are not going to let them go look for food next door, you’re going to ensure that you provide for them”.

“Even now, once they hear us complaining again, they will say xenophobia. No, your leaders have failed. Ghana’s leadership has failed,” she said.

Meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has announced plans to evacuate the first batch of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa on May 21, 2026.

The Government of Ghana moves to follow Ghanaian citizens in South Africa who have been affected by recent incidents of xenophobia and violence.

Announcing the evacuation effort, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, reiterated that the welfare and safety of all Ghanaians is a non-negotiable priority of the current Administration.

He disclosed that the evacuation exercise approved by President John Dramani Mahama will be fully funded by the state as part of efforts to protect affected citizens.

Reports suggest the evacuation will take place through the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

In a post shared on X, Ablakwa wrote, “The first batch of 300 Ghanaians will be evacuated from South Africa on May 21, 2026.

The welfare and safety of all Ghanaians is a non-negotiable priority of the Mahama Administration”.

Earlier, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that President John Dramani Mahama had approved the evacuation of 300 Ghanaians in South Africa.

In a post shared on X, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed, “His Excellency John Mahama has granted presidential approval for the immediate evacuation of 300 Ghanaians in South Africa.

These distressed Ghanaians had earlier complied with the Foreign Ministry’s advisory and registered with our High Commission in Pretoria to be rescued following the latest wave of xenophobic attacks.

The Government of Ghana shall continue to safeguard the welfare of all Ghanaians, at home and abroad”.

ZEN Petroleum founder William Tewiah, Ghana’s richest stock market investor

0

Fifteen years ago, William Tewiah was building a fuel supply business focused largely on servicing mining firms in Ghana’s Western Region.

Today, he sits atop the Ghana Stock Exchange as the owner of the largest individual equity stake ever recorded on the country’s public market.

The founder of ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC has become Ghana’s richest stock market investor after the company’s successful listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange in April triggered a strong surge in its share price.

Based on the company’s latest market valuation, Tewiah’s 80% holding in ZEN Petroleum is now worth around GHS 3.87 billion, equivalent to roughly $338 million at prevailing exchange rates.

That valuation places him comfortably ahead of the country’s long-established stock market heavyweights and marks a defining moment for Ghana’s capital market, where large founder-led listings have remained relatively rare.

ZEN Petroleum listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange at GHS 5 per share in April 2026 after offering 128 million shares to investors in a deal that quickly drew strong institutional demand.

Since then, the stock has climbed to GHS 7.55, pushing the company’s market capitalization to nearly $422 million (GHS 4.83 billion).

The rapid rise has turned ZEN into one of the exchange’s most valuable listed companies within weeks of trading.

The listing also reshaped Ghana’s investor rankings almost immediately.

For years, veteran investor Daniel Ofori was widely regarded as the most influential individual shareholder on the Ghana Stock Exchange because of his sizable interests in banking and insurance companies including GCB Bank, SIC Insurance, CalBank and Societe Generale Ghana.

But unlike Ofori, whose wealth was built through investments spread across multiple listed firms over decades, Tewiah’s fortune has been driven almost entirely by the public market valuation of a single company he founded and expanded privately before taking it public.

Market analysts say the scale of the valuation reflects growing investor confidence in locally owned energy infrastructure businesses at a time when African institutional investors are increasingly looking inward for long-term opportunities.

Investor appetite for ZEN was evident even before trading began.

The public offer, which sought to raise $56 million (GHS 640 million), was heavily oversubscribed after attracting strong demand from pension funds and investment firms. By the close of the offer, bids reportedly exceeded $84 million (GHS 970 million), underlining unusually strong interest for a Ghanaian IPO.

The successful listing was also significant for the Ghana Stock Exchange itself, which has spent recent years trying to attract more major local listings following periods of economic pressure, currency weakness and debt restructuring challenges in Ghana’s economy.

Beyond the market value, ZEN Petroleum’s rise carries symbolic importance for Ghana’s business landscape.

The company became the first indigenous private downstream petroleum firm to list on the exchange, a sector historically dominated by multinationals and foreign-backed operators.

Company executives have repeatedly stressed their intention to maintain Ghanaian ownership. Board chairman Frank Adu Jr. recently said systems had been put in place with market regulators to ensure the company remains fully Ghanaian-owned despite being publicly traded.

Tewiah has meanwhile indicated plans to gradually reduce his personal holding over time by widening ownership and introducing employee participation schemes.

Still, his current position already represents a landmark moment for Ghana’s equity market.

For many investors, the story is not only about the creation of a paper fortune worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It is also about the emergence of a new generation of African founders building large indigenous companies capable of commanding serious value on public markets.

“This is not the John Mahama I know; I feel ashamed” – Manasseh Azure Awuni

0

Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, has penned a scathing write-up calling out President John Dramani Mahama over the constant arrest of opposing NPP members.

According to Manasseh Azure Awuni, this is not the John Mahama he knows, whom he could vouch for without batting an eyelid.

He disclosed that when Mahama became president again, he expected nothing less but he had seen Mahama change in that aspect as if Ghana had returned to the era of military governments.

Manasseh disclosed that he feels so ashamed about what is happening now.

The award-winning investigative journalist noted that even though the president might not have a hand in the arrests, he must take action as they are affecting his reputation.

Part of his write-up read, “When you became president again, I expected nothing less because I hadn’t seen you change in that aspect of your character. That is why I feel so ashamed about what is happening now. It is as if we are in a military regime. Ghanaians, especially members of the opposition NPP, are constantly harassed under the widely abused law of publishing false news.

“Aside from Abronye, others have spent weeks in custody for no crime other than making harmless comments. Someone was arrested and detained for posting about power outages. Mr President, this is a blot on your presidency, a severe dent in your high reputation as a friend of the media and a guardian of free expression,” he said.

He added, “This is not the John Mahama I know, the Mahama whose high level of tolerance I could vouch for without batting an eyelid.”

His post added, “Why have I left the police and the judiciary to focus on you? An elder who sits at home and watches children eat the forbidden snake will not be left out when a roll call of the snake’s eaters is taken. So said the sages of old. And it remains true to this day.

“You appointed the IGP. You appointed the Director of the BNI. The political officeholders whose complaints have led to the arrest and detention of citizens are your appointees.

Calling your appointees and security agencies to order is not an interference in their lawful duty. It is safeguarding the integrity of our democracy, protecting the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of the people”, he added.

Read the full write-up below:

“PRESIDENT MAHAMA, I FEEL ASHAMED.

Dear President John Dramani Mahama,

In the eight years of Akufo-Addo’s presidency, when the noose around the neck of free expression remained forever tight, I was one of those who spoke out constantly.

Not only did I speak up, but I also missed no chance to remind Ghanaians of the freedom we had enjoyed under your first term, largely due to your tolerance of free speech. I told them you were not as vindictive as Akufo-Addo and his administration.

I said these things not because I hated Akufo-Addo. Neither was I campaigning for you, as others construed it.

I’d lived that freedom under your presidency. I believed in your tolerance, your quest to see an atmosphere of free speech, even when you were the target of toxic speech and vitriol.

When you became president again, I expected nothing less because I hadn’t seen you change in that aspect of your character.

That is why I feel so ashamed about what is happening now. It is as if we are in a military regime. Ghanaians, especially members of the opposition NPP, are constantly harassed under the widely abused law of publishing false news. Aside from Abronye, others have spent weeks in custody for no crime other than making harmless comments. Someone was arrested and detained for posting about power outages.

Mr President, this is a blot in your presidency, a severe dent in your high reputation as a friend of the media and a guardian of free expression.

This is not the John Mahama I know, the  Mahama whose high level of tolerance I could vouch for without batting an eyelid.

Why have I left the police and the judiciary to focus on you?

An elder who sits at home and watches children eat the forbidden snake will not be left out when a roll call of the snake’s eaters is taken. So said the sages of old. And it remains true to this day.

You appointed the IGP. You appointed the Director of the BNI. The political officeholders whose complaints have led to the arrest and detention of citizens are your appointees.

Calling your appointees and security agencies to order is not an interference in their lawful duty. It is safeguarding the integrity of our democracy, protecting the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of the people.

There’s a reason members of the governing party are not the target. The security agencies and some judges have resorted to these shameful actions because they are too eager to please the political authority headed by you. As we experienced in the past, members of the incumbent party do worse and get away with it.

Mr President, you mustn’t sit down and watch. It is your presidency. It is your legacy. Defend it. Don’t put those of us who trust in your tolerance to shame.

Free speech is not a crime, even if it is laced with stupidity, as is the case in many of these instances. The law against publishing false information that causes fear and panic is being abused. It is being used to settle political scores, and the head of state must be concerned.

Many years ago, Ghanaians woke up at dawn with fear and panic. False information swept the nation, claiming an earthquake was imminent and that people should leave their homes. It was one of the rare instances in which false news had, indeed, caused “fear and panic” in the nation.

The framers of the law probably anticipated such rare situations, but now the law is being used to teach critics of the government a lesson. It is used to show them where power lies. And you must not sit unconcerned.

After keeping people in custody, the cases don’t succeed in court because the charges are stupid and lack legal legs to stand up in court.

If this was wrong under Akufo-Addo, it must be wrong under Mahama, especially now that it’s worsening.

I hope you sit up and act. Don’t feign ignorance or innocence. You can’t be. The buck stops with you.

Yours sincerely,

Manasseh Azure Awuni”.

0

A man identified as Dezmond K. Gillespie has levelled serious allegations against officers of the Ghana Police Service in a Facebook post.

According to the Man, he saw Police officers taking drugs, drinking expensive alcohol, and even drugging and raping young secondary school girls.

He further alleged that he witnessed the Police Officers killing many Nigerian Girls arriving in Ghana by removing their kidneys for sale.

The man also claimed he and his children were allegedly kidnapped, robbed, and tortured by individuals he says were police officers.

He further alleged that equipment linked to his Bitcoin mining activities was seized and that money was demanded in exchange for its return.

In a Facebook post by Dezmond K. Gillespie, with the screenshot shared by ASKghmedia, he wrote, “The Ghana Police Service is deeply infiltrated with armed robbers, kidnappers, rapists, and murderers. I was personally a victim, I was robbed, kidnapped along with my children, and subjected to torture. These criminal officers targeted my Bitcoin mining machines, which I had professionally built myself, along with their passwords.

High-ranking police officials at the national police headquarters in Accra are protecting and covering up for these criminal officers. Initially, they demanded $10 million from my Bitcoin funds. I resisted for a year, but when I pushed the case further, they refused to return my equipment unless I paid the ransom. Now, they’re even threatening my life, warning that if I speak out or anyone finds out, they will kill my children.

I could have just paid them, but I saw these officers taking drugs, drinking expensive alcohol, and even drugging and raping young secondary school girls. 1 witnessed them killing many Nigerian Girls arriving in Ghana by removing their kidneys for sale, all while I was held captive. The scale of cover-ups, lies, bribery, and corruption within the Ghana Police Service is more dangerous than NUCLEAR WEAPONS. NO ONE IS SAFE ANYMORE,

Our country desperately needs help; our officials cannot be trusted. We need foreign media Lawyers, ICC, Governments To step in and speak with the victims, not the officials, because these people lie and cover up crimes for financial gain. Trust in our authorities has all but vanished”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the post stated, “I was taking this seriously until I saw

“I witnessed them killing Nigerian girls and selling kidneys” and “we need foreign media” This seems like an Agenda to put dirt on the name Ghana. We know how other countries are envious of our good name. It won’t work ooo whoever you are”.

One X user added, “Really, since when did the Ghana police start harvesting kidneys and vital organs for sale

@GhPoliceService, you need to answer us because this is a serious allegation”.

A netizen added, “I don’t have to wait for him to provide evidence before I believe him, a police officer was recently arrested engaging in a series of robberies ! An inspector ooo”.

An X user added, “I believe what he is saying. A police man walked to my house and asked me if I live alone and other strange questions. He asked me to pay money for protection, which I refused. The next day, I was robbed. I reported to the police, and they told me to forget about my Stuff”.

One netizen added, “People are accusing the guy of lies. Were you there? Did you experience what he experienced? Aren’t there criminals in the ranks of the GPS? Why do you seek to trivialise someone’s ordeal in the hands of GPS? We all saw a policeman robbing Momo vendors a few days ago”.

One last netizen added, “Every Ghanaian reading this knows this is a big fat lie. I can bet my whole life on this that No Ghana Police Service man will do these alleged acts.

“Kwesi Pratt is a BIG liability to the Mahama administration” – Koku Anyidoho

0

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, the former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has fired shots at veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr., describing him as a ‘BIG liability’ to the John Mahama administration.

According to Koku Anyidoho, Kwesi Pratt is a “Hypocrite and parasite” and the biggest existential threat to the survival of the NDC.

In a post shared on X, Koku Anyidoho wrote, “Kwesi Pratt’s daughter is one of the JM appointees making nonsense of the ‘Reset Agenda’ because she just talks rubbish. Kwesi Prat himself is a BIG liability to this JM Administration because of his gross hypocrisy”.

“Who is Kwesi Prat blaming? He should blame himself first. Is he not the one who thinks he has hijacked the NDC for his personal parochial gain? Is he not the one messing up our Foreign Policy with his surrogate?

He is the biggest existential threat to our survival as NDC. Kwesi Prat: Go and rebuild your CPP and leave us alone to rebuild our NDC – you have never been NDC so just leave us alone. Hypocrite and parasite. We shall flush him out of the NDC very soon,” he said.

His comment follows, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran journalist and political commentator, who fired shots at President John Dramani Mahama’s appointees.

According to Kwesi Pratt, Mahama’s appointees are dancing around him in circles, making nonsense of all his proclamations.

He stressed that President Mahama’s appointees don’t care about the Reset agenda of his supposed legacy term, adding that they are more focused on succession battles than helping him deliver on his promises to Ghanaians.

He recounted that President Mahama came to solve Ghana’s problems, but many of the people he appointed do not care about the Reset Agenda.

Kwesi Pratt highlighted that President Mahama is being politically undermined by people within his own government who are more focused on succeeding him.

Speaking in an interview on PanAfrica TV, Kwesi Pratt argued, “To be honest, I feel very sad for President John Dramani Mahama; the betrayal of President John Dramani Mahama is monumental”.

“This is a gentleman who came to the people of Ghana and said, ‘ Look, there are problems with the country, and I want to solve the problems in the educational sector, health sector and so on. He proclaimed a reset agenda,” he stated.

He added, “And he appointed people to assist him to realise that objective. Many of the people he appointed to help him realise that objective don’t just care. They don’t care about reset. They don’t care about restructuring the economy. All they care about is replacing him”.

“Poor Mahama. Poor Mahama. And he’s sitting there being held hostage,” he said.

“He’s not been able to crack the whip. They’re dancing around him in circles and making nonsense of all the proclamations he has made. It’s unbelievable,” Pratt added.

“Visit the NDC social media platforms and see what is happening there. Who is talking about how to achieve the 24-hour economy? That’s not their concern. It’s about who is going to replace Mahama,” he said.

“So the people he appointed to help him leave a legacy are saying to us, ‘Oh, don’t worry, very soon you’ll become a lame duck. That’s what they say. They say, ‘By next year, you’ll be a lame dog. You have no power. We don’t have to respect him. So let’s start our campaign,” he added.

“Ghana will go for another IMF-supported program by 2033” – Economist projects

0

Godfred Bokpin, an Economist Professor, has projected that Ghana will be fully ready for another IMF-supported program by 2033.

The Economist Professor argued that if the longstanding structural weaknesses in the economy remain unresolved, Ghana will return to the IMF by 2032 or 2033.

According to Godfred Bokpin, Ghana’s economic difficulties continue to reflect the same challenges that triggered earlier engagements with the IMF, tracing back to Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Delivering a presentation at the 2026 Axis Pension Trust Pension Strategy Conference, Professor Godfred Bokpin stated, “The reasons Dr Kwame Nkrumah cited for approaching the IMF are not substantially different from the reasons we cited in 2022 for our current programme”.

“If we were learning from past programs with determination, we should be able to identify why we have been going there that often. I can assure you there is a way you can predict if these things persist, that we will be there.

“When the government announced that they were exiting the programme, we did our analysis and concluded that Ghana will be fully ready for another IMF-supported program by 2032 or 2033,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, has said Ghana must make sure it does not go back to the good old bad days by being forced into another emergency bailout arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to Ato Forson, Ghana risks sliding back into crisis if it fails to sustain ongoing reforms following the conclusion of its International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Credit Facility programme.

He highlighted that the government is implementing safeguards to ensure Ghana does not repeatedly resort to external bailouts.

The Finance Minister stressed that Ghana does not want to return to IMF support, adding that discipline must remain a priority.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, May 15, Dr Forson stated, “What we seek to do is to make sure that whatever we do today is sustainable, so that we don’t go back to the good old bad days, where we get to an emergency situation that we have to go to the IMF”.

“We are putting in place measures so that we don’t have to go for a bailout. We believe that we do not have a need to go for a bailout every day, but it doesn’t mean we should let our guard. It means that we don’t have to be complacent in order to work harder,” he explained.

“We need to sustain the gains of economic stability to be able to attract private investment into our country and be able to build on it for sustainable growth,” he said.

“So, bailout is out of the equation,” he said.

Dr Forson further recounted Ghana’s past economic challenges, saying, “When I was a deputy minister here, we often said that as for indiscipline, there’s always a price for indiscipline”.

“Clearly, indiscipline is what has landed Ghana on a number of bailout programs, because largely, we depleted our reserves so fast, and then we enjoyed the benefits of consolidation so quickly, and in the end, we’re going back to where we don’t have to be,” he said.

“What we seek to do going forward is to build on the momentum that this ECF has created for all of us and sustain it for a very long time so that the country can benefit from it,” he added.

Also, IMF Mission Chief for Ghana, Ruben Atoyan, has urged Ghana to maintain economic discipline.

He disclosed that the new arrangement under the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), the IMF will not provide financing but will support Ghana through technical assistance and policy guidance.

Ruben Atoyan stated, “It’s a form of technical assistance. We’re very happy to engage in this new phase of the relationship,” he said. “The PCI will focus on multiple objectives.”

“Importantly, this must be done without reversing the hard-won stabilisation gains,” he said.

“This space can now be used to address pressing development needs, promote employment… strengthening social and priority spending,” he said.

“Maintaining discipline supported by stronger public financial management, better oversight, and reducing quasi-fiscal risks will be very important,” he said.

“The external environment remains uncertain and volatile, which underscores the need for continued prudent fiscal and monetary policy,” he said.

“Ghana Police Service infiltrated with armed robbers, kidnappers, rapists, and murderers” – Man alleges

Dezmond K. Gillespie further alleged that the Ghana Police Service, in a Facebook post, claimed he and his children were allegedly kidnapped, robbed, and tortured by individuals he says were police officers.

He further alleged that equipment linked to his Bitcoin mining activities was seized and that money was demanded in exchange for its return.

Desmond further accused some senior officials of protecting wrongdoing and claimed he had received threats after pushing for action on the matter.

In the post, he made additional disturbing allegations involving violent crimes and corruption.

“We will burn down the NDC headquarters if another NPP member is arrested” – NPP’s Benghazi warns

0

Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member, has issued a stern warning to a threat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, members of the NPP would burn down the NDC headquarters if another NPP member were arrested.

He argued that the ruling government has been unlawfully arresting members of the NPP, adding that under the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, members of the NDC were not subjected to such arrests.

Speaking during a discussion on Onua FM, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah stated, “If they continue to arrest our members, the next time such a thing happens, we will burn down the NDC headquarters. I know what I am saying is a threat, but are the things they are doing not also threats? Those days when they could intimidate us are gone.

“Did you ever see President Akufo-Addo arresting people during our time? The Rawlings era is long gone. I am repeating that the next time they arrest our members, we will burn down their headquarters, and that will be our first warning,” he said.

The NPP man further accused the National Peace Council and other state institutions of remaining silent while NPP members are being intimidated.

“The Peace Council and other state elders are sitting quietly while these things happen. As they continue arresting members of the NPP, nobody is saying anything. This is a warning because we are tired of staying silent for a long time,” he added.

When asked to retract the statement and apologise, Gyewu-Appiah refused, saying, “No, I won’t apologise. Let them go and arrest another NPP member, and we shall see”.

Meanwhile, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned the John Mahama-led government that they will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable.

According to Salam Mustapha, if the nonsense doesn’t stop, the NPP will weaponise their support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them.

He made comments when the NPP paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Salam Mustapha accused the Mahama government of targeting members of the opposition party.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Salam Mustapha warned, “If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them”.

“We are sending this warning and caution to the government to release Abronye; otherwise, should anything happen to Abronye in custody, you’ll have us to contend with,” he added.

“And this constant harassment and intimidation of NPP people, if you people don’t stop it, we’ll make sure that we react in such a way that you will not be happy with us,” he stated.

“You have a country to govern, and we are here to support you and give you the best of advice from an opposition point of view. If you turn us into enemies, we will give you rebellion,” he said.

Family of Charles Amissah sues 3 hospitals, others seeking GH¢20m in damages

0

The family of the late engineer Charles Amissah has filed a lawsuit against three hospitals, several medical professionals and the Attorney General following the death of their brother.

According to the family, the suit follows a chain of negligent acts that led to her brother’s death after a road accident in Accra.

Dr Matilda Amissah, acting as administratrix of the estate of her late brother, Charles Amissah, is seeking GH¢20 million in damages, alleging negligence across multiple health facilities led to his death at the High Court in Accra over the February 2026 incident.

The Ghana Police Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, several doctors and nurses attached to the facilities, as well as the Attorney General’s Department, have all been named in the suit.

According to the statement of claim filed before the High Court, Charles Henry Amissah was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass at about 10:30 p.m. on February 6, 2026.

It added that after Amissah failed to return home, relatives reported him missing at the Adentan Police Station. Four days later, the family was contacted by officers at the Nima Police Station and informed that an accident victim.

She further told the court that upon arrival at the hospital mortuary, the family found the body in a decomposing state outside the cold room, infested with maggots.

“The plaintiff argues that her brother remained alive for more than two hours while being moved between hospitals and could have survived if emergency interventions had been administered promptly”, reports stated.

The Court documents cite the post-mortem findings as deep laceration injuries to the right upper arm, severe blood loss, fractures and trauma-related complications resulting from exsanguination.

The sister of the deceased is accusing the “hospitals and medical personnel of negligence, including failure to provide emergency triage, failure to stabilise the patient, failure to conduct vital assessments and failure to prioritise urgent care despite the severity of his condition”.

In related news, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has revealed that he died from a slow death from medical neglect.

According to a three-member committee set up to probe the death of hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah did not die from an instant trauma.

The committee disclosed that failure by the medical staff at the Police hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital led to the death of the 29-year-old engineer on February 6.

Presenting its findings on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, the chair of the committee, said the case reflected a breakdown in emergency triage systems across the facilities involved.

“The pathology confirms that this was a slow death from medical neglect and not from the instant trauma. What it means is that if at any of these facilities there had been medical intervention, Charles Amissah would have survived,” the committee stated.

It will be recalled that for close to three hours on February 6, 2026, Charles Amissah, the victim, was denied treatment by Ridge, Police, and Korle Bu hospitals before passing away.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Cowbell milk and other food products.

Watch Ebi Bright explain why she kept her marriage to MP Dafeamekpor private

0

Ebi Bright, the Mayor of Tema, in an old video which has resurfaced, following Ghanaians’ expressed surprise over revelations that she is married to South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has been explaining why she kept her marriage private.

According to Ebi Bright, she chose to keep her family life private to protect her home and children from public scrutiny, adding that she had always wanted to build a family while pursuing her career.

In the old video, Ebi Bright revealed she understood the demands of public life and decided not to expose her family to unnecessary attention.

The Mayor of Tema asserted that her decision gave her peace and protected her family from unwanted attention.

Speaking in an old video shared by Joy Prime, Ebi Bright detailed, “As a woman, you know how we’re raised? Each one of us knows who we are before we get to where everybody else knows us. You have to decide early on, are you a slay queen or you’re going to be leaving the space with your mind and with thoughts”.

“Do you want a family? And do you want to be a responsible homemaker, or do you just want to be out there? What price is too big for what you want? For me, I stepped into the political space, but even as an actress, the character was constant,” she stated.

“I always knew at every step of the way, what I was willing to pay for where I wanted to get to, I determined that my marriage and my family, my children, were paramount and that I did not have what it took to protect my family, if I thrust them into the public space. So, I kept my marriage private,” she added.

She further added, “I kept my children private. I was not all over social media. Immediately, I changed my polish, I snapped a picture, and I posted. I didn’t do all of those things”.

“It allowed me the space to grow. It allowed me the space to protect myself and my family from some of those fears. It protected me from some of the advances that might have been more offensive,” she stated.

“So, I wasn’t all over the place because I knew who I was. So, even if I wasn’t a politician, I knew that I still wanted to be a family person. It’s the character, and it’s knowing who you are and being steadfast with who you are… And for me, I protected my family,” she concluded.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “Smart lady.

She’s extremely rare.

Not many women value privacy.

Not many women enforce boundaries.

She did well in protecting her family from fame”.

Another netizen added, “This is what we call WOMAN, not the fame-hungry slay queens with body edition deceiving young girls online. Hon. Ebi one in a million”.

“We have finished the period of introspection; we are a gov’t-in-waiting” – Bawumia rallies NPP MPs

0

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has sent a decisive signal that the party has finished the period of introspection following their defeat in the 2024 elections.

According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s posture going into the new parliamentary session must be that of a “government-in-waiting” ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Dr Bawumia highlighted that the minority should no longer view itself as a wounded political group.

He stressed that the action in Parliament, public statement and constituency engagement must reinforce the perception that the NPP is ready to govern again.

Speaking to the Minority Caucus in a closed-door briefing on the eve of Parliament’s resumption, Dr Bawumia stated, “Let every Ghanaian who watches this session come away thinking: the NPP is ready, and the NPP is on our side.

“The road to 2028 will not be won in one rally or one manifesto launch,” he told the Caucus. “It will be won day by day, question by question, statement by statement, community by community, and constituency by constituency. And in that work, you, the Minority Caucus, are indispensable.”

“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from 7th January 2029,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia added, “We must always project this posture, that we are a party preparing to govern. This will send a strong and well-meaning message to the people of Ghana and emphasise our belief that it is only the NPP that can move this nation on a glorious path”.

“I will be directly involved in supporting you to achieve this. The entire party is also building a strong architecture to support you through the sector committees, so that we sing from the same hymn sheet and act with a coordinated strategy at every point in time,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has told the NPP youth wing to prepare for leadership as the party work to regain power in 2028.

According to Dr Bawumia, they want their youth wing to take up key leadership positions.

Speaking at a meeting with student leaders ahead of a three-day boot camp organised by the NPP, Dr Bawumia stated, “I want you to be assured that this training program is for your benefit because we want the youth to take key leadership positions”.

“And we cannot get you into key leadership positions if we don’t prepare you for the uptake of these leadership positions,” he added.

The former Vice President expressed confidence that the NPP could return to government in 2028.

He stated, “2028, Inshallah, it is going to happen in 2028. It is possible. It is possible. And we are going to work towards it”.

“We are not going to sit down and say it will happen, but we are going to work,” he said.

Dr Bawumia added, “The youth will take over the key positions as we move forward in this country. You know that the vote is largely youth-dominated. 2028, as it was in 2024, will be a youth-dominated election”.

The NPP presidential candidate further announced plans to increase the party’s engagement with the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON).

Dr Bawumia disclosed that he will visit several campuses in the coming years to present the NPP’s ideas and vision.

He added, “We will take the debate, the ideas to the country, and we will make our case”.

“We are, however, saying that we will not be intimidated. You can arrest all of us. We will come back and make our case to the people of Ghana,” he stated.

Video – Lady narrates how she got a foreigner arrested after he allegedly threatened to kidnap and impregnate her

0

A lady has shared how she got a foreigner arrested after he allegedly threatened to kidnap and impregnate her for refusing to give him her phone number.

According to her, the man claimed he knew where she lived and threatened to kidnap her, keep her in his room, and impregnate her after she rejected his request.

Speaking in a self-recorded video shared on X by EBHUB, the lady narrated, “

“A guy told me he would kidnap me, and I didn’t take it as a joke. It was around 7:30, and I was going to get pre-paid. I was with one little girl, and then I met this guy. He was like can I have your number? I said no! I don’t want to give you my number”.

“He was insisting, and this guy was following me. I was like, ” Can you please go your way? I don’t want you to follow me, and it’s late,” she stated.

She added, “When I got to where I was to branch, this guy went like, ‘You don’t want to give me your number. I know where you stay. I’ll kidnap you, and I’ll keep you in my room. I will sexually assault you and make you pregnant”.

“He just said it bluntly and boldly, and I was like, what did you say? He goes like, ‘Yes, you heard me right. I said I will kidnap you, keep you in my room, and I’ll make you pregnant.’

“This should let you know where this person is from. He’s from another country [a foreigner]. People heard what he said, but he was not scared. He was repeating his remarks,” she added.

The lady further narrated, “I was like, you think this is your country? I will report you to the police, but he was laughing. He thought it was funny. So, thank God, the guys around heard him. They asked me what the guy said to me so, so I told them… That’s how we dragged this guy to the police station”.

“Unfortunately for him, it was a Friday evening. They kept him there [in cells] till Sunday,” she said.

“On Monday morning, they [police] asked him to call his people. He didn’t even have anybody. Some young guys came there, and then we were able to bail him”.

“They gave him a whole lot of forms to fill, and a restraining order. So, please, if someone threatens you with anything at all, don’t be afraid. The Ghana Police is your friend. Report that person to the police, and they will do what is needful,” she further advised.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the lady’s video stated, “I BLAME THOSE FOOLS ADVOCATING FOR THE

VISA FREE AND THE BORDERLESS NONSENSE

TO HELL WITH AFRICA UNITY NONSESNE

THESE FOOLS CANT EVEN LEAVE PEACEFULLY

IN THAT PIGSTY THEY CALL NIGERIA…AND OUR

LEADERS ARE INVITING THESE ANIMALS TO

A netizen added, “Waaaa seeing all comments saying (Nigerians) this shows  the kind of hatred the Nigerians rcv from Ghanaians even without the lady mentioning a specific country, wow, wow, wow, as the saying goes be careful of what u say, it could land you in jail whether it’s a joke or not”.

One X user added, “I had a crazy experience, one wanted to steal my phone, and we struggled till I took my phone. This guy stayed around for almost 15 minutes asking me to bring the phone to him and that he knows me, “oga gimme the phone na we noh Dey steal phone for heaven”

“That’s how one Nigerian guy was having disagreements over the electricity bill with his landlord. And according to the Nigerian guy, he said the LL said  I will keep you. He now told him I will keep you too. The matter went to court. The alata was in police custody for 3 months, a netizen added.

“I am the first AG in history to have brought 5 corruption cases in one year” – AG replies critics of ORAL

0

Dominic Ayine, the Attorney-General (AG) and Minister for Justice, has replied to critics defending the Mahama government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.

According to the Attorney-General, his office had achieved unprecedented results in corruption-related prosecutions within a single year.

He argued that he is the first  Attorney-General to have brought five corruption cases in one year to court.

Dominic Ayine further dismissed claims that the government was shifting attention away from the ORAL.

Speaking to journalists, the Attorney-General stated, “As for the threat of arming themselves and making the country ungovernable, I think I will treat it with the contempt it deserves”.

“But as far as this government is concerned, I want to reiterate that we will respect the rights and freedoms of every Ghanaian,” the Attorney-General added.

“You know, it’s very interesting when statements like that are being made that we are doing this because ORAL is failing. ORAL is not failing,” he declared.

He added, “Go back and check the record. I am the first Attorney-General in the history of the Fourth Republic to have brought five corruption cases in one year. Go back and check the records”.

“What is happening in court now is rather putting pressure on them because they know that I have been so diligent in my investigations. I have been so diligent in the prosecutions that they are afraid that their people will go down for the acts of corruption that they are engaging in,” he said.

“And so, the accusation that we are shifting focus away from ORAL is not something that I will pay heed to because ORAL is on track and ORAL is going to succeed,” Dr Ayine stressed.

In related news, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says a total of GHC1.5bn in assets has been frozen as ORAL investigations continue.

Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that the frozen assets include individuals involved in 280 ORAL cases under investigation.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on March 3, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “…Mr Speaker, I can report to you that 1.5 billion Ghana cedis in assets have been frozen by people undergoing investigations and those before court, and they include those who are involved in the 280 ORAL cases that are currently being looked into”.

“Mr Speaker, in respect of ORAL, unless and until persons who are under investigation or are before the court have been convicted, you cannot recover anything from them. The most that can be done is that their assets can be frozen,” he explained.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed claims suggesting that President John Mahama stated that the ¢600 million recovered by EOCO was in respect of ORAL.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu detailed that Mahama never referred to ORAL in respect of GH¢600 million recovery, describing the claims as inaccurate.

He added, “It has also been claimed that the President said that EOCO has recovered 600 million Ghana Cedis from Operation Recover All Loots. Mr Speaker, that is not accurate. The President never made reference to ORAL in respect of the GH¢600 million Ghana Cedis”.

If you insult gov’t, you would not be allowed to sleep in your house – NPP warned

0

Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned the opposition NPP politicians and social media users that criticism is allowed but not insults.

The NDC man highlighted that the members of the NDC must know the difference between constructive criticism and abusive attacks.

According to Rashid Tanko-Computer, when criticism escalates to insults, one would not be allowed to sleep in their house.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Rashid Tanko-Computer stressed that while democracy encourages criticism and accountability, insults and threats against leaders could undermine the country’s democratic system.

“If you make reckless statements, you should not be allowed to sleep in your house,” he stated.

“Criticism is not insult… when you graduate from criticism to insults, to threatening, to attacking our democracy, then it becomes a different matter,” he explained.

According to Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC government remains open to criticism from the opposition and the public, when such criticism is expressed respectfully.

“If you criticise the government in the form of an insult, we will take it on board,” he added.

Rashid Computer also highlighted that the National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana B, regularly criticises the government without facing arrest.

“Nana B has been criticising us. He gave a whole press conference, and he’s talking a lot about the government. Has anybody picked him up? Has he been picked up? He says a lot of things about our government,” he said.

“That is his view. He’s coming from a capitalist trope. We are social democrats, so he doesn’t understand or respect some of our policies. That is to him,” he stated.

Tanko-Computer added, “What we are seeing from some of the young guys in NPP, they think that today if you want to be popular, just go on TikTok, go to social media, insult, say all manner of things, start running down the leadership of this country, and then people will start hailing you”.

I was expelled from three SHSs – Kofi Akpaloo reveals

0

Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the 2024 presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has revealed he was expelled from three Senior high schools due to various incidents.

According to Percival Kofi Akpaloo, he was sacked from Kumasi Academy for spending his school fees, sacked from Toase SHS for visiting the girls’ dormitory, and sacked again from Osei Tutu SHS after a complaint was filed against him.

Speaking in an interview with Pure FM TV, Kofi Akpaloo said, “Along the line, I dropped out of school to hustle”.

“An unknown man confronted the headmaster and told him to expel me from school because I was a bad influence; otherwise, I would negatively impact his son, so he expelled me,” he explained.

“I was sacked from Kumasi Academy for spending my school fees, expelled from Toase SHS for visiting the girls’ dormitory, and expelled again from Osei Tutu SHS after a complaint was made against me,” he mentioned.

“I was very good at it. I can create nice designs for your hair when I barber,” he added.

In other news, Dr Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has announced Percival Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and others will be charged with stealing, forgery and money laundering.

According to the Attorney General, Kofi Akpaloo, the alleged misconduct stemmed from an alleged financial impropriety involving a COCOBOD feeder roads contract.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Monday, December 22, the Attorney General detailed, “In the case involving Mr Percival Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) flagged and filed a suspicious transaction report with First Bank Ghana regarding transactions on an account belonging to Pomaah Universal (Gh) Ltd.

Following the STR by the FIC, the EOCO began an investigation into the matter. The investigations revealed that Pomaa Universal (Gh.) Ltd, a business entity owned entirely by Akua Pomaa, was the legitimate contractor that was awarded a COCOBOD feeder road contract.

The contract, valued at over Ghs29.5 million, was awarded in December 2020. Although the project commenced and an initial payment was properly deposited into Pomaa Universal Limited’s account, subsequent payments raised serious concerns regarding misrepresentation, forgery, and unauthorised handling of cheques.

Investigations revealed that Akpaloo secretly incorporated a separate company, Pomaah Universal (Gh.) Ltd, deliberately designed to closely resemble Pomaa Universal (Gh.) Ltd, differing only by the addition of an ‘h’”.

He further detailed, “Between December 2022 and June 2024, Akpaloo collected eight cheques issued by COCOBOD in the name of Pomaa Universal (Gh.) Ltd, totalling Ghs3,169,432.22, and deposited them into the account of his own company at First Bank Ghana.

Again, investigations confirmed that Akua Pomaa was unaware of the existence of Pomaah Universal (Gh.) Ltd and the diversion of funds until COCOBOD contacted her in June 2024 regarding outstanding balances on the contract.

She subsequently discovered that Akpaloo had collected and misdirected the payments without her consent. Akua Pomaa also alleged that Akpaloo forged her signature on the COCOBOD contract using her former name, Mercy Owusu, to secure the agreement without her authorisation”.

The Attorney General continued, “First Bank Ghana’s internal investigations corroborated the fraud allegations, concluding that Akpaloo knowingly misrepresented ownership of the cheques and deposited them into the wrong account.

The bank acknowledged operational failures in detecting discrepancies between the cheque payee names and the account numbers.

The suspects who have been investigated are Percival Kofi Akpaloo, Pomaah Universal (Gh.) Ltd, and Delvine Akpaloo, the spouse of Percival Kofi Akpaloo.

The evidence shows that they engaged in various criminal offences, including stealing, forgery and money laundering and will be charged in January”.

In related news, Nii Adote Otintor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sempe Traditional Area, Nii Adote Otintor II has told the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) to halt their hostile takeover of McDan Aviation at Terminal 1.

The Sempe Chief called on the GACL to restore McDan Aviation’s access to its FBO terminal, adding that the dispute is resolved through lawful procedures.

In a statement issued from the Sempe Stool on March 14, the Sempe Chief stated, “The events represent not just a breach of contract, but an assault on the very spirit of Ghanaian entrepreneurship and a blatant defiance of our judicial system”.

The Sempe Chief highlighted that the GACL ignored a mandatory 90-day notice period required for eviction under the contractual agreement, adding that the development undermines investments made by local investors, which could deter local entrepreneurs from investing in the country.

“The optics of this takeover are troubling. When local investors feel unsafe in their own country, we kill the motivation for future generations to take plausible investment risks,” he said.

The Chief further called on the Ministry of Transport to intervene by restraining GACL and to reinstate McDan Aviation to its Terminal 1 facility.

The Sempe Chief’s remarks follow the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) announcement that it has ended its Fixed Base Operation (FBO) agreement with McDan Aviation Handling Services Limited.

According to the GACL, the FBO agreement has been terminated due to McDan Aviation’s unpaid licence fees, rent, and royalties.

“24-hour economy a scam; Secretariat in coma” – Dr Amin Adam

0

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, the former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, has launched a scathing critic on the NDC-led government’s flagship project, the 24-hour economy initiative.

The former finance minister alleged that the government’s 24-hour economy remains a slogan, adding that the 24-hour economy Secretariat is in a coma as the government has not been releasing funds from the GHS110 million allocated to it this year.

He argued that the Mahama government’s failure to operationalise the secretariat raises serious concerns about the government’s commitment to its flagship policy.

In a post shared on Facebook, Dr Amin Adam wrote, “The 24-hour economy remains a slogan. I have observed a pattern where the government is forcing public agencies to operate 24 hours a day without increasing staff. A public sector approach to this policy is fundamentally flawed.

If anyone was expecting that the government would create jobs through the public sector approach, you must be reviewing your expectations because the government cannot fund it. The wage bill is 30% of the Budget (33% in 2025). Doubling the wage bill will bankrupt the country. Even the most reckless government cannot do this”.

His post stressed that the policy is a scam and dead on arrival, “The policy, if it survives, should be private sector-led, yet the government has failed to provide the incentive package promised in the 2026 Budget to the private sector almost half a year after the budget implementation.

The 24H Economy Secretariat is in a coma as the government has not been releasing funds from the GHS110 million allocated to it this year.

The policy is dead on arrival. It is a scam!” his post added.

Also, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has told the John Mahama-led government not to reduce the 24-Hour Economy intellectual masturbation.

According to Kwsi Pratt, the 24-Hour Economy initiative risks being reduced to what he labels as ‘intellectual masturbation’ if authorities fail to act decisively.

He highlighted that the concept is not theoretical but requires immediate, practical implementation instead.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on May 6, 2026, Kwesi Pratt stated, “It should not, again, I’m going to use a word, please forgive me if it’s inappropriate… it should not be reduced to intellectual masturbation. It’s a practical thing”.

He highlighted that Ghana already has the ministries, departments and agencies capable of running round-the-clock operations, adding that the government must avoid delays caused by bureaucratic processes.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law on Thursday, February 19.

The signing paves the way for the full implementation of the Mahama government’s flagship economic policy.

According to John Mahama, the 24-hour economy authority will now have to move from strategy to implementation following his signing of the bill into law.

Landlord stabs tenant to death over GH¢30 electricity bill

0

A Landlord has reportedly stabbed a tenant over a GH¢30 electricity bill dispute.

Reports suggest that the tragic incident happened at the Medie Ketewa, a community in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The tenant has been identified as 37-year-old Opoku Agyemang.

The information gathered suggests that Opoku Agyemang,  a married man with three children, allegedly owed his landlord GH¢30 in electricity bills.

According to Eyewitnesses, it is unclear what exactly triggered the heated confrontation over the unpaid bill.

Reports suggest both the landlord and tenant were also close friends and long-time work colleagues.

Enoch Idan Danquah, an eyewitness, asserted that the landlord was unhappy with the way thee decease handled payment of the electricity bills and invited him into his room.

The discussion, according to the eyewitness, turned violent after the landlord allegedly pulled out a machete and stabbed the tenant multiple times before he fled the scene.

“ORAL is not failing; it is on track” – Attorney General insists

0

Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has boldly declared that the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is not failing.

According to the Attorney General, ORAL is not failing, declaring that  ORAL is on track and is going to succeed.

The Attorney-General further argued that his office had achieved unprecedented results in corruption-related prosecutions within a single year.

He stressed that he is the first  Attorney-General to have brought five corruption cases in one year to court.

He further added, “Go back and check the record.

Meanwhile, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has categorically stated that the John Mahama government’s Operation Recover All Loots(ORAL) has collapsed.

According to A Plus, he knows people in the current NDC government who have also bought government land.

He disclosed that ORAL has failed because President John Dramani Mahama is not being told the truth.

Kwame A Plus is quoted to have said, “Apart from the fact that I know some people in ORAL and their relatives who own government land, I have land documents like this. When they say they are going to start from 2016, I say you guys are jokers.

One day, when I get angry, I will release everybody’s land documents, and it includes people in this government. They know, and now they know it’s their turn. I know people who have just come, bought government land, and have finished building. I know all of them, so no one should talk about ORAL again. ORAL has collapsed because they are not telling the president the truth,” he said.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed his government is exploring the possibility of engaging private legal firms to assist in ORAL cases.

Mahama detailed that his government is exploring engaging private legal firms to assist in docket preparation for ORAL cases.

In a new card shared by GHOne TV, read, “We’re exploring the possibility of engaging private legal firms to assist in docket preparation for ORAL cases, so they can be sent to court”.

“I doff my hat to Afenyo-Markin for taking on the judge” – Gabby Otchere-Darko

0

Gabby Otchere-Darko, a Lawyer and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following criticism over comments he made about Circuit Court Judge handling Abronye case.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, leadership requires courage, adding that timidity can never be a leadership option and certainly not in a democracy.

He further asserted that he doffs his hat to Alexander Afenyo-Markin for taking on the judge who displayed such troubling zeal in endorsing the imprisonment of free speech.

In a post shared on X by Gabby Otchere-Darko, he wrote, “Leadership requires courage. Timidity can never be a leadership option. Certainly not in a democracy.

Protecting human rights and guarding the dignity of our legal system require men and women of courage, conviction and patriotic verve.

That is why I doff my hat to Alexander Afenyo-Markin for taking on the judge who displayed such troubling zeal in endorsing the imprisonment of free speech.

It is mistaken to view this through the narrow prism of NPP versus NDC, or ruling party versus opposition. The implications are far broader than partisan politics. In a zeitgeist where Gen Zs cherish and actively exercise the freedom to speak their minds on social media, we must be careful of any actions by the system that appear designed to frighten citizens into silence.

Today it may be a political activist. Tomorrow it could be the journalist, the radio commentator, the student, the taxi driver, or the ordinary young Ghanaian with a smartphone and an opinion.

Let the law deal firmly with those who fall foul of it. But let it never do so by compromising the protection of fundamental human rights, due process, and the freedoms that hold our democracy together. Justice must be done and seen to be manifestly done”.

Meanwhile, Justice Abdulai, a Private legal practitioner, has demanded that the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, be cited for contempt for his comments against a circuit court judge.

According to Justice Abdulai, Afenyo-Markin is fully aware that parliamentary immunity cannot shield him from contempt proceedings.

He described the Minority leaders’ comments against the circuit court judge as inappropriate and amounted to contempt of court.

Speaking to GHOne TV, Justice Abdulai stated, “The Minority Leader is very much aware of this. The Minority Leader is a senior lawyer. He knows very well that contempt of court is part of the process and that he cannot rely on his parliamentary immunity”.

“Historically, parliamentary immunity was designed to protect members of parliament from abuse by the executive. Today, we no longer have that kind of situation because we have systems in place to check abuses by the executive against parliamentarians,” he explained.

“And so, if a parliamentarian relies on his immunity to abuse the court, I would insist that the appropriate authorities in this particular case, unfortunately, it can only be the court, invoke its authority to cite him for contempt. And I would strongly urge that to happen,” he added.

Background

The Minority Leader launched yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

The minority leader, speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, fired shots at the circuit court judge, alleging that he doubts whether the judge passed his law exams.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he will continue to disrespect the circuit court judge until he upholds the law, alleging that the judge has no respect for his own judicial oath.

Speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “That judge has no respect for his own judicial oath. I don’t think he read the law. That circuit court judge called Niger. I have no respect for him. For a judge to say that he’s remanding him into BNI custody until the case is finally determined, such a judge can never have my respect.

“I pray that he summons me for contempt. I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law. He’s gone beyond his judicial function, and it is not his first time. It’s as if he has been selected purposely to achieve this. He doesn’t talk law. I don’t know whether he ever passed his law exams. He’s a shame,” he fumed.

Afenyo-Markin added, “It’s a shame on the judiciary, and my Lord Baffoe must pay attention to this, for whatever it is, it’s about his legacy. I’m told that by December, he will be 70, and he will be gone. Is that the legacy he wants to leave after Torkornoo was booted out of office and all manner of accusations levelled against Torkornoo? Is that the judiciary?

“The judiciary, they said, they were going to reset. Is that a reset? Where a judge will say he is remanding an accused person because if he allows him to go home, if he grants him bail, he’s likely to talk again, so he should remain in custody?” he said.

You will be used as a scapegoat if NDC loses the 2028 elections – Ato Forson warned

0

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, has been warned that he will be used as a scapegoat if the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) loses the 2028 elections.

According to the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, if the party regain power, they will retaliate against the NDC.

He argued that in the same way, the NDC is pursuing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the NPP will also pursue Ato Forson.

Speaking in an interview on Angel TV, Paul Yandoh stated, “If Ken Ofori-Atta has committed sins, as for you, you will not be given any bail condition Ato Forson. His own people, the NDC, will point him out as the one who made them suffer.

If the NDC lose in 2028, Ato Forson will be used as a scapegoat; they themselves will bring him after the 2028 elections. The way they are pursuing Ken Ofori-Atta is the same way the NPP will do to him after the 2028 elections. The NDC should pray the world ends because if not, they won’t find it easy in the country,” he said.

Some Ghanaians reacting to Paul Yandoh stated, “WHAT HE MENTIONED IS NDC, BUT IF YOU HAVE SENSE YOU WILL KNOW HE IS THREATENING ALL GHANAIANS WHO VOTED NDC TOO…. AT THIS POINT THE NPP TOP LEADERS MUST JUST STOP ALL THEIR COMMUNICATIONS FROM SPEAKING… COS I NO SEE A SINGLE ONE WEY TALK LIKE SENDE DEY EN HEAD BEFORE ASWEAR”.

A netizen added, “Listening to him is like listening to someone with a low sense of communication.

No Ghanaian will vote for this party”.

One X user added, “This NPP party isn’t helping the citizens of this country. As the biggest opposition party to the ruling party, your criticism and arguments have to be ones that the government can’t overlook. But wei mo “Ibrahim Mahama has impregnated his spokesperson’s wife” – the narrative”.

An X user added, “Saying that this man speaks for market women is an insult. He speaks for fools who are on the same empty brainwave level. I’ve never heard him say anything that passed my ears into my brain. Such empty people as leaders Ei”.

One netizen added, “Ghanaians are slow. Have you seen progressive countries promoting partisan politics/debates/issues after elections? No, because after elections, we all need to focus on the nation and build it. The reason Ghana isn’t moving forward is because of partisan politics”.

“Hello, please, please is the NPP coming to arrest the NDC and forgetting the Ghanaian people and developing the country because every day this man will come here talk about the NDC will see when they come to power awww wy is that all u think about aww”, a netizen added.

An X user added, “They’re not interested in telling Ghanaians why they deserve a second chance in the common sense, but the focus is on how they will pay back the NDC. I think the NPP enjoys what its communicators do cos they feel so entitled and believe they are coming back”.

One X user added, “What has NPP not done already in 2017-2024? The cliche “ORDER FROM ABOVE ” muted the police and was enough to clip citizens’ rights. NPP want to construct their own culture of silence and intimidation on us, whilst they demonstrate freely to the gates of Flagstaff House today”.

“We need prayers; we are working hard on three cases” – Wontumi’s Lawyer ‘begs’

0

The lawyer for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, Andy Appiah Kubi has called on the public for prayers as they work on the cases filed against his client.

According to Wontumi’s Lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, the first thing they need is prayers while they work on three cases against his clients.

Andy Appiah Kubi disclosed that his client has made himself available to the prosecution and that they will present their case so everyone can be heard before a final verdict is delivered.

Speaking to journalists at the Accra High Court ahead of proceedings, Appiah-Kubi stated, “We need prayers. We have been working hard on these three cases. This case of Exim Bank has been adjourned for a month to allow the prosecution to prepare the document”.

“We are fine except that prayers are necessary”, he added.

Wontumi’s lawyer further explained that one of the cases involving the EXIM Bank had been adjourned for about a month to allow prosecutors time to prepare.

His comments follow, Chairman Wontumi being slapped with fresh charges over a GH¢14.3M Exim Bank loan case.

Wontumi has been slapped with fresh charges, including defrauding by false pretence.

Wontumi, Thomas Antwi-Boasiako (at large) and Wontumi Farms Limited are facing four counts of charges per the charge sheet filed on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The charge sheet filed on Friday, May 15, 2026, signed by Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, detailed that “Chairman Wontumi is personally facing three of the four counts of the charge of defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); uttering of a forged document, contrary to Section 169 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); and money laundering, contrary to Section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044)”.

“Together with Thomas Antwi-Boasiako and Wontumi Farms Limited, they are facing the charge of intentionally causing financial loss to a public body, contrary to Section 179A(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29)”, Starr FM stated.

It will be recalled that Chairman Wontumi and other persons are standing trial for allegedly undertaking mining operations on a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region without the consent of the sector minister.

The state has also accused Wontumi of permitting two individuals to undertake mining activities on the concession without authority and facilitating those operations.

He is also standing trial for mining in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

Edward Akuoko, a former General Manager of Akonta Mining, has told the High Court in Accra that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, instructed them to mine in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

According to Edward Akuoko, testifying as the first prosecution witness, he disclosed that instructed them despite the absence of the required mining permits.

Reports by Starr FM read, “In his witness statement, adopted by the court on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Ekuoko said Chairman Wontumi (the second accused) instructed them to carry out mining operations in the forest reserve.

“After some months, A2 asked us to move into another area to continue our mining,” he told the court.

“That area was in the Aowin District, near Enchi, in the Western North Region. It was a forest reserve—the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.”

Ekuoko said he questioned the legality of the directive.

“I knew from experience that we required permits and licences to mine in such areas. I asked A2 whether we had that authorisation, since I did not intend to do anything illegal,” he said.

According to him, Chairman Wontumi assured him that approval had been secured.

“He told me to proceed, saying he had spoken with the then Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, and that the Minister was aware.”

Ekuoko said he later discovered that the so-called permit was not a valid mining licence”.

“It was only a no-objection letter from the Forestry Commission in response to a request by the Minister. It was not a mining permit. We began mining in the reserve regardless,” he stated.

Following the adoption of his statement as evidence-in-chief, counsel for the accused persons, led by Andy Appiah-Kubi, began cross-examining the witness”.

“Abronye’s blood will be on your hands if he dies” – Maurice Ampaw warns Judge

0

Maurice Ampaw, a Private legal practitioner, has issued a warning to the Circuit Court Judge in the caase involving the NPP Bono Regional Chairman’s Abronye DC.

According to Maurice Ampaw, the Circuit Court Judge’s decision to remand Abronye despite his alleged health condition was unfair.

He warned that if Abronye dies, his blood will be on the hands of the judge.

Speaking on Movement TV, Maurice Ampaw stated, “Because he referred to your colleague as a political judge, you have remanded a seriously ill person. My Lord, if Abronye dies, will you be happy? I don’t know you, but as you sit there, are you able to eat? You have a family, and you’re a churchgoer; don’t you get scared about his medical condition?”

“You are punishing the person because of his comments, forgetting that power is transient. The judicial power doesn’t belong to you,” he said.

He added, “I’m addressing every judge in this country. Judicial power, according to Article 125 of the Constitution, doesn’t belong to you but emanates from the people. Justice is the people’s property. You [judges] are just caretakers”.

“Every judge is an ordinary Ghanaian who has had the privilege to attend law school, gone through the bench, and has been given the mandate to become a judge. You can’t lord it over us, you can’t be wicked,” Ampaw stated.

“Abronye’s medical condition has deteriorated, and if he dies, the judge will never have peace. His blood will be on your hands. Has he committed murder?”

He revealed, “The painful thing is that this same judge has even refused to draft a court order, so at least Abronye can go to the High Court for a bail application,” he revealed.

“Every suspect and accused person has the right to bail,” he said.

Also, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has raised fresh concerns about Abronye DC’s health and conditions in detention.

According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Abronye’s wife visited him on Saturday, revealing that his health is deteriorating significantly.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday News on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “They are not allowing the lawyers access to see him since Wednesday. When you go to the BNI, they say it is a police case. When you go to the police, they send you back. It has been back and forth”.

“Her feedback to us is that his health is deteriorating significantly. He was already unwell and had recently travelled out of the country for treatment. His condition has worsened, and he is in a dire situation,” Oppong Nkrumah alleged.

“A simple refusal of a bail application should not take seven days for the order to be drafted. It was only in the last hour after my first interview that my lawyers informed me that the court registrars had finally furnished us with a copy of the order,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Accra Circuit Court has given its reasoning behind the denial of the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

Reports suggest Abronye appeared before Judge Joseph Yennuban Kunsong on May 13, where he pleaded not guilty to charges.

Abronye’s lawyer, Daniel Martey Addo and Eugene Ansah pleaded with the court to grant their client bail, citing earlier cases were he was granted bail.

However, the state prosecutors led by DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye and ACP Alex Odonkor opposed the application.

They argued that the accused allegedly committed the current offence while already on bail in a separate case.

Judge Kunsong stated: “The court is of the view that when granted bail, the accused will commit further offences. This court specifically relies on Section 96(5)(c) and (d) of Act 30 of 1960.”

The court refused the bail application and ordered that Abronye DC be remanded into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) until his next court appearance on May 27, 2026.

The Judge further directed prosecutors to complete their investigations and file all disclosures within 14 days.

How the Ghanaian Cedi depreciated by 8.4% against the dollar in the first 5 months of 2026

0

The May 2026 Economic and Financial Summary released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has disclosed that the Ghana cedi depreciated by 8.4% against the US dollar during the first five months of 2026.

The decline higher than the 6.6% depreciation recorded over the same period in 2025.

The BoG May 2026 Economic and Financial Summary shows renewed pressure on the local currency despite improvements in several key macroeconomic indicators.

The BoG data disclosed that the cedi weakened from an average mid-rate of 10.95 to the dollar in January to 11.4125 by mid-May 2026.

“The currency came under pressure early in the year, recording a year-to-date depreciation of 4.6 per cent in January before briefly recovering in February”, citinews stated.

The Ghana cedi resumed its downward trend in March and continued deteriorating steadily through April and May.

However, unlike the sharp volatility witnessed in 2025, the 2026 depreciation pattern has been steadier and more sustained.

The Ghana cedi’s decline comes despite relatively bright external fundamentals.

Also, the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026 released by the Bank of Ghana details that Ghana’s total public debt stock increased to GH¢674.1 billion in February 2026.

In terms of dollars, Ghana’s debt stood at $63.1 billion, up from $61.3 billion recorded in December 2025.

Also, Ghana’s debt-to-GDP ratio declined to 42.2% in February 2026 from 44.7% in December 2025.

The latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026, released by the Bank of Ghana, however, shows stronger economic growth and improved fiscal performance.

Part of the report cited from citinews read, “The data showed that external debt stood at $29.3 billion in February 2026, representing 19.6% of GDP and remaining broadly unchanged over the period.

Domestic debt, however, continued to rise, increasing to GH¢360.4 billion in February from GH¢341 billion in January.

This accounted for about 22.6% of GDP.

The rise in domestic debt is due to the government’s continued reliance on the local market to finance budget operations and manage the economy”.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s fiscal deficit-to-GDP ratio stood at 0.3% in March 2026, while the primary balance recorded a surplus of 1.2 per cent of GDP.

In other news, the Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, has announced the successful conclusion of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the Government of Ghana, the country’s plans are to transition away from a financial bailout arrangement toward a non-financing policy support framework.

“All hail Circuit Court 9 Judge!!!” – Afenyo-Markin mocks Judge in Abronye case once again

The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has mocked the Circuit Court Judge in the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

Afenyo-Markin is sharing a post of the Accra Circuit Court’s reasoning for denying Abronye bail, calling on Ghanaians to hail Circuit Court 9 Judge following what he described as a famous ruling.

In a post shared on X, Afenyo-Markin wrote, “After 𝟲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 of waiting, the famous ruling of Circuit Court 9 in the Abronye case is out. All right-thinking members of society can now read for themselves.

According to the Judge, “𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘾𝙊𝙐𝙍𝙏 𝙄𝙎 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙑𝙄𝙀𝙒 𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙒𝙃𝙀𝙉 𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙀𝘿 𝘽𝘼𝙄𝙇 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙐𝙎𝙀𝘿 𝙒𝙄𝙇𝙇 𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙈𝙄𝙏 𝙁𝙐𝙍𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍 𝙊𝙁𝙁𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀𝙎.” “𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙊𝙍𝘿𝙄𝙉𝙂𝙇𝙔, 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝘼𝙄𝙇 𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙇𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 𝘽𝙔 𝘾𝙊𝙐𝙉𝙎𝙀𝙇 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙐𝙎𝙀𝘿 𝙄𝙎 𝙍𝙀𝙁𝙐𝙎𝙀𝘿. 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙐𝙎𝙀𝘿 𝙄𝙎 𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙀𝘽𝙔 𝙍𝙀𝙈𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙀𝘿 𝙄𝙉𝙏𝙊 𝘽𝙉𝙄 𝘾𝙐𝙎𝙏𝙊𝘿𝙔.”

𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗜𝗟 𝗖𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗨𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗧 𝟵 𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗚𝗘!!!”

His comments follow the Accra Circuit Court’s final explanation of the reasoning behind the denial of the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

Earlier, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) launched yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

“We will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable” – Salam Mustapha warns

0

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned the John Mahama-led government that they will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable.

His comments come on the heels of Abronye DC, who was rearrested on May 13, 2026, and has since been detained at the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) over allegations of offensive conduct likely to breach the peace and the publication of false statements against a judge.

In related news, the Accra Circuit Court has explained the reasoning behind the denial of the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

Reports suggest Abronye appeared before Judge Joseph Yennuban Kunsong on May 13, where he pleaded not guilty to charges.

The Judge further directed prosecutors to complete their investigations and file all disclosures within 14 days.

Meanwhile, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that the party will stage a mammoth demonstration against the Mahama government’s harassment and intimidation of opposition members.

Nana B highlighted that the Mahama government is trying to silence critics of the government by harassing and intimidating NPP members using state security agencies, but they will never be silenced.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, May 13, Henry Nana Boakye stated, “We are going to rise; trust me, in the coming days, we are going to stage a mammoth demonstration. We are going to have a series of activities. We can never be intimidated”.

” Political harassment “is a worrying development, and this attempt and this culture introduced by this government to criminalise and suppress free speech is quite alarming”, he added.

He further added, “There are so many important matters going on in this country, and what you can just focus on is to harass and politically intimidate your opponent”.

You are losing respect – Afenyo-Markin told

0

Lamtiig Apanga, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gaming Commission, has told the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin he is losing respect.

According to Lamtiig Apanga, the Afenyo-Markin went low in attacking the judge, and he is losing respect.

He claimed that the Minority leader might be trying to compensate by remaining relevant to Dr Bawumia after supporting Kennedy Agyapong in the NPP primaries.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV,  Lamtiig Apanga stated, “There are certain lines we do not expect people to cross. Someone like the Minority Leader is not an ordinary lawyer or an ordinary citizen. We have high expectations of him because he is the Minority Leader and has been a lawyer for more than 20 years.

“He has been in private practice for a long time and is held in high esteem. He leads the NPP in Parliament, and many people look up to him. Young lawyers and students also look up to him”.

“If he can go out there and attack a judge in the manner he did, then it is most unfortunate, to say the least. He went too low, and I think he is gradually losing his respect, whether he realises it or not,” he said.

“I understand he is facing challenges in remaining relevant within the NPP, especially after supporting Kennedy Agyapong, who lost the primary. He is trying very hard to win the endorsement of Bawumia to maintain his position as Minority Leader, so he feels the need to constantly stay relevant,” he added.

His comment follows, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) launching yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

The Minority leader’s remarks follow Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who has been rearrested today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Reports suggest that Abronye has been remanded for two weeks as investigations continue into allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Spokesperson, Saviour Kudze, has slammed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following his comments against Circuit Court judge handling the case involving Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

According to the GBA, Alexander Afenyo-Markin acted very unprofessionally and unethically.

The GBA spokesperson further described his actions as unpalatable, unbecoming of a senior lawyer of his standing at the Bar.

Speaking on the matter, GBA Spokesperson Saviour Kudze stated, “It is very unpalatable, unbecoming of a senior lawyer of his standing at the Bar, particularly so a senior lawyer who is privileged enough to be the Minority Leader of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, a lawyer who I am told is also a chief. Is this the kind of example he wants to give his constituents?”

“As a lawyer, if his complaint is that a judge has acted in a way according to him not within the ambit of the law, this is not the way I think that he should go, especially somebody like him,” he said.

He added, “My thinking is that the appellate system is not there for fun. If the judge didn’t act within his jurisdiction, he knew what to do. He shouldn’t go to the press, not at all.”

“We are disappointed, and he has acted very unprofessionally and unethically because, per our etiquette rules, we don’t do things like this by attacking the qualifications or competence of a judge,” Kudze added.

The latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026 released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) detail that Ghana’s total public debt stock increased to GH¢674.1 billion in February 2026.

In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu read, “1. The Government of Ghana announces the successful conclusion of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF) financial bailout programme with the International Monetary Fund.

2. This milestone represents the restoration of macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability. well ahead of the original timeline.

3. Following the derailment of the IMF financial bailout programme at the end of 2024, the government of President John Mahama in 2025 acted decisively to bring it back on track and to recalibrate it by implementing a frontloaded fiscal consolidation, bold expenditure rationalisation, and strong structural reforms.

4. These efforts have delivered tangible results: inflation has reduced significantly, the cedi has strengthened markedly, public debt as a share of GDP has declined sharply, and economic growth has rebounded strongly

5. Ghana’s sovereign credit ratings have improved significantly from restricted default (Junk Status) to ‘B’ with a positive outlook, representing five distinct rating levels upgrades.

6. This reflects improved fiscal performance, normalised creditor relations, stronger external buffers, and renewed market confidence

7. Ghana’s gross international reserves have risen to an all-time high, reaching approximately US$14.5 billion by February 2026, almost 6-months of import cover.

8. These foreign exchange reserve buffers provide Ghana with the capacity to withstand external shocks and stand on its own feet

9. This announcement marks the definitive end of Ghana’s financial bailout relationship with the IMF.

10. Government is exceedingly grateful to the people of Ghana for their sacrifices, resilience and forbearance.

11. The Government also expresses deep gratitude to its bilateral creditors, the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) and external and domestic investors for their collective sacrifice.

12. Going forward, Ghana will engage with the IMF Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI)

13. The PCI is a form of Technical Assistance engagement with the IMF. It is a non-financing instrument designed to help countries implement economic reforms, signal commitment to policies, and unlock financing from private investors and other development partners.

14. For the avoidance of doubt, the PCI does not provide a financial bailout, but will offer continuous tapacity development, confidence boost to the market, and deliver a catalytic effect for fresh financing to Ghana.

15. This Non-bailout Technical Assistance Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) will complement the government’s effort to achieve an Investment Grade rating.

16. Achieving an Investment Grade rating will significantly lower sovereign and private sector borrowing costs, attract long-term institutional investors, increase foreign direct investment, and unlock cheaper financing for critical infrastructure development and private sector growth

17. Ultimately, this engagement will support the government’s effort to accelerate sustainable development, create jobs and raise living standards for all Ghanaians

18. President John Mahama and his administration remain fully committed to good governance, prudent economic management, fiscal discipline, and creating an attractive environment for both domestic and international investment”, the statement concluded.

Relief for students as Rent Control places a TEMPORAL HOLD on all hostel fees increment

0

The Office of the Rent Commissioner and the Rent Control Department have issued a statement directing all private hostel owners, facility managers, operators, and stakeholders within the student accommodation sector to place a TEMPORAL HOLD on all or any intended or proposed increment in hostel accommodation fees.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the statement signed by the Acting Rent Commissioner and Head of the Rent Control Department, Frederick Opoku, announced the directive follows public concern concerning the hostel fees for tertiary institutions.

According to the statement, repeated hikes in accommodation charges are placing a heavy financial burden on students, parents and guardians.

Parts of the statement read, “These persistent increments have become a matter of urgent public concern due to the economic burden placed on students, parents, and guardians”.

“The situation, if not properly regulated and managed, may adversely affect access to accommodation and the general welfare of students pursuing higher education,” the statement said.

“The Office of the Rent Commissioner, together with the Rent Control Department, hereby directs all private hostel owners, facility managers, operators, and stakeholders within the student accommodation sector to place a TEMPORAL HOLD on all or any intended or proposed increment in hostel accommodation fees for the 2026/2027 academic year until further notice,” it directed.

“All stakeholders are strongly encouraged to attend and cooperate fully with the directive in the interest of students, parents, educational institutions and national development,” the statement said.

In related news,  Frederick Opoku has defended the ongoing clampdown on unlawful hostel fee increases.

According to the Rent Control Boss, the move is to ensure fairness and protect students and parents, not discouraging private investment.

He disclosed that the move forms part of plans to address the rising cost of student accommodation and ease the financial burden on students and their parents.

The Rent Control Boss stressed that the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not by using any Rambo-style or gorilla means.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Acting Rent Commissioner Fredrick Opoku stated, “Students across the country are suffering, parents across the country are suffering, and the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not using any Rambo-style or gorilla means. We are trying to do it systematically and through true engagement”.

“We shouldn’t see this as attacking anybody’s business. This is about building a better Ghana for all of us. Landlords, property owners, tenants and students will all benefit if this is done well,” he said.

Frederick Opoku has criticised SSNIT for the excessive fees they are charging for the Pentagon Hostel on the University of Ghana campus.

According to the Rent Commissioner, SSNIT must bow its head in shame for exploiting parents who pension they manage.

Frederick Opoku quizzed SSNIT on whether they want students to engage in prostitution before they can afford their hostel fees.

Speaking on Hitz FM, Frederick Opoku fumed, “If you go to Pent hostel, called Ghana Hostels Limited, that is the name, Pent for SSNIT. You SSNIT that you are managing people’s pension rights, and the same parent you manage their pension, you are exploiting them. What kind of behaviour is that?

SSNIT should bow its head in shame; you can never use people’s money and manage and still exploit them. I went there, I didn’t bring the sheet, and I don’t want to be liable for any legal issues.  I just want to speak to the issues”.

He added, “You go to Pent, they say there are new Pent and old Pent. Look at this terminology and semantics. This one is a new block, and the old block has 4 students in one room; they will take you like GHS6000 for the old one.

The new one is GHS8000 per semester, in fact, one room with air conditioning, they are talking about GHS20,000 plus or GHS30,000. What is the meaning of this? Do you want them to do prostitution to come and pay?”

Why Abronye DC was denied bail by Circuit Court Judge  – Details

0

The Accra Circuit Court has finally explained the reasoning behind the denial of the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

It will be recalled that Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, was rearrested today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Reports suggest that Abronye has been remanded for two weeks as investigations continue into allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) launched yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

His unique persona was shaped by his life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination and dedication to His calling and conviction.

During this time of grief, we humbly request that the general public respect the privacy of the family and loved ones.

The burial and funeral arrangements shall be duly communicated in the coming days”.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has warned the general public against conducting any business transactions or funeral-related dealings with Israel Kwadwo Safo, alias Nana Kwadwo Akofena.

According to the family, no individual has been authorised to act on behalf of the family in any transactions related to the businesses of the late Apostle or the organisation of his funeral.

In a statement signed by the family’s spokesperson warn the public from engaging in any financial, contractual, or organisational dealings with Kwadwo Safo Jnr, the former CEO of the Kantanka Group of Companies, the second son and fifth born of the late Apostle.

“The FBI is not God” – Abu Trica brags on snapchat after securing bail

0

Embattled Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has taken to social media to brag after securing a GH¢30 million bail over his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam.

According to Abu Trica, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is not God, adding that just like the Ghana Police, when they make an allegation, they must prove it.

He further added that it doesn’t matter whether people see him as a fraudster or not.

Abu Trica, who took to Snapchat on May 18, 2026, bragged, saying, “For those of you suffering from an inferiority complex, just know that the FBI is not God.

Just like the Ghana Police, when they make an allegation, they must prove it. It doesn’t matter whether you see Abu Trica as a fraudster or not”.

His comment follows, by his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, some months ago were he detailed how a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent set up his client.

According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars.

He alleged that the FBI informant asked Abu Trica to help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into, where he would receive 13,000 dollars if he found an account.

In a post on X, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “Let’s Talk Abu Trica.

Abu Trica was set up by an FBI informant who approached him, saying that he was expecting some 50,000 dollars. And that Abu Trica should help find a bank account for them to transfer the money into.

His share would be 13,000 dollars if he found an account. Abu Trica went around asking different people because he thought he was making 13,000 dollars. Someone gave him an account, which he gave to the FBI undercover agents. And he was paid 13,000 dollars”.

He added, “This is the entire evidence the FBI provided. When Abu was arrested, the FBI came to him to give them the name of the person whose account it was.

Abu didn’t. Before the matter went to court, they had EOCO Issue a press statement claiming that Abu had scammed people of 8 million dollars. There is no 8 million USD anywhere. We are here because of 13,000 dollars”.

Barker-Vormawor disclosed that Abu Trica was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, “Now Abu was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. We presented the magistrate with 80 pages of legal argument, tracing the history of the Extradition Treaty, showing that the offence of conspiracy is not an extraditable offence.

Now, the matter is under appeal, so I won’t say more than that. Except that in my whole life, I have never met a judge so eager to extradite a person before. Complete refusal to follow due process. Her mind was made up from day 1.

The truth is, out of 200 requests Ghanaian has received, all 200 have been extradited by our courts. 200-0 oo. If our Courts are willing to follow the law, not be afraid of America, Abu’s case will be 200-1”.

In related news,  Abu Trica, arrested for allegedly engaging in cyber fraud, has told the High Court he was interrogated by three FBI agents and forced to sign a document he could not read.

According to Abu Trica, while in the custody of Ghanaian authorities, he was subjected to a coercive interrogation by three foreign nationals introduced as FBI agents.

He added that the FBI threatened to link him to fraudulent transactions worth up to $8 million if he did not disclose his phone passwords.

In a court document, Abu Trica narrated his alleged harrowing experience in the hands of the Ghanaian authorities and the FBI agents.

The embattled Abu Trica claim his arrest and detention were marked by physical violence, coercive interrogations by foreign agents, and the looting of his personal property, adding that he was handcuffed, starved, and interrogated by foreign agents.

The court documents show lawyers of Abu Trica claim that over 15 armed officers stormed his apartment in the Airport Residential Area while he was playing video games with friends.

My best performing minister in this Mahama administration is… – Paul Adom-Otchere

0

Paul Adom-Otchere, the renowned Broadcaster and host of Good Evening Ghana, has revealed his best-performing minister in the second coming of President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, his best performing minister in this Mahama administration is the Roads Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza.

In a post shared on X by GHOne TV, Paul Adom-Otchere is quoted to have said, “My best performing minister in this Mahama administration is Roads Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza”.

Meanwhile, Governs Kwame Agbodza, one of the key performing ministers, has been tasked by President Mahama to lead the charge for his legacy project, “The Big Push”.

According to Governs Kwame Agbodza, his job is to make sure President John Mahama’s vision of improved roads across Ghana comes to pass.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mr Agbodza stated, “The President has committed to Ghanaians to improving roads across the country. You have heard him whenever he goes to meet stakeholders, talking about the networks to be improved”.

“So, the President has committed resources for these roads to be improved. He made provisions in the budget for the Finance Minister to read. My job is to make sure that the vision of the President comes to pass,” Mr Agbodza stated.

In a high-pressure sector, with early optimism around stronger delivery and accountability, his real judgment will come from actual road improvements across the country over time.

Some of the roads under the Big Push project include the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, with the sod-cutting coming soon, the Wenchi–Bole–Wa Road, the Ho–Denu Road, the Dodowa–Afienya–Dawhenya Road, the Kumasi Inner & Outer Road Network Projects, Sunyani–Techiman–Wenchi Road Network, the Tamale–Savannah Corridor Roads, and also the Cape Coast–Takoradi Dualisation.

Over fifty major road projects are underway under the Big Push project, with the Roads Minister announcing that the John Mahama-led Big Push projects will be completed in twenty-four months.

The roads minister revealed that the Big Push road projects have been deliberately structured to span two years.

However, the only blemish in Governs Kwame Agbodza’s work so far is the failure to roll out the electronic road toll system and also the brouhaha surrounding the Big Push sole-sourced contract.

In related news, Kwame Governs Agbodza has been issued a two-month ultimatum to the contractor of the Wenchi–Sawla road, Maripoma Enterprise Limited.

According to the Roads Minister, Maripoma Enterprise Limited must deliver at least 20% progress on the Wenchi–Sawla Lot 7 road project or face contract termination.

Kwame Governs Agbodza made this known after inspecting the project and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance.

The Roads Minister stated, “It’s either you do the 20%, or we terminate. You are not the first person we are telling,” Mr Agbodza said during the inspection.

“We went to the Western North. You didn’t even turn up on the site. You did not even turn up on the site when you took mobilisation on that one as well. In fact, you didn’t even have a site camp,” he said

“You are a big company, but your bigness is not showing in the actual delivery of your projects,” he said. “We need to say this in the afternoon for everybody to hear. You must change the way you operate your things. At the moment, it’s not helpful to you and to the country.”

He further added, “You are sitting on the job. Well, we have said what we have to say. You have two months to do 20 per cent, or we are not even coming to talk to you. We’ll terminate, and you can go to court”.

“Go and see the condition in which the people are in that section of the road. Why? It’s not right,” he said.

“We should be celebrating policy like the Big Push. It was built around the Ghanaian contractor, and it was deliberate,” he added.

“I’m a tough nut to crack” – Sam George speaks on clash with PAC chair Abena Osei-Asare

0

Sam George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations of Ghana, has reacted to his clash at the  Chair of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) Abena Osei-Asare on Monday, May 18, 2026.

According to Sam George, there is no bad blood between him and Abena Osei-Asare.

He disclosed that his friendship with the PAC Chairperson would not prevent them from carrying out their duties.

Sam George further disclosed that he is a tough nut to crack, adding that he came prepared, knowing full well his colleagues are only returning the favour for what he did to NPP ministers.

Speaking to the media after the encounter, Sam George stated, “Konadu is a very good friend. Abena is a friend as well, and maybe that’s part of the reason why our exchanges are very heated, because we do this in our regular conversations. But my point is very simple. The fact that we are friends does not negate the fact that the work has to be done”.

“I’ve sat on this committee for eight years. I’ve been someone who has toughly questioned people, and I know that my colleagues are only returning the favour for what I did to NPP ministers.”

He added, “But I’m a tough nut to crack, and so that’s why I come prepared. The bottom line is, you can ask me any question, but you just need to give me the audience as well to respond, because if I’m responding and you don’t allow me to respond, then it becomes a monologue; it’s not a conversation, and people need to be able to get appreciation.”

“I think that Abena and Konadu do their work as Members of Parliament. They do a very good job of scrutinising and asking probing questions, and I will also do my job of holding my own and stating my position.

“So, no hard feelings, no bad blood. I’m going to join them for lunch,” the Ningo Prampram legislator added.

Sam George’s comments follow his clash with Abena Osei-Asare on Monday, May 18, 2026, when he took his seat at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting.

The tensions flared when Sam George clashed with Abena Osei-Asare over poor service delivery by some telcos.

Sam George explained that the Mahama administration had already directed telecom companies to expand infrastructure to improve network quality.

He stated, “Private businesses are about making profit and those profits they paid to you over eight years at the finance ministry as corporate taxes. Policy decision and policy leadership ought to make sure that we took steps to protect the customer, and I’m saying that we, under this reset agenda and under a responsible government, have done so”.

During his submission, Osei-Asare attempted to interrupt and urged him to go straight to the point, which led to a tense confrontation.

Abena Osei-Asare criticised Sam George for politicising the issue when he attempted to blame the previous administration.

“Afenyo-Markin acted very unprofessionally and unethically” – GBA

0

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Spokesperson, Saviour Kudze, has slammed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, following his comments against Circuit Court judge handling the case involving Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, had earlier accused the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) of showing political bias.

He stressed that an NPP lawyer, Afenyo-Markin, has abused a judge, but the GBA have loudly been silent, arguing that they would have responded quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members.

In a post shared on Facebook on Monday, May 18, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “I have long dismissed the Ghana Bar Association as an NPP grouping.

If it were not so, the intolerable abuse of this Judge by the Minority Leader would have elicited an immediate, uncompromising response.

They have been known to respond quickly to far less offensive commentary by non-NPP members.

Alas, one of their own, an NPP lawyer, has abused a judge, so they have been loudly silent.

What insufferable duplicity!”.

His comments follow the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) launching yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

The Minority leader remarks follow Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who has been rearrested today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Reports suggest that Abronye has been remanded for two weeks as investigations continue into allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.

Wontumi slapped with fresh charges

0

Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has been slapped with fresh charges over a GH¢14.3M Exim Bank loan case.

Earlier, Dr Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, revealed that the state will prosecute Chairman Wontumi, Wontumi Farms and its directors over alleged GHS24m EXIM Bank fraud.

According to the Attorney-General, Chairman Wontumi and his company, Wontumi Farms Limited, made fraudulent misrepresentations to Exim Bank to obtain the loan facility.

He revealed that investigations conducted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office revealed evidence of defrauding by false pretences, forgery, and causing financial loss to the state.

Dr Dominic Ayine announced that Bernard Antwi Boasiako, chief promoter of Wontumi Farms, Exim Bank approved a medium term-loan facility of Ghs18,734,260.00, which included a grant component of Ghs6,768,260.00.

This offer was accepted via a letter dated January 23, 2018, and Chairman Wontumi, acting as the Chief Executive Officer of Wontumi Farms Limited and Thomas Antwi Boasiako, as director of Wontumi Farms Limited.

The offer letter indicated that the approval of the medium-term loan facility was subject to the Bank’s terms and conditions. The loan offer letter further stated that the loan was secured with 10,000 acres of the farmland of Wontumi Farms Limited at Asare Nkwanta.

The breakdown of the approved Ghs18,734,260.00 loan as per the offer letter is as follows:

Purchase of agricultural plant and machinery – GH₵3,865,000.00

Working capital – GH₵8,101,000.00

Grant -staff cost and consultancy fees – GH₵6,768,260.00.

Dr Dominic Ayine revealed that the equipment was never procured, adding that the farming enterprise never materialised, with no young persons being employed in Asare Nkwatia.

According to the Attorney General, the company and its director and CEO forged a receipt in order to deceive Exim Bank into believing that they complied with the loan conditions.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Monday, December 22, the Attorney General detailed, “Our investigations established that Chairman Wontumi had approached Kas-Sama Enterprise, an industrial equipment dealer and obtained an invoice with a promise to return to purchase the said equipment. He never went back to purchase the equipment. Instead, he forged the invoice he obtained from Kas-Sama Enterprise by removing the word “invoice” and replacing it with “receipt. This forged receipt was then submitted to Exim Bank as proof that he had purchased the said equipment after the disbursement.

“The owner of Kas-Sama Enterprise confirmed to investigators that the only document he issued to Wontumi Farms through Chairman Wontumi was an invoice and not a receipt,” he said.

“The forged receipt submitted to Exim Bank suggested that Kas-Sama Enterprise acknowledged receipt of Four Million Ghana Cedis for the purchase of earth-moving machines and farming equipment. The so-called receipt had on it “50 days to supply and 1 year guarantee and service, meaning that it was a pro-form invoice and not a receipt of payment,” the AG said.

The Attorney General revealed that prosecution will commence after the Christmas break, following the exact amount being confirmed by EXIM Bank.

He added, “In the face of the evidence we have gathered in this investigation, thoroughly conducted by EOCO, we have made the decision to prosecute Wontumi farms, and it’s directors with defrauding by false pretences, forgery and causing financial loss to the state in the sum of GHS24,255,735.

“This figure represents the principal sum plus the interest that has accrued so far. By the time we file charges, which will definitely be after the Christmas break, it might be that this figure would have increased because the interest on the principal keeps compounding.

“So we will get the exact figure of the amount that is involved in this criminal enterprise from the EXIM bank before we file charges in court.”

“I am also an MP; you can’t heckle me” – Watch Sam George clash with PAC Chair Abena Osei-Asare

During his submission, Osei-Asare attempted to interrupt and urged him to go straight to the point, which led to a tense confrontation.

Abena Osei-Asare criticised Sam George for politicising the issue when he attempted to blame the previous administration.

“Sam George: “Private businesses are about making profit, and those profits they paid to you over eight years at the finance ministry as corporate taxes. Policy decision and policy leadership ought to make sure that we take steps to protect the customer, and I’m saying that we under this reset agenda and under a responsible government have done so.

Osei-Asare: Minister, I beg you.

Sam George: Honourable, I’m also a Member of Parliament, don’t do this. Please, I am on the floor, let me make my point. No, you won’t heckle me. Don’t play sentiment.

Osei-Asare: I’m not heckling you, but we beg you, just go straight to the point. We are tired of this politics.

Sam George: Honourable, you need to rein in the honourable member. She’s being unruly. You’re being unruly. Please, this is unbecoming of a Member of Parliament. Please, stop doing this.

Osei-Asare: Listen, you don’t have the floor (sic) so respect us.

Sam George: No, I have the floor. No, you have asked me a question. I have the floor. You will let me answer the question. No, you won’t do that, Abena. You won’t do that today. Let me finish.

Osei-Asare: Minister, respectfully, this is our committee, and you don’t tell us what you want to do.

Sam George: But you’ve not brought me here to talk down on me as well. I listen to you go on, you must listen to me as well.

Osei-Asare: Minister, nobody’s doing that to you. No.

Osei-Asare: Please, when you come here, and we address issues, it is not that we want to take anybody down. Never. You and I, we go beyond this. It is not that we want to take anybody down, but minister, the situation is serious, and that is all the sentiments I’m trying to carry across.

Sam George: And that’s the point I’m making. We’ve given a policy direction in January. On the back of our policy direction, MTN is rolling out 800 new sites. Telecel is rolling out 350 new sites. Between those two companies, you see 1,150 new sites. However, that’s why I said to you that this is engineering and not sentiment. When you ask an MNO to roll out a new site, there are steps that have to be taken. First and foremost, you need to do the acquisition of the site. Then you need to make the requisition for the radio equipment and the cell site. Those are not things that are, for want of a better phrase, in a supermarket that you just go and buy. You place an order with an OEM.

The regulator, the NCA, is going through this process. Most of the MNOs are receiving their BTA devices between July and August. So yes, we have made the request. We have asked them to take the steps. They have taken the steps, but it takes time for the equipment to arrive in the country. When the equipment arrives, and they roll out the improvement, you will see the improvement in the network.

But we cannot sit here. After 10 years of failing to take action, someone is taking action, and then you say that you want to see it as quickly as possible”.

First batch of 300 Ghanaians to be evacuated from South Africa on May 21

0

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has announced plans to evacuate the first batch of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa on May 21, 2026.

In related news, Benjamin Quashie, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, has revealed that more than 15,000 Ghanaians have so far been registered in South Africa.

Benjamin Quashie detailed that the ongoing registration is to account for citizens amid growing concerns over xenophobic attacks in parts of South Africa.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, May 12, Benjamin Quashie stated, “We’ve registered close to 15,000. When I took over, what my predecessors indicated was that Ghanaians in South Africa were just a little above 5,000”.

“These are places where we have been told there are Ghanaians living in informal settlements, where communication becomes very difficult, and for that, they cannot go on the website or contact us through the WhatsApp numbers provided,” he added.

Gifty Oware’s letter directing ADB to transfer ₵31.5m into her company’s account submitted as evidence

0

A letter written by former National Service Scheme (NSS) Deputy Executive Director Gifty Oware-Mensah directing the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) to transfer funds to her private company has been admitted into evidence.

Reports suggest the document was identified in court on Monday by the Head of Commercial Banking at ADB, Gilbert Sebe-Yeboah, during his testimony before the court.

In court on Monday, 18 May 2026, Principal State Attorney Dufie Prempeh led the witness through the concluding part of his evidence-in-chief and tendered several documents in support of the prosecution’s case.

She disclosed that the said letter was referenced in paragraph 20 of the witness statement.

“Letter from NSS transfer of funds with respect to higher purchase signed by deputy executive director Gifty Oware-Mensah,” the witness identified.

Gifty Oware-Mensah’s lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, objected to the admission of the letter, arguing that it was illegible saying, “The document the witness intends to tender is not legible, undated, not the original copy and, in fact, the supposed letterhead which he claims was authored by the accused person is so faint that it is not readable”.

However, Presiding Judge, Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, acknowledged concerns over the quality of the document but admitted it into evidence.

The Judge stated, “I have perused the said document, and I do agree with counsel for the accused person that the writings on the said letter appear to be very faint”.

“Since it is not all that legible, one cannot tell whether or not the original copy has a date, which burden would have been on the author of that document.”

“In the circumstances, this letter would be admitted subject to the prosecution providing a clear copy to the court,” Justice Kocuvie-Tay ruled.

Out of over 53,000 applicants, 6,200 nurses and midwives recruited – Health Ministry reveals

0

The Health Ministry has announced that out of 53,000 applicants, only 6,200 nurses and midwives have been recruited.

In a news card shared by GHOne TV, the Ministry of Health stated, “Out of over 53,000 applicants, 6,200 nurses and midwives have successfully been recruited against the 6,500 target”.

At a press conference in Accra, the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Health, Frederick Mensah-Acheampong, revealed the Ministry of Health has successfully recruited 6,245 nurses and midwives out of 6,500 available slots under a nationwide recruitment.

According to Frederick Mensah-Acheampong, the recruitment process was highly competitive given the large pool of qualified applicants.

He further detailed that the process also recorded the recruitment of 771 out of 900 allied health professionals, 235 out of 250 pharmacy professionals, and 300 physician assistants.

Mr Mensah-Acheampong stated, “We have received financial clearance to recruit about 8,000 health professionals from the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry acknowledges the anxiety and interest these recruitment exercises have generated, particularly given the backlog of about 105,000 unemployed health professionals, some of whom have been awaiting recruitment since 2018 and 2019”.

He further disclosed that approximately 87 nursing slots remain unfilled in the Northern districts, adding that a mop-up exercise will be conducted in the coming weeks to absorb eligible applicants.

In related news, Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that there are over 100,000 unemployed health professionals across Ghana.

According to the Health Minister, when the NDC took over power, there were about 74,000 unemployed health professionals, but that number had risen to 100,000 at the end of 2025.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh further admitted that the government cannot absorb all the 100,000 health professionals, although there are some spaces to be filled, attributing the problem to Ghana’s fiscal space.

Speaking in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, April 22, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated, “When we took over, initially, it was around 74,000 people, but around the end of 2025, we were around 100,000 health professionals who had been trained and were at home.

“We cannot absorb all the 100,000 people in our health system to get spaces, but of course, there are spaces that have also not been filled. The problem has to do with fiscal space. In every budget, we will only employ what we can pay.”

It will be recalled that Mintah Akandoh had earlier revealed that Ghana would need about GHS6 billion to recruit all 74,000 unemployed health professionals currently at home.

The health minister highlighted that his ministry is working to clear backlog by collaborating with the Finance Ministry.

Speaking in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, October 15, the Minister explained, “We will need not less than GHS6 billion to be able to absorb all the 74,000 health professionals at home at the moment”.

Mintah Akandoh further clarified that the brouhaha surrounding the 13,000 newly recruited nurses and midwives’ clearance.

The health minister once again blamed the former Akufo-Addo administration for issuing clearance without financial backing.

He stated, “The reality is that in 2024, the government started to recruit nurses and midwives. So the summary is that they recruited about 13,500 nurses and midwives and issued clearance”.

“Once you issue clearance, you must make financial provision. Clearance is not just a paper… you issue clearance when indeed you can pay when you recruit the people.”

“The clearance expired on 31st December 2024. What it means is that before the expiration… you must necessarily have all these 13,500 people on the payroll. As at the end of 31st December 2024, not a single one of the 13,500 people were on the payroll,” he added.
