“Our MP, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is deceitful” – Obengkrom Chief fumes

Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng, the Obengkrom Chief in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency of the Central Region, has launched a scathing attack on the Member of Parliament for the area, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

According to the Obengkrom Chief, Felix Kwakye Ofosu is deceitful.

Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng accused the member of parliament of neglecting his constituents after winning political office.

Speaking to members of the Minority delegation and residents of Obengkrom near Asuansi, Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng expressed frustration, saying, “Our MP, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is also deceitful. Before he became an MP, we used to communicate frequently, but now when I send him messages, he does not even respond”.

Obengkrom Chief also criticised President John Mahama over his reduction in cocoa prices.

According to Obengkrom Chief, President John Mahama is “a cheat” who has failed to fulfil his promises to cocoa farmers.

He further declared that President John Mahama should step down for someone else to take over if he cannot rule the country.

He added, “For us, the farmers, we have realised that President John Dramani Mahama is a cheat. We have seen that he is someone who does not fulfil his promises”.

“At this point, if he cannot continue ruling the country properly, then he should step down for someone else to take over,” he added.

In other news, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Government Communications Minister, has said LGBTQ+ issues are not a priority for Ghanaians, who wake up each day focused on jobs, salaries and making ends meet.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, the LGBTQ+ subject does not rank high among the priorities of ‘ordinary’ Ghanaian citizens.

Speaking on JoyNews “The Pulse” today, Kwakye Ofosu called the debate “a waste of time” and stated there is “nothing to apologise for” regarding the President’s position on the matter.

Kwakye Ofosu stated, “This is not a major issue. It’s another waste of time. You know, NPP, they specialise in wasting the time of everybody”.

“When Ghanaians wake up in the morning, their focus is on how to get to work, how to earn a salary, and how to make ends meet. Is that bill the number one priority of every Ghanaian? It is not. It has no meaning,” he argued.

“The things that matter the most are the issues that affect the lives of Ghanaians,” he said.

“Which president, serving or seeking to become president, should make LGBTQ+ the most important issue? Is it not about the welfare of the ordinary people?” he questioned.

“There is nothing to apologise for,” he concluded.

List of non-communicable diseases supported by MahamaCares

Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, has revealed some non-communicable diseases supported by the fund.

The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who shared an update on the administrator media briefing on X, revealed that additional disease conditions will be included in the benefits package by the end of the year.

He listed, “Breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, and childhood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, soft tissue sarcomas,

retinoblastoma, and nephroblastoma”.

In his post, Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “Here are the non-communicable diseases whose treatment is currently supported by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares).

Breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, and childhood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, soft tissue sarcomas,

retinoblastoma, and nephroblastoma.

Additional disease conditions will be included in the benefits package by the end of the year”.

Also, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku has stated that the MahhamaCares will not support patients seeking medical treatment outside Ghana.

 She revealed that the Mahama Cares fund has recently come under increasing pressure, with persons appealing for funding to seek treatment abroad.

Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku disclosed that the governing law that established the Fund restricts its mandate to supporting free treatment for non-communicable diseases in Ghana.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, May 11, she said, “There is something that we keep getting. Many people want funding to go abroad. Let me announce here, and now, we do not support any funding out of the borders of this country.

“That money that we spend for one patient to go to India for treatment, we can use that for about 20 patients in the country. Anything beyond the borders as stipulated in the Act is beyond us,” she said.

Meanwhile, for one to benefit from support under the Trust Fund, an applicant must meet three basic eligibility requirements.

The applicant must be a Ghanaian citizen, an active NHIS card bearer, and must have a medical condition that falls within the approved conditions supported under the Fund.

In 2025, John Dramani Mahama officially launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as The MahamaCares.

The landmark initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.

The Fund seeks to cover the cost of care and medication for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) not currently included under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Police Inspector fingered in the alleged MoMo robbery interdicted and remanded

A Police Inspector identified as Bright Appiah Danquah has been arrested in Kumasi in connection with an alleged robbery attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Kumasi.

Reports suggest the Police Inspector was arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of armed robbery attacks targeting mobile money vendors across Kumasi.

The Police Inspector’s cup became full when he allegedly left his mobile phone at one of the robbery scenes, a development that later became a key lead in ongoing police investigations.

According to reports, he later visited the police station to officially report the device as stolen, only for investigators to allegedly connect the phone and other evidence to several similar robbery incidents in Kumasi.

The Ghana Police, in a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday, May 11, said the suspect was arrested by the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following intelligence-led operations.

They also disclosed that a search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a Bruni Model 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and cash amounting to GHS 9,835.

The police statement added that the officer has since been interdicted as investigations continue into the case.

According to the police, the suspect was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Monday, May 11, 2026, and has been remanded into police custody.

The Police Inspector is expected to reappear in court on May 29, 2026.

In related news, Police Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie has been interdicted by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter.

According to the Police command, the Police inspector stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region is being investigated by DOVVSU.

The police statement disclosed that the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 9, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command read, “The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that an alleged defilement/incest case involving Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, currently stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region, is under active investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Agona District.

The complaint was lodged on 4th November, 2025, by one Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua/ER on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, alleging that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.

Following the report, the victim was referred for medical examination at a Government health facility to aid investigations.

On 20/02/2026, the Inspector reported himself at the Agona DOVVSU, where he was arrested and a statement on cautioned obtained from him. Suspect denied the allegations and was later released on enquiry bail to be reporting periodically.

The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave the way for further investigation.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments”.

Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng alleged, “Our MP, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is also deceitful. Before he became an MP, we used to communicate frequently, but now when I send him messages, he does not even respond”.

“Today, many cocoa farmers are suffering because of the reduction in cocoa prices. A lot of farmers are cutting down their cocoa farms and turning to palm plantations because they can no longer survive,” he lamented.

In related news, President John Dramani Mahama has said the recent International Cocoa price drop must be a wake-up call for Ghana.

According to John Mahama, almost 70 years after Ghana gained independence, the country is still exporting raw beans to the world.

President Mahama stated, “The recent incident with cocoa, with the prices plummeting, and you see all the videos of ‘Mahama wo de y3 ka’ of cocoa farmers protesting in the cocoa farms, is because for almost 70 years after we gained independence, we’re still exporting raw beans to the world”.

“I believe that what has happened in the international market should be a wake-up call for us, and that we must allocate more of our beans, and we’re taking the first step to doing that,” he indicated.

President Mahama added, “We’re changing the financing model. Before, we got the traders and others who buy the cocoa to advance the money for us to buy the cocoa from our farmers. Now, we say we’re going to raise the money ourselves and buy our own cocoa,” he stated.

“While we’re taking the money from the traders to buy the cocoa from our farmers, the collateral for the money they were advancing us was the cocoa beans. And so once you bought the cocoa beans, it was collateral for the financing they gave you.

“So, now if we raise our money, we buy our own cocoa. Our cocoa is not collateral to anybody, and so we can decide what to do with it, and we’re saying that we’re going to allocate the bulk of our cocoa to the local processors to process that cocoa before we export it,” he concluded.

You cannot declare health workers guilty in Charles Amissah’s death – GMA tells Akosa Committee

Prof. Ernest Yorke, the President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), has told the Akosa Committee investigating the death of Charles Amissah that they cannot declare health workers guilty.

According to the GMA president, the investigative committees are not judicial or quasi-judicial bodies and therefore do not have the mandate to pronounce individuals guilty.

Prof. Ernest Yorke also highlighted that the manner in which the Akosa Committee’s findings were presented has contributed to public reaction and debate around the case.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, May 11, Prof. Yorke argued, “For me, I probably wouldn’t have used that word, and the thing is, an investigative committee of that nature, it is not a judicial or quasi-judicial committee. So they cannot pronounce on the guilt or otherwise of persons involved.

“At best, they probably will say that there is reasonable belief to say that they committed some wrong, and if they indeed believe so, then the proper thing is what they’ve done to refer them to the appropriate body, which will now go into much more detail,” he said.

He further added, “I have served on the disciplinary committee of the medical and dental council for over 13 years, and they come with their lawyers. It is quasi-judicial, we take evidence, we take witness statements, we cross-examine, and even people appeal the decisions.

“So it is at the stage that when it is concluded finally that somebody can be pronounced as found guilty of a certain charge and therefore deserves the requisite sanctions,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has sanctioned seven medical staff members over their failure to attend to the late engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited.

The medical staff sanctioned include Anne-Marie Kudowor of the Police Hospital, Naomi Eyram Adotevi and Akosua B. Turkson of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Ida Druant, Genevieve Adjar, Joy Daisy Nelson, and Salamatu Alhassan Aidoo of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who are to face disciplinary action for breaching their professional duties in the care of Charles Amissah and for being untruthful to the Committee.

The committee, chaired by Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, presented its findings on May 6, 2026, detailing that, “Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor failed to exercise ethical and professional judgment prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at Police Hospital, leading to his death, and was untruthful to the committee.

“Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi also failed to exercise ethical and professional judgement prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, leading to his death later,” Professor Akosa remarked.

Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor has been recommended for referral to the Police Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) for disciplinary action over alleged misconduct.

They also referred Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the MDC for disciplinary action.

Also, Dr Ida Druant and Dr Genevieve Adjar of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been recommended for disciplinary action by their institution and the MDC for similar breaches.

Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa’s committee also further recommended sanctions against nursing staff, including  Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective institutions and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The committee, beyond individual accountability, outlined urgent systemic reforms.

3 dead, 20 injured in fatal accident on the Kumasi–Accra Highway

A tragic accident involving a Mitsubishi Outlander and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has left 3 people dead and 20 others sustaining injuries.

Reports suggest the tragic accident occurred at Odumasi-Ohene Nkwanta near the Rider Iron and Steel Company on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.

The information gathered suggests the accident involved the Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number DV G8180 and a Benz Sprinter with registration number GE6024-22.

Three deceased males were retrieved from the scene and handed over to the Police MTTD at Konongo by the emergency responders.

The 20 others who sustained injuries have been transported to Hope Care Hospital, Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital, and RIS Hospital for treatment.

In related news, four (4) traders have been confirmed dead following a devastating road accident at Anyinasin Junction on Wednesday, 6th May, 2026.

Reports suggest the devastating head-on collision at Anyinasin Junction on Wednesday, 6th May, 2026, involving a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration GE 1913-16, travelling from Asamankese to Bunso and a Man Diesel trailer with registration GS 236-12 en route from Kumasi to Accra.

Eyewitness account details that the trailer allegedly veered off its lane and collided head-on with the truck, forcing it into a nearby bush, which subsequently triggered a fierce fire that engulfed both vehicles.

According to reports, the four traders were burnt beyond recognition.

Also, a female victim rescued from the wreckage is receiving treatment at the Akim Asafo Health Centre.

Additionally, three occupants of the trailer reportedly escaped unhurt.

In addition, a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service on May confirmed the tragic news.

They disclosed that the Bunso Fire Station received a distress call at 5:49 am and arrived at the scene at 6:00 am, by which time the fire had fully developed. Firefighters led by ADO II Emmanuel Otam Annan immediately began firefighting operations.

The GNFS disclosed that four victims trapped in the Hyundai Mighty truck were burnt beyond recognition.

Part of the statement read, “Four (4) victims trapped in the wreckage were unfortunately burnt beyond recognition. One (1) female victim, who was rescued by bystanders prior to the arrival of firefighters, is currently on admission at the Akim Asafo Health Centre, while three (3) occupants of the Man Diesel trailer escaped unhurt before it burst into flames”.

The GNFS Firefighters later recovered the four charred bodies from the wreckage and handed them over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has reminded the Ghanaian public that the ban on the importation of Turkey tail, commonly known as “Chofi” in Ghana, is still in force.

According to the FDA, the ban instituted in 1999 due to turkey tail’s extremely high fat content associated with health risks, it is still available in many markets.

On Monday, May 11, 2025, the FDA issued a public notice highlighting that consumption of such products poses serious health risks, including obesity, high cholesterol, and heart-related diseases.

“Turkey tail, properly called ‘chofi’, and other poultry products with over 15% fat have been banned in Ghana since 1999 due to a serious health risk.

The FDA therefore advises the public to stay away from these products,” the Authority stated.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “The health workers have been seeing fried yam sellers at the roadside selling this alongside the fried yam, and we’ve been practising this for decades. Do you know many people they’ve had health issues based on this?”.

One X user also added, “Ironically, several other fast foods like fried rice, pizza, shawarma, burgers, etc., which have high sodium and trans fats and are sold in our markets, won’t be banned because of people’s economic interests.

Meanwhile, studies have linked these same foods with health conditions, including certain forms of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes”.

A netizen added, “We hear!   Chofi no good.  Chofi sweet pass all meat!”.

One X user added, “Oh chale I’m even eating one while reading this, with some hot Kenkey ooo … let me tell the Komi seller I don’t want it anymore so she should refund me”.

“How can people stay away when the thing is available in the market, so the simple thing to do is stop the importation of it”, a netizen added.

An X user added, “So can’t the FDA do something to prevent people from selling it to the general public? Since this thing was banned some years ago, how does it gets it way into the market? What proper sensitisation has the FDA done on it to the public”.

In other news, Roderick Kwabena Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has refuted social media claims that adding plastic to fry plantain chips does make them crispier.

According to the FDA Deputy CEO, the circulating claims on social media are false and misleading, adding that such claims are not just in Ghana.

He further disclosed that the FDA are carrying out nationwide market checks, adding that there has been no evidence that plastic is being used in frying plantain chips.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, March 11, Roderick Kwabena Daddey-Adjei stated, “What is going around is purporting that if you use plastic, the plastic melts and then coats the plantain, and therefore it becomes crisp.

That is wrong, and that is something we have already put out there on social media and on YouTube, where we emphasize that these are myths, in fact not only in Ghana. There are other places in Asia where such stories and some people who want to trend come up with such stories.

“We want to assure the public that so far the FDA hasn’t had such evidence and is still conducting the market surveillance. If you put such plastics in oil, the plastic is another type of chemistry, and the oil is edible, they don’t mix so people should not come up with such information,” he said.

Law School entrance exams no longer exist – Majority Chief Whip declares

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, has said the entrance examinations for admission into law schools in Ghana no longer exist under the country’s new legal education reforms.

According to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the changes take instant effect and will apply across all accredited law schools in the country.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Monday, May 11, the Majority Chief Whip stated, “The entrance exams, as we know, no longer exist effective immediately,” he said.

The Majority Chief Whip detailed that if the Ghana School of Law decides to maintain entrance examinations after accreditation, such a move would still require approval from the Council for Legal Education and Training.

According to him, admission standards and processes will now be standardised across all accredited law schools, which will ensure fairness and consistency.

“One school cannot do another thing from the other,” he stated.

Also, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, in a post on X, has shared his delight saying, “It gives me the greatest pleasure to inform you that, just now, I joined the Clerk, the AG, the Chief of Staff, the Finance Minister, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Hon. Marietta Brew to witness his H.E John Dramani Mahama, give his assent to the new Legal Education Act, 2026.

This watershed legislation widens the opportunity for many to have access to professional legal education in Ghana, unlike before.

What’s critical to note is that standards have been tightened under this new law, ensuring that quality is not sacrificed.

President Mahama, signing the bill into law on Monday, stated, “Regulate legal education and ensure the highest standards in terms of legal education, but also to open up a space for more opportunities for legal education in Ghana,” he said.

“This particular act has been one that many aspiring lawyers have been looking up to. So it’ll be fine.”

Since 1958, the Ghana School of Law has been the sole institution authorised to run the professional law course required for admission to the Ghana Bar.

With the new legislation, universities that meet accreditation requirements will now be eligible to run professional legal training programmes.

The reform is expected to ease admission pressure, expand opportunities for law graduates, and improve training quality, while ensuring strict regulation and consistent standards are maintained across all institutions through strengthened oversight nationwide.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, detailed that with the passage of the bill, the NDC has fulfilled its commitment to promoting equity, fairness, and improved access to legal education in Ghana.

He stated, “As has been typical of the NDC, promises made are delivered. We promised law students that if they vote for us, we will carry out reforms that will ensure equity, fairness and access to legal education”.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, however, took a swipe at the NDC government.

Afenyo-Markin accuse the NDC government of failing to deliver on some of its key campaign promises.

The minority leader highlighted that the reform of legal education is important, but the government must also demonstrate commitment to other critical pledges made to Ghanaians.

Implementation of legal education reforms will begin without delay – AG announces

Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has announced the government will immediately begin implementing Ghana’s new legal education reforms.

The Attorney General made this known after President John Mahama assented to the Legal Education Bill 2026.

According to Dominic Ayine, the first major step would be the dissolution of the General Legal Council to establish a new Council for Legal Education and Training to oversee legal education.

Speaking at a post-signing press conference on Tuesday, Dominic Ayine disclosed, “Implementation will begin without delay”.

“This is a much-anticipated reform law that is supposed to radically reform legal education to create equality of opportunity for persons aspiring to be lawyers in this country,” he stated.

The reform is expected to ease admission pressure, expand opportunities for law graduates, and improve training quality, while ensuring strict regulation and consistent standards are maintained across all institutions through strengthened oversight nationwide.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, detailed that with the passage of the bill, the NDC has fulfilled its commitment to promoting equity, fairness, and improved access to legal education in Ghana.

He stated, “As has been typical of the NDC, promises made are delivered. We promised law students that if they vote for us, we will carry out reforms that will ensure equity, fairness and access to legal education”.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, however, took a swipe at the NDC government.

Afenyo-Markin accuse the NDC government of failing to deliver on some of its key campaign promises.

The minority leader highlighted that the reform of legal education is important, but the government must also demonstrate commitment to other critical pledges made to Ghanaians.

This watershed legislation widens the opportunity for many to have access to professional legal education in Ghana, unlike before.

Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, has stated that the Fund will not support patients seeking medical treatment outside Ghana.

 She revealed that the Mahama Cares fund has recently come under increasing pressure, with persons appealing for funding to seek treatment abroad.

Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku disclosed that the governing law that established the Fund restricts its mandate to supporting free treatment for non-communicable diseases in Ghana.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, May 11, she said, “There is something that we keep getting. Many people want funding to go abroad. Let me announce here, and now, we do not support any funding out of the borders of this country.

“That money that we spend for one patient to go to India for treatment, we can use that for about 20 patients in the country. Anything beyond the borders as stipulated in the Act is beyond us,” she said.

Also, for one to benefit from support under the Trust Fund, an applicant must meet three basic eligibility requirements.

The applicant must be a Ghanaian citizen, an active NHIS card bearer, and must have a medical condition that falls within the approved conditions supported under the Fund.

Sharing the information on X, the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye, wrote, “Many have voiced concern about how to access support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares).

The Administrator of the Fund provides the following direction on how to access support.

To benefit from support under the Trust Fund, an applicant must meet three basic

eligibility requirements.

The applicant must be a Ghanaian citizen, an active

NHIS card bearer, and must have a medical condition that falls within the

approved conditions supported under the Fund.

It is important to clarify that patients CANNOT WALK DIRECTLY  into the Secretariat to request support.

The process is digital and dignified.

Applications are initiated by specialist clinicians at our enlisted hospitals via a dedicated digital platform.

The Patient Support Programme will initially be delivered through twenty-nine enlisted hospitals strategically distributed across the country to ensure equitable access for all Ghanaians.

He further went on to list some 29 hospitals across the country that will offer the MahamaCares Patient Support Programme.

It will be recalled that in 2025, John Dramani Mahama officially launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as The MahamaCares.

The landmark initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.

The Fund seeks to cover the cost of care and medication for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) not currently included under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The controversy surrounding whether lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul Hanan-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni were at the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during the period of their arrest and detention, has been put to bed by the Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Raymond Archer.

The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai speaking to media on Thursday, 7th May, 2026, had claimed that contrary to the allegation by the former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the lawyers for Hanan and his wife were not denied access to their clients during the period of their arrest and detention by EOCO as they failed to show up at EOCO to attend to their client but rather resorted to media interviews.

However, in a sharp contradiction in a radio interview on an Accra-based radio station, Joy FM on their popular programme, Newsfile, Mr. Raymond Archer admitted that the lawyers from Dame & Partners, solicitors for Hanan Abdul Wahab and wife, were at the offices of EOCO from the time the couple were arrested. However, he (Raymond Archer) could not attend to them since he was engaged with interrogation of other suspects. Mr. Archer indicated that he personally undertakes all the interrogations and therefore, could not have time to attend to Hanan, stressing that he left the office at 1 am on the first day of Hanan’s detention. He claimed that if the lawyers had had time he would have attended to them on the first day. It begs the question whether Raymond Archer wanted the lawyers to wait until after 1 am on the first day before finding time to attend to them.

Narrating the sequence of events, Raymond Archer claimed that Hanan and wife were taken into EOCO custody on Tuesday, 5th May, 2026. Immediately, he became sick after being fed with meat pie and a malt drink. Hanan was taken to the hospital and according to Raymond Archer, he came back late from the hospital. When Hanan returned from the hospital, they (EOCO officers with Raymond) were in the middle of interrogation and could not attend to him. According to Raymond Archer, on that day, he finished work and left the office around 1 am. That is why he could not attend to Hanan. He further stated that if the lawyers of Hanan had been around by the time he finished work, he would have attended to them.

On the second day too, according to the EOCO Executive Director, Hanan’s lawyers came to EOCO and asked to see him because he is the one who personally undertakes all interrogations. When the lawyers came, again he was engaged in a number of interrogations – the Kofi Jumah, PDS and COCOBOD cases.

The lawyers from Dame & Partners came and met the PDS crew. He could not attend to them because he, Raymond had to attend to Minkah Premo first. He (Raymond Archer) therefore wondered whether the lawyers from Dame & Partners wanted him to jump the process for Minkah Premo. The lawyers left later in the day after waiting until about 5 pm. When he finished with Minkah Premo, he asked to see the lawyers. He was told they had left. He asked to call them back. When the lawyers were not coming back, he granted Hanan and wife bail around 7 pm.

The following ensued in the interview between the host of the programme, Samson Ladi Anyeni and Mr. Raymond Archer.

Samson: On Tuesday, the (Hanan and wife) were discharged by the court and you arrested them on the court premises. The lawyers followed them to EOCO. When they followed them to EOCO, they were not given access. What you are saying is that they had asked to see you because they had been asked to see you, but they could not see you because you were busy doing multiple things. As you stated, Hanan is served some malt drink and meat pie. He complains and starts vomiting. You took him to the hospital, and he returned in the evening. Is that correct?

Raymond: When a suspect says he is sick, there is nothing I can do. I am not a doctor.

Samson: What time did Hanan return to EOCO from the hospital?

A: I have to check. Everything is logged. When you are a lawyer and you are waiting for your client, you do not know how many other lawyers are also waiting? If they (the lawyers for Hanan) had waited until I close, they would have seen them.

Samson: The lawyers placed a number of phone calls to you, according to them. Is that correct?

Raymond: I have not seen their calls.

Samson: I have seen a call log that shows that they called you. That shows that there were at least 2 calls one at 13.04 pm and another at 18.02 pm.

Raymond:   So that is the denial you are talking about? I do not know who is calling.

Samson: I suspect you had Godfred Dame’s phone number.

Raymond: Now you are asking whether I had saved his phone number.

Samson: So on Wednesday, the following day, they came again and they even opted to use the normal visiting hours open to the public to see their client. They were denied that one too.

Raymond: So, that is what I am telling you. We were busy with Mr. Minkah Premo and I do not know whether they expected us to take them over and above Mr. Minkah Premo.

Samson: So, the question that comes up is, if you could release a client at a time that his lawyers were unavailable on the second day, how could you not release him on the first day?

Raymond: If you want to release a person, it is not as if you release him on the telephone…

Samson: This is Hanan who could not be released on the first day because he was sick, how could you not release his wife who was not sick?

Raymond: You see now what they are doing? Are they abandoning the story about Hanan and focusing on his wife?

Samson: No, I am the one asking questions about Hanan’s wife because she was in custody with him…

Samson: These are lawyers who say they were at your office for total of 30 hours, and you still say they were not available?

Raymond: Does the 30 hours include the time Hanan was at the hospital?

Samson: You have not answered my question which is that they were already on bail, you could have let them go on bail on the old bail terms?

Raymond: Samson, they were under arrest. We could have held them for 48 hours. We let them go before that time. What is the fuss about that? You yourself said that the first case was withdrawn, we rearrested them. We could have held them for 48 hours. We were rather magnanimous in staying until late in the night and ensuring that these people would go home. The only problem I have is that when they came, they wanted everything to stop and for everybody to listen to Hanan because there is a red carpet that should be rolled for the former Attorney-general. That kind of mindset I will not tolerate.

Adwoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, commonly known as MahamaCares, has disclosed a list of 27 hospitals nationwide, where patients can access support.

She disclosed that the hospitals were strategically selected to ensure equitable access to specialised healthcare services for Ghanaians nationwide.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency on Monday, 11 May, Adwoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku stated, “The Patient Support Programme will initially be delivered through twenty-nine enlisted hospitals strategically distributed across the country to ensure equitable access for all Ghanaians”.

Some of the selected facilities include the Korle Bu, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Sunyani Teaching Hospital, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre, among others.

Adwoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku revealed that the Trust Fund has developed a digital platform to help in patient registration, clinical auditing, and claims processing.

She further disclosed that trained patient navigators have been deployed to support patients and their families through the process.

Ghanaian pastor in Canada sentenced for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl

A Ghanaian pastor abroad has been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment in Canada after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

The Ghanaian Pastor has been identified as Emmanuel Yeboah.

Reports suggest Emmanuel Yeboah, a 38-year-old Ontario resident, was found guilty of sexual assault, sexual interference and assault.

According to the information gathered, the pastor used his position as a family friend to assault the victim while driving her to and from a piano lesson.

The case was presided over by Justice Robert Gattrell.

The Judge cited evidence of grooming behaviour including electronic gifts, ice cream treats and special attention offered to the victim by the Ghanaian Pastor.

Reports suggest that the Ghanaian Pastor who holds permanent residency is now expected to face a possible deportation.

The news shared by SIKAOFFICIAL read, “A self-styled Ghanaian pastor Emmanuel Yeboah has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in Canada after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

The 38-year-old Ontario resident was found guilty of sexual assault, sexual interference and assault after the court heard he abused his position as a family friend to assault the victim while driving her to and from a piano lesson.

The presiding judge, Justice Robert Gattrell, cited evidence of grooming behaviour, including electronic gifts, ice cream treats and special attention offered to the victim by Mr Emmanuel Yeboah.

The convict who currently holds permanent residency in the country is also expected to face immigration consequences and possible deportation following his conviction”.

Netizens reacting to the news stated, “Ghanaian men and sexual assault cases abroad are 5&6. Can’t they control themselves?”.

One X user added, “God has helped you to get out of this hot ass country and now look at what you did with the opportunity. Such a shame”.

A netizen noted, “In case you didn’t know, touching someone inappropriately constitutes sexual assault. You better keep your hands to yourself when interacting, even with an adult”.

“They take their shameful behaviours abroad but realise that there is no getting away with that behaviour and no police to bribe”, one X user added.

An X user added, “That’s a disturbing abuse of trust. Using a position as a family friend and the access that comes with it to groom and assault a 13-year-old is exactly why these cases hit so hard – it violates both the kid’s safety and the family’s trust”.

One last netizen added, “Good that the court recognised the grooming pattern with the gifts, treats, and special attention. Those details matter in distinguishing manipulation from coincidence”.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communication, has disclosed that the Controller and Accountant-General has deducted and transferred a total of GHS 6.1 million from President John Mahama’s salary donation and appointee contributions to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares).

In a post shared on X, Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote, “At the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) last year, President Mahama pledged to donate six months of his salary to the Fund.

Subsequently, he encouraged his appointees to donate one month’s salary each to the Fund.

He then ordered appointees who defaulted on his first deadline for Asset declaration to forfeit three months’ salary to be donated to the Fund.

The Controller and Accountant- General has formally notified the Government that he has deducted and transferred a total of GHS 6.1 million to the Fund pursuant to the President’s directive.

He is currently making arrangements to transfer the final tranche, which will cover the Asset declaration defaulters”.

“I’ve stopped working for almost one and a half years now” – Mother of slain KNUST student Joana

The mother of the final slain Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Joana Yabani, has revealed she has stopped working for almost one and a half years now, following the death of her daughter. 

According to Joana Deladem Yabani’s mother, her daughter played a significant role in promoting their company whenever she was on vacation.

Speaking in an interview shared on X, Joana Deladem Yabani’s mother stated, “When she comes home, she helps promote our company. We were even planning to make her the face of the company because she would market the products, and people genuinely liked her”.

“So, I’ve stopped working for almost one and a half years now since the incident happened. Whenever we went out, clients would ask, ‘Where is Joana?’ Some of them didn’t even know she was the one who died on the KNUST campus,” she recounted.

“They would ask, ‘Where is my friend?’ and I would break down in tears. So, I stopped going out and stopped working for some time. It’s only now that we are beginning to revive the company again because we were all devastated,” she added.

She added, “I don’t think she has been treated fairly at all. She was such a good person. It pains me that people who didn’t know her wrote all those things about her”.

“I’m not using ‘she was’; she is still a good person. Wherever I go, people who knew her still say, ‘That’s your daughter,’” she added.

In that same interview, Joana Deladem Yabani’s mother revealed her daughter fell in love with a young man with the heart of a beast. 

She lamented, “There’s a picture flying about that they’ve killed somebody, a lady at KNUST. The picture looks like your daughter. She only fell in love with a young man with the heart of a beast”.

“27th February will be a date I’ll never forget in my life until I return to my maker,” she said.

She added, “The camera has been able to pick whoever did it. His act has been captured. But my daughter is gone forever. I read something somewhere that he sent to my daughter. He said the mirror that once told him, ‘You are beautiful,’ has now become a deadly weapon in the hands of the same person. I was like, ‘Wow.’”

“We want to thank this school. At least they had cameras that could pick out evildoers like Daniel Tuffuor. They only have to be fair and just. Otherwise, my daughter’s blood will speak, and it will shock people. This is a spiritual matter.”

It will be recalled that Daniel Tuffuor is standing trial for murdering his girlfriend, a 21-year-old final-year student, Joana Yabani. 

The Police investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship.

The accused Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s lifeless body was discovered on campus earlier that morning.

The university’s security service, upon being alerted to the incident, promptly reported it to the police. Also, CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, alleged to be Tuffuor, strangling Joana to death following an altercation.

Meanwhile, the sisters of Joana Yabani have appealed for an expedited legal process.

Joana Yabani’s family are calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling the case, and all relevant authorities to expedite the legal process and deliver justice without further delay.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Monday, 11 May, Kwadwo Poku stated, “The bit that baffles me is that up to today, the police have not been able to arrest the hit-and-run driver. That is strange”.

“With all the cameras we have invested in around the country, the police should bow their heads in shame, and nobody is talking about it. I think that is a very, very big problem,” he stated.

Kwadwo Poku added, “In today’s Accra, it’s not possible. Those Huawei cameras, the white poles—they are at every junction, every corner of Accra. I challenge the police on this platform; it is not possible that somebody will do a hit-and-run in Accra and the police are not able to track who that person is,” he said.

“That means that infrastructure is really not worth investing in,” he noted.

“We need a report from the police. I am pleading with the IGP; let’s get a response on this. I think closure will be important for the family,” he said.

Meanwhile, the committee set up to investigate the death of Charles Amissah has sanctioned seven medical staff members over their failure to attend to the late engineer working at Promasidor Ghana Limited.

The medical staff sanctioned include Anne-Marie Kudowor of the Police Hospital, Naomi Eyram Adotevi and Akosua B. Turkson of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Ida Druant, Genevieve Adjar, Joy Daisy Nelson, and Salamatu Alhassan Aidoo of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who are to face disciplinary action for breaching their professional duties in the care of Charles Amissah and for being untruthful to the Committee.

The committee, chaired by Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, presented its findings on May 6, 2026, detailing that, “Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor failed to exercise ethical and professional judgment prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at Police Hospital, leading to his death, and was untruthful to the committee.

“Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi also failed to exercise ethical and professional judgement prudently by not attending to Charles Amissah, who was in a life-threatening condition at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, leading to his death later,” Professor Akosa remarked.

Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor has been recommended for referral to the Police Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) for disciplinary action over alleged misconduct.

They also referred Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the MDC for disciplinary action.

Also, Dr Ida Druant and Dr Genevieve Adjar of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been recommended for disciplinary action by their institution and the MDC for similar breaches.

Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa’s committee also further recommended sanctions against nursing staff, including  Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective institutions and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The committee, beyond individual accountability, outlined urgent systemic reforms.

According to Appiah Stadium, poverty is now distant from him because of Ibrahim Mahama, adding that his life has improved considerably due to the support and influence of the renowned entrepreneur.

Speaking in a viral video shared on X, Appiah Stadium told Ibrahim Mahama, “God richly bless you, I like you so much. You are a good man. What is hard and difficult to do is what you have done. Ibrahim Mahama, God bless you.

“I was the head of security, but because of you, poverty is far from me. God bless you, Ibrahim Mahama. I love you”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “The only thing that can make anAshanti bow to the Northerner isn’t just power but Money power”.

An X user added, “How can I meet this man? I want fanfool for him too. Dude gets a lot of connections”.

In related news, Appiah Stadium has apologised to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over insulting remarks he made during a tirade against the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye.

According to Appiah Stadium, President Mahama called him and scolded him; he wasn’t happy with what I said against Akufo-Addo. 

Appiah Stadium added that his decision to apologise follows a period of reflection and remorse over the comments, and he realised that what he said was wrong.

Speaking in another self-recorded video, Appiah Stadium stated, “Mahama called and scolded me. He said that he watched my video yesterday and that he wasn’t happy with what I said against Akufo-Addo because no follower of his should utter the words I did.

“Daddy, I myself know and have realised that the things I said because of Asenso-Boakye were not proper. Because you are a father for all, and I have also realised that the words I used were wrong, I have to retract what I said and record this video for people to see that your (Mahama’s) followers have good training,” he said.

“JM, I don’t want anything to taint your good works, and so I want to apologise to every Ghanaian that what Asenso-Boakye said, which created the impression that President Mahama does not want the progress of Asanteman, is what angered me to speak against the former head of state. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo supporters and all Ghanaians, forgive me for what I have said,” he added.

Appiah Stadium’s apology stems from a self-Recorded audio, which captured him using unprintable words against Bantama MP Asenso Boakye and former President Nana Akufo-Addo. After Asenso Boakye stated that Akufo-Addo performed better in governance than President Mahama, prompting an angry phone call.

President John Dramani Mahama has signed the Legal Education Reform Bill (2025) into law, following the Parliament of Ghana’s official passage of the bill.

John Mahama’s signing the bill ends the Ghana School of Law’s 66-year monopoly, opening the door for more accredited universities to offer professional law programmes.

President Mahama, signing the bill into law on Monday, stated, “Regulate legal education and ensure the highest standards in terms of legal education, but also to open up a space for more opportunities for legal education in Ghana,” he said.

“This particular act has been one that many aspiring lawyers have been looking up to. So it’ll be fine.”

Since 1958, the Ghana School of Law has been the sole institution authorised to run the professional law course required for admission to the Ghana Bar.

With the new legislation, universities that meet accreditation requirements will now be eligible to run professional legal training programmes.

The reform is expected to ease admission pressure, expand opportunities for law graduates, and improve training quality, while ensuring strict regulation and consistent standards are maintained across all institutions through strengthened oversight nationwide.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, detailed that with the passage of the bill, the NDC has fulfilled its commitment to promoting equity, fairness, and improved access to legal education in Ghana.

He stated, “As has been typical of the NDC, promises made are delivered. We promised law students that if they vote for us, we will carry out reforms that will ensure equity, fairness and access to legal education”.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, however, took a swipe at the NDC government.

Afenyo-Markin accuse the NDC government of failing to deliver on some of its key campaign promises.

The minority leader highlighted that the reform of legal education is important, but the government must also demonstrate commitment to other critical pledges made to Ghanaians.

Also, in a post shared by X, the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, detailed that he has been working on this for nearly 10 years, noting that when he began, naysayers said it wasn’t possible.

He wrote, “Breaking News:

1. Parliament of Ghana has just passed the groundbreaking LEGAL EDUCATION REFORM BILL, 2026.

2. This is a product of nearly 10 years of persistent and consistent advocacy on my part, which my Party bought into and made it a major campaign promise.

3. When I began, the naysayers said it wasn’t possible.

4. The Reform is pervasive. The Bar, too has been reformed such that we no longer have a single group of professional lawyers.

5. Today, we have the GHANA LAW SOCIETY with a huge membership at the Bar.

Bridging Tradition and Science: Young Ghanaian intellectuals pioneer a groundbreaking treatment to make medicine more affordable in rural Ghana

Access to basic healthcare across many rural communities in Ghana remains a daily struggle, and for two young medical doctors, the urge to bridge the gap became a shared responsibility.

The challenges were not mere statistics but lived realities that inspired the groundbreaking medicinal innovation that is now gaining nationwide attention. Bora marks a defining moment in time where traditional medicine is backed by scientific evidence.

The journey began not in laboratories, but in underserved communities of rural Ghana where trust for orthodox medicine was shaken by insurmountable traditional beliefs and financial constraints. Working through Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compounds and outreach programs, the doctors encountered patients who, despite receiving prescriptions often left the prescriptions unused—tucked under pillows due to skepticism, misinformation and to a large extent lack of affordability.

Facing this stark reality, these doctors adopted an ethnographic approach, immersing themselves in the life and beliefs of the people they served, and what they discovered was a deep-rooted reliance on traditional remedies as well as a growing need for healthcare solutions that were both economically feasible and culturally acceptable. An experience that marked the foundation of a new path—one that would merge scientific rigor with traditional confidence.

Match Made by The gods

The talented young doctors are the founders of the African Rural Doctors Association, an initiative that gives back to underserved communities with focus on maternal and child health. A rigorous journey focused on understanding the minds and medicinal challenges of the rural communities they served. After numerous consultations and discussions, they joined forces with another group of talented young men emerging on Ghana’s herbal pharmaceutical scene (UHARA Pharmaceutical Company Ltd), and with a great team spirit, they put together a conglomerate of ideas that set forth research into an age-old tested Ghanaian traditional formulation passed down generations by ancestral folklore apprenticeship in plant-based medicine. 

The aim was to understand the exact constituents and active ingredients of the formulation in order to develop measurable, reproducible as well as appropriate proportions of each active ingredient to yield dose calculation towards a desired therapeutic effect. Further studies were to be considered for drug safety via metabolism, pharmacokinetics as well as pharmacodynamics with target organs for excretion, paying attention to drug toxicity, cytochrome enzyme interactions in relation to other chemical compounds, adverse drug reactions and side effects. 

From Tradition to Laboratory

A team of six young and intelligent comrades embarked on a mission to scientifically validate a Ghanaian heritage of herbal medicine that had been used informally for decades. Their goal was not to replace orthodox medicine, but to make a formal statement that compliments it as an alternative —especially in areas it struggled to reach.

Samples of their formulation were submitted to The Centre for Plant Medicine Research in Mampong Ekuapem, where laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of beneficial phytochemicals such as saponins, triterpenes, flavonoids, and phytosterols. Further testing declared the formulation safe, non-toxic, and free from significant microbial contamination.

A Synergy of Three Powerful Plant-based Molecules

The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikplim Akurugu, has gone on her knees in a heartfelt appeal to the Roads Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, to urgently fix the road leading to the Ga East Municipal Hospital.

In a viral video shared on TikTok, the NDC MP,  Elikplim Akurugu, made a passionate appeal during her visit to the hospital, calling on the Road Minister and the contractor in charge of the roads leading to the Ga East Municipal Hospital to urgently fix the deplorable roads.

She further stressed the daily struggles that pregnant women, mothers, patients, and health workers endure on the road.

Speaking in the viral video, Elikplim Akurugu fell on her knees and pleaded saying, “We beg you. It can be anybody. It can be me in an emergency. It can be my sister here. Please, we beg you in the name of God”.

“When there is an emergency, before some patients get to the hospital, they are almost dead. The road is just deplorable. Please come to our aid,” she said.

She further added, “This is not political. It is about humanity. You never know who may need emergency care on this road one day”.

“It’s no longer a pothole; it’s now a manhole,” she remarked.

Some Ghanaians reacting to her plea stated, “As a member of parliament, not an ordinary person, instead of using the powers you have to talk to the assembly in your constituency, which also has a department of federal roads, there ahhh humm”, a Tiktoker added.

One more netizen wrote, “The Kwabenya road from Atomic down to Abuom junction is extremely bad to the Abuom top. The road is extremely bad”.

In related news,  the Minister for Roads and Highways has also issued a two-month ultimatum to the contractor of the Wenchi–Sawla road, Maripoma Enterprise Limited.

According to the Roads Minister, Maripoma Enterprise Limited must deliver at least 20% progress on the Wenchi–Sawla Lot 7 road project or face contract termination.

Kwame Governs Agbodza made this known after inspecting the project and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance.

The Roads Minister stated, “It’s either you do the 20%, or we terminate. You are not the first person we are telling,” Mr Agbodza said during the inspection.

“We went to the Western North. You didn’t even turn up on the site. You did not even turn up on the site when you took mobilisation on that one as well. In fact, you didn’t even have a site camp,” he said.

“You are a big company, but your bigness is not showing in the actual delivery of your projects,” he said. “We need to say this in the afternoon for everybody to hear. You must change the way you operate your things. At the moment, it’s not helpful to you and to the country.”

He further added, “You are sitting on the job. Well, we have said what we have to say. You have two months to do 20 per cent, or we are not even coming to talk to you. We’ll terminate, and you can go to court”.

“Go and see the condition in which the people are in that section of the road. Why? It’s not right,” he said.

“We should be celebrating policy like the Big Push. It was built around the Ghanaian contractor, and it was deliberate,” he added.

The Road Minister further lamented that the delays are exposing the government to public criticism on social media, saying, “Why should the President suffer abuse on this corridor because he’s giving you work, and you are not doing the work?” he said. “Do you see what they are saying on social media? TikTok? What wrong have we done?”

“I don’t know what killed President Mills, after 14 years” – Koku Anyidoho

Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that after 14 years, he still does not know what killed former President John Evans Atta Mills.

According to Koku Anyidoho, he does not know the precise medical cause of President Mills’ death, as he never saw the autopsy report.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Anyidoho stated, “Even the autopsy reports, I have not seen them. I don’t know”.

When pressed by the host on whether he now knew what caused the former President’s death, Anyidoho responded, “If you ask me today, after 14 years, what exactly killed the President, I don’t know. I’ve never known because I’ve not seen any autopsy report.”

In related news, a video has surfaced of President John Dramani Mahama narrating how he received the news of the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

In the video, which has resurfaced on X, President Mahama narrated the emotional moment he learned about the passing of Atta Mills.

According to John Mahama, he collapsed in his chair and broke down crying like a baby after receiving the devastating news that the president had died.

Speaking to KSM in the resurfaced video, John Mahama narrated, “If I remember properly, it was about 2:30 pm when I got a call from the Chief of Staff. He asked where I was, and I told him I was just leaving to come and join them at the hospital. He then told me to wait in my office and that there was no need to come because the president had just passed away. This was about 2:30 or shortly before that.

“It was a very sad day. I just collapsed in my chair, broke down, and wept like a baby. It’s not something I like to recall. That same evening, here you are, having to be sworn in as president,” he said.

Mahama further narrated, “My ADC locked up my office, so I was there by myself, just trying to gather my thoughts. I stayed there for about an hour when the Speaker, the Attorney General, and some other officials came to see me. My ADC called me on the intercom and said they wanted to see me, so I went into the washroom, washed my face, and tried to compose myself.

“They came in and said they had referred to the Constitution and that the swearing-in had to take place immediately. I protested because I thought we could do it the next day. I didn’t see how I could bring myself to go through a ceremony like that after receiving such tragic news. But they insisted and explained that, by the provisions of the Constitution, there could not be a vacuum in leadership,” he added.

It will be recalled that back in July 2012, Ghana’s Vice-President John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as Ghana’s leader following the sudden death of President John Atta Mills, in line with the 1992 constitution.

Mahama took the oath of office as head of state before a sombre parliament on Wednesday, hours after the announcement of Mills’ death on Tuesday afternoon.

“This is the saddest day in our nation’s history. Tears have engulfed our nation, and we are deeply saddened and distraught,” Mahama said after being sworn in.

“I never imagined that one day that it would place our nation in such a difficult circumstance. I’m personally devastated, I’ve lost a father, I’ve lost a friend, I’ve lost a mentor and a senior comrade,” he said.

“Ghana is united in grief at this time for our departed president.”

Reports suggest the president’s office said that Mills, who had celebrated his 68th birthday some days ago, died a few hours after being taken ill, with no further details given.

A presidential aide also disclosed that the president had complained of pains on Monday evening and died early Tuesday afternoon when his condition worsened.

Old man in viral demolition video receives support from two Churches

An old man who went viral during the demolition exercise at the Sakumono Ramsar Site in Accra has received housing support from two Churches.

Reports suggest the old man received both emotional and material support from the Ultimate Charismatic Centre and the Roman Catholic Church at Lashibi.

The old man, who has been identified as Mr Nyarko, is currently being accommodated temporarily at a facility belonging to the Catholic Church in Lashibi.

According to reports, the demolished structure did not belong to the old man, as he was only living there as a caretaker with his family.

It will be recalled that the visibly distressed old man cried out following the demolition of his home at the Sakumono Ramsar site as part of efforts by the government to demolish buildings in waterways to ease flooding in the capital city.

At the Ultimate Charismatic Centre in Accra, on Sunday, May 11, during a service, Mr Nyarko was invited to the pulpit where the church’s lead pastor, Prophet Akwasi Agyeman Prempeh, announced that the church would cover the cost of Mr Nyarko’s accommodation for two years.

He also promised them additional support aimed at stabilising the family.

Prophet Akwasi Agyeman Prempeh further indicated that once the family’s temporary stay at the Catholic Church in Lashibi facility comes to an end, arrangements would be made to secure rental accommodation with a welfare assistance for at least two years.

In the video, the elderly man is furious, rained curses on security personnel at the demolition site.

In the viral 41-second video, the old man stated, “Leave me, they should kill me today… I will let them kill me. I want the soldiers to kill me… You bunch of fools, it shall never be well with you”.

The ongoing three-day demolition exercise is being carried out by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Tema West Municipal Assembly is targeting illegal structures within the Golf Course enclave of the Sakumono Ramsar site.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the earlier development stated, “It’s the ordinary citizen who suffers greatly at the expense of development. When an individual is constructing gutters, the assembly stops them, but they do not see someone erecting a whole building. Crazy system”.

A netizen added, “Reasons, the municipal assembly workers who issue licenses and permits to them should be arrested and jailed, not transferred to other regions. They’re always moving around those places and are taking money and issuing permits to them to build”.

One more X user added, “I blame the sale of these lands on the so-called “bosses” in the offices, who are aware of the truth about these lands, having before them the town and country plans, and knowing perfectly well that those places must not be sold or bought by buyers, but because of greed for money”.

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has broken his silence following a purported statement officially sacking Kevin Taylor and Ernest Owusu Bempah from the party.

In a statement issued by the NPP on May 10, 2026 disclosed that both have been “EXPELLED from the party with immediate effect”. 

According to the NPP, both men have been found guilty of “gross misconduct, anti-party activities, public attacks on the party, undermining its leadership, and engaging in behaviour inconsistent with the values, principles, and integrity of the New Patriotic Party.”

The NPP’s full statement read, “NPP OFFICIALLY SACKS KEVIN TAYLOR AND ERNEST OWUSU BEMPAH FOR GROSS MISCONDUCT AND ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) wishes to inform the general public and all party members that, in accordance with the provisions of the NPP Constitution and in line with the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity, the following individuals have been EXPELLED from the party with immediate effect:

1. Mr Kevin Taylor

2. Rev. Ernest Owusu Bempah

These individuals have been found guilty of gross misconduct, anti-party activities, public attacks on the party, undermining its leadership, and engaging in behaviour inconsistent with the values, principles, and integrity of the New Patriotic Party.

Their actions have brought the party into disrepute, caused division, and violated the trust placed in them as members and public figures associated with the NPP.

This decision was taken after due process, consultations with relevant party organs, and in strict accordance with Articles 3(5), 4(2)(b), and 12(1)(a) of the NPI Constitution.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that 28 Ghanaians victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network have been rescued.

Ablakwa disclosed that the 28 Ghanaians have been rescued and repatriated, adding that they were promised paradise in Europe by the traffickers after extorting huge sums of money from them.

In a post on Facebook, he wrote, “We have successfully rescued and repatriated 28 Ghanaians from Côte d’ Ivoire who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network.

All 28 Ghanaians had been promised paradise in Europe by the traffickers after extorting huge sums of money from them. Thankfully, they are back in Ghana safely following our special operation.

The Mahama Administration shall not abandon any Ghanaian in distress.

We, however, urge the youth to be alert and avoid falling prey to the modus operandi of these criminal networks”.

In related news, the information gathered has exposed a transnational human trafficking network where thousands of Ghanaians have been lured with promises of travel to Europe, are now trapped in camps, and forced into criminal activities such as prostitution and cybercrime.

Superintendent William Ayariga, Ghana’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, made this revelation following a joint intelligence effort.

According to Superintendent William Ayariga, a routine missing person’s investigation quickly exposed something far more disturbing.

He disclosed that, “Through tracking, we realised a large number of the victims we were searching for had been trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire”.

The report shared by Starrfm read, “Many of the victims had left Ghana believing they were on their way to countries like France and Canada. Instead, they were transported across West Africa, ending up in remote camps in northern Côte d’Ivoire.

One of the key locations identified is Bondoukou, where an estimated 2,500 victims are believed to be held. Other trafficking hotspots include: Aniabrekrom, Ambegro, Songor and Noé.

These camps serve as hubs for exploitation, where victims are brainwashed and forced into illicit activities”.

The report further added, “With support from Ivorian security forces, investigators managed to access one of the camps in Bondoukou. What they found was deeply disturbing.

Between 400 and 450 victims were identified in a single camp. Victims included pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children as young as two months old and their ages ranged from 16 to 60 years

Despite the breakthrough, the specific missing persons initially being tracked were not found.

Two suspected traffickers, identified as Deborah and Suzzy, were arrested and handed over to local authorities.

Deborah is believed to be a major kingpin operating multiple camps across Côte d’Ivoire, with recruitment networks extending into all regions of Ghana.

Suzzy, reportedly from Sefwi Wiaso, is said to have used multiple identities to recruit victims, including at least 10 individuals from Bibiani alone”.

Also, the “victims are targeted across all social classes, including teachers, nurses, bank executives, and even security personnel (military and police). They are promised jobs or relocation abroad, often to Europe. Families invest heavily

They often sell valuables, including cocoa farms, cars, and pay up to 130,000 cedis to ensure their relocation plans are achieved”.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has expressed serious concern about the denial of property rights to women.

He affirmed the need for equal rights for women as spouses in marriage since women are supposed to be the partners of men.

The Speaker made these remarks during a call on him by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) on Friday, 8th May, 2026 at Parliament House, Accra.

FIDA has been vocal and critical of the judgment of an Accra High Court which is generally believed to be unfair and inequitable in its distribution of property acquired during the subsistence of the marriage between self-touted billionaire Richard Nii Armah Quaye and his wife of 16 years, with whom he has three children, Joana Quaye.

With the Speaker to receive the petition from FIDA were the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children and Social Protection and 1st Deputy Majority Whip, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe and the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenzer Ahumah Djietro,. FIDA’s delegation included their President, Madam Gloria Ofori Boadu, Executive Director, Susan Aryeetey, Assistant Secretary, Ofosua Amagyei and Treasurer, Awuraa Konadu Kusi.

In the four-page petition signed by Ms. Gloria Ofori Boadu, FIDA noted that the failure of Parliament to pass the Spousal Property Bill has created an avoidable legal vacuum. Courts are left to resolve disputes without a comprehensive legislation framework to guide them. “Women continue to experience uncertainty about what counts as jointly acquired property, what “equitable distribution” means in practical terms, how direct and indirect contributions are to be assessed and how corporate structures should be treated where family wealth is involved.” The President of FIDA stated.

Citing the RNAQ judgment delivered by Justice Dorgu at the Accrs High Court as an example of a decision which triggered widespread public consternation, FIDA noted in the petition that the decision has also “exposed the confusion, tendency of some judges to be arbitrary and the public anxiety caused by the absence of clear legislative guidance”. Ms. Gloria Ofori Boadu further stated that since the RNAQ judgment became public, “FIDA has received numerous calls and expressions of concern from women and members of the public seeking clarification on the question of their rights in the event of dissolution of marriage or death of a spouse. Women are concerned that, in the absence of clear statutory rules, assets they helped to acquire or preserve may remain beyond their reach.”

The issue in the view of FIDA, goes to the heart of women’s economic dignity, security, independence and fundamental human rights. FIDA called on Parliament of Ghana to act now and that it is time for them to obey the constitutional imperative of enacting legislation in accordance with article 22 to regulate the rights of spouses, whether man or woman.

Responding to the call by FIDA, Rt. Hon.Bagbin affirmed his fullest support for the need for Parliament to pass the BILL as a matter of urgency. He recognised the valuable contribution and said he was not surprised that FIDA had visited him because of the strange ruling of the High Court. “We ourselves are very concerned about it. I am not surprised that you are here today because of the recent ruling of the courts.” He said.

The Speaker of Parliament affirmed his support for women in the affairs of the world. “Who can survive without you? That is why God created you. If they could have survived without you, God would not have created you, And in creating you, God made sure that whatever he had, he put it together for the betterment of humanity.”

Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin said in view of the recent developments, “Parliament is more than ready and willing to pass the Bill under a certificate of urgency.”

A fresh wave of controversy has erupted in the high-profile divorce case involving businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye, as (RNAQ) his former wife, Joana Quaye, formally petitions the Chief Justice over what she describes as “gross misconduct” by the trial judge.

At the center of the dispute is Justice Justin Dorgu, who delivered Final Orders in the case on January 20, 2026, only for the full written judgment to surface three months later, on April 20, 2026.

Joana Quaye is now alleging that the timing was not just irregular, but calculated.

“A Judgment After the Deadline?”

According to court records, the Final Orders—covering property division, child custody, and maintenance—were issued in January, effectively triggering the three-month window for appeal. However, the detailed reasoning behind those orders, contained in the full judgment, was not filed or made available until April 20, when the appeal window expired a day before on April 19.

For Joana Quaye, this raises a troubling question: did the judge do this deliberately to deny her a fair opportunity to appeal?
If her new lawyers, Dame & Partners, not managed to promptly file an appeal and waited for the full judgment, would her right to appeal not have been defeated?

In her petition to the Judicial Council of Ghana and the Chief Justice, she argues that the judge’s actions effectively “ambushed” her legal rights.

She contends that Justice Dorgu issued what he described as the “Conclusion” of his judgment before actually writing the full decision—then released the reasoning only after the deadline for appeal had lapsed. Effectively, the judge “worked his way back” after writing the conclusions and filing same.

Allegations of Bias and Misconduct

Joana Quaye says the sequence of events suggests more than just procedural delay. In her petition, she questions how a judge could finalize conclusions in a case affecting her constitutional and spousal rights before going back to work on the legal reasoning behind them, and release same after her right to an appeal had elapsed.

To her, this points to a predetermined outcome.

She further accuses the judge of “serialising” his judgment in a manner that undermined her right to justice, insisting that the process has resulted in what she calls “two versions” of the court’s decision—one she was forced to respond to without full context, and another revealed too late to challenge.

Describing the situation as “unfair” and “deeply troubling,” she warns that such conduct risks bringing Ghana’s judiciary into disrepute.

Call for Investigation

Joana Quaye is now demanding a full-scale inquiry into Justice Dorgu’s conduct, urging the Chief Justice and relevant authorities to investigate whether the delayed release of the judgment amounts to judicial misconduct.

She argues that the issue goes beyond her personal case, warning that if left unchecked, such practices could endanger the rights of other litigants—particularly women and vulnerable individuals navigating the justice system.

A mining town in the Central Region is mourning the death of their chief Mmratehene of Ayanfuri after he accidentally shot himself to death with a pump-action gun.

Reports suggest the traditional ruler lost his life after he accidentally shot himself while performing at a funeral ceremony.

In a viral video shared on X, the chief was dancing while holding the pump-action gun, and another man was spraying cash on him.

The chief later pointed the gun at his chest and could be seen occasionally pressing the trigger, but the gun did not fire.

He again pointed the gun at his shoulder, pulling the trigger; this time, the gun fired with the bullet hitting his chest, forcing him to the ground.

The video post shared by Ghana Chronicles was captioned, “ TRAGEDY: Nana Kwabena Okyere, Mmratehene of Ayanfuri, has reportedly died after accidentally shooting himself with a pump-action gun during a funeral ceremony.

He was rushed for treatment, but sadly did not survive”.

In related news, a Ghanaian man has narrowly escaped death after a stray bullet, allegedly fired during celebratory gunfire, pierced through the roof of his home, hitting his laptop while seated in his room.

The Ghanaian man, identified as Charles McCarthy, is now calling on authorities to implement stricter enforcement of laws against celebratory gunfire.

He warns that what is often treated as harmless tradition poses a serious threat to human life.

In a Facebook post on May 3, 2026, Charles McCarthy, sharing his experience, wrote, “Yesterday, I  became a living statistic of this reckless tradition. While sitting in the supposed safety of my room, a heavy thud shattered the silence. A stray bullet, fired by an unknown individual perhaps miles away, ripped through my roof and ceiling. It didn’t stop there. The projectile slammed into my laptop, shattering the screen, the very tool I use for my work and daily life.

As I stared at the twisted metal and glass, the chilling realisation set in: had I been leaning a few inches to the left, that bullet would have entered my skull. I am lucky. My laptop can be replaced. But every year, families across our country are not so fortunate. They lose children, parents, and neighbours to a “celebration” they weren’t even part of”.

Also, some months ago, it was reported that a 19-year-old pregnant woman was battling for her life after she was hit by a stray bullet during a burial rite.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Hiawu Besease in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti region.

The victim has been identified as Alice Serwaa and has been reported to have been shot in her abdomen on Thursday night.

The information gathered suggests she was hit by a stray bullet during the final funeral rites of a late queen mother in the community.

Alice Serwaa is now battling for her life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Her unborn baby, according to reports, sadly did not survive after the bullet struck the fetus, resulting in a stillbirth.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on May 9, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi said, “ What he is doing is what is termed ‘Voodoo Mathematics’; it is a sacrilege in accounting to add profit or loss from other comprehensive income statements to profit or loss in the real PML statement. It is not done anywhere. 

Sammy Gyamfi also quizzed whether Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is an auditor or a chartered accountant.

Adding that, what credibility does he have to question the credibility of KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, he has to keep quiet.

Sammy Gyamfi insisted that discussions about the central bank’s financial position must be based strictly on audited facts, he added, “Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but no one has a right to their own set of facts”.

“It is important for us to respect the facts. It is not about what you think or non-existent realities. We are talking about an external institution within the framework of the BoG, and an independent external institution that the BoG doesn’t control, KPMG.

“KPMG conducts an external audit on the finances of the BoG and publishes the results. This is not a document prepared by the BoG; it is prepared by KPMG,” he explained.

“If KPMG tells you on page 15 the profit and loss position of the BoG, that is what you use to examine the health of every corporate body. KPMG says BoG made an operating loss of GH¢15 billion, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says GH¢34 billion”.

He added, “Is he an auditor? Is he a chartered accountant? What credibility does he have? Does it mean he has more credibility than KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, you have to keep quiet”.

“This is voodoo mathematics he is doing. If KPMG tells you the Bank of Ghana made a loss of GH¢15.6 billion in 2025, the matter ends there unless you can use facts to impugn their integrity,” he added.

His comments follow, the Minority in Parliament who has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.

The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has replied to Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), after he challenged him to a debate.

Oppong Nkrumah on Facebook insisted that the BoG losses exceeded the amount cited, claiming that the BoG recorded a total loss of GH¢34.9 billion.

He argued that the Bank of Ghana used a combination of artificial revenue recognition and accounting treatments to obscure the full extent of the losses.

According to him, evidence of this can be found on Page 16 of the financial statements, where the bank reports consolidated income.

Oppong Nkrumah detailed that, in addition to the GH¢15.6 billion headline figure, an additional GH¢19.3 billion in other comprehensive income brings the total to GH¢34.9 billion, adding that when adjustments are made for sold gold, the total loss rises to about GH¢44 billion.

However, Sammy Gyamfi has told Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to render a public apology over his misleading claims regarding the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) 2025 annual report.

He argued that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s attempt to justify the falsehoods he peddled about the 2025 audited financial statements of the BoG by shifting the goal post is rather exposing his dishonesty.

Sammy Gyamfi further challenged Oppong Nkrumah to stop responding to him on Facebook, demanding he select any media platform of his choice and a date and time of your convenience for a debate.

In a social media post shared on X, Sammy Gyamfi wrote, “ I maintain that the “operating loss” recorded in the audited financials of the BoG for the year 2025 is GHS15.6 billion. And that, the audited income statement (P&L) is what is relevant in assessing the financial health of the Bank, and not the Other Comprehensive Income statement, that mainly captures unrealised revaluation gains/losses and exchange differences.

My brother KON, you lied! Apologise and let’s move on. But if you want to litigate this matter further, stop responding to me on Facebook. You are welcome to select any media platform of your choice and a date and time of your convenience for a debate”.

However, Oppong Nkrumah rejected Sammy Gyamfi’s challenge for a debate, arguing that Bank of Ghana’s 2025 accounts are not the responsibility of GoldBod’s CEO or the NDC’s National Communications Officer.

He stressed that if a debate is necessary, Ato Forson should step forward not Sammy Gyamfi.

Oppong Nkrumah wrote, “The Bank of Ghana’s 2025 accounts are not the responsibility of GoldBod’s CEO or the NDC’s National Communications Officer. They belong to the Minister for Finance, who must present them to Parliament. Since you are aware of the mess you have caused, you have chosen to evade official probes and hide behind sponsored platforms where you can have a field day. If a debate is necessary, Ato Forson should step forward. He has the responsibility, integrity, and competence to do so. Not you, my friend. Until he does, answers are only required from you in a Parliamentary inquiry on the record and under oath. Stop wasting our time and show up.

If you are as confident of your case as your posts suggest, be the loudest voice in your party today, demanding that the inquiry I initiated on March 27th be allowed to proceed. Then we will see who is telling the truth and who is lying”.

Also, Oppong Nkrumah further accused Sammy Gyamfi of telling four lies, saying, “On January 3rd, 2026, you stated emphatically on Newsfile that there were no losses. You dismissed Ghanaians who pointed to losses as “dreaming or hallucinating.” This was a lie. Today, you are conceding to the GHS 15B portion of the loss. So, who is lying here?

– In 2018, you called a KPMG report “bogus, one-sided, and inconclusive.” In 2026, you claim that only KPMG can be trusted. It seems that you lack a principled position. The same firm, different positions. That is dishonesty.

– You claim to welcome a probe, yet you have been evading a Parliamentary investigation into the Gold losses of billions of cedis since March 27th. Why have your majority members in Parliament been obstructing all the probes? Your lies will be exposed if you are brave enough to appear under oath in a Parliamentary Inquiry where documents will be presented and scrutinized.

– You deny that GoldBod off-taker fees were documented by the IMF, but the Fund has not retracted its findings. Who is the liar here? Is it Sammy Gyamfi or the IMF?”.

The mother of the final slain Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Joana Yabani, has issued a stern warning regarding the murder of her daughter.

According to Joana Yabani mother, Mrs Rejoice Yabani, those delivering justice must be fair and just, otherwise her daughter’s blood will speak warning that the matter is spiritual.  

Joana Deladem Yabani’s mother, speaking on VOKLive with portions shared on X on Saturday, May 9, 2026, disclosed, “There’s a picture flying about that they’ve killed somebody, a lady at KNUST. The picture looks like your daughter. She only fell in love with a young man with the heart of a beast,” she lamented.

“27th February will be a date I’ll never forget in my life until I return to my maker,” she said.

She added, “The camera has been able to pick whoever did it. His act has been captured. But my daughter is gone forever. I read something somewhere that he sent to my daughter. He said the mirror that once told him, ‘You are beautiful,’ has now become a deadly weapon in the hands of the same person. I was like, ‘Wow.’”

“We want to thank this school. At least they had cameras that could pick out evildoers like Daniel Tuffuor. They only have to be fair and just. Otherwise, my daughter’s blood will speak, and it will shock people. This is a spiritual matter.”

It will be recalled that Daniel Tuffuor is standing trial for murdering his girlfriend, a 21-year-old final-year student, Joana Yabani.  

The Police investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship.

The accused Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s lifeless body was discovered on campus earlier that morning.

The university’s security service, upon being alerted to the incident, promptly reported it to the police. Also, CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, alleged to be Tuffuor, strangling Joana to death following an altercation.

Meanwhile, the sisters of Joana Yabani have appealed for an expedited legal process.

Joana Yabani’s family are calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling the case, and all relevant authorities to expedite the legal process and deliver justice without further delay.

Their plea comes as today, 5th November 2025, marks what would have been Joana’s 22nd birthday.

In a viral video shared on X on November 5, 2025, the sisters of the late Joana called on the court for the legal proceedings to be accelerated.

One sister stated, “We have attended several court hearings after the initial appearance, but constant adjournments have characterised this process. This raises serious concerns. What exactly is happening with our judicial system regarding this case?

“Is there not sufficient evidence to secure a conviction for the accused, Daniel Tuffuor, after nearly a year? A swift resolution is imperative, as justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.

According to the family, the late Joana Yabani would have celebrated her 22nd birthday on November 5, 2025.

“Today, November 5, 2025, is supposed to be Joana’s 22nd birthday. Instead of celebrating the future that was stolen, we are mourning our innocent sister.

It will be recalled that the young man who went viral for threatening to kill any police officer or soldier sent to arrest him has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

The Police detail that the suspect, identified as Opoku Emmanuel, was arrested on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region

In a viral photo shared on X, the young man was seen in handcuffs following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service.

However, the young man, before the arrest, had earlier apologised.

According to the young man, he was only creating content when he made those pronouncements.

Speaking in another viral video, the young man stated, “Ghanaian leaders, I am pleading with you, I posted a video on TikTok, I was only making content, I should not have said those things. I threatened the Police and soldiers. I have seen some people have posted my pictures in a wanted group.

I am not a thief, I am not a bad person, I am a hustler. The things I said, I did not speak properly. Please forgive me, Ghana Police and Soldiers”.

It will be recalled that the young Ghanaian man had earlier threatened personnel of the Ghana Police Service and of the Ghana Armed Forces in a viral video.

Speaking in a viral video, the young man stated, “If you are a police officer or a soldier and you are sent to arrest armed robbers, and you meet me without holding any gun, just know that I will kill you. I swear to God, the powers I’m holding you don’t have some”.

In the second paragraph of the said Facebook post, a snapshot of which is attached herewith, you claim that “the BoG recorded a TOTAL LOSS of GHS34.9bn”.

But Kojo, was this the claim you made at your press conference on Sunday, 3rd May 2026??? The answer is a big fat NO. 

Your attempt to justify the falsehoods you peddled about the 2025 audited financial statements of the BoG by shifting the goal post is rather exposing your dishonesty.

Since you will never accept to debate me on this issue on any media platform, for fear of being exposed, as your custom is, I will proceed to respond to you here.

Kojo, in your press statement of Sunday, 3rd May, 2026, you stated that:

1. The “TRUE OPERATING LOSS” of the BoG for 2025 was 34.9 billion cedis. Nowhere in your press statement did you say that “total loss” (total comprehensive income) of the BoG for 2025 was 34.9 billion cedis, as you are suggesting now. Throughout your press statement, you made the point that the 34.9 billion loss figure you put out related to the “operating loss” of the BoG for 2025. Don’t shift the goal post now, Chief.

2. You further stated in your press statement that the “TOTAL OPERATING LOSS” of the BoG for 2025 was actually 44 billion cedis; a false claim you now appear to have completely abandoned after your voodoo analysis was exposed.

Find below a direct quote from the press statement you read and released to the media on Sunday, 3rd May, 2026, to refresh your memory. I have also attached a screenshot for ease of reference.

“The Government and its spin doctors, led by the NDC party officials who did the Press Conference, are trying to convince the people of Ghana that the loss is GHS 15.6 billion. We regret to tell the people of Ghana that this is not true. The true Operating loss of the Bank is actually GHS 34.9 billion. And in fact, if you add back the GHS 9.6 billion proceeds from the Gold Sales (which were hurriedly done to reduce the loss as at September), the recalculated loss is actually GHS 44 billion.”

“As they always say, the cover-up is worse than the crime. The attempt to cover up the true operating loss of the bank is what is most troubling.

The BOG has employed a combination of artificial revenue recognition on one hand, and clever accounting standards on the other hand, in their attempt to cover up this loss.”

“The proof of this can be found on Page 16 of the Accounts, where they report the consolidated income of the Bank. On that page, the bank admits that in addition to the GHS 15.6 billion Headline they have reported, they have also made an additional loss of GHS 19.3 billion in other comprehensive income. GHS 15.6 + GHS 19.3 = GHS 34.9 (approximately GHS 35 billion). And if you add back the sold Gold, it is a GHS 44 billion loss.”

Kojo, I am sure that after reading this quotation of yours, you will accept the fact that you lied to the good people of Ghana about the true OPERATING LOSS of the BoG for the year 2025 and apologise for the voodoo mathematics you engaged in.

The GoldBod CEO quizzed whether Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is an auditor or a chartered accountant.

Adding that, what credibility does he have to question the credibility of KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, he has to keep quiet.

Sammy Gyamfi insisted that discussions about the central bank’s financial position must be based strictly on audited facts.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, KPMG says the Bank of Ghana made an operating loss in 2025 of GH¢15.6 billion, but Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says it is GH¢34 billion.

Speaking on TV3 Key Points aired on May 9, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi explained, “So what we are discussing is not a document prepared by the Bank of Ghana. This is a document prepared by KPMG. And when we talk about KPMG, you’re talking about one of the four biggest accounting and auditing firms in the world”.

“KPMG says the Bank of Ghana made an operating loss in 2025 of GH¢15.6 billion. And then you have Kojo Oppong Nkrumah saying it is GH¢34 billion. Are you an auditor? What credibility do you have?” he questioned.

He added, “Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but no one has a right to their own set of facts”.

“It is important for us to respect the facts. It is not about what you think or non-existent realities. We are talking about an external institution within the framework of the BoG, and an independent external institution that the BoG doesn’t control, KPMG.

“KPMG conducts an external audit on the finances of the BoG and publishes the results. This is not a document prepared by the BoG; it is prepared by KPMG,” he explained.

“If KPMG tells you on page 15 the profit and loss position of the BoG, that is what you use to examine the health of every corporate body. KPMG says BoG made an operating loss of GH¢15 billion, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says GH¢34 billion”.

He added, “Is he an auditor? Is he a chartered accountant? What credibility does he have? Does it mean he has more credibility than KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, you have to keep quiet”.

“This is voodoo mathematics he is doing. If KPMG tells you the Bank of Ghana made a loss of GH¢15.6 billion in 2025, the matter ends there unless you can use facts to impugn their integrity,” he added.

His comments follow, the Minority in Parliament who has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.

Police Inspector interdicted for allegedly defiling his biological daughter

Police Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie has been interdicted by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter.

According to the Police command, the Police inspector stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region is being investigated by DOVVSU.

The police statement disclosed that the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 9, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command read, “The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that an alleged defilement/incest case involving Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, currently stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region, is under active investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Agona District.

The complaint was lodged on 4th November, 2025, by one Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua/ER on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, alleging that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.

Following the report, the victim was referred for medical examination at a Government health facility to aid investigations.

On 20/02/2026, the Inspector reported himself at the Agona DOVVSU, where he was arrested and a statement on cautioned obtained from him. Suspect denied the allegations and was later released on enquiry bail to be reporting periodically

The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave the way for further investigation.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments”.

In related defilement news, a four-year-old girl has been allegedly defiled eight times by a 14-year-old boy identified as a Junior High School pupil in Suhum in the Eastern Region.

Reports suggest the four-year-old girl is suffering from serious reproductive health complications after she was allegedly defiled 8 times by a 14-year-old.

According to the family of the four-year-old girl, the defilement began when the child was only three-and-a-half years old, with the alleged abuse happening in several parts of their compound house.

The news shared by GHOne TV stated, “A four-year-old girl is battling serious reproductive health complications after she was allegedly defiled eight times by a 14-year-old JHS pupil in Suhum, Eastern Region.

According to the victim’s family, the abuse began when the child was about three-and-a-half years old. However, the child’s complaints were reportedly not taken seriously until they became frequent, especially whenever her mother attempted to wash her…”

Further update by Starr FM detailed that “upon further questioning, the child mentioned the name of the suspect, a 14-year-old boy identified as Addo, who resides in the same compound house. When confronted, the suspect allegedly admitted to sexually abusing the child eight times”.

According to the report, the matter was subsequently reported to the police, who issued medical forms for examination.

A medical report from the Suhum Government Hospital, endorsed by Dr Nancy De-Graft Menz, read, “On pelvic examination, there were minor abrasions on the outer labia. The hymen was not intact, with the presence of foul-smelling whitish discharge on the vulva.

The perineum looked normal. There was also mild tenderness on the vulva. All other systemic examinations were normal.”

“Honourable, I beg” – Watch a Chinese contractor beg Road Minister not to terminate their contract

A Chinese contractor from the CIWE Engineering Ltd, Ghana, working on the rehabilitation of the Wenchi–Sawla road, has begged Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, not to terminate their contract.

The Road Minister, who paid a working visit to the site of the rehabilitation works, was not pleased with the work done so far and cast doubt on the contractor’s ability to complete the rehabilitation within the stipulated 24-month period.

Speaking in the viral video, the Road Minister stated, “We think we should reduce your work and get somebody else to do the work.

“Honourable, I beg,” the contractor stated.

However, Kwame Governs Agbodza responded, “You don’t have to beg, I want the work done. I don’t have confidence that what I have seen so far, you can finish in 24 months”.

In related news, the Minister for Roads and Highways has also issued a two-month ultimatum to the contractor of the Wenchi–Sawla road, Maripoma Enterprise Limited.

According to the Roads Minister, Maripoma Enterprise Limited must deliver at least 20% progress on the Wenchi–Sawla Lot 7 road project or face contract termination.

Kwame Governs Agbodza made this known after inspecting the project and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance.

The Roads Minister stated, “It’s either you do the 20%, or we terminate. You are not the first person we are telling,” Mr Agbodza said during the inspection.

“We went to the Western North. You didn’t even turn up on the site. You did not even turn up on the site when you took mobilisation on that one as well. In fact, you didn’t even have a site camp,” he said.

“You are a big company, but your bigness is not showing in the actual delivery of your projects,” he said. “We need to say this in the afternoon for everybody to hear. You must change the way you operate your things. At the moment, it’s not helpful to you and to the country.”

He further added, “You are sitting on the job. Well, we have said what we have to say. You have two months to do 20 per cent, or we are not even coming to talk to you. We’ll terminate, and you can go to court”.

“Go and see the condition in which the people are in that section of the road. Why? It’s not right,” he said.

“We should be celebrating policy like the Big Push. It was built around the Ghanaian contractor, and it was deliberate,” he added.

The Road Minister further lamented that the delays are exposing the government to public criticism on social media, saying, “Why should the President suffer abuse on this corridor because he’s giving you work, and you are not doing the work?” he said. “Do you see what they are saying on social media? TikTok? What wrong have we done?”

Also, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and his Deputy, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, have summoned contractors working on the Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi road project over the slow pace.

The Road Minister revealed that the contractor, VOLTA IMPEX, received approximately GH¢66 million as mobilisation funds but has failed to deliver work to the expected standard.

Governs Agbodza in the video stated, “The clearing that we all witnessed doesn’t look like work done in January or February. It looks like it was carried out only about three or four days ago”.

“Where is the project manager? When did you do this clearing?” he asked.

“This cannot be clearing done in April. You first said April, and now you say part was done earlier and another part today,” he stated.

“On our way here, we were shocked to be told that we are actually coming to hand over the site to the contractor. It clearly indicates that no real work has been happening,” he said.

“We have information that about GH¢66 million has been paid as mobilisation for this project. It is unacceptable for us to see this level of work at this stage,” he added.

“This is totally unacceptable. The contractor’s Chief Director must appear before the Ministry on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. to explain what is happening,” he said.

“Banks would give mortgages for workers to buy the houses” – Mahama announces

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that banks would give mortgages for the workers to buy houses and pay over 15 to 20 years.

According to John Mahama, Organised Labour, Social Security, National Insurance Trust, and Republic Bank of Ghana will establish a GH¢3 billion revolving fund to support companies in constructing houses for the project.

He disclosed that the scheme, in partnership with organised labour and financial institutions to ensure that nurses, teachers, doctors, and other civil servants can access decent housing under good conditions.

President Mahama made this known on Saturday, May 9, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the over 1,000-unit Green City Housing Project at Dedesua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

“Companies like State Housing Company (SHC), Tema Development Corporation (TDC), and all the housing companies will be given credit from this fund to build houses. And then the banks will give mortgages for the workers to buy the houses and pay over a 15 to 20-year period,” he said.

Mahama disclosed that the scheme will make home ownership more accessible and sustainable for public sector workers.

Meanwhile, Amos Owusu, the Atwima District Chairperson of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has lamented the poor welfare of teachers in Ghana.

According to the GNAT Chairperson, one cannot be a teacher in Ghana and live a good life.

He expressed deep concern about the welfare of teachers, stating that a teacher can’t build a house these days in Ghana.

The GNAT Chairperson speaking, lamented saying, “It is not possible for a teacher to build a house these days. There is no prosperity in teaching. You cannot teach and live a good life”.

“Even among our leaders in Ghana, how many would allow their children to attend Colleges of Education to become teachers?” he asked.

“Even the students we teach do not aspire to become teachers because of how poorly teachers are treated in this country,” he noted.

He added, “Teaching has become a stepping stone. Many people enter the profession and later switch careers or travel abroad in search of better conditions. You cannot remain in Ghana and teach to live even an average life”.

The GNAT Chairperson further detailed allowances and benefits owed to teachers.

“Car maintenance allowance has not been paid since 2021, and even when it is paid, it is less than GH¢600. What is painful is that we are given assurances, but they are never fulfilled,” he lamented.

The GNAT Chairperson added, “In other professions, like banking, workers are supported to acquire vehicles because of better conditions of service, but teachers are left behind”.

“Our conditions of service state that the government should cater for the healthcare of teachers, their spouses, and up to four children, but no government has implemented this,” he said.

“There is a death service condition where the government is supposed to provide a coffin, an ambulance, and even support funeral arrangements when a teacher dies. This has never been implemented,” he stated.

“A teacher who has worked for over 35 years does not retire with even GH¢50,000, and even at the highest rank, one may not receive up to GH¢100,000. If you depend on a pension to complete a building project, you may never finish it,” he explained.

“We plead with the current government to help us. Stakeholders must also support our call so that we can secure better conditions of service. Teachers are suffering,” he appealed.

Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, has issued a stern warning to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Johnson Asiama.

Appearing on TV3 Key Point on May 9, 2026, the GoldBod CEO drew a clear line on central bank conduct.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, if current BoG Governor Johnson Asiama engages in excessive money printing like his predecessor, Dr Ernest Addison, he will organise and lead a protest against him.

Sammy Gyamfi is quoted by a TV3 news card to have said, “If Governor Johson Asiama goes on a money-printing spree like Dr Ernest Addison did and plunges the Bank of Ghana into losses, I will lead a demonstration against him”.

Also, Sammy Gyamfi has accused Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, of engaging in ‘Voodoo Mathematics’.

Sammy Gyamfi argued that  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been misleading the public over the reported financial losses of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) with his Voodoo Mathematics.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on May 9, 2026, Sammy Gyamfi said, “ What he is doing is what is termed ‘Voodoo Mathematics’; it is a sacrilege in accounting to add profit or loss from other comprehensive income statements to profit or loss in the real PML statement. It is not done anywhere. 

Sammy Gyamfi also quizzed whether Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is an auditor or a chartered accountant.

Adding that, what credibility does he have to question the credibility of KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, he has to keep quiet.

Sammy Gyamfi insisted that discussions about the central bank’s financial position must be based strictly on audited facts, he added, “Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but no one has a right to their own set of facts”.

“It is important for us to respect the facts. It is not about what you think or non-existent realities. We are talking about an external institution within the framework of the BoG, and an independent external institution that the BoG doesn’t control, KPMG.

“KPMG conducts an external audit on the finances of the BoG and publishes the results. This is not a document prepared by the BoG; it is prepared by KPMG,” he explained.

“If KPMG tells you on page 15 the profit and loss position of the BoG, that is what you use to examine the health of every corporate body. KPMG says BoG made an operating loss of GH¢15 billion, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says GH¢34 billion”.

He added, “Is he an auditor? Is he a chartered accountant? What credibility does he have? Does it mean he has more credibility than KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, you have to keep quiet”.

“This is voodoo mathematics he is doing. If KPMG tells you the Bank of Ghana made a loss of GH¢15.6 billion in 2025, the matter ends there unless you can use facts to impugn their integrity,” he added.

His comments follow, the Minority in Parliament who has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, alleged that the central bank employed “artificial recognition” and “clever accounting” to move portions of the deficit into “other comprehensive income”.

He detailed that the move effectively downplayed the scale of the operating loss.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah argued that the BoG’s “true operating loss” is closer to GH¢34.9 billion, adding that once gold sale proceeds are factored in, the total comprehensive loss nears GH¢44 billion.

In other news, the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has told the John Mahama-led government to shut down colleges of Education if the government cannot be employed.

According to the TTAG, the 7,000 number of teachers being employed by the Mahama government is woefully inadequate.

The TTAG also demanded that the government fulfil its promise to automatically post trained teachers.

He highlighted that more than 45,000 trained teachers remain without postings, with over 65,000 students currently enrolled in Colleges of Education.

Speaking at a press conference at the association’s national secretariat on Wednesday, April 22, TTAG President Nanija Devine stated, “The 7,000 number is too small for our workforce, and for that matter, it should be increased to absorb all the qualified, trained teachers in the system. We are also making it a firm demand that the government must honour the automatic posting of trained teachers,” he said.

“Those currently in the Colleges of Education are over 65,000. If the 45,000 already in the system do not know when they will be posted, then what about those still in training? What is the essence of their education?” he questioned.

“If indeed the government cannot recruit the 45,000 trained teachers in the system, then the Colleges of Education should consider closing down.”

A sorrowful scene from the burial ceremony of Abigail Opoku, the pregnant woman who died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital as a result of reported neglect by medical staff.

In one of the viral videos, showed the heartbreaking moment, the father of Abigail Opoku, the young pregnant woman who tragically died during childbirth at Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, broke down in uncontrollable tears.

The father dressed in white broke down in uncontrollable emotion while his beloved daughter was laid to rest.

The emotional farewell left family members, friends, and mourners in tears.

It will be recalled that Abigail Opoku reportedly died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

Reports suggest the pregnant woman was allegedly denied an emergency caesarean section because there was no available recovery ward bed.

According to reports, her family stressed she had been referred from a private hospital for urgent treatment but remained in the delivery ward for about 36 hours without surgery, and they believe the delay led to her death.

Following the development, the Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has set up a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

In a statement signed by the Central Regional Director of Health Service, Dr Mrs. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, on April 29, 2026, highlighted that it is being treated with “utmost seriousness,”

He disclosed that a dedicated committee has been formed to conduct a full investigation.

Parts of the statement read, “The Central Regional Health Directorate wishes to inform the general public that it has become aware of the unfortunate maternal death that occurred at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic loss”.

The Central Regional Director of Health Service disclosed that the committee has been tasked to carry out a “thorough, objective, and transparent” review of the incident and submit its findings and recommendations for public disclosure.

The committee comprised members from the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, the Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Office of the Attorney-General.

The Central Regional Director of Health Service also called for calm, urging the public to allow the committee to complete its work without interference and also reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare.

Meanwhile, the father of 27-year-old Abigail Opoku, the pregnant woman who passed away after allegedly being denied a caesarean section at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital, has called for the dismissal of the doctors and nurses who were on duty at the hospital.

Speaking after the incident, in a viral video, the father of late Abigail Opoku stated, “The doctors and nurses who were on duty at the time of the incident at the Mother and Child Hospital must be dismissed. The government must pay attention to that hospital because they have caused me great harm with what it did to my child. All my hope is lost”.

“It was after my daughter had died that someone had the courage to inform me of it. They told me they were calling the mortuary workers to come and carry her body away. I was shaking and couldn’t control myself when they carried my daughter away to the mortuary,” he added.

“The mortuary attendant said the unborn baby had to be removed from my daughter, and the process, together with the embalmment, would amount to GH₵1200,” he stated.

Also, Abigail Opoku’s sister has also explained, saying, “Before she was referred, we were told to allow for a cesarean surgery to save both the baby and the mother. But when we told the nurses at Mother and Child Hospital, they said the recovery ward was fully occupied, so they couldn’t perform the surgery”.

“They told us she will deliver. We arrived between 2 and 3 am, but they gave her no medication. She was lying in pain, and even when she personally requested the CS, they didn’t mind her,” she added.

“KPMG conducts an external audit on the finances of the BoG and publishes the results. This is not a document prepared by the BoG; it is prepared by KPMG,” he explained.

“If KPMG tells you on page 15 the profit and loss position of the BoG, that is what you use to examine the health of every corporate body. KPMG says BoG made an operating loss of GH¢15 billion, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says GH¢34 billion”.

He added, “Is he an auditor? Is he a chartered accountant? What credibility does he have? Does it mean he has more credibility than KPMG? Unless you can use facts to impugn the work of KPMG, you have to keep quiet”.

“This is voodoo mathematics he is doing. If KPMG tells you the Bank of Ghana made a loss of GH¢15.6 billion in 2025, the matter ends there unless you can use facts to impugn their integrity,” he added.

His comments follow, the Minority in Parliament who has disputed the official Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) figures, which claimed they made a GH¢15.6 billion operating loss for the 2025 financial year.

According to the Minority, they acknowledge the BoG’s transparency in its public disclosure, but disputed the figures.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, alleged that the central bank employed “artificial recognition” and “clever accounting” to move portions of the deficit into “other comprehensive income”.

He detailed that the move effectively downplayed the scale of the operating loss.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah argued that the BoG’s “true operating loss” is closer to GH¢34.9 billion, adding that once gold sale proceeds are factored in, the total comprehensive loss nears GH¢44 billion.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, May 3, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disputed official figures, saying, “The government and its spin doctors, led by the NDC party officials who did that press conference, are trying to convince the people of Ghana that their loss is GH¢15.6 billion.

“We regret to tell the people of Ghana that this is not true. The true operating loss of the Bank of Ghana for the year 2025 is GH¢34.9”, he remarked.

He stated, “The government says the loss is GHC15.6 billion. The true operating loss of the Bank is actually GHC34.9 billion cedis.

In fact, if you add back the 9.6 billion cedis proceeds from the Gold sales, the recalculated loss is actually GHC44 billion.”

 A 40-year-old farmer identified as Auntie Esi, a charcoal producer, has allegedly murdered her husband, Kweku Blankson.

According to reports, a domestic dispute spiralled out of control, leading to the wife butchering the husband.

The information gathered suggests the couple had a bitter quarrel over the finances of their joint charcoal business.

The wife accused the husband of withholding profits from recent sales, sparking heated arguments.

Reports suggest that while the husband was asleep, Esi allegedly retrieved a sharpened cutlass from their kitchen and attacked him.

A resident identified as Isaac Panyin Mensah revealed that Kweku Blankson was left in a pool of blood after sustaining multiple deep wounds.

He was rushed to the first Mankessim Hospital, but due to severe blood loss, he was referred to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In related murder news, the Ghana Police Service has declared 30-year-old soldier Prince Krah wanted over the murder of a fuel tanker driver and his pregnant partner in Golf City on May 1, 2026.

According to the Police statement, the soldier reportedly lived with the victims, 45-year-old Ebenezer Kwabena Obiri and 22-year-old Mary Anim, who were found dead with multiple machete wounds.

They detailed that Ebenezer Obri was reportedly last seen with the suspect, Krah, on the night of 30th April, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued by the Kpone Magistrate Court.

The Police statement revealed that the military officer is currently in hiding and may be in Kakusunanka or the Kamina Barracks in Tamale, placing a GH¢100,000 reward for anyone who offers credible information leading to his arrest.

In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department on May 6, 2026, read, “The Ghana Police Service has declared suspect Prince Krah, aged about 30, wanted in connection with the murder of two persons at Saki, near Tema Golf City, on 1st May 2026.

Police investigations indicate that suspect Prince Krah had been living in a chamber and hall apartment with a couple, Ebenezer Kwabena Obiri, aged about 45, and Mary Anim, aged about 22, who were both found dead in their room with multiple machete wounds.

The male victim was last seen in the company of suspect Prince Krah on the night of 30th April 2026. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Kpone Magistrate Court on 4th May 2026.

Prince Krah is described as dark in complexion, about 5.7 feet tall, and of stout build. He was last seen wearing a Lacoste shirt and jeans trousers. The suspect, who is said to be a military officer, has since gone into hiding. Information gathered suggests he may be within the Kakusunanka or Kamina Barracks in Tamale.

A reward of GHe100,000.00 is being offered for credible information leading to his arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest Police station or call 191 or 112”.

Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, has recounted her 35-year love journey with her husband, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie the Chief Justice of Ghana.

According to Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, they first met when her husband was posted for an attachment as a lawyer.

She narrated in an interview on Adom TV on May 6, 2026, “One day, I went to collect food for the prisoners, and he asked me my name. I told him I was Patience Boafo. Since I was always the one going for the food, he later asked me what I did after work. I told him that was my private life, so I couldn’t disclose it. We eventually became friends and would go for walks together”.

The Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service detailed that her husband’s proposal itself was odd. saying,  “He didn’t propose directly. If you know Sekondi well, there’s a place called Zongo Quarters.

“We had gone for a walk and were climbing a hill when we met an old lady. She asked if we were in a relationship. I quickly said no, but my husband said yes. The woman then told me that if I hadn’t thought about it, I should because we would make a good pair.”

 She further disclosed that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie went to her mother’s house to formally express his intentions.

It will be recalled that the couple’s love story, which became public after Justice Baffoe-Bonnie disclosed it during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie recounted how he met his wife while they were both in the Prison Service in Sekondi.

Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie shared a personal moment during his appearance before the Vetting Committee.

According to him, as a Deputy Superintendent at the time, he was not permitted to marry a junior officer, so he opted out of the Prison Service so that she could stay.

Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, November 10, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie recounted, “I joined the Ghana Prisons Service in 1988 and completed six months of military training.

Following my training, I was posted to Sekondi, where I met my wife, who at the time has a bob no rank she did’nt have rank and was a sixth former; she was starting her career in the Prison Service.

“I served with the Prisons Service for about two years until 1990, when I was informed that, as a Deputy Superintendent, I was not permitted to marry a junior officer. Since the rules would not allow us to be together, I opted out of the Prison Service so that she could stay,” he noted.

According to Shatta Wale, he and his fans would not hesitate to stage a protest on the streets of Accra if Webkid is not released.

Shatta Wale further stated that it was time for him and the Shatta Movement to demonstrate to certain individuals what discipline is.

Reports suggest Webkid, a staunch fan of Shatta Wale, was arrested by the Ghana Police Service over allegations of cyberbullying.

The information suggests Webkid is currently being held at the Osu Police Station.

In a post shared on X on May 8, 2026, Shatta Wale boldly stated, “If dem no release Webkid we go enter street erh? 💪🩸.

In related news, the Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Commission, Frederick Opoku, has defended the ongoing clampdown on unlawful hostel fee increases.

According to the Rent Control Boss, the move is to ensure fairness and protect students and parents, not discouraging private investment.

He disclosed that the move forms part of plans to address the rising cost of student accommodation and ease the financial burden on students and their parents.

The Rent Control Boss stressed that the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not by using any Rambo-style or gorilla means.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Acting Rent Commissioner Fredrick Opoku stated, “Students across the country are suffering, parents across the country are suffering, and the government is determined to see this problem resolved, but not using any Rambo-style or gorilla means. We are trying to do it systematically and through true engagement”.

“We shouldn’t see this as attacking anybody’s business. This is about building a better Ghana for all of us. Landlords, property owners, tenants and students will all benefit if this is done well,” he said.

Also, Frederick Opoku has criticised SSNIT for the excessive fees they are charging for the Pentagon Hostel on the University of Ghana campus.

According to the Rent Commissioner, SSNIT must bow its head in shame for exploiting parents who pension they manage.

Frederick Opoku quizzed SSNIT on whether they want students to engage in prostitution before they can afford their hostel fees.

Speaking on Hitz FM, Frederick Opoku fumed, “If you go to Pent hostel, called Ghana Hostels Limited, that is the name, Pent for SSNIT. You SSNIT that you are managing people’s pension rights, and the same parent you manage their pension, you are exploiting them. What kind of behaviour is that?

SSNIT should bow its head in shame; you can never use people’s money and manage and still exploit them. I went there, I didn’t bring the sheet, and I don’t want to be liable for any legal issues.  I just want to speak to the issues”.

He added, “You go to Pent, they say there are new Pent and old Pent. Look at this terminology and semantics. This one is a new block, and the old block has 4 students in one room; they will take you like GHS6000 for the old one.

The new one is GHS8000 per semester, in fact, one room with air conditioning, they are talking about GHS20,000 plus or GHS30,000. What is the meaning of this? Do you want them to do prostitution to come and pay?”

Students of the University of Ghana have been constantly demanding urgent action against what they describe as outrageous and exploitative hostel fees.

Last year, SRC General Secretary, Sandra Owie, in a strongly-worded statement on Facebook, called out hostel operators, saying, “It is with deep concern and justified anger that I address the unbearable hostel fees being charged at Vikings and similar private hostels around the University of Ghana. The situation has reached an unacceptable level, and it is high time we called things by their proper name: exploitation”.

“How can we, in good conscience, accept over ₵10,000 for a shared room of four and as high as ₵38,000 for a single room?” she quizzed.

“Enough is enough. We refuse to be exploited, and we will resist any attempt by hostel operators to profit off the desperation of students,” she declared.
